The family sitcom, which has been renewed for its second season, follows George and Mayan in a fictionalized version of their real-life father-daughter relationship, exploring dysfunction, reconnection, and all the pain and joy in between.

Lopez can be seen in Snoop Dogg’s Amazon MGM sports comedy, The Underdoggs , and in the independent holiday comedy How the Gringo Stole Christmas , directed by Angel Gracia. Lopez joined the DC Extended Universe last summer, starring in the Warner Bros. Latin superhero film, Blue Beetle . Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and featuring a predominantly Latino cast, the film follows its first ever Mexican American teenager turned superhero.

George Lopez blames early exit from comedy show on 'unruly' crowd, but venue disputes his claim

The comedian abruptly left his recent headlining set 30 minutes before planned. Now he and Eagle Mountain Casino are disputing what happened.

Christian Holub is a writer covering comics and other geeky pop culture. He's still mad about 'Firefly' getting canceled.

george lopez tour schedule

George Lopez left a headlining comedy set 30 minutes early on Friday, but the reasons why are in dispute.

"Tonight George Lopez let down his fans and sold out audience by walking out and ending his show 30 minutes early," the Facebook page for California's Eagle Mountain Casino posted on Friday . They also offered refunds to anyone in attendance.

Lopez's team is claiming that the exit was due to an "unruly" crowd that made the comedian feel "unsafe."

“It’s the venue or casino’s job to provide a good experience for both the artist and the fans, but the casino failed in this regard,” a spokesperson for Lopez said in a statement to the New York Post . “The audience was overserved and unruly, and the casino staff was unable to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the artist and guests."

Lopez's representative continued, “George is not obligated to perform in an unsafe environment. He feels badly that those who came to see the show were unable to do so as a result.”

Representatives for Lopez did not immediately respond to EW's request for further comment.

Something's not adding up, though, because Eagle Mountain Casino disputes this account of events. In a statement posted to its website after the comedian's response, casino representatives said that "claims of unruly guests are not consistent with casino footage and surveillance." Instead, they say evidence suggests any outbursts were affectionate rather than derogatory. And in any case, the venue claims that Lopez and his team did not alert them of any disruptions before the sudden departure.

“While we did see guests yelling out, we see recordings showing those saying 'we love you,' 'can we buy you a drink,' etc. We also know that at a comedy show, there are also likely some outbursts that casino security would have been happy to address had any issue been made known," the casino's assistant manager Tiffani Sahagun said in a statement.

Lopez was originally scheduled to perform at the casino on April 20, but canceled at the last minute, according to the casino. Since he cited a medical emergency and provided a makeup date of June 7, "the casino supported the entertainer and wished him well," according to their statement. But they don't think he returned the good faith.

"Mr. Lopez or his private security had every opportunity to inform casino team if they wanted a guest escorted out and they did not," the venue's statement reads. "The two prior openers, also comedians, did not have any concerns or issues, so this was quite a shock to everyone attending."

One year removed from Draft Combine, this prospect is dominating on the mound

Klassen, philly's sixth-round pick in 2023, has an 0.96 era and 13.4 k/9.

When George Klassen walked into Chase Field for his first day of the 2023 MLB Draft Combine last June, he soothed his nerves by telling himself that he was chosen to be there for a reason. He went on to showcase the talents that earned him a coveted spot at the Combine and put himself on the radar by ramping his fastball up as high as 97.5 mph.

“It doesn’t really feel like a year ago, it feels like I just got started with all of that,” Klassen said. “It’s been a blast from Day 1.”

Almost a year to the day of the '23 Combine, the motto Klassen repeated to himself still rings true: Trust himself.

The growth in confidence has allowed for the talent of the Phillies' No. 28 prospect to flow, manifesting in five no-hit innings Saturday night in his second start with High-A Jersey Shore during an 8-0 win at Brooklyn's Maimonides Park .

“You show what you got and that’s all you can really do,” Klassen said. “[You] just keep on moving forward and just trust in everything you got.”

The 22-year-old was selected as the Phillies’ sixth-round pick in the 2023 Draft. Once he reported to Florida at the team's training complex, he got straight to work attending meetings and camps, though the organization opted to let his arm rest after he threw 56 2/3 innings for the University of Minnesota.

The West Bend, Wis., native’s trajectory has not been without its bumps in the road. After not pitching in 2021 following Tommy John surgery, he was limited to 7 2/3 frames in '22 and pitched to a 5.72 ERA in his final collegiate season. But upon finally entering game action this year, he was named the Phillies’ Minor League Pitcher of the Month in April. Shortly thereafter, the righty sustained a right shoulder issue that forced him to exit early from his May 3 outing with Single-A Clearwater.

The injury was only a minor setback, and on June 11, the Golden Gophers product was promoted to High-A Jersey Shore. Across the two levels, Klassen has an 0.96 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched. Batters have hit just .143 against him with only one ball leaving the yard.

To get the impressive numbers, the Phillies prospect has taken advantage of every tool he has been given from trainers, coaches and nutritionists in order to hone his craft.

“Just getting in there and putting on some weight, getting stronger to be able to support the heavy workload that comes with the season,” Klassen said of what's been key to his early success. “Just feeling confident on the mound, minimizing things and trusting that you’re going to go out there to compete and do the best you can because you’ve got guys behind you ready to compete with you.”

Coming up on a calendar year as a professional under his belt, Klassen is focused on keeping things simple and sticking with his plan, which will help him pitch more freely and with more confidence. Of the entire experience -- from Combine to Draft day to moving across three levels -- there is one piece of advice he would give to prospects of future Draft classes:

“Stay true to yourself. You don’t want to be like someone else or try to mimic something. Just stay true to yourself because you already got to that point, so someone already sees something [in you].”

George Lopez and a central California casino have engaged in a war of words over a sold-out Friday show that resulted in a walkout by the comedian.

While the 63-year-old contends that the audience at the Eagle Mountain Casino was the problem, the venue has fired back at t he Grammy-nominated comic and his security team, denying his claims and arguing that he “let down his fans” and the casino too. The Porterville establishment, which said it had been jilted by the comic last month after a medical emergency, has apologized to its patrons and again had to offer its 1,800 Lopez show attendees refunds and free tickets.

The “Lopez vs. Lopez” star , who was already performing a rescheduled show at Eagle Mountain after a last-minute cancellation April 20, was reportedly heckled and departed his Friday set 30 minutes early. The comedian, through a spokesperson, said that the crowd was “overserved and unruly” and blamed the casino for not keeping its patrons in check.

“It’s the venue or casino’s job to provide a good experience for both the artist and the fans, but the casino failed in this regard. The audience was overserved and unruly, and the casino staff was unable to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the artist and guests,” a spokesperson for Lopez said Saturday in a statement to TMZ . (Lopez’s representative did not immediately respond Monday to The Times’ requests for comment.)

“George’s personal security team worked with the venue security staff to maintain order, ensure safety, and eject disruptive individuals. Unfortunately, the casino security team was not adequate to accomplish this task,” the spokesperson continued. “George is not obligated to perform in an unsafe environment. He feels badly that those who came to see the show were unable to do so as a result.”

However, the casino had a wholly different take on the events. The casino has had no contact with Lopez or his team since the walkout, a spokesperson said in a Monday statement to The Times, and believed that “the show was going well” and that there were no issues that the casino deemed “unruly or unsafe.”

“We would have gladly ejected guests upon Mr. Lopez and his private security team’s request. We would have liked that opportunity especially since these paid guests showed up after the rescheduled show in April,” Eagle Mountain Casino spokesperson Joey Perez said.

In a Facebook post addressing the incident on Friday, the casino said that Lopez “let down his fans and sold out audience by walking out and ending his show 30 minutes early.”

“George hired his own private security that could have easily escorted any hecklers out,” the post said. “We had a pre show meeting to have a plan in place for hecklers. He could have provided us an opportunity to allow our security and team to escort any hecklers out since his own private security did not. George decided to not continue with the show and leave.”

The casino — owned and operated by the Tule River Tribe — noted that it has been “patient” with Lopez after his medical emergency resulted in rescheduling his April 20 show, noting Friday that the casino “went above and beyond to provide George with first class service from his arrival to the property to the start of his show.”

“We never want to let our guests down and we are as disappointed and shocked as you are,” said the post, which was met with several comments from patrons who aired their grievances in the post’s comments section .

“Thank you Eagle mountain casino for addressing this and not just chalking it up as ‘this is what he does’! Very thankful for your statement! I really think Mr Lopez needs to issue one also but I won’t hold my breath! He ruined a birthday present for my husband!!!!!!,” one person wrote .

“This is the 2nd time I’ve rearranged my schedule to see him and was completely let down,” another said . “Grew up watching him and was looking forward to the opportunity to see him live. Shame on the ‘probably’ drunk heckler but between his own security and emc security they should have had her escorted out. Walked out on a show that he was paid in full for. Smh. Definitely the last time I paid to see him. As for EMC ty for posting on behalf of those of us that were completely let down.”

“It was not like he had 100 people heckling him,” a third person wrote . “Maybe like 4. All it was was people yelling we love you and making references to old jokes. Nothing bad in my opinion happen tonight for George Lopez to walk out!!”

“‘Can I buy you a drink’ is all she said to you,” another user tweeted in reply to a post from Lopez on X (formerly Twitter).

In an official statement on Sunday, the casino formally apologized to its guests and said that it “can’t wait to make it up to you,” offering attendees full reimbursement and free tickets to any 2024 show at the venue. Eagle Mountain said that Lopez’s statement and exit “came as a shock to everyone,” including casino management.

“The claims of unruly guests are not consistent with casino footage and surveillance. Casino security and Lopez security team worked together to make sure there was no filming with phones as requested by Lopez. It was the job of Lopez private security team to inform casino security if they wanted to escort anyone out which never occurred. Under the casinos discretion no guests were unruly or providing an unsafe environment,” the statement said.

The casino said that once Lopez walked to his dressing room, neither he nor his team apologized to the casino team or guests nor explained why he didn’t want to continue. He left 15 minutes later and was transported back to Porterville airport by Eagle Mountain Casino transportation, the statement said.

Eagle Mountain assistant general manager Tiffani Sahagun confirmed in the statement that guests were indeed “yelling out” during the show and cited recordings from the event showing audience members shouting “we love you, can we buy you a drink etc.”

“We also know that at a comedy show, there are also likely some outbursts that casino security would have been happy to address had any issue been made known,” Sahagun added. “We only want for our guests to have a safe and enjoyable experience, and we want our entertainers to feel safe and enjoy coming to Porterville as well.”

The casino said Lopez and his private security “had every opportunity to inform casino team if they wanted a guest escorted out and they did not.” It added that two comedians who opened for Lopez that night “did not have any concerns or issues, so this was quite a shock to everyone attending.”

Lopez show attendees were also directed to fill out an online form to get a refund and select a different 2024 show to attend.

George Lopez In War Of Words After Early Departure From Casino Gig; Casino Issues Apology & Free Tickets – Update

UPDATED, 7:50 AM: The Eagle Mountain Casino has issued an apology and is offering free tickets after George Lopez left his gig early Friday due to hecklers.

In a statement the casino in Porterville, CA said it “apologizes for the recent experience during the George Lopez show and is offering all attendees a full reimbursement and free tickets to any 2024 show at Eagle Mountain (tickets of same or lesser value).”

Also in the statement, the casino says “Lopez's statement providing reason for exiting the show abruptly after not saying anything to casino management or security, came as a shock to everyone including casino management.”

"It's the venue or casino's job to provide a good experience for both the artist and the fans, but the casino failed in this regard,” spokesperson for Lopez earlier told TMZ. “The audience was overserved and unruly, and the casino staff was unable to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the artist and guests.”

The casino denies that guests were unruly. “The claims of unruly guests are not consistent with casino footage and surveillance,’ the casino’s statement said. “Casino security and Lopez security team worked together to make sure there was no filming with phones as requested by Lopez. It was the job of Lopez private security team to inform casino security if they wanted to escort anyone out which never occurred. Under the casinos discretion no guests were unruly or providing an unsafe environment.

The statement continued: “Once Lopez walked to his dressing room, he nor his team offered an apology to the casino team or guests nor any explanation as to why Mr. Lopez did not want to continue and left 15 minutes later and was transported back to Porterville airport by Eagle Mountain Casino transportation.”

Casino management says his walkout came as a shock considering the two comedians who opened before him did not express any concerns or issues.

"While we did see guests yelling out, we see recordings showing those saying – we love you, can we buy you a drink, etc. We also know that at a comedy show, there are also likely some outbursts that casino security would have been happy to address had any issue been made known. We only want for our guests to have a safe and enjoyable experience, and we want our entertainers to feel safe and enjoy coming to Porterville as well,” said. Assistant General Manager Tiffani Sahagun.

“Mr. Lopez or his private security had every opportunity to inform casino team if they wanted a guest escorted out and they did not,” the statement said.

The casino noted that Lopez had prevously canceled an appearance in April due to a health, and that they supported the comedian and wished him well, rescheduling the show to June 7 and “accommodating guests any way they could.”

"Now, for a second time, the comedian is causing the casino to once again accommodate guests by reimbursing show tickets and going above and beyond to ensure guests know the casino values their business and only wants to provide a positive experience while visiting," the casino statement said.

PREVIOUS, June 9: George Lopez cut his sold-out show short at a California casino on Friday, and now is trading accusations with the venue over hecklers.

The New York Post reports t he 63-year-old comedian left his gig at the Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville, California about 30 minutes early.

Lopez’s team has since fired back at the casino.

"It's the venue or casino's job to provide a good experience for both the artist and the fans, but the casino failed in this regard. The audience was overserved and unruly, and the casino staff was unable to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the artist and guests," a  spokesperson for Lopez told TMZ .

"George's personal security team worked with the venue security staff to maintain order, ensure safety, and eject disruptive individuals. Unfortunately, the casino security team was not adequate to accomplish this task. George is not obligated to perform in an unsafe environment. He feels badly that those who came to see the show were unable to do so as a result."

The casino had a different take.

"Tonight George Lopez let down his fans and sold out audience by walking out and ending his show 30 minutes early," the casino said in a Facebook post.

The venue claimed Lopez’s private security team could've "easily escorted any hecklers out."

Boxing schedule for 2024: Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson returns; Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal on tap

Things are about to heat up in a big way for the sport as we head toward summer.

teofimo-lopez-belt.jpg

The biggest fight of 2024 is now in the rear-view after Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become undisputed heavyweight champion on May 18 in Saudi Arabia. The fight was another in the long list of massive showdowns that boxing has produced over the past few years.

A rematch between Usyk and Fury is now on the books, with the clash set for Dec. 21. The fight will again be held in Saudi Arabia, which has become the new home of the biggest fights in the sport.

Another big name got a big victory to kick off the summer stretch with Gervonta "Tank" Davis stopping Frank Martin in the eighth round of their June 15 bout. With the win, Davis retained the WBA lightweight title and kept himself in the driver's seat for big fights down the road.

In a strange pairing that will intrigue a different audience, former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will meet in the boxing ring on July 6, a spiritual successor to their ceremonial BMF championship fight at UFC 244 in 2019.

Also set for the summer was one of the strangest, yet most intriguing fights on the boxing calendar, former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was set return to the boxing ring at age 58 against social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul, 27, on Netflix on July 20. Unfortunately, a medical issue for Tyson has forced the fight to be postponed to Nov. 15.

In a surprising twist, Paul decided to remain on the July 20 date and will face former UFC fighter and current bare-knuckle star Mike Perry in a dangerous bout for both men.

Note: This will be updated constantly with changes and additions.

Critic’s notebook: the j. lo bubble burst — how (un)likability ruined her tour.

Selling out an arena tour — the same venues Lopez has performed at for two decades — isn’t normally a problem for the star, but her headline-making decision to cancel her upcoming trek has barely anything to do with music. Instead, it’s about likability.

Jennifer Lopez

Five years ago, Jennifer Lopez was on a white-hot tour , selling out arenas like Madison Square Garden and performing her popular hits from the late ‘90s and early 2000s.

So selling out an arena tour — the same venues Lopez has performed at for two decades — isn’t normally a problem for the star. And Live Nation wouldn’t have booked a tour if it didn’t think she could sell the tickets. But Lopez’s headline-making decision to cancel her upcoming trek due to family issues amid reports of poor ticket sales likely has nothing to do with her music or hit-making ability.

For years, artists with strong catalogs have successfully performed on the road. At times the tours are tied to a new album — one most don’t care to hear during live shows — but sometimes there isn’t new music. We all know how well nostalgia sells, and Lopez is one of hundreds of acts who have benefited from this. It’s been 13 years since her last major hit: “On the Floor” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2011. Before that, it was 2005’s “Get Right” and 2006’s “Control Myself.” New hits are not a factor. While they would be helpful, they are not a necessity to sell a tour.

Instead, it’s about likability. And social media likes, or lack thereof.

And here’s likely when shit hit Lopez’s fan: She named the tour after her much-scrutinized, trippy Amazon Prime musical film  This Is Me … Now: A Love Story  and album  This Is Me … Now .   They were accompanied by a documentary titled  The Greatest Love Story Never Told , which gave an inside look at the making of the film. That really lit up social media, and not in a good way.

Because of the way audiences consume media today, it’s fair to assume that many of those who have heavily bashed Lopez didn’t even watch either of those films. They just read the headlines — in this case, watched 20 second clips on social media. I watched both films, and yes, they were corny and at times cringe-worthy, but they weren’t  that bad  (and actually received some decent reviews). Unfortunately, that doesn’t matter, and the constant TikToks blasting her won over the internet, revealing Lopez’s unlikability factor. At this point, it’s like she can do no right. She is giving the ick.

And it’s not that Lopez was always the most liked celebrity — for years people have said the “I’m Real” singer isn’t that real and questioned her street cred, though she sings about being “Jenny From the Block” in the Bronx. And others have called her out for keeping vocals from Ashanti and Christina Milian on the hits they wrote for her without acknowledging them. But this year, the aversion to Lopez seemed to reach new levels.

The tour cancellation also revealed something else: fickle fans. When you don’t have millions of die-hard devotees like Beyoncé or Taylor Swift — or when you’re not the “It” artist of the moment like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo — you’re trying to appeal to potential ticket buyers who could be easily swayed to go to your show, or pass.

It’s like going to Las Vegas and deciding to see a certain artist’s show. It gave you something to do for a night. But if you missed it, the trip still went on. That’s J.Lo and her axed tour in a nutshell.

Love don’t cost a thing, but loyalty is priceless.

Taylor Swift may be famous for evolving her personal style to suit each of her musical eras , but Roberto Cavalli’s been a constant in her sartorial storytelling since the start.

So it’s no surprise that when it came time to create the costumes for her blockbuster Eras Tour , Swift turned to the brand’s creative director, Fausto Puglisi, to put a fresh spin on some of her most iconic looks — like the gold fringed Cavalli minidress from her 2011 “Speak Now” tour, which inspired the similarly swingy style she wears for the “Fearless” section of the show.

“When Joseph [Cassell Falconer, Swift’s stylist] and Taylor started talking about the fringe [look], we went back to the archives. It was a very 2000s moment, but I proposed something a little lighter,” Puglisi tells Page Six Style, adding that there’s far more to this metallic mini than meets the eye.

Taylor Swift "Speak Now" tour

“Every single fringe is made of very, very small beads connected to each other. It’s a work of couture and a work of craftsmanship. Taylor deserves the best!”

In order to “understand the best place to fix every single fringe,” the Sicilian designer worked off a mannequin with Swift’s exact measurements, arranging the strands in a playful zigzag pattern for maximum movement.

“It’s extremely fresh, extremely cool, extremely young and modern, but at the same time, a work of art that’s so intricate and so precise,” he says of the final look, which incorporates three different shades of gold for extra dimension. “It’s a lot of work, but she deserves this and more.”

While the “Fearless” dress (and its several variations) has been a constant since the tour’s April 2023 kickoff, Puglisi’s also peppered in new looks to keep fans on their toes; most recently, by replacing the fringed, geometric-patterned tops and skirts Swift wore for the “1989” portion of her North American shows with a series of colorful, crystal-embellished ombré sets for the tour’s European leg.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour

“I said, ‘Let’s go back to her roots.’ It’s about youth,” Puglisi says of the flirty, flared skater skirts and strappy bustiers. “The inspiration was Taylor herself.”

And while the designer whipped up the same top-and-skirt combo in “20-something” colors — “and there’s more coming,” he teases — it was Swift’s idea to mix and match them “like she mixes [musical] notes.”

“I designed [them] thinking about mixing orange with orange, turquoise with turquoise, purple with purple,” he explains. “But when we met in Paris, Joseph said, ‘She likes to mix [them] together!’ I start screaming from happiness, because I’m obsessed with color-blocking; it’s so ‘Miami Vice’ and it’s so colorful and it’s so fresh. There is this sense of freedom in mixing these colors.”

As for whether the big cat emblem adorning each of the tops is an Easter egg, as some fans have theorized ? They’re not entirely off; while it’s a brand signifier, it also nods to Swift’s well-documented fondness for felines.

“Wildcats are part of the DNA of Cavalli, so I said, ‘Why don’t we put the brooch here?’ And she loved it,” Puglisi says. “She loves cats, I love cats!”

Taylor Swift Eras Tour

The designer looked to a different animal for inspiration when dreaming up the perfect look for the “Reputation” portion of Swift’s show: the snake.

“When Joseph explained to me [that she’s] the queen of snakes, I thought that was a fantastic idea. And at the end of the day, it became so iconic,” Puglisi says of his asymmetrical catsuit adorned with sparkly intertwined serpents.

Fans have noticed that while Swift alternates between a few different looks for the other “eras” of her show, we’ve only seen one “Reputation” costume — and that, coincidentally, the superstar has yet to reveal the release date for her re-recorded version of that album. With an announcement looming, could new catsuits be in the works?

“You will never know,” Puglisi says with a laugh. “She loves to surprise people!”

Taylor Swift Eras Tour

Some Swifties have even joked about her “Reputation” look “shedding” like an actual snake — and Puglisi acknowledges that when outfits designed with delicate embellishments are being worn for hours-long performances night after night, wear and tear is par for the course.

“We have dictates, of course; the zipper must be one way, we have to be careful with crystal [placement]. There are so many secrets,” he says, adding that Swift’s stylist is “fantastic” at ensuring any snags or missing sequins are fixed in between shows.

“Joseph is the real genius behind the scenes. People like Joseph, they have the vision, and they know how to handle these dramas.”

And while he calls the experience of designing her Eras Tour outfits a “dream,” Puglisi points to the “Midnights”-coded navy crop top and maxi skirt the musician wore the the 2023 Grammys as his personal favorite Swift-related project.

“It really looks like a midnight sky,” he says. “So chic, but very strong. And that’s what she is!”

Taylor Swift Grammys 2023

While Swift’s been a “Cavalli girl” for well over a decade — even sitting front row at one of the brand’s Milan runway shows in 2010 — her relationship with Puglisi dates back to before he joined the company in 2020.

“Before I started designing Roberto Cavalli, I had my own line, and she supported my collection since the beginning,” he notes of the star, who wore a look from his namesake label in her 2017 music video for “Look What You Made Me Do.”

“So many [fashion] houses want to dress Taylor because she’s the No. 1. I dress Taylor because I love Taylor.”
