Florence Cooking Class with Locals

Though many come to Florence to see the art, the architecture and historic sites which have changed the course of history several times over, it is without a doubt wine and food which linger in their memory when they go home.

If you are looking for a cooking class in Florence , you have found the right opportunity. This hands-on class will take place in the historic center of the Tuscan city and may include a guided food and wine tour through Florence's historic food markets.

A classical Tuscan meal in the heart of Florence

Florence Tour has an exclusive opportunity for guests to meet with the locals and become apart of creating a classical Tuscan meal in the heart of Florence with the aim of teaching Tuscan traditions of food & wine .

The experience is more than just learning how to cook the family recipes but a moment in the day of a real Florentine family! Where Paola herself and sometimes Allegra, her daughter,  is helping her out too.

Gather in the family home, just a short walk from the historic center , roll up your sleeves and risk a bit of flour in your hair as you make a full meal together with your hostess .

The 'Florence Cooking Class' menu consists of 4 courses, which you will savor at the end of the 3-hours preparation

There will be classical Tuscan appetizers, an entertaining hands-on handmade pasta, a main course with vegetables and everyone’s favorite dessert: Tiramisu!   Of course, the meal is accompanied by wine, bread, and coffee.

This is one the best ways to create lasting memories of Florence and building lifelong friendship – over a plate of ravioli and a red Chianti Classico wine glass.

This is can be a kid-friendly cooking class too since this a private one and we can customize the class at every request.

There is the extra possibility to add a visit at the local Mercato Centrale in San Lorenzo area of Sant’ Ambrogio food market   and to purchase vegetable, cheese, meet with Paola  and to get to know the local producers.

Check out Paola availability and book your cooking class as soon as you can.

This fortified enclosure makes this town totally unique because you can easily walk and cycle over it.

If you like to bike we can easily rent them and discover the city biking.

The tour proceeds with a walk or bike along via Finlungo, the main axis of the historic core, which is lined with ancient houses and towers and stops at the Roman Amphitheatre square.

The enchanting walls of  Lucca , as the city grew and modernized, surrounded the old town and were maintained which was not the case for many other cities in Tuscany, including Florence. As the walls lost their military importance, the top of the walls became a pedestrian promenade, today one of Lucca’s main attractions.

Commonly referred to as the “city of one hundred churches” due to a large number of religious buildings which represent marvelous examples of architectural Italian styles.

Pisa , once served as one of the main Italian maritime republics, until the sand and sediment from the Arno river moved the shoreline towards what is now Livorno and your port of call.

From mysterious beginnings, this city is now famous worldwide for its leaning bell tower, Pisa also boasts a beautiful cathedral, one of the earliest known universities (from the 1200’s), over 20 churches and home to many special talents like that of Andrea Bocelli.

Mr Michael Lopatin

Our guide, Leonardo, was fantastic. Spent the time on the road talking about the areas we passed and their history. Humor added throughout. Saw 3 of the 5 fishing villages, though 2 would have been sufficient. The weather was nice so we were able to take the ferry between 2 of the villages. We trained back and Leonardo met us at the train station. We only had to walk the dowhills! A lot of beautiful landscapes to behold. Worth the trip.

Mrs Maxine MIller

Perfect. Beautifully organized.

A wonderful day out with visits to three towns, all with their own unique identity.

4. Best Sightseeing Tour: Cinque Terre Day Trip with Optional Hike and Lunch

  • Departure Point : Santa Maria Novella train station
  • Duration : 13 hours
  • Includes : Transportation to and from Cinque Terre from Florence, guided hike through all 5 villages of Cinque Terre, time allotted for swimming, entrance into the Parco Nazionale Cinque Terre

For some, there’s nothing quite like experiencing a beautiful place like Cinque Terre on foot. This hiking day trip from Florence will allow you to do just that. You also may want to bring swimming attire so you can enjoy a few minutes in the cool, salty waters of this coastal area.

There are dozens of various walking paths that weave in and out of each of the 5 villages that make up Cinque Terre. The Sentiero Azzurro links all of the villages while offering breathtaking views of each coastal area and the fishing commerce below.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site has much to offer the hiker. Your experienced guide will make it even better as you learn of the history of Cinque Terre and are taken to some of the most impactful locations here. For example, the church in Vernazza with a cornerstone that’s dated 1338.

Your Guide to Florence & Cinque Terre Italy

If you’re planning a vacation to Florence, Italy you should know what airport you’ll be flying into, the best accommodations available, what restaurants to stop by, and more. In this travel guide, we give you all the information you’ll need to get started planning your vacation. Have you been to Florence and want to suggest a tourist stop or restaurant? Comment below!

Airports & Entry

There is a small airport in Florence, the Florence Peretola. It was previously known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport. However, you will most likely fly into the Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa. This is a much larger airport so long-distance, foreign flights are most likely to land here.

Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months past your intended date of departure. If you’re planning on an extended stay, you can stay in Italy for up to 90 days without the need for a visa, so long as your passport is valid.

Planning Tips

Visiting Florence can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, it’s important to plan and prepare for your trip properly. Here, we have our top 5 tips for those planning a trip to Florence, Italy. Have you visited and have a tip of your own? Leave it in the comments down below!

Tip #1: Don’t be Afraid to Spit

When wine tasting in Italy, it is common for the taster to swish the wine around in their mouth to get the full profile of flavors, and then spit the wine out. This is so that you can taste many more wines without becoming intoxicated. It may feel a bit uncomfortable to spit out your drink in public, but it’s actually the cultural norm for this country.

Tip #2: Eat Light

You’ll find that even entrees featuring meat and pasta are smaller in portion size than what we see here in the US. Most of the time, meals consist of lighter fare including crostini, cured meat, and cheeses. Do not be surprised at the smaller portions of heavy meals and the abundance of lighter snacks.

Tip #3: Explore Florence on Foot

Not only is walking the preferred method of getting around in Florence, but it is also the easiest. While you may be walking with many other tourists, walking allows you to see more of the city. It may even take longer to wait for a taxi or bus than it would to walk to your destination. You will also most likely be walking at many of the attractions. Be sure to bring a pair or two of comfortable walking shoes.

Tip #4: Prioritize Your List

It would take months, if not years, to visit and explore every museum, gallery, eatery, and other important location within the city of Florence. Be sure to prioritize the list of places you’d like to see based on the length of time you’re spending here. Many of the attractions have estimated wait times based on the time of year and time of day you are visiting. This makes it easier to plan out your sightseeing.

Tip #6: Explore The Surrounding Cities

Venice is only a few hours northeast of Florence. This famous beautiful city is a must see! You must see the incomparable St Marks Basilica and take a gondola ride though its canals. There is so much to see and do there it needs to be on your list of places to see. A top destination is Tuscany, be sure to take a day trip into the Tuscany countryside and see the hilltop towns!

Tip #5: Take Those 500 Steps

The Cathedral in Florence, called the Duomo, is the 4th-largest cathedral in the world. It took nearly 2 centuries to complete. Be sure to save at least one day to explore it. If you’d like to reach the highest point in Florence by hiking the 463 steps to the cathedral’s cupola, you’ll need to make a reservation. However, you won’t be disappointed.

Restaurants & Eating Out

It seems even the food vendors at every corner and in front of every attraction have some of the best food available. These vendors also make it very quick to grab a bite to eat while on your way from one destination to another.

If you’re looking for some of the best gelato in Florence, you want to check out Carapina. The flavors of gelato available will change based on the season, and the number of choices is limited on purpose, but if you’ve ever thought of trying gelato with either olive oil or parmesan, this is the place.

The Borgo san Jacopo is one of the most exclusive restaurants in Florence. There are just four tables on a small terrace, but this terrace offers breathtaking views of the Ponte Vecchio. The star chef, Peter Brunel, offers mouthwatering entrées. Save room for the purple potato sorbet with various toppings, including gold leaf, for dessert.

A popular stop for many tourists is La Menagere. La Menagere is home to both a café and cocktail bar, but you’ll also find beautiful bouquets in the flower shop as well as quality Italian homeware in the store. Dinner entrées can include everything from spaghetti with squid to beef with pears.

Nightlife & Entertainment

While it’s common to stop for a cocktail in the evening before turning in, nightlife in Florence is relatively calm. In fact, one of their most popular bars offers cappuccino and pastries in the morning, a light lunch in the afternoon, and a buffet dinner as well as cocktails in the evening. This bar, known as Caffe degli Artigiani, is in the center of the artisan district.

The La Casa del Vino is a popular wine bar near the center of town. If you’re looking to try some of the top wines in the area of Tuscany or even find some less common wines from all over the country, you’ll want to stop by. To go with the extensive wine list, there is a menu of light snacks that includes meats, cheeses, crostini, and salads.

Getting Around

Getting around by car in the city of Florence is nearly impossible. Much of the city is off-limits to drivers. Of those streets that are drivable, many are narrow and might even be one-way. If traveling by car is necessary, you’ll want to take a taxi. However, taxis are quite expensive. The best way to get around Florence is on foot.

In fact, it’s possible to walk from one side of the city to the other in less than an hour. If your feet are getting tired or you have a longer distance to travel, a bus system is available. You can find tickets at local convenience stores.

Accommodations

If the city of Florence had a theme, it would be luxury. From the historical sites to the most modern hotels, from street food vendors to well-known eateries, Florence is the epitome of luxury. If you’d like to experience that firsthand, be sure to research your accommodations. If you’re familiar with the Four Seasons brand, you may know what to expect from the Four Seasons Florence.

However, Florence is home to some very unique accommodations as well. The Palazzo Vecchietti features just 12 bedrooms and suites along with two apartments. Each is named after famous Italian artists.

This 16th-century Palazzo has been turned into a luxury bed-and-breakfast of sorts, with meals being served in a common area on the top floor. A luxury Florence hotel with more of a retro feel is the Continentale. Weather

You may want to avoid July and August when planning a trip to Florence. January is usually the coldest month with temperatures in the low 40s, Fahrenheit. While the average temperature in July is in the mid-70s Fahrenheit, the humidity can make it feel unbearably warm. The best times to travel to Florence are in the spring and fall. Attractions

You’ll find the attractions in Florence mostly based on the history and food of the region. While the Statue of David is arguably one of the most popular sights to see in Florence, getting in to see Michelangelo’s famous artwork can take some time. Lines are usually very long, but it’s worth it.

You may also want to stop at Piazzale Michelangiolo , a terrace overlooking the city. The skyline of Florence seen from this terrace is the same often seen on postcards. Late afternoon or early evening are ideal times to visit as the crowds have died down.

There is no shortage of museums to visit while in Florence. Gucci Museo, or the Gucci Museum, is quite fun and a bit different than most other museums in the area. An archeological museum, the Museo Archeologico, features much of the regional history prior to the Medicis.

The Galleria dell’ Accademia is home to the Statue of David and other popular exhibits such as several Stradivarius violins and famous paintings. Be sure to see the Uffuzi Gallery as well to see the Renaissance period masterpieces.

Enjoying the Wine That Makes Florence Famous

While one of the most popular tourist activities in Florence is wine tasting, be sure not to miss out on the beauty and history of the city itself. Florence may be a small city compared to some, but the experiences had during even a short vacation here will last a lifetime.

If you’re headed to Florence, what are you looking forward to the most? Let us know!

Your local trip leader will be there to provide advice on where to go, what to do, and to make sure you get from village to village (and back to Florence, of course!).

Cinque Terre Day Tour Description

Your full-day tour includes:

Private, air-conditioned, round-trip transportation from Florence

Visit the villages of Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare, with train tickets included

Boat ride along the coast to Riomaggiore

English-speaking trip leader

Group coach tour with plenty of free time

This tour is usually conducted in one language only, English. On some occasions, however, explanations may be given in two languages (English and Spanish) during the bus ride. Once you arrive at the destination, you will have a dedicated English-speaking tour leader.

Travel From Florence

Your day begins with a journey through northern Tuscany on an air-conditioned coach, starting from a convenient location in downtown Florence, close to most hotels and the Santa Maria Novella train station. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as your trip leader shares stories and advice on how to spend your day on the beautiful Italian Riviera.

The UNESCO Villages of Cinque Terre

Only a few decades ago, these five quaint towns on the Ligurian coast were isolated and unknown to most of the world. On this trip you will explore the wonderful natural harbors and streets of brightly painted houses that used to guide the fishermen ashore.

Your first stop is to explore the medieval alleyways of Manarola, the second smallest of the five villages, and famous for a sweet dessert wine called Sciacchetrà. After a quick briefing, you'll be free to stroll around independently until it's time to catch the coastal train to Vernazza.

The colorful port of Vernazza is regarded as one of Italy's most beautiful villages, and is overlooked by a centuries-old castle high on the rocks. Another short train journey will bring you to the wonderful beaches of Monterosso, where you can sunbathe on the sand and take in the breeze of the Mediterranean.

Sail to the Last Stop

Riomaggiore famous for its panoramic views, blue waters and more amazing pastel homes. To arrive in Riomaggiore, you'll sail down the coast by boat, taking in a whole new perspective of the cliffs and towns dotted along the rocky seafront. You'll have time here to enjoy the views from the panoramic terraces of the village, and perhaps refresh yourself with a cold drink or two before heading back to the city.

In the late afternoon, your driver will return with the coach to take you and the rest of your group back to central Florence. If you're hungry from all the sunshine and exploring, your guide will be happy to advise on some great nearby places for your evening meal.

A Day by the Sea

Great experience visiting the five lands by the sea. Especially convenient was the bus and train transfers which were all handled for us.

Excellent Day Tour

The tour itself and Fedrica the guide and Luigi the driver did very well. A big complaint though was the agents meeting us at the designated tour start point were ripping everyone off by charging an extra 20 of 30 euro each for themselves. I told them no way were we paying extra and was told ok then. This was the only bummer experience of the the tour.

Why Take This Tour:

If you are visiting Cinque Terre on a day tour from Florence for the first-time, this semi-private tour is my top-pick for you . The reason is that this small-group tour will have a maximum of 8 people so offers a very intimate and relaxed experience.

You will have the opportunity to take a boat ride between Manarola and Vernazza and get free time to explore both locations on foot. For your day trip, I recommend to explore only 3 villages instead of all 5, so you can really enjoy more time in each one and get to explore the beauty of Cinque Terre without have to hurry!

“Our tour of Cinque Terre exceeded all expectations. Though it is a bit of a trip from Florence (2.5 hours) our guide Yaris made the journey comfortable. Upon arriving at each town, Yaris provided the easiest pick up and drop off points. Cinque Terre is a breathtaking place with beautiful views. Throughout our day we had plenty of free time to explore and get lunch and we even enjoyed complimentary gelato at our last stop. This was a great trip that I highly recommend.” Matt ( read more revi ews now )

This best-of-Cinque Terre tour is one of the most budget-friendly options out there. Just be mindful that when you book the price does seem to go up quite a bit, but it’s still more affordable than the other combination trips in this guide. You’ll also get to visit the stunning Porto Venere, while the majority of combination tours include a visit to Pisa instead.

In my personal opinion, I prefer Porto Venere than Pisa. Porto Venere is one of my most beautiful coastal towns in Italy . It is so unique, and there is so much more to see and explore here. But Pisa is also known for one of the most iconic Italian landmarks , so if you prefer to explore history, I recommend to choose a tour that offers Pisa.

“Luca was amazing!!! So knowledgeable and kind-hearted. He knew all the shortcuts on navigating the train between villages, he treated the whole group like family and took such good care of us. He even gave my husband and I a metro ticket back to our hotel (we didn’t purchase one in time and quickly handed us his as the train was leaving!) What a great guide!” Maria ( read more reviews now )

  • On this tour, you’ll have some free time to explore the villages.
