2017 Dodge Journey Interior Review

The 2017 Dodge Journey’s interior features quality materials and a stylish design, and the quality belies its low price. The seats are comfortable, though the optional third row is best left for smaller passengers. The infotainment system is one of the best on the market and is incredibly easy to use.

The Journey comes standard with two rows and seating for five on cloth upholstery. A third row that increases capacity to seven is available as an option or standard in higher trims. Other optional seating features include premium cloth seats, leather-bolstered seats with cloth inserts, full leather seats, a six-way power driver’s seat, heated seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, and a heated steering wheel.

There are two complete and one partial LATCH system in the Journey, which are on the outboard and middle seats of the second row, respectively. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the system as Marginal, which is the second-worst designation. On all three seats, the top tether anchor is hard to find and could be confused with other hardware. The middle seat borrows one lower anchor from the passenger side seat, and it’s difficult to maneuver around the anchors. On the second row driver’s side seat, the lower anchors are too deep in the seat cushion. There are optional integrated child booster seats available for the second row that are easier to manipulate than the standard LATCH tethers and anchors.

The Journey’s front seats provide a good amount of comfort and support for long drives. The second-row seats are also comfortable and have decent legroom. Passenger space in the third row is marginal and better suited to smaller adults or children.

Standard features include a USB port, an infotainment system with a 4.3-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system, proximity key entry, and push-button ignition. Optional features include tri-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, Bluetooth with voice command activation, an 8.4-inch infotainment touch screen, a six-speaker Alpine premium sound system with subwoofer, a DVD player with a 9-inch screen, navigation, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, remote start, a 115-volt power outlet, a security alarm, and a universal garage door opener.

The Dodge Uconnect infotainment system earns strong acclaim for its ease of use. Its display screen is sharp and easy to read, and menus are intuitive and easy to navigate. Other controls, for functions like audio or climate, are also easy to find and use.

Those numbers are among the lowest in the class. Compartments under the seats and floor give additional storage space, and an optional folding front passenger seat allows for transport of exceptionally long items.
