August 18, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm.

werq the world tour ottawa

RuPaul’s Drag Race WERQ THE WORLD, the largest drag show on earth, will stop by The Arena at TD Place on August 18 as part of its 2023 World Tour.

Set in a dystopian future, the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race must choose between the real world and the artificial world they have come to know. The 2023 show delivers an all-new Sci-Fi production specially designed for large venues and arenas.

“We’ve really elevated the show this year with a cohesive storyline that weaves theatre into large scale concert style performance. It’s a multimillion-dollar production that rivals the largest popstars in the world,” says Brandon Voss, the show’s producer.

“WERQ THE WORLD is the official RuPaul’s Drag Race tour for a reason,” says Jon Norris of Voss Events. “It is the biggest, most spectacular drag show on the planet. The music, sets, fashion, choreography and lighting in this production are like nothing fans of drag have ever seen before.”

The North American cast will feature Asia O’Hara, Bosco, Daya Betty, Deja Skye, Jorgeous, Kandy Muse, Lady Camden, Laganja, Naomi Small, Plastique Tiara and two finalists from Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The Australia and Asia cast will be Aquaria, Jaida Essence Hall, Kim Chi, Naomi Smalls, Plastique Tiara, Rosé and Yvie Oddly. The Europe and Mexico cast will be Angeria, Aquaria, Bosco, Daya Betty, Ginger Minj, Jaida Essence Hall, Kandy Muse and Rose.

Standing at Concerts

Standing and Dancing at Concerts: DPAC is proud to welcome all types of concerts to our stage. Sometimes during the course of a concert performance, audience members will show their enthusiasm by standing and dancing, especially when encouraged by the performers to do so. Unless directed by the show, we do not ever enforce a must sit policy at concerts. For most concerts, this would not be acceptable to the performers on stage who often love it when the crowd is moved enough by the performance to stand. This is especially true for rock shows and for seats closest to the stage.

Please know that DPAC does not have a “no standing” policy and in most situations will allow guests to stand even if they block the view of the stage for other guests. If your view is ever blocked by a standing or dancing guest, please contact an usher and we’ll attempt to find alternative seating.

  • In addition to purchasing online, DPAC offers several other ways to purchase the seats you want to the best Broadway, concerts, comedy, family shows and special events in North Carolina.
  • Our computerized ticket system enables you equal access to great DPAC seats whether you buy online, by phone, or in person at DPAC.
  • For more details, visit our  Purchase Seats  page for complete information on purchasing great seats for all events at DPAC.
  • All tickets for DPAC events are fully digital and only accessible via your mobile device.  A mobile ticket is the safest, most convenient, and flexible way to receive and manage your tickets while increasing protection against fraud. To learn more about mobile entry, please visit our  Mobile Entry FAQ .

Video Screens

Currently, this event has not approved using our video screens.  Please feel free to check back closer to the event for updates. If approved, we will post notice here.

For many concert, comedy, and special events at DPAC, we offer added views of the stage with two big screens (size: 16’ x 9’) hung to the sides of the stage or above the stage. These big screens can add to the visual experience of our concert, comedy, and special events and give guests seated farther from the stage what we like to call “a tenth row view”. Approval to use these screens always rests with the visiting show and about half of all concert and comedy events do use these screens.

VIP Package

Recruiting mailbag: Georgia or Michigan — which national title model is harder to replicate?

Recruiting mailbag: Georgia or Michigan — which national title model is harder to replicate?

Recruiting never stops. Neither do your questions. Let’s get right to them.

Note: Submitted questions have been lightly edited for clarity and length.

Ari, what do you think it will be harder to duplicate: Winning the national title following the Michigan blueprint (recruiting classes in the teens, development and transfer portal) or winning it all without adding a single transfer like Georgia did two years ago? — Rodrigo A.

This question turned me into a pretzel and would have caused me to pass out if it had been asked in 2020. I don’t think there is a question that could unintentionally illustrate how much the sport has changed in the last few seasons more than this one. You know it’s a good one when the answer requires deep thought and a little bit of flip-flopping.

Ultimately, I believe it will be harder for a team to win a national title without taking a transfer in the future. Why? Because you can count on one hand how many teams recruit enough talent to even attempt to do what Georgia accomplished. It was a recruiting juggernaut that had accumulated so much talent that there was no need to fill any holes. There were no holes. There is nothing other programs can learn from or do to assemble a roster the way Georgia has done during the Kirby Smart era. You can, however, attempt to accomplish what Michigan did.

The problem with this answer is this: I still think Georgia and teams like it are far more likely to win the national title than teams like Michigan because of their ability to recruit elite high school talent while also taking luxury pieces in the portal.

werq the world tour ottawa

Recruiting mega-classes like Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama have done is always going to be important, but the job doesn’t end there anymore. Those mega-classes will certainly still exist, but top-level high school players are more open to signing with non-traditional powers. And when those top-level prospects do sign with Georgia, Ohio State or Alabama, they’re now more likely to leave earlier in their careers for a better deal or more immediate playing time.

That makes it almost impossible for teams like Georgia and past Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama teams to have as much depth as they did five or 10 years ago. That, of course, creates holes on rosters and the need to backfill those holes through the portal. Heck, look at how many portal additions Ohio State made in this past cycle despite how well it has recruited in recent years. Even recruiting juggernauts need boosts in the portal now.

Michigan and Washington played for a national title last season. Michigan won it all after beating Ohio State and Alabama along the way. I would have previously told you the Wolverines couldn’t defeat both in the same season based on how college football used to work. It doesn’t work like that anymore.

That doesn’t mean I think what Michigan accomplished is easily replicated. What Michigan did was one of the most remarkable things I’ve seen covering this sport — starting with high school evaluations, some top-tier recruiting and very effective additions through the portal. Getting that perfect cocktail mix is no easy task. But everyone is going to try it now.

As a result, it’s more likely we see another national champion that recruits in the top 15, evaluates at an elite level, maintains and develops a veteran roster, sprinkles a few five-stars into the starting lineup and nails it in the portal.

If you’re a lowly rated high school player, are you better off going to a smaller program where you can play sooner and then transfer to a big program based on that performance? In the age of name, image and likeness and unlimited transfers, it doesn’t seem wise for a lower-rated player to go ride the bench at a top program that will constantly bring in transfer players ahead of them. This seems particularly true for QBs. — Anonymous

I view it the exact opposite way.

If I were a lower-rated high school player, I’d go to the biggest program possible right out of the gate. Old worries about making a 40-year decision and the penalties that came with transferring no longer apply. You don’t like where you signed? You can rectify it with impunity as soon as you like.

There are plenty of Jared Verses out there who weren’t big-time recruits, went to a smaller college and transferred up — and it worked out great in the end.

But why would someone intentionally go that route? If the ultimate goal is to transfer into a big-time program one day, why wouldn’t you just sign with the big-time program? If that program is offering you a scholarship, that means the coaches believe you have the potential to play. Go there, enjoy top-level coaching, amazing player benefits, incredible facilities and work your tail off. If you get to that place and you’re not good enough, you have the very easy option of transferring to a school that better suits your skill set.

Actively choosing to go to a smaller school — when you have options to play somewhere more prestigious — with the intention of transferring later is weak. That means the player doesn’t fully trust his ability, right? And when you break it down, there are as many unknown circumstances that could arise at a smaller school that could prevent you from completing that plan as there are circumstances that would lead to you never playing or being recruited over at the bigger place.

What if you go to a smaller school and get injured? Struggle in school? Aren’t as good as you thought? What if the transfer class is really deep at your position when you want to leave? There are a lot of ways your plan can go off the rails, too.

The ability to transfer with ease is a huge benefit for those who want to take the big swing. In the past, signing with a school with a loaded depth chart could derail your entire career. Now it’s a beautiful opportunity to go compete somewhere with the best of the best and really get an idea of how good you are and where you stack up. Also, being a transfer from a big-time program without tape is often just as appealing as someone who played really well at a lower level. Players leaving big-time programs get the benefit of the doubt.

Take your shot, work hard and see where things land. Transferring, in my opinion, should be a backup plan. Not the primary one.

With the transfer portal being so prevalent, do you think recruits take their signing out of high school less seriously knowing they can openly and easily leave at any time with tons of other options? — Adam C.

This pairs well with the question above. I don’t think they take it less seriously, but they are certainly more willing to take risks. Atypical destination? Stacked depth chart? The hurdles aren’t as scary as they used to be when it comes to choosing a school. If you swing and miss, you can swing again in a year. That lessens the gravity of signing a national letter of intent.

Ari, you frequently criticize Deion Sanders for wasting recruiting potential by not going on more school/house visits. What other coaches do you think are wasting recruiting resources (personality of the coach, proximity to talent, etc.), and what coaches maximize said resources the best? — Sam W.

I don’t want to relitigate the whole Sanders discussion but do want to make it clear that I believe Sanders did a very good job getting a lot out of his first Colorado team considering where the program was when he took over. My disappointment in Sanders is that he’s not using his top qualification  — stardom/fame — to the fullest potential in his pursuit of high school football talent. It’s not that he has done a terrible job building the program. In fact, you can say he has done a good job. It’s that he is seemingly giving very little effort to the high school piece, which, to me, is a clear giveaway that he doesn’t plan on being there very long. Quick turnaround? Portal. Program health/longevity for a real, true rebuild? High school. Sanders didn’t visit a high school in the last cycle, but he had plenty of time for his book tour.

go-deeper

Why Deion Sanders is not maximizing his potential at Colorado: Recruiting mailbag

I’m not sure there are many coaches out there who fall into the “not trying” portion. Sanders is such a unique figure in this sport, it really is hard to draw parallels between him and his potential and other coaches. If Colorado had any other coach, we wouldn’t be focusing on the program this much. But Sanders is a star, and I thought he truly wanted to build something with staying power there. His behavior indicates otherwise.

That said, my mind drifted right to USC when considering your question. When Lincoln Riley took over, I thought the Trojans had a really good chance to build a legitimate West Coast powerhouse. I thought USC would clean up in California, land five-star quarterbacks and other elite players and take the college football world by storm. That hasn’t happened. In fact, USC has been smoked in its own region in the area of talent accumulation. Now, part of that may be because USC isn’t in love with some of the highly ranked players in its area, but here’s a snippet from Antonio Morales’ story from Wednesday that I found jarring :

“No Trojans assistant coaches were at St. John Bosco’s college showcase two weeks ago. Does USC have its reasons for that? Likely. St. John Bosco doesn’t have a ton of highly touted recruits in the 2025 cycle, but when there are already questions about the Trojans’ local recruiting, it probably helps to stop by. Especially at the high school program that’s been one of the top talent producers in the state.”

It doesn’t matter if one of the best high school programs in Southern California doesn’t have any elite players. USC has to be there every single chance it gets. Not showing up to that showcase blows my mind, especially after the program just signed only one of the top 12 players in the state of California in the 2024 cycle. Oh, and it’s been only a few weeks since five-star cornerback Dijon Lee of Mission Viejo (Calif.) High  — one of the best defensive prospects in the country in the 2025 class — didn’t even include USC in his top four. Bananaland.

USC does have a top-five class in this 2025 cycle. It has three five-star prospects committed, each from the state of Georgia, which is really hard to do. That’s a very nice start for Riley as he’s desperately trying to turn the program around. But it would be nice to see USC dominating in its own region, which I always believed was the imperative part of USC’s build.

This is a nice transition to a program I think does a really good job maximizing its recruiting resources: Oregon.

Despite not having any talent in their backyard and being forced to recruit nationally, Dan Lanning and his staff have the Ducks in countless high-profile recruitments. The Ducks raid California and do an impeccable job in the transfer portal. In this new age of college football — where a team can recruit a top-15 class and transfer portal its way to national contention — I think the Ducks are in a prime spot heading into the Big Ten and the 12-team College Football Playoff era. Of course, NIL has a lot to do with it. But when it comes to resources, the Ducks get results, which is part of the reason why they are unquestionably the best program on the West Coast right now.

I thought Riley and USC were going to win that war. Right now, they are losing. Bad.
