The Twelve Best Coffee Shops in Tampa!

coffee tour florida

What are the best coffee shops in Tampa? If you haven’t kept up recently, you may not know: Tampa has exploded with food, culture, and especially great craft coffee! Tampa, or Tampa Bay (Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater) has seen unprecedented growth in the last 5 years. Every few months a new trendy hip coffee shop opens up, many serving up house roasted beans while others bring in the best roasts from around the country. There’s something for everyone too: from the coffee connoisseur to the novice coffee drinker just looking to break away from big chains and stale java. Let’s break down the best spots! Here are the dozen best coffee shops (in no particular order) in Tampa — and why you should give them a shot too!

1. Paradeco Coffee Roasters – St. Petersburg

Paradeco is the best coffee shop in tampa to take a selfie..

coffee tour florida

First up on our list of the best coffee shops in Tampa is one of the newest coffee shops in the area: Paradeco (a portmanteau of “paradise” and “art deco”). Founders Tom Maloney and Sonya Sarkar launched Paradeco in Downtown St. Pete in May of 2021. Beautiful doesn’t begin to describe this shop. With a design language that incorportates vintage Florida (pastels and palm trees), Italian influences (rounded corners and brass accents), and a live plant wall, Paradeco is the most Instagram-worthy shop in Tampa Bay. Not only that, but Paradeco has some of the best equipment around including a Bellwether state-of-the-art indoor smokeless coffee roaster, a La Marzocco KB-90 espresso machine (with a custom paint job), Ground Control brewer, and Pour Steady automatic triple pour over system. All that and the cold brew is worth the trip from just about any distance.

2. Buddy Brew – Tampa, Sarasota, Oxford Exchange

Buddy brew is the best coffee shop in tampa for meeting the locals..

coffee tour florida

No mention of the best coffee shops in Tampa would be complete without Buddy Brew. Buddy Brew is one of the oldest local coffee roasters in Tampa still going strong. In addition to their expansive original location (which has grown over the years as they’ve grabbed neighboring real estate), Buddy Brew now has a spot in near-by downtown Sarasota and at the hip Oxford Exchange — a popular Tampa spot for food, conversation, and shopping. If you go you have to try the “Buddy Brew Screw”: a shot of espresso served with grapefruit juice and a spoonful of salt. Take it like a shot (first salt, then espresso, and finally the juice) and you’ll find it extends your caffeine buzz out all day long!

3. Craft Kafe – St. Petersburg

Craft kafe is the best coffee shop in tampa to bring a friend when they visit tampa bay..

coffee tour florida

No list of the best coffee shops in Tampa would be complete without hitting the Sunshine City: St. Petersburg’s Craft Kafe. Craft Kafe is the shop I’m most likely to bring an out-of-town friend to. It’s got a cool rustic vibe with found wood furniture and dramatic lighting. Craft Kafe features a 100% gluten-free bakery, but you wouldn’t know it if they didn’t tell you (seriously, it’s the best!)  Add to that an incredibly knowledgeable staff, top coffee from the best roasters around the country (including Arkansas based Onyx Coffee Lab) and regular latte art throw-down barista competitions and you’ve got a shop every die-hard coffee fan will want to visit as well as anyone who wants the a really great gluten-free muffin. The proof is in the pudding: Craft Kafe is usually very busy so they’ve just opened up a second location on the other end of town.

4.  Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails – St. Petersburg

Intermezzo is the best coffee shop in tampa for a date..

coffee tour florida

Staying in the St. Pete our next Tampa Bay area cafe making the list is Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails. Intermezzo (Italian for “intermission”) serves up a rotating stock of the best coffee roasters in the country (including Verve and Kuma) as well as a full cocktail bar and creative espresso-based mock-tails like the “Espresso Mint Julep” (a play on a bourbon Mint Julep with espresso substituting for the booze.) Intermezzo is pretty. I mean, it’s basically Instagram-heaven. Very clean white walls with tasteful appropriations and lots of beautiful people. Intermezzo is the shop where I’m most likely to bring a date. Come in the afternoon for a Kyoto iced cold brew coffee (they serve the best one in town) and stay for a cocktail or a mesmerizing omakase-style oyster experience.

5. Caffeine Roasters – Tampa

Caffeine is the best coffee shop in tampa for busy commuters..

coffee tour florida

Caffeine opened it’s downtown Tampa cafe is 2016, but it’s the recent addition of the location on Kennedy and Armenia that has everyone excited. Hailing all the way from Lithuania this team (lead by Emilija Dadonaite) roasts their coffee in house (you can see the roaster from the cash register!) They’ve also got delicious food (the lemon aioli egg sandwich is to die for) and their Kennedy Blvd location has a drive through!! Add to that one of the most impressive slow bar (think: pour over, Chemex, Aeropress) menus in Tampa and you’ve got a recipe for an amazing coffee shop. Caffeine is the shop with the friendliest staff and it’s my favorite shop to invite my best friend to come work with me from.

6. Southside Coffee Brew Bar – St. Petersburg

Southside coffee brew bar is the best coffee shop in tampa to get a cup of coffee everyone will love..

coffee tour florida

With the cheeky slogan “Best Coffee in the Hood” emblazoned on their shirts you can tell that Tampa Bay coffee gem Southside Coffee Brew Bar is a down-to-earth spot. What you might not realize on first blush is that it’s also home to one of the best cups of coffee in Tampa. Bar none. Proprietor Sheila Smith has been working in coffee for the better part of two decades and it shows. Ask her to take home a 1/2 pound of her house blend or one of her rotating guest coffees (roasted fresh weekly) and you’ll never go back to your tin can espresso. Southside Coffee Brew Bar also features fun drinks like the spicy “Mexican Mocha” as well as Kratom, Kombucha, and and Nitro infused cold-brew coffee. Located next to the famous “Munches Dinner” (featured on the Food Network’s “Diner’s Drive-Ins and Dives”) Southside customers can grab a coffee and walk it next door to enjoy with their breakfast or just stay and hang out on the patio under the shade of native Florida plants while you chat up the locals — who are there every day, to be sure.

7. The Hause Coffee Shop – Largo

Hause is the best coffee shop in the clearwater-largo area of tampa bay..

coffee tour florida

The Tampa Bay area includes lots of smaller cities like Largo and Clearwater, but to locals, it’s all Tampa Bay. Located 20 miles North of St. Petersburg in Largo, The Hause Coffee Shop is one of the best cafes in the Tampa Bay region. Convenient to St. Pete, Seminole, Largo, and Pinellas Park Hause serves an otherwise underserved area of Pinellas County. They offer a great spacious cafe that regularly hosts open mic nights and occasional free coffee mornings. Serving up Tampa coffee roaster Buddy Brew, the staff at Hause are curious and approachable. They are constantly improving their coffee offerings and it shows! Hause is my favorite spot to “meet in the middle” when my friends live in Clearwater, Dunedin or Safety Harbor. It’s also the spot at which the idea for the St. Pete Craft Coffee Tour was born!

8. Foundation Coffee Co. – Tampa

Foundation is the best coffee shop in tampa to run into an old friend..

coffee tour florida

Foundation Coffee really is one of the best coffee shops in Tampa. With a great coffee menu featuring house-roasted offerings as well as those from local roasters like Zeal and Kingstate Coffee Roasters, Foundation delivers on great coffee. They have two locations, one in Riverview and a new one at the Bunker in Ybor City. Foundation is the best coffee shop in Tampa for running into an old friend, or a new one.

9. The Chelsea – St. Petersburg

The chelsea st. pete is the best coffee shop in tampa to grab and oat milk latte and a last-minute birthday gift for mom..

coffee tour florida

One of the best coffee shops in Tampa Bay is also one of the newest. The Chelsea St. Pete opened its doors in 2021. Owner Teresa Chalkley named the Chelsea as a nod to the famous NYC hotel as well as to her husband’s roots in London (there’s a Chelsea there too). The Chelsea St. Pete may be the cutest shop you’ll visit while in the Tampa Bay area. The decor is bohemian with fun mis-matched furniture and playful wall art. About that: everything is for sale. Having a succesful retail career, Mrs. Chalkley smartly incorportes beautiful art, jewelery, plants, and much more into the shops aesthetic and then lets you buy it. It’s a great place to find a unique gift! The Chelsea features a gorgeous courtyard, perfect for relaxing in the shade. They also have freshly roasted coffee by Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters delivered weekly so their brews are always on point. Argubably the best thing about them may be that they don’t charge extra for dairy alternatives (oat, soy, almond, or coconut) in their drinks. Win!

10. The Blind Tiger Cafe – Ybor, Tampa

Blind tiger is the best coffee shop in tampa to study for a test or outrun the law..

coffee tour florida

The Blind Tiger Cafe has three locations (Ybor City, Seminole Heights, and SOHO) and they likely won’t stop there.  This speakeasy inspired Tampa cafe is serving up house roasted beans that are “so good they should be illegal” along with creative tasty drinks like the popular “Cafe Bombon” which adds steamed sweetened condensed milk to the traditional Cafe Late formula or their Espresso Affogato (espresso and gelato.) A popular spot for studying, relaxing, or just grabbing a tea or coffee, Blind Tiger is a must-hit and one of the best coffee shops in Tampa.

11. Bandit Coffee Co. – St. Petersburg

Bandit is the best coffee shop in tampa to sport a beard or eat a vegan donut..

coffee tour florida

From their days slinging coffee in local markets to the opening of their beautiful shop in St. Pete’s Grand Central district Bandit has quickly risen to become one of the most popular coffee shops in Tampa Bay. These days they are roasting their own single-origin coffee (they share space with Tampa roaster King State Coffee), supporting important causes (like hurricane relief for Puerto Rico), and creating a space that attracts a slew of young professionals (Macbook Pros in hand, of course.) With a lot of space to work and a bright clean look, Bandit is my favorite spot to bring my laptop to work while I sip on a delightful pour-over coffee. Roasted last week, of course.

12. Spaddy’s Coffee – Tampa

Spaddy’s is the best coffee shop in tampa to hit up when you’re near macdill or seminole heights..

Finally on our list of the dozen best coffee shops in Tampa is Spaddy’s coffee. With two locations: the original trailer parked next to La Segunda bakery in Seminole Heights and their newer location South of Gandy near MacDill Airforce Base, Spaddy’s has something for everyone. From stellar hand poured coffees to creative espresso drinks like the orange infused “Florida Man”, Spaddy’s is relentlously quality focused while keeping the atmosphere casual and welcoming. Stop by sometime and tell Spaddy I said hi.

The hardest part about writing a list like this is knowing where to stop. Tampa has so many amazing coffee shops I couldn’t possibly hit them all in this one post. What are your favorites? Which Tampa Bay area coffee shop do you want to try next? Send me an email at: [email protected] to let me know!

The Florida Travel Girl

15 Must-Visit Coffee Shops in Florida

Amy

The Sunshine State is often known for its sandy beaches and amusement parks, but did you know that it also boasts an impressive array of coffee shops? We have found incredible cafes all over Florida with everything from fruity pebble lattes to geisha pour overs.

I put together this guide to share all of our favorite coffee shops we have found while exploring Florida. I have broken it up by North, Central, and South Florida and tried to cover each metro area. If you want to see a map and start planning your coffee-tasting adventure, read on!

florida's best coffee shops guide

Table of Contents

North Florida

From Jacksonville to the Panhandle, Northern Florida is no stranger to excellent coffee. When we drove back from Denver, we found this area to be an oasis in the coffee desert that is the Southern US.

We have stayed in most of the northern Florida towns (except Tallahassee!) and found these cafes to be places we love stopping at on road trips or vacations.

1. Alla Prima Coffee Roaster

Alla Prima Coffee Roaster is a must-visit for all coffee enthusiasts. They are known for their exceptional quality coffee, sourced from the best coffee-producing regions around the world. This place is super cozy and welcoming and has become an essential stop on our cross-country road trips.

2. Beignets & Brew

  • Beverages: Lattes, Espresso, Cold Brew, Matcha, Smoothies, Soda, Beer, Wine
  • Food? Beignets

If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat with your coffee, Beignets & Brew is my favorite place in the Panhandle. Aside from their deliciously brewed coffee, they also serve mouthwatering beignets that go great with a cold brew.

3. Southern Grounds & Company

  • Location: 1671 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207

With a wide variety of coffee, tea, and even beer and wine, there is plenty to enjoy at Southern Grounds. You can now find them in four locations across Jacksonville, but the San Marcos one is my go-to.

You might not expect to find an Americano in the tiny town of Alachua but Doxa Coffee Co. proves otherwise. This specialty coffee shop is engrained in the neighborhood and prides itself on using local vendors and direct-trade coffee roasters.

We came here daily when staying in a nearby tiny home Airbnb for a pre-hike beverage, but its also the type of place where you can unwind or get some work done.

5. SunBros Cafe

It fits in perfectly with the surfer vibe of Flagler Beach and also has delicious wraps and sandwiches. And with a bar and live music on Friday nights, it’s an awesome place to chill anytime per day

Central Florida

If you love coffee, Central Florida is the place for you! Between Tampa to Cocoa Beach, you can find dozens of independent roasteries and cafes that serve all sorts of amazing beverages.

As a Central Florida resident, I had a hard time narrowing down this section. I settled on these five spots as my absolute favorites for coffee in Central Florida.

6. The Lab Coffee

  • Location: 1703 W State St, Tampa, FL 33606
  • Beverages: Pour Overs, Drip Cold Brew, Espresso, Tea

Not only are the drinks fantastic, but I am obsessed with the art deco style of the café! It’s brightly colored which adds a touch of whimsy to the day and it allows dogs! This coffee shop is pretty much everything I could ask for and it is a St. Petersburg must-visit for me.

My home of Melbourne has so many wonderful coffee shops, but I especially want to spotlight Apocalypse Coffee Roasters. This small business takes pride in its quality coffee and serves it in its own quirky coffee shop meets thrift store.

Iced Coffee from Apocalypse on the patio

In addition to unique drinks like a Milky Way Lattee, they also have a stellar food menu. I really enjoy the customizable bowls that come with all sorts of fresh veggies. No matter if you are popping in for a drink or staying for lunch, Apocalypse has you covered.

South Florida

You can’t visit South Florida without trying a strong cup of Cuban Coffee; a specialty they do best here! However, you can also find modern coffee shops that offer cold brews, lattes, and the like. These next five cafes strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.

11.  Good Ground

  • Location: 2281 Main St, Fort Myers, FL 33901

Easily one of the most memorable coffee shops I have visited is Kunjani Craft Coffee in Naples, mainly because there is an excellent art gallery to peruse within the space! Though there are multiple locations to visit, my favorite is their original spot on Clematis Street with its colorful patio and acai bowls. It’s the ideal spot for a pick-me-up when strolling downtown West Palm.

15.   Grou Coffee

  • Locations: 2626 Ponce De Leon Boulevard Unit 3 Coral Gables 33134/ 4100 Salzedo St Ste 5, Coral Gables, FL 33146
  • Beverages: Espresso, Drip, Lattes, French Press, Tea, Smoothies

Located in the heart of Coral Gables, Grou Coffee is a trendy coffee shop that doubles as a coworking space. We spent an afternoon here and were able to have a productive, yet calming experience.

Not only is it a local gathering spot, but everything served here is 100% community-sourced. The food is from local farmers and bakers and all the beans are locally roasted. You can taste the freshness at both the downtown and Merrick Park co-working locations.

Know Before You Go

Next time you need a pick-me-up, skip the Starbucks drive-thru and try one of these unique locally owned Florida coffee shops! I have personally tried each option on this list and can confidently say that it will be a more personal and unique experience, as well as quite tasty!

Map of Florida's best Coffee Shops

With hours and menus ever-changing, be sure to check out the website of each option listed before going. Additionally, keep these tips in mind to ensure the best café experience.

  • Cafe menus are known to change frequently, so please consult the websites ahead of time. The offerings described for each are meant to give a general representation of what each cafe has.
  • Some smaller shops might not accept credit cards or could have a minimum charge for card transactions. You may want to bring cash just in case.
  • If you plan to work or study, make sure they have Wi-Fi and enough outlets. Not all places are equipped for long work sessions.
  • Coffee shops often serve as community hubs. Be mindful of your noise levels and how long you occupy a table, especially during busy hours.
  • Though tipping is not necessary, it goes a long way at these local shops!

New downtown Pensacola coffee tour highlights 5 spots to get your java fix

coffee tour florida

Seville Savories Food Tours is adding a third option to its collection: coffee.

The company already offers the "Palafox-Trot" and "Seville Stroll" for lunch and dinner respectively. Now, starting Sept. 29, coffee enthusiasts can join the company's president, Duel Christian, for a morning stroll to five downtown locations for five different cups of coffee on the "Bayou Buzz Coffee Tasting Tour."

"I didn't want to do more than five, because I didn't want to get anyone super caffeinated," Christian said, adding that he was particularly excited to use the new tasting room at Fosko Coffee Barre.

Coffee flights: This Pensacola coffee kiosk serves caffeine flights and they're all the buzz downtown

Beyond coffee: Blue Bayou Coffee Co. opens on Gulf Beach Highway with robust breakfast and lunch menus

Other than Fosko, Christian also has included Bodacious Bookstore, Mrs. Jones Cold Brew at Nomadic's Cafe, The Nest and Polonza on the coffee tour. The coffee tour costs $35, while the lunch and dinner offers are $55 and $65, respectively. Each guest received one item of the establishment's choosing on the tour.

All orders have to be booked at  sevillesavoriesfoodtour.com . The lunch tour is available Wednesday through Friday, the dinner tour is available Wednesday and Thursday and the coffee tour will be available Tuesday through Friday. The tours last about three hours, and guests walk between one and two miles.

"Actually, it was a guest from out-of-town that had asked if I'd ever thought about doing a coffee tour," Christian said. "It really had never crossed my mind, but I thought that it really could be an excellent thing to do in the mornings."

Christian, who grew up in downtown Pensacola, expected to launch Seville Savories in January 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic postponed his idea before he had his first tour. A full year later, Christian relaunched in January 2021.

"I really just stayed home and read a lot of books," Christian said about his lengthy gap between initial launches. "I am researching and writing a cookbook to coincide with the tours. It's called 'Flavors of History.'"

Christian said he wants his cookbook to give historically accurate recipes about each of the historical periods he talks about on his food tours. He added that he had a unique introduction into the world of cooking.

"Well, my first job in TV was as a camera operator for 'Gourmet Cooking with Earl Peyroux' back in 1988," Christian said. "It sparked my love for cooking. I learned how to cook on a TV set when I really didn't know anything about cooking. ... In my career, I was in all of these really high-end restaurants, learning new techniques and growing from there."

As Christian weighs what type of food tours he wants to have, he said there are some he has decided against, and others that he hopes to expand into in the future.

"I had thought about a brewery tour, but it didn't quite work for downtown. I didn't want to try and compete with (the already-existing brewery tours)," Christian said. "Right now, it is just me, so I don't have the personnel for a breakfast tour, but I'm coming to look into starting one."

Christian said he has intimately visited every place on every tour, and he said his frequency and enjoyment of these places is what made it so easy to set up with the vendors.

"If you come on a food tour, come hungry," Christian said with a laugh.

14 Best Coffee Shops in St. Petersburg, Florida

This post contains affiliate links which means that I will make a small commission if you purchase a product after clicking on any of them, at no extra cost to you.

You could say that I have a little bit of a coffee addiction. And I don’t think I could find a more perfect place to live to indulge it than St. Petersburg , Florida. If you’re looking for the best coffee shops in St. Pete, there are plenty to choose from!

There are nearly 35 non-chain coffee shops in this city alone! Not to mention the dozens more right next door in Tampa . How amazing is that?

Each one is so different from the last. It was a lot of work researching for this post, and a lot of lattes were drank, but I finally narrowed it down to the 14 best coffee shops in St. Pete!

I’m sure you’re wondering, “What makes a coffee shop one of the best?” Well, obviously, great coffee. But, for me, I also consider the environment…and okay, bonus points if they make a design on my latte. I know that not everyone cares, but I also like when a spot has a lot of flavor options (and coffee varieties), especially seasonal (yes, I’m basic and love pumpkin spice).

Let’s get to it! Here are the best coffee shops in St. Pete, Florida!

Table of Contents

Best Coffee Shops in Downtown St. Pete

The library.

The Library is my number one pick. If you follow me on Insta , you’ve seen my posts about this spot before, and I’m not going to stop talking about it anytime soon. The cappuccinos here are soo smooth. They use Buddy Brew Coffee , which is probably one of my all-time favorite coffees.

Buddy Brew’s products come from beans that are thoughtfully selected directly from the best coffee farmers throughout the world. The beans are then skillfully roasted in their own facility.

The Library doesn’t always have seasonal flavors, but they do have the most important one (pumpkin spice, obvs) during the fall and some of the winter months. You can get vanilla, caramel, and mocha at any time. I will personally vouch for the vanilla which is my fave.

holding latte in front of book shelf full of blue books at coffee shops in St. Petersburg, Florida

As far as the environment goes, it’s typically somewhat heavily trafficked, but it still remains decently quiet. It’s a great spot for meeting a friend for a cup of coffee and catching up or being productive. On days they’re really busy you can almost always find a spot at their community high-top table.

The only problem I have with The Library is the coffee is so delicious and goes down so smoothly that all of a sudden, you’re three hours into working on stuff just to realize you’ve had seven cappuccinos. Oops.

Take a peek at their menu too if you’re hungry, they are also known for being one of the best brunch spots in downtown St. Pete too! I’ve had at least half of the menu items, and I have yet to be disappointed. This spot is perfect for bach parties and birthday brunches !

blue books lining bookshelves behind a dining area

Black Crow Coffee Shop

Black Crow could not be more different from The Library. The Library has this sophisticated, put-together vibe, and Black Crow is more of what I imagine the inside of my brain looks like. It’s an extremely eclectic, artsy atmosphere with the most random seating arrangements and things hanging on the walls. No two chairs are the same here.

It’s like the owners went to multiple estate sales and just grabbed whatever was there and threw it in the coffee shop. And you know what, it’s genius. It totally works— you just feel at home here.

Black Crow Coffee entry

The coffee is great and they have so many flavors to choose from! The blend they locally roast changes periodically, but the beans are all fair trade, single-origin, and organic.

Black Crow is so much deeper than being just a coffee shop.

This place really holds true to the Keep St. Pete Local mantra that the city has. Every first Saturday of the month, they have an art premiere with live music. The art premiere showcases local artists who have submitted their work to be displayed and sold throughout the month until the next premiere. They have poetry events and open mic nights throughout the month as well.

Black Crow was the first coffee shop in Florida to be zero waste. This means that 90% of their waste stays out of landfills. All of their to-go products are compostable (even the coffee bags they have for the coffee beans). If you want a straw you have your choice of pasta or metal. They even compost their coffee grounds.

If I still haven’t convinced you that Black Crow is one of the best coffee shops in downtown St. Petersburg yet, if you bring in a bucket of liter you’ve collected from an area in need, Black Crow gives you a free coffee! They even provide you with the bucket. I love this!

A random patron sat down at the piano they have placed in the corner and began to play while I was enjoying my coffee. How many coffee shops can you get that at?

The Blend Coffee & Wine

Two words: coffee flights. That’s right! The Blend is one of the only coffee shops in downtown St. Petersburg that offers a few different options for coffee flights! Your options include a traditional coffee flight with cold brew, latte, caramel, and white mocha, as well as a coffee flight with their ‘white espresso’.

The ‘white espresso’ is something totally unique, that I honestly have never seen done elsewhere! The beans are lightly roasted at a lower temperature. This results in a different flavor profile that yields a higher caffeine content than your standard cup of black coffee.

They also sometimes have seasonal flights, and have a fuzion flight if you’re wanting to switch things up!

Two different types of Coffee Flights from The Blend coffee shop in St. Pete

The Blend has 3 locations, including one with a drive-thru (located on 34th Street North), and I’m pretty sure we can expect this awesome brand to continue popping up! My favorite location is the one in the Old Northeast.

There is plenty of room to hang out and enjoy your flight while getting some work done. They also have beer, wine, and bites! AND the cutest shirts EVER ! Seriously, I couldn’t resist snagging one for myself! Make sure to give them a follow on Instagram , as they’re always posting fun, new drinks.

A wall at The Blend that has it's name with a teal heart on the Tampa area of the state of Florida

Foxtail Coffee Co.

Foxtail Coffee Co. is the new kid on the block here in historic uptown St. Pete. I actually love this place so much that I am writing about it as I sit here and enjoy my snickerdoodle iced latte. It’s an Orlando-based coffee shop, with several locations across the state.

They have every coffee concoction you could possibly want, and they even have a cold brew coffee flight! My obsession with cold brew just began this year so it is what I am planning on getting my next visit. They also have several interesting tea options for those non-coffee drinkers, and some delicious-sounding breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

It’s a good workspace, where there’s a little bit of background noise and stuff going on, but still not too loud to where you can’t get any work done. This is definitely going to be one of St. Pete’s hot spots for a cup of joe!

The Crislip Cafe

I’m not sure how long The Crislip Cafe has been in downtown St. Pete, but I am so sad it took me as long as I did to visit. It is a total GEM! It’s located on Central Ave, tucked inside of The Merchant (a shop that carries handcrafted goods and art from over 80 different local creatives!).

Before I tried the coffee I swore I would come back just for the vibe, but don’t worry the coffee is an absolute treat! Very smooth, and they have drinks like the “Black Magic Woman” which is a Mayan-inspired mocha, with cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, dark chocolate, and whipped cream, or their “Purple Rain” which is a lavender latte with local honey, lavender syrup, topped with lavender buds.

That’s just to name a few of their fun coffee drinks! They have several more.

If you needed another reason to like them, their coffee is organic and produced from coffee farms around the globe that are a part of the “Cafe Femenino” project (women-owned farms). The Crislip Cafe has a mission to support local and socially/ethically conscious businesses.

They carry four local bakers’ pastries and treats, five local craft breweries’ beers (yes, you can have beer or wine here), and Joffrey’s Tampa organic coffees. I discovered my love for Joffrey’s when I stayed in Midtown Tampa .

If you’re hungry, they have cheese and charcuterie, sandwiches, and several breakfast options. They even have a Sunday brunch that also features an English Afternoon High Tea!

Crislip Cafe iced pumpkin spice latte

If you’re looking for a cozy and unique coffee shop experience in downtown St. Pete, be sure to check out Bad Mother . Located inside Station House, a trendy co-working space, this coffee shop offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for catching up with friends or settling in with your laptop for some work.

The coffee is smooth, bold, and absolutely delicious. During my visit, I went with a basic order, but the specialty drinks did sound intriguing. If you’re feeling bold, try the “El Cocotaso”, a spicy mocha that’s sure to awaken your taste buds. In addition to their exceptional coffee, Bad Mother also serves up light bites.

Whether you’re in the mood for something savory or sweet, they’ve got you covered. I highly recommend the whipped ricotta toast with Bartlett pears, walnuts, honey, thyme, and bee pollen on toasted bread – it’s the perfect blend of flavors and textures.

Bad Mother downtown St Pete coffee shop

Brewed Awakenings

If you’re a coffee lover looking for something unique and refreshing, you simply have to check out Brewed Awakenings on Central Ave in downtown St. Pete. This Cuban-style cold brew coffee shop is unlike any other coffee spot in town, and you won’t be disappointed by the delicious and carefully crafted beverages on offer.

I recently stopped by and was blown away by the full-on show our barista gave us while making our cinnamon banana bread lattes. But the coffee itself was the real star of the show – smooth, well-balanced, and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. And the atmosphere is just as enjoyable as the coffee – Brewed Awakening is located outdoors, but shaded, so you can sip your coffee while enjoying the downtown St. Pete vibe.

They are open Thursday through Sunday. Be sure to add this spot to your must-visit list!

Brewed Awakenings Cold Brew Bar

Gypsy Souls

Gypsy Souls Coffeehouse is a mom-and-pop shop. It was peaceful here, and not overcrowded. I found it to be an excellent spot to spend some quality time with the laptop.

Their beans are single-origin and never blended or flavored. They get them from all over the world but roast them locally.

They have quite a selection of flavors to choose from, and I’m determined to try them all. I did the raspberry white mocha, and I also tried the pistachio. The raspberry white mocha was super sweet, but not in a bad way if you’re into sweets— I was definitely having some sweet tooth cravings at the time, so it worked for me.

The pistachio was much less sweet and very yummy and different. I had never had a pistachio cappuccino before. A few of their other random flavors include toffee nut, lavender, and toasted marshmallow. Also, if it’s your thing, they have CBD-infused espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos.

The staff here was extremely perky and friendly. They’re very eager to help you select the right flavor and answer any questions you may have about the shop or the area.

They also have another location near Indian Rocks Beach that is on the water!

numerous long high tops for seating at a coffee shop in st. pete

You’ll find The Scott located inside of the historic Cordova Inn. Walking up the front you immediately feel right at home. The Scott provides such a cozy atmosphere, you definitely won’t want to get your coffee to go.

The Scott partnered with the local Hogg Batch Coffee. What’s cool about Hogg Batch Coffee is they first age their beans in barrels from different liquor distilleries, and then age and roast the beans with whiskey, bourbon, and gin at their Central Ave facility.

This causes each batch to taste different than the last. Worried you’re cup of joe is going to cause you to catch a buzz (aside from the caffeine buzz)? Don’t! The roasting process removes any alcohol 🙂

Because of how uniquely the coffee is aged and roasted, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and try The Scott Brew instead of my usual cappuccino or latte. Honestly, it was great! They even gave me cream in case I needed it, but the flavors alone were so amazing!

If you are trying to catch a real buzz though, The Scott does also serve up craft cocktails Wednesday through Sunday 4-11 pm.

Paradeco Coffee Roasters

Upon entering you’re going to be in awe by this spot’s aesthetic. Seriously, it’s hard to resist not taking a cute Insta pic!

Paradeco is more than just a pretty face though. The owners, Tom and Sonya, have so much passion and intent in what they’re putting out, and it shows.

When it comes to sourcing their coffee, they ensure it’s sustainably harvested. They also aim to work with women-owned coffee farms and have an innovative new zero-emission coffee bean roaster. According to studies, the roasting stage for coffee on average contributes approximately 15% of the overall carbon footprint (about 1.2 pounds of carbon emissions). So a zero-emission coffee bean roaster is huge!

Vibe of Paradeco Coffee Roasters in downtown St. Pete

There is really so much to unpack with the conscious efforts Tom and Sonya make to Paradeco not just a cozy coffee shop, but also one with purpose. But let’s get to how it tastes! I tried several of their menu items and here are a couple of my favorites: their iced vanilla oat milk latte and their matcha with vanilla, fresh Madagascar vanilla beans, and oat milk.

If you like your coffee more simple their cold brew and Ethiopian blend also had a lovely flavor profile.

This was my first time having matcha, and I only did because it came highly recommended! I had no idea how to even order it, but luckily the staff was able to guide me and come to a decision that was very satisfying.

If you’re hungry they also have baked goods, superfood smoothies, and bites. They currently have a seasonal menu with lemon citrus pancakes and autumn homage french toast, but I couldn’t resist getting their avocado toast. I’m a sucker for good avo toast, and the balsamic on here brought it home for me!

matcha from Paradeco, cute coffee shop in downtown St. Pete

You walk into this location and you just know the coffee has to be good because of how busy it is. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was bustling. They have good music goin’ in the background too.

Beautifully crafted latte with a design on the foam at Bandit-- a coffee shop in St. Petersburg, Florida

The vibe here is very bright and clean. This may not be the best place to get work done, but it is a great spot to meet up with a friend and catch up, or just unwind and people-watch with one of their amazing lattes.

They have a couple of your standard flavors, like vanilla and mocha, as well as occasional seasonal flavors. Not just your typical seasonal flavors, though. I went in the fall and had a maple bourbon latte, and my mouth is watering right now just reminiscing on it— and look at that design!

Seating area inside Bandit Coffee

Book + Bottle

I have quite the obsession with cute bookshops, and I’m used to them serving coffee, but  Book + Bottle  takes things next level and pairs an array of literary works with a glass (or bottle) of wine. Why didn’t I think of that?

I’m not going to lie, I had been here a few times but only gotten their wine, so I couldn’t speak on their coffee. Let me inform you, I was missing out. I sipped on their iced pumpkin pie cheesecake latte and it tasted just as good as it sounds!!

The vibe there is therapeutic. Being surrounded by books, enjoying a delicious coffee or wine, and the staff is so friendly! Put this spot at the top of your list of places to check out. Make sure to check out all of their  fun events  or their  online book club  as well!

Their Monday nights are one of my free things to do in Tampa Bay and one of my favorite things to do in downtown St. Pete 😉

Patrona coffee.

Patrona Coffee is located right off of the Gandy Bridge on the St. Pete side and serves up waterfront views with its delicious coffee. It’s a great place to spend your morning. They have great cold brews and iced lattes, the perfect treat for a warm Florida day.

They even have kayak and paddleboard rentals if you want to get active! Or if you’re feeling productive, they do offer wifi even though the entire shop is outdoors. Dolphins are also spotted here frequently making the coffee experience even sweeter.

Grove Surf & Coffee

Anytime I find myself in St. Pete Beach , a stop at Grove Surf & Coffee is a must! They have several specialty lattes to choose from including a toasted coconut latte and an orange vanilla latte. I typically try and snag whatever fun seasonal flavor they’re offering at the time, and I have yet to be disappointed.

This is the perfect place to sit with your laptop, catch up with friends, or do a little retail therapy! They have the CUTEST shop!

I now wish I’d spent more time in St Pete’s! I love the sound of Black Crow – that eclectic style is totally my scene. And the pistachio cappuccino from Gypsy Souls sounds so delicious!

Aw, well there’s plenty to do if you come back now! 🙂

Wow, these all look amazing! I love finding little local coffee shops. If I ever find myself in St. Pete, I’ll definitely check some of these out. Brew D Licious especially looks great! 🙂 Krystianna @ Volumes and Voyages

Yay! I hope you do get to check em out 🙂

I live in St. Pete and have been to a few of these and can’t wait to add the rest of them to my list! You should definitely check out Paradeco by the pier, its brand new and the vibes/aesthetic is amazing in there! Book and Bottle is also such a nice spot, its a super cute wine bar/coffee spot:)

I have tried Paradeco, I loved the aesthetic but didn’t enjoy their coffee at all :/ I love book and bottle! It’s on my list of things to do in st Pete! Such a unique gem!

Book + Bottle in downtown St. Petersburg is a definite great coffee spot. The locally owned book store, coffee shop, wine store opened as COVID shut down St. Pete., but stayed alive delivering door to door!

I love Book + Bottle, it’s included in my things to do in St Pete blog post! Check it out 🙂

OMG Coffee flights?!?!? I can’t get over how cute all of these places are! I am so excited for my trip to St Pete’s in May! Thank you for putting these blog posts together. This is definitely the most helpful travel blog that I’ve found!

Oh my gosh thank you so so much!! You’re going to fall in love with this area 🙂 Glad I could help out!

How about Craft Cafe? I have only been there about 600 times in the last 3 years so I may be biased but lines out the door on weekends means I am not their only fan.

It’s not one of my personal faves in st Pete, but I did include their tampa location which I’ve had a better experience at

Get Caffeinated at a Local Coffee Hot Spot

Caffeinated faithfuls will find plenty of great cafés in St. Augustine.

Get Caffeinated at a Local Coffee Hot Spot

Awesome coffee is a year-round commodity in St. Augustine.

As I write this, it's fall again. And while that may not mean exactly the same thing here as it does throughout most of the rest of the country (no changing leaves, it's still hot, etc.), St. Augustine maintains its share of autumnal comforts. Pumpkin spice everything is everywhere now, and local coffee shops are no exception.

While pumpkin spice is fleeting, coffee hot spots in St. Augustine are forever. Regardless of where you believe pumpkin spice does or does not belong, you definitely belong in one of St. Augustine's many caffeinated establishments.

Whether you crave a classic cup of joe, or a latte with an ingredient list that is longer than this article, you can happily get your fix pretty much anywhere in St. Augustine. That leaves you with an overwhelming surplus of options. Fortunately for you, I buzzed around town in search of the best shops and cafés for all tastes and desires.

I began my buzzing near the north side of downtown, on Orange Street by the city gate. I imagine this is the route most commonly taken by new visitors to our town. It's also not far off from my once-daily trek as a Flagler College student from the parking garage to campus. I could almost taste the nostalgia, between my memories of staying awake for three days straight to study for finals and the overwhelming atmosphere of the carefully preserved and colorfully presented history of this old town. It became abundantly clear to me that you would have to be mad to attempt to appreciate our city without some kind of coffee , tea, or sweets.

St. Augustine survived a Spanish period, a British period, and then another Spanish period (we were so nice they ruled us twice) before it became part of the United States. Throughout the years, people migrated from all parts of the world. Minorcans, Spanish Celts, Scots-Irish, and many more have all called St. Augustine home.

The sources of local coffee can be just as vivid and diverse. Jamaica, Kenya, Colombia, and many other notably warmer places contribute to the array of beans and brews that can be found at various shops throughout the city. Each source of origin provides its exports (or ex-pats) with their own unique flavors. However, it's the local roasting that really makes these flavors (and stories) come to life.

For pretty much every shop I visited, if their beans were not roasted locally, they were roasted in Jacksonville. A longer, darker roast yields bolder and smokier flavors. Accordingly, however, a longer and darker roast also yields less pep (less caffeine!). Imagine how you feel after sharing a long-winded story about where you came from. The beans are no different — the roasting process is their long story.

To begin my coffee journey through the heart and history of my city, I was going to need something strong.

Located at 15 St. George Street near the city gate and just across from the Castillo de San Marco, City Perks is the perfect place to perk up before a stroll down St. George Street or along the bayfront. Before wandering away with a to-go cup, take the time to enjoy a coffee and a treat inside their shop or out in the courtyard. City Perks works to source as many products locally as possible and they offer some of the most highly regarded coffee roasting names in North Florida. Despite the wide array of beverage options, including organic tea, craft beer, and wine, my personal favorite is the Cuban coffee. For those who are unfamiliar, Cuban coffee is basically the espresso equivalent of sweet tea. If all the caffeine were not enough, you get an added sugar rush within seconds. City Perks invites guests to visit with friends, to settle in and work, or to simply take a moment to relax alone with an excellent beverage.

Crucial Coffee Cafe

coffee tour florida

On the corner of Cuna Street and Charlotte Street sits a picturesque cabin that cannot be missed. Inside is Crucial Coffee Café , which is indeed a crucial part of the St. Augustine coffee experience. In addition to the standard coffee fare, Crucial offers ice cream and New York ice. New York ice is like Italian ice, but with more attitude. In other words, it's Italian ice served to you by someone wearing a Yankees cap (actual team affiliation may vary).

The café itself is small (a prevailing theme amongst downtown establishments), but the gorgeous patio and garden has plenty of seating. This spot is just as perfect for devouring ice cream or coffee as it is for devouring a novel or two. Seriously, Crucial is conveniently located in a very busy part of downtown, but there's something serene about sipping on an iced coffee, feeling the breeze move through the foliage, and getting lost in a fine piece of literature.

I recommend the spiced Thai coffee to find that ultimate moment of Zen. "Oh, come on Ben, you're just recommending coffees that are named after countries or nationalities." Well, so far, yeah. Because they're really good.

Kookaburra is practically a place of worship for coffee lovers. Service is quick and with a smile, making this the optimum joint for grab-and-go stimulation downtown. If you hadn't already figured this out, Kookaburra has Australian roots. In accordance with my propensity to recommend menu items with nationalized names, the Aussie coffee is superb, as are their other specialty drinks. If you're not humming Men At Work yet, double down on the Down Under with a savory Aussie pie. And with seven locations between Nocatee and St. Augustine Beach , you'll never go thirsty.

FarmHand KCHN & Coffee

coffee tour florida

Serving delicious and fresh breakfast, lunch, and early dinner (including gluten-free options!),  FarmHand KCHN & Coffee is a blend (get it?) of great coffee and vegan/vegetarian dishes (yes, there are also items with meat). The space is a great place to spend the day and actually enjoy getting work done. This very spacious shop on US 1 (AKA Ponce de Leon Blvd.) offers free and unlimited Wi-Fi and is just as suitable for meetings or group projects as it is for solitary production. Their most popular items with the locals are their Cold Brew, their Stone Cold (a cold brew with a double espresso shot,) and their Cubano City. (Another drink that just happened to fit into my travelogue theme.)

Witty Whisker Cat Cafe

A unique twist on a coffee cafe, Witty Whisker Cat Cafe also offers the opportunity to play with cats while enjoying a cup of joe or wine. Witty Whisker hosts weekly events, daily happy hours from 4:00 p.m. to close, and lots of furry, adoptable felines. They have partnered with Feline Canopy of Care to help give these cats some TLC from coffee-cat lovers and to potentially find them forever homes with those coffee-cat lovers. Coffee, wine, beer, seltzers, and sweet treats can be enjoyed while visiting Witty Whisker Cat Cafe.

After having visited enough coffee shops with beer for this piece, I needed a beer. I also needed more coffee. To satisfy both desires in one cup (but several swigs), my barista whipped up a "speedball." I'd only previously known a speedball as the cause of death for a few of my favorite musicians, so I was reluctant. The barista informed me that this wasn't the same kind of speedball, and that it consisted of "the best cold brew coffee you'll ever have" blended with a coffee stout. And that's exactly what it was, which was also exactly what I needed.

I can't be completely sure as to how DOS got its name, but it could have something to do with its duality. Okay, I'm pretty sure it's because they serve coffee and wine, but I'll delve a bit deeper. DOS is as good of a place to be productive as it is a place to play. While they're open every day, you can hang out late on Saturday nights and catch lovely live and local music. Plenty of natural lighting courtesy of the large front windows and the Florida sun make this place quite comfortable for getting work done, as well as for appreciating local art on display.

Zaba's is the go-to breakfast, hot dog, art, and coffee joint at the beach. Located on A1A Beach Blvd., this café is open daily and offers take-out, so you can enjoy your iced latte and biscuits n' gravy on the beach. I wouldn't recommend enjoying any of the local art you purchase there at the beach, though. That's probably best enjoyed on a wall in your home or place of business. But hey, you do you. Zaba's specializes in "frappes" (frozen cappuccino), which are ideal for a hot day at the beach. While there isn't much space here to get work done, that's okay. Sometimes you just have to go out and play.

And if you're going out to play, shop, see the sights, or tour, St. Augustine has a huge variety of things to do and places to go all hopped up on caffeine. I would suggest that the Lightner Museum is best enjoyed fully caffeinated. How else can one possibly hope to totally take in a giant collection of collections? From there, zip across the street to Flagler College for a Legacy Tour . The Legacy Tours are the only way for outsiders to see the legendary Dining Hall and its Tiffany stained-glass windows. Cap it all off by heading down Riberia Street for a free tour of St. Augustine Distillery Company . After you learn all about how craft vodka, gin, rum, and bourbon are made locally, you'll probably be in for a crash. Find your second wind and head upstairs to the Ice Plant Bar & Restaurant. I would recommend a specialty cocktail called a "Zombie."

If it doesn't help you find that zip in your step again, it'll make dozing off to dreamland a much more attainable end to your evening.

Get a hoagie without leaving your car: First drive-thru Wawa in Florida is now open

Attention Wawa fans : Now you don't even have to get out of your car to get a hoagie.

At least, not in Largo, where the first drive-thru Wawa gas station/convenience store in Florida opened Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, T-shirts for early arrivals, and a Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building competition between Largo police and fire departments with $1,000 going to the winner's chosen charity. (The police department won the trophy , but both agencies got $1,000 donations.)

The drive-thru location, Wawa, 2530 E. Bay Drive, Largo, Florida, is the third for the Pennsylvania-based chain. A location in Westampton, New Jersey opened in 2020 with a drive-thru window added and the first drive-thru-only Wawa opened in Falls Township the next year.

Unlike traditional Wawas, the drive-thru location has no gas pumps, focusing instead on serving up hot breakfast sandwiches, coffee, new additions such as burgers, fries and a new line of beverages and, of course, the wildly popular signature customizable hoagies.

“Wawa has a long history of testing and innovating new store formats to provide the greatest level of convenience for our customers,” said Robert Yeatts, senior director of store operations. “With our new Largo store, we will continue to learn from this new format while gathering feedback from our customers and associates.”

What's so great about Wawa? Grab a hoagie, here's everything you need to know

How does a drive-thru Wawa work?

This Wawa is more like a fast-food restaurant. No gas pumps, no convenience store supplies, no lottery tickets.

The 2,200-square-foot store can serve 12 cars at a time, according to a release from the company for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Largo Wawa is open from 5 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

"The store is fully equipped with a built-to-order, fresh food kitchen featuring its signature hoagies," the release said, "and newest food innovations such as burgers and fries; award-winning Wawa coffee; the Sizzli, Wawa’s hot breakfast sandwich; Wawa’s new line of specialty beverages (hot, cold, iced and frozen); the Wawa Bakery; and Wawa’s beverage line of dairy products, juices and teas, plus packaged goods."

Wawa's hoagies may be the only sandwich that can rival Publix subs for devoted fans. They sell 80 million of them every year, the company said.

Where is the new drive-thru Wawa located?

The new drive-thru Wawa is at 2530 E Bay Drive in Largo, Florida.

Gas station or pizza parlor? Wawa adds pizza to its ever-growing portfolio of food options

Why the new Wawa format?

Wawa officials said in 2020, when the concept was announced, that with an "ongoing mission of providing convenience for customers, this innovative model is solely focused on drive-thru and curbside pickup service where customers can use state-of-the-art technology to quickly order Wawa’s most popular food and beverages, including value meals, combo meals along with coffee and specialty beverages.”

What is Wawa? Why is Wawa famous?

Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the standard Wawa offers all the things you'd expect from a convenience store — snacks, lottery tickets, drinks, tobacco, gas (at most locations), etc. — but they also offer a larger variety of fresh food than most fast-food restaurants such as their made-to-order, fan-favorite hoagies and the hot breakfast "Sizzli" sandwiches.

Wawas also are famous for customer service, scrupulously clean bathrooms, decent gas prices, free air for your tires and no-charge ATMs. They're a comforting presence for travelers and a community hub for neighborhoods.

In 2023, Forbes.com ranked Wawa at No. 20 in the list of America’s Largest Private Companies and included the company in the 2024 America’s Best Employers for Women and New College Grads list. Newsweek ranked Wawa No. 1 in the Convenience Category for their America’s Best Customer Service list.

What does "Wawa" mean? What is Wawa short for?

"Wawa" is an Ojibwe Native American word that translates, more or less, as “Canada goose." It's also the name of the town where this version of the company developed and where the corporate offices still reside. That's also why there's a goose on the company's corporate logo.

Where was the first Wawa store in Florida?

The first Wawa in Florida opened on July 18, 2012, in Orlando, across from SeaWorld.
