Guatape and Avocado Farm Tour

Guatape and Avocado Farm Tour: all in one great day, book now!!

Guatape and avocado farm tour an enlightening experience

lisa

Most of us love avocado but have you ever wondered how long does it take to grow a tree?

Or have you ever planted an avocado tree or harvested one fruit with your hands?

In this amazing Guatape and Avocado Farm tour in one day you will learn that and much more about avocado together with visiting the stunning rock and the beautiful Guatape town.

Guatape and Avocado Farm Tour Itinerary

All our tours are private and include pickup and drop off.

So we start from your place at the time that is more convenient for you.

Then, we head east of Antioquia to start with our first delicious stop.

Exotic Fruit Tasting

Colombia is the most diverse country in the world in fruit production, as we grow over 430 fruits throughout our territory.

This is why we think we should take you to a fruit stand to try some of them.

In this short stop we provide you different exotic fruits you probably didn’t even know existed, with intense sour or sweet flavors.

Guatape and Horseback Riding, Guatape and paragliding tour

These are some of the fruits we could try in our fruit tasting included in this Guatape and Avocado Farm Tour.

How many of these exotic fruits have you tried? Wait no more and try them with us, you never know if you will have another chance in the future.

After delighting the palate with these exotic fruits we are ready to head to our second stop: the avocado farm.

Avocado Farm Tour

From the fruit market we continue our journey for around 50 minutes as you see amazing views through the window.

Once we get to the farm,  our hosts, a beautiful couple greets you warmly with a delicious avocado dessert, where you discover new tastes and uses to this fruit.

avocado tour in Medellin

And then we start the educational tour learning first about what is needed to grow an avocado tree and actually doing it in a germinator where you learn the time line from planting to seed to harvesting.

guatape and avocado farm tour

After planting your own seed we continue learning about the required conditions to grow avocado (elevation, seasons, ph of the soil and more) as well as the threats like plagues and diseases.

And then we start a hands-on activity where our host teaches you how to make a delicious avocado jelly that you can use in multiple food preparations with all the benefits of the avocado.

Avocado Plantation

Then in the plantation we look for an avocado ready to be picked following our host instructions.

PIcking avocados

Our last activity in the field is planting an avocado tree.

So first, you need to mark and clean the area and then dig a hole to insert a baby plant and hopefully you will have an avocado tree that you are than welcome to visit in the future 🙂

Planting and avocado tree

Lastly, to reward your effort of planting a tree our host gives you a cold and refreshing avocado lemonade.

Also you have the opportunity to buy some avocado subproducts that they produce like oil for the skin care or seed powder.

There are also cute socks, pijamas and more avocado related products available.

Avocado subproducts you can buy at the farm

After refreshing and saying goodbye to the avocado farmers we head to the next stop, the imponent rock of Guatape.

Climbing Up The Guatape Rock

At this massive rock you get the chance to climb up it. It’s 749 steps and 50 minutes approximately to go up and down.

Guatape tour

Once you reach the top, you can stay up there for as long as you wish as you witness one of the most beautiful views you have ever seen.

This is not only our opinion but that of hundreds of tourists we have taken there.

However, our Guatape and Avocado Farm Tour still has more to offer.

Our next destination is Guatape, one of the most colorful and picturesque towns in Colombia.

Guatape Town The City of Zocalos

At this town we take a fully narrated walking tour through the town’s landmarks: church, main square, remembrance street, Zocalos Square and more.

avocado travel tour

If you like shopping this is a good place to do it since there are a lot of hand crafted souvenirs and all kind of items to bring back home.

After we finish our visit in this beautiful Guatape town we head back in our comfortable private car.

This is a tour full of good memories and new knowledge about avocados and the culture of this region that will leave you very satisfied.

We also have a Guatape Tour with coffee farm or with more combinations available in our website.

A TALE OF TWO SISTERS ______________________________________ (...And The Enchanted 'Cado Seed) ONCE UPON A TIME, in a land far far away called California... there were 2 sisters named Anne and Mary Spriggins. They were spry, poor millennials living with a dairy cow and 2 iPhones in a farm cottage. The cow's milk was their only current #side-hustle. When dairy milk lost its market appeal to Almond; Soy; Cashew; Coconut; and Cat Milk, Anne asks Mary to sell the cow at the Mercado. On the way, Mary's Uber driver named Ben (along with ride-along: Jerry) offered 3 magic beans in exchange for the dairy cow, and Mary makes the trade. When she arrives home without any money, Anne becomes angry, throws the beans to the ground, and sends Mary to bed without her iPhone. During the night, the magic beans cause a gigantic beanstalk to grow outside Mary's window. The next morning... because duh... the girls climb the beanstalk to a place high in the sky. There, they find an enormous castle and sneak in to take some selfies [#pics or it didn't happen]. But Mary was #woke to a childhood tale about a scary Giant... cannibalism... and larceny gone wrong... so they overcome their #FOMO and climb back down the beanstalk as fast as they can. When they reach the ground, they cut down all but a 3-foot length of beanstalk with an axe. The next morning, giant avocados started blossoming from the remaining stalk, and the sisters called their avocado farmer friend Jason Mraz to help them harvest. Each time they picked one, a new one would grow. They could now have Avocado toast for life! YAAAAAS. Jason explained that the beans from the Uber driver were from the Hass Mother Tree of La Habra Heights -- and all Hass avocados trace their roots back to her. Mary and Anne decided that, if people would believe them... their story needed to be told. They asked Jason to narrate. He found some #lameAF "Captain and Tennille" cassette tapes, which he gladly recorded over. Next they bought all the green paint in 3 Home Depots and got to work. A pop-up museum was born, and the rest is history. Pro tip: this immersive seed-to-toast art experience features SoCal's finest bumpy-skinned fruit. Here, you can hear Jason tell the story, visit with Hass Mother, and bring home your own enchanted 'cado seeds. But hurry... it all ends Sept. 22. After that, your #FOMO struggle is real.

I have been to other pop up museums and this is by far the smallest. It's a mini art installation at best. They don't really have anything to do that makes the admission worth it. You can walk through the whole thing in 10 minutes. Spend your money on some avocado toast instead.

Photo of Yonnie C.

We came to this experience today and it was informative and educational via the tour provided by Mary & Anne. At $19 per adult, it's quite pricey for only 6 rooms. Very fast to get through it. Disney's pop-up in April 2019 in Anaheim was $38 per person, so this place is about half of that price. The installations are not really about Instagram worthy photos, but more of a small museum to learn about the history, fun facts and participate in a guided tour. We did win the "avocado peel" guessing game though! There's a prize that comes with winning. You get some free avocado tattoos too. Friendly owners. We were the only people visiting the museum in the afternoon on a Saturday, but I guess we are nearing the end of their pop-up debut, which ends 9/22/2019! Hurry in before they are gone! I think they'll announce their next destination to pop-up soon.

If you live in California, there's a good chance you know guac is extra, you put avocado on everything, and you eye roll at anyone who doesn't understand your infatuation with this fleshy fruit. So when I heard about the world's first avocado pop up museum (via Yelp), you already know we got tickets faster than you can say "holy guacamole!" Beginning as something of a guided tour, we listened to Jason Mraz's audio cassette in a group, then proceeded to guess which avocado was ripe, based on how it felt and looked. From here, we were able to venture off on our own to explore the various art installations. We got the opportunity to play cornhole in the avocado's "center," delve into avocado history directly from the Hass family, and discover ways to save the planet and be a better human being! I love the aesthetic and the fact that's it's interactive, great for all ages! Only downfall is the execution. Our tickets were for 1015-1030, but we weren't allowed to enter until almost 11; not sure if this was to avoid getting crowded inside or if they wanted to wait for a larger group of people before they started the tour, but it's not fun waiting outside in nearly 100 degree weather. Truly a California experience, thank you!

All hype. Not worth the money. I bought this thinking it would be an awesome experience but it really wasn't. The marketing was good though tbh. They fooled me big time.

So YES! After a year wait we finally made it to the Cado... We loved it. I LOVE that it has a focus on education and art, the informative tour guides (who are actually co founders!) did a wonderful job of sharing their knowledge of avocado history in California and I absolutely wish them the best.. I hope it travels up to NorCal soon! It's in a very new space, next to a cider bar and a fresh greens cafe, so you can end your trip with a healthy serving of fresh avocado. Anne and Mary, thank you for a wonderful evening event! I loved that the museum is focused on the environmental aspects of growing avocado and has a very cool artistic vibe... I can't wait to see it expand to other parts of the state and the West!

Photo of April H.

I absolutely love avocados so when I heard there was going to be an avocado popup I had to get tickets. First I want to stay that the staff was fantastic. I liked the information and I thought the part where you had to guess what skin had the most ideal ripeness was fun. I just wish there was more. More what, I don't know.... just more.

Photo of Erica Q.

We wanted this to be so much for than what it was, but what can you expect? They are avocados. Yes, everyone loves them, but I don't think this was worth the $19 admission price. The people there were super nice and informative. We went through the whole thing in about 15 minutes and then hung around for another 10 just to try to get our money's worth in photos. Save your money. You can literally see the entire museum on social media. The photos you see, that's all there is. They have these cute bags for purchase, which I think should be included with admission. They do offer a small discount at the cafe next door with proof of admission and a sample of cider at the place next door. Still not worth it. Sorry to say, we would never go back or even refer a friend. :(

Photo of Crista C.

When I finally got to experience the CADO- it was nothing that I am capable of imagining. Anne and Mary are so creative, they go above and beyond with everything they do (just ask to see pics is their Stranger Things Halloween party). The museum was an awesome "must see" and the location was perfect - get to San Marcos, visit Urge, Newtopia (my new favorite cider/brewery), and get your avo on! PS- I was able to pick the correct "ripe" avocado skin, which is how much I LOVE avocados.

Grounded by the Farm

Want to take an avocado farm tour? Sit down and enjoy the ride.

avocado farm tour grounded by the farm

Our host was a woman known in social media circles as Mimi Avocado . Mimi showed me around as her husband, son and others were busily working to care for the trees on the farm outside of San Diego, California.

Hope you enjoy learning about growing avocados from a farm family who proudly grows them. You can even order some to be delivered from this farm directly to your door via CaliforniaAvocadosDirect.com .

Young Avocado Trees

First up on the avocado farm tour for us was young avocado trees. The family plants trees regularly as they want to maintain the productivity. As we looked at a nursery field of newly planted trees, Mimi pointed out how the shiny leaves are a good sign they are healthy and getting enough water, etc. Young trees will produce blooms and try to grow fruit but for a couple of years they have growing to do before they can really contribute to yield so the farm has a routine for replacing trees that allows them to keep producing year after year.

avocado flowers

What Avocado Flowers Look Like

Once trees get taller, more leaves and branches, the fruit (both blooms and the avocado that will ultimately be picked) grow in the sun. It’s really different from a lot of other tree nuts (including our beloved pecans ) and fruit trees in that it has blooms on it for one year while fruit is also ready to be picked. That tropical nature is pretty cool. The blooms have a bright yellow to them while avocados can be a bit camouflaged in all the greens of the tree.

But dang there were lots of them!

Caring for Mature Trees

mature avocado trees

I love that avocado trees are always shedding leaves and putting on new ones though I’m not sure I’d love it if I had one in my yard. It is kind of convenient to have all the leaves on my trees drop in just a couple of week period.

More on Avocados!

The new podcast episode with Mimi talking all things avocado will be coming out tomorrow so check it out in your favorite podcast app or come back and listen to it here.

Mimi has a fantastic website mimiavocado.com with lots of information about avocados — recipes for all the avocado dishes you can imagine, some glances around the ranch/farm, and based on a conversation I had she may have put this one together on how to freeze avocados — I also find chopping them up and putting them (airtight) in the fridge makes avocado toast so dang easy for days!

You can join me in ordering avocados from the farm via californiaavocadosdirect.com .

And you may enjoy a few photos and video from the first avocado farm tour I ever took — it was at Mimi’s years ago!

Michigan Central Station tours: How to visit Ford's renovated train depot

avocado travel tour

You may have missed your first opportunity to visit the renovated Michigan Central Station , but there are still plenty of dates it will be open to the public.

The Michigan Central Open experience at the train station, located at 2001 15th St. in Detroit, is just getting started and will chug along through the summer, offering plenty of chances to experience Ford's transformation of the train depot.

Here's what to know.

Michigan Central Station initial public tours

The first 10 days of public open house tours at Michigan Central Station, running June 7-16, are sold out . Those visits required advanced registration that is now closed.

Guests will explore the first floor of the building during an immersive experience. There will be activations, storytelling, artwork and shareable moments.

If you got tickets to this set of tours, be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your entry time. Tickets allow visitors to access the station within 30 minutes of the ticket window. Guests should expect to be in the station for no more than one hour.

Can I tour Michigan Central Station if I didn't get tickets?

Don't worry if you missed out on the first set of tours running June 7-16; public tours of the train station will resume June 21 and will run Fridays and Saturdays through the end of August.

What's the cost for weekend Michigan Central Station tours?

No registration is required. People may visit the station from 5-9 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The building will be closed to tours on the other days of the week until September, when expanded public hours will be announced.

How do I get to Michigan Central Station?

Major events can drive plenty of traffic in the Corktown area. Several  roads will close  throughout the reopening event, but visitors can choose from nearby street parking, free parking in the 1501 Wabash St. garage on a first-come, first-served basis, riding the bus through the Detroit Department of Transportation, e-scooters or ridesharing.

What's next for Michigan Central Station after reopening?

After reopening festivities, Michigan Central will begin a "phased reactivation" of the train station for several months as restaurant, retail and other commercial and community-focused partners fill the space.

Hold the passport! Fizzlestix in Perry Twp. takes diners on Tour of Fries

P ERRY TWP. − Fizzlestix Kitchen and Bar , located at 3242 Lincoln Way E in Perry Township, redefines the humble potato with 16 imaginative twists on french fries.

I was finally able to coordinate my schedule with my son, Raymond, and his friend, Spencer, so we could indulge in a gastronomic adventure and each order unique hand-cut french fries.

It was a perfect Ohio day, sun shining and not too hot, so we chose to sit outside on the patio. Our server, Heidi, was welcoming and friendly. She has only been working at Fizzlestix since October, but was happy to offer suggestions.

Fizzle Fries are available to order individually ($3.99), but we each chose the flight, or "Tour of Fries." Diners can choose three ($9.99) from 16 creative options. We were ready to embark on this crispy, potato-focused expedition.

720 Market news: 720 Market expands with new Stark County events

Raymond chose the reuben fries (pastrami, sauerkraut and thousand island), animal style fries (animal gravy, bacon and topped with a fried egg) minus the bacon, and Mexican street fries (Mexican street corn, chipotle mayo). He thoroughly enjoyed the reuben fries, which he said had just the right amount of ingredients to complement the fries, with the Mexican street fries taking a close second.

He disliked the Animal Style Fries, mentioning that the animal gravy was pretty bland. Perhaps the bacon would have made a difference.

Spencer chose the New Jersey disco fries (gravy and mozzarella cheese). Not familiar with disco fries? Being from New Jersey, I’ll share the history. A creative adaptation of Canadian poutine (french fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), the Tick Tock Diner in Clifton, New Jersey, began serving tipsy club goers the gravy-and-cheese-coated fries in the 1940s. The fry combo really became popular in the mid-1990s, as 2 a.m. partygoers fresh out of the disco and ready for some drunk munchies would order the disco fries, giving them just enough substance so they could make it to work later in the morning.

Send your food truck info: Calling all food trucks! Tell us about your business

He also ordered bacon mac n cheese fries (you guessed it − macaroni and cheese with bacon) and garlic cheese fries (cheese sauce and garlic aioli). His top chose was the bacon mac n cheese fries, with the garlic cheese fries a close second. (Sorry, New Jersey.)

When it was my turn to order I decided on the nacho fries (cheese, pico de gallo, jalapenos, avocado crema), the buffalo chicken ranch fries, and the BBQ pulled pork fries (pulled pork, red onions and more BBQ sauce).

I thoroughly enjoyed my nacho fries as well as the spicy flavors of the buffalo chicken ranch fries (although there was very little chicken to be found). The BBQ pulled pork fries were good but paled compared to the others.

In general, Fizzlestix Kitchen and Bar is a creative change-of-pace local spot if you’re in the Perry Township area. The large goblet cocktails (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are served over dry ice for an eerie effect and are crawling with a variety of gummy bear candies or gummy bear worms. Kids of all ages love them.

Burgers are on the menu, as well as weekly specials, such as $1 off burgers on Thursday and an $8.99 burger feature. The restaurant also offers a Tour of Burgers so you can choose from a blazin’ burger, sasquatch, pierogi burger and more.

Appetizers are creative, as well, including bacon wrapped pickles (pickles stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and topped with barbecue sauce, $9.99) or Philly steak egg rolls (sirloin steak, peppers, onions and cheese hand rolled in won ton wrappers, $9.99).

Gluten free options (substitute gluten free buns or corn tortillas) are offered, and pizza and ribs are on the menu. There is something to please everyone.

As I collected the bill, I asked Heidi what were the most popular Fizzle Fries? It was no surprise that one was the loaded fries (cheese and bacon), but the truffle fries (hot truffle aioli, garlic aioli and parmesan) surprised me. I made a mental note to try them next time.

Jennifer Lopez cancels 2024 tour This Is Me: 'Completely heartsick and devastated'

avocado travel tour

Jennifer Lopez has canceled her summer North American tour , which was to be her first in five years, weeks before she was scheduled to go on the road.

The pop star made the announcement Friday in her On The JLo fan newsletter.

"Representatives for Live Nation announced today that the Jennifer Lopez US Summer 2024 Tour 'THIS IS ME...LIVE' is canceled, citing ... 'Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends,'" the newsletter reads.

The statement was followed by a personal note , "A Special Message to My JLovers OnTheJLo."

"I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again," Lopez wrote. "I love you all so much. Until next time..."

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

USA TODAY has reached out to Live Nation for comment.

Lopez's first show of the tour had been slated for June 26 in Orlando, Florida.

This Is Me... Live announcement comes after seven tour dates were canceled

The announcement comes weeks after several shows on the tour were canceled without explanation. According to Ticketmaster, Lopez's scheduled performances in Nashville, Tennessee; New Orleans; Raleigh, North Carolina; Atlanta; Houston; Cleveland and Tampa, Florida would no longer take place.

"Unfortunately, the event organizer has had to cancel your event," the message for those pages reads.

This is Me...Live was a 30-date arena tour that was going to feature Lopez's chart-breakers and classic hits from her discography, like songs "On The Floor," "Let's Get Loud" and "Jenny from the Block." Her most recent tour in 2019, the It's My Party tour, sold out venues across the country.

The tour was in support of her new album, “This is Me … Now,” which released in February. The record was accompanied by an Amazon Prime musical movie, “ This is Me … Now: A Love Story ."

Speaking to USA TODAY earlier this year about "This is Me ... Now" possibly being her swan song, Lopez said, "This was going to be the quintessential thing I have been searching for and wanted to say about love."

"I’ve been on this search for so long, since people first met me and my first record came out and even before that in my first movie role, where I’ve been on this journey trying to figure this thing out for myself. This (album) kind of closed the loop in a way,” she said. “It captures this moment to really say the things I want to say about love, and that is that true love does exist and some things are forever. Please don’t give up on that because that’s all that matters in life … love.”'

Bennifer timeline: Their love story spans two decades, two engagements

Separate outings have fueled speculation about marriage with Ben Affleck

Lopez's announcement also comes amid widespread speculation about her marriage of nearly two years to Ben Affleck.

After various media reports suggested Lopez and Affleck may no longer be living together, the Hollywood A-List couple has been increasingly under the microscope, with media prying over their whereabouts and whether both are still wearing their rings.

On May 16, Lopez and Affleck were photographed together for the first time in over a month, with each spotted wearing their respective wedding rings.

The two were engaged to each other twice: first in 2002 then again in 2021. The couple got married in a late-night ceremony in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, which Lopez called "the best possible wedding we could have imagined."

This is the second marriage for Affleck and the fourth for Lopez.

Tour refunds for JLo tickets

Tickets will automatically be refunded, according to the newsletter.

Fans who purchased from third-party sites such as SeatGeek, StubHub and VividSeats should reach out to those websites for refunds.
