Las Vegas has always been home to the biggest names in the entertainment business. And now one of the biggest names over the past 60 years is coming to the Strip.

Barbie: A Cultural Icon will debut October 22 and run for close to 3 months inside The Shops at Crystals. The exhibition will display the very first Barbie doll produced in 1959, then lead visitors through her changes through the decades, paying homage to Barbie and the world around her.

The exhibition will also feature more than 150 vintage dolls, artifacts, and life-sized fashion pieces that will come to life, and videos and interviews with Barbie designers will expand the story.

“We are excited to partner with Illusion Projects to bring Barbie: A Cultural Icon to Las Vegas,” Julie Freeland, senior director of location-based entertainment for Mattel, said in a statement . “Barbie is a brand that has evolved through generations, and we can’t wait for fans of all ages to take a journey through time with us.”

The display is expected to tour after its Las Vegas run, but organizers felt Nevada was the perfect place for the launch.

“So much of the entertainment and fashion culture of Las Vegas is mirrored in the generations of Barbie,” said Pete Housley, exhibition executive director. “The Barbie exhibition is perfectly positioned in the middle of The Shops at Crystals alongside many of the world-famous fashion brands that Barbie has worn through the decades.”

This is something new for The Shops at Crystals, a location even many residents of Las Vegas are not familiar with. Much like the more famous Forum Shops at Caesars and the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, The Shops at Crystals features dozens of high-profile stores.

Located in City Center between Aria and New York New York, the shops feature 49 luxury retailers like Christian Dior, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Tag Heuer, and more.

“Barbie has an amazing and inspiring history. There is a real sense of nostalgia when you see what was happening in the world, and in Barbie’s world, when you were a kid — and then follow the story to how she’s impacting our world today,” said Tim Clothier, CEO of Illusion Projects Inc.

Pre-sale, discounted tickets for the exhibition are $49.95 for adults and teenagers, $39.95 for seniors 55 and older and members of the military, and $29.95 for children ages 3–12.

Barbie exhibition description.

Explore the world of everyone's favorite ten-inch tall fashionista with Barbie: A Cultural Icon - The Exposition at the Shops at Crystals. This unique experience offers a colorful and thorough history lesson about this pop culture phenomenon that spans decades.

Travel back to 1959 to find out how this itty-bitty blonde beauty took the world by storm. What makes this exhibition truly unique is the bird's eye view it offers of the world's changing culture through the lens of this singular children's toy.

Your tour starts with the original design that features demure, downcast eyes, housewife fashion, and the most intricately made miniaturized doll accessories we've ever seen. From that striped bathing suit style, Barbie has evolved through the decades to highlight the most important parts of each era. The 1970's Malibu Barbie changed the body design to bright, forward-facing eyes, a glowy suntan, and an open-mouthed smile that continued to be the basic face design for the next few decades. When the feminist and civil rights movements began to rise in the United States, Barbie was the first company to make a black doll to show support for desegregation in the 1960s.

Throughout Barbie's lifetime, she's been a doctor, a president, a pilot, and an astronaut, showing girls from multiple decades that there is no limit to what women can do.

Barbie has been on the cutting edge of culture and fashion throughout her time on department store shelves, and Mattel continues to update her design to be a positive role model for future generations.

So snap a few photos of your favorite doll or take a seat in the Barbie dream house because at Barbie: A Cultural Icon, we're all  Barbie girls in a Barbie world.

Barbie doll exhibition tour coming to Strip

Promoters say the event will honor more than 60 years of fashion and inspiration.

"Barbie: A Cultural Icon," the first Barbie doll exhibition to tour in the United States, will ...

Hello, dollies. And welcome to the Strip.

“Barbie: A Cultural Icon” will launch in October inside The Shops at Crystals, 3720 Las Vegas Blvd. South, according to a news release.

It will be the first Barbie doll exhibition to tour in the United States. Promoters say the event will honor more than 60 years of fashion and inspiration.

The exhibition will display the very first Barbie doll produced in 1959 and lead guests through the decades, paying homage to Barbie and the world around her, the release said. It also will feature more than 150 vintage dolls, artifacts, and life-sized fashion pieces that will come to life through tastefully custom-themed displays.

Video media and interviews with Barbie designers will expand the narrative.

Barbie has made news in the Las Vegas Valley this summer. Dr. Audrey Sue Cruz — a local medical physician, wellness advocate and lifestyle blogger — was one of six new Barbie dolls added to the Mattel lineup that were dedicated to “modern real life heroes of the pandemic.”

And a Barbie Pop-Up Truck made stops this past summer in Summerlin and Henderson.

‘Barbie: A Cultural Icon’ exhibition coming to Las Vegas in October

In partnership with creative design and production company Illusion Projects, Mattel has announced that “Barbie: A Cultural Icon” — the first Barbie doll exhibition to tour in the United States — will launch at The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas in October with additional tour dates to come.

Barbie: A Cultural Icon Exhibition

The new exhibition will showcase Barbie’s six-decade evolution into a global icon — her status confirmed by the fact that few people don’t know who Barbie is, whether or not they played with the iconic dolls themselves. For me, it’s twofold: I was certainly a Barbie fan as a kid, but my mom also went to high school with Barbara Handler, the daughter of then Mattel owner (and Barbie’s namesake).

“Barbie has an amazing and inspiring history. There is a real sense of nostalgia when you see what was happening in the world, and in Barbie’s world when you were a kid — and then follow the story to how she’s impacting our world today,”  said Tim Clothier, CEO of Illusion Projects Inc.

Barbie: A Cultural Icon - Barbie honors frontline workers

Barbie has always been at the intersection of fashion and pop culture and continues to represent global diversity by showcasing a multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion. Named the 2020 Top Global Toy Property of the Year by the NPD Group, the brand engages consumers through new product innovation, cultural relevance, digital dialog, and the celebration of female role models. Barbie also received the Board of Director’s Tribute at the 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards and has served as a creative inspiration to more than 150 designers.

Barbie: A Cultural Icon - Barbie history

To honor Barbie’s 62 years (though she certainly doesn’t look her age), the exhibition will display the very first Barbie doll produced in 1959 and lead guests through the decades, paying homage to both Barbie and the changing world around her. The exhibition will also feature custom-themed displays featuring 150+ vintage dolls, artifacts, and life-sized fashion pieces, as well as video media and interviews with Barbie designers.

“We are excited to partner with Illusion Projects to bring Barbie: A Cultural Icon to Las Vegas,” said Julie Freeland, senior director of location-based entertainment at Mattel. “Barbie is a brand that has evolved through generations, and we can’t wait for fans of all ages to take a journey through time with us!”

There’s no better place for an exhibition honoring a global fashion iconic than The Shops at Crystals, a collection of 50 of the finest luxury brands in the world, including Louis Vuitton, Gucci , Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Hermes, Fendi, and Chanel.

“So much of the entertainment and fashion culture of Las Vegas is mirrored in the generations of Barbie,” said Exhibition Executive Director Pete Housley. “The Barbie Exhibition is perfectly positioned in the middle of The Shops at Crystals alongside many of the world-famous fashion brands that Barbie has worn through the decades.”

Pre-sale tickets are $49.95 for adults and $29.99 for children ages 3-12. Pre-Sale vouchers can be redeemed for tickets starting Oct. 10, 2021, and are valid through Jan. 15, 2021.

OK, so I've never seen Neil in concert, but this guy was great. The look, the moves, the hair, the clothes, the voice! Seriously, unless you are a fine connoisseur of Mr. Diamond's music, you would not know the difference in the voice. Multiple times I would close my eyes and just LISTEN, and this guy hit the nail on the head! (hit the Neil on the head?). • Khudd 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A little loud, a little lacking Rob Garrett has been singing Neil Diamond songs for 29 years and does a good job of representing Diamond's career well. He's very knowledgeable about the man's history, variety of songwriting talent, and career path. His band is also very talented: he has a "true" rock n roll guitarist who kept the beat going throughout the show; also not to be overlooked is the keyboardist who handled multiple aspects of the production. Rob himself, who does an impressive job of looking a lot like Diamond himself, sang a wide array of songs from the legend's career, including some of the most popular, of course. For us, the volume was a little much for the size and acoustics of the room. Additionally, after performing the same music for 29 years, maybe some of the spark has died as something seemed to be lacking from the performance, at least to us. Read more Written April 7, 2024

Aqua announcing Barbie World Tour, stopping in Las Vegas in December

world of barbie tour las vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Life in plastic, it's fantastic, at least according to Aqua.

The band behind the hit song "Barbie Girl" has announced their Barbie World Tour. The song has gotten a boost recently thanks to the hit Mattel movie starring Margot Robbie. Rappers Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice sampled the song for a new track for the film's soundtrack.

"We've been working for this for 27 years! Performing two sold-out shows in New York City and Los Angeles this summer was a dream come true," the band said in a statement. "To be able to come back soon for a nation-wide tour is absolutely insane. We cannot wait to meet everyone for the first time, face-to-face."

Keyboardist Soren Rasted said fans may only know "Barbie Girl" but they also have other catchy songs.

"We didn't have any other hits in America. We put "Lollipop (Candyman)" out as the second single and it never worked," Rasted said. "It was a bit disappointing because in America, suddenly we became a one-hit-wonder band."

Aqua's Barbie Girl tour kicks off in Seattle in November. They're scheduled to perform in Las Vegas at the House Of Blues, which is at Mandalay Bay, on Dec. 19.

Ticket start at $65. Pre-sales start on Monday, Aug. 28 with the code word TRACK.

‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua has seen a resurgence in recent months due to the buzz around the Barbie movie.

While the track did not feature directly on the star-studded soundtrack , a reimagined version was recorded by Nicki Minaj  and  Ice Spice , which sees the pair sample original snippets of the Aqua classic.

It was previously reported last year that Aqua’s version of ‘Barbie Girl’  would not feature in the film , but star Margot Robbie was apparently insistent on it featuring.

“I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there.’ And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it,’ ” recalled Robbie in a feature with Rolling Stone .

She continued: “And then, when she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”

Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ wins Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival

“Anora,” a widely admired knockabout comedy about a New York strip-club dancer (Mikey Madison) and her impulsive affair with a Russian oligarch’s wealthy son (Mark Eydelshteyn), has won the Palme d’Or, the most prestigious award granted by the Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Sean Baker, whose prior two features, 2017’s “The Florida Project” and 2021’s “Red Rocket,” also debuted at Cannes, “Anora” represents the first Palme victory by an American filmmaker since Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” took the prize in 2011.

Writing about “Anora” from the festival, Times deputy entertainment & arts editor Matt Brennan described the movie as “so electric, it’s liable to leave you levitating.”

Accepting the award, Baker was forthright in his love of the theatrical experience and scathing in his appraisal of “half-paying attention” on streaming, which he called “just not the way, although some tech companies would like us to think so.” He added, “The future of cinema is where it started — in a movie theater.”

The six best movies we saw at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival

We stuffed as many movies into our Cannes schedules as possible during the last two weeks. Though there was much competition, here’s what stayed with us.

May 25, 2024

This year’s Cannes jury was headed by “Barbie” and “Lady Bird” filmmaker Greta Gerwig, a proud cinephile who was anticipated to spread the wealth generously. She did so, in collaboration with her jury, a group that included the actors Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Eva Green (“Casino Royale”) and directors Hirokazu Kore-eda and Spain’s Juan Antonio Bayona.

The Grand Prix, Cannes’ runner-up award, went to Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine as Light,” India’s first film to compete in three decades. A special prize was created for Iran’s Mohammad Rasoulof, whose political thriller “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” a daring effort made in secret, was predicted to prevail in many quarters. “Grand Tour,” an evocative period drama set in several Asian countries, took the directing prize for Portugal’s Miguel Gomes.

Cannes’ acting awards, which don’t typically honor supporting performances, were also bestowed generously this year. The best actress prize went to the women of “Emilia Pérez,” co-starring Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña and trans lead Karla Sofía Gascón, who shared the honor jointly. The best actor prize was won by Jesse Plemons for his work in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness.”

Demi Moore, a strong acting contender for her nightmarish Hollywood aging fantasia “The Substance,” did not prevail, although her film, a festival-rousing standout, won the screenwriting prize for its director and writer, France’s Coralie Fargeat.

(Gray News) - Nicki Minaj was arrested in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport while on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, according to reports.

The ‘Super Bass’ rapper appeared to be detained after she posted a video, lasting over three minutes, discussing her arrest with an Amsterdam police officer.

In the video, one official said that they wanted to take the rapper into custody for “carrying drugs.”

“I’m not going in there. I need a lawyer present,” the rapper replied.

The officer continued, “We’ll get (you to) the next show.”

Minaj replied, “So, I’m under arrest. For what?”

Minaj then posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the officers found “weed” and that they took her bags “without consent.” She also admitted there was marijuana but that it belonged to her security staff.

Minaj is scheduled to perform at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester Saturday night, NBC News reported.
