Asia Tours & Vacations

People drinking, having fun and smiling in Asia

Welcome to Asia, the most populous, energetic and contradictory continent on earth.

Across one vast landmass you will find almost everything. Sci-fi skyscrapers in Japan , whitewashed mountain monasteries, honking moped shoals and silent Taoist temples, neon cityscapes and saffron-clad monks bent in prayer. If you’ve come for the familiar, you’re in for a surprise. You can munch deep-fried grasshoppers with white pepper in Thailand. Ride across the Mongolian tundra. Explore the rice paddy fields in Bali.  Swim with Burmese sea-gypsies. You will begin to understand - this place is where ordinary goes to die.

Normally, Asian airlines tend to offer check luggage amount from 20 KG as most purchased option by clients travelling within the region. Ultimately, the key is to pack efficiently and thoughtfully, prioritizing items that are essential for your comfort and enjoyment during your trip to Asia.

What kind of vacations this tour is?

This is a classic highlight tour with perfect balance of cultural diversity, rich history and interesting local interactions in Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand. With its easy level, this tour is friendly and suitable with almost everyone from family with children to senior visitors.

How many flights are included in the tour? Is the international flight from the US included in the price?

The tour price includes 3 internal flights: Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok & Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The international flights from your country are not included in the price. From our experience, as you are staying in USA/Canada/Europe, you will get better rates than we can for arrival/departure international flights. While we will have better price for airlines tickets in Asia region therefore, we suggest you to book these flight on your own.

How many people are there in the group tour on day 11?

We focus on the quality of the tour so with the group tour, we normally book with small groups. Depending on each day, the number of the participants will be different but it will not more exceed 15 people (appx.). If you are lucky, there may be only your group during the excursion.

If we arrive late on the first day & are not able to join the tour on this day, what will happen?

To join the activities on the first day, your flight must arrive in Singapore in the morning. If you arrive late, we can remove this part of the tour & the tour price will be changed.

What is the best time to visit Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand?

The best time to visit Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand is during the dry season, (from October to April) when the weather is not too hot & it doesn't rain too much. However, please note that this time is the high season for you may experience crowds during the trip. Travelling in the low season will give you a better price with less touristy experience.

Can we change the order of the destinations? Is it possible to start the tour in Thailand & finish it in Singapore?

Our tour is private & flexible so it's easy to customize the itinerary according to your request. You totally can choose your arrival/departure destination. Please kindly contact our Travel Experts & they will assist your trip.

We are elderly, so please avoid things like bicycles, kayaks, etc. We want to have a nice visit, see lots of sites, but the exercise should be mild?

Yes. Biking in Mekong day is just optional activity so if you don’t prefer it, we still have private car to backup among the places in the tour for you. Please don’t worry about that. For Kayaks in Halong Bay, it is also up to your choice. You can feel free to skip it.

The destinations in tour have any special requirements about clothes?

No. There are no any special compulsory requirements. Most of the tours you can wear comfortable clothes but any tour includes a visit to temples, please wear clothes longer than your knees, clothes with sleeves.

We are here to take the stress out of the holiday planning process. Let us help you plan an unforgettable journey of lifetime with High Quality & Affordable Price. Surely, you will feel satisfactory!

The great thing about South East Asia is it’s usually quite hot all year round, so it’s great to go at any time. There is a slightly higher chance of rain around July - November, however it usually only rains for an hour or so which can be a nice relief from the heat. Visiting from November - June may be a little cooler, however you’ll likely experience less rain and humidity.

Reviews of Small Group tours to South East Asia

I decided to go on this tour on my own at the beginning of this year and omg it was the best decision I think I’ve ever made. I met some incredible people and had the most amazing tour guide. Rio could not do more for his guests, he was so accommodating and made even the hard times (climbing up mount batur) funny. The tour it’s self is brilliant, you get to see so much in only ten days but not too much that it feels like all you’re doing is traveling from place to place. Thank you so much Bali bucklist tours for a perfect 10 days in Bali!
Everything was great however the 3 star hotels all featured beds that were way too hard, they were probably catering for a large proportion of Japanese tourists, meals were also probably .not what typical Australians would prefer. A sore back everyday was not what we had expected, we would have upgraded to 4 star if we had known in advance.
good organized tour with lots of places to visit

Southeast Asia

From cruises along the Perfume River in Hué, through the klongs of Bangkok, and on Siem Reap's Tonle Sap Lake... to the temples of Angkor... as you marvel at the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok... our Southeast Asia tours immerse you in a destination that truly personifies exotic travel.

Southeast Asia Escorted Tours

  • FEATURED TOURS

Welcome to Southeast Asia

Marvel at the rich tapestry of Southeast Asia... it's ancient temples, palaces, and picturesque villages... shrouded by the mists of time and the impenetrable rainforests. From the patchworks of rice paddies to ethereal mountains and colonial cities... these lands entice with understated beauty.

Discovering the incredible legacies of civilizations past in cambodia.

One of Cambodia's greatest treasures, the fabled archaeological site at Angkor covers an area twice the size of New York's Manhattan Island! This UNESCO World Heritage Site – which you'll visit on your Cambodian travels with Tauck – contains hundreds of temples and palaces built by the Khmer people between the 9th and 15th centuries, all shrouded by jungle until the 19th century. Its wonders include the vast, 12th-century Angkor Wat temple, a significant religious center through the ages, with walls covered by inspiring bas-reliefs and devatas (guardian spirits); the walled city of Angkor Thom, home to the richly decorated Bayon Temple and the Elephant Terrace; and fascinating Ta Prohm Temple, originally a Buddhist university and monastery, now enveloped by centuries-old jungle roots and vines, and virtually a part of the dense rainforest that surrounds it.

A land of contrasts with a history of conflicts and strong cultural traditions... experience today's Vietnam with Tauck

Currently experiencing a period of peace and stability after decades of colonialism and conflict, Vietnam is a nation of contrasts, with a long and often turbulent history, and strong cultural traditions that have endured for centuries. Exploring today's Vietnam with Tauck – both in the countryside and in cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Hué, Da Nang and Hoi An – you'll discover poignant reminders of war, like the Cu Chi Tunnels and the notorious Hoa Lo Prison… witness the legacy of peace as you visit a kindergarten in Da Nang… enjoy an enchanting water puppet performance, an art form unique to Vietnam and popular since the 18th century... and experience life along the country's historic waterways on an overnight cruise among the limestone islets of Vietnam's majestic Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known in local legend as the "Bay of the Descending Dragons."

The ancient and the modern (and more) in Thailand

Thailand is an intriguing mix of the ancient and the modern, the futuristically urban and the traditionally rural, the dizzying whirl of contemporary life and the tranquility of the ages… all of which you'll experience when you visit with Tauck. Nowhere are these contrasts more evident than in the remarkable capital city, Bangkok… home to some of the most stunningly modern architecture in the world… centuries-old palaces and temples sheltering Buddhas from Emerald to Giant to Reclining… and the klongs, the bustling canals where much of the city's daily life takes place. Elsewhere, in countryside villages outside the city of Chiang Mai, the people of the region's rural hill tribes observe traditional ways of life; each has its own language, customs and crafts, and is happy to share them with visitors like you.

Asia Travel

Tour asia: everything, everywhere, all at once, all the time.

Sum up touring Asia in a paragraph? Good luck. Positively massive by just about every measure, the sole thread that unites this diverse continent is the sheer diversity of experiences it presents to travellers. Arid deserts and towering peaks; secluded temples and bustling markets; tiny villages and sprawling cities; ancient history and cutting-edge modernity; teeming crowds and places so remote you won’t find another human being around for miles—Asia encompasses all this and so, so, so much more. Don’t expect to absorb it all; dive on in and let it seep into your skin.

Tours to Asia

Home to some of the world's most vibrant cities, serene rural scenes, highest mountains and great swathes of desert, Asia has surprises at every turn. Our holidays to Asia cover the must-sees and must-dos, from the Taj Mahal to the Himalayas.

Ways to explore Asia

Walking and trekking, boat journeys, rail journeys, food and drink, multi-activity, discover our asia tours.

From the serene surrounds of Angkor Wat in Cambodia , to the bright lights and bustling metropolis of  Hong Kong , Asia is a continent full of contrasts. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of  Vietnam  with a cruise around the verdant limestone islands of Halong Bay, or get away from the main tourist trail to discover the lush  mangroves of Khao Sam Roi Yot  in Thailand. Watch the sun rise over the sacred Angkor Wat temple in the Cambodian jungle, and don’t overlook  Laos , a lesser-known gem of South-East Asia, boasting saffron-robed monks, spectacular waterfalls and kayaking excursions.  Join our classic  Golden Triangle Tour  in India to experience the chaotic markets of Delhi and visit the celestial Taj Mahal at dawn. The Great Wall of China and Xian’s Terracotta Army are must-see highlights on our  China tours , while the ultramodern cityscape of Tokyo will blow you away on our  trips to Japan . From the iconic  Silk Road  cities and camel rides in the desert to overnight stays in traditional yurts, our small group tours to Central Asia will transport you into a world of rich history, ornate architecture and friendly locals.  For a more active adventure, Asia is a great place to explore on two wheels. Explore the Knuckles Range on our  Sri Lanka Cycling Tour , or jump in the saddle for a cultural ride along rugged coastlines on our  Saigon to Hanoi Cycling Adventure . If you prefer to explore on foot, don your walking boots and climb the dizzy heights of the Himalayas with our  Nepal Trekking Holidays , or for something beyond the beaten track,  Georgia  has some spectacular walking trails in the Caucasus Mountains.

Tickle your taste buds with Seoul’s endless street treats. Feel the sand between your toes on the beaches of Busan. Close your eyes and groove to infectious K-Pop bops. Immerse yourself in the history of ancient Buddhist temples. In other words, a group trip to South Korea is the best kind of sensory overload.

Wonderful experience :)

“Fantastic first trip with EF! Got to experience the bustle of the city, learn about the history of the different dynasties, and enjoy a variety of wonderful food! Lots of walking (I averaged ~15k steps per day) so make sure to bring comfortable shoes. Busan was by far my favorite part of the trip - I loved walking along the beach and the Gamcheon Village! I made wonderful friends and created memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime!"

–Elizabeth, traveled on South Korea Spotlight Aug. 2023

“Jam-packed trip with the highlights of South Korea. Sohey is an amazing guide who knows so much history! Be prepared to walk up many stairs and mountains! Especially at Bulguska Temple. Some of my favorite moments were eating all the amazing food, the K-Pop dance class, nights out in Seoul, a visit to Spaland in Busan, and making so many new friends!"

–Brittany, traveled on South Korea Spotlight Jun. 2023

Know before you go

.css-1m22qs9{-webkit-align-items:center;-webkit-box-align:center;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center;background:none;border:0;color:inherit;display:grid;font-size:17px;font-weight:700;line-height:1.2;grid-template-columns:1fr auto;margin:0;padding:16px;text-align:left;width:100%;}.css-1m22qs9 path{stroke:#191919;} language .css-xxs3zl{-webkit-align-items:center;-webkit-box-align:center;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center;display:-webkit-box;display:-webkit-flex;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;}@media print{.css-xxs3zl{display:none;}}.

The official language of South Korea is Korean. While it may feel awkward at first, attempting the local language goes a long way when navigating a city and interacting with people. Practice these basic phrases to get started:

  • Hello: An-nyeong-ha-se-yo
  • Goodbye: An-nyeon-ghi ga-se-yo
  • Thank you: Go-map-seum-ni-da
  • Excuse me: Sill-ye-ham-ni-da
  • No: A-ni-yo
  • Cheers: Geonbae

As you prepare to spend time in a new culture, here are some expert tips to help you get the lay of the land and feel like a true local.

  • Short bows with eyes closed are a common form of greeting.
  • Age is considered very important, and may be one of the first things locals ask about upon meeting you.
  • Chopsticks are a staple of the cuisine and culture. Attempting to use chopsticks instead of western cutlery will earn you some respect with the locals, but be wary of using chopsticks to point at someone, poke at food, or play them like musical instruments - these are all signs of disrespect.
  • If you need to put down your chopsticks while eating, put them on the table or lie them horizontally across the rim of your bowl. Avoid sticking them upright into the bowl.
  • Korean food is spicy, but resist the urge to blow your nose at the table. Excuse yourself to the restroom if you need to do so.
  • There is a distinct lack of public trash cans throughout the cities in South Korea. Most locals carry their trash in a bag with them until they come across one.
  • Pushing and shoving isn't considered rude. Cities are incredibly crowded, and bumping into people constantly is so inevitable, that you won't be hearing any sort of "excuse me".
  • Avoid comparing South Korea to other Asian countries, particularly Japan. Koreans are very proud people that value the country's individualism, and they have a rocky history with Japan.

Food & Drink

South Korea's food scene is one of its most beloved aspects bursting with flavor and variety. These are just a few signature offerings to get you started off:

  • Kimchi: Get ready for a lot of kimchi. Many Koreans don't consider a meal complete without these fermented vegetables.
  • Bulgogi: Grilled marinated beef, often flavored with garlic and onions.
  • Bibimbap: This rice-based dish is loaded up with toppings that can vary wildly but often included beef, eggs, and vegetables.
  • Japchae: A typical stir fry differentiated by the use of glass noodles made from sweet potato starch.
  • Fried chicken: There's a reason Korean fried chicken places have become popular elsewhere in the world. The crispy texture and sweet-and-sauces make it dangerously craveable.
  • Hotteok: These sweet, syrup-filled pancakes with notes of cinnamon and peanuts are a popular street food.
  • Samgyetang: A ginseng chicken soup for the soul with garlic, scallion, rice, and spices.
  • Makgeolli: A light, sweet rice wine that is easy to drink but can pack a punch.
  • Soju: This "Korean vodka" typically made from rice comes in a wide variety of flavors and is typically sipped neat and chilled.

We plan it all. And then some.

Our group trips to South Korea come with everything included. That’s accommodations, daily breakfasts, activities, and an expert Tour Director who always knows where to find the best kimchi.

Asia Group Tours for Solo Travelers

Travel solo as part of a luxury group tour to countries in Asia

Why Travel Solo To Asia?

From Southeast Asia’s tropical islands to arid desert sands of Jordan the extreme west, a group solo trip to Asia offers the sort of diversity that’ll see you returning, time and time again.

Navigate Old Delhi’s local markets or trek surrounded by spectacular scenery and volcanoes in Bali. Maybe you want to experience the beauty of the Dead Sea in Jordan, where you can float on the saline-rich water, staring at the sun. Or why not dial up the chill factor, by staying on your own private island in the Philippines? Yes, even this is possible with group solo travel.

Elsewhere, support baby turtles as they return to the Sri Lankan ocean. Camp like a Bedouin among the dunes of Jordan’s Wadi Rum. Discover new flavors and local dishes on a street-food safari in Vietnam. And finally, slow down, take yoga classes and tick off temples in Laos’ laid-back Luang Prabang.

Got a particular region in mind? Take your pick from Southeast Asia and the Middle East .

Fragrant food, peaceful landscapes private islands, here are a few things you should know about a group solo trip to Asia

Demographic

Asia’s population is currently around 4.7 billion and still growing, covering a wide variety of countries from Turkey to Thailand. The most populous country is China, with nearly 1.4 billion people, and the least populated are the Maldives and Bhutan.

The cultures of Asia read like a roll call of heavyweights. India: the cradle of the world’s oldest religion. The Middle East: the birthplace of agriculture, mathematics and writing. China, which gave the world printing and paper. All cultures that flourished along the old Silk Road.

Sushi and dim sum; pho soup and pad thai; laksa and masala. From Japan to India (and everywhere in between), the cuisines of Asia are known and loved the world over. Of course, nothing quite compares to tasting it at the source.

A mosaic of forests, grasslands, and extraordinary wetlands – Asia has it all. For mountains, you can do no better than the almighty Himalayas. For quiet rural peace, Japan is your choice. For tropical islands with white-sand beaches, Thailand and the Philippines might just top your list.

You’ll find tigers and elephants living across eastern Asia, from India to Indonesia. Asiatic lions, tigers and snow leopards are rare and secretive – but possible. Safaris skip over from Africa, with a more fast-paced take offered in the national parks of Sri Lanka and India. Don’t miss the Japanese macaque, bathing in frosty natural onsen (hot springs).

  • How to Plan a Trip to Southeast Asia 2024 (First-Timers' Guide)

Longing for an exotic couple's/family vacation? A 10–30-day trip to Southeast Asia will fulfill your dreams for a tropical travel experience with its sunny beaches, verdant jungles, adorable elephants, charming old towns, dynamic metropolises, diverse tasty foods, traditional floating markets, and mysterious temple complexes.

Southeast Asia consists of 11 countries. They're conveniently connected to each other by 1–3-hour flights. More than 95% of couples and families choose to visit 2–3 SE Asian countries in one trip.

The five most popular destinations for the SE Asia first-timer are Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia (mainly Bali). For a deeper cultural exploration and a longer trip, Myanmar and Laos come onto the list most frequently.

Spend 5–10 minutes on the following 6 steps to get an instant overview of how to plan a worry-free trip to Southeast Asia.

  • 1. Where to Go
  • 2. How Many Days to Stay
  • 3. The Best Times to Travel

4. Plan Your Budget

1. Choose Where to Go

Among all our couples' and family clients' choices, the best-selling itineraries cover the Southeast Asia travel hubs of Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket / Koh Samui), Vietnam (Halong Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh) and Cambodia (Angkor Wat). >> How to Plan a 3-Week Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam Tour

Bali in Indonesia, known locally as 'the Island of the Gods', is one of the best choices if you love the thought of sun-soaked beaches, volcano trekking, and scenic countryside with terraced rice fields.

Singapore , a clean and modern city, is one of the most family-friendly destinations in Southeast Asia. It is favored by families due to its arts, fashion, food, culture, and big-name events.

Luang Prabang in Laos and Bagan in Myanmar are favored choices for couples who love charming romantic old towns, fascinatingly-designed temples, and Buddhist culture.

1) Thailand: Temples, Elephants, Beaches

Thailand is the travel hub of Southeast Asia. Within its borders are sunny beaches, ornate temples, and lush national parks and jungles. There is so much to do in Thailand, whether you want to explore and have fun with kids, or enjoy romantic moments with your significant other.

Whether traveling as a family or couple, meeting elephants in a jungle, taking a Thai cooking class , and exploring Bangkok's classic temples, amazing food, and floating markets are all must-dos.

For your choice of islands, Koh Samui is more recommended for couples due to its quiet and romantic vibe. While Phuket is more suitable for families with kids, as it's known for its abundant water sports and activities.

Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai is definitely not to be missed, where you can see the romantic scene of countless flying lanterns released into the sky.

For a special experience, you could spend an amazing evening with your spouse/partner (and kids) in Kanchanaburi's floating house or a tree house in Khao Sok National Park.

2) Vietnam: Outdoor Adventures, Scenic Wonders, Countryside Relaxation

Hanoi and Hoi An represent traditional Vietnam, Halong Bay represents scenic Vietnam, while Ho Chi Minh epitomizes modern Vietnam with many great museums.

Hanoi is a must because of the incredible, buzzing Old Quarter, displaying history at every turn.

A luxury Halong Bay cruise is recommended for both couples and families. Spend 1–2 nights boating around the numerous islands and admiring the karst formations rising from the sea.

There are many exciting activities in Halong Bay, like kayaking, swimming, and cycling. If your plan to celebrate a big event, we can help arrange a more private cruise only for you as a couple or just your family members.

Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's most fashionable city, known for its amazing food, skyscrapers, and sleepless bars. It is also a must-visit for everyone with an interest in history due to its many museums!

After 2–3 hours' driving from Ho Chi Minh, you can transit from city's dynamism to the primitive simplicity of the Mekong Delta. Get to see how the local Vietnamese keep their traditional lifestyle: trading in the floating markets , making sugar in a family workshop , living in a boat house , etc.

Further reading:  Itinerary options for 2 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia

3) Cambodia: Culture Immersion

Angkor Wat, without a doubt, is the biggest attraction in Cambodia. It is a place where children can experience the culture's charms as well as adults. It was once the capital of the Khmer kingdom — the most powerful in Southeast Asian history. There, you can walk through the ruins of once-glorious buildings and discover their history.

  • Itinerary options for 2 weeks in Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia

4) Bali: Luxury Beach Resorts

For those who like all the fun close together, Bali is a one-stop enjoyment island with incredible beach resorts, beautiful beaches, water sports, yoga, a wild nightlife, friendly people, and enough shops to shop until you drop.

It is one of the most popular destinations in SE Asia, and once you get there you will instantly understand why.

There you can embrace your loved one(s) in a cruise under the sunset, relax at a spa surrounded by nature, cycle through the rice terraces, take cooking classes, go on a volcano sunrise trek ...

5) Singapore: Convenience, Quality, Universal Studios…

Singapore is extremely family friendly with its convenient amenities, widely-spoken English, various cuisines, Universal Studios, and big events, like the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Tour recommendation : 13-Day Private Singapore and Bali Journey of Discovery

6) Laos: Slow-Paced Vibe, Buddhist Heritage

Heading somewhat off the Southeast Asia beaten track, Laos is a beautiful and tranquil nation offering UNESCO World Heritage sites, charming old towns, stunning natural scenery, tribal villages, diverse ethnic arts, adventure, outdoor activities, and amazing food.

Luang Prabang is its most popular destination as a result of the many beautiful historical sites, the unique surrounding scenery, the pure alms-giving ceremony, as well as its elephant sanctuary with well-preserved habitat.

Tour recommendation : 14-Day Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos Tour

7) Myanmar: A Romantic Way to See Temple Relics

There's nothing more romantic in Myanmar than taking a hot air balloon ride in Bagan over 2,000 pagodas and temples to watch the sunrise from the sky.

Bagan is enthusiastically loved by photographers, couples, and people who are sympathetic to Buddhism.

Visit Bagan before it's overwhelmed by tourists!

Tour recommendation : 17-day Private tour to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos

2. Decide How Many Days to Stay

According to our data, most visitors spend 13–18 days on their first Southeast Asia trip to explore Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

1. 10–12 Days (time-efficient):

For a shorter excursion, focus on one country or a maximum of two to avoid the hassles of frequent hotel changes and rushing to airports. Consider popular combinations like Thailand and Cambodia , Thailand and Vietnam , Vietnam and Cambodia , or Singapore and Thailand .

With our expertly crafted itinerary, it is also possible to effortlessly visit three countries , such as our 12-Day Essential Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam Tour , which covers the highlights of these captivating destinations.

Here is a sample itinerary to visit Thailand and Cambodia  (with the map below).

2. 15–18 Days (for highlights):

With a bit more time, you can comfortably explore two or three countries . This allows for a deeper immersion into the local culture and a more relaxed pace. Consider combinations like Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, or select two among the three countries.

See our private tour 15-Day Best of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam Tour  (with the map below).

3. 20–30 Days (in-depth):

For an extended holiday, ranging from 20 to 30 days, you can embark on a thorough exploration of the entire peninsula . This duration is ideal for covering countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos. Devote time to immerse yourself in the unique offerings of each destination.

3. Consider the Best Times to Travel

Lying within the tropics with southern areas very close to the equator, most of Southeast Asia is warm all year round.

  • Generally speaking, the best time to visit most places in Southeast Asia is from November to February when the weather is dry (driest) and warm (on average). One of the busiest times is around Christmas and New Year. Hotels in popular cities/islands and flights between popular destinations are likely to be sold out in advance. Be sure to plan and make reservations in advance.
  • Wet-season monsoon rains fall from June to October in most SE Asian countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar). The brief, intense rain showers during the wet season are unlikely to disrupt your plans.
  • April to May are the hottest months with daytime temperatures reaching 37–40°C (99–104°F).

However, Indonesia (Bali) and Singapore are exceptions .

  • The dry seasons in these two countries are from April to September.
  • The rainy season (usually downpours in the afternoon) falls from October to March.

The rainy season and the hottest months usually reward you with less crowding and the best deals for flights and hotels. Take your outdoor activities mainly in the morning time during the rainy season.

Check out more on our Best Times to Visit Southeast Asia .

Traveling in Southeast Asia is way cheaper than in Europe and North America. A private tour in this region becomes an affordable indulgence , promising a luxurious experience without breaking the bank.

Hotels here won't break the bank. A 3-star hotel in Thailand is around 50-70 USD, and a 4-star one is 80-100 USD. Even luxury hotels cost as much as budget ones in the UK or US. You can go fancy or save big by staying in a hostel.

Eating is super affordable, thanks to awesome street food. Street vendors and small restaurants are cheap, and even fancy international meals in good restaurants won't cost more than a regular dinner in the UK or US. Imagine paying just 10 bucks for lunch and 20 to 50 USD for a nice dinner.

Activities are a steal too. Entry fees to temples and tourist spots are generally low, and adventurous experiences such as elephant trekking, snorkeling, and boat trips seldom exceed 20 USD.

Booking a trip to Thailand with Asia Highlights is excellent value for money!

In a region full of choices and potential tourist traps, we're here to reveal authentic Southeast Asia. Crafted by travel experts, our trips focus on culture, genuine experiences, and creating unforgettable memories together.

Costs vary with travel times. During the peak season, the cost for a private guided tour plus 4-star level hotels and flight connections within Southeast Asia normally ranges from US$200–250 per person per day . Kids under 10 get 30 to 50 percent off . Traveling in a bigger group or during shoulder season usually means less cost.

Book early (at least 3 months before departure) for better prices.

Flights from major U.S. cities to Southeast Asia require transfers. It takes less time to transfer via Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Seoul.

As popular tourist destinations and large cities in Southeast Asia, Thailand's Bangkok and Vietnam's Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are usually visited as a first point of entry.

Air travel is the best way to travel between countries in Southeast Asia. Almost all capitals and popular tourist destinations have direct regional flights.

Booking a private tour with us, we will arrange your transportation within Southeast Asia. Our travel consultant will search the flight schedules, arrange the best connections, and book the air tickets.

6. Check Visa Requirements

Getting visas is generally an easy thing when touring Southeast Asia. Most countries offer visa-free entry, e-visas, or visas-on-arrival.

If you come from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, or Switzerland, the following are available:

Why wait? The world is calling you now!

When it comes to traveling, one of the most stressful parts can be the planning, making sure each member of your family or friend group is in agreement on the itinerary, hotel, spending and more. Want to avoid all of that?

We recommend a solo trip!

Traveling on your own can seem scary, but with the proper preparation and a good head on your shoulders, the world is ready for you to explore it right now. Going it solo, there are a few less things to worry about like a hotel room size (you just need one bed!) and group flights, but there also some nuances to make note of.

That’s why we interviewed a professional solo traveler, who now helps others get outside of their comfort zone and off into the great unknown.

We chatted with Jen Tenzer, founder of The Soloist , a luxury solo travel advisory site with all the tips and tricks you could need when going it alone. She let us in on some insider tips, plus mapped out where the best places to venture solo are, from the Americas to Asia, Europe and beyond.

  • Solo travel FAQ

A man with a backpack exploring a canyon and hiking in southwestern America

What our experts say: “Sedona, Austin, and New York City — These cities are very concentrated and accessible, with tons of activities to keep solo travelers busy. Consider a wellness hotel in Sedona, a foodie walking tour in Austin, or a solo museum visit in NYC,” said Tenzer.

What our editors say: What can I say — since New York City is on the expert list and I totally agree. As cliché as it may be, the Big Apple has endless options for solo travelers, from watching a Broadway show to seeing landmarks or just exploring the many museums and parks the five boroughs have to offer.

Sedona, Arizona: If you’re in need of a wellness moment, go it solo to the southwest and head to Sedona, Arizona. For an actual retreat, check out the Sedona Mago Center for a SunTao spa. If you prefer solo excursions, head here for hikes and tours to do solo.

Austin, Texas: For a true blue Texas trip, consider going alone to Austin. This is the best place to catch a live show and vibe with likeminded people, or, as our expert recommended, join a food tour and leave full of BBQ and great memories.

New York City, New York: What can’t you do in New York? Our expert first recommended a Broadway show, and we couldn’t agree more. Find tickets here and then plan the rest of your trip, with tours designed for solo travelers like you.

Couple dressed in ponchos watching the ruins of Machu Picchu

What our experts say: “Costa Rica and Peru — Same as above! These destinations are safe for solo travelers, have a well-established tourism infrastructure, and most people interacting with tourists will speak English,” said Tenzer. “I love the idea of a wellness-focused surf and yoga retreat in Costa Rica or joining a group trek to Machu Picchu!”

What our editors say: I need to add Brazil to this list, since I did take a trip there myself. For a more friendly and party atmosphere where you are bound to meet other backpackers and solo travelers, Rio de Janeiro would be a great home base. I also took a solo trip into the Amazon Rainforest, which was a crazy adventure, but when done right, was a life-changing and introspective trip to do on my own.

Costa Rica: Per our expert, unwind and relax with a yoga retreat, staying at the Pura Vida Retreat & Spa . You can also book surf lessons to stay active or book a multi-day tour here so you don’t have to make your own itinerary.

Peru: Machu Picchu is a top bucket list destination for many, so why wait for a group to go? Instead, join an EF tour that also takes you to Lima and Cuzco, and even the Amazon Rainforest should you opt to extend. If you’d rather explore on your own, book a highly-rated hostel for budget lodging, sorted by city.

Brazil: Brazil is a huge country, so we advise you to pick a few places or spend a long time exploring. For a true cultural explosion, Rio is the place to be and you can take daily tours of Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain and more. For the more adventurous, take a flight to Manaus and enter the Amazon Rainforest. We did it in spring 2022 and took our tour here.

What our experts say: “England, Portugal, Italy… I could go on and on! European cities in general make for perfect for solo trips because everything is walkable, there’s tons of activities to keep you busy, and the expansive European train network makes it easy to transfer between cities,” said Tenzer.

What our editors say: I added two countries to our expert list: Spain and Switzerland. Spain is a great one to tack on to the end of any European adventure, as it is super closely connected to Portugal and Italy from the list. You can go from the northern Basque country to the south of Valencia and see a huge range of culture, food and architecture in just one country.

England: To start, flights from the US to England aren’t too hard to find, and savvy travelers can use Skyscanner to find the best deals. Once you’ve arrived, rent a cottage for a relaxing stay in a town of your choice or head into the thick of it and go to London for a full itinerary of solo things to see and do.

Portugal: Portugal is a great country to explore solo, with Lisbon and Porto as standouts for a great combo of nature and city life. If you like to be solo but also experience a place as the locals do, consider a tour or activity with a local guide , like a cooking class or a walking tour.

Italy: Italy may seem like a place of romance, but it can also be a place of self-love for the solo traveler. Use the railroads to book trains throughout the country so you can see it all, from Rome to Florence to Venice and beyond to see the country for yourself. You can also book a solo tour through EF and not worry about making your own itinerary.

Spain: Architecture, food and culture blend seamlessly together in Spain. See it for yourself, with a trip through the country. We personally started in Barcelona and then headed to Madrid and Valencia, all via train or bus. Then load your days with museums, walking tours or even dance classes to fully immerse yourself in the Spanish lifestyle.

Bali, Indonesia, traveler on tree house at Diamond Beach in Nusa Penida Island.

What our experts say: “Thailand, Bali, and Vietnam — These destinations are safe for solo travelers, have a well-established tourism infrastructure, and most people interacting with tourists will speak English. There’s so much to see and explore here,” said Tenzer.

What our editors say: I have to agree 100% with Thailand, as I lived there on my own for six months. The country is easy to explore via public transit, cabs and even short flights, inexpensive to travel in and has some of the best food, nature and culture I have been exposed to.

Thailand: What can I say about Thailand? I personally lived there for six months and still never ran out of things to do alone, and also ran into plenty of other solo travelers and backpackers throughout the country. If you want some guidance, consider a tour with an itinerary. If not, be sure to keep your wits about you and make sure to visit Bangkok , with a trip north to Chiang Mai and a trip south to the islands of Krabi or Phuket for the full Thailand picture.

Bali, Indonesia: Once you’ve booked your ticket to Bali, the rest of the trip is all about relaxing, unwinding and taking in the incredible nature. It is also a surfing hot spot, should you like to take a lesson from just $14. Bali is also famous for yoga, so why not stay at a spa and yoga retreat to charge up for your next adventure?

Vietnam: There are plenty of things to do in Vietnam, making it another hot spot for backpackers and solo travelers who want to explore Asia . Built on the water, be sure to take some tours down Halong Bay and the Mekong River, or take an island day trip to get all the sun and sand you need.

"Eastern Caribbean Sea - February 8, 2010: A luxury cruise ship anchors in the water as passengers are taken by ferry to the local tropical island for a day of sun and fun."

What our expert says: “Another less-obvious way to travel solo is by joining a group retreat or cruise ! You’re still traveling alone to a new destination and surrounding yourself with strangers, but there’s a comfort in knowing that you’re not  truly  alone in an emergency. It also takes some of the stress out of things when everything is pre-planned for you. Group travel experiences are a great way to tiptoe into solo travel,” said Tenzer.

Solo travel FAQ with an expert:

What is the appeal of traveling alone? “Solo travel offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with your core wants and needs,” said Tenzer. Solo travel enables you to explore wherever and whenever you want, stick to a tight budget or truly treat yourself and fill your days with whatever activities light you up! It’s a newfound freedom that allows you to return from vacation actually refreshed.  You’ll return re-motivated to show up for everyone in your life as your best self!”

What are some benefits of solo travel? “Solo travel is incredibly empowering,” said Tenzer. “You don’t know how capable you truly are until you’ve pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone. Solo trips always come with the added benefit of a self-confidence boost. Solo travel is also a fantastic way to meet like-minded new friends. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but I’ve met infinitely more people traveling solo than when traveling with a companion.”

Who should solo travel? “There’s a bit of cliché around solo travel; that it’s best suited for 20-something single backpackers on a gap year,” said Tenzer. “In reality, there are all sorts of reasons why someone may choose to travel alone: A major life transition like a breakup, career change or the loss of a loved one. Maybe they’re feeling burnt out and craving a personal recharge, or maybe they’re just sick of waiting for other people’s travel schedules and budgets to perfectly align. I’ve had solo travel clients in their 20s and in their 70s. The common tie amongst solo travelers isn’t a certain demographic, it’s a certain state of mind — ready to shake things up and have an adventure.”

How long do I need to solo travel for? “Solo travel doesn’t have to mean an intimidating 2-week trip to some far flung destination. The same solo travel benefits can be obtained from a weekend away to a nearby city you’ve always wanted to explore,” said Tenzer. “I always recommend starting small in your own city. Try visiting a museum on your own or dining out alone. Or, if you’re traveling with family, maybe you spend some time alone during the day and meet up with everyone else at dinner.”

When choosing lodging, what are some tips and tricks for solo travelers? “It’s important to pick a hotel that’s centrally-located in the heart of your destination,” suggested Tenzer. “This is not the time to pick a budget hotel located outside the city in a remote area. Ideally, your hotel is walkable to all of the major sights and attractions, so that you have the freedom to come and go as you please without being reliant on taxis. I also don’t recommend Airbnb’s for a first big solo trip, and prefer the support and safety that comes from a front desk staff who can help in a pinch.
