Emirates builds unrivalled network with partners to reach over 800 cities

emirates airlines travel partners

On an average week, over 50,000 travellers connect to their destination of choice on codeshare or interline flights operated by Emirates’ many partners. The airline’s numerous partnerships developed over the years have helped fuel its growth, enabled frictionless connectivity for customers, bolstered loyalty reciprocity and tapped into unique markets that have generated new traffic flows.

While Emirates’ business strategy has always been to grow organically, its strategic partnerships like interline agreements and codeshares help to expand its global footprint, enabling the airline’s customers to reach places far beyond its own network. Emirates will continue evolve its partnership strategy by broadening many of its interline partnerships to full-fledged codeshare agreements, and strengthening its existing codeshares to build on its already industry-leading network position.

Since it signed its first interline agreement, Emirates’ global partner network has grown exponentially across Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East.

Today, the airline has 29 codeshare, 117 interline and 11 intermodal rail partners across the transport ecosystem in over 100 countries, delivering an array of travel choices through flexible schedules for travellers, and providing seamless connectivity, relevance and a network reach that extends to over 5,250 additional sectors covering over 800 cities. For example, in the Americas this means reaching cities beyond major airports, like Corpus Christi through United and Halifax with Air Canada. In Asia, travellers have strong connection opportunities to leisure points like Koi Samui in Thailand and Luang Prabang in Laos with partner Bangkok Airways. In Africa, South African Airways and Kenya Airways connect Emirates customers to an array of underserved points like Vilanculos, Kilanmanjaro, Juba, and Maputo. For customers of those airlines flying on Emirates, connecting to the carrier’s network of over 140 destinations through Dubai is easily within reach.

Customers can book connecting flights with the airline’s partners and enjoy the benefits of seamless single ticket itineraries, baggage transfers, frequent flyer benefits, lounge access, alongside other perks to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer said: “We have a long-standing history of partnerships that have reshaped the way people travel around the world. It’s a reflection of our commitment to providing our customers greater flexibility and confidence when planning their travel itineraries through leveraging the strength of our partners’ complementary route networks. It’s also helped to enhance Dubai’s connectivity to the world, providing direct and indirect links to over 800 cities, generating more tourism to our hub and boosting business and trade opportunities. These partnerships have also supported inbound tourism to over 100 countries through opening up connection opportunities and smoother journeys via the exclusively served points of our partners.  As we enter the next phase of growth for Emirates, codeshare and interline partnerships will be a critical component of our future success and a core part of our commercial strategy, and we’re working hard to develop them even further to offer a huge choice of onwards destinations for our customers.”

Last year, Emirates signed codeshare and interline agreements with 11 airlines. Besides the  cornerstone codeshare agreements with United Airlines and Air Canada, which expanded the airline’s connectivity to over 570 points in the Americas, Emirates also signed up with Airlink, Aegean Airlines, Air Tanzania, ITA Airways, Bamboo Airways, Batik Air, Philippine Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, and SKY Express, further expanding network choices it offers to customers. The airline also recently announced an interline agreement with Kenya Airways.

This year, Emirates is set to enter into new partnerships and deepen the level of cooperation on existing ones with airlines across East, South and Central Asia, Africa and Europe. The airline’s loyalty programme, Emirates Skywards and its freight division, Emirates SkyCargo also work closely with codeshare and interline partners to coordinate holistic partnerships that complement network and loyalty programme frameworks, boosting benefits for customers flying with both carriers and helping them reach new markets more efficiently. On the operational side, Emirates Airport Services play a pivotal role in helping make connectivity work seamlessly and enabling reciprocal lounge access for customers.

Across the airline’s network, strategic partnerships with over 140 airlines have boosted connectivity options for customers through expanding city pairs on a single ticket, in addition to integrating benefits in the loyalty space:

The Americas: Emirates customers travelling to the US have access to more than 200 U.S. cities in the United network, via Chicago, Houston or San Francisco. Travellers can also access dozens of destinations across Canada, Mexico, Caribbean islands and Central and South America. Customers journeying to Emirates’ extensive network beyond Dubai have a myriad of choices to unique destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia. Emirates’ partnership with Air Canada allows customers of both carriers to enjoy seamless connectivity to 232 points spanning three continents, including to destinations across the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.

Europe: Customers can connect on Emirates’ five codeshare partners including Air Malta, Air Baltic, Aegean Airlines, TAP Portugal and Siberia Airlines, and its 35 interline partners to reach more than 313 cities across the continent, including popular holiday destinations across the Mediterranean.  The airline’s rail partners in Germany, Spain and France provide on-ground connectivity for travellers to explore Europe on train, and connect seamlessly with Emirates on a single ticket.

Asia: Emirates’ already extensive Asian network is further bolstered through the airline’s nine codeshare partners ranging from Japan Airlines, Korean Air and Garuda, among others, reaching over 150 popular cities across Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Japan and the Philippines, as well as other popular tourist and business hotspots.

Australia: Often called one of the most seismic partnerships in the industry, the Emirates and Qantas relationship is one that jointly provides access to over 60 Australian destinations that Emirates does not fly to, while Qantas customers are able to fly on Emirates to Dubai and access over 65 cities in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa beyond Qantas’s existing international network.  Frequent flyers of both Emirates Skywards and Qantas Frequent Flyer can earn and redeem points travelling with both carriers and enjoy access to each airline’s lounges at airports all over the world.  The airline’s Jetstar partnership (a subsidiary of Qantas) also enables travellers to reach cities in Asia – all on one ticket.

Africa: Emirates’ footprint across Africa has expanded over the years to drive better connectivity and value for customers with more flight options to smaller regional points across the continent. Through its codeshares with South African Airways, Airlink, Royal Air Maroc, Tunis Air, and interlines with a dozen other regional carriers, the airline has expanded its reach to close to 130 regional points in Africa.

Middle East: The airline’s keystone partnership with flydubai has not only bolstered traffic flows in and out of its Dubai hub, but has also delivered enhanced connectivity to more than 215 destinations across 98 countries, and over 250 codeshare flights to choose from on an average day. Emirates customers can access more than 80 unique flydubai destinations; and flydubai passengers can access more than 100 Emirates destinations. In the last two years alone, the partnership has enabled over 2 million customers to travel on the joint networks of both carriers. The innovative partnership provides seamless connectivity at Dubai International Airport (DXB) between Terminals 2 and 3, baggage transfers on a single itinerary, as well as reciprocal loyalty benefits under the joint loyalty programme, Emirates Skywards.

About Emirates

Emirates skywards frequent flyer sign-up, how much emirates miles are worth, emirates skywards elite status tiers, how to earn emirates miles, how to redeem emirates miles, how to contact emirates, how long do emirates skywards points last, emirates skywards, recapped.

Have you seen those photos of ridiculously blinged-out airline seats? You know the ones: They often include flashy big-screen TVs, pop-up minibars, digital windows and seats so big you could melt right into them.

These luxurious cabins belong to Emirates, an international airline based in the United Arab Emirates. While the airline will happily sell you a ticket to fly in these seats, we’ve got another way.

In this guide to the airline’s loyalty program, Emirates Skywards, we'll show you how to gain elite status, earn miles and redeem them for those super-fancy seats — without even traveling to the Middle East.

Emirates isn’t all gold-hued seats and private cabins. It has all the regular cabins you’d expect from an airline, including economy class seating. Yet even Emirates economy class sets the bar high in terms of quality. Emirates was the first airline to introduce individual television screens in economy class (that was way back in 1992), and it continues to innovate with above-average ergonomic features and high-quality food and entertainment.

What the airline is really known for, however, is its ultra-exclusive first class products, which offer perks such as onboard showers, standing bars for business and first class travelers, and state-of-the-art, faux digital windows (in case you get a middle suite). The first class bathroom on the Emirates A380 aircraft even has heated floors.

Emirates operates four different cabins of service: economy , premium economy , business class and first class . Though, you won’t find each class of service on every flight since planes are configured differently. That's especially true of Emirates premium economy, which was only just announced in 2021 on a small set of routes, but has been rapidly expanding.

Main U.S. routes on Emirates

Emirates operates flights between its Dubai hub and the following U.S. cities:

Chicago-O’Hare.

Houston-Intercontinental.

Los Angeles.

New York-John F. Kennedy.

San Francisco.

Washington-Dulles.

The airline also flies between Newark and Athens, Greece, and between New York-John F. Kennedy and Milan. Historically these so-called “ fifth freedom ” routes have been an easy way to fly the airline for a relatively low number of miles compared with flying all the way to Dubai.

To sign up for the Skywards program, go to this page and complete the form. You’ll be given the option to receive promotional emails, which can be helpful to keep up with fare sales, new routes and the like.

NerdWallet values Emirates miles at 0.6 cent per point, as of our most recent analysis . In January 2023 the program increased its award pricing across the board for premium cabins, so you’ll want to make sure these miles still represent a good value to you.

To help you understand how much your Emirates Skywards miles are worth , we compared cash prices and reward redemptions for economy round-trip routes across several destinations and dates. We divided the cost of the cash ticket by the cost of the reward ticket to determine a “cent per mile” value for each flight, then averaged this value across several flights and dates.

Emirates has four elite tiers: Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Here’s what’s required to earn each status at a glance, along with some notable perks:

There are multiple ways to earn Emirates Skyward miles, from flying on Emirates and its partner airlines to using a transferable currency or holding an Emirates co-branded credit card. Here are all the ways you can increase your balance of Skyward miles.

Earning when you fly Emirates

Unlike most U.S. airlines, Emirates calculates earned miles based on distance flown and fare class, rather than the ticket cost. On top of that, as noted above, Silver members earn 30% bonus miles per flight, Gold members earn 75% and Platinum members earn 100%.

As a Blue member, here’s what you’d earn on a one-way flight between Miami and Dubai, for example:

Economy (saver level): 3,600 miles.

Business (saver level): 15,000 miles.

First: 30,000 miles.

Earning when you fly other airlines

Emirates lists more than a dozen airline partners through which you can earn miles through flying, including Air Canada (but no U.S. airlines at this time). You’ll earn up to 2 Skywards miles per mile flown on these partner airlines, as long as you choose to credit your flights to Emirates.

Earning Emirates miles with a credit card

Emirates launched two credit cards for U.S. travelers a few years ago, both issued through Barclays. The bonuses on these cards alone are enough to get you well on your way to an award flight.

The Emirates Skywards Premium World Elite Mastercard® charges a $499 annual fee and comes with the following:

Bonus offer: Earn 70,000 bonus Skywards Miles after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.

Earnings rate: 3 miles per dollar spent with Emirates, 2 miles per dollar spent on qualifying travel purchases and 1 mile per dollar on all other purchases.

Perks: Instant Gold status for a year, no foreign transaction fees, Priority Pass Select lounge access, fee waiver for Global Entry or TSA Precheck application and 10,000 anniversary miles.

Meanwhile, for a $99 annual fee, the Emirates Skywards Rewards World Elite Mastercard® includes:

Bonus offer: Earn 60,000 bonus Skywards Miles after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.

Perks: Instant Silver status for a year and no foreign transaction fees.

Transferable currencies to Emirates

Even if you don’t fly Emirates often or use its credit cards, their miles are relatively easy to rack up via transfer from major reward programs. Miles can be transferred on a 1:1 basis to Emirates from American Express Membership Rewards , Capital One Miles , Chase Ultimate Rewards ®, and Citi ThankYou rewards. You can also transfer on a 3:1 basis from Marriott Bonvoy , and at varying other rates from hotel partners, car rentals or Brex rewards .

Earning Emirates miles through partners

Rental cars: Earn 1 mile per dollar spent when booking a rental car through Emirates’ website via their partner CarTrawler.

Hotel stays: Earn up to 10,000 Skywards miles per night booking hotels through Emirates, and tack on 2,500 miles if you use a co-branded Emirates credit card to do so. There can be additional bonus offers available too. You can also earn miles staying at a variety of hotel chains.

Shopping portals: Earn miles with every dollar spent at over 1,000 stores through the Emirates Skywards mall.

Other partners: Emirates has a number of other partnerships with which you can earn miles, including cabs, a rideshare service and the Dubai Mall.

Pooling Emirates miles

Emirates allows you to create a family account of up to eight members, including yourself. You can credit 100% of reward miles earned by family members to this account.

Buying, gifting or transferring Emirates miles

Emirates lets you buy or gift miles, to the tune of $30 per 1,000 miles up to a maximum of 100,000 to 200,000 miles per year, based on your elite tier level. You can also transfer miles for $15 per 1,000 miles, up to 50,000 miles per year.

» Learn more: 5 sweet spots for Emirates miles

Emirates doesn’t publish an award chart for its own flights, but the airline makes it pretty easy to figure out how many miles a flight will cost. Use the airline’s mileage calculator to select your city pairs, then click “calculate.” On the results page, select the “spend” tab to see how many miles the itinerary costs.

Beware that Emirates will also levy surcharges on its own flights — sometimes hundreds of dollars.

When booking flights, you’ll have the option to pay with a combination of cash and miles. This can significantly knock down the cash price of a flight, so it’s worth checking out if you have a specific itinerary in mind and don’t have enough miles for a reward ticket.

Good Emirates redemption options

Award flights to Europe: The most competitive use of Emirates miles for most American travelers is on the airline’s flights between the U.S. and Europe. Here’s what you’ll pay to fly between New York-John F. Kennedy and Milan in one direction in the airline’s premium cabins:

emirates airlines travel partners

Similar rates typically apply to the airline’s other U.S.-to-Europe route, between Newark and Athens.

These are solid rates compared with other rewards programs, especially considering you’re paying for an experience you won’t get on most other airlines flying between the U.S. and Europe. Flights on the A380 like the one above, for example, feature an on-board lounge for first class and business class passengers and private showers for those in first class.

Just make sure to factor in the added costs of any connecting flight you’d have to take.

» Learn more: How to book Emirates first class with points

If you’re flying between Europe and Dubai and want to do so in the highest possible style, try to snag one of Emirates’ newer 777s with a first class cabin featuring just six seats that are enclosed from floor to ceiling. The two middle seats include digital windows that project images from cameras outside of the plane in real time. As of this writing, the planes generally fly between Dubai and the following European cities: Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, London-Stansted, Nice and Zurich.

Partner redemptions: You can sometimes find good value in redeeming Skywards miles on partner airlines. Emirates isn’t a part of any of the major airline alliances, but you can see the airlines they partner with here , along with distance-based award charts for flying on each airline.

Award upgrades: Once you’ve booked a flight in cash, you can use your miles to upgrade to the next available class of service, assuming seats are available. Depending on how good a deal your cash ticket was, this can sometimes be a cheap way to upgrade your experience.

Free stopovers: Depending on the award fare booked, getting an extended stopover (more than 24 hours) in Dubai may be possible without using extra miles. These aren’t always bookable online so if it’s something you’re interested in, you’ll want to call in and ask.

Bad Emirates redemption options

Award flights to Dubai and beyond: Unfortunately, pretty much any Emirates flight between the U.S. and the carrier’s hub in Dubai, and onward, will cost you. Flying one way from Los Angeles to the Emirati capital in business class, you’ll owe a whopping 157,500 miles plus over $800 in surcharges:

emirates airlines travel partners

But note that flying economy knocks off most of the surcharges, as in this example between Washington-Dulles and Dubai:

emirates airlines travel partners

Use the airline’s mileage calculator to plug in other examples of your choosing. Just remember to click “calculate,” then “spend” to see how much the itinerary costs.

Non-flight redemptions: You can use your Emirates miles to book hotels or special events directly, but these generally represent a poor value. If you have limited miles to burn, the Emirates store allows you to purchase airline merchandise with miles.

Other ways to redeem miles for Emirates flights

If Emirates miles are difficult to come by, you can book their flights through a variety of other airline programs, including Air Canada’s Aeroplan , Japan Airlines’ Mileage Bank and Qantas Frequent Flyer. Availability generally isn’t as good as when booking directly through Emirates. Be sure to watch out for potentially hefty surcharges.

» Learn more: Your guide to airline bonus point promotions

Emirates’ U.S. phone number is 1-800-777-3999. In addition, you can access the airline via live chat, or contact them through Facebook or Twitter.

Miles expire three years after they are earned or transferred, unless you have Platinum status, in which case they never expire. Additionally, Emirates lets you pay to extend any miles that are set to expire in the next three months. You can extend them for 12 months beyond their original expiration date.

It can be surprisingly easy to rack up miles with the Emirates Skywards program, especially given their many transfer partners. Whether you’re looking to redeem those miles for an economy-class experience or one of their famous premium cabins, you have plenty of solid options to do so.

How to maximize your rewards

No annual fee: Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card

United and Emirates Team Up to Offer New Connections, Perks, and a Direct U.S.-Dubai Flight

It'll be easier than ever for their passengers to travel the globe thanks to this new partnership.

emirates airlines travel partners

Courtesy of United Airlines

United Airlines and Emirates announced a strategic partnership on Wednesday that greatly expands the reach of both carriers.

Starting in November, Emirates passengers flying into Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco — three of United's largest hubs — will be able to connect to more than 200 cities in the United States via United, all on one ticket, according to the announcement. Passengers flying into the eight other U.S. airports serviced by Emirates, including LAX and JFK , will be serviced by an interline agreement.

In March 2023, United will also inaugurate a nonstop flight between Newark and Dubai from which passengers will be able to travel onward to more than 100 destinations via Emirates or its sister airline, Flydubai — again, all on one ticket.

"Emirates fliers will gain greater access to destinations across the U.S., while United will have more accessible routes in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, as Emirates is already well established in those parts of the world," ValuePenguin travel expert Sophia Mendel told Travel + Leisure of the partnership

Frequent fliers with elite status on the airlines will also benefit from the pairing.

"United MileagePlus members flying on United's Newark/New York to Dubai flight can soon earn and redeem miles when connecting beyond on Emirates and Flydubai and Emirates Skywards members will be able to earn miles when they travel on United operated flights," according to a press release. "Eligible United customers will also soon have access to Emirates lounges when connecting to and from United's new Dubai flight."

The partnership is an interesting turn of events, as the big three carriers in the U.S. — United, Delta, and American — lobbied against the expansion of Gulf carriers in the country for the majority of the last decade, The New York Times reported. They claimed the airlines were receiving unfair subsidies from the U.S. government, and thus ended any existing relationships with them.

But JetBlue bucked the trend, partnering with both Etihad Airways and Emirates in 2012. (JetBlue and Emirates will end their partnership on October 30 in light of the United deal — JetBlue is aligned with American Airlines.) Then, according to Reuters, after tensions simmered down in 2018, American Airlines entered a codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways in 2020, and now United has followed suit with Emirates.

The next big question is whether or not this partnership might indicate Emirates' intention to join Star Alliance, to which United also belongs.

"As of right now, it’s still too soon to tell," Mendel said. "It may be that this agreement is the farthest Emirates will take things. Only time will tell."

In the meantime, United and Emirates passengers can simply enjoy the convenience of this new partnership.

Dubai-based Emirates offers some of the most highly regarded airline experiences in the world. Whether you’re flying in economy or its ultra-luxurious first class, Emirates offers a distinctive experience and has established itself as arguably the preeminent brand in all of commercial aviation.

In the 35+ years since its first flight, Emirates has expanded its route network across the globe from its hub in Dubai (DXB). With its central location and over-the-top destination airport for duty-free shopping, Emirates is the airline of choice for many world travelers.

However, the Emirates Skywards loyalty program has some major drawbacks, especially compared to many other airline programs. The program has undergone some significant devaluations over the years. However, its miles can provide great value when redeemed correctly. Emirates Skywards are also relatively easy to earn thanks to the program’s transfer partners.

This guide will provide an overview of the Emirates Skywards program, explain how to book awards with Skywards miles and discuss some of the best ways to redeem miles.

While it’s fairly easy to earn Emirates Skywards , the booking process for award flights can be challenging to understand, which is why we made some how-to booking guides! See one of the following guides for help booking Emirates flights with miles:

  • Booking First Class Award Flights With Emirates
  • Booking Business Class Award Flights With Emirates

Emirates Skywards Award Ticket Costs

First and foremost, Emirates is not a member of one of the 3 major airline alliances. However, Emirates does have partnerships with individual airlines.

Some of these partner airlines include Air Canada, Bangkok Airways, Copa Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, and Qantas, among others. This means you can redeem Emirates Skywards miles for partner awards.

However, Emirates Skywards miles can also be used by flights operated by Emirates, of course. Unfortunately, Emirates does not publish an award chart for its flights. Instead, you’ll need to use the Miles Calculator on the Emirates website to price specific routes.

The calculator does not show taxes and fees, which are quite high with Emirates. These fees can be upwards of $2,000 on some routes , in addition to the mileage requirement.

Emirates has 4 types of awards: Special, Saver, Flex, and Flex Plus. Special and Saver fares typically cost fewer miles. However, Flex and Flex Plus fares have more award availability .

When booking award flights with Emirates, you can pay with a combination of cash and miles. This can be a great way to save money on a cash fare or an alternative way to book an award if you do not have enough miles.

Although Emirates is not a member of one of the 3 major airline alliances, it does have partnerships with individual airlines.

As mentioned above, paying with a combination of cash and miles is possible. With Cash+Miles, you have the flexibility to access any Emirates seat . Although you can book any seat with this method, these typically do not bring value to your points. However, if you do not have the miles needed for an award ticket, this provides a different way to book an Emirates ticket.

You can also use Emirates Skywards miles to upgrade paid tickets. Prices are determined by route and ticket type. Upgrades begin at just 7,020 Skyward miles. You can use the Emirates Miles Calculator to find out exactly how many miles are needed.

Most tickets can be upgraded in advance, and you may also have the opportunity at check-in or even upon boarding. There are some exceptions to upgrades. You can find more information about Emirates upgrades here .

Exceptions are:

  • Business Class Saver Fare tickets: must upgrade at least 6 hours before departure
  • Economy Class Saver Fare tickets: can only be upgraded at check-in (online or at the airport) or upon boarding

Emirates has some incredibly long flights — once you board and see your seat for the next 15 hours, you may be in the mood to splurge on an upgrade!

Changes and Cancellations

Emirates Skywards has reasonable award fees, however, they vary depending on the type of award you booked:

  • No close-in award booking fee
  • Date change: $0 for Flex Plus/Flex tickets and $25 elsewhere
  • Destination change: $0 for Flex Plus/Flex tickets and up to $25 + any fare changes for Saver tickets
  • Refund: $0 for unused Flex Plus tickets, $50 for Flex tickets in first class, and $75 for Saver tickets

Emirates Skywards Partner Award Ticket Costs

You can redeem Skywards miles on Emirates’ partner airlines. Emirates partners include:

Unlike flights operated by Emirates, the Emirates Skywards program has a published distance-based award chart for partner airline redemptions .

Taxes and fees on partner airline redemptions are generally much lower than on Emirates flights as you are not subject to Emirates’ high carrier-imposed surcharges.

Using a different airline’s search program can save you time when searching for partner award space. Check out our Ultimate Guide to Searching for Flight Award Space .

Mileage Expiration

Emirates Skywards miles are valid for at least 3 years from the date earned . This is not exactly 3 years — in the third year, the miles expire at the end of your birth month.

Unlike many airlines, regular mileage earnings do not extend mileage validity. As a last-ditch effort, you can pay to extend Skywards miles for another 12 months at a rate of $20 per 1,000 miles .

Emirates Skywards is a transfer partner of several credit card points programs. These include Bilt Rewards , Chase Ultimate Rewards , American Express Membership Rewards ,   Citi ThankYou Rewards , and Capital One Miles at a 1:1 ratio, or from Marriott Bonvoy at a transfer rate of 3:1. We’ve searched far and wide to find some great redemptions with Emirates Skywards. The following are some of the best ways to use Emirates miles.

Emirates does have some restrictions on one-way bookings with certain fares. Generally, most Emirates one-way flights are significantly more expensive than half of a round-trip flight , so it’s always better to book round-trip flights if you have the necessary balance.

When booking one-way flights, you’ll only be able to book the Flex Plus  awards, which will be the highest in cost. The silver lining with Flex Plus bookings is that they are the most flexible types of tickets, meaning you can cancel and change your tickets without any fees.

On the other hand, round-trip flights are always a better deal cost-wise, though you may have to pay a cancellation or change fee .

1. Book a Flight in Emirates First Class

Emirates New 777-300ER First Class Suites

Let’s start with the aspirational bucket-list experience for many points and miles travelers: Emirates First Class. Whether you’re flying on the Boeing 777-300ER or the Airbus A380, you are bound to have an excellent experience. Emirates routinely makes the list of the best international first class airlines .

Emirates has much to offer in first class, from inflight showers to fully enclosed suites.

Award space tends to be quite random. However, some routes have decent availability when booked further out. Meanwhile, some routes can be booked a few days before departure.

Here are some great example routes that you can fly with Emirates in first class (beware — routes may change without advance notice):

  • Brussels (BRU) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 102,000 Emirates miles
  • New York (JFK) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 163,500 Emirates miles
  • Geneva (GVA) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 102,000 Emirates miles
  • Tokyo (NRT) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 141,000 Emirates miles

However, if this is too many miles for a single redemption, you can fly Emirates first class on short-haul flights, including:

  • Kuwait City (KWI) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 34,500 Emirates miles
  • Riyadh (RUH) – Dubai (DXB) one-way for 34,500 Emirates miles

2. Fly New York to Milan Nonstop and Round-Trip on Emirates

Emirates First Class A380 Seat

Emirates flies an incredible-value nonstop fifth-freedom route between New York (JFK) and Milan (MXP). This is an easily accessible redemption opportunity for those in North America.

For only 45,000/108,000/204,000 miles in economy/business/first round-trip, you can experience Emirates service between the U.S. and Europe. One-way costs are 38,750/87,000/102,000 miles in economy/business/first.

This award pricing clearly shows how booking round-trip awards with Emirates can provide more value . In addition, the taxes and fees are significantly less than those for flying between the U.S. and Dubai.

Note that you cannot redeem for any other Emirates U.S.-to-Europe-award that would require transit in Dubai . The Miles Calculator will show award pricing, but Emirates will not allow you to book them.

Emirates also offers another fifth-freedom route between Newark (EWR) and Athens (ATH). However, this route is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER. The distinction must be made as the 777-300ER has a vastly inferior business class cabin.

3. Portugal to Morocco, Madeira, or the Azores on TAP Air Portugal

TAP Air Portugal economy

One Emirates partner is Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal. Although the distance-based partner award chart is expensive for long-haul flights, it also provides some excellent redemptions on shorter flights .

For example, you can book one-way flights under 250 miles in distance for 8,000 Skywards miles in economy or 16,000 miles in business. One-way flights under 500 miles on TAP Air Portugal are bookable for 10,000 Emirates miles in economy or 20,000 miles in business. This means you can get from mainland Portugal to Northern Africa (Morocco) and Spain for a reasonable amount of miles.

If you want to shell out a bit more, you can fly one-way from Portugal to Madeira or the Azores for only 14,000 miles in economy or 28,000 miles in business. These can be expensive flights, so using miles can provide excellent value.

4. Fly to Seychelles Round-Trip on Emirates

Seychelles Beach

Seychelles is an island paradise far in the Indian Ocean . Only a handful of airlines fly to Seychelles (SEZ), and Emirates is one of them and arguably the best.

From eastern North America, round-trip flights are 85,000/174,000/327,000 in economy/business/first. One-way flights are 73,750/138,000/163,500 miles in economy/business/first.

Award pricing from Western North America is slightly more at 90,000/198,000/372,000 round-trip. If you’re looking for one-way bookings between western North America and Seychelles, you’ll pay 78,750/157,500/186,000 miles in economy/business/first.

5. Fly in the Utmost Luxury to the Maldives Round-Trip on Emirates

Beach in the Maldives

With the Emirates Skywards program, award pricing for getting to the Maldives (MLE) from North America is similar to flying to the Seychelles.

Round-trip flights from eastern North America are priced at 85,000/180,000/327,000 in economy/business/first. One-way flights from eastern North America to the Maldives are 73,750/138,000/163,500 miles in economy/business/first.

Western North America is priced slightly higher at 90,000/198,000/372,000. If you want to book one-way flights between western North America and the Maldives, expect to pay 78,750/157,500/186,000 miles in economy/business/first.

6. Down to South Africa on Emirates

Cape Town Waterfront

Cape Town, South Africa, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world . However, it is also quite far from the U.S. A few airlines operate nonstop flights between the U.S. and South Africa — best of all, you can use Emirates Skywards miles to get there.

From eastern North America, round-trip flights are priced at 95,000/190,000/357,500 miles in economy/business/first. If you prefer one-way flights, expect to redeem 82,500/151,250/178,750 miles in economy/business/first.

Western North America is only slightly more expensive; you’ll pay 100,000/200,000/375,000 miles for round-trip flights in economy/business/first class. One-way flights will be more expensive than half a round-trip: 87,500/158,750/187,500 miles in economy/business/first class.

7. Safari in Kenya or Tanzania on Emirates

South Africa Safari

Kenya and Tanzania are justifiably the most famous safari destinations in the world. Seek out the annual Great Migration in person by flying on Emirates to Nairobi (NBO) or Dar Es Salaam (DAR).

Round-trip flights from eastern North America are priced at 85,000/174,000/327,000 in economy/business/first. One-way awards are priced at 73,750/138,000/163,500 miles in economy/business/first.

Flights from western North America are slightly higher at 90,000/198,000/372,000 miles. You’ll redeem 78,750/157,500/186,000 miles in economy/business/first with one-way tickets.

8. Dubai to Perth on Emirates

Burn Beach Western Australia

Perth (PER) is the gateway to Western Australia’s towering forests and spectacular diving . When flying between North America and Australia, you typically cross the Pacific Ocean. However, you can also fly on Emirates with a stop in Dubai.

Round-trip flights from eastern North America cost 115,000/260,000/489,000 in economy/business/first class. If you paid for one-way tickets, expect to shell out 100,000/207,500/244,500 miles in economy/business/first class.

Round-trip flights from western North America are slightly more expensive: 120,000/280,000/525,000 in economy/business/first. Meanwhile, one-way tickets are 105,000/222,500/262,500 miles in economy/business/first.

9. Indian Ocean Island Hopping on Air Mauritius

lemurs

Air Mauritius, an Emirates partner, offers excellent value when redeeming Emirates Skywards miles .

The lemurs of Madagascar are one of the great wildlife encounters in the world, but getting to Madagascar is not easy! A creative option is to stop in Mauritius (MRU) and then continue on Emirates partner Air Mauritius.

From the island nation of Mauritius, you can fly in economy to Réunion (RUN) for 16,000 miles round-trip, to Rodrigues (RRG) for 20,000 miles round-trip, or to Antananarivo, Madagascar (TNR) for just 28,000 miles round-trip!

This is an excellent redemption as cash fares between the islands can be expensive.

10. Hong Kong to Bangkok on Emirates

Emirates Inaugural World's Shortest A380 First Class Window Suite Cherag Dubash

If you want to try first class on the A380, you can do so without paying a mileage premium. Emirates operates a fifth-freedom route between Bangkok (BKK) and Hong Kong (HKG) that can be booked using Skywards miles.

Although the 3-hour flight is relatively short, it still provides an opportunity to fly one of the best products in the sky. This round-trip flight is only 20,000/48,000/90,000 in economy/business/first. One-way tickets are 17,500/39,000/45,000 miles in economy/business/first.

11. Japan to Australia or Hawaii on Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines Boeing 777 300ER First Class Bed

The Emirates distance-based partner award chart is typically not the best for long-haul flights. However, a sweet spot is Japan Airlines flights between Tokyo and Australia or Hawaii .

Partner award pricing depends on the total distance flown. According to the award chart, flights between Hawaii and Tokyo fall in Zone 6, priced at 32,000 miles one-way in economy or 77,500 miles one-way in business.

Meanwhile, flights between Sydney and Tokyo cost 38,000 miles one-way in economy or 92,500 miles one-way in business.

12. South Korean Domestic Flights Including Jeju Island on Korean Air

Jeju Island

The Emirates partner award chart for Korean Air also has some sweet spots. You can book domestic Korean Air award flights for as few as 8,000 miles for a one-way flight in economy if the distance flown is less than 250 miles. One-way flights between 251 and 500 miles in length cost 10,000/20,000 in economy/business.

You can use that bargain award to visit Korea’s honeymoon retreat, Jeju Island (CJU), to see 4 seasons of spectacular nature. For just 10,000 miles one-way, this is a great redemption.

13. Book Korean Air Business Class from the U.S. to Korea

Korean Air business class

Another solid redemption using Emirates miles for Korean Air is on business class flights between the U.S. and Korea. You can book a one-way business class flight between Seoul and Hawaii for 92,500 miles!

If you’re traveling between Korea and West Coast destinations like San Francisco (SFO) or Seattle (SEA) , a one-way business class flight costs 105,000 miles. This is still an excellent deal, considering it’s one of the cheapest options for booking Korean Air awards between the U.S. and Korea .

It is worth noting that there is inconsistent award availability . However, this is a redemption worth considering if you can find the award space. Here are some great example routes you can take:

  • Honolulu (HNL ) – Seoul (ICN ) round-trip in Korean Air business class for 185,000 Emirates miles
  • San Francisco (SFO ) – Seoul (ICN) round-trip in Korean Air business class for 210,000 Emirates miles

14. Fly TAP Air Portugal Business Class Round-Trip Between the U.S. and Portugal

TAP Air Portugal A330-900neo Business Class

Another solid redemption is for long-haul award flights on Emirates’ partner TAP Air Portugal. With a robust network connecting Portugal to popular destinations throughout Europe and the rest of the world, it’s worth looking at optimizing flight awards so you get the best value for your Emirates miles.

TAP Air Portugal operates a decent long-haul flight network. Importantly, it operates many nonstop flights between Portugal and the U.S. through its 2 largest airports: Lisbon (LIS) and Porto (OPO).

If you want to fly nonstop from the East Coast to Portugal, you can expect to pay 64,000 miles round-trip in economy and 155,000 miles round-trip in business class. Flights between other U.S. destinations will be a bit pricier due to the distance-based award chart for Emirates partner airlines.

This could be of great value, particularly for TAP Air Portugal’s longer flights to the U.S. Here are some great example routes you can book:

  • Newark (EWR) – Porto (OPO) round-trip in TAP Air Portugal business class for 155,000 miles + taxes and fees
  • Chicago (ORD) – Lisbon (LIS) round-trip in TAP Air Portugal business class for 185,000 miles + taxes and fees
  • Miami (MIA) – Lisbon (LIS) round-trip in TAP Air Portugal business class for 185,000 miles + taxes and fees
  • San Francisco (SFO) – Lisbon (LIS) round-trip in TAP Air Portugal business class for 210,000 miles + taxes and fees

Although the Emirates Skywards loyalty program has been devalued several times over the years, its miles are still useful on certain routes with Emirates and its partners.

Emirates Skywards miles do not provide nearly as much value compared to other programs. Still, Emirates offers one of the best business and first class products of any airline and Skywards miles can allow you to book these once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

While these are what we think are the best ways to use Emirates miles, there are certainly other options available. Happy redeeming!

Emirates operates direct services from its Dubai hub to both Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). When traveling with Emirates to or from the two Canadian cities, passengers can connect to train services operated by VIA Rail when booked as one itinerary.

Montréal-Trudeau International Airport has the convenience of its own rail station, while passengers at Toronto Pearson International Airport will need to connect to services at Toronto Union train station. The following cities are available to be booked as part of an Emirates itinerary:

  • To/from Toronto Union Station - Ottawa, Montreal, Montreal Airport, Kingston, London, and Windsor
  • To/from Montreal Airport station - Kingston, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Toronto.

Spain - Renfe

Emirates currently flies twice per day from Dubai (DXB) to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), and twice per day to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN). Barcelona is also the stopping point for the carrier's unique one-stop service between Dubai and Mexico City (MEX), on which Emirates has fifth-freedom rights to carry passengers on both legs of the route. Flights operate with the following schedule:

Passengers traveling to and from Madrid or Barcelona with Emirates can take advantage of journeys on Spain's national train operator, Renfe, as part of their itinerary. However, Renfe does not operate direct services from the two largest airports in Spain to other destinations nationwide, meaning that passengers must first connect at either Atocha or Chamartín stations in Madrid, or at Sants station in Barcelona.

From these downtown stations, services are available across the country. Renfe trains will either have an EK flight number between 3090 and 3149 or a 9B flight number between 4000 and 4999. Destinations include:

  • Santiago de Compostela
  • Málaga

Italy - trenitalia.

Italy has a wide-reaching and efficient rail network, covering the length of the country from north to south. Passengers flying with Emirates to or from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) can include a domestic train journey as part of their booking. As well as plenty of trains from Roma Termini station in downtown Rome, Trenitalia also offers convenient direct services from Fiumicino Airport to destinations across the country, including

  • Milano Centrale
  • Lamezia Terme Centrale
  • Firenze Sant Maria Novella
  • Torino Porto Nuova
  • Reggio di Calabria Centrale.

Eligible Trenitalia trains can be identified by an EK flight number between 3170 and 3195 or a 9B flight number between 7300 and 7999. Passengers who miss their train due to a delayed flight arrival can use their ticket on the next available service, although the onboard train manager may need to change their seat reservations in such cases.

UK - Heathrow Express, Great Western Rail, First Transpennine Express, and National Express

Passengers traveling on Emirates to and from the three largest airports in the UK can include eligible train and coach journeys as part of their itinerary:

  • London Heathrow Airport (LHR) - Heathrow Express trains to central London, Great Western Railway trains across the UK, and National Express coaches across the UK
  • London Gatwick Airport (LGW) - Great Western Railway trains across the UK and National Express coaches across the UK
  • Manchester Airport (MAN) - First Transpennine Express trains across the UK and National Express coaches across the UK.

Emirates also has partnerships with the following rail operators across Europe:

  • Germany - Deutsche Bahn when flying to/from Frankfurt Airport (FRA)
  • Austria - ÖBB when flying to/from Vienna International Airport (VIE)
  • Sweden - SJ Swedish Rail when flying to/from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)
  • Belgium - SNC Belgian Railways when flying to/from Brussels Airport (BRU) and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
  • Switzerland - Swiss Federal Railways when flying to/from Zurich Airport (ZRH) and Geneva Airport (GVA).

100,000+ Daily Transits: Where Do Emirates' Connecting Passengers Go?

Emirates is not the only carrier to team up with local train operators in order to offer passengers an extended route network and simple booking on the same itinerary. For example, United Airlines partners with Amtrak on services between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to New Haven, Philadelphia, Stamford, and Wilmington. American Airlines , meanwhile, offers connections between Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Brussels on high-speed trains operated by Thalys.

Should you transfer hotel points to airline partners?

Rachel Craft

Hotel rewards programs often partner with airlines, allowing you to convert your hotel points to airline miles. This gives you more redemption options, but is it a good use of your points?

As with most things in the points and miles world, the answer is: It depends. Airline partners and transfer ratios vary from one hotel program to the next, as do the values of points and miles . We'll cover some of the most common hotel loyalty programs and why you should — or shouldn't — transfer those points to airline partners.

Should you transfer Marriott points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

Marriott Bonvoy has 39 airline transfer partners, and you can transfer as few as 3,000 points. Points transfer to most airlines at a ratio of 3:1, plus for some transfers, you'll get 5,000 bonus miles for every 60,000 points you transfer (10,000 bonus miles with United Airlines).

These ratios aren't ideal, even though most airline miles are valued higher than Marriott Bonvoy points.

For example, let's say you have 60,000 points in your Bonvoy account. Since TPG values Marriott points at 0.85 cents each, these are worth $510. If you transfer them to United MileagePlus , the 3:1 ratio will give you 20,000 miles plus 10,000 bonus miles, for a total of 30,000 miles. TPG values United miles at 1.35 cents each, so your miles are now worth only $405.

But maybe United miles are more useful to you than Marriott Bonvoy points, especially if you are not planning to use your points at any Marriott properties in the near future. Maybe you're planning to fly United and need to top off your account. Only you can decide how best to use your points, and transferring Marriott points to airlines is an option worth considering.

However, keep in mind that most points and miles transfers are irreversible. Always wait until you have a redemption in mind before transferring your points.

Should you transfer Hilton points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

Hilton Honors partners with 26 airlines, and the transfer ratio for most is 10,000 Hilton points to 1,000 miles. Qantas Frequent Flyer is slightly better at 10,000:1,500, but that's still pretty dismal.

To see an airline's transfer ratio, you must first enter your frequent flyer account number and link it to your Hilton Honors account. Here are the ratios for some common airlines:

Using the same example from before, if you had 60,000 Hilton points (which TPG values at 0.6 cents each), they would be worth a total of $360. If you transferred them to United, you would end up with 6,000 miles, worth a measly $81. That's a loss of over 75% in value.

We think there are better ways to redeem Hilton Honors points . But if you have points that are about to expire and no short-term travel plans near a Hilton property, transferring can prevent them from going to waste.

Should you transfer IHG points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

IHG One Rewards offers 38 airline transfer partners. For most, you'll get 2,000 airline miles for every 10,000 IHG points you transfer. Here are some of the transfer ratios for popular airlines.

This means if you transferred 60,000 IHG points to United MileagePlus, your IHG points (worth $300 at TPG's valuation of 0.5 cents apiece) would become 12,000 United miles (worth $162) — almost a 50% drop in value.

On top of the poor transfer ratio, IHG's points transfer process is more difficult than most. You can't do it online; you have to call the service center and wait two to three weeks for your miles to post.

This isn't a redemption option we recommend. You're better off putting your hard-earned points toward award stays, where you can get a fourth night free . But if you have IHG points you can't use before they expire, transferring them to airlines or other IHG One Rewards members could make sense.

Should you transfer Choice points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

Choice Privileges has 10 airline partners; points transfer to most at a ratio of 5,000:1,000. So you could convert 60,000 Choice points (worth $360 at TPG's valuation of 0.6 cents each) into 12,000 United miles (worth $162).

You can transfer points to nine of these airlines online at Choice's Rewards Exchange page; miles take up to 24 hours to post. To transfer to Spirit Airlines, you must call customer service and wait two to six weeks for your miles to be deposited into your account. You must have a minimum of 5,000 points to initiate a transfer, and you must transfer points in increments of 1,000.

This isn't the best way to maximize your Choice points , but it could be useful if you're short a few miles for an airline redemption.

Should you transfer Hyatt points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

World of Hyatt members can transfer points to 25 airline partners at a rate of 2.5:1 for most partners. You must have at least 5,000 points to transfer to get started, and any additional points transferred can be converted in 1,250-point increments. For every 50,000 points you transfer, you'll get a bonus of 5,000 miles. Here are some well-known airline programs that partner with Hyatt.

This is one of the best hotel-to-airline transfer ratios, but it's still not the best use of your points.

At 1.7 cents each, Hyatt points are valued higher than most airline miles, so you lose significant value in the transfer process. Using the previous example, 60,000 Hyatt points would be worth $1,020 when used on Hyatt stays. If you transfer them to United, you'll end up with 24,000 United miles, worth only $324. Another downside: Transfers take six to eight weeks.

We think you're better off using your Hyatt points on Hyatt stays. World of Hyatt is known as the most award-friendly hotel program , in part because it still uses an award chart instead of dynamic pricing. But if you have Hyatt points that are set to expire or you need a few extra miles for an airline redemption, it could make sense to transfer.

Should you transfer Accor points to airline partners?

emirates airlines travel partners

Accor Live Limitless may not be the most well-known hotel loyalty program, but its points are among the most valuable at 2 cents each. It also has a surprisingly strong airline transfer system.

Accor offers 31 airline transfer partners. Most transfer at a 2:1 ratio, but a few transfer at a 1:1 ratio. Here are some of the most popular airline transfer partner programs.

You could transfer 60,000 Accor points (worth $1,200) into 30,000 United miles (worth $405). But if you transferred to Flying Blue instead, you'd get 60,000 miles (worth $720). You'd lose some value, but you could end up booking a Flying Blue Promo Reward flight from the U.S. to Europe for just 15,000 miles.

As with World of Hyatt, Accor Live Limitless points are worth more when used on Accor hotel stays. But if you're short on miles to book your next award flight and your airline of choice has a favorable transfer ratio, it may be worth turning your Accor points into miles.

Best credit cards for earning hotel points

emirates airlines travel partners

No matter how you decide to redeem your hotel points, a great way to earn more of them is through cobranded credit cards. Here are several options that not only earn extra points on hotel stays but also offer sizable welcome bonuses.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card : Earn three free night awards (valued at up to 50,000 points each) after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening. Earn up to 17 total points per dollar on Marriott hotel purchases, plus get automatic Silver Elite status.
  • Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card : Earn 130,000 bonus points plus a free night reward after you spend $3,000 on purchases within your first six months of card membership. Earn 12 points per dollar on purchases made with Hilton and enjoy complimentary Gold status.
  • IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card : Earn 140,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 on purchases within your first three months of account opening. Earn up to 26 total points per dollar on IHG purchases, a free night each card anniversary and Platinum Elite status.
  • Choice Privileges® Select Mastercard® (see rates and fees ): Earn 60,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months. Earn 10 points per dollar on Choice purchases, 30,000 bonus points every account anniversary and automatic Platinum Elite status.
  • World of Hyatt Credit Card : Earn up to 60,000 bonus points: 30,000 after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening, plus up to 30,000 more by earning 2 points per dollar spent in the first six months on purchases that normally earn 1 point per dollar (on up to $15,000 spent). Earn up to 9 total points per dollar on Hyatt purchases, a Category 1-4 free night award for each account anniversary and complimentary Discoverist status.

Bottom line

In general, transferring hotel points to airlines isn't the best use of your points. You can get better value from your points by using them for hotel stays. However, there are some cases where it might make sense to transfer.

If you've accumulated a few points in a hotel loyalty account that you never plan to use, and your points are about to expire, transferring them to airline partners can prevent them from going to waste. In this situation, you could also donate your points to charity .

Or, if you're short on miles for an award ticket and you have a stash of hotel points lying around, you may want to transfer them to top off your airline account.

Although transferring hotel points to airlines doesn't provide the best value, it's a nice option to have.

Emirates joins IATA’s Turbulence Aware Platform, becomes first airline to integrate flight data for real-time accuracy with Lido mPilot from Lufthansa Systems

Latest tools place airline at the forefront of turbulence detection and navigation

Global turbulence data gets massive boost with contributions from Emirates’ global network

DUBAI, UAE, 30 May 2024: Emirates has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Turbulence Aware Platform. It will also be the first airline to integrate the IATA platform within the latest version of Lido mPilot, the mobile navigation solution from Lufthansa Systems.

Bringing these platforms together offers a wealth of data, combined with new technologies that make up-to-the-minute, highly accurate turbulence information and forecasts available for pilots, equipping them with the means to plot the best paths around affected areas for enhanced safety, efficient navigation, and optimisation of flight plans.

In conjunction with the IATA Turbulence Aware Platform, the airline has equipped more than 140 aircraft with the required onboard software to automatically share turbulence reports with all airlines contributing data to the platform. All new aircraft joining the Emirates fleet over the course of the next few years, such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777-9, 777-8 and B787, will be enabled to participate in the programme.

Captain Hassan Alhammadi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Flight Operations Emirates Airline said : “Actively participating in IATA’s Turbulence Aware platform and equipping our pilots with a complement of the latest industry technologies such as the mobile navigation solution Lido mPilot from Lufthansa Systems are part of our commitment to ensure operational safety, efficiency, and customer comfort on every flight. We’re also proud to contribute data around turbulence through our Middle East network and extensive links across Africa, Asia, Australia, and other regions. It will help build sophisticated industry knowledge to effectively manage turbulence and evolving weather patterns with even more precision. This is only the beginning, and we are progressing with plans to integrate more cutting-edge technologies to elevate the flying experience even further, so our customers can enjoy smoother journeys.”

“Mitigating the adverse effects of turbulence is an industry wide challenge and obtaining accurate and live data is key in this endeavour. The cooperation between IATA Turbulence Aware, Emirates and Lufthansa Systems will further improve the quality and quantity of real time data made available to the industry, allowing for smoother and safer air travel for all,” said Frederic Leger, IATA’s Senior Vice President Commercial Products and Services.

“IATA Turbulence Aware data enhances the value of Lido mPilot by providing pilots with real-time, accurate and comprehensive information on turbulence, enabling them to make informed decisions and navigate more efficiently. By integrating this data into Lido mPilot, Emirates Airline can increase safety, reduce fuel consumption and minimize passenger discomfort, ultimately improving their operational efficiency and customer satisfaction,” said Andreas Medlhammer, Product Owner Pilot Charting Apps at Lufthansa Systems.

IATA’s Turbulence Aware is a global, real-time detailed and objective information resource for pilots and aviation professionals to manage and mitigate the impact of turbulence on operations. Turbulence is the main cause of passenger and crew injuries and leads to higher fuel usage. The platform pools anonymized turbulence data from thousands of flights operated around the world. The information generated from this data enables pilots and dispatchers to choose optimal flight paths, avoiding turbulence and flying at peak levels and altitudes to maximize fuel efficiency, ultimately reducing carbon emissions. Till date, Turbulence Aware ensured a safer flight for over 700 million passengers, a number that will continue to rise as new airlines join the program.

Lido mPilot is an all-in-one mobile navigational charting application from Lufthansa Systems and has been configured based on Emirates’ specific operational requirements. Lido mPilot provides pilots with easy access to terminal charts, a dynamically generated enroute map, and an Airport Moving Map (AMM).  Its data-driven, interactive maps, and the latest weather features relevant to each flight being operated ensure enhanced situational awareness and the most pertinent information for pilots.
