Our new single ‘La Gracia’ is out on June 28. The song was inspired by Lazaro’s first trip to Spain as a member of the band, co-written by Felix and featuring vocals by Grace Barbe singing in her native Creole alongside Melbourne flamenco artists Arte Canela.
“It became a very melodic song that we celebrated to. It’s an ode to our musical adventures and influences from a country we love touring in. It’s going to be a killer live.”
– Felix
“I was completely captivated by the dynamic exchange between the incredible Spanish crowds and The Cat Empire on stage during each concert in every city. It was truly something special. What started as a small idea quickly evolved into a song shaped by the creative contributions of each band member, dedicated to a remarkable country that has shown us immense love. Thank you, Spain. Olé!”
– Lazaro

saw them play in Manchester around 2012, it was one of the best live gigs I ever went to. the whole audience was jumping for the entire concert. Came out euphoric having lost my t-shirt and glasses. Awesome, don't miss them if you have the chance

We bought the tickets five months ago and would have loved to have attended but the risk of contracting Covid19 by being in a crowd of 600 people for hours in a club was too great. It would have been responsible and respectful to have postponed the show.
Awesome, really fun night. The Cat empire are one of the rare bands these days that are better live than on record! Our 5th time watching the cat empire and the never disappoint.
I wasn't overly thrilled about the venue, the layout was awkward and difficult to get a good view at the back due to the bar in the middle. The people - I don't think they were part of the crew but maybe friends or family of the band? Or of the crew? They were watching the band too- anyway they were on the lighting deck and were talking throughout the whole gig which was fine for most of the upbeat songs but during the more slower numbers it was quite annoying... Sorry, I sound like an absolute Diva but it was such a pain as the slower songs are really quite beautiful and you don't expect members of the crew to sit there having a chat about their day.

The Cat Empire announce final tour with original line-up
The group are set to reboot as “a re-imagined, vibrant, cross-cultural, and joyful collective of musicians and artists”
Melbourne ska legends The Cat Empire have announced their dissolution as a full touring band, saying that “a new incarnation” of the group will be debuted shortly.
The Cat Empire originally formed in 1999 with Ollie McGill on keyboards, Felix Riebl on percussion and lead vocals, and Ryan Monro on double bass. They expanded to a six-piece two years later, with Harry James Angus (trumpet and guitar), Will Hull-Brown (drums) and Jamshid “DJ Jumps” Khadiwhala (turntables) performing with the group since 2001.
The band announced this morning (September 16) that they’ve “made the decision to disband, and to make way for a new incarnation of The Cat Empire to come to life”.
In an extended statement posted to The Cat Empire’s website , they explained that Riebl and McGill will continue to lead the project as “a re-imagined, vibrant, cross-cultural, and joyful collective of musicians and artists”, with new music under the band’s name set for release in 2022.
After 20 incredible years of touring and making music together, we have made the decision to disband, and to make way… Posted by The Cat Empire on Wednesday, September 15, 2021
“We cherish our global audience who took us into their hearts, homes, venues and festivals, returning over and over to sing and dance with us,” the band’s statement continued.
“As we toured the world, our fanbase grew and so did we. The enthusiasm of our audience has sustained us through tough times and has kept us making and delivering music for all these years. We’ve met babies named after us, heard heart-warming and heart-wrenching stories about what our music has meant to people, and we’ve seen hundreds of tattoos of our logo on various body parts!”

The band made sure to note that their breakup wasn’t spurred on by any animosity or frayed relationships within the group, stating that they “leave each other with full hearts, healthy relationships, and a deep respect for each other and the musical journey we have shared together and with the world”.
The Cat Empire will perform one final run of shows in its current form this December, hitting stages in South-East Queensland, Perth and Melbourne. The latter performance will also be live-streamed on December 18. Tickets and details for all shows are available from the band’s website .
In addition, the band have announced an archival compilation titled ‘The Adelphia Sessions’, described as “a hybrid of select tracks” from their live albums ‘The Sun’ and ‘Live @ Adelphia’. The record is set for release in October, however a concrete date was not offered in the band’s announcement.
‘The Adelphia Sessions’ will also be released alongside two brand new songs, before their 2006 album ‘Cities’ makes its debut on streaming services in November.

Multicultural party-starters The Cat Empire are adding to their globally acclaimed discography next month with the release of Where The Angels Fall (out 25 August) and Aussie audiences will get to see the new material for the first time in September.
As we've said before , "The Cat Empire aren't so much a band, they're a live institution" and they'll be bringing their vibrant feel-good live show to venues in Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Adelaide, and Melbourne.
Arriving fresh from a nearly sold out 23-date run across UK and Europe, the group will show off their new record as well as all the fan favourites from their eight-album strong back catalogue.
From what we've heard so far, Where The Angels Fall is going to add plenty to the band's live show.
Brassy lead single 'Thunder Rumbles' was an explosive introduction to the new chapter of the band (featuring a relatively new line-up centered around founding members Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill ) while the latest cut, 'Money Coming My Way', is a stylish serving of salsa piano and punchy rhythmic swagger.
The full album promises to be an even more diverse brew of local and international sounds, featuring contributions from over 30 contemporary musicians. And you can bet The Cat Empire won't hold anything back when it comes to bringing it to life on stage for these upcoming shows.
Joining as support will be Coterie – four brothers from Aotearoa/New Zealand putting a smooth contemporary spin on classic sounds – and The Cat Empire's recent European opener, finger-pickin' song dynamo Steph Strings (playing all shows except Sydney where Roshani will step in).

Minneapolis wedge's 'cat tour' goes purrfectly again this year.
It was a cat-lover's dream Wednesday night in Minneapolis' Lowry Hill East neighborhood — known as "the Wedge" — where hundreds strolled the sidewalks to admire and cheer for cats positioned in windowsills and on porches as part of the seventh annual Wedge LIVE cat tour.
Audrey Cashmore, who lives with her husband in a first-floor apartment on Colfax Avenue, was holding up her cat Parsnip in the window to the delight of a dozen people who were taking pictures.
"It's unexpected but adorable; I love seeing people be excited about cats," she said.
Two stories above Cashmore, another of the apartment complex's tenants showed off a cat named Romeow, who was illuminated by the late-afternoon glow.
The cat tour is organized each year by John Edwards, founder of local news website Wedge LIVE. The tour started at Mueller Park, with a mob of people moving north on Colfax Avenue towards Franklin Avenue before looping back south on Aldrich Avenue. It included 22 planned cat displays at homes along the route, and featured many cats brought along in strollers, backpacks or on leashes. Some of the walkers yelled with joy when they discovered "bonus" cats being shown off by apartment tenants who had no prior knowledge of the event and held their cats up in the window.
Some of the cat owners put up signs to let the visitors know their furry friend's personality. Liz Greene, holding her 15-year-old cat Thumper on their porch, said this was her first time taking part in the tour after hearing rave reviews from friends.
"I thought, 'I have to do this,' and 'How cool is it I live in a place where other people appreciate cats, too?'" Greene said.
Asked what they enjoy most about the cat tour, several attendees said it's the sense of community that comes with exploring the neighborhood and chatting with others over their shared love of cats.
Some cats handled the massive amounts of attention and petting better than others. Brent Seager, who was holding his partner's 16-year-old brown cat named Truman, said he was proud of how calm the cat was despite having more than 15 people come up to pet him.
"He's scared of everything but he did very well," Seager said. "He is shaking a little bit now, though."
Edwards said he thinks this might be the largest turnout, and noted there were 22 people who signed up their cats for displays. Edwards said he's been amazed with the growth since the event began with just a couple dozen attendees.
"People sincerely enjoy it, and it has transitioned a bit from a joke to a sincere good time and a sweet event."

Annual 'Cat Tour' in Minneapolis Neighborhood Is the Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
F or cat lovers everywhere there's no weekend more special than the Wedge LIVE cat tour. The Minneapolis, Minnesota neighborhood has become well-known for their annual cat day, which brings hundreds of people to the area to celebrate our four-legged friends. And people online agree, it was a total pur-fect day.
MPR News shared just a snippet of the tour, which took place on Wednesday, June 26.
Amazingly, this is the seventh year that the Lowry Hill East neighborhood, known as "the wedge," held the cat tour. The footage shows one of the tour's organizers addressing the crowd on what to expect.

"We're going to be walking around the neighborhood shortly, spotting some cats ," he said. Although he did note that there would be some cats that weren't registered, calling them "bonus cats."
Twenty-two homes participated in the tour, which allowed visitors to view special cat displays. According to the Star-Tribune , the cat tour is organized by John Edwards, founder of local news website Wedge LIVE. Many locals joined the fun by bringing their own cats to the celebration in strollers, backpacks, or on leashes.
"It's unexpected but adorable; I love seeing people be excited about cats," local resident Audrey Cashmore told the news outlet. Cashmore lives in a first floor apartment on Colfax Avenue. She held her cat Parsnip up to the window, making the kitty a star to the many people who visited her home.
Two stories above Cashmore was another participant in the tour — a cat named Rainbow.
Online, people couldn't stop gushing about big event. And many people were upset that they hadn't heard about it sooner. "How does one go about organizing an event like this coz I literally need it?" one person wondered. "Why do I always hear about these things after they happen?" someone else agreed. "WHY DIDN'T I KNOW ABOUT THIS? I am not okay," a third commenter added. "This feels like a Stars Hollow activity," another person joked, referring to the fictional town in the hit TV show, Gilmore Girls.
Have no fear. There is a good chance that there could be another cat tour in the future.
Edwards told the Star-Tribune that this year's turnout was the largest they've had yet. It went from just a few participants to a huge celebration, so let's never say never.
"People sincerely enjoy it," he said, "and it has transitioned a bit from a joke to a sincere good time and a sweet event."

Other performers on the bill include Ice Spice , Sublime , Grimes, Lil Uzi Vert , J Balvin , Peso Pluma , Reneé Rapp , Jhené Aiko , Victoria Monét , Deftones, Bizarrap and Lil Yachty .

Who's headlining Coachella?
Del Rey's return to the festival marks a decade since her debut on the Outdoor Theatre stage. The 2014 set attracted a huge crowd that packed the area to watch the alt-pop singer following the release of her sophomore album, "Born to Die." She was scheduled to perform at the festival in 2020, but the event was canceled due to the pandemic.
Tyler, the Creator first appeared at Coachella in 2011 as part of the hip-hop collective Odd Future and performed as a solo act on the Outdoor Theatre stage in 2015. He performed again on the Coachella Stage in 2018 and appeared last year during Kali Uchis' set to sing "See You Again."
Doja Cat will return to the desert after her first time on the lineup in 2022, when she was joined by Rico Nasty for their hit "Tia Tamera" and Tyga for "Juicy." The singer released her latest album, "Scarlet," in 2023.
How to get Coachella 2024 tickets
Presale begins Friday at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, and registration for access to passes is open now at coachella.com . Organizers suggest that "for your best chance at passes, look to Weekend 2." Performances will be live-streamed, as in past years, on YouTube.
