All Dredge Endings and how to get them explained

How many endings are there in Dredge, how do you get the secret good ending, and what does it mean?

  • All Endings
  • Endings explained

The Dredge endings are very different from each other; there's a bad ending if you follow the main path, and a good ending - also a secret ending - if you find a special NPC and do some extra objectives to find out the truth of the Relics and the Collector. We can show you how to get all endings in Dredge below, including that special, secret ending for something marginally more upbeat than the regular one. Obviously, major spoilers for Dredge below!

All Endings in Dredge and how to get them

Dredge endings good bad secret explained good ending greater marrow

There are two endings to Dredge that players can get:

  • The Bad Ending
  • The Good/Secret Ending

Dredge Recording Rarities exotic fish Dredge Abyssal and Hadal fishing Dredge Stoplight Loosejaw Dredge Signet Ring

These are both determined by a split in the narrative that occurs after the final Relic is obtained, but the good ending isn't obvious, and requires you to visit an island that's wholly optional and meet an NPC that you aren't told about. Fortunately, we can lay out both of them below and how you can get them. Keep in mind that after you get one, it's totally viable to reload a save and get the other, to see the difference.

How to get the Bad Ending in Dredge

Dredge ending sunset

To get the Bad Ending in Dredge is very simple:

  • Obtain all five Relics in the main plot.
  • Return to the Collector on Blackstone Isle and hand them over.
  • Tell him you're ready to make the final voyage.
  • Sail to the marked spot on the map (Coordinates G-8) . There will be a pillar of red light to make it clear where you're going.
  • When you reach it, interact when prompted with a question mark icon to begin the final cutscene.

This is effectively what you're told to do, and by simply following the main quest, this is the point you'll reach at the end of the game. However, there is an alternative, and considering that the game autosaves just before step 3, where you lock into the final ending, you'll be able to go back and try again for a better result.

How to get the good, secret ending in Dredge

Dredge endings good bad secret explained old mayors location

To get the good ending in Dredge, players need to take a secret route that's far less obvious. We've laid it out below.

  • Sail to the unnamed island South of Devil's Spine (map coordinates P-10)
  • In the channel going through the island there will be some ruins you can dock at.
  • Dock here and speak to the NPC - the Old Mayor.
  • Listen to his whole story until he tells you to talk to the Lighthouse Keeper.
  • Head back to the starting town of Greater Marrow. Ask the Lighthouse Keeper what she knows of the Crimson Book.
  • Go to Blackstone Isle and speak to the Collector. Choose to conceal the Relic.
  • Ask him to tell you more about his Book and press the issue whenever prompted.
  • Choose to step closer and take the Book .
  • Leave without handing over the Relic and go back to the Lighthouse Keeper. Tell her you're ready.
  • Sail to the marked spot on the map (Coordinates G-8). The lighthouse will keep its beam trained on the point to help guide you.
  • Choose to "Throw it back" .

Well, we did say "good ending", not "happy ending." But what actually happened, and what does this all mean? Why do you have to... feed the fish in the good ending, and who was the Collector?

Dredge Ending explained

Dredge endings good bad secret explained bad ending god

Dredge's ending is based on a plot twist, one you find out in the secret ending: the unnamed main character and the Collector on Blackstone Isle are the same person . Between the Collector, the Lighthouse Keeper, and the Old Mayor, you get the full story handed out in pieces in the secret ending.

Your character was married at some point before the game started, and the two of you found the Crimson Book, also known as the Book of the Deep , dredged up from the ocean and filled with dark magic. They were accompanied by others, including the Old Mayor of Greater Marrow, but while they were leaving with it, some monster attacked the boat.

Dredge endings good bad secret explained collector reveal

The wife was killed in the attack, and the Old Mayor was driven mad by what he had seen, fleeing the town, the Lighthouse Keeper herself a witness to what had happened. However, the Book itself was the key to all sorts of evil power, including the summoning of an eldritch god , and wanted them to use it. With this in mind, it wiped the protagonist's memory of the event and created hallucinations in his mind of The Collector , a mysterious figure who guides him towards finding the Relics necessary to use it, suggesting that it could be used to bring the wife back to life - that's the story that you play through in the game.

The endings vary depending on whether you work out the truth . In the bad ending, your character never realises who the Collector is, and helps fulfil the ritual, thinking he's bringing back the wife but in reality summoning an ancient god and the apocalypse with it. In the good ending, the protagonist realises the truth, resists the influence of the Collector, understands that he's had the Book on him the whole time and throws it back into the ocean in the hope nobody will find it - only to be eaten by a sea monster, possibly the one that attacked the ship initially.

Dredge endings good bad secret explained giant sea monster

The actual identity of the monster is unclear - either it's a creature guarding the Book, attempting to destroy all who know about it to stop the eldritch god getting through, or it's a monster summoned by the Book to punish the protagonist for not performing the ritual. Either is possible… or it's just a random leviathan that notices a free snack at sea level. © GamesRadar+. Not to be reproduced without permission

Dredge has 2 different endings, 2.5 if you count the variation on ending 1.

Exclamation.png

For this ending, the Fisherman hands over all five Relics to the Collector .

He tells the Fisherman to wait for the fog to thicken before they make their last voyage across the sea. After the clock strikes 1 A.M., the Collector directs the Fisherman to sail to the west of Greater Marrow , to "The place where they lost her."" The Collector proceeds to throw each relic overboard, reciting a phrase for each one. The final two sent overboard are the Music Box and its Key , left unturned. Once the final two relics sink into the depths of the sea, the music box's melody begins to play and a woman rises from the depths, covered in a reddish glow. The woman is presumably the Fisherman/Collector's wife lost all those years ago, brought back to life. However, she is not alone as another colossal creature reminiscent of an eldritch horror rises behind the boat, massive and covered in countless tentacles, with two big eyes. the creature is the shape of the top half of a skull, with the bottom half tentacles.

The creature's ginormous size creates waves that rock the boat. The scene then fades and we are shown Greater Marrow destroyed, in the same manner as the Obelisk showed, fire and smoke rising from its ruins, and the sky covered in Miasma .

If the second ending is done first, the dialogue in this ending will be altered. The Collector will fade from his mirror and the Fisherman notes that the Collector is "with him" rather than "The Collector is aboard your vessel." The one who opens the Book, reads from it, and tosses the relics, will no longer be "He" but "You".

The Fisherman and his shattered reflection

To unlock this ending, the Old Mayor is required to be found. He "mistakes" the Fisherman for the Collector , and rambles about the Fog, Aberrations , and the Book, shedding light on their sources, and suggests that you talk to the Lighthouse Keeper about it. The conversation with the Lighthouse Keeper encourages the Fisherman to confront the Collector about his Book. He jokes about it before The Fisherman swings at him. It is in this confrontation where the true identity of both the Fisherman and the Collector is revealed. The Collector is nothing more than the Fisherman's reflection in a mirror, shattered by his fist.

The Fisherman then takes the Book of the Deep back to the Lighthouse Keeper, who says they should take advantage of this moment of lucidity, and points him in the direction where the Book must be returned to with the lighthouse beam. After the Book is returned to the sea, the Leviathan swallows him, his boat, and the Book. The fog finally clears, revealing an aurora borealis in a clear night sky. The scene fades to Greater Marrow on a peaceful night, the sky covered in green light.

Stardew Valley Player Discovers A Key Gameplay Mechanic After 300 Hours

Sims 4 update finally fixes one of the biggest problems with high school years, kind of, i can't wait for you to finally play this final fantasy spiritual successor, quick links, how to unlock the bad ending, how to unlock the good ending.

There are two endings players can unlock in Dredge , either the standard "bad" ending or a secret "good" conclusion that gives a bit more context to the events of the story. While one ending is found as players normally explore the story, the secret ending comes from tracking down an elusive NPC. Either option is determined once players collect all five Relics and sail toward the marked G-8 spot on the map to end the game.

Careful! From this point on, expect heavy spoilers for both story endings for Dredge. The cut-off point that determines what ending players get is right before they embark on the game's final voyage to G-8 . Players should save right before this point, before doing anything with the collected Relics , to reload the game to experience both endings. This is also a great way to find whatever collectibles are on the map or finish any side quests involving the Figures for some last-minute rewards.

Related: Dredge: How to Find (& Solve) The Figure in Violet Side Quest

The bad ending is far easier to unlock since players usually encounter this by progressing normally through the story . The one way to guarantee this conclusion involves handing over all the Relics to the Collector on Blackstone Isle . Making the last journey to G-8 shows a pillar of red light to help guide players to their final destination.

Going to the white question mark and selecting a prompt to interact with it plays the final cutscene , where an ancient god is summoned to start the apocalypse. However, the appearance of this entity abruptly ends the game without any direct explanation about what just happened.

Going to a ruin located in the Devil's Spine , or section P-10 of the map takes players to an unmarked island where they must speak to the Old Mayor NPC after collecting all 5 Relics . His story reveals that he had gone mad from a sea monster attack out at sea and leads players toward the Lighthouse Keeper at the starting town of Greater Marrow . She tells players of the Crimson Book of the Deep , but only when they ask about the artifact.

The key to getting this ending is discovering this hidden truth and concealing the Relics found from the Collector . Asking the Collector about the Book lets players take the Book from him , which opens up a new mission to return to the Lighthouse Keeper . Once players tell her that they are ready , they need to sail to G-8 and throw back the Book into the ocean , unlocking the secret ending.

The game's biggest secret is that the unnamed main character is the Collector, who lost his memories . The good ending alludes to this, revealing crucial details about the discovery of the Crimson Book by the Fisherman and his wife. Unfortunately, while some story background is revealed through every Message in a Bottle found in Dredge regarding the wife, all players need to know is that she was killed by the dark powers of the book, which the Old Mayor and Lighthouse Keeper both witnessed.

Unfortunately, the final ending players can unlock in Dredge sees the Fisherman get eaten by a Leviathan fish that attacks the player's boat, but this does not summon an ancient sea god to destroy the world, so this might be a slightly better outcome.

Every 'Dredge' Ending Explained and What You Need to Do to Get Them

'Dredge' All Endings Explained and How to Get Them

Without a doubt, Dredge has an unearthly atmosphere that introduces new twists and turns to expand its limits. Naturally, the fishing mechanics, island exploration , and boat upgrading will take most of a player's time, but the eerie narrative is a looming backdrop they can't escape.

After following the wishes of The Collector, a man tasking players to dredge otherwordly relics underneath the sea, Dredge will unravel some mysteries and leave some unanswered to linger once it concludes.

Surprisingly, the cosmic horror fishing game has more than one ending. If you're wondering what each means and how to get the endings in Dredge , here's an explanation:

'Dredge' has a good and bad ending you can get.

Once you've obtained the last relic, whatever you do next will determine if you get a good or bad ending in Dredge . The latter is the easiest to stumble upon, while the former isn't as obvious.

The bad ending involves turning in the last relic to The Collector on Blackstone Isle and agreeing to make a final voyage to a specific location he marks on your map. You will see a pillar of the familiar eldritch-like lights at the spot, and when you reach it, the final cutscene will begin.

Conversely, the good ending requires you to head to an optional area south of the Devil's Spine after obtaining the last relic. On the island will be a dock where you can find an NPC named The Old Mayor.

Hear out his story and head to the Lighthouse Keeper on the Greater Marrow island to start a conversation about the Crimson Book held by The Collector. The process will send you to the bespectacled man, prompting an option to conceal the relic.

You will then press him about the Crimson Book, take it from The Collector, and throw it into the ocean.

Quite a lot happens between both endings, and much is still a mystery once the curtains close, but you do earn some crucial answers.

Both 'Dredge' endings explained:

The bottles you found across the game have planted seeds about a married couple coming into contact with the evil power underneath the sea.

The good ending reveals the unnamed main character as the husband from the final conversations with the Lighthouse Keeper and Old Mayor. Moreover, the ending hints at The Collector and the protagonist being the same person.

It's a working theory, but a scene of the protagonist staring at a broken mirror of The Collector leads us to believe that's the case.

The protagonist had his memories wiped by an eldritch god after his wife was killed during its attack, the Crimson Book being the centerpiece of its summoning and creating hallucinations of The Collector.

The good ending helps the protagonist realize the undeniable truth and chuck the Crimson Book in his possession.

On the other hand, the bad ending sees the protagonist lured out to sea and eaten by a monster. We can assume the eldritch god is protecting the knowledge of the Crimson Book and summoned the creature.

Dredge is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Dredge’s endings, explained

How to get the bad “default” ending and good “secret” ending

by Nicole Carpenter

A small fishing boat pulled up on an island in Dredge.

Trawling the depths in Dredge , you’ll come across a series of different people to aid you — or not — on your journey. One of those people is the Collector, a man who lives alone in a ruined mansion and tasks the player with, well, collecting a bunch of items thought to be lost to the sea. He’s key to the game’s mysterious story, and he’ll usher the fisherman toward the end of the game.

[ Ed. note: This guide has spoilers for Dredge ’s two endings.]

Dredge ’s “bad” ending is essentially the default, the one that most players will stumble upon without knowing there’s any other option. Looking to force either of these endings? Here’s how you’ll do it.

A fishing boat sails away from a giant, one-eyed fish monster at nighttime in a screenshot from Dredge

How to get the “bad” — or default — ending in Dredge

To get Dredge ’s bad ending, you’ll simply have to do as the Collector says: Find and bring him the five lost relics strewn throughout the ocean and its different archipelagos.

Once you’ve got them all, you’ll have to return to the Collector (who lives on Blackstone Island in the mansion). He’ll give you the option to move forward to the end of the game; there’s a warning that there’s no turning back from it. If you choose to move forward, he’ll mark a location on the map, but you should be able to see a red pillar of light emerging from the depths on the sea, too. Steer the ship there and interact with the pillar of light.

How to get the “good,” secret ending in Dredge

The good ending still requires you to grab all five relics at the Collector’s request, but instead of bringing the last one to him, you’ll keep it and take the red book from him. (You can skip the Old Mayor, by the way, and just start resisting the Collector, but it’s harder to understand the story.) Here’s what to do to understand the whole story:

  • You’ll sail to an unnamed island near Devil’s Spine, at the northeastern side of the map. The small island is south of Devil’s Spine at the P10 coordinates on the map.
  • Sail around the island until you find a dock to stop at. There’s a guy there, the old mayor of The Marrows.
  • Talk to him and he’ll start revealing the truth of the matter, and he tells you to go to the Lighthouse Keeper.
  • Go back to Greater Marrow to see her and she’ll tell you about the book and the secrets of the Collector.
  • Return to the Collector and get the book from him. He’ll resist a few times, but keep asking for the book.
  • When you get to the Step Closer prompt, press that and then take the book.
  • Then return to the Lighthouse Keeper who will guide you to a different spot, G8, on the map — the lighthouse is illuminating the spot.

In the bad “default” ending, the Collector and the fisherman are using the relics to bring the dead wife back to life, which sort of happens, but a horrible monster is also revived — probably the Collector’s actual goal. This is basically the end of the world, and the surrounding islands go up in flames and everyone dies. Whoops!

In the good “secret” ending, you throw the book back when prompted, wait a bit and you and the book will get chomped up by a big sea monster.

Wait, what?

Are you confused? Let me explain. The game starts with the fisherman winding up at Greater Marrow with no memory. That’s because his memory was wiped, maybe by the power of the book. But the events that led up to that moment was what you uncover throughout the game: The fisherman’s wife and him were sailing the seas together and found the red book. A monster attacked the boat when they found it, and it was so horrific that the Old Mayor fled to that abandoned island while the Lighthouse Keeper stayed.

The book created the Collector to point the fisherman toward the relics and unlocking the evil powers of the ocean — that huge monster that sets flames upon the area. The Collector, you realize, is a reflection of the fisherman himself. In the bad ending, the woman floating above the sea is his wife, brought back to life with the sea monster. My theory is that the fisherman doesn’t realize the Collector is a reflection of his own mind in the “bad” ending.

The “good” ending is when the fisherman does realize it and understands the power of the book — which is why he throws it back.

All Dredge Endings Explained: How To Get Good Ending

Paarth Wadke

While Dredge may seem like a simple fishing simulator, it holds a deep secret like the vast ocean. As you go on by your day collecting fish, selling them, and upgrading your boat, you will learn about the protagonist’s story in parts. If you’ve reached the end or completed the game once, then you must be wondering what it meant. To help you out, we will explain the ending of Dredge and tell you how to get a good ending as well.

Note: Major Spoilers Ahead

How to Get the Good Ending in Dredge

How to get good ending

For players who’ve finished Dredge or are at the final phase and want a good ending, this is how you can get it:

  • Once you collect all five Relics, head to the island below Devil’s Spine region.
  • Dock your boat and talk to the Old Mayor.
  • Once he narrates the whole story, visit the Greater Marrow and talk to the Lighthouse Keeper.
  • She will tell you a story and ask you to collect the Collector’s book.
  • Head over to the Blackstone Isle and talk to the Collector. Make sure you select the “Conceal the Relic” option.
  • Select options that disagree with the Collector which leads to you finally punching him.
  • Once you do that, a shocking twist is revealed.
  • Then, make sure you leave without handing the book and head to the Lighthouse Keeper.
  • She will help you reach the final spot by keeping the beam of the Lighthouse on it (G-8 on Map).
  • Once you reach the spot, choose the option to throw the book in the water.

This will trigger the end scene and the credits at the end. We’ve not explained all the parts yet since there are players who’d like to experience it firsthand.

How to Get the Bad Ending

Getting the bad ending in this Dredge is straightforward.

  • Once you collect the Relics, head over to the Collector and hand them over.
  • He will ask you to accompany him to a spot on the map.
  • Follow the red beam of light and you will reach there.
  • Then, press the prompted button once you see the question mark.
  • This will trigger the final scene of the bad ending.

Since you know how to get both endings in Dredge, we will explain their meaning.

All Dredge Endings Explained

Bad Ending

The bad ending of Dredge features a woman being resurrected along with an elder god. During the credits, we notice that the town of Marrow is in ruins. Many players are wondering who that woman is and how she is connected to the story. To understand this ending, we must learn about the protagonist’s backstory.

At the beginning of the game, we do not know anything about the protagonist. As the game progresses, you can collect the messages in a bottle floating around the sea. These bottles tell the story of a couple who set off on a voyage on a boat.

Before the couple got married, the husband performed a ritual where he renamed the boat to his wife. As a part of this ritual, he threw all the things that were named after the old boat. However, the wife held on to one item which cast bad luck on them.

During the voyage, the couple, along with a few crew members, found a chest with the Crimson Book. This is the same book that The Collector carries indicating that he is the husband in the story. While returning from this expedition, the boat was attacked. During this attack, the wife was thrown overboard and the mayor lost his sanity.

According to the Crimson Book, collecting all Relics and throwing them back will resurrect the wife. This explains The Collector’s request to collect all the relics from the ocean. Once the protagonist hands him all the relics, the Collector takes him on a final voyage.

When they reach the spot, the Collector throws all relics and the Crimson Book into the ocean. This leads to his wife being resurrected along with the elder Cthulu-esque god. What we understand from this is that the Crimson Book was a tool from the god to resurrect itself back. It used the Collector’s love for his wife to do its bidding. When the elder god is resurrected, you will see that the Marrow is in ruins.

Good Ending

Good Ending

In the final scene of the good ending, a giant fish devours the boat along with the protagonist. While this may not seem like the ‘Good’ ending, we assure you that it is. In this ending, the protagonist faces the Collector and does not hand him the relics. When the protagonist tries to get the book, he punches him only to reveal that the Collector is a manifestation of his mind. Meaning, the Collector and the protagonist are the same.

After losing his wife, the protagonist creates the fictional Collector and asks him to erase his memory. The Collector with the power of the Crimson Book does so. However, the manifested Collector yearns for the deceased wife and tries to bring her back.

When the protagonist realizes this, he visits the old Mayor and the Lighthouse Keeper. They tell him of that fateful night and the power of the Crimson Book.

Realizing the book’s power, the protagonist stops the resurrection of the elder god by throwing the book into the ocean. Once he does that, a giant fish rises from the ocean and devours him. According to me, this giant fish might be the one who attacked the couple’s boat in the first place. And since the protagonist did not complete the ritual, it appeared to retrieve the book and wait for its next victim. However, the town of Marrow is safe.

We hope this explains all Dredge endings and how to get them. For more such content as the best upgrades , make sure you visit our Dredge Guides section.

Dredge Endings Guide

Good Ending

To unlock the good ending you must complete the Collector Pursuit but when you give the final relic to the collector, reject his plan and head to an island due south of the Devil’s Spine. Upon docking here you will be able to speak to the Old Mayor.

Talking to the Old Mayor will eventually prompt the player to visit the Lighthouse Keeper in Greater Marrow. Ask this keeper what she knows about the silver and crimson book before heading back to the Collector and pressing him for details about the book.

Find the book and bring it to the Lighthouse Keeper and let her know you have it. Then proceed to the point marked on your map and interact with the water at the marked spot to prompt the final sequence of the game.

For the bad ending, you go along with the Collector’s plan initially instead of finding the mayor and lighthouse keeper. The Collector will tell you to make one final journey to the point marked on your map, head to this point and interact with the water to initiate the bad ending.

That is our guide to the Dredge endings, while there are only two, one is more detailed than the other.

Dredge Walkthrough Chapter 6: The Collector

A complete guide covering the events for The Collector, the Final Main Pursuit of Dredge, including handy tips and tricks to use along the way

Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector cover

The Collector is the sixth and final chapter of Dredge . With the final relic in the hands of the Fisherman, he can now fulfill The Collector’s favor. But will the reward be worth all of his efforts? Read ahead as we go through the events of Chapter 6: The Collector of Dredge and share some tips and tricks on how to complete the chapter.

On this Guide:

After obtaining the fifth relic, your next objective is to bring it back to the The Collector as usual. But as you arrive back at Blackstone Isle, you will be prompted to assume you’ll be heading into the final act of the story. It is best to pay a visit to the Old Mayor at one of these locations: F15, J3, O2, or P10, first before proceeding, as this will open up the path to an alternate ending of the game; doing so will not prevent you from experiencing the original ending.

It is recommended to experience the original ending first, then reload the game to experience the alternate ending.

Bad Ending - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

Go to Blackstone Isle and talk to The Collector. Hand over the final relic to him, and he will point you to a specific location where you will have to sail. Time will then fast forward to midnight when the thick fog has rolled in. You can then go to G8 or follow the pillar of light.

Bad Ending Final Scene - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

At the destination, The Collector throws each artifact into the water, throwing the music box last. A glowing body of a woman then rises up from the depths of the water, followed by a gigantic creature full of tentacles in the far distance. The final scene then cuts to Greater Marrow, which is now in flames, suggesting that the creature has also started its course of destruction.

Good Ending

Lighthouse Keeper - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

If you have paid the Old Mayor a visit, you’ll learn that he was one of the witnesses to the tragedy that happened years ago involving a cursed book. He then tells you to talk to the Lighthouse Keeper, who will tell you more about the Crimson Book, which is the source of all the anomalies that have been happening on the islands.

Head to the Blackstone Isle to confront The Collector. Conceal the relic from him, then proceed to ask him about the Crimson Book. He will be coy to you about the book, but keep pressing him until you get the option to take the book.

The Fisherman & The Collector - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

As the Fisherman takes the book, it will be revealed that the Fisherman and the Collector have been the same person all along, just looking in the mirror every time they meet. Also, the book was always in the Fisherman’s possession, but its influence is strong enough to manipulate him, with The Collector being the side of him that always wanted to bring his dead wife back to life. This was the “promise” that the book gave, but it was all a ploy to open up a portal, as seen in the bad ending scene.

Toss the Book Back at Sea - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

It is not over yet for the Fisherman, as he has to end the cycle of the curse by tossing the book back into the sea, where it belongs. Head back to the Lighthouse Keeper, and she will tell you to sail over to G8 at midnight. You can also follow where the lighthouse is pointing its light to find the location.

Good Ending Final Scene - Dredge Chapter 6 The Collector Walkthrough

Once you arrive at the marked location, the Fisherman will throw the book into the water, ending the curse’s cycle. A large leviathan then appears and swallows the entire ship, making sure that the Fisherman, someone who was revived from death by the evil entity, was also taken out of existence.

The final scene then shows a view of Greater Marrow with a clear sky illuminated by auroras. Congratulations! You have completed Dredge!

How to get the secret ending in Dredge

Image of Blaine Polhamus

Dredge is an adventure horror game developed by Team17, released across both PC and most consoles. In Dredge , players assume the role of a fisherman who crashed along the shores of a town called Greater Marrow with no memory of their past voyage.

Players then work for the town to pay off the loan to purchase a new boat, uncovering the mysteries of the island along the way.

Early into your playthrough, players will encounter a figure named the Collector. This esoteric figure will task the player with retrieving and delivering a wide array of ominous trinkets. The Collector’s plotline is the main questline of Dredge , progressing players to the game’s eventual conclusion.

Dredge has two separate endings. The ‘bad’ ending works at the game’s primary conclusion most players will encounter, but with the correct knowledge players can unlock the secret ‘good’ ending.

If you are trying to unlock the good ending in Dredge , this is what you need to do.

Dredge’s ‘Bad’ Ending, explained

Before explaining how to get the good ending, it is important to explain how so many players end up getting the ‘bad’ ending. To get the bad ending, players only need to follow the Collector’s orders and deliver him the various objects he requires.

Given the Collector is the primary quest giver of the series and is the character that pushes the plot, alongside our fisherman, most players are willing to fulfill the Collector’s request. After handing over the necessary relics, the fisherman’s deceased wife, along with an Eldritch monster, are both revived. The archipelagos are soon engulfed in flames and we can only assume that we helped in ending the world.

How to get the ‘Good’ Secret Ending in Dredge

In order to avoid this cataclysm initiated by the Collector, players still need complete most of the Collector’s objective. After collecting the five relics, players will not deliver the final relic and instead keep the item and take the Red Book from the collector.

To ensure you are on track to receive the good ending, follow all the steps below:

  • Obtain all five Relics for the Collector
  • Sail to the southern part of the Devil’s Spine (p10)
  • Station your ship at the nearby dock
  • Speak to the Old Mayor
  • Go back to Greater Marrow and ask the Lighthouse Keeper about the Red Book
  • Ask the Lighthouse Keeper more about the Red Book whenever prompted
  • Venture to Blackstone and speak with the Collector, make sure to choose to conceal the Relic whenever prompted.
  • Asked him to tell you more about the book.
  • Whenever the option appears, step closer and take the Red Book.
  • Go back to the Lighthouse Keeper
  • Sail to the marked location on the map (g8)
  • Select the Throw it Back option

While in the bad ending the fisherman never realizes the truth behind the Collector’s plans, the good ending sees players realize the figure’s true goal of resurrecting an ancient god.

Does Dredge have multiple endings? All Dredge endings & how to get them

Image of Brent Koepp

In Dredge, you play the role of a lonely fisherman tasked with keeping a small town afloat via the fishing trade. But not all is as it seems, and things get bizarre fast, with a mysterious figure asking you to track down Relics to uncover the mystery and solve the story. But does Dredge have multiple endings? Here is a list of all Dredge endings and how to get them.

All Dredge multiple endings, listed

There are two endings in Dredge, though only one will provide you with a suitable lore wrap-up at the end. The other cuts the story off early, leaving you to wonder why things are how they are.

You can either get the Bad or Good ending in Dredge, with the latter obviously being the one you want to aim for. A warning that there will be minor spoilers ahead , so proceed at your own risk .

How to get the Bad ending in Dredge

final voyage dredge

For Dredge's Bad ending , you can play however you like until you've reached the point where you've collected all five Relics . Once you have, return to Blackstone Isle , enter the Mansion , and speak to the Collector . Tell him you want to make the final voyage .

The familiar beam of red light will appear in the ocean: this is where you need to go. Sail to it ( map coordinates G8 , to be exact), and you'll see a sparkling spot in the water. Interact with it to start the final cutscene and reach the Bad ending in Dredge. You'll unlock the Unshackled achievement for doing so.

How to get the Good ending in Dredge

final voyage dredge

To get Dredge's Good ending , collect all five Relics . But before handing them in, though, make a detour to an unmarked island at map coordinates P10 and anchor at the dock here. Why, you ask? Because the Old Mayor is waiting for you by the campfire. Speak to them.

Once the conversation ends, return to your boat and sail to Greater Marrow , where your journey started. Talk to the Lighthouse Keeper and ask them about the silver and crimson book before heading over to Blackstone Isle , entering the Mansion , and speaking to the Collector .

Refuse to hand over the final Relic, and he'll eventually hand you the Crimson Book. Return to the Lighthouse Keeper in Greater Marrow, and once the conversation is over, go back to your vessel .

Sail over to map coordinates G8, where you'll see the same sparkling spot in the water as the Bad ending. Though, this time, interacting with it will net you the Good ending in Dredge instead.

By Angelz in Nintendo Switch PC PS4 PS5 Xbox 02/04/2023

Speaking of the end there are 2 Endings to the game. First is the Original Ending and second are the Secret Ending. To learn how to get both Endings and obtain the achievements “ Unshackled “, and “ Sated ” for respective endings; complete reading this post.

All Endings, Original And Secret Ending At Dredge

The normal ending or say the original ending is said to be a bad ending which is self-explanatory when you see the cutscene after dropping all 5 relics. However, the secret or alternate ending is said to be a good ending due to the plot and story it unravels.

How To Get Original/Bad Ending

After collecting all the relics, you will have to return to the Blackstone Isle to have a chat with the Collector in the Ruined Mansion. After the dialogues and option selection, if you select “ I’m ready “; there is no turning back and the sequence will play. The final voyage.

At night, undock and go towards the mysterious red light i.e. coming from the ocean. Once you reach the location, the ritual will begin. In the end, the ritual will be successfully completed; resurrecting her wife as well as releasing an unknown monster free to create havoc. (Like the past)

How To Get Alternate/Good Ending

On the map, there is a couple of islands in P10 . Visit the island in P10 near Devil’s Spine i.e. Makeshift Dock. You will talk to the Old Mayor who will reveal the true horror. Later, you will have to visit Greater Marrow again in order to talk to the Lighthouse Keeper.

Inquire about the silver and crimson book and she will reply the same that the book should be returned for your and her sake. Moving on is the only option to avoid such a disaster.

Next, go back to the Collector where an extra option should be presented i.e. “ Tell me more about the book of yours. ” Pressure him and the truth will be revealed. The past will unravel and you will be able to connect the dots of the event that happened from the beginning. “ Take the book ” from your former self and return back to the Lighthouse Keeper.

Converse with the Lighthouse Keeper and she will guide you to the place by pointing the light to a specific location. Dredge: How To Unlock The Secret Ending

Everything you need to know to unlock the Secret Ending in Dredge.

How To Unlock The “Bad” Ending

How to unlock the secret ending.

final voyage dredge

Dredge can be as relaxing, engrossing, or mysterious as you want it to be. Theoretically, you could abandon the story and spend hours just fishing. It can be a simple life, but it’s one that is surprisingly compelling. Heck, our run time was elongated because we kept on casting our rod out and chilling along some random coast.

But there is a story in Dredge, and it’s one steeped in intrigue. Even in its final throes of wonder, Dredge doesn’t fully explain itself. Instead, it leaves a fair amount of it up to interpretation and player intuition. Not only that, there are two endings, and in this guide, we are going to go over both.

Note: We are going to do our best to avoid spoilers, but the nature of this guide means that some aspects of Dredge will be spoiled. You’ve been warned.

final voyage dredge

The Bad Ending is the standard ending in Dredge. It is likely going to be the ending most people get on their first time through. This is because, despite the game repeatedly railing you for blindly doing the busywork of a stranger, you continued to do said busywork. Whoops.

To get the Bad Ending in Dredge all you have to do is follow the main storyline. This is to say you need to do what The Collector says and return all of the missing Relics. These are scattered around Dredge’s world, and his Questline is the main driving force behind the game’s progression.

Once you hand The Collector the final Relic, the game ends and some interesting things happen. Whoops, you did a goof. Next time try and avoid handing the keys to cosmic death to a madman, aye?

final voyage dredge

The Secret Ending is well hidden, but it doesn’t require much more work to get – a rare thing indeed. Once you have obtained all 5 Relics for the Collector, make your way to Devil’s Spine. You are looking for the Old Mayor who has been mentioned a few times in passing. He went mad whilst governing Lesser Marrow.

You can find him on an unmarked island in Devil’s Spine. Make your way to P10 on your map to find his island easier, then look for a dock to pull up. Talk to the Old Mayor to get some insights on what’s going on then make your way back to Greater Marrow. You can save time by teleporting to Blackstone Isle.

Once back at Greater Marrow, talk to the mysterious Lighthouse Keeper. If you have been coming back to Greater Marrow throughout the game, you will already know that this lady knows a lot more than she’s been willing to tell you. Now it’s time to get that information. Ask about the Red Book, and continue asking until the option goes away.

With the information in hand, head to Blackstone Island. It’s time to confront The Collector. When talking to The Collector, conceal the final Relic and repeatedly ask about the Red Book. Whenever you are given the chance, take a step closer. Continue this until you get the option to take the Red Book.

Now you have the Red Book, you have what you need to end the game. Go back to the Lighthouse Keeper in Greater Marrow. She will give you directions to a place you can dispose of the Red Book. Make your way there, and choose to throw the book overboard.

With that out of the way, the game ends. Congratulations, you have just completed Dredge – for a second time most likely.

That’s all we have on Dredge for now. Be sure to check out our other Guides and Walkthroughs for more Dredge content. Beware of the terrors hiding in the deep.

The point of no return, the bad ending in dredge, explained, the good ending in dredge, explained, what does it all mean, pale reach ending, explained, the iron rig ending, explained.

On the surface, Dredge is a single-player fishing game with a dark slimy secret floating just under the surface. This warped tale of eldritch terror culminates in two endings straight out of the Lovecraftian playbook.

Sons Of The Forest: Ending, Explained

The end of your trials and tribulations is a bit of a mystery, so here's everything you need to know about the many endings of Sons of the Forest.

Like those twisted tales of old, Dredge's finales also leave quite a little bit to the imagination. One of the endings is also locked behind some extra steps that are easily missed, so you can often mistake the results you get as all there is. So to fill in the blanks and bring these dark story beats into the light, here's the endings in Dredge explained.

Updated August 30, 2024 By Matthew Mckeown: Whilst it seems like Dredge was a one-and-done type of game, your adventures through those Eldritch waters were substantially expanded upon with new content. After a stellar reception, the devs behind Dredge were able to pump out not one, but two pieces of story-based DLC.

Dubbed Pale Reach and Iron Rig, these new expansions were released several months apart and took your fishing boat to brand-new locations. There we met new NPCs, pulled up weirder and mutated fish, and enjoyed a brief but interesting side-story distraction for a few hours. For those catching up on everyone's favorite Captain, here are the endings to the Dredge DLCs explained.

Warning: Spoilers For The Ending Of Dredge Below

Before diving straight into the murky waters surrounding the story, it's worth highlighting the point of no return . For those who don't know, this is the moment where a game locks you into a specific ending path, and Dredge does signpost that exact moment particularly well. Plus, the game saves before each ending begins, so you can still unlock both in one run.

The point of no return is the moment you give the last lost relic to the Collector on Blackstone Island. A warning will flash, and at this point, you can choose to either do the default " bad ending " or go on an adventure for a little while to unlock the " good ending " instead.

The Two Endings

There are two endings , and getting them is pretty easy as you just have to return the lost relics , which you'll naturally do anyway as the game progresses.

They're also a little similar in their overall theme , but there is enough of a difference between the two to make the process of unlocking them worthwhile. For those going for the 100 percent completionist run, here are both endings broken down .

To get the basic "bad ending," return to Collector with the last relic . When you do, he'll warn you that you're approaching the end of the game. If you choose to continue, he'll mark a special spot on your map to visit. A red pillar of light will mark this area, so it's pretty easy to spot.

Scorn: Ending, Explained

It was always going to end this way for everyone.

Sail your vessel towards this spot and interact with it to trigger a cutscene and the end of the game. The Collector is onboard and remarks that this is the spot where the Fisherman's wife died and also where she can be resurrected . The Collector then performs a ritual, tossing the items overboard as he intones some strange script.

Then the power on the boat cuts out, and everything darkens as a ghostly figure of a woman floats up from the depths. In the background, a gigantic red-eyed tentacle monstrosity rises out of the ocean as the screen cuts to black and the credits roll over apocalyptic scenes.

Dark blood-red skies , vicious thunderstorms, and the mansion that was so previously frequented now ablaze . Implying that although the Fisherman got his wife back, it was at a high price, as the world is now being destroyed by a gigantic sea blob.

If the default "bad end" was a little too grim, the alternate is a little more positive but just as dark . To trigger this finale, first collect all the lost relics. Instead of tossing them all at the Collector this time as part of your normal fishing routine, go speak to the Old Mayor over at the Greater Marrow after you hand each one in.

The Mayor is found on an unmarked island that you might sail past a few times, but it's found on P10 on your map grid . There's a small dock on this abandoned archipelago.

The Old Mayor will tell you to go to the Lighthouse Keeper in the Greater Marrow as they have a few things that will add some extra context to what's going on. He'll also explain why the waters surrounding these isles are mutating the fish and making everything look so Eldritch and evil around the coastlines, as well as the secret of the Book of The Deep .

After this lovely and disconcerting discussion, hop back on your boat and go see The Collector again . This time, ask for the book. They will refuse a few times but remain adamant, and eventually a prompt will appear saying, " Step Closer ." Accepting the prompt locks you into the "good" ending as you take the book from the Collector, who was your reflection in a mirror. After this, return to the Lighthouse Keeper again and speak to them.

They'll ask you to go to another point on the map. It's illuminated, so it's not hard to miss. But, if you're struggling, the map grid is G8 . Sailing to this spot and interacting with it will bring up the prompt " Throw it back ." This can be canceled twice if you still have things to do. But accepting it will cause the Fisherman to dramatically toss the evil book into the ocean. Something the book is not very happy about .

The cursed tome sinks beneath the waves; the camera slowly pans out; everything is serene and calm. Then a giant sea monster surfaces, swallows the ship and the Fisherman whole, then swims off as the game ends and the credits roll. Though this time, the Mansion is not on fire, and everything seems normal on the island again.

If you're still left scratching your head by this point, don't worry, here's a breakdown. In the beginning, you are a Fisherman who starts at the Greater Marrow with amnesia . He doesn't remember who he is, why he's there, or what's going on, only that he has to fish. It's revealed that this was caused by the Book of The Deep .

Prior to arriving at these cursed isles, the same Fisherman was on his boat with his wife . The two sailed the seas happily together until, one day, they pulled up the book. Unfortunately, doing so causes a massive sea monster to attack the small and vulnerable vessel.

Our protagonist survives, but sadly his wife does not. These events were witnessed by the remaining islanders , but it was so terrible that the Old Mayor decided to flee to his hermit isle to avoid it all. The Collector wasn't a real person, he was created by the book to be your guide to reviving your dead wife.

Amnesia: The Bunker’s Story, Explained

A twisting tale of terror, here's how the story of Amnesia: The Bunker plays out.

If Shadow of The Colossus taught us anything, these kinds of deals never work out how you intend. Sure enough, it's the same here . The Collector turns out to be a manifestation of the dark part of the Fisherman brought about by the machinations of the book and the dark entity it's linked to. Its purpose is to release the blob demon lurking beneath the waves so that the apocalypse can begin.

The giant sea beast in the "good ending" is the same one that attacked the boat in the beginning , implying that it's linked to the book. Whether it's another manifestation of the jellyfish-esque Star God or is just a massive fish that's under its influence is honestly up to your own interpretation.

But the instant reaction to the rejection of the mission to recover the relics being death by big sea monster means that the two are definitely linked . There’s also a bit of sub-text about grief , with each ending corresponding to the Fisherman's own rejection or acceptance that his wife is gone, and the following the requests of his dark part is his denial, driving him in futility to bring her back.

There are also some interesting implications around time. How time in the game seems to pass, how the ritual to summon the Blancmange from Hell has the line " release a lost one frozen in time ," implying that perhaps time has stopped for the Fisherman, and he's in a never-ending loop.

Plus, the pages shown onscreen have a solar cycle on them. There's also how the town itself seems to be frozen in time with its architecture. Finally, there are big Shadow Over Innsmouth vibes with how the Presence seems to only affect the town, the fish , and anyone that gets too close, in this case, the Fisherman and his wife.

Dredge’s approach to DLC has been an interesting one. Instead of loading you into a new area or requiring a full restart, it just adds a new location to the map . You can sail to there at your leisure and then take part in the tasks you find.

As it plays out you’ll start to notice there are large chunks of a gigantic Narwhal-type monster encased in ice scattered around the frozen island. The spooky thing about that is the the islands are the remains of a monster.

It turns out a very, very long time ago the gigantic Narwhal fought with the Leviathan that capsized your boat at the start of the game. The Leviathan won that brawl and ripped the Narwhal into pieces . But because it’s an unkillable Eldritch monster, it instead froze its parts in ice to preserve them and has been trying to reconstitute itself ever since.

The frozen crew you find were lured in and encouraged to dig up the beast with the promise of valuable crystals and other treasures locked within the ice.

At some point a fishing crew stumbled upon it and over time it whispered into their minds and turned them mad. The Captain of the doomed vessel sacrificed his crew one by one in an attempt to resurrect the Narwhal, but unfortunately there was a mistake in the ritual.

Three sacrifices were required with the Captain set to be the third . But before that could happen a fourth person was frozen , either after or at the same time and this threw a wrench in the ritual .

Instead of resurrection, all were encased in ice.

The Fisherman appears at some point and through completing tasks around the isle we’re able to lift the curse and free the trapped souls of the long-dead crew that arrived before you. As each soul is freed the giant, still alive Narwhal , slowly closes eye after multiple eye.

When the last one closes, the beast finally goes into what’s assumed to be either an eternal slumber or final death as its golden horn crumbles and falls into the ocean. Then the Fisherman can leave or continue to explore the area.

Just like the Pale Reach, the Iron Rig pops up on your gameworld and you can sail straight to it whenever you like during the main story. It’s a relatively short distance to the North and you’ll see it once you get near The Marrows.

The side story surrounding the Rig is one of extinct creatures, corruption and capitalism gone wild. In this tale, the Fisherman comes across a Rig owned by the Ironhaven Company , a large wrought iron and rusting structure looming in the ocean to the North.

It's run by a skeleton crew and a few NPCs , primarily the Foreman and the Scientist . The Foreman tasks the Fisherman with finding lost Ironhaven Company boxes left around the area that can be used to upgrade the Iron Rig, whilst the Scientist requests samples from the local spooky fish population.

After the Iron Rig is fully upgraded the Foreman and his crew proceed to drill into the sea floor beneath them. But because things are never that simple in this land, t he drilling causes massive fissures all across the ocean floor, whilst a strange black goop begins to emerge and pollute the surrounding sea life.

This strange oil not only mutates the local wildlife , but it also revives the corpses of long-dead species. the Fisherman continues to collect samples for the Scientist , but unfortunately exposure to the goop within these samples mutates the Scientist into a Fishman and he escapes the Rig into the Ocean.

The Foreman on the other hand wants to stop drilling, but with the arrival of The Executive , a representative of Ironhaven, they’re forced to continue excavating. The Foreman wants to abort the drilling as the goop is creating some very dangerous monsters , but his hands are tied because he doesn’t want to get fired.

Things escalate as the Fisherman is asked by the Foreman to sabotage the Iron Rigs defense system to allow the monsters in as an attempt to persuade the Executive to abandon the site. The defenses are turned off, and a massive tentacle monster attacks the Rig and starts tearing it apart.

However, this new interloper, like the Narwhal from Pale Reach, is ripped to shreds by the Leviathan as the Iron Rig starts to crumble into the sea. The Executive escapes on a helicopter , whilst the Foreman stays behind to make sure all of his crew can escape first before he leaves along with them.

Pale Reach and Iron Rig can be tackled before or after the main game , they have no major impact on the plot of the main story.

Dredge: All Hooded Figure Locations

5 best open-world games to play at night, nba 2k25: biggest improvements over 2k24, quick links, dredge: the iron rig – building upgrades explained, how and when to craft every building in dredge: the iron rig.

As players make their way through Dredge 's most recent DLC, " The Iron Rig ," they will unlock and upgrade a variety of facilities on the platform. Each new building will offer several new and improved items and abilities for your boat. When given this task in the game, many players will likely wonder which buildings they should upgrade first in The Iron Rig DLC. This guide will explain how upgrades work in Dredge's 'The Iron Rig' DLC , and provide players with a full list of requirements.

Find all of Dredge's mysterious Hooded Figures, and complete their quests.

In Dredge: The Iron Rig , players will interact with a modified offshore drilling platform, similar to a large offshore oil derrick. Instead of oil, this platform has been built by the Ironhaven Corporation to run a mysterious experiment, which the player becomes deeply involved in.

When first arriving at the eponymous Iron Rig, players will notice that there is not much to interact with, let alone upgrade. This is because the Iron Rig is meant to be built-up over time, as the main story progresses. Over the course of the main narrative, players will need to both construct and upgrade several new facilities on the platform. The order in which these new buildings are created is largely dictated by the story, and is not decided by the player. Here, we will list the order in which each structure will be built, so players will know what to expect, and when a desired Boat upgrade will become available.

Even though players do not have the freedom to build each structure when they want to, knowing the order and building requirements is still incredibly helpful. By knowing the required materials in advance, players can begin collecting them from the moment they begin 'The Iron Rig,' which will save them from a considerable amount of backtracking.

Complete Building List:

The first step to building The Iron Rig is to locate it. It is visible from nearly every point of the map, but just in case, players will find it between the Twisted Strand and the Devil's Spine , in the center or the north end of the map. Upon arrival, players will begin with their very first crafting requirements. The following list will start here, and go through to the end:

  • Upon docking at the Iron Rig for the first time, players will be introduced to the Ironhaven Crates . These lost supplies are essential to building and upgrading every new facility on the platform. Any time you encounter them floating in the sea, make sure to collect them.

The construction of each building and upgrade is triggered by the completion of a specific mission or story event. You will know when a building is ready for construction when the name box has a small, yellow triangle at the top.

Every task listed above represents the full list of building and upgrade projects in Dredge: The Iron Rig. It can be completed relatively quickly if players rush through it, but one of the true joys of Dredge is really taking the time to experience your surroundings. And even though this is the full list of construction projects, there is still a bit more to the story that players will uncover after fully constructing the Iron Rig .

Service History Fitz Simons & Connell Dredge No.6 is better known in modern times as Dredge #6 and sometimes mistakenly known as Dredge #906 . The 685-gross-ton crane dredge was fitted with a boom and a dipper, along with equipment for dredging purposes. The dredge had a steel hull and main deck along with a wooden superstructure, which protected certain machinery and equipment along with providing accommodations for the workers employed by the dredging company. This superstructure was not constructed to withstand rough weather on the open lake. It was intended for harbor, or some other safe refuge work. Final Voyage May 23, 1956. The Fitz Simons & Connell Dredge No. 6 , often known as Dredge #6 or Dredge #906 was under the command of Captain Martin Walsh and was engaged in dredging operations in Lake Michigan near the town of Oak Creek approximately eleven miles south of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 110-foot floating platform foundered as it was being towed to shelter amid 55 mph winds by the motor tug E. James Fucik . Late in the evening, the winds had increased to the point where it was decided to move to shelter in Milwaukee Harbor. Winds worsened, the dredge began to ship water and list. A guy wire holding up the dipper boom parted and soon the vessel capsized and sank. The sixteen foot, wooden yawl boat was not launched and as a result nine of the nineteen on board lost their lives most of whom drowned. The crew of the tug E. James Fucik suddenly noticed that the lights of the Dredge No.6 were gone and the tow line was angled down underwater. The tug managed to turn around and rescue thirteen of the crew of which, three didn't make it to the hospital. The Coast Guard investigation filed eight days later, found fault with Captain Walsh for not transferring the nineteen crew members to shore at Oak Creek and for ordering the dredge to be towed all the way to Milwaukee Harbor in rough weather. Today Today, the Dredge 906 rests upside down in about sixty feet of water. The hull rests on her crane and the bottom is made up of fine silt which is easily stirred up by divers. Remains include a massive crane, boiler, and the dredging machinery.
