The 2020 Journey is not a very good used SUV. Its cabin is full of cheap plastics, the third row is incredibly cramped, and cargo space is subpar for a midsize SUV . How does the 2020 dodge journey drive.

The only available engine for the Journey is an underpowered four-cylinder that struggles to bring the vehicle up to speed. Additionally, the automatic transmission hesitates to downshift.

The Journey provides a mostly gentle ride, but the SUV feels unwieldy around turns and suffers from a lot of body lean. Furthermore, the steering is imprecise and requires frequent corrections. All-wheel drive is not available.

How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2020 Dodge Journey?

This Dodge has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second-row outboard seats. The second-row middle seat has a lower anchor and a tether, plus the ability to borrow a lower anchor from the passenger-side seat. There are no tethers for the third row.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-lowest rating of Marginal for its ease of use. The tethers are hard to find and easily confused for other hardware, the middle anchor is hard to maneuver around, and the driver-side lower anchors are set deeply in the seats.

Dodge Journey 2022, a prueba: ¿vale la pena el SUV chino adoptado por Dodge en México?

A nivel global, Dodge parece haber dejado en el olvido a la categoría del Journey original, pero en México necesitaba un modelo para competir contra CR-V, RAV4 y compañía. De ahí nace el Dodge Journey 2022 , que en realidad es producto de la colaboración de Dodge con la firma china GAC. ¿Tiene lo necesario para triunfar en el mercado? ¿Volverá a ser el superventas que fue su primera generación? Lo tuvimos a prueba .

El nuevo Journey es otro de los hijos adoptados de Dodge en México. No es la primera vez que la marca aprovecha modelos de otros fabricantes para venderlos bajo su sello en nuestro país; está el caso, por ejemplo, de los Atos de Hyundai o del Attitude de Mitsubishi. El Journey 2022 proviene de una marca china, llamada GAC , que vende este SUV bajo el nombre de GS5.

Lo curioso es que, aunque el proceso de desarrollo y diseño se llevó a cabo en China por y para GAC, el estilo del nuevo Journey encaja con algo que veríamos directamente de Dodge, principalmente en la parte trasera, por sus calaveras de LED unidas por todo lo ancho de la tapa de la cajuela. ¿Tú también notas cierto parecido con Durango o el Chrysler 200? Al final, haya sido o no coincidencia su similitud con algunos modelos de Dodge , lo cierto es que nos encontramos ante un SUV que luce fresco y que, a diferencia de otros modelos provenientes de China, no tiene un diseño genérico.

Comparado con el modelo anterior, el Dodge Journey 2022 es casi 20 cm más corto , pero aun así, con un total de 4.69 metros de largo, sigue siendo uno de los SUV compactos más grandes de la categoría. Eso sí, ahora sólo está disponible en configuración para cinco pasajeros; ya no ofrece una tercera fila.

La calidad a bordo deja buen sabor de boca

Comencemos hablando de calidad. Lo que encontramos al interior del Dodge Journey 2022 sorprende, quizá no por ofrecer acabados exquisitos, sino porque realmente se encuentra al nivel de la categoría —e incluso un poco arriba—. Vale la pena mencionarlo porque otros SUV chinos suelen escatimar en la calidad de interiores, pero el Journey no.

Toda la zona alta del tablero va cubierta por un plástico de tacto gomoso , y buena parte de las puertas, del tablero y de la consola central van forradas en cuero. Hay algo de plástico rígido en zonas bajas, como la guantera, pero es habitual entre los SUV compactos. Los ensambles se sienten sólidos y no hay alguna pieza que denote falta de cuidado en el proceso de armado.

Otro aspecto que me gustó fue la posición de manejo, que —nuevamente— a diferencia de otros SUV provenientes de China, no tiene un volante demasiado inclinado ni se olvida de incluir el ajuste de profundidad. Frente al conductor hay un cuadro de instrumentos completamente digital con información relevante para la conducción; del lado derecho hay una pantalla de 8" para el sistema de infotenimiento , que quizá se queda algo pequeña para la categoría, pero la intención de Dodge era ofrecer una pantalla más grande —seguramente en el futuro lo hará—, sin embargo, la falta de semiconductores no le dio alternativa.

De la cabina, lo único que no me gustó fue el diseño de la consola central. Por un lado, su acabado negro brillante inevitablemente se rayará con el tiempo; por otro, lleva controles táctiles del lado derecho y la palanca de velocidades estorba para verlos desde el puesto del conductor.

Ahora sí, hablemos de equipamiento , una de sus cartas más fuertes. Esta versión tope de gama, llamada GT, lleva techo panorámico, espejo retrovisor electrocrómico, asientos delanteros de ajuste eléctrico y función de calefacción y ventilación, cámara de visión de 360º, climatización automática de doble zona, faros de LED, sensor de lluvia, freno de estacionamiento eléctrico con función auto hold y un amplio abanico de asistencias de manejo: luces altas automáticas, asistente de mantenimiento de carril, freno autónomo de emergencia y monitor de punto ciego.

La única ausencia que noté entre su equipamiento , por absurdo que suene, son los seguros automáticos. Es curioso, porque el Dodge Journey incluye una llave inteligente que desbloquea las puertas al acercarte al vehículo y lo cierra automáticamente al alejarse, pero al momento de conducir, los seguros no se cierran solos. Si no oprimes el botón, irás sin seguros puestos todo el camino.

Otro aspecto que vale la pena mencionar es la seguridad. Se lleva cinco estrellas en pruebas de choque en China e incluye múltiples asistencias y suficientes bolsas de aire... pero sólo a partir de la versión intermedia. La versión más accesible limita su seguridad a cuatro airbags , cuando el estándar de la categoría son seis.

Para terminar el repaso de la cabina, hablemos de espacio . Su buena distancia entre ejes deja muy buen lugar para piernas y para cabeza. Me atrevería a decir, de hecho, que el Journey es el SUV más espacioso de esta categoría, quizá a la par de Tiguan. Los asientos traseros se pueden reclinar al gusto del pasajero y hay puerto USB y salidas de A/C para la segunda fila.

Un SUV que lo apuesta todo al confort

Como marca, Dodge apunta hacia el alto desempeño, pero el Journey es la excepción en la gama. Este modelo lo apuesta todo hacia el confort, y eso se nota desde el primer segundo. Todas las reacciones son suaves , lo cual se agradece en ciudad, principalmente por la puesta a punto de la suspensión, que absorbe de maravilla los impactos con baches. La dirección se siente muy asistida, pero tiene un tacto ligero y responde con rapidez.

En carretera, el nivel de insonorización y la misma suavidad se traducen en trayectos relajados. Si buscamos una conducción más demandante , notaremos que lo blando de la suspensión se traduce en una notable inclinación de carrocería, que no llega a transmitir una sensación de inseguridad, pero sí rompe con cualquier aspiración a un manejo divertido. Es un SUV cómodo, que no pretende más.

Ahora bien, hablemos del motor: es uno turbo de cuatro cilindros y 1.5 litros , capaz de generar 169 hp y 195 lb-pie . El turbolag se llega a sentir principalmente en arranques desde cero, aunque tampoco lo calificaría de excesivo ni provoca arranques torpes; su "patada" comienza a sentirse en torno a las 2,300 rpm. La potencia me parece suficiente para los fines de este vehículo y para circular a buen ritmo en carretera. Ni le falta ni le sobra.

La transmisión responsable de enviar el poder al eje delantero es una automática de seis velocidades , desarrollada por Aisin, un proveedor de calidad internacional que trabaja con muchas otras marcas globales. De hecho, el Journey recurre a varios proveedores reconocidos, como Denso, TRW, Bosch y Continental. La caja trabaja correctamente y se agradece, sobre todo, que no se haya apostado por una CVT.

Finalmente, hablemos de consumo. En ciudad promedié 9.1 km/l , que me parece adecuado para el tamaño del vehículo y la potencia del motor. Se ubica en el promedio de rendimiento de su categoría.

Un SUV que gusta por cómodo y amplio

El Dodge Journey 2022 resultó ser el mejor auto chino que he probado, tan bueno que ni siquiera creo que valga la pena hacer tanto énfasis en que viene de China. Tiene toda la cobertura de Dodge a nivel nacional y tecnología que, sin ser de Dodge, convence en términos de infotenimiento, seguridad y comodidad.

La calidad de los interiores es sobresaliente, el espacio es muy bueno y aunque a nivel manejo no propone mucho, termina siendo cómodo, que a fin de cuentas es lo que buscan muchas familias. No hay motivos para pensar que, por ser chino, el Journey apunta más bajo que un CR-V, un Tucson o un RAV4.

Los precios del Dodge Journey en México van de 572,900 pesos para la versión de entrada y llegan hasta 664,900 pesos para el tope de gama que probamos. Los pros y contras de la nueva Dodge Journey

El arribo de la segunda entrega de Journey supone un cambio de 90 grados en construcción, linaje y capacidad ¿logrará atrapar a las familias mexicanas?

Ya la manejamos durante su presentación, así que aquí te dejamos los pros y contras que consideramos que tiene:

-Calidad de materiales de Journey

De entrada, el modelo es parte de una colaboración con la marca GAC en China, básicamente es una GAC GS5.

GAC posee gran reputación, por lo que el GS5 es un modelo con una calidad de materiales sobresalientes en su segmento.

En Journey no es la excepción, los ensamblados y materiales sobresalen por lo que se está pagando.

La consola central está terminada en negro piano y además de estar colocada la palanca de velocidades forrada en piel, tiene diversos controles como los modos de manejo, freno de estacionamiento electrónico, ventilación y calefacción de asientos.

-Calidad de marcha

Bajo el cofre de la Journey 2022 se encuentra un motor turbo con 1.5 litros de desplazamiento , inyección directa, sistema de apertura variable, capaz de desarrollar 169 caballos de fuerza y 195 libras-pie de torque.

Dicha motorización está acoplada a una transmisión automática Aisin de última generación con 6 velocidades.

Por su parte, la suspensión es independiente en las cuatro ruedas, con un esquema tipo McPherson para el eje delantero, mientras que el posterior emplea una arquitectura de brazos múltiples.

El resultado es una calidad de marcha bastante interesante, con un gran trabajo de la suspensión para favorecer la insonorización.

-Nivel de equipamiento

Para las versiones SXT y Sport, está disponible un cuadro de instrumentos análogo y una pantalla digital LCD de 7 pulgadas, mientras que para la variante GT el clúster LCD es de 12.3 pulgadas.

Por su parte, la pantalla táctil central es de 8 pulgadas, brindando todo tipo de información tanto del vehículo como conectividad vía Bluetooth, así como Android Auto & Apple Car Play de serie.

Así mismo, la cámara de reversa con líneas dinámicas tiene resolución HD y con vista envolvente 360° para las versiones Sport y GT.

-Seguridad en versión base de Journey

La versión de entrada sólo cuenta con 4 bolsas de aire, lo cual queda por debajo del resto de las versiones que ya añaden 6 de serie .

A pesar de ello, las demás versiones de Journey cuentan con 6 airbags y los sistemas de seguridad complementarios.

6 Cars Similar to the Dodge Journey

Families who needed the roomy Dodge Journey lamented the manufacturer’s decision to cease production in 2020. The serviceable three-seat row budget SUV had provided young families with many children an affordable option for two decades.

The 2020 Dodge Journey offered wide appeal since it let you configure the second and third row of seats to provide added cargo space.

Although auto reviewers lamented its outdated style, parents enjoyed the many storage cubbies throughout the vehicle as well as the fold-down seats that let them haul long items like two by fours.

In its final year of availability, Dodge ditched the V-6 engine option, leaving every buyer with a four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that generated just 172 horsepower.

Gas-powered SUVs aren’t known for getting the greatest gas mileage, but the Journey earns less than average miles per gallon – 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. That means it works well as a family car, but that’s about it.

Its price made it many families’ choice, since it remained affordable at $25,170. It never offered a bevy of safety features, such as the driver assistants today’s motorists have become accustomed to having.

The latest iteration of the Dodge Journey had just included a couple of driver assistants when Dodge ended the line. You can find alternatives to Dodge’s now-ended line.

Let us help you get started with a quick list of our favorites, starting with our top three, then providing the runners-ups.

Top Three Similar to Dodge Journey

1. hyundai tucson.

Presumably, you want a vehicle that costs about the same as the Journey. Hyundai delivers that with the Tucson, which costs just $23,700 for the base model.

Since the Journey excelled in configurability and organization, the Tucson beats it in most categories, including mileage, cargo space, and safety features. It equals the Journey in materials quality and engine performance.

Why It’s Similar to the Journey?

This South Korean manufacturer offers a family-sized SUV with similar rounded rectangle styling. It also offers a four-cylinder engine, but it creates 161 horsepower and 150-pound feet of torque.

Its interior uses some of the same materials in design as the Journey. You can upgrade trim levels to trade plastic and synthetics for leather, but this increases the price.

Vehicle Design Observations

You lose the third row of seating, so the Tucson seats five. You gain more cargo space although no SUV offered the nifty cubbies that the Journey did, including two second-row seat in-floor storage compartments.

The Tucson offers a 31 square feet trunk with 61.9 square feet of space when you fold down the rear seat. Its little engine isn’t designed for drag racing, but for stodgily lugging kids from one after-school activity to the next.

It provides an improvement over the gas mileage of the Journey though since it earns 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Speed/Time for 0 to 60 miles per hour:  9.3 seconds

Horsepower:  161 hp

Torque:  150 lb. ft.

Base Model Cost:  $23,700

Seating Capacity:  Five

Fuel Efficiency:  23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway

Towing Capacity:  2,000 pounds

2. Mitsubishi Outlander Sport LE

Mitsubishi offers another option that comes close to the Dodge Journey in price, starting at a base price of $23,995. This Japan export nets you better gas mileage though.

Even with the rear seats folded down, you’ll get far fewer cubic feet of cargo space than with other SUVs. If the base model does not float your boat though, the manufacturer offers a versatile seven trims, for of which get you all-wheel drive. 

The engine, transmission, and interior materials resemble that of the Journey. You’ll get similar horsepower and torque, so you get similar towing capacity.

The Outlander Sport LE doesn’t seat the same as the Journey. You can only accommodate a family of five in it. You do gain a number of trim levels so you can create the SUV you really want.

You automatically get front-wheel drive, but you can change trims to get all-wheel drive. The massive gas tank lets you drive for 498 miles without a refill.

Speed/Time for 0 to 60 miles per hour:  7.7 seconds

Horsepower:  148 hp

Torque:  145 lb. ft.

Base Model Cost:  $23,995

Fuel Efficiency:  24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway

Towing capacity:  3,500 pounds

3. Jeep Compass

Remember when US manufacturer Jeep only made expensive SUVs and the only SUVs? Times changed and now the venerable SUV manufacturer offers an affordable family SUV. The Compass costs about the same as Journey – just $23,895.

It gets Jeep-like mileage and offers less cargo space than the other alternatives. You lose the third-row of seats that the Journey provided. Choose from four trim levels to get the family Jeep you really need.

Its tiny engine and less-than-average fuel efficiency make it similar to the Journey, as does its styling. That is where the similarity ends. This SUV provides only slightly better in-town mileage, earning 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

The Compass comes in an array of ten colors, including an orange and a red. You don’t have to stick with the typical grays and white or black because Jeep offers a rainbow. You can only seat five in this smaller SUV.

Its four-cylinder engine puts out 180 horsepower and 175-pound feet of torque. The six-speed shiftable automatic makes it easier to drive and gives the look of a manual.

You can tow 2,000 pounds with the Compass while hauling a 1,000 payload. It offers a small trunk of 27.2 square feet, but that grows to 54.7 square feet when you fold the rear seats down.

Horsepower:  180 hp

Torque:  175 lb. ft.

Base Model Cost:  $23,895

Runners Up to the Top Three

4. Volkswagen Tiguan

You can try the Tiguan, paying only $26,295 for its base model. You will get seats for seven with this choice. It offers three seat rows. The engine compares to the others, but this vehicle drives more quietly than the others.

VW also includes numerous driver assistants that help make navigating in a larger vehicle easier. You may have a tough time nabbing one of these though since it currently ranks as the best-selling VW in the US.

It offers better interior materials and increased the number of features that come standard. This vehicle goes from 0 to 60 in 8.9 seconds, so your teen probably won’t beg for the keys to race it.

The Tiguan earns 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That makes it and the Outlander Sport LE the only affordable, seven-seater SUVs to earn at least 30 miles per gallon of gas.

5. Kia Sorento

The Kia entry hits so low on the list because it comes next to the furthest from the price of the Journey. Yes, it has three seat rows and yes, you can seat seven people in it, but at a cost of $29,390. That may place it about $5,000 above the price that some families find affordable.

The Sorento does provide a jaunty design and you can upgrade its engine to a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder. Choosing its hybrid option increases the price remarkably and it only offers 30 miles of electric driving. You could go electric for your commute.

Otherwise, the base model engine, a non-turbo 1.7-liter, four-cylinder engine, creates similar power as the others – 227 horsepower and 195-pound feet of torque.

The manufacturer offers an all-wheel-drive and a front-wheel-drive option. It earns 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. That makes the Sorento more suited to family vacations than the other affordable SUVs.

6. Ford Explorer

The American-made Ford costs about $10,000 more than the Dodge Journey. If the base model price of $33,745 doesn’t put you off, you can choose from five trim levels.

It does seat seven and offers many features in its base model that you would not get in most of the other entries. The base model uses a 2.3-liter engine of four cylinders. Choose from two drivetrains – rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The only transmission is a ten-speed automatic. The Explorer SUV earns 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The tiny trunk provides just 18.2 cubic feet, but when you fold down the rear seats, you carve out a massive 87.8 cubic feet of space. You can haul lumber in this SUV with the seats folded or a family of seven with them upright.

From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.
