KIMBERLEY EXPEDITION CRUISES

Welcome to the otherworldly Kimberley. Tucked along the northwestern corner of Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last wild frontiers, from rugged sandstone peaks and gushing waterfalls, to desert expanses, sunken mangrove forests, and everything in between. Cruise through Montgomery Reef as the tides rush out, leaving sea turtles dotting their heads in its midst. Search for a lustrous, masterfully cultivated pearl on a local pearl farm. Splash through the spray of King George Falls, or take to the skies in an amphibious Mallard aircraft to watch tawny sharks swim below. Better yet, engage with the original land-owning communities and their cultural rites, including guided showings of the unique Gwion Gwion artwork they have curated for centuries.

Crystal-clear waters and gleaming pearls aside, our Kimberely expeditions stand out to guests who want to travel Australia, but also desire to expedition off the beaten path. Whether you are a well-seasoned traveler, wildlife enthusiast, natural history buff, or are simply seeking a new adventure in one of the most pristine places on Earth, experience this unique corner of the world with Seabourn.

The Kimberley Expedition Port Highlights

Included Expedition Experience

King George Falls

Prepare for the highlight of your trip, cruising with our Expedition Team on a Zodiac® to explore the highest twin waterfalls in Western Australia. They will skillfully maneuver the canyon that the river carved nearly 2 billion years ago, flanked by mesmerizing sandstone cliffs, to the thundering 250-foot falls that will plunge into the waters in front of you.

This stop is full of beautiful, secluded beaches and tiny islands to explore. The real draw, though, is seeing the Gwion Gwion or Bradshaw rock art galleries that cover walls and caves in the area. Take a Zodiac® ride to Jar Island to see some of the oldest art in the world. Your Expedition Team will give you an interpretation of the drawings and a look at the fascinating history that accompanies them.

Montgomery Reef

Contemplate the raw transformation of the world’s largest inshore reef as you witness it appear and dip beneath the surface in some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. As you explore one of the ‘greatest natural wonders of the world’, you’ll search for incredible marine wildlife in their natural habitat from your Zodiac® – dolphins, octopuses, fish, reef sharks, turtles, sea snakes and more.

Talbot Bay Horizontal Waterfalls

Expect the unexpected amongst the spectacular rock formations and lush mangroves. Most waterfalls cascade vertically, but here tides push intense currents between narrow gorges to create a horizontal effect.

Featured Included Shore Excursions

Kuri bay pearl farm, traditional face painting ceremony, el questro park.

Kimberley

The ultimate explorer's paradise

There is no place on Earth like the Kimberley coast, it tops travel lists time and time again with good reason. The Kimberley is wild and remote with a storied history, and it is untouched by man other than the ancient Indigenous that you’ll find scratched into the walls of the caves. Almost impenetrable, the landscape consists of sparkling horizontal waterfalls, gorges, canyons, ridges, ancient mangrove forests and cliffs. No two journeys here are the same, you might see a humpback whale or a saltwater crocodile while exploring the waters, but you won’t spot any humans. The size of France and nestled at the north of the Western Territory this is a destination for those who love to explore. Join us on a journey to the place that time forgot but that you’ll remember forever.

Kimberley Cruise - True North Adventure Cruise

The Kimberley Coast is a panorama of rugged mountains, spectacular gorges and majestic waterfalls.

The area attracts visitors from all over the world - but not everybody is fortunate enough to truly experience this ancient land, and even fewer aboard our adventurous Kimberley cruises.

The Sandstone Cliffs of the King George River, Koolama Bay, Kimberley

The Kimberley Region in Western Australia is one of those ultimate destinations

The Kimberley is an ancient land and for many Australians, it’s right up there with Far North Queensland, the Top End and Tasmania. It’s just one of those mystical places that you must visit one day!

It’s far enough away to be remote but it’s still in our backyard. And it’s got the lot! Endless blue skies (the dry season is exactly that), spectacular wilderness areas and stunning scenery, ancient culture, some of Australia’s best beach experiences, great fishing, pristine coral atolls and, the whole package is wrapped up in that quintessential Australian outback experience.

Lots of Everything

And there is lots of everything – in fact, there are more than 400,000 square kilometres of the Kimberley, an area 3 times the size of England! The only thing the Kimberley doesn’t have lots of is people. Less than 40,000 people live in the Kimberley which makes the math easy – that’s less than 1000 locals for every 10,000 square kilometres, which means it’s always easy to find your own special place in the Kimberley.

The region offers 2 distinct experiences – the inland experience and the Kimberley Coast, accessible via our Kimberley cruises.

The inland experience is the ultimate road trip and opportunity to experience icons such as Gibb River Road, Punululu and the gorges at Windjana and Geikie. But the Kimberley Coast is a totally different experience featuring more than 2000 islands and several mighty rivers. On the Kimberley Coast you can have epic encounters with Kimberley giants such as the Horizontal Falls, Montgomery Reef, the Prince Regent River, The Mitchell Plateau and King George Falls. On the Kimberley Coast you see Wandjina and Gwion Gwion rock art and on the Kimberley Coast you can land a barramundi that some might only imagine in their dreams.

True North Adventure Cruises has been conducting Kimberley cruises for more than 30 years. We pioneered adventure cruises along the Kimberley Coast and no one knows the area like we do. And it really is our backyard because even after all this time, we still live there!

True North Adventures Cruise With Kimberley Water Falls

Purpose-built to go where bigger ships cannot

Whilst others sail past – the TRUE NORTH can safely navigate the Kimberley Coast’s many shallow river systems. Our small ship cruises provide our guests with intimate access to the region’s iconic natural features.

And, our activity-based adventure cruise itineraries include tactile experiences such as hiking, fishing, mud crabbing, picnics, natural history interpretation, seeing ancient rock art belonging to the land’s traditional owners and exhilarating helicopter rides .

Time to Book Ahead

Hear from someone who truly knows about the value of booking ahead. “Cheggers” has travelled on the TRUE NORTH more than anyone else!

True North Sails into 30 Years

True North Adventure Cruises - has sailed into 30 years of continuous operations. The now revered adventure-cruise operator first cruised Western Australia’s remote Kimberley coast during 1987 when founding director Craig Howson commenced fishing type charters along a coastline that was and still is largely inaccessible from land.

The Helicopter

Adding another dimension to the adventure, most cruise options on the TRUE NORTH feature an on-board helicopter! Carrying guests in air conditioned comfort, the ship’s helicopter provides unique opportunity to witness grandeur; unique opportunity to fish billabongs that have never been fished; unique opportunity to discover your very own wilderness!

Myles Pollard's Fishing Adventure

There is nothing better than a day out on the water, especially when the fish are biting! Fishing on-board the TRUE NORTH is a much-favoured activity both with guests who have never picked up a rod before and, with those who have "caught them all!” Our guides encourage everybody on-board to “give it a go” and the TRUE NORTH’s multiple adventure boats never fail to bring back a swag of ‘fishing tales’! Stories about the ladies who out-fish the boys are pretty common, humorous equipment failures also come to note on a regular basis, then there are the ‘birthday fish’, the ‘monster fish’ and of course, the ones that got away! Our guides have seen and heard it all! Watch the video to find out more about actor Myles Pollard's fishing adventure!

TRUE NORTH Impresses Again

The TRUE NORTH has once again impressed on the world stage coming second in the 2020 Traveller Made Brand Storytelling competition. Traveller Made is Europe’s largest travel consortium and its members represent the very best in luxury travel providers and suppliers. The group’s inaugural Brand Storytelling competition was an opportunity for leading travel brand’s to showcase “the story behind their brand” and, the competition attracted entries from some of the world’s most respected travel brands. In such esteemed company, True North’s marketing team was especially pleased to receive this additional acknowledgement.

Inspiring the Master Chef

Rhys Badcock has taken on the role as TRUE NORTH's Head Chef this coming season. Winner of the 2013 Masterchef: The Professionals, Rhys' accolades also include sous chef at the award-winning Cape Lodge and working with some of the best chefs in the industry. He has a passion for using fresh, in season and local produce, in particular the delectable fish species TRUE NORTH guests catch in the Kimberley region. Hear Rhys discuss his inspirations for cooking and working on a cruise vessel, plus his favourite fish dish!

Adventure En Plein Air

West Australian artist Jacob 'Shakey' Butler joined the TRUE NORTH earlier this season and discovered the Kimberley's raw beauty. As the artist in residence, Jacob set up his canvas on remote beaches, beside freshwater billabongs and on-deck surrounded by pindan-coloured gorges. Watch the video above to hear Jacob describing how the Kimberley inspires the art of adventure.

Catriona Rowntree Talks With Craig Howson

A commonly asked question is “When is the best time to see the Kimberley?” And the answer is “The Kimberley is always at its best!” However certain times of the year can make it easier to satisfy particular interest. For example, if you would like to see plenty of whale action then departures in August and September are definitely for you! From late July humpback and southern right whales reach the Kimberley after swimming-up the west coast to reach breeding grounds in the north and it’s very common for guests to get great views of whales breaching and basking on the surface.

Kimberley Fishing Holidays

A Kimberley Wilderness Adventure with more time for fishing! Stalk elusive barramundi when conditions are at their best. Arm-wrestle giant trevally, lure smashing mackerel and ‘fine-eaters’ such as mangrove jack and fingermark. And, at the same time keep everyone in the gang happy with stunning sojourns to many of the Kimberley coast’s iconic destinations.

This is a territory that is two-thirds the size of France and has 38,000 people living in it. Half are aborigines descended from Australia's first inhabitants. These distant ancestors have bestowed a culture and cave art with an ongoing sense of mystery. This is a region that you fly over or approach by sea because it is unspoilt and wild . Red soil, ochre cliffs, feisty inlets, roaring waterfalls, saltwater crocodiles... Welcome to the Kimberley .

Fly over the Bungle Bungle Range

Wyndham , the northernmost town in the Kimberley region, is a special gateway. This area with fewer than 800 inhabitants makes the ideal starting point for exploring Purnululu National Park . Having been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003, it is famous for the Bungle Bungle Range and its ochre and grey striped sandstone domes. There is nothing better than a panoramic flight to admire the beauty of this landscape created by erosion over a period of 20 million years.

Fly over the Buccaneer Archipelago

Fly over the Buccaneer Archipelago

In the west of the Kimberley, the land seems to break into pieces and slide into the sea. The result is a jagged coastline and no fewer than 800 islands forming the Buccaneer Archipelago , leading to finely cut panoramas. The best way to take in this unique geography is to take to the air. Soaring in a period Grumman Mallard amphibious aircraft , the views over this two-billion-year-old terrain are truly amazing. The undulating desert coast gives way to dots of land with red cliffs plunging into sapphire waters. Being so hard to access, this area has found itself protected... The nearest town is half an hour away by plane.

Sail along the King George River

Sail along the King George River

One of the Kimberley's marvels, the King George River is particularly stunning. Travellers turn into real explorers here. Guided by naturalists who are experts in the region, Zodiac® boats sail along the ochre, red, purple, pink and orange rock faces in the heart of 80-metre gorges. In the distance, the twin King George Falls rumble away. They are so vertical it gives you vertigo. The water hurtles down the cliffs. Watching is a hypnotic experience. Time seems to stand still, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the moment.

Discover cave art

Discover cave art

With 10% of the Kimberley having been systematically explored by archaeologists, hundreds of thousands of painted motifs in tunnels and on rocky walls have been found and listed. It is believed that some were done 20,000 years ago and are examples of Gwion Gwion cave art . This is characterised by its fine brushstrokes and rare aesthetics which tell us more about how these old civilisations lived. Clothes, food, arms, tools, ceremonies, trade... These precise paintings are a mine of information for researchers. One of the highlights of a trip to the Kimberley is enjoying this art, which is some of the world's oldest.

Enjoy seeing unique tidal phenomena

Enjoy seeing unique tidal phenomena

Water is king at Collier Bay . Gigantic tidal surges have created these unique landscapes, to photographers' delight. These surges can reach over 14 metres in width and are some of the world's biggest. They cause special phenomena, like at Montgomery Reef : the biggest coastal reef on the planet. When the water pulls back, this creates strong currents and little waterfalls. In Talbot Bay , when the tide comes in or goes out, the waves rush into a bottleneck. This water then flows away, creating "horizontal waterfalls" .

Australia's aborigine cuisine revolves around bush tucker . This means all the animals and plants in the Australian bush that allow humans to survive in this difficult environment. Kangaroos, emus, seafood, honey, berries, worms, lizards and snakes are foods sought by hunter-gatherers.

Myths and legends

North-west Kimberley is home to magnificent decorated caves representing Wandjina, the powerful rain spirit . Poignantly moving ochre figures and silhouettes enhanced with touches of black, red, yellow and white leap out from the walls, alone or in groups, standing or lying. No need for mouths on their round, large-eyed and fine-nosed faces, encircled with headdress-evoking halos, for the extraordinary power of these supernatural entities to express itself. Both Aboriginal people and visitors are required to observe a strict protocol in order to approach them, and only the initiated are allowed to maintain these frescoes and create new representations of the spirit in order to continue the tradition of this ancestral sacred art , which is considered to be the most ancient in the world.

Book. Leafing through Australie aborigène (Aborigine Australia) will make you want to visit the country. This stunning photo book's subtitle, Walkabout , is a reference to the rite-of-passage journey taken by aborigines across Australia, following in the footsteps of their mythological ancestors. The Kimberley and other areas are beautifully represented in the book in photos taken by Sandrine and Frédéric Mouchet, who spent two years immersed in these isolated lands.

Music. The first rock group, in the 1980s, to combine aboriginal sounds with contemporary music, Yothu Yindi (which means “mother and child” in Yongli), define themselves as artisans of cultural reconciliation. Prior to becoming a pop star, the group's singer, Yunupingu, was the first Aboriginal person ever to be a head teacher. He developed innovative teaching methods designed to suit the distinctive characteristics of Aboriginal people.

Film. In Undermined, Tales from the Kimberley , director Nicholas D. Wrathall examines what will become of the Kimberley and the 200 aborigine tribes who live there. A range of farming and industrial projects in the region are challenging their traditional lifestyles.

Facts and figures

Some experts estimate that early aborigine cave art dates back 20,000 or 30,000 years . The term "aborigine art" includes these primitive cave works as well as creations by contemporary artists influenced by this age-old culture. It is therefore the oldest ongoing artistic tradition in the world.

The Lady M is one of the larger vessels cruising the Kimberley for the number of guests it accommodates.

The Ultra-Luxury Kimberley Cruise Guide

The Kimberleys, Australia

Planning a trip to the Kimberley? Here is our guide to the top luxury cruise lines in the Kimberley, a bucket list destination.

Where is the Kimberley?

The Kimberley is located in the far north-western region of Western Australia. It is one of the largest wilderness landscapes in the world. Thousands of visitors are drawn to this fascinating region for its incredible natural wonders. Hot, arid landscapes bask in glorious sunsets where thundering waterfalls contrast the brilliant red cliffs and soaring plains.

Horizontal Falls, Kimberley, Australia

Natural phenomena like Horizontal Falls and rivers brimming with crocodiles, pristine beaches and spectacular reefs lie within this remote and indigenous landscape.

Due to its remote location and extreme climate, one of the best ways to appreciate the Kimberley is by cruising.

When to travel to the Kimberley?

The best time to visit the Kimberley is mid-May to August, where the daytime temperature sits at around 28-30°C and evenings are a balmy 19°C. This is just outside the wet season. However, some cruise operators run waterfall cruises from mid-March to mid-April where visitors can appreciate nature in all its glory with thundering waterfalls and spectacular light storms in a more humid climate.

Choosing the right ship for your Kimberley Cruise

Expedition /smaller cruise vessels can get into areas where larger vessels cannot access allowing for a more intimate and close-up experience. These vessels come with multiple smaller zodiac / adventure boats to propel you right into the heart of these untouched gems of the area. Some of these vessels have helicopters on board too, providing an even more exhilarating adventure and birds eye view.

It’s important to consider the type of Kimberley adventure you are looking for. Some of the larger vessels offer pools and day spas with multiple restaurant choices whereas the smaller vessels like True North, whilst still very luxurious, have limited onboard facilities and focus mainly on experiences in the region off the main cruise vessel.

kimberley luxury cruise

Iconic highlights of the Kimberley region

  • King George Falls – one of the most photographed icons of the region. These 260-foot all twin cascades are phenomenal against the burnt red cliffs. Vessels like True North can get right up close to the foot of the falls.
  • Horizontal Falls and Talbot Bay – The Horizontal Falls are fast moving tidal currents that flow through two narrow gorges in Talbot Bay, located in the Buccaneer Archipelago. Most of the cruises will take guests on fast jet boat rides through the currents.
  • Mitchell Falls – a breathtaking waterfall at its height at the end of the wet season. Fly over the falls via helicopter or take the hike in – that is well-worth the journey.
  • Baccaneer Archipelago – the Kimberley is home to one of the highest concentrations of islands in the world. Some harbour ancient rock art dating back to Aboriginal times like Bigge Island.
  • The red rocks of Cape Leveque contrast the turquoise sea, the northernmost point of Dampier Peninsula.
  • Montgomery Reef – Australia’s largest inshore reef that rises from the ocean with an incredible sound as the tides wash over it.
  • Kuri Bay – Nestled within the untamed Kimberley wilderness in Western Australia, Kuri Bay is a remote coastal haven which boasts pristine beaches, secluded coves, crystal-clear waters, and abundant marine life.
  • Vansittart Bay – Vansittart Bay beckons adventurers seeking rugged beauty. Marvel at cascading waterfalls and discover the haunting wreckage of WWII aircraft.
  • Some activities available such as barramundi fishing trips, crocodile spotting cruises, whales off the coast of Broome, and camel rides on Cable Beach in Broome

How to get to the Kimberley

Most of the cruises we featured start and finish in Broome or Wyndham (via Kununurra), however Darwin is also another port for some itineraries.

What to pack when visiting the Kimberley

A diverse landscape that is dry and arid with lush rainforest and stunning waterfalls requires careful packing to ensure you have the right clothing and gear for different activities and weather conditions. Light-weight cotton clothing ideally with long sleeves for sun protection. Pack layers to accommodate the dry heat and slightly cooler evenings.

Good walking shoes as well as wet shoes for shore excursions and reef landings are a must. A hat, sunglasses, swimmers and sunscreen are also essentials for the suitcase. A spray jacket, water bottle and lip balm with SPF is also a good idea. Depending on where you are planning to visit, gaiters will protect your ankles and legs if you are planning to do the Kunmunya Hike. Many cruise vessels have a smart casual dress code for evening dinners on board, so pop in a few outfits for dinner.

Let our Kimberley Cruise Guide ignite your wanderlust for the mesmerizing Kimberley region. Cruising its coast should be on everyone’s bucket list, as it remains one of the world’s most extraordinary and unique destinations. Prepare to immerse yourself in the wonders of breathtaking gorges, majestic waterfalls, rugged limestone cliffs, pristine turquoise waters, expansive river systems, and awe-inspiring ancient art sites. Not to mention, the region is a sanctuary for an abundance of bird, marine, and wildlife. Get ready for an unforgettable journey of discovery and natural beauty.

Cruises operate from March until October with various sizes and standards of vessels, catering to all types of passengers. The cruises offer a variety of land and water-based excursions each day. And two vessels have an onboard helicopter.

A reasonable level of fitness is required for some walks and a steadiness on your feet will also be of assistance, although this won’t preclude you from doing most excursions each day.

We would recommend travelling early in the season when waterfalls and gorges have an abundance of water and the vegetation is green and lush.

Here is our Kimberley Cruise Guide to the natural attractions you may visit:

Cape Leveque

Cape Leveque

The northern most point of the Dampier Peninsula. It is approximately 240kms from Broome. Most cruises will pass this point with Cape Leveque Lighthouse visible from the vessels.

Lacepede Islands

Not visited on every cruise depending on tides but rich in birdlife and an important breeding ground for brown boobies and roseate terns. Situated in the Dampier Peninsula, an excursion through the 4 desolate islands will bring to life your interest in the abundant birdlife.

Horizontal Falls

Horizontal Falls

A little taste of white-water rafting in The Kimberley! Described by naturalist David Attenborough as “one of the greatest wonders of the natural world”, the Horizontal Falls are formed by a land break in-between the McLarty Ranges, deep in Talbot Bay. Up to 10 metre tides send huge volumes of water pouring through a narrow chasm in the land formation. You can take an exhilarating ride through this wonder.

Buccaneer Archipelago

Buccaneer Archipelago

Home of over 800 rocky outcrop islands. As you meander through the region you will pass Cockatoo Island, famed for the BHP iron ore mine, as well as Alan Bond’s Cockatoo Island Resort in the 80s and 90s.

Montgomery Reef

Montgomery Reef

If you love marine life then Montgomery Reef will be your haven. The reef is rich in marine life, including dugongs, turtles, manta rays and many species of sea birds. It is Australia’s largest inshore reef of 292kms² and provides a stunning panorama of white-water rapids on the ebb tide. Many cruise guest’s favourite excursion!

Home of Australia’s first cultured Pearl Farm. Paspaley Pearls still operate a major pearl farm at Kuri Bay. The Bay is situated within the Prince Regent National Park and is also used by the Bureau of Meteorology as the boundary of the Northern Kimberley from the Western Kimberley region.

Careening Bay

Careening Bay

For the nautical history buffs, Careening Bay was where Captain Philip Parker King ‘careened’ his vessel, the HMC Mermaid in 1820, after it began taking on water. It was during the 10 days that repairs took place that the ship’s carpenter carved ‘HMC Mermaid 1820’ into the papery bark of a boab tree.

Bigge Island

Bigge Island

It’s all about the indigenous rock art. Bigge Island is renowned for the Bradshaw and Wandjina paintings. It is an easy walk to reach the artworks.

Mitchell Falls

Mitchell Falls

The spectacular four-tiered Mitchell Falls. Equally impressive whether flowing or dry. The Falls and the surrounding Mitchell Plateau region was formed over 1800 million years ago amidst volcanic eruptions and massive upheavals in the earth’s crust. Take a helicopter flight over the Falls to marvel this magnificent natural wonder.

King George Falls

King George Falls

The highest falls in Western Australia at 80 metres. The meandering cruise through the giant escarpments only heighten the experience when you arrive to view these majestic Falls. Some of the cruise companies also offer the option of a clambering walk up the side of the Falls to take in the view from the top.

Kings Cascades

Kings Cascades Falls

This spectacular 50 metre terraced Falls is located on the Prince Regent River. You’ll be given the chance to get up close to enjoy a dunking if you are there in the early part of the season when the Falls are in full glory. You may also have the opportunity to swim in one of the crystal clear rockpools at the back of the Falls.

Vansittart Bay

Vansittart Bay

Visit the remarkably well-preserved wreckage of a DC3 which made an emergency landing after running out of fuel on a flight from Perth to Darwin but due to re-fuel in Broome in 1942. Trapped on the beach for 3 days the outcome was a happy one with all 4 crew and 2 passengers safely rescued by a searching Corinthian aircraft.

Drysdale River

One of the Kimberley’s longest rivers at 432kms. Explore the spectacular palm-studded landscape and rapids of the Drysdale area. Drysdale is renowned for its saltwater crocodiles, flying foxes and many species of bird life.

Berkeley River

Berkeley River

Known for its towering gorges, majestic waterfalls and sandstone cliffs. A cruise through the escarpments will delight the senses.

Prince Regent River

Home to Kings Cascade Falls, the river is relatively straight as it follows a fault line for much of its length.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
