a small boat in a body of water

This is what our Aria Cruises voyagers say ★★★★★

This was a memorable experience for our family. A half day (5 hrs.) sailing cruise on a beautiful catamaran boat. Captain Rob and his crew member Adam were friendly and were so easy and pleasant to deal with. Not only did they provide amazing customer service and entertainment they also acted as a tour guide giving us info on the island (Peel Island) amongst other things. What we liked best about our trip was that it had an easy going vibe and also the scenery and the many activities Aria Cruise offered. It was a fun and also a relaxing day and was a memorable experience for us as a family. Thank you Rob and Adam and Aria Cruises for this experience. We will definitely be back again with our friends and family!

Six members of my family, including a 1x 13 year old boy, and I had an absolutely amazing day on the water and on Peel island this week. The Captain and deckhand were lovely, the boat was fantastic, and the experience was something money could not buy. My family from Victoria were visiting us , and we don't often get together as much as we would like. A day out with Aria Cruises was an absolutely wonderful way of making lifetime memories. Thank you so much. We will definitely be returning and spreading the good word about our experience with Aria Cruises.

My team booked our work Christmas Party onboard Dream On and all I can say is it was one of the best parties we have had in a long time. The crew onboard added to the experience and looked after us. Amazing experience and will definitely book again and recommend Aria Cruises to the rest of our company for their teamparties.

This is the second year we have used Aria Cruises for our end of year Xmas work function. It is a fantastic get away from work as the Aria Cruises team look after everything. Food, boat, location. It's a very simple and easy step on step off work function to arrange and use. If you have less than 20 staff or can split days between departments this is a perfect option for a short work getaway.

We got this for my mum and her boyfriend as a Surprise for Christmas. They went yesterday and they can't stop raving about how good it was. My mum even got a photo with the skipper. I'm pretty sure they'll be back. This was one present that definitely did not disappoint.

Jacob was a wonderful Captain, we thoroughly enjoyed our day. The catamaran was a good size and our family had everything we needed. We especially loved the boom net on the way home. Nothing was too much trouble for the delightful crew. We are definitely going again.

We have cruised with Aria several times previously so knew what to expect. This time we were with friends and family and it was, as always, spectacular. On this occasion, Jacob was the skipper and Reuben was the deckhand. Both were fantastic!! We have all agreed to make this an annual event over the Christmas period.

Brisbane Waters cruise

Got a voucher for a cruise on the M V Lady Kendall II for my birthday, was a great day, 2 1/2 hours on the water. The captain had a sense of humor and was very knowledgeable about the whole area.

I choice a Starship Cruise 2.5 hour for my mother's 83rd Birthday as it was something for all ages to enjoy. The staff were very friendly from the time I booked. They were happy for me to bring a birthday cake and when we arrived they put it on a plate and supplied a knife (with a ribbon on it). The whole cruise sang happy birthday to my mother. The commentary during the cruise was informative. I can not say enough how friendly the staff are. Thank you for a great couple of hours.

brisbane waters boat cruises

We came here on our 15' Chrissy party. It did not dissappoint. The staff were lovely, the food was great and the whole team thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

My wife and I booked a 2 1/2 hour cruise on the MV Lady Kendall II. Although the boat is an older model, it was still comfortable and sturdy. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The skipper (Allan) gave an informative spiel throughout the cruise. Scott (I think that was his name) was very helpful and even assisted us in spotting the dolphin that was escorting us.

I and my wife spent a great time in M V Lady Kendall II cruise. Our cruise director was very helpful. The food was excellent starting from buffet lunch to dessert. I would love to book M V Lady Kendall II cruise again.

This is a very good cruise of Brisbane Water with an excellent commentary of the history and sites of Brisbane Water.

P&O Cruises to retire its brand in Australia, fold operations into Carnival Cruise Line

A large white cruise ship is parked at a berth.

P&O Cruises Australia has announced its fleet will soon be sailing to its final berth, ceasing its operations in 2025 after more than 90 years on the water.

The Australian travel brand will fold its operations into parent company Carnival Cruise Line from March 2025.

P&O's Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships and workforce will be rebranded and transferred to the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, while the Pacific Explorer, previously known as the Dawn Princess, will be retired.

Passengers set to cruise in 2024 will not be affected, while customers who had cruises booked on the Pacific Explorer after March 2, 2025 will have the option of a refund or credit for Carnival with extra onboard spending money.

It is the end of an era for the popular brand, which first sailed from Sydney on December 23, 1932, on a seven-day itinerary calling at Brisbane and Norfolk Island.

The company's first permanent ship in Australia, the Fairstar — heavily promoted as "the fun ship" — was part of the fleet for nine years until 1997.

P&O Cruises Australia issued its surprise notice to customers on Tuesday.

"As a result, all itineraries on Pacific Explorer scheduled to sail after 2nd March 2025 are being cancelled," it said.

"If you are booked on one of these itineraries you will be contacted by guest services in the coming days with refund details.

"We are all immensely proud of P&O Cruises Australia's 90-year heritage of dedicated operations in the region, and Carnival Cruise Line are honoured to carry forward its storied legacy and continue to deliver the same onboard experiences and itineraries."

Crews on the Pacific Explorer were expected to be redeployed to other ships, but a small number of workers in the P&O Australia head office would lose their jobs, a spokeswoman said.

Acting P&O Cruises Australia and Carnival Australia lead Peter Little will be retained under the new title of country manager.

The side of a large white cruise ship with a skyscraper in the background.

Carnival Cruise chief executive Josh Weinstein hailed P&O Cruises as a storied brand with an amazing team and lauded its accomplishments in Australia and the broader region.

"However, given the strategic reality of the South Pacific's small population and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs, we're adjusting our approach," he said.

The Carnival brand will see its fleet boosted by eight ships after also acquiring vessels from sister line Costa Cruises and ordering new ships to come into operation in 2027 and 2028.

Under the changes, Carnival will continue to be the largest cruise operator in the region with 19 ships, representing almost 60 per cent of the market.

The P&O ships will have technology upgrades, including an ordering app and loyalty program, but will retain the "familiar feel and much of the same experiences" for Australian guests, Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said.

Who owns P&O Cruises?

P&O Cruises is owned by Carnival Corporation & plc.

Carnival Corporation & plc owns a number of different brands including Carnival Cruise Line and Princess Cruises.

What does P&O stand for?

The initials P and O stand for "Peninsular and Oriental", an abbreviation of The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

After boarding, you have free time to relax before dinner. (D) Day 2 | St. Petersburg. This morning, proceed to the Winter Palace to visit the legendary Hermitage Museum, where you marvel at the vast collection of art, antiquities, jewelry and sculptures. After a picnic lunch, the rest of the day is at leisure to further explore St. Petersburg. Enjoy an early dinner, followed by an evening performance of traditional Russian ballet or opera. For a unique, privileged access experience, consider booking the Behind the Scenes at the Ballet excursion. For a video preview, click here. Or, spend additional time at the Hermitage, visit the vaults and learn from a Hermitage art expert on the Hermitage Behind Closed Doors excursion. Catch a glimpse here. (These excursions are optional and can be booked in advance, no later than 30 days prior to sailing. Limited space may be available for onboard booking, but cannot be guaranteed. Since these excursions run at the same time, it is not possible to book both.) (B, L, D) Day 3 | St. Petersburg.  Today’s excursion goes to the Pushkin area where you visit Catherine’s Palace, the elegant rococo 18th-century summer residence of the Russian Czars named for Catherine I (widow of Peter the Great). Tour its various halls, including the storied Amber and Agate Rooms, and see the ornate décor throughout. After lunch, embark on a city tour; see noted sights including St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Peter & Paul Fortress and Nevsky Prospekt. Dine aboard and enjoy an optional Russian folkloric performance this evening. (B, L, D) Day 4 | St. Petersburg.  Most of the day is free to see the sights that interest you. Visit one of the many palaces, churches or museums, or take an optional morning tour to Peterhof Palace, with its landscaped gardens, beautiful fountains and French Gothic interiors. Set out on a walking tour through the Open Air Museum of Architecture, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, see a collection of wooden houses, windmills and churches representing ancient Russian architecture, highlighted by the famous three-tiered Preobranzhenskaya (Transfiguration) Church—a fairytale-like structure built in 1714 without a single nail. Depart late morning and cruise through the night. (B, L, D) Day 7 | Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Continue cruising along the Volga-Baltic Waterway. This system of rivers and canals, spanning 229 miles and seven locks, links the Volga River with the Baltic Sea. Arrive in Kuzino, a typical Russian village. Take a guided walk through the historic Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, founded by Saint Cyril in 1397; see several small wooden chapels, the Assumption Cathedral and a museum. Or, see the Monastery and then visit a children’s art school and restoration workshop. Return aboard for an afternoon departure. (B, L, D) Day 8 | Yaroslavl.  Arrive mid-afternoon in Yaroslavl, one of the Golden Ring cities—ancient towns that preserve the memory of Russia’s historical events. Visit the Church of St. Elijah the Prophet, featuring detailed frescoes and icons. Here, you are treated to a stirring à capella choir performance. Then, take a guided stroll through the covered food market. Or, join an excursion to the Governor’s Palace, a living museum of Russian art, history and culture. Shop for handcrafted souvenirs before returning aboard for dinner and evening departure. (B, L, D) Day 9 | Uglich. After breakfast, disembark for a walking tour through the provincial village of Uglich, another Golden Ring city. See the former Kremlin of Uglich and visit the Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood, built on the site where Ivan the Terrible’s son Dmitry was mysteriously killed. Then a local family invites you into their home for tea and friendly conversation. Lunch served aboard; cruise through the night. (B, L, D) Day 10 | Moscow Canal. Moscow.  This morning, cruise along the Moscow Canal, approaching Moscow during lunch. Disembark for a half-day city tour. See the famed Bolshoi Theater and stop at Red Square for a view of the colorful onion domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral. You will also get the chance to explore the famous GUM Department Store and experience the city’s Metro. P&O Cruise Australia to shut down after almost a century of voyages

One of Australia’s most famous companies will be no more after a shock announcement today.

One of the most famous cruise liners to sail around Australia will be no more, with the shock announcement that P&O Cruises Australia will cease to exist from early 2025.

The family-friendly cruise brand will wind up operations after almost a century of voyages, its parent company Carnival Cruises announced on Tuesday.

Avid cruisers have told news.com.au they fear the “Aussie spirit” on board the beloved brand will be lost, with some fearing their holidays will never be the same.

The P&O Australia brand will instead be folded into Carnival Cruise Line, which has sailed across the South Pacific since 2013.

While the Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships, which are currently under the P&O banner, will carry on sailing under the Carnival name, the Pacific Explorer ship will no longer operate in Australian waters.

P&O Australia will be no more from early 2025.

A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise said current itineraries booked with P&O Cruises Australia will “operate business as usual” and guests will be “notified in the coming days” of any changes to future bookings as a result of the announcement.

Josh Weinstein, chief executive officer of Carnival Corporation & plc said the operating costs and the South Pacific’s “small population” had weighed in on the decision.

“P&O Cruises Australia is a storied brand with an amazing team, and we are extremely proud of everything we have accomplished together in Australia and the broader region,” Mr Weinstein said.

“However, given the strategic reality of the South Pacific’s small population and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs, we’re adjusting our approach to give us the efficiencies we need to continue delivering an incredible cruise experience year-round to our guests in the region.”

P&O Cruises Australia will continue operations until March next year before Carnival Cruises absorbs P&O customers on board one of their ships: the Sydney-based Carnival Splendour and Carnival Adventure, and Brisbane-based Carnival Encounter and Carnival Luminosa .

According to The Daily Telegraph , Christine Duffy — president of Carnival Cruise Line — travelled in from America ahead of the announcement, warning there would be job losses as a result of the decision.

“This is not an easy decision for the company to shut down or sunset the P&O Australia brand,” she said.

“We will continue to maintain an office here in Sydney. We don’t want to get into the numbers of people this impacts.”

Ms Duffy said there will be no immediate changes to the way passengers typically enjoy and experience a P&O ship, with “the same crew, the same entertainers, the same themed cruises and the same dining,” she said.

P&O Pacific Adventure will be folded and rebranded into Carnival Cruises.

It is understood alongside the rebrand, some of the biggest updates for passengers will be technology upgrades and other small changes to the ships.

“The most notable change will be the availability of our popular HubApp, enabling guests to make online dining and excursion reservations, request food and beverage delivery, and chat with other guests, among other features,” Ms Duffy explained.

“P&O Cruises Australia guests will also be invited to participate in Carnival’s loyalty program and promotional offerings specific to Carnival ships sailing in the region.”

It is understood that Carnival’s longstanding company executive Peter Little will

continue to lead the team in Australia.

P&O Pacific Explorer will fold into the Carnival Cruise brand.

As a much loved brand — especially among families — social media users were quick to share their sadness at the cruise brand’s closure.

“RIP P&O,” one wrote.

“So many memories on those ships,” another added.

“End of an era … Going on one this Friday better make the most of it,” another added.

“So sad to see the end of P&O – and especially sad to likely see the end of super cheap cruise prices.”

Avid Sydney cruiser Honida Beram who runs cruising blog Cruising with Honey and has been on more than two dozen P&O cruises in her lifetime.

Speaking to news.com.au, Ms Beram said the closure of the cruise brand was the “end of an era” and a “massive loss” for Australians.

There are fears the rebranding won’t give the same P&O vibe for passengers.

“The P&O legacy in Australia is synonymous with cruising in Australia. This is a huge loss, and the Aussie spirit will be lost in this amalgamation,” she said.

“P&O has made cruising accessible to families and for those at the lower end of market … given Aussies ability to holiday on a low budget and with low organisation.

“Carnival is the same price point but a very different type of cruising.”

Ms Beram said the biggest loss for her with the “Australian flare” the P&O brand offers to cruisers.

P&O Cruises are known as a popular family choice.

“I’m not sure how they [Carnival] will mirror that,” she explained.

“I think the P&O brand will be lost. When you go on a P&O there’s an instant connection and a laid back approach. You feel at home and comfortable.

“Carnival is a very different product to P&O. It’s a different vibe [so] it seems like there will be some mismatch there to bring people who are loyal P&O cruisers to go to Carnival.

What happens to current P&O Australia bookings

It’s perhaps the biggest question on the lips of many P&O cruisers who have bookings lingering in the next year or two.

What does this mean for current and future guest bookings made with P&O?

According to Carnival Cruises, business is “operating as usual and “there are no changes to any itineraries in 2024.”

While Pacific Explorer is leaving the fleet in February 2025, it is understood all guests with bookings that are affected are being notified this week.

“A small number of itineraries will be impacted on Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure as we transition the ships into Carnival Cruise Line operations,” the statement read.

“Our valued guests will be notified in coming days of any changes to bookings as a result of this announcement.”

A spokesperson from Carnival Cruises confirmed that guests booked to travel on the impacted itineraries have been offered a full refund or they can choose a Future Cruise Credit with bonus on-board spending money (value depend on length of cruise booked).

It was once a Queen of the ocean. But now, one of Australia’s most loved cruise ships faces a rather eerie fate.

A man strolling along a stretch of sand in Singapore has stumbled upon a creature some have described as the stuff of nightmares.

It’s a city often overlooked by tourists, despite having some very impressive views. And it’s so small you’re not allowed to drive through it.

Princess Cruises ships ranked by size from biggest to smallest — the complete list

A re you looking for the most venue-packed, resort-like Princess Cruises ships at sea? If so, you'll want to get on one of the biggest Princess cruise ships.

The biggest Princess cruise ships are, by their very nature, the Princess ships with the most onboard restaurants, bars and showrooms, as well as the most sprawling decktop pool and lounge areas. The biggest Princess ships have the biggest casinos and spas among ships in the Princess fleet and the most cabins and suites — as well as the most variation in cabin and suite types.

With room for 4,000 passengers or more, the biggest Princess ships are truly large resorts of the sort you find at the biggest vacation destination on land. If you're in the "bigger is better" camp when it comes to a resort experience, these are the Princess ships for you.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Still, Princess doesn't just operate large vessels. The Los Angeles-based cruise giant — the fifth largest cruise line in the world — also has several relatively small cruise ships in its fleet that carry just 2,000 or 3,000 people and have a more intimate feel. In some cases, these vessels are nearly 50% smaller than the size of Princess Cruises' biggest ships. These smaller ships, notably, have less deck-top pool space and fewer interior venues than the biggest Princess cruise ships. However, with fewer people on board, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The smallest Princess cruise ships are best for vacationers who like a more intimate, less crowded resort experience.

What is the biggest Princess cruise ship?

The biggest Princess cruise ship is the 4,300-passenger Sun Princess , which is also the line's newest vessel. It just debuted in February.

Sun Princess is the first vessel in Princess Cruises' new Sphere Class of ships, which have been designed to be much bigger and more venue-packed than the vessels in the line's last new series of ships, the Royal Class.

Sun Princess measures 177,882 gross tons, which is about 22% bigger than the biggest ship in the Royal Class (the 145,000-ton Discovery Princess). Royal Class ships range in size from 142,229 to 145,000 gross tons.

Note that gross tons is a size measurement referring to interior space, not weight.

A second ship in the Sphere Class series, Star Princess, is under construction at a shipyard in Italy and will debut in October 2025 .

For more details on Sun Princess, including what venues are on board and what it's like to sail on the vessel, see TPG's comprehensive first look at Sun Princess after an early sailing.

What is the smallest Princess cruise ship?

The smallest Princess cruise ship is the 2,000-passenger Coral Princess. Measuring just 91,267 gross tons, it's about 36% smaller than Discovery Princess, making it a significantly smaller vessel.

Coral Princess dates to 2002, a time when cruise ships were built far smaller than they are today and with far fewer venues. At 21 years old, it's also one of the two oldest vessels in the Princess fleet and will probably be phased out sometime in the next decade.

Related: The ultimate guide to Princess Cruises

While significantly smaller than the newest Princess ships, Coral Princess still has many of the signature spaces and venues found on new Princess vessels, including an Italian eatery called Sabatini's and a steakhouse.

Entertainment venues on Coral Princess include a relatively large main theater for production shows, a secondary lounge that offers comedy shows and other entertainment, and a casino. Like other Princess ships, the top deck of the vessel is mostly devoted to pool areas with hot tubs and lounge chairs. There's also a spa.

While smaller and older than the typical Princess ship, Coral Princess has a loyal following among Princess fans who prefer smaller and more intimate ships.

Are bigger Princess cruise ships coming?

It's not clear yet. Princess currently has one new ship on order, Star Princess. But the final size of Star Princess won't be known until the vessel debuts in late 2025.

Star Princess will be the second vessel in the new Sphere Class of ships at Princess. It's likely to be very similar in size to the first vessel in the series, the new Sun Princess. But it's not uncommon for each new vessel in a series to be slightly bigger than the one before.

Star Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone, Italy.

Note that this isn't the first time Princess has named a ship Sun Princess or Star Princess. Both are recycled names from past Princess ships. Princess operated smaller vessels under the Sun Princess and Star Princess names up until 2020.

What's the difference between bigger and smaller Princess ships?

The biggest Princess cruise ships have room for more onboard venues and attractions than smaller Princess ships. That makes them more alluring for vacationers who prefer a big resort experience with lots of options as compared to a stay at a smaller resort.

On the biggest Princess vessels, the Sphere Class and Royal Class vessels, you'll find the largest piazza-like central atriums in the Princess fleet surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants; multiple entertainment venues for live shows, comedy acts and more; and expansive pool decks with more space for sunning than you'll find on smaller Princess vessels.

You'll also find some only-on-the-Royal-class-ships extras, including, on some of the Royal Class ships, a glass-floored "SeaWalk" that extends over the side of the vessel.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Princess ship

Princess' smaller cruise ships also are generally its older cruise ships and lack some of the above features, which are more typical of newer ships. These smaller Princess ships have a more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships, and they hold fewer people.

While Sphere Class and Royal Class ships can hold more than 4,500 passengers with every berth full, the line's smaller vessels (particularly the relatively small Island Princess and Coral Princess) often sail with just 2,000 or so passengers on board.

That makes the smaller Princess ships a good choice for someone who wants to try Princess but isn't eager to travel with huge crowds. The smallest ships in the Princess fleet thus appeal to a subset of Princess fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They are also often less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis.

In addition, because of their size, the smallest ships at Princess Cruises are able to operate itineraries to places that aren't as easy for big ships to visit. Not all ports in the world can handle a ship the size of Sun Princess.

P&O Cruises to retire its brand in Australia

' src=

P&O Cruises Australia has announced its fleet will soon be sailing to its final berth, ceasing its operations in 2025 after more than 90 years on the water.  The Australian travel brand will fold its operations into parent company Carnival Cruise Line from March 2025.

P&O’s Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships and workforce will be rebranded and transferred to the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, while the Pacific Explorer, previously known as the Dawn Princess, will be retired.

The company’s first permanent ship in Australia, the Fairstar — heavily promoted as “the fun ship” — was part of the fleet for nine years until 1997.

P&O Cruises Australia issued its surprise notice to customers on Tuesday.

“As a result, all itineraries on Pacific Explorer scheduled to sail after 2nd March 2025 are being cancelled,” it said.

“If you are booked on one of these itineraries you will be contacted by guest services in the coming days with refund details.

“We are all immensely proud of P&O Cruises Australia’s 90-year heritage of dedicated operations in the region, and Carnival Cruise Line are honoured to carry forward its storied legacy and continue to deliver the same onboard experiences and itineraries.”

Carnival Cruise chief executive Josh Weinstein hailed P&O Cruises as a storied brand with an amazing team and lauded its accomplishments in Australia and the broader region.

“However, given the strategic reality of the South Pacific’s small population and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs, we’re adjusting our approach,” he said.

The P&O ships will have technology upgrades, including an ordering app and loyalty program, but will retain the “familiar feel and much of the same experiences” for Australian guests, Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said.
