"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" looks like nothing so much as one of those live-action adventures that Disney used to grind out in the 1950s — and hey, here's Captain Nemo's Nautilus to prove it. Also, a tree house to humble "Swiss Family Robinson," which contains a short-wave radio that has been assembled from old spoons, I think I heard.

The movie is very, very loosely a sequel to " Journey to the Center of the Earth ," with only two connections: It's inspired by a Jules Verne novel, and it co-stars young Josh Hutcherson as the hero Sean. The film opens with him on a motorcycle and being chased by cops, but not to worry; all he did was break into a satellite-tracking station to boost the power on a message for help sent by his grandfather from a lost island in the Pacific.

Sean, whose father in the first film ( Brendan Fraser ) has disappeared (from the cast, anyway), now has to deal with Hank ( Dwayne Johnson , aka the Rock). Hank is his new stepdad. Josh and Hank make friends by decrypting grandfather's message; Hank glances at it and intuits that the two-syllable words stand for dots and one-syllable words stand for dashes, which means Grandpa has had enough free time on his remote island to figure out a way to make Morse code several times longer than it previously was. Unanswered is why grandfather would encrypt a call for help.

This Hank, what a swell guy. He proposes that the two of them fly off to the Pacific and find Grandpa. On arrival somewhere, they hire a tourist helicopter pilot named Gabato, played by Luis Guzman as another one of those low-comedy guys who gets all worked up and is scared of stuff. (I enjoyed a reprise of this classic shot: Gabato runs toward camera, falls on stomach, looks up …and up … and up.)

Gabato has a daughter named Kailani ( Vanessa Hudgens ), a Polynesian beauty who wears a tank top and Daisy Dukes throughout the film. These four fly off in the helicopter, are trapped in a Force Five hurricane that rips it to pieces and are lucky enough to find themselves alive on the beach of the Mysterious Island.

This is your complete island. It has an active volcano; waterfalls with no apparent water sources streaming down cliffs; elephants the size of dogs, and giant lizards that are nowhere big enough to account for the size of their eggs. (Josh falls through the shell of one, splashes in a pool of yolk and is attacked by an unborn lizard chick.) Also on the island is the lost city of Atlantis, even though it's in the wrong ocean, and bees so big Sean and Kailani can both ride on the back of one. And Alexander Anderson, Sean's grandfather, played by Michael Caine , who will not be editing this role into his videos about how to act in movies.

I hope you understand I enjoyed most of this stuff. The director, Brad Peyton , apparently intended it as a genial parody of countless other movies in this spirit. There is, for example, a scene were Sean, Grandpa, Kailani and Gabato all sit around the old campfire and listen while Hank strums a ukulele and sings "What a Wonderful World." And I mean he sings it: every word of three verses. It's not every day you see the Rock channeling Gene Autry.

Sean deduces that Verne's novel contains everything they need to know, and this comes in handy when the volcano explodes, and the island begins to sink into the sea. Sure enough, Captain Nemo's submarine is still hidden underwater. Hank and Sean, trusting Verne, dive off a high cliff, and while holding their breath and swimming underwater, are able to (1) find the sub, (2) open the hatch by tugging and twisting it, (3) swim inside, (4) push a lever to fill it with air, and (5) get the power generator working by jump-starting it with an electric eel.

This is transcendently goofy. It isn't a "good" movie in the usual sense (or most senses), but it is jolly and good-natured, and Michael Caine and Dwayne Johnson are among the most likable of actors. Johnson is such a good sport, he even shows young Sean how to impress girls by flexing your pecs so quickly that nuts will ricochet off them. I can't think of any reason to pay extra for the 3-D.

Movie Review

It’s not that Sean hates his stepdad, Hank.

He’s no little kid anymore, though. And he doesn’t need some new “rent” hovering over him, trying to get into his business. He’s a teenager now and can take care of himself.

Still, it was kind of fun that Hank knew so much about code-breaking from his Navy days. Together they were able to decode that puzzling message from his long-lost grandfather. And they even figured out the clues about the classic novels—Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island —how they all fit together and were really about the same island.

It was really cool that Hank agreed to help him hunt down the map coordinates they found and head off on an adventure to find that secret island. They might even find Sean’s grandfather in the process! Maybe he needs to give Hank a bit more credit for trying to be a pretty good dad after all.

How many guys would shell out the kind of bank required to take this trip and hire a helicopter to check out a set of coordinates out in the middle of the Pacific? Not many. That’s definitely something in Hank’s favor.

The trip even gave Sean the chance to meet Kailani, the helicopter guy’s daughter. And boy is she cute! She’s not really giving Sean the time of day yet, but, oh well. All in all it’s been an incredible couple of days so far. And, well, Sean figures he might actually owe it all to Hank.

Sean would probably almost be ready to, kind of, tell Hank how he felt about him now … if that funnel cloud hadn’t disabled their helicopter and they weren’t crashing into the ocean. Isn’t it funny how life flashes before your eyes and things get so clear just before you’re about to croak?

Positive Elements

Hank does indeed do his best to make a connection with his standoffish stepson. And as the movie progresses, the two take great strides toward a true father/son bond. Hank talks of his own dad abandoning him when he was 8. And he makes it crystal clear that he isn’t going anywhere. As unexpectedly crazy as their adventure becomes, Hank always comes back to trying to protect Sean and make wise choices.

When Hank gives Sean a little advice about the opposite sex, his speech includes some wisdom about being sensitive and curbing a teen’s natural instincts—along with just a dash of silliness about “pec popping,” which could actually be construed, in a bit of a roundabout way, as a hedge against getting too serious too fast.

Hank’s sense of parental commitment even impacts Sean’s grandfather, Alexander, whom they do meet in the middle of their journey. Alexander had, in a way, abandoned his family in the pursuit of his research. And eventually the old scientist realizes that it’s not too late to reconnect and have the same kind of rewarding relationships that Hank is forming with Sean.

The helicopter owner, Gabato, becomes part of the adventuring crew after the crash. And we learn of his love and devotion for his daughter. He longs to send her to college to give her a better life, and he puts his own life on the line to try to dig up a large chunk of island gold to make that possible. Kailani voices her love for her dad, but tells him, “We’ll have all the wealth we need—as long as we’re together.” On several occasions, Sean makes brave choices to protect Kailani from island threats.

Spiritual Elements

When Gabato first sees the beauty of the island, he coos, “If this is heaven, I’m checking in.” When he finds the gold, he exclaims, “My prayers have been answered.”

Sexual Content

Kailani wears a figure-fitting, midriff-baring and cleavage-revealing outfit of shorts and a tank top. Sean immediately takes notice of her. And, later, they share a brief kiss. Sean’s mom sports a little cleavage too.

Violent Content

The island has a special “what is normally small grows large” property about it. And so there are several chase scenes involving giant birds, a king-sized lizard and an enormous electric eel. The result is several slo-mo images of upclose chomping mouths and barely missing snapping beaks. The birds and the lizard are all eventually knocked out cold (with the birds flying into other objects and the lizard getting thumped by rope-suspended logs). An enormous spider and some oversized centipedes are a little frightening-looking, but never a real threat.

During one chase Sean falls and dislocates his ankle. A ravaging funnel cloud snaps the tail of Gabato’s helicopter, sending it and everyone aboard plummeting to the ocean below. (The humans all survive. The helicopter, not so much.) When the mysterious island starts sinking, the land shakes, volcanoes erupt and mayhem ensues. Alexander, Gabato and Kailani fall into the churning sea and are moments away from drowning when Hank and Sean come to the rescue.

Crude or Profane Language

Two uses of “heck” and one “crap.”

Drug and Alcohol Content

Questioning someone’s poor choice, Hank wonders aloud what they were drinking.

Other Negative Elements

We see Sean riding his dirt bike to elude the police after he reportedly broke into a satellite facility. Comic relief guy Gabato delivers several light poop and body odor jokes. Hank tries to scare off a giant lizard with a lit road flare: When the creature bites the top off the flare, Hank looks at it and eeps out, “That’s emasculating.”

A sequel to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth , this film takes the same “what if?” premise of the original (What if Jules Verne’s books weren’t fabrications of the author’s imagination, but a record of his scientific discoveries?) and expands on it nicely.

New cast additions add some heft and chuckles. The mysterious island itself has lots of color and pizzazz. And the ride-a-giant-bee-and-pick-up-a-teeny-elephant contrariness of that secret place makes the journey all the more crazy and fun. Plus, the snippets of clues from classic novels make you want to explore your local library shelves.

Then add in the fact that the filmmakers go to great lengths to explore the value of strong family bonds and lasting parental commitment—while the gang is running from the mayhem of giant birds and torrential flood waters—and you’ve got a light family adventure with a fair amount going for it.

During the press screening I attended, a particularly frenetic—but not too scary—chase sequence had just taken place. We were all sitting back from the edge of our collective seats as a character onscreen asked, “Everyone all right?” And out of the audience, a small, sincere and youthful voice piped up with, “I’m OK.”

The adults in the audience chuckled, but that little moment drove the real charm of this pic home to me. This is the kind of movie that will draw in its audience with an exciting ride and a heartwarming message while making sure that even the youngest in the family feels safe and secure. And if you ask me, that’s pretty “OK” indeed.

Having your strap undone just meant you would spend a lot of time holding your helmet on while moving fast.

Journey is something of an ineffable experience, and its ending in particular is one of the most affecting moments in gaming.

This alternate ending, by animator El-Cid , is ... a different kind of moment. But we'd still advise against watching it if you haven't completed Journey , since the first half of the video reveals important details about the game's conclusion.

The Ending Of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Explained

Bilbo stares ahead

Although it made more than a billion dollars at the box office , "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is the least heralded and most forgotten of "The Hobbit" trilogy in many ways. Since J.R.R. Tolkien's much slimmer book was adapted into three epic movies, with some supplemental material pulled from "The Silmarillon" and other places, "An Unexpected Journey" was destined to have kind of a patchwork, odd pace to it. This is even before Guillermo del Toro pulled out of directing the trilogy not long before filming before, forcing Peter Jackson to step in and direct himself instead of just producing and co-writing.

Although even Jackson himself will admit that all three movies are kind of a mess , they're still impeccably made films that offer pleasures of their own. "An Unexpected Journey" returned us, nearly a decade after "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," to the lush, grandiose vision of Middle-earth that Jackson and his collaborators had established, and star Martin Freeman is perfectly cast as a younger Bilbo Baggins for the long-awaited chronicle of his adventure. If you're not a "Lord of the Rings" scholar, some of the developments in the nearly three-hour first installment might be hard to track, or perhaps you want to skip it and get straight to the more dynamic action in the second installment, "The Desolation of Smaug." Whatever your reason, here is the ending of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" explained.

No place amongst us

The only real story progression in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is regarding Bilbo's motivation for joining the quest. The movie seems to rely on us having seen the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy to understand that Hobbits generally don't prefer to sign up for outlandish adventures, and Bilbo spends the entire movie fighting an internal battle between the two sides of his heritage. As the latest in a long line of respectable Bagginses at Bag End, he knows he'll be the talk of Hobbiton if he joins the dwarves on their quest. But as Gandalf (Ian McKellan) points out, he's also "the son of Belladonna Took," and much more prone to wildness on her side. Ultimately, when the dwarves leave without him, this side wins and he rushes to join them.

Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) , the leader of the party, takes the entirety of the movie to accept that this obviously fake "burglar" belongs with the party in the first place. As Thorin rightfully points out, Bilbo often whimpers and wishes to be home in his comfortable bed, and at first serves little purpose to the company other than preventing them from having an unlucky 13 members. Even though Bilbo shows a little cunning in outsmarting the Trolls, Thorin isn't convinced that he belongs until Bilbo takes up arms and slays an Orc to save Thorin's life.

The White Council

When the party arrives at Rivendell around the halfway point of "An Unexpected Journey," Gandalf is somewhat surprised to find that Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), one of the rulers of the Elves of Lothlorien, is already there, apparently summoned on the authority of his fellow wizard Saruman the White (Christopher Lee). Once again, the movie assumes we already knows who these characters are, in addition to Elrond (Hugo Weaving), but doesn't explain how Saruman has the standing to summon lords of the Elves together. Just like "The Fellowship of the Ring," the meeting has an aura of official business about it.

It's because all of these characters are members of the White Council, a body convened thousands of years ago to deal with the evil lord Sauron the first time that he threatened Middle-earth. Saruman, at the time, was chosen to head the Council despite Galadriel's wish to have Gandalf in charge. Granted, this is all deep backstory from "The Silmarillion," but "An Unexpected Journey" asks viewers to listen to quite a bit of a White Council meeting without making the purpose of the group or the power structure all that clear. It's evident that Saruman is stuck in obstinate complacency, while Galadriel and Gandalf communicate in secret glances.

Radagast the Brown

He might not be as powerful as Gandalf or Saruman, but "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" sees the triumphant cinematic debut of the wizard Radagast the Brown (Sylvester McCoy). He's generally off screen and mentioned in passing in the "Lord of the Rings" books, existing mostly to pass messages from other parties to the more central Gandalf, but Radagast is a powerful and ancient wizard in his own right. He plays a key role in this movie by tipping off the White Council to the growing power of the Necromancer in Mirkwood.

Saruman's attitude when Radagast's name comes up in the meeting is actually a key indicator of the white wizard's shifting values and (spoiler alert) eventually turn toward evil in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Since Saruman is beginning to lust for power and influence, he despises Radagast's communion with the natural world as fundamentally useless. He scoffs specifically that Radagast eats "too many mushrooms," as if Radagast is some sort of Middle-earth Timothy Leary who's lost his academic credibility by turning to psychedelics. Saruman's distaste for nature also subtly foreshadows his eventual undoing at the hands (or branches) of the Ents in "The Two Towers."

The Necromancer: serious threat or Scooby-Doo villain?

The subject of the White Council meeting is Radagast's terrifying glimpse of a new and powerful figure: the Necromancer. As the audience we're privy to his experience, in which what's definitely a ghost attempts to kill him with a (real?) sword. So it's pretty frustrating to hear Saruman's reaction. He seems to think that the Necromancer is just a mortal man that's dabbling in the dark arts — even if that's the case, it still seems like something that would be worth the White Council's time to investigate. An entity so dark and powerful that locals have started referring to the area as "Mirkwood" instead of "Greenwood" is cause for alarm no matter what its origin. As it is, Gandalf and Galadriel have to have their own meeting afterwards to get anything done.

"Lord of the Rings" fans that have done their reading are well aware that the Necromancer is of course Sauron in a semi-weakened form, although Saruman dismisses this possibility directly. Even though Sauron isn't generally known for raising the dead in the later books or movie trilogy, it seems he's dabbling in it during his time in Mirkwood to drum up fear and a general sense of foreboding over the land. Even though Saruman misses the point entirely, mission definitely accomplished on the foreboding front.

The map and the door

Though it's pretty clearly explained that Thorin's general quest is to reclaim his homeland, the kingdom under the Lonely Mountain known as Erebor, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" rushes the explanation of the map he's inherited from his grandfather that will help him accomplish this. They take the map to Elrond in Rivendell, who happens to discover "moon writing" runes on it. Written by Thorin's grandfather Thror under a "silver broad crescent" moon, they can only be read under the exact same conditions. Fortunately, there's just such a moon on that exact same night, in the mother of all coincidences.

With this astounding luck, the runes reveal that on "Durin's Day" (essentially the last day of fall on the Dwarvish calendar), the last light of sunset will illuminate the keyhole of a secret door, as long as you're also standing "by the grey stone when the thrush knocks." How Thorin's grandfather knew that the bearer of the map could tell one grey stone from another, or that a thrush would knock at just the right moment, is unclear. It's also a bit confusing why Elrond had to decode this information when the map came from Thorin's own family. To be fair, it's been a hectic couple of centuries of vagrancy for all the dwarves of Erebor, so this information may have been scattered to the wind.

The Witch-King of Angmar

What makes Saruman's very "Voldemort isn't back"-esque stubbornness about the Necromancer even more disturbing is the blade that Radagast produces, a "morgul blade" that fell from the ghost that attacked him at Dol Guldur. The blade and the ghost are another giant Easter Egg for "Lord of the Rings" fans: it's none other than the Witch-King of Angmar, the leader of Sauron's nine creepy undead wraiths known as Nazgul in the later trilogy, usually seen cloaked in black and riding black horses. In "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," the Witch-King is merely an apparition, as Sauron in his guise as the Necromancer isn't yet strong enough to give either himself or his most trusted servant physical form.

In any case, the blade is very real, and physical proof that the tomb of the Witch-King has been disturbed after 400 years. Even though the White Council discusses how unlikely it is, the blade combined with Radagast's eyewitness testimony seems more than compelling. Saruman nonetheless overrules it and Gandalf decides not to follow up on the entire Necromancer situation. If only the White Council held biannual elections for the top spot like a union delegation.

Is Galadriel a projection?

One of the more confusing moments in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is a quick scene between Gandalf and Galadriel. After the largely unproductive White Council meeting, the two share a few more words on the recent Middle-earth troubles before parting ways. Instead of saying goodbye, Galadriel abruptly vanishes when Gandalf looks back up at where she was standing. Was she a projection? Is that a power that Elves have that we just weren't aware of in any of the other movies? Has she taken to silently swinging away via grappling hook mid-conversation like Batman?

One possible explanation is that it's a power of Nenya, one of the three rings given to the Elf-lords back when the Ring of Power was forged. Nenya has powers of concealment, although invisibility, like that granted by the One Ring, is never specifically mentioned as one of its effects. Galadriel has also flashed telepathic powers throughout the extended "Lord of the Rings" story, so it's not out of the question that she was somehow attending the meeting without her physical form. But it would be a bit of a stretch, based on both what we know of elven powers in the films and in Tolkien's universe. As it is, it's a small and inscrutable moment in "An Unexpected Journey" that we just have to sit with. Maybe it's just that Gandalf has been smoking a little too much pipe-weed from the Shire after all.

One ring to not even mention

The most fateful moment in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is when Bilbo happens upon a golden ring in the caverns under the Misty Mountains. He accidentally puts it on, only to discover that it makes him invisible to the nefarious Gollum (Andy Serkis). "Lord of the Rings" fans recognize this immediately as the One Ring to rule them all, the key to Sauron's power. With Sauron in his still-weakened state off in Mirkwood, Bilbo has a much more relaxed time using the ring than his nephew Frodo will have in the future, as he's not troubled by any visions of Sauron's fiery, unblinking eye. It's doubtful that Sauron is even aware of its discovery at this point in time.

It's also key that Bilbo chooses not to reveal the ring to the rest of Thorin's company. In the book version of "The Hobbit," this is because he's a little more interested in maintaining his fabricated reputation as a burglar capable of operating stealthily. But in "An Unexpected Journey," the moment is played differently: Martin Freeman expertly imitates a physical habit Ian Holm established as the older Bilbo and absentmindedly rubs the ring while it's in his pocket, indicating that the insidious power of the ring has already begun to work on him.

The moth/eagle emergency hotline

One of the most frequently complained about and generally confusing moments in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is the rescue at the end of "The Return of the King" by the Great Eagles. It won't help that "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" continues this tradition by also having the Eagles arrive just in the nick of time to save Thorin and company from Azog the Defiler at the end, nor that they're summoned almost in real time by Gandalf communicating with a moth, as he does in "The Fellowship of the Ring."

Generally the issue in both movie trilogies is that no time is devoted to explaining that the eagles are sentient, proud beings that have a special relationship with wizards in the theology of Middle-earth, and in fact are very similar to Gandalf himself in that they were sent to Middle-earth from the quasi-mythical realm of Valinor across the sea. In other words the eagles and wizards are somewhat angelic figures that serve higher purposes of destiny and fate in a sort of cosmic sense. As a result, like Gandalf himself, they often arrive just in the nick of time in a kind of inexorable fashion that it's better to just accept as part of fantasy storytelling than think too hard about.

When not to take a life

As Gandalf explains to Bilbo, true courage is knowing when not to take a life, not just when to take one. Bilbo's decision to spare the life of the wretched but pitiable Gollum will prove to be the most fateful act in the entire "Hobbit" trilogy. Even more than the fate of Smaug or the outcome of the Battle of Five Armies, Gollum's path will lead him all across Middle-earth and back, and eventually to the edge of the fires of Mount Doom and the One Ring's accidental destruction.

This act of mercy drives home a theme about Hobbits and their modest, peaceful instincts that's central to both trilogies. Even with the ring already working on his moral compass, Bilbo can't bring himself to kill the vile creature that wants to take it back from him — eventually Bilbo will become the only ringbearer to willingly part with the dreaded artifact when he passes it on to Frodo. In turn, Gollum, who was once a very Hobbit-like riverfolk named Smeagol, is key in keeping the ring hidden from Sauron for centuries. Even though he's fully under the ring's spell, he's content to hide away with it in caverns instead of seeking power of any sort.

The last image of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," just after Bilbo foolishly says that the "worst is behind" the traveling company, is a glimpse of the terror that awaits them in the next movie as we get a glimpse of the immense dragon Smaug. Sleeping under a literal mountain of gold, Smaug is disturbed by the knocking of a thrush, a portent of what's to come when the company arrives on Durin's Day to really cause him trouble.

It's well-established in Tolkien's world that dragons all have an insatiable lust for gold, sometimes to the exclusion of even food, but it's never quite explained why. Dragons were created by the dark lord Morgoth (Sauron's even more powerful original master) and set loose upon the world, so their lust for gold may have been a way to destabilize the kingdoms of dwarves and men en masse in Morgoth's campaign of terror. Centuries and centuries after Morgoth's defeat, Smaug still roams the earth and sets off the events of "The Hobbit" by storming Erebor.

Is The Final Shape the end of Destiny 2?

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is finally arriving soon, which means the climactic battle against the Witness in the Traveler's Pale Heart is almost here. The Final Shape is a pivotal expansion for Destiny 2, not only in terms of all the new things it introduces to Bungie 's multiplayer FPS, but it's also the culmination of the franchise's Light and Darkness Saga, which all started back in 2014 with Destiny 1 – we're sure that it'll all be worth it in the end for one of the best FPS games of the decade. Destiny 2: The Final Shape story

Destiny 2 The Final Shape showcase destiny 1 tower in the pale heart

The end of Destiny 2 Lightfall saw the Witness create a portal reaching inside the Traveler for reasons unknown. Now in The Final Shape, it's up to Guardians to finally follow and bring the fight to the Witness inside the Traveler's Pale Heart. It's a new, "linear" destination which will then open more after the campaign. This location is influenced by its visitors, so you'll start in a recreation of the Destiny 1 Tower but will journey into more horrific regions tainted by the Witness.

Here, the Witness intends to unite its powers of Darkness with the Traveler's Light to manipulate reality into its 'Final Shape'. What exactly is the Final Shape? Conceptually, it's a perfect, final form or moment for the universe. One where everything is ordered with meaning and purpose. However, what this actually looks like is unclear – what we've seen so far suggests that the Witness is essentially petrifying everything, preserving it for eternity in a stone-like material – and many characters have differing interpretations of this Final Shape.

With the help of new and old allies, including the return of Cayde-6, Guardians must overcome the Witness's apocalyptic plan to save the universe, then who knows what's next?

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Prismatic and new Supers

Destiny 2 The Final Shape art

As you delve into the Pale Heart will also uncover a new Subclass power – Prismatic. This fusion of Light and Darkness available to each of the Destiny 2 Classes , allows certain abilities, Aspects, and even Supers from each of the other five Subclasses to be mixed and matched with bespoke Prismatic Fragments. For example, Hunters can combine the Gunpowder Gamble and Winter's Shroud Aspects with the Strand Grapple, Arcbolt Grenade, and new Storm's Edge Super.

New Supers? Yep, each of the three Classes are getting a new Super ability too. Void Titans will get the axe-tossing Twilight Arsenal, Storm's Edge for Arc Hunters allows for long-range teleports, and Song of Flame empowers Solar Warlocks with massively buffed abilities.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape showcase Void Titan throwing axe with Twilight Arsenal Super

So, if Prismatic Subclasses use other Supers and abilities, does it get anything new? There's an exclusive Destiny 2 Exotic Prismatic Class Item that grants perks from other Exotic armor pieces, but Transcendence is the new Prismatic-exclusive ability that behaves a bit like a Super ability. You first need to charge one Light energy bar and one Darkness energy bar, but once both are filled, Transcendence is ready.

Activate it to temporarily gain increased ability regeneration, increased weapon damage, and increased damage resistance, making you a bit of a powerhouse. Best of all, each Class gets their own Transcendence grenade that fuses two other grenades. Warlocks get the Stasis-Void Freezing Singularity grenade while Transcendent, while Titans can lob an Electrified Snare that merges Arc and Strand, for example.

The original Light and Darkness Subclasses are getting a bit of love, however, and Bungie has published a blog detailing the changes to abilities coming with The Final Shape.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape new Exotic weapons and armor

Destiny 2 The Final Shape art

A Destiny 2 expansion must provide some ridiculous new Exotic weapons and armor, and The Final Shape is no different. For some Exotic weapon examples, all Guardians can get the Still Hunt Sniper Rifle that can be powered up with Orbs of Power to fire Golden Gun shots, a revamped Khovostov Auto Rifle that fires ricocheting bullets, and the Heavy Kinetic Trace Rifle known as Microcosm that shreds shields.

Each Class also gets their own Exotic armor pieces, many of which are focused on Strand for more build opportunities there. Warlocks get the Mataiodoxia chest piece , which causes Strand Arcane Needles to emit suspending bursts when they kill an enemy, and the Speaker's Sight helmet , which turns Healing Grenades into little healing turrets. Titans can look forward to empowered Frenzied Blade strikes thanks to the Wishful Ignorance gauntlets or shoulder-fired rocket volleys with Hazardous Propulsion chest armor . As for Hunters, they can get an improved Threaded Specter with the Balance of Power boots , and can throw bouncing, jolting arc explosives at enemies when activating Ascension or Tempest Strike thanks to the Gifted Convinction chest .

That's only scratching the surface of some of the weapons and armor coming in The Final Shape, and there are plenty of updates coming to existing weapons and armor. If you want to know how your favorite weapons are being tuned, check out this preview blog from Bungie, and if you're after armor changes, read this blog .

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Dread enemies

Destiny 2 The Final Shape

Additionally, along the journey through the Pale Heart, you'll face a new enemy faction to fight known as the Dread. There are the screaming, bat-like Grim , melee menaces called Husks , Stasis-wielding Omens and their Attendants , and Strand-weaving Harbingers with their Weavers . Joining the Tormentors introduced in Lightfall, these foes will prove to be a serious challenge in combat, especially the Omens and Harbingers with their crowd-controlling Stasis and Strand abilities.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape showcase Episodes roadmap showing Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy

No. The Final Shape is not the end of Destiny 2 and Bungie has already revealed plans to keep the story going afterwards with Episodes – a different take on the seasonal model that has been running since late 2019 – starting with "Echoes". Note that the roadmap image is out of date but Bungie has not published an updated version. The Final Shape is, however, the end of the "Light and Darkness Saga", which is Bungie's term for Destiny's first decade of stories that began with Destiny 1. An annual expansion for 2025 has not been announced.

Here's every other new game for 2024 and beyond to look forward to, from Assassin's Creed Codename Red to Black Myth: Wukong.

Journey comes to an end for leadership ohio valley class of 2024.

journey 2 ending

NEW LEADERS — Members of the Leadership Ohio Valley Class of 2024 celebrated their graduation Sunday, bringing to an end their program. Graduates included, in front from left, Risha Marple, Ashley Flaherty, Lonna Flowers, Libby Reasbeck, and in back, Paul Zuros, Jason Heckathorn, Joe Quattrochi, Daniel Day, and Anthony Basil. The program is organized through the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce. -- Craig Howell

WEIRTON – Their program year may be over, but the journey for the members of the Leadership Ohio Valley Class of 2024 is just beginning.

The nine members of the class gathered Sunday for their final activity – graduation – with a luncheon at the Rhododendron Room in Weirton.

“Congratulations! You all made it,” declared Brenda Mull, president of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the program each year.

Leadership Ohio Valley brings together representatives of the local business community, providing opportunities to learn more about local government, healthcare, education, history and culture, and business.

At its core, it also showcases avenues for graduates to get more involved in their community through volunteerism and public service, along with a chance to network with others and form new bonds.

This year’s graduates, and their sponsors were Anthony Basil, The Frontier Group of Companies; Daniel Day, Rotary Club of Weirton; Ashley Flaherty, Youth Services System; Lonna Flowers, Hancock County Savings Bank; Jason Heckathorn, Madonna High School; Risha Marple, City of Weirton; Joe Quattrochi, Serra Village Retirement Community; Libby Reasbeck, Form Energy; and Paul Zuros, Hancock County Commission.

Through the program, the class is tasked with planning a series of monthly themed sessions, attending local civic and government meetings, volunteering with area organizations, and planning and implementing a group service project.

This year, the class organized a cleanup of Marland Heights Park, spending a portion of their day clearing leaves, landscaping, and cleaning playground equipment, along with other tasks.

Mull noted classes often tend to look at ways to put together extravagant projects, but, sometimes, the seemingly smaller efforts can have the most lasting impact.

“What you did, cleaning up Marland Heights Park, was phenomenal,” Mull said. “It needed to be done.”

Before accepting their certificates, which also allow them to receive one college credit through West Virginia Northern Community College, some members of the class expressed their appreciation to the chamber and the journey they took as part of Leadership Ohio Valley.

“This was a wonderful opportunity,” Flaherty said, noting it has provided her with a chance to connect with others and find mentors to assist with some of the programs offered by Youth Services System. “It’s been a great experience.”

Day also offered his thanks.

“This is truly a great program,” he said.

Mull encouraged the class to believe in themselves, to always find a way to move forward even in failure, and to always do their best.

“All you can do is all you can do. You can’t do anymore,” she said.

The Leadership graduates were assisted this year by the guidance of class coordinators Emily Byers, Rachel Keeney and Tony Viola, as well as session advisors Carole Scheerbaum, Stephanie O’Brien, Brandon Palmeri, Paul Cowey, Clayton Henderson and Crystal Harbert.

'The Jinx Part Two' Ending Explained - "Was It Worth It?"

Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for the finale of The Jinx Part Two.

  • Robert Durst evaded justice for many years due to the complicity of family and others but finally faced consequences for his crimes.
  • At the end of The Jinx Part Two , a new twist emerges through Durst's second wife, Debrah Charatan, who aided in managing his money and avoiding accountability.
  • The finale reveals that a wrongful death suit brought against Durst's estate by the family of his first wife, the McCormacks, continues on.

Every true crime junkie knows the story of Robert Durst. He was an extremely wealthy man who was the heir to a massive real estate fortune. But when his first wife, Kathleen McCormack, went missing in 1982, many suspected Durst was behind her disappearance. Durst's story got even more interesting when the case was reopened in 2000. His best friend, Susan Berman, allegedly knew of his connection to McCormack's disappearance; as soon as the case was reopened, Berman was found shot to death in her Beverly Hills home. And then, to add an even more bizarre twist to the story, his neighbor, Morris Black, was also murdered in 2003. Although Durst was somehow acquitted of Black's murder (even though he admitted to dismembering the body), investigators continued to try to prove that he was involved with the deaths of both McCormack and Berman ( he was eventually arrested for Berman's murder in 2015). Filmmaker Andrew Jarecki focuses the first six episodes of HBO's The Jinx on unraveling the mysteries behind Durst and his ties to these three deaths.

But in one shocking scene in the finale , which aired on March 15, 2015, Durst accidentally leaves his mic on during an interview with Jarecki. He goes into the bathroom, and while talking to himself, says, "What did I do? Killed them all, of course." The haunting confession not only made The Jinx a watercooler series at the time, but it also set a high bar for the true crime genre. Some were skeptical when it was announced that The Jinx would be coming back for six additional episodes (which started airing in April this year). Luckily, there were still plenty of surprising and dramatic moments attached to Durst's life. The very beginning of the final episode shows Durst being convicted of the murder of Berman, as well as receiving a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But what seemed like the end of Durst escaping justice was just one more chapter in this wild story.

'The Jinx Part Two' Reveals That Many People Were Complicit in Robert Durst's Crimes

Durst was somehow always able to avoid true punishment for his crimes, and he was able to pull off one more hat trick in that regard. Only three months after his sentencing, Durst died of cardiac arrest at the age of 78. McCormack's family, in particular, were frustrated that Durst had once again managed to get off easy. To add insult to injury for his victims, Durst's conviction was abated because his death prevented any appeals from going forward. So, the McCormacks decided to take further legal action by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Durst's estate (which is currently controlled by his second wife, Debrah Charatan). Much of the final episode consists of the interviews that were conducted as part of the depositions for this suit, and what these sworn statements reveal is that there were many people who consistently covered up for Durst.

The finale explores the dynamics within Durst's family and his siblings' suspicions that he was responsible for McCormack's disappearance — possibly even her death. Through their testimonies, Durst's two brothers and his sister divulge that they each had memories of Durst's violent side (even from a very young age). It's also revealed that the Durst Organization held a meeting right after McCormack disappeared, but after that meeting ended, no one spoke of McCormack again. During that tumultuous time, no member of the Durst family ever reached out to the McCormacks to offer support or resources. As one of the wealthiest families in the country, the Dursts could have easily tried to help discover what happened to McCormack. These deposition testimonies indicate that Durst was shielded by his family, but also by his vast wealth and status. The episode is called "It Takes a Village," which is apt; without the help of the people around him, Durst might not have been able to evade justice for so long.

If You Love 'The Jinx,' Watch This Intriguing True Crime Docuseries

A new chapter emerges in the story of 'the jinx'.

Every episode of The Jinx furthers the idea that Durst was a cold, calculating killer who used his massive wealth to skirt justice time and time again — but in the finale, a new party emerges. Charatan was Durst's second wife, but for all intents and purposes, their marriage was closer to a business arrangement. Many believed she married Durst for his money in order to help save her failing real estate business, but the timing of their marriage was even more suspicious. In 2000, when McCormack's case was being reopened by investigators. Durst married Charatan and booked a ticket to Los Angeles the very next day, shortly before Berman's death. Lisa DePaulo, a New York Magazine correspondent interviewed in The Jinx , notes that there were two people who potentially knew about Durst's crimes , citing that he married one and killed the other.

Charatan remained Durst's confidante and helped manage his money while he was imprisoned. With Durst's funds, she was able to amass a huge amount of wealth , which she used to buy and sell buildings in New York City. This revenue stream had many criticizing her as contributing to gentrification and claiming the buildings she owned were allowed to fall into disrepair. Charatan was also named trustee of Durst's estate, which meant that she was named in the McCormacks' wrongful death suit. However, as The Jinx Part Two reveals, there are jailhouse recordings that prove that Durst and Charatan collaborated to spend the money in the trust in case a wrongful death suit was ever brought against them. It should be noted that the wrongful death suit is still ongoing, as Charatan and her lawyers are continuing to fight the McCormacks at every turn.

The finale ends with title cards that provide updates to the story. One of the main players in the second half of The Jinx , Nick Chavin, died of heart failure shortly after filming his final interview. This is not surprising, as Chavin gets increasingly agitated while speaking about his own complicit behavior in going along with Durst; he's actually one of the few people in Durst's circle who is willing to admit to his own guilt on camera. Durst was capable of wrecking so many lives, but the final episode of The Jinx: Part Two also points out that the people around him who were sucked in by his money and privilege were also responsible for the pain he caused. It is a fitting end to a series that has been committed to discovering the truth about Durst from the very beginning.

The Jinx Part Two is now available to stream on Max.

A murder at the end of the world season 2 is not confirmed, could there be a murder at the end of the world season 2, what do the show's creators think about a murder at the end of the world season 2.

  • A Murder at the End of the World Season 2: Further News & Info
  • Season 2 of "A Murder at the End of the World" is uncertain, despite potential for continuation.
  • The show creators remain ambiguous about a second season.
  • The series could potentially take a Knives Out-style approach to introducing new mysteries and casts in future seasons.

FX's A Murder at the End of the World is envisioned as a one-season series, but could the murder mystery show ever get a season 2? The 2023 series follows a Gen-Z amateur sleuth named Darby Hart (Emma Corrin) who is invited to a remote retreat where she finds herself the lone detective in a gripping murder mystery. Unlike other murder mystery shows that draw on the past for inspiration, A Murder at the End of the World is fiercely modern, and juxtaposes classic mystery tropes with a prescient warning about the proliferation of technology.

The series has received a heap of positive critical attention, with some outlets praising its stylized approach while others appreciated the intentional skewering of common tropes. The show was co-created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, who had previously worked together on The OA which Netflix controversially canceled after two seasons. The series share themes about the dehumanizing effect of modern technology, and A Murder at the End of the World proves that those ideas remain interesting year after year. With that being said, the future of the new murder mystery series is uncertain.

A Second Season Probably Isn't Coming

Despite more than half a year passing since its premiere, the fate of A Murder at the End of the World season 2 has not been decided yet . Murder mysteries tend to get wrapped up from season to season, but that doesn't necessarily negate any chances of a second season in the future. Plenty of shows have bucked the trend and become ongoing series and A Murder at the End of the World could do just that by expanding its universe. However, so much time passing without any news is a worrying sign.

The options are almost unlimited for the fledgling miniseries, and there are some pretty high-profile examples for the series to follow if it wants to move forward. Even though season 1 wrapped up the initial plot, the cast of A Murder at the End of the World could come back with a whole new mystery story. Additionally, the series could follow the Knives Out franchise's lead , weave an entirely new mystery plot from installment to installment, and bring in different ensembles to help carry the seasons.

A Murder at the End of the World concluded on December 19, 2023.

No Clear Answer About Season 2

Unfortunately, the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes limited what show co-creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij could talk about while promoting the show. However, when the strikes were eventually resolved, the creative partners offered insight into what helped make A Murder at the End of the World a possibility. One topic that was brought up frequently was the sudden cancelation of The OA , with Batmanglij saying " I never dreamed that they would not finish it " (via The Guardian ). With that attitude in mind, it is highly likely that the creators will be looking to complete the story , one way or another.

Whether or not that indicates a second season is unclear, and nobody else involved has spoken on the subject of season 2 yet. Though the critical reception to A Murder at the End of the World was strong, only time will tell if plans are put in place to continue the story. In the modern age it isn't uncommon for shows to go away for years before suddenly resurfacing with a new season, but a fledgeling show like A Murder at the End of the World might not have garnered enough attention to rise above the fray.

ATLANTA (AP) — Ronald Acuña Jr. is emboldened at the start of his journey through a second major knee surgery and recovery by the knowledge he enjoyed such a successful comeback from his first procedure.

Acuña said Thursday that hasn’t stopped the tears from flowing as he adjusts to the reality his season ended when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sunday in Pittsburgh.

After the Braves announced Sunday night that an MRI showed a complete tear in the ligament, support started to come in for Acuña, the reigning NL MVP.

“I haven’t gotten around to replying to a lot of those messages because those messages come from a place of support,” Acuña said through a translator. “I just sort of break down and start crying. ... I know they just want what’s best for me.”

This is Acuña’s second season-ending knee injury. He tore his right ACL on July 20, 2021, and came back strong with his 2023 MVP season. Even though few players have had to recover from torn ACLs in both knees, he said his familiarity with the surgery and rehab gives him confidence.

“I think it has been easier to process this go around because I went through the process two years ago,” Acuña said.

Acuña said the surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Tuesday. ElAttrache also was the surgeon for the 2021 procedure. Acuña expects to spend a least one month in Los Angeles as he begins his rehabilitation with hopes of returning for the start of the 2025 season.

Acuña was hurt after opening Sunday’s 8-1 win over the Pirates with a double and then breaking from second base on a stolen base attempt. His left knee gave way when he stopped in an attempt to return to second base.

Acuña is a native of Venezuela and another native of his home country, former catcher Wilson Ramos, is one of the few players to continue playing following ACL repairs to both knees. Ramos injured his left knee in 2012 and his right knee in 2016, each time with Washington and then hurt his left knee again in 2021 with Cleveland.

Acuña said he has not reached out to Ramos or any player for advice.

“Fortunately for me it feels the same because I’ve already been through it,” he said.

Acuña said that despite “overwhelming” good wishes from fans, teammates and coaches, “all that support finds me at home crying by myself because I feel like I’m the one abandoning the team,” he said. “It feels like I’m the one letting everyone down.”

Manager Brian Snitker said he worries more about Acuña than the team.

“He loves to play and it’s tough because he does know what he’s in for,” Snitker said. “It’s good and bad.”

Snitker expects a successful recovery for Acuña, 26.

“He’s done it before and he’ll do it again,” Snitker said. “He’s young and strong.”

The Braves have lost two key players to season-ending injuries. All-Star right-hander Spencer Strider’s season ended on April 13 when he had internal brace surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.

“I’m going to take everything in stride,” Acuña said. “It’s another opportunity. Who knows? Maybe I can come back and win another MVP.”

Acuña said “the best of all” reminders is that the team won the 2021 World Series following his first injury. The offense has struggled during a sluggish showing in May.

“We’re here for a reason; every player on that roster is here for a reason,” Acuña said. “They’re certainly capable. They don’t need me to win a World Series.”
