ALICE IN CHAINS Announces Fall 2023 Headlining Tour Dates

In a recent interview with Terrie Carr of the Morristown, New Jersey radio station 105.5 WDHA , ALICE IN CHAINS singer William DuVall was asked about a possible follow-up to the band's "Rainier Fog" album, which came out in August 2018. He said: "I would suppose [there will be new music coming soon]. There's no plans in the offing right now, because we're all kind of doing other things. But inevitably it seems to kind of circle back. [ Laughs ]"

DuVall also reflected on his 17-year stint as the ALICE IN CHAINS frontman, saying: "In some ways it feels like seven minutes, and in other ways it feels like 37 years. [ Laughs ] It's really interesting — time, your perceptions of time. But, yeah, there are certain memories that feel like three lifetimes ago, and then there are certain things that happened maybe 15 years ago but it feels like yesterday. It's really weird. But it's great. And I'm really proud of everything that we've been able to accomplish in that time."

William 's critically acclaimed debut solo effort, "One Alone" , arrived in October 2019. The 11-track album showed DuVall 's powerful voice with nothing but an acoustic guitar to back it. A follow-up effort, "11.12.21 Live-In-Studio Nashville" , came out in June 2022 via DVL Recordings . The LP captured a power trio performance recorded live direct-to-disc at the famed Welcome To 1979 Studio in Nashville on November 12, 2021.

Prior to joining ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006, DuVall was a member of punk rock bands AWARENESS VOID OF CHAOS , NEON CHRIST , BL'AST! and FINAL OFFERING . DuVall 's long musical history also includes COMES WITH THE FALL and ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell 's solo work.

Cantrell befriended the members of COMES WITH THE FALL in the early 2000s, playing shows with the band on the West Coast, then enlisting the musicians to tour with him as both opening act and backing group in support of his album "Degradation Trip" .

DuVall appears on the last three ALICE IN CHAINS albums: 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue" , 2013's "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" and "Rainier Fog" .

We’re excited to add some special headline dates while we’re out with Guns N' Roses this fall. Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 29, at 10AM local time. aliceinchains.com/tour/ Posted by Alice in Chains on  Monday, June 26, 2023

Guns N’ Roses Confirm Support Acts, Add Dates to 2023 North American Tour

Country superstar Carrie Underwood , Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Pretenders , the legendary Alice in Chains and rock upstarts Dirty Honey and The Warning will all take turns in the opening slot on their forthcoming run. You can see who is playing which date as noted in the North American tour itinerary below.

It should also be noted that Guns N' Roses have added two more shows to the North American run, playing Pittsburgh's PNC Park on Aug. 18 and Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena on Oct. 14. Tickets for the new Pittsburgh date will be available starting with the band’s presale today (May 31) at 10AM local time, with the general on-sale starting Friday, June 2 at 10AM local time; tickets to the new Seattle date will be available starting Friday, June 9 at 10AM local time, all on gunsnroses.com .

Fans can also purchase VIP Packages, which may include premium tickets, VIP bar access throughout the show, invitation to the pre-show Paradise City Lounge, limited edition Guns N’ Roses VIP merchandise & more. For more information, visit vipnation.com .

This will be the first time the group have toured North America since the monumental "We’re F’N Back!" tour in 2021—which also steamrolled stadiums coast-to-coast including their first headliner at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

GUNS N' ROSES TOURING NORTH AMERICA IN 2023 WITH ALICE IN CHAINS & THE PRETENDERS

Guns N' Roses concert tour poster 2023 featuring Alice in Chains, Pretenders, and Carrie Underwood

Classic rockers  Guns N' Roses have announced a North American tour for later this year, and they're bringing along both  Alice in Chains and The Pretenders.

I have to say, when I first heard that these bands were going to be performing on GNR's upcoming tour, I was a bit surprised.  Although less so with Alice in Chains.  I'll explain my line of thinking here.

I'll admit that both Alice in Chains and The Pretenders are now considered classic rock, much in the same way that Guns N' Roses are.  However, if you look back at these bands' heydays, they're all from completely separate and often disputing genres.  Alice in Chains were part of the Big 4 of the alternative rock/Seattle grunge sound, from the early 1990s.  (The others being  Nirvana , Pearl Jam and  Soundgarden ).  While all of these bands were influenced by the hard rock sounds of the 1970s and 1980s, they were also, in their flannel and ripped jeans, seen as the complete antithesis of hair metal, with a more punk inspired garage sound and look.  While many may argue that GNR were certainly superior and even separate from their hair metal contemporaries (i.e.  Motley Crue and  Poison ), they still often get categorized as part of that genre of rock.  However, upon thinking about it, in the early days, Alice in Chains did open for both  Van Halen and  Metallica , so it's not really too far fetched at all to think of them performing on the GNR tour.

The band that really seems like an interesting addition is The Pretenders.  This band was really considered one of the pioneering groups in both the punk and new wave genres of the late 1970s-mid 1980s and whose sound didn't really mix and mingle with the hard rock bands of the time (i.e. RATT, Quiet Riot and Motley Crue).  Sure, they all had hits that crossed over into the Top 40, and The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde is a guitarist with a complete rocker edge whose band had a much more of a rock oriented sound than their new wave contemporaries like Depeche Mode or New Order.  But when you think of some of the greatest bands and albums of the new wave era, The Pretenders are always on that list. In addition, they're still played much more on classic alternative radio than classic rock radio.  But times change, genre separation dissipates and classic rock now encompasses everything from soft rock (like America) to grunge (i.e. Nirvana).

Carrie Underwood is scheduled to perform on the GNR tour as well.  I can't say with certainty that it's a good fit, as I don't really listen to her music.  But I suppose if GNR feel she works well with their audience, who am I to argue.

Here are the list of confirmed dates for Guns N' Roses' 2023 North American tour.

Aug. 5 – Moncton, NB @ Medavie Blue Cross Stadium with Carrie Underwood Aug. 8 – Montreal, QC @ Parc Jean Drapeau with Carrie Underwood Aug. 11 – Hershey, PA @ Hersheypark Stadium with The Pretenders Aug. 15 – East Rutherford, NJ @ MetLife Stadium with The Pretenders Aug. 18 – Pittsburgh, PA @ PNC Park with The Pretenders Aug. 21 – Boston, MA @ Fenway Park with The Pretenders Aug. 24 – Chicago, IL @ Wrigley Field with The Pretenders Aug. 26 – Nashville, TN @ GEODIS Park with Carrie Underwood Aug. 29 – Charlotte, NC @ Spectrum Center with Dirty Honey Sept. 1 – Saratoga Springs, NY @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center with Dirty Honey Sept. 3 – Toronto, ON @ Rogers Centre with The Pretenders Sept. 6 – Lexington, KY @ Rupp Arena with Dirty Honey Sept. 9 – St. Louis, MO @ Busch Stadium with The Pretenders Sept. 12 – Knoxville, TN @ Thompson-Boling Arena with The Warning Sept. 15 – Hollywood, FL @ Hard Rock Live with The Warning Sept. 17 – Atlanta, GA @ Midtown Music Festival Sept. 20 – Biloxi, MS @ Mississippi Coast Coliseum with Dirty Honey Sept. 23 – Kansas City, MO @ Kauffman Stadium with Alice in Chains Sept. 26 – San Antonio, TX @ Alamodome with Alice in Chains Sept. 28 – Houston, TX @ Minute Maid Park with Alice in Chains Oct. 1 – San Diego, CA @ Snapdragon Stadium with Alice in Chains Oct. 6 - Indio, CA @ Power Trip Festival Oct. 8 – Sacramento, CA @ Aftershock Festival Oct. 11 – Phoenix, AZ @ Chase Field with Alice in Chains Oct. 14 – Seattle, WA @ Climate Pledge Arena (support act TBD) Oct. 16 – Vancouver, BC @ BC Place with Alice in Chains

Guns N’ Roses is a lot of things: the ultimate Hollywood success story, the “most dangerous band in the world,” and one of the best-selling rock acts of all time. Formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California, this hard-rock band’s history is the stuff of legend.

It started with Izzy Stradlin of Hollywood Rose and Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns, who lived together. L.A. Guns needed a new singer, and Stradlin suggested Axl Rose for the job — thereby marking the formation of Guns N’ Roses. The crew also included Rob Gardner on drums and Ole Beich on bass, though Beich was quickly replaced by Duff McKagan, Gardner by Steven Adler, and Guns by guitarist Slash.

The group started rehearsing and recording in anticipation of its first-ever show on March 26, 1985, at the famed Troubadour club in West Hollywood, California. Axl Rose’s aggressive and erratic behavior was both a strength and a liability for the band: it electrified crowds, but also led to fights with bandmates, managers, and public figures.

Yet the band’s presence was undeniable. It became a big deal in Hollywood’s club scene, playing spots like The Roxy and eventually signing on with Geffen Records in March 1986 with a $75,000 advance. It released an EP called Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide as it retreated to the studio to record its debut album. Mike Clink was selected to produce the album, which included tracks like “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Nightrain.”

The band’s debut album Appetite for Destruction was released in 1987. Though it took a full year, it reached the number-one spot on the US Billboard 200 chart thanks to the singles “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” “Paradise City,” and “Welcome to the Jungle.” Since then the album has gone on to sell 30 million copies around the world, over half of which were in the United States, which makes Appetite for Destruction the US’ best-selling debut album.

Already known for relentless touring, Guns N’ Roses stepped it up with a 16-month worldwide tour opening for Mötley Crüe, Blue Öyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, and Alice Cooper. Though various members had to miss runs of shows due to broken bones from fistfights, a wedding, and rehab, the tour was successful. By the end of it, Guns N’ Roses was bigger than the headlining acts.

In 1988, it released its second album, G N’ R Lies, which peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart and included the hit “Patience.” This album’s success was mirrored by the band’s subsequent rise in notoriety: It was blasted for offensive lyrics, Axl Rose got into violent fights with security guards backstage, and two fans were crushed to death under a slam-dancing crowd in England. It was then called “the most dangerous band in the world.”

The band’s next release was preceded by the longest tour in rock history, the Use Your Illusion tour, which included nearly 200 dates in 27 countries. The pair of albums, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, came out on September 17, 1991, and debuted at the first and second spots on the US Billboard charts. Its video for “November Rain,” a popular ballad nearly nine minutes long, was one of the most expensive music videos ever made.

The next years were full of turmoil and grandiose rock and roll moments. The band released The Spaghetti Incident? and changed its lineup multiple times. By 1998, Rose and Reid were the only original members still in the band.

Guns N’ Roses’ sixth studio album, Chinese Democracy, came out in 2008 after a decade of work. It is the most expensive rock album in history and debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at number three. After the expansive tour in promotion of the album, both McKagan and Slash returned to the band in 2016 for the Not in This Lifetime… tour, the third-highest-grossing concert tour in history.

Since then, Guns N’ Roses continues to sell out the world’s biggest venues, making history as it tours across the continents. You can catch it on its own or headlining major festivals around the world, and its recent remastered releases of Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion showcase the hard rock roots that always will drive the band forward.

Live reviews

Axl Rose is the last of his kind; the Mike Tyson of Rock N’ Roll frontmen; an awe-inspiring combination of God-given talent with a killer edge of untamed ferocity and determination borne of a troubled childhood, leaving the young man with an appetite for destruction.

In September 2010, I flew to Paris to attend my first GNR gig. Standing at the front, the stage loomed over me. The house lights went down, the opening chords to the title track of the infamous “Chinese Democracy” played, pyrotechnics fired off… and then I saw him standing over me. After three hours of bearing witness to Axl Rose exorcising demons, I thought I had seen the greatest concert of my life. But just 24 hours later, fortune smiled upon me, and I miraculously gained entry to a semi-acoustic private show for less than 300 people. The voice which had brought an arena to its (sha-na-na-na-na-)knees the night before was overwhelming in the small garden of a club by the Arc de Triomphe.

Since then, I have seen GNR a total of 13 times, across 8 countries and 4 continents. Each and every show has had something special: the surprise appearance of bassist Duff McKagan after 17 years at a gig in London in 2010; guest appearances from GNR co-founder Izzy Stradlin at the same venue two years later; seeing Axl rock a more intimate venue at the House of Blues in Atlantic City; meeting Axl after a show in Glasgow; and fearing death while having the time of my life in a frenzied Argentinian mosh pit.

While there is a top-hat shaped hole in the current GNR line-up, over the years Axl has surrounded himself with gifted guitarists such as Richard Fortus and Bumblefoot, who trade off bluesy riffs and technical virtuosity that complement Axl’s trademark raspy growls and banshee screams.

In this post-Cobain world of irony and self-deprecation, Guns N’ Roses is your last chance to see an unabashedly bombastic and grandiose hard rock concert with a frontman whose ego is only outdone by his talent and passion.

We saw Alice In Chains on June 29th at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Guns and Roses started their show at 9:23 pm, sooner than we expected. They played for 2 1/2 hours and ended right at midnight. Their stage was great with bright lights, big screens and pyro. They started out good and strong, and bringing back Slash and Duff made them sound flawless. There was not any idle chatter from Axel Rose in between sets, like some artists do. He might say a couple of sentences trying to get the crowd pumped up. Otherwise they were playing with not more than maybe 15-20 seconds between songs if that. They kept it rolling pretty good. They played old stuff as well as "Chinese Democracy" and "Better".

There were only a couple of things they could work on. First, I thought Axel's voice was starting to give out half way through the concert, but actually it was the sound mixer that didn't properly adjust the microphones. I noticed later that it wasn't just Axel's voice, all of their voices sounded muffled unless they were right up in the mic.

Next, there are some songs they should take out and other songs used. They did not play "Patience", but me and a buddy discussed it and agreed it good they left it out. It really just would have not fit in with the rest of the show and messed up the flow of the music. However they played "Double Talkin Jive", "Estranged" and "Coma". In our opinion these should be taken out. Our thoughts are that these songs while musically strong, the lyrics are sung low and were muffled or drowned out by the music. You could not make out half of the lyrics on those songs. Our picks would have been for them to play "Bad Apples", Dead Horse" and maybe something like "I Used to Love Her".

All in all a great show and would see them again. The sounded better than I thought they would since they had not all been together for over 20 years, but they were Awesome. One the best shows I have ever seen.

I had huge expectations for this show (Lisbon, June 2nd). I'm 26 yo and I've been a fan of GNR ever since I had my first Walkman CD player. For decades I really wanted to see them but the lineup with Axl and some other guys didn't appeal to me. So 3 hours before the show I was already on the venue place with my Golden Circle ticket. A couple of beers, a quick meal and a last trip to the toilet and just before the first opening act I went with my brother (3 years younger, but no less fan of the Guns N' Roses) to get a good spot near the stage. The first band was awesome. Mark Lanegan not so much (he seemed angry with something and seemed to do the show because he had to). And then, "international pop recording muggles" were introduced and show started. From that point to the end it was good beyond belief! Everything from the stage, the production, the setlist, the band and each individual musician was just awesome. The crowd was good too, interacting a lot and showing them we wanted to have fun! I can't even believe I went to a GNR show. I seems to me I have completed one of those tasks I wanted to do before I die! I've been to many rock concerts and this one was by far the best (I had even seen AC/DC with and without Axl). Axl's voice was as powerful as ever. Slash ... I don't need to comment, do I? He does what he does and it's always the coolest thing ever. Duff was awesome. He sang New Rose and played his bass briliantly, rocking a Lemmy t-shirt and a bass with Prince's logo. The other guys were awesome too! Richard Fortus played a lot of solos and showed he was having a blast the whole show. The drummer was always there. Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese were awesome too. The show was the full package. I'm really glad I went!

Guns N Roses at Tottenham Stadium July 1st - great support and amazing headliners ruined by delays and far worse for this paying customer - appalling sound in the venue. By chance our entry gate (23) was a frictionless breeze and we were in the stadium in minutes. Friends entering using other gates (18) were not so lucky and queued for long periods missing all the support. The stadium is amongst the best I have ever seen, the facilities were varied and very efficient and all the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. That's the sum of the good points...

Gary Clark Jr's set was so quiet and generally muffled it was drowned out by normal volume conversations around our standing area, stage right by the VIP standing area. The issue was so bad when Guns took the stage I considered leaving, luckily the crowd was able to communicate their frustration to the band and not once but twice repeatedly chanted 'turn it up!'. Axl Rose acknowledged the issue both times, can't help thinking someone is going to feel that later... The problem was improved, though not solved by turning up Slash's guitar but Axl's vocals remained virtually lost in the background. Such as shame as the band really smashed it but we were deprived of the full experience. The stadium delays came back to haunt us - that was the shortest set Guns have played in recent history, significant tracks omitted from the setlist. Paying over £100 for a ticket for this kind of amateurism is galling for fans and embarrassing for the band. Whatever the stadium is taking from ticket sales should be refunded back to fans.

I was very, very unhappy. I have been to hundreds of rock concerts in many different venues and always get GA tickets. GA tickets often have seat numbers but rarely do they actually have seats. They only put seat numbers on the tickets to keep track of how many people have tickets on the GA floor. I am very short and so need to be in the front row and so I got in line at 2pm to ensure my ability to see the show. I stood in line (with a group of other avid rock fans) for 4.5 hours waiting for the doors to open and when we got in, there were actual assigned seats on the GA floor!! I was in row J behind hundreds of other people and couldn't even see the TV screens. I truly believe that venues should be required to put a disclaimer on events that will actually have assigned seating on the GA floor!! I wouldn't have purchased tickets if I had known there would be and venues know that. They know it will affect ticket sales for us to be told and so they do not disclose the intent to add chairs to GA. I was so disappointed! I ended up leaving early and being quite upset due to the way that was handled. Plus, those employees let me stand in line for almost 5 hours knowing full well that there was no need. The only reason to get in line so early is to ensure a front row spot for the show. They knew we had assigned seats in GA and said nothing!! How unbelievably rude of them.

Tickets will NOT SELL OUT. Last show here started at midnight, the one before at 2:46am Last show was a AAA arena in downtown. It was not full. Tickets outside were 10 dollars. The August 8 venue is a huge stadium.. With what the locals know from the past they are staying away or going to get the tons of free tickets from the radio stations that are handing them out by the boatloads or just show up and get a ticket outside for next to nothing. A SHOW IS NEVER SOLD OUT! I will tell that this time the band will go on stage on time because Axel had to put up most of the money because promoters all backed away from this tour. After this tour the public will know the band is serious because people in each and every town will hear from others or see it themselves that now they are going on stage on time and putting on a 3 plus hour show that will blow their minds. Expect by the next tours for Guns N' Roses to be the biggest grossing Rock band in this decade. In the end there will only be Metallica and Guns N' Roses because of their age, their talent, and their stamina. Regardless of what you pay you will get more than your money's worth at these shows now that Slash is back and only a handfull of bands play 3 hours.

It was great o see the Guns N' Roses live the atmosphere was cool and the venue convenient but...

When they played the first song the sound was horrible, I was not able to recognize the song, the melody nor understand the lyrics, with time it became better but still. Sometimes Axl voice was too low, sometimes his voice was disappearing to come as a high pitch - it sounded as they would play from a record and then somebody in the background try to sing but couldn't hear the melody

Observing the crowd I would say people were little bit confused, it was not crazy atmosphere as I was expecting.

I was also surprised that the "Golden circle" was filled to the borders of capacity... I would say I expect a little bit more from a premium ticket.

The real cherry on the cake was the final - people went really crazy - as they played the most known hits, the fireworks, the visualizations and confetti was really nice finishing touch.

Overall I was happy I dient pay the full price for the ticket (it was super expensive) but you need to give them the credit it was their first concert so ... 6 out of 10 for me.

That's a great performance with stage, sound, lightening, video graphic, and finally they're back the 3 original member Axl, Duff, and Slash since almost 24 years ago I saw them be together again. the concert which lasted almost 3 hours did not make them lose their enthusiasm to entertain us, even though they were already half a century more. some of the best songs like It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstones, Welcome To The Jungle, Civil War, You Could Be Mine, Sweet Child O' Mine, Patience, Knocking On Heaven's door Making Rock the whole of GBK stadium. They closed the show titled "Not In This Lifetime" with encore song "Paradise City". At the end of song Axl say "Thank You Jakarta, Indonesia, See You again" and then he threw the microphone towards the audience, and not long afterwards all the band members gathered and bowed down as a thank you. some of the band members such as slash and duff distributed guitar picks to the audience as a memento. previously the band had performed in Jakarta in 2012 but without slash and duff, so did slash who had also performed solo in Jakarta with his band then in 2010.

The performance by GNR was great and I had a good, but not great time. The venue had so many problems from start to finish. Though some of it had to do with impolite fans, much could have been prevented by a more efficient a capable staff. On arrival, I approached a supervisor about needing a wheel chair as I had called a few days before and was told they are present at all the entrances. It took 35 minutes to get a wheel chair. The young man who pushed the wheel chair was very good. I got to my seat that I had bought because it was supposed to have a clear view of the stage looking down a six foot wide aisle. It took the staff about 1/3 of the concert to get the aisle relatively clear, but the the staff stood in the middle of the aisle blocking the view. When the concert concluded about 11:30PM, the same young man took me all the way to the Uber lot. That's where the biggest problem began. The Miami police didn't have a clue at directing traffic. It took me until 1:15AM to get an Uber and I got home at almost 2:AM. I doubt if I will ever go to another concert at Marlin's Park.

Absolutely fuckin' awesome!! By the time we got there Wolfmother was just starting, they were wicked! Then before long out comes the Gunners. Everyone was cheering and screaming, it was great to see everyone so united. They were so full of energy the whole time, lightning fast costume changes, amazing songs, great atmosphere, oh man it was amazing. Such a dream come true. Slash was outstanding as usual, the man is crazy talented! The rest of the lads were perfect and Axl hit all the right notes. Couldn't have been a more perfect night. The shirts were so cool, made it almost impossible to pick one and the program had the most amazing pictuers in it!

God, there's only one thing I would change... I'd make Slash say something haha, I just would have like to hear his cool voice say "Hi Adelaide!" Or something like that. But not a big deal that he didn't say anything, his guitar playing says more than words ever could.

I LOVED it!! Thanks to the lads from Gunners and everyone behind the scenes for such a good night. Flawless, absolutely fuckin' flawless!

Guns N’ Roses endure as the most dynamic, dangerous, and definitive American rock band in history to this day. Embedded in popular culture, their landmark diamond-selling 1987 opus, Appetite For Destruction , stands out as “the best-selling U.S. debut album ever” and “the 11 th best-selling U.S. album of all time, ” while their Not In This Lifetime… Tour (2016-2019) ranked as the “fourth-highest grossing concert tour of all time . ” During 1991, Guns N’ Roses shook the world with the one-two punch of the 7x-platinum Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II , clinching the top two spots of the Billboard 200 upon arrival. With total sales of 100 million units thus far, their catalog also consists of G N’ R Lies (5x-platinum), The Spaghetti Incident? (platinum), Greatest Hits (5x-platinum), and Chinese Democracy (platinum). Not to mention, they are one of the most-streamed rock bands in the world with an average of 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Following the reunion of the century, they headlined Coachella and sold 5 million-plus tickets on the Not In This Lifetime… Tour . However, Guns N’ Roses never stop with more touring on the horizon in 2023 and other surprises—the “Nightrain” keeps rolling at full speed.

Guns N’ Roses are Axl Rose (vocals, piano), Duff McKagan (bass), Slash (lead guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboard), Richard Fortus (rhythm guitar), Frank Ferrer (drums), and Melissa Reese (keyboard).

Though the reunited band has not announced plans for any new music to follow-up 2008’s long-gestating Chinese Democracy , the Axl Rose-led group has been hitting the road hard over the past few years, including their three-year (2016-2019) Not in This Lifetime Tour and 2021’s We’re F’N Back! tour. But in an exciting tease, the release announcing the upcoming dates promises that they will be “unveiling more news and surprises soon.”

In November, GNR released a commemorative box set celebrating their 1991 two-album set Use Your Illusion with dozens of previously unreleased tracks and videos.
