3 Day Scotland Itinerary

scotland three day tour

Scotland is a land of myth, legend and history, where ancient peaks reach for the skies and deep glens hold secrets of a bygone age. Vibrant cities are rich in culture and rural wilderness areas allow you to escape from the rat race and the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Is it is possible to explore Scotland in 3 days? Yes, it is. While you will need a lot longer to truly get to know this beautiful and fascinating country, this 3 day Scotland itinerary will allow you to see some of the most famous and interesting sites and get a brief introduction to the wonders that Scotland can bestow.

Want to know exactly what to do with 3 days in Scotland? Check out my Scotland itinerary below.

You will begin your 3 day Scotland itinerary in Edinburgh, before making your way northwards to the Scottish Highlands, and on to the much-lauded Isle of Skye.

Day One: Explore Edinburgh

Edinburgh is Scotland’s enticing and exciting capital. It is a place that changes swiftly not just from year to year but from day to day. It is a city of quick-changing mood. One moment it can cloud over and feel atmospheric and full of ghosts. At the next, the sun can shine, the crowds come out, and it feels like the vibrant, cultural haven that it has become.

Where To Stay in Edinburgh

There are plenty of accommodation options in Edinburgh, so suit any budget. Those with a tight budget can camp nearby, or stay in one of the city’s lively hostels.

Those who want to get to know the city as locals know it can stay in one of the city’s many B&Bs, or stay in a private dwelling through AirBNB.

If you are looking for luxury, many grand hotels also await. Explore all the top rated hotels in Edinburgh here.

Fun Things to do in Edinburgh

If you don’t want to miss all the must-see attractions in Edinburgh I recommend starting early.

In the early morning, begin your explorations of the city by hiking to the top of the hill in the heart of the city: Arthur’s Seat .

Climbing over the Salisbury Crags and up to this summit in the early hours of the day will give you stunning views out over the Old Town and the New Town that lie below.

Victoria Street in Edinburgh Scotland

Descending once more, visit Holyrood, the seat of Scottish Government at the Scottish Parliament Building and the historic Abbey that lies nearby. Nearby you will find the beginning of the famous street known as The Royal Mile.

This historic route runs all the way up through the Old Town area of the city and is lined with myriad historic attractions. Walking this route and visiting many of the museums and historic sites that lie along it is essential for all first-time visitors to the city.

In summer, during the famous Edinburgh Festival & Fringe, the Royal Mile comes alive with shows and entertainment as people throng here from all over the world.

The Royal Mile leads visitors slowly up to the city’s crowning attraction – an emblem of Scotland which holds a dear place in the hearts of its residents – Edinburgh Castle . Spend some time exploring this ancient structure and learning some of the stories that make this city the place it is today.

Here are the highest rated and most popular tours in Edinburgh:

  • Edinburgh: Underground Vaults Tour
  • Edinburgh: Royal Attractions with Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours
  • Edinburgh: Chocolatarium Tour, Tasting & Chocolate Making
  • Harry Potter Magical Guided Walking Tour in Edinburgh

Day Two: Edinburgh > Glencoe

On the second day of your brief Scotland tour, you will make your way from Edinburgh to the historic city of Stirling, gateway to the Scottish Highlands, where you can see another of the country’s most dramatic and fascinating castles, as well as a number of other historic sites.

Your next port of call will be the bonny banks of Loch Lomond, in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Loch Lomond Scotland

Enjoy some lunch in the historic town of Callander or along the banks of the Loch before you venture northwards on the A82 – one of the most attractive roads in the country. This route will lead you up through Crianlarich and Tyndrum and onwards and upwards onto the breathtaking Rannoch Moor.

After crossing the stunning, mountain-ringed plateau, you will bear left and sweep round into the famous valley of Glencoe.

At Glencoe, you can camp, stay in an affordable hostel or a indulge in a more luxurious accommodation option for the night before you continue for the final day of this short itinerary.

Glencoe Scotland

Day Three: Glencoe > Isle of Skye

Venturing forth from Glencoe, you will continue on through the rugged, mountainous landscape. At Fort William, if you have the time, you can take a look at Scotland’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and perhaps also take a short detour to enjoy a trip to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous as part of the route of the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films.

Book your tour on the Hogwarts Express and Scottish Highlands here.

Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland

Book your tour:  Hogwarts Express and the Scenic Highlands Day Tour from Inverness

Continuing on the A82, you will travel up the Great Glen and find yourself on the banks of Loch Ness, the famous home of the Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie, as she is sometimes known. Whether or not you catch a glimpse of this mythical beast, you can see the historic remains of Urquhart Castle .

Next, you will make your way west, to cross the bridge onto the Isle of Skye.

Old Mann Storr Scottish Highalands

Here you can enjoy the majestic Cuillin mountains, and explore Scotland’s myth and legend at the magical Fairy Pools. Here, many waterfalls plunge scenically into a series of pools.

Fairy pools in Scotland

Skye is the largest island of the inner Hebrides, and there is plenty to see and do here for those interested in history, both man-made and natural.

Again, you will find a range of accommodation options, ranging from the affordable and rustic to the sophisticated and luxurious, so you are sure to find somewhere suitable to spend the final night of your brief tour.

If you have time, Scotland has far, far more to offer. This is not a country that you can see all of on only one brief trip. Consider extending your tour by continuing to the north and taking the road trip route known as the North Coast 500, making your way up and round to Inverness.

Before you return to Edinburgh , you may also like to visit Cairngorms National Park , another highlight of the country, where you can enjoy ancient forests and soaring peaks before you make your way back to the capital.

Discreet Scotland

Luxury private tours of scotland, tour of the highlands, 3 day tour.

Our 3 day Highlands tour is designed to capture the very essence of Highland life. We visit castles, wild mountain landscapes, Lochs and Glens, where the turbulent history comes alive. You will hear the story of these tough, fearless warriors who lived in this part of the country for thousands of years, who called this rugged landscape, home.

Find the full tour itinerary below or download the itinerary  (slight changes are necessary during the winter period) .

Glenfinnan Viaduct

Tour Itinerary

  • Our first stop is the mighty Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument. This commanding position at the foot of the Highland boundary has been fought over for thousands of years as a strategic point to control the entire country.
  • We continue north/west into the mountain wilderness to visit Etive Mor, an extinct super volcano known locally as “the Shepard of Glencoe”. Here we turn off the beaten path into Glen Etive for spectacular scenery and hopefully spot Red Deer in their native habitat.
  • Next stop is Scotland’s most desired spot, Glencoe. Towering mountains on all sides and a bloody history make this an unforgettable experience to all who visit.
  • Our final port of call is the town of Fort William at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. (Fort William will be our overnight stop).
  • We start the day with a visit to Thomas Telford’s engineering masterpiece; Neptune’s staircase. Constructed 200 years ago it’s part of the Caledonian Canal System. This series of 8 locks lifts boats some 70 ft from the sea level to Loch Lochy above.
  • We then head west to Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel for one of Scotland’s finest views. Here we will see the Glenfinnan Viaduct which features in Harry Potter movies and the Jacobite memorial.
  • Next we turn back to Fort William for a tour of Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery. You will learn about Scotland’s famous “water of life” and sample a dram or two.
  • We continue north to the Commando Memorial, one of Scotland’s most iconic war memorials, dedicated to the British Commandos who trained in the region. With magnificent views over the Nevis range which includes Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
  • Our final stop will be the mighty Loch Ness. Here we visit the historic remains of Urquhart Castle and you have the option to take a cruise on the Loch and hopefully catch a glimpse of the illusive Nessie herself. (Inverness will be our overnight stop).
  • We start the day with a visit to Culloden battle field where the British government troops fought the Jacobite army in 1746. The Scots suffered a heavy defeat and this was to be the last ever battle on UK soil.
  • The visitor centre has a state of the art 360 degree theatre which allows you to immerse yourself in the battle and hear real accounts from those who fought.
  • From Culloden we move a few miles along the road to the see the 4,000 year old Clava Cairn Burial Chambers. This exceptionally well preserved Bronze Age cemetery is one of Scotland’s most sacred prehistoric sites.

Tour Itinerary

Tour information, tour route map.

On our Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh we travel via Glasgow to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. We’ll make our first stop at the charming village of Luss which sits on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.

Sparkling lochs, tumbling waterfalls and majestic Munros takes us to Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. We’ll stop at Scotland’s most famous glen and hear about the infamous Glencoe Massacre of 1692, when the MacDonald’s were slaughtered by the Campbells.

At Glenfinnan we’ll climb up to the viewpoint for stunning views of Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel. You’ll see the 21 arches of the Glenfinnan Viaduct curve through the glen as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.

We’ll get off the beaten track for views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail before travelling over the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

Glencoe

Your friendly driver-guide has the flexibility to ensure you see the best of the island whatever the weather. Skye never disappoints – there is just so much to see.

You can’t miss Skye’s Mountain range, the Black Cuillins, which adorn calendars and paintings the world over. The sparkling crystal-clear waters of the Fairy Pools lie at the foot of the Cuillins and make for great photos, or even a spot of wild swimming!

We’ll have time to explore Portee and enjoy some lunch before we head to the Trotternish Peninsula. The awe-inspiring scenery never seems to stop, and we’ll get spectacular views at the Quiraing, Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock before we reach the famous landscape of the Old Man of Storr.

Fairy Glen

We cross the Skye Bridge on to the mainland and Eilean Donan Castle*. The castle sits on an island at a point where three great sea lochs meet, surrounded by majestic highland scenery. Eilean Donan was used in many films including Highlander and James Bond epic, The World is Not Enough.

The village of Fort Augustus lies at the southern end of Loch Ness and is lunch stop. You can enjoy an optional cruise on Loch Ness or take a stroll along the Caledonian Canal.

Our journey continues through the Cairngorms National Park, passing Blair Castle to Pitlochry for our final refreshment stop of the day. We return to Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh via the Queensferry crossing ending our 3-day Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh.

22/03/23 – Helen and Whitney-May

This was just the most wonderful experience and I would like to commend you and Jerry (our tour guide) on what will likely be the absolute highlight of our trip to the UK (we still have a little while here but you’re going to be hard to beat!) A million thank you’s for this experience. It was all round amazing, from every annoying enquiry I sent last minute to the office, through to the on-the-ground offering. The carefully researched commentary, lovely bus, caring on time guest service levels provided by Jerry and well, the scenery -though not your making 🙂 –  was next level heavenly. I cannot recommend your tour more highly! Warm regards.

17/03/23 – Taylor

We LOVED our tour with Discover Scotland! Our guide Michael was amazing we could not have ask for anyone better. We enjoyed our whole trip from the bus rides hearing stories, history, songs and much more about Scotland, to our quick picture stops, all our longer spots where we had time to explore, and our free time in Kyleakin.  We felt like our interests were heard by our guide and we were given options and suggestions to do things we would enjoy.  The only thing we wished we could change was staying longer. We are very thankful for our guide and discover scotland for everything. Thanks for everything

02 /11/ 22 – Sergio

I had a wonderful time with Discover Scotland Tours. We had an amazing tour guide also our driver named Jerry! The tour had plenty of photographic stops from day 1. Driving through the Highlands into the Isle of Skye and to Loch ness the group and I could feel the magic Scottish atmosphere. Thank you Jerry for taking care of every single one of us and thank you Discover Scotland Tours for this fantastic experience.

10/10/22 – Vanessa

We had an amazing time! John our guide was perfect! I can’t say enough good things about him! He obviously loves his job and the island.  I appreciated how you kept in touch with me leading up to the tour and how responsive and clearly  you answered my questions. I will most definitely recommend John Black and your company to everyone willing to hear me go on about what an amazing experience we had. Thank you for everything and with some luck we will be making more plans with your company.

19/08/22 – Kylie + Corbin

Our 3-day Isle of Skye tour with Scott was unforgettable! Despite road closures to start the trip, Scott maintained positivity that radiated throughout the group. Each day brought adventure and memories that we will always cherish. It’s easy to see that Scott loves people and Scotland as he went out of his way to make sure everyone got to see and do what they set out to. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and guide!

02/08/22 – Angelina

My friends and I recently went on the Isle of Skye, Highlands, and Loch Ness 3-day tour from Edinburgh, and it was the highlight of our vacation! Our tour guide, John Black, was quite the character. Throughout the whole trip, he was super cheery and always cracking jokes. His personal anecdotes, vast knowledge, and captivating story-telling provided us with a unique glimpse into the Scottish people, culture, and history. John was extremely accommodating for everyone on the tour, making frequent stops for bathroom breaks and food throughout the day. The bus itself was very comfortable, with AC and plenty of space for everyone, and had great views no matter where one sat. Our accommodation was booked through Discover Scotland as well, at Winklebeech bnb in Kyleakin. It had a quaint and homey vibe, and the owner was super welcoming. She was also extremely accommodating to our dietary restrictions and even offered us some bug spray after seeing all of our midge bites! The rooms were tidy and comfortable, with all the necessities one may need. We managed to hit all the destinations on the tour, and it ran very smoothly with no delays. We were especially in awe with the Isle of Skye- It’s a must-see for everyone who visits Scotland! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Discover Scotland Tours and would visit again in a heartbeat!

28 /07/22 – Roxanne

We had a wonderful time and it was through this tour that Scotland came alive for us. Our Tour Leader made a point of getting to know each of us. In between the gorgeous countryside and  the historical background Michael provided, he played songs told amusing stories and made it us feel like we were all part of one family. There were lots of stops for the bathroom and food as well. He was patient answering all of our questions and was respectful of the country’s we came from. We loved this tour and will be talking about it for quite some time. Also good value for our money.

11/07/22 – Darryl

We were very happy with our three day tour. This being our first, and probably only trip to Scotland, we appreciated the variety of things we saw and the general information about your country.

We were especially impressed with our tour guide, John Sheedy. In addition to being an all-around nice guy, he was very attentive to everyone’s needs and well prepared with interesting stories. Having grown up on the isle of Skye was a bonus. John conveyed his genuine love and pride of Scotland and made our trip fun and comfortable.

01/07/22 – Jessica

Mark and I had THE BEST weekend. It’s my first time in Scotland, and although it was a whirlwind, I’m excited to get back and spend more time in certain places. Accommodation was great, Garry was FANTASTIC. So warm and bubbly and knowledgeable and fun.  We’re both quite introverted and I was overwhelmed and missing my children and we never once felt pressured or intruded on, but also Garry made us both feel so seen and included, I was so grateful for how he handled us. Lots of stops, would be good to have a bit more time in some places, but I also really liked ticking lots of things off my list. It was also really relaxing, I slept on the bus all the time – as a parent it was just so lovely to not have to worry about ANYTHING.  Garry added a few fun things in that I wasn’t expecting which was so great! Lots of Harry Potter stops! A DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT! I just loved every minute.  I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you add some northern Scotland tours! Let me know if you do.

10/06/22 – Gráinne

My tour was the Isle of Skye, the Highlands & Loch Ness 3 day tour with Gary. The itinerary was great. Loved all the stops. Loads of time at each stop , didn’t feel rushed. Our tour guide, Gary, was fantastic. He had loads of fun facts and quips and kept us all motivated even though the weather was against us. Will definitely recommend Gary and the tour to anyone!

Where does the tour stay overnight?

Situated on the east coast of Skye is the fishing village of Kyleakin and this is where we stay for both nights of our tour. During peak season some of our passengers may be allocated accommodation in the villages nearby to Kyleakin.

The village has some restaurants for evening dining and a shop should you require any necessities.

What about my accommodation?

Your tour excludes accommodation. During the tour booking process you will be asked if you are booking your own accommodation or whether you wish us to reserve this on your behalf?

Booking my own accommodation

If booking your own accommodation this should be in the village of Kyleakin where most of our customers will be staying. The nearby villages of Breakish or Broadford is fine, however some accommodation providers are situated on roads that even our small coaches cannot get down, so please check with us first at [email protected]

Please contact us to let us know the name of the accommodation you have reserved.

In the Scottish Highlands many businesses do not accept card; particularly in rural areas where mobile signals are not very strong. Your driver will also take cash payment for any optional extras. Therefore, it is best to bring cash with you.

There are cash machines on route should you require to take out money while on tour.

Can I reserve a specific seat on the mini coach?

Seats are chosen on a first come first serve basis, we are unable to take requests for specific seats. Our mini coaches all have panoramic windows so the beautiful Scottish landscape can always be enjoyed, no matter where you sit.

If you suffer from motion sickness, then you may be affected by the roads in Scotland. They can be twisty and narrow. It’s best to come prepared with a travel sickness preventative, whether that be medicinal, wristbands or another option, to ensure it doesn’t impact your overall enjoyment of the tour.

DAY 1: Edinburgh to Loch Ness

We depart Edinburgh in the morning and cross the Forth Road Bridge on our way to picturesque Dunkeld with its historic cathedral. We’ll visit a Highland whisky distillery to discover how Scotland’s most famous drink is produced. Learn the fascinating story that inspired Outlander at Culloden Battlefield and embark on your own journey through the stones at Clava Cairns. Continuing through Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, we follow the entire length of Loch Ness for a glimpse of the mysterious creature “Nessie”. Our home for the night is the quaint village of Fort Augustus where you can relax by the shores of Loch Ness or visit a local pub for a hot drink or something stronger.

(Overnight: Fort Augustus)

DAY 2: Isle of Skye

We kickstart our day with a visit to the Dundreggan Rewilding Center for a refreshing walk through Scotland’s ancient pine woodland. Here, we learn about the charity Trees for Life and their mission to rewild the Caledonian Forest, of which today only 1% remains.

Next on our itinerary is Eilean Donan Castle, famously known as Scotland’s most photographed castle, and you'll understand why once you witness its beauty first-hand! The rest of the day is spent exploring the Isle of Skye’: a must-see destination that will make you fall in love with Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. Expect ancient castles, breath-taking views, and faerie stories aplenty. Home to the famous MacLeod and MacDonald Clans, your Guide will recount Celtic myths and Viking legends from the past millennia.

We journey along stunning coastlines and drive through dramatic mountain ranges, including the striking Cuillin Mountains, Old Man of Storr, and Kilt Rock with its cascading waterfall, arriving back to Fort Augustus in the early evening.

DAY 3: Loch Ness to Edinburgh

Leaving the Great Glen, we bid farewell to Loch Ness and pass under the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. Our journey takes us south through the awe-inspiring landscape of Glen Coe, a scenic landmark of history, wildlife, and myth. Used as a backdrop in Skyfall and the Harry Potter movies, Glen Coe is often recalled as Scotland’s most famous glen. Drive through one of the last remaining wildernesses in Europe when we cross the Rannoch Moor, a vast stretch of land that will reveal a little more of Scotland’s diverse terrain.

Heading past Stirling, we visit the scene of some of Scotland’s most famous battles in the Wars of Independence and hear of local legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. We make our final stop at the majestic Kelpies, the world’s largest equine sculptures, designed by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. After a fabulous three-day adventure, we arrive back to Edinburgh in the early evening.

Tour summary.

We provide a sightseeing guide to Glasgow’s main attractions and recommended restaurants. The guide also includes directions for a short drive west from Glasgow to Loch Lomond , so you can choose between staying in the vibrant city, or in a scenic rural location in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park .

Stopover in Glasgow / Loch Lomond Area

On the first leg of this 3 day tour from Glasgow, you drive west to the shores of Loch Lomond  where you cross the geological boundary that delineates the start of the “Highlands”.

When you get to Loch Lomond, you may wish to join a loch cruise , or take a journey break at a haunted coaching inn that has changed little in the last 300 years. Heading north, you enter the wild and barren landscape of Rannoch Moor on your way to Glen Coe .

After Glen Coe, it is just a short hop to Fort William, but we also supply a longer route option that lets you visit Glenfinnan  where you can see the viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter movies.

From Fort William , you travel past Ben Nevis and through the Great Glen where sightings of a strange creature have been seen in Loch Lochy. We can’t promise any monster sightings, but we will give you the option of a detour to one of the best viewpoints in Scotland.

On the drive to the Skye bridge, you pass the iconic Eilean Donan castle and we will give you tips on where to go for a good photo.

Explore Skye - We provide directions for a road trip around the Isle of Skye that includes the famous scenic landmarks of Skye plus Dunvegan Castle, Talisker Distillery, craft shops, tearooms, pubs, and walks. However, you really need a full day (preferably more) for sightseeing on Skye.

Driving Distance: ~175 miles

Stopover in Skye & Lochalsh area

This is a relatively short drive so you can spend a morning exploring Skye, or leave early and spend the afternoon exploring around Loch Ness and Inverness.

The drive to Inverness takes you back past Eilean Donan castle, but we also suggest a small detour so that you can visit Plockton , which is one of the prettiest villages in Scotland. Travelling east, you come to Loch Ness and a choice of routes to Inverness. You can either follow the more direct road past Urquhart Castle and the various “Nessie” attractions, OR you can follow an arguably more scenic drive that passes along the quieter southern side of Loch Ness.

The day ends in the vibrant town of Inverness, “Capital of the Highlands” . Our guide gives you recommendations on where to eat and where to find live music.

For an extended stay in Inverness, or if you arrive early in the afternoon, we supply some short touring routes by car that explore;

  • Culloden battlefield, Clava Cairns , Cawdor Castle and Fort George.
  • The Black Isle where you find pretty villages and dolphin spotting boat trips.

Driving Distance: ~115 miles

Stopover in Inverness Area.

This is a route that is packed with sightseeing opportunities.

For the first journey leg, from Inverness to Pitlochry, we supply the option of a direct route , or a longer scenic drive  that travels via Grantown on Spey and the Rothiemurchus Forest . Both routes include the option of a visit to the historical battlefield of Culloden Moor.

We recommend you take a break from the driving and schedule a stop at the quaint Victorian Spa town of Pitlochry where you can visit the Salmon Ladder and a Whisky Distillery (or two). Also nearby is the grand Blair castle which boasts its own private army, the Atholl Highlanders, and is a good place to see hairy Highland coos.

The second journey leg takes you to Stirling , where you can visit the Castle & Wallace Monument , before joining the motorway for a fast drive to Edinburgh.

Driving Distance: ~185 miles

Stopover in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is a compact city and easy to explore on foot. We provide directions for 3 walking routes that show you different sides of the Capital city; a walk down the historical Royal Mile , a riverside walk to the Botanic Gardens that escapes the hustle & bustle of city life and a more energetic walk to Arthur’s Seat with a good pub at the end. Edinburgh boasts a great range of atmospheric old pubs and we steer you to a selection of our favourites.

The guide also includes some options for day trips around the surrounding area by car or bus / train.

The driving day trips from Edinburgh take you to West Lothian, where you can visit many of the sites used in the filming of “Outlander” , and to East Lothian, where you can visit some spectacular castle ruins, a distillery, pretty villages and embark on boat trips to see the Bass Rock.

Testimonials

I convinced my other half to get the Scenic Tour 4-5 Days guide (even though he very much wanted to do it all himself), and it was the best experience ever. In fact, ever since this trip, we're trying to re-create the experience. Of course, Scotland can hardly let anyone down, but this guide truly made it an adventure. We found so many hidden and not so hidden gems, and everything was perfectly laid out for us so that all we had to do was decide how much time we had and what we wanted to see next. I can't recommend it enough and wish more guides like this existed!

scotland three day tour

Excellent! We thought the information provided was fantastic and allowed us to see things I am sure we would have missed. Mike was very helpful in sending the itinerary through again for us when we had trouble with our downloads. Would definitely recommend this site. We have been travelling for a number of years and normally would just rely on the internet and books but decided to give this a go. So glad we did.

scotland three day tour

Secret Scotland is EXCEPTIONAL in providing guidance for itinerary planning and accommodation referrals for those wanting a self guided driving vacation in Scotland.... Simple to use.  Thorough in suggesting ‘must see’ venues. Complete - sites, restaurants, pubs and experiences.” That is how I would describe what they do and provide.  Exceptional accommodation recommendations. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

scotland three day tour

The itinerary Secret Scotland provided was a trip saver. We loved the suggestions for sight seeing, eating, and places to stay, but the best part was the detailed driving directions. Driving on the opposite side of the road from the opposite side of the car was a little easier without having to worry about how to get there! We will definitely use this service the next time we visit Scotland!

scotland three day tour

Secret Scotland's itineraries, accommodations guides, and other resources are incredible value with great attention to detail.  Their owners, Mike and Aury, are experienced and honest, and they helped us so much as we attempted to narrow down a very long list of things we hoped to do during our time in Scotland.  I feel so much more prepared for our trip and can now just look forward to our approaching vacation!

scotland three day tour

We have just got back from an EXCELLENT holiday following the Borders to Orkney route suggestions. We can't say enough about how much the detailed information enhanced our experience in Scotland. We had a wonderful time seeing so many interesting sites that we would have passed by without your guide. Thank you so much.

scotland three day tour

These guys really are the best.  We used Mike's Flexi Days East to West itinerary last July and it was truly indispensable.  His itinerary is full of detail, including driving directions and options.  Mike is also very responsive if you have any questions.  We had such a wonderful time we are going back again this year, and we will be using his itineraries again for our planning.  I would also recommend his accommodations guide.

scotland three day tour

Just like pictures of Scotland can’t do justice to the magnificence of the actual landscape, words can’t do justice to the brilliance and sheer volume of work you put in your guide. The level of detail provided on each stopover sheet, in all the different itinerary options and on all the B&B features exceeded even my most crazy expectations.

scotland three day tour

Mike and Aurey from Secret Scotland prepared a fantastic itinerary for us. It was a huge ingredient in the success and huge enjoyment that we got from our trip. It was absolutely worth every penny and there is no way we could have seen so much and so well without their itinerary. We felt like we belonged in Scotland, we knew what we were doing and what it all meant at every step. We recommend their services wholeheartedly. Scotland is such a marvelous place. Thank you Mike and Aurey... and we will be back!

Journey through the Highlands to the magical and misty island of Skye, famous for its wild coastal scenery and the spectacular Cuillin mountain range. The itinerary includes stops at Eilean Donan Castle, Glen Coe, Loch Ness and a full day tour around Skye, with two nights in the picturesque harbour town of Portree.

Our first stop is Dunkeld, a delightful Highland village with a history stretching back to the 8th century. Time for morning coffee and a visit to the ancient cathedral grounds, beautifully situated in mature woodlands beside the mighty River Tay.

We continue north through the Cairngorms National Park and alongside Loch Laggan before stopping for lunch.

Dunkeld Village Alamy 1 Scaled Aspect Ratio 444x310

Following the Great Glen we stop for photos of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. Travelling through spectacular mountain scenery, we stop at Loch Garry for a famous photo opportunity before continuing through stunning Glen Shiel to reach Eilean Donan Castle.

'An iconic image of Highland Scotland, Eilean Donan Castle has been used as the backdrop for countless famous movies'

Perhaps the most iconic image of Highland Scotland, the castle has been used as the backdrop for countless famous movies. It is perfectly situated on a small island, surrounded by water and fabulous scenery – a ‘must-see’ Scottish castle.

From here we drive across the Skye Bridge and under the shadow of the Cuillin Mountains to Portree, the island’s tiny capital where you will be dropped off at your accommodation and based for two nights.

Portree From Istock 1 Scaled Aspect Ratio X

Today is spent touring the Isle of Skye, a flexible itinerary at the discretion of your driver / guide * (see below).

We enjoy a half-day scenic drive along the dramatic Trotternish Ridge with its spectacular cliffs and rock formations. Stops can include Lealt Waterfall, Kilt Rock sea cliffs, the Old Man of Storr rock pinnacle and a walk at the Quiraing mountain pass. Another popular stop is the Fairy Glen, a delightful miniature Highland landscape and legendary home of the ‘wee people’!

Tour2 071 1 Scaled Aspect Ratio X

'We spend a full day exploring the spectacular and dramatic Isle of Skye in the Wee Red Bus'

The second half of the day explores the stunning southern part of the island which includes well-known sights and some hidden gems we’ve discovered over the years.

Nestled under the Cuillin mountains is beautiful Glen Brittle. Rugged scenery surrounds us and there are several fantastic options for this section of the tour, including a short walk in the iconic mountain landscape to the famous Fairy Pools.

Another popular excursion is the drive to Neist Point lighthouse for spectacular views to the Western Isles.

The 13th century home of the famous Clan McLeod, Dunvegan Castle offers guided tours, a useful wet-weather option because of Skye’s famously changeable weather. It’s not called the ‘Misty Isle’ for nothing!

* Please note depending on weather and traffic conditions the itinerary is flexible to maximise our time on Skye.

Skye 1 Scaled Aspect Ratio 444x310

After returning to the mainland we drive past the Five Sisters of Kintail, a high mountain ridge rising steeply from sea level. The five distinctly pointed summits are a well known landmark.

'Our next stop is a monster hunt at famous Loch Ness!'

Next stop is famous Loch Ness – Scotland’s legendary lake and home to the elusive monster! At the picturesque village of Fort Augustus you will have time to take a stroll at Loch Ness and along the canal and lock system built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s.

Loch Ness Alamy Scaled Aspect Ratio 444x310

We continue through Fort William to perhaps the most famous of all Scotland’s glens, Glen Coe. This narrow valley is where the bloody massacre of the MacDonalds took place in 1692, one of the most notorious acts in Scotland’s long and violent history.

There’ll be time for photos of the wild scenery before continuing to Tyndrum for a break. As we approach the Lowlands we drive past the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle where you’ll hear about Scotland’s great patriots William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Their names have resounded through British history for 700 years – a fitting conclusion to a wonderful trip!

Day 1: Full Day Edinburgh Tour

Edinburgh-Castle

Your Braw Tour of Scotland begins as you are collected in Edinburgh, Capital of Scotland by your driver-guide.

Edinburgh lies on the East coast of Scotland, built upon a group of hills, and has a medieval old town and exquisite Georgian new town with gardens and neoclassical buildings that loom over the city.

You can choose to do 1 or 2 of the following.

Edinburgh Castle

Proudly overlooking the nation’s capital city, we will visit Edinburgh Castle, one of the oldest, attractive and interesting fortified places in Europe. Alongside hosting the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, each section of the Castle has an exciting tale to tell, whether that’s as a Royal residence, military garrison, or more ominously, as a prison and fortress.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

Next on our Edinburgh tour, we can visit the glorious Holyrood Palace – the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, Queen Elizabeth II.

We’ll spend an hour or so exploring the palace – including the 16th-century historic apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots – and its impressive surrounding grounds.

Royal Yacht Britannia

Continuing our Edinburgh adventure, we’ll visit perhaps one of the most famous (unsunk) ships in the world: The Royal Yacht Britannia.

This former floating palace spent 43 years traveling more than a million nautical miles around the globe in service of Her Majesty The Queen before (thankfully for us) being permanently berthed in Edinburgh – allowing the public to tour and explore this magnificent piece of engineering history.

Next, we can take a stroll along the winding paths and cobbled streets of the Royal Mile the main thoroughfare of the Old Town.

Arthur's Seat

Finally, we can visit Arthur’s Seat: an extinct volcano and is the main peak of the group of hills in Edinburgh. We can drive straight over the top of this hill (or you may enjoy a short hike instead) where we shall have wonderful views of the city.

After a long day exploring many of Edinburgh’s sites, we head back to your accommodation for the evening.

Day 2: Day Trip From Edinburgh to Falkirk & Stirling

Stirling Castle

Your second day we will depart Edinburgh and have a day trip to Stirling, stopping at some attractions along the way and in the town.

As we depart Edinburgh we can stop for some photographs at the Kelpies (shape-shifting water spirits) – the largest equine sculptures in the world standing at 30-meter-high horse head sculptures which are a true feat of engineering.

Falkirk Wheel Visitor Centre

Moving on we will visit the Falkirk Wheel is the world’s first and only rotating boat lift, designed and built to connect the Forth & Clyde Canal and the Union Canal which allows coast to coast navigation across central Scotland.

The magnificent structure stands 115ft tall and requires only the power of eight domestic kettles to sailboats through the air and transfer them between the two canals. The Falkirk Wheel has not only been described as a feat of engineering but as a work of art and is now an iconic Scottish landmark attracting over 500,000 visitors a year.

Next, we’ll head to Stirling Castle: one of Scotland’s most historically important sites which was once a favored residence of the Stewart kings and queens who held grand celebrations at the castle.

In its grandeur with its superb sculptures and beautiful gardens. You can meet the costumed characters in the roles of bodyguards, court officials, maids of honor, and servants who will welcome you into 16th-century life. If you want you can also dress in a period costume and play medieval instruments.

Other highlights include the Great Hall, Chapel Royal, Castle Exhibition, Regimental Museum, Great Kitchens, Tapestry Studio, and the nearby Argyll’s Lodging, a 17th-century townhouse.

National Wallace Monument

Above the fields where the famous martyr led his Scottish troops to victory against the English forces at The Battle of Stirling Bridge stands the William Wallace Monument built in 1869.

While many will be familiar with Wallace’s exploits from the Hollywood movie, “Braveheart”, inside the monument you can find out all about Wallace’s real-life tales intertwined, of course, with the story of the struggle for Scottish Independence.

You will also be able to examine the Wallace sword said to have been used by the man himself in battle. If you make it all the way up the 246 steps of the spiral stairs to the top of the Monument, you will be rewarded with fantastic views over Stirling.

You will then be escorted back to Edinburgh for the evening.

scotland three day tour

Day 3: St Andrews Day Tour

St Andrews, Old Course, Scotland,

Your final day we will have a trip to the historic town of St Andrews.

The Queensferry Crossing

As we depart Edinburgh we’ll cross over the newly built Queensferry Crossing where we will see 3 magnificent bridges which span the river Forth. Each of these bridges was built in a different century!

Next is Pittenweem: a fishing village that oozes charm. The harbor is a magnet for visitors. Photographers can take their pick between the brightly hulled fishing boats, or the jumble of red pantiled or grey slatted houses.

Next, we will pass through Anstruther, a busy, seaside village which is most famous for its award-winning fish and chips which taste even better eaten in the fresh air overlooking the lovely harbor.

St Andrews is a charming and historic town that attracts visitors from all over the world. St Andrews is known worldwide as The Home of Golf, and also boasts Scotland’s oldest university.

St Andrews University, founded in 1410, dominates the center of town. The elegant, ivy-clad buildings and delightful quadrangles and gardens have seen a procession of famous graduates such as Prince William. One of the top universities in Britain, St Andrews is often compared to Oxford and Cambridge for its defining presence and the collegiate feel it gives to the town.

The Medieval center of St Andrews consists of a series of narrow alleys and cobbled streets with shops, restaurants, and cafés. Explore the castle, the now ruined cathedral, and the adjacent church of St Regulus, where you can climb the spiral staircase to the top of the 108 ft tower for magnificent views of the town and its surroundings.

Finally, after your explorations of the town are complete we will return to Edinburgh where alas, all good things must come to an end as we say our goodbyes until the next adventure.

Full description

The outlander 3-day tour offers an experience like no other..

Over the course of this tour, you will get the chance to visit many of the major Scottish filming locations that appear throughout the TV series. From elaborate palaces to historic battlegrounds, the Outlander 3-Day Tour guides you through Scottish history, both factual and fictional.

Instead of merely driving guests from one location to another, our guides will join you into the locations and share a wealth of knowledge about the sites and the TV series. We work closely with all visited sites to ensure the entire tour is an experience you will never forget.

Day 1 of the tour takes in many of the most iconic castles and fortresses from the TV series.

The first stop of the day brings you to Doune Castle . This 15th-century structure features as Castle Leoch , home of Clan MacKenzie . From there you will visit Blackness Castle , Outlander’s Fort William , before seeing Midhope Castle . This solitary tower house plays the part of Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s home.

Outlander Visitors

The next stop, Hopetoun House , has the honour of featuring as two different locations throughout the TV series. The building’s exterior represents the home of the Duke of Sandringham . While some of the interiors were used for scenes set in Paris .

Finishing off the day are stops at Culross , home of the fictional village Cranesmuir , and Linlithgow Palace . A building of great historical significance, it appears as Wentworth Prison on screen.

Day 2 begins with a stroll through Drummond Castle Gardens.

These verdant grounds were a stand-in for the gardens surrounding the Palace of Versailles . Later, you will stop at Tibbermore Church , the site of the witch trials , and Tullibardine Chapel , where Rupert loses his eye.

This day ends exploring locations that the Outlander production crew have made to look like other parts of the world. The first is Falkland village , which features as Inverness city . The last stop of the day is Dysart , a town that represents Le Havre in Normandy .

Dysart / Le Havre in Outlander

The final day of the tour starts with a visit to Craigmillar Castle.

The building featured as the fictional Ardsmuir Prison , where Jamie Fraser and Duncan Innes were inmates . Another location you’ll visit on this day will be Glencorse Old Kirk . Eagle-eyed viewers will recognise this as the church where Jamie and Claire get married .

From one of the TV series’ most romantic scenes, you will visit one of its most brutal. Travelling from Glencorse you will arrive at Prestonpans . This is the location of a critical battle from Season 2. Then, capping off a jam-packed journey, the Outlander 3-Day Tour has a final stop at Preston Mill . Featuring as Lallybroch Mill , it is one of the oldest working mills in Scotland.

Did you know…

… that we have had the great honour to take Diana Gabaldon – the famous author of The Outlander saga – together with a few lucky fans on a special tour to selected Outlander locations? The event was organised by VisitScotland in recognition of Diana’s contribution to Scottish tourism with her books and subsequent TV series.

Tours depart from Linlithgow Train Station , Station Road, Linlithgow EH49 7DH 20 minutes by train from Edinburgh 30 minutes by train from Glasgow

2. Doune Castle / Castle Leoch

Doune Castle / Castle Leoch - Outlander

Doune Castle was built in the 14th century to seat Scotland’s uncrowned King Regent Albany, and the medieval courtyards of the castle showcase the regent’s rich tastes. The castle has one of Scotland’s best-preserved great halls and a stunning 100ft (30m) gatehouse.

Doune Castle served as the setting for Outlander’s Castle Leoch and is highlighted in several key scenes across the first season of the show. In the 18th century episodes, Castle Leoch is the home of Colum Mackenzie and his clan. At the beginning of the series, Claire and Frank pay a visit to Castle Leoch on a day trip, only to discover the castle is in ruins. Doune Castle also hosted the scene where Claire, Jamie and Dougal’s party approach the castle courtyard.

Doune Castle is more than just the home of Castle Leoch, as it was also the backdrop of Winterfell in the GOT TV series and was also seen in Monty Python and the Holy Grail .

3. Blackness Castle / Fort William

Blackness Castle / Fort William

Blackness Castle is a 15th century-old fortress built by the Crichton family. It has been used as a royal residence, a prison and a weapons store. Due to its unusual shape, it is often referred to as ‘the ship that never sailed’.

When selecting a filming location for Outlander’s Fort William , Blackness Castle is the setting for Black Jack Randall’s stronghold. This is the scene where Jamie was whipped and tortured during his incarceration was filmed here, filling fans with genuine compassion for Jamie.

This is also where Jamie’s father passed away after watching his son facing punishment. During the mid-season finale of series one, Blackness Castle was used when Claire was held captive by Black Jack before Jamie breaks into Fort William to rescue her.

Not only did Blackness Castle showcase the backdrop of Fort William, but also captured scenes from 1990’s Hamlet and 2019’s Mary Queen of Scots .

4. Midhope Castle / Lallybroch (Apr - Oct)

Outlander: Midhope Castle / Lallybroch Castle

The breathtaking Midhope Castle dates back to the 16th Century. The castle exterior remains intact however the interior of the structure has been neglected and has decayed extensively. The centuries-old castle was the home of Jamie Fraser known as Lallybroch . Jamie’s parents left him ownership of Lallybroch, but the castle was also home to Jamie’s sister Jenny , her husband and their children.

Lallybroch is first introduced in a flashback scene in season 1 episode 2, when Jamie attempts to save Jenny from the clutches of the Redcoats but instead gets captured and taken to Fort William . We then see Lallybroch further in episode 12 when Jamie and Claire return to the castle and a disagreement erupts with Jenny before settling in for the following few episodes. Some episodes later an encounter with ‘The Watch’ sees the characters having to leave Lallybroch.

Please note that Midhope Castle is occasionally subject to closures for estate activity.

5. Hopetoun House / Duke of Sandringham's Residence

Hopetoun House / Duke of Sandringham’s Residence

Hopetoun House is a country home in Scotland built in the 16th century for the Hope family, located on the Hopetoun estate which covers an area of 6.500 acres. Outlander followers will recognise the country home as the Duke of Sandringham’s residence .

Hopetoun House was used to shoot the  red drawing-room scene in episode 10 of season 1 when Claire blackmails the Duke of Sandringham to ensure Jamie is pardoned. During season 2, we were taken from Scotland to a Paris setting, although none of the footage was ever captured in France! The alleyway behind Hopetoun House was in fact featured as Paris backstreets. Finally, in episode 4 of season 3 Jamie and the Dunsany family arrive by carriage to visit Lady Geneva at the home of the Earl of Ellesmere . The exterior of the Earl’s home was one of many other filming locations at Hopetoun House.

6. Culross / Cranesmuir

Culross / Cranesmuir

The picturesque village of Culross has been around since the 17th century, featuring a mustard yellow palace, rustic village homes and is lined with idyllic cobbled streets. Culross is the setting for Cranesmuir used in many scenes of the Outlander series.

Culross first appeared in season 1, painted as a dull and grey looking town during filming. After shooting the Outlander scenes, the village was painted back to its original white colour. In the centre of Culross we find the town square with the Mercat Cross and the home of Geillis Duncan in Cranesmuir. This is where Geillis was sentenced to burn as a witch and where Jamie and Claire rescued the young thief when his ear was pinned to a post.

7. Linlithgow Palace / Wentworth Prison

Linlithgow Palace by Night

The impressive Scottish Linlithgow Palace dates back to the 12th century and is the birthplace of the Scottish Monarchs Mary Queen of Scots and James V. Due to its eerie exterior Linlithgow Palace serves as Outlander’s Wentworth Prison  where Black Jack Randall captures, rapes and tortures Jamie during his incarceration.

This is also where Claire pretends to be a relative to convince the jailer to let her visit Jamie. The jailer promptly declines before Claire leaves and throws up before Murtagh swiftly picks her up. The spiral staircase that Claire descends trying to avoid the redcoats was also shot at Linlithgow, as was a later scene where Claire searches the prison cells.

8. Drummond Castle Gardens / Versailles

Drummond Gardens and Castle (01)

The centuries-old Drummond Castle Gardens is one of Scotland’s most prestigious formal gardens. Since its initial development, the site has undergone a series of redesigns with the most recent in the 19th century. Queen Victoria planted a beech tree and yew hedges during her visit in 1842. The Gardens still retains the French style and extravagant feel today as portrayed in the Outlander series.

Drummond Castle Gardens serve as the Gardens of Versailles in Outlander. The first notable episode featuring this location is during Untimely Resurrection in season 2, when Claire and Jamie arrive at King Louis’ Court . You will recall Jamie assisting the Duke of Sandringham to select a horse before Jamie has an encounter with Black Jack Randall. This, of course, results in the two challenging each other to a duel.

9. Tibbermore Church / Cranesmuir Church

Tibbermore Church is set in a captivating walled graveyard and dates back to the 16th century. Its unique raked stone flooring and wooden pews give the church a distinctive feel. Outlander fans will recognise Tibbermore Church as representing Cranesmuir Church in the series.

The Devil’s Mark is where the heart wrenching witch trial was held in the court. Fans will recall the episode showing Claire and Geillis being thrown into the thieves hole to await their trial for witchcraft. The pair are anxiously sat in the docks before Geillis is removed from court and sentenced to death by fire.

Unlike many Outlander filming locations, Tibbermore Church hasn’t changed since its adaption for the TV series. The interior of the church remains in the same state as it was before filming had begun.

10. Tullibardine Chapel

Tullibardine Chapel dates back to the 14th century and was explicitly used as a re-reformation chapel established by Sir David Murray. The chapel is one of few medieval churches in Scotland that remains unharmed, but Tullibardine Castle is no longer in existence today.

This is the location where Claire , Jamie , Fergus , Rupert and Dougal take refuge on their journey to Inverness and are ambushed by a group of redcoats. The redcoats believe Claire is a prisoner of the Scots, and demand for her to be released. Shortly afterwards, we see the church once again when the group leave by horseback, but not before Rupert receives a devastating shot to the eye.

11. Falkland / Inverness

Falkland Village

The small and quiet Scottish village of Falkland has streets lined with stone cottages which have been around since the 17th and 18th centuries. The village is home to 28 listed buildings, one of which includes the historic Falkland Palace . Falkland serves as Inverness in the TV series, because Inverness was unsuitable for filming as the buildings and streets were too modern, which was far from the look and feel needed for the show.

We first see Falkland when Claire and Frank arrive in Outlander’s Inverness for their second honeymoon. Here they meet Reverend Wakefield the local minister, and Mrs Baird the owner of the bed and breakfast. Falkland featured streets such as Rotten Row, Sharps Close and Brunton Street . A house in Brunton Street is where Mary Hawkins cared for sick Alex Randall at McGilvrey’s Boarding House.

12. Dysart / Le Havre

Dysart Harbour dates way back to the 14th century, and the history behind the location is a rich one. In the 17th century, the harbour grew extensively when an influx in exports of coal and salt to the Baltic regions was agreed. Dysart Harbour is the filming location which became known as Le Havre in the series.

The French Harbour is first seen in the first episode of Season 2 when Jamie and Claire arrive. Upon their arrival, they meet the shows newly introduced villain Comte St. Germain . Although Claire and Murtagh rescue Jamie from the clutches of Black Jack Randall to escape to Paris, none of the filming ever took place in France.

13. Craigmillar Castle / Ardsmuir Prison

Craigmillar Castle takes us back to the 14th Century when the castle tower was first constructed, followed by the courtyard walls in the next century. The castle has a history of murderous events and is also where Mary Queen of Scots retreated in the 15th century.

This location was the ideal stronghold to shoot the scenes for Ardsmuir Prison thanks to its decaying exterior, so there was hardly any adaptations needed to use the castle for filming. From the series, we see Ardsmuir Prison as having a Scottish Highlands setting, although no filming ever took place in the Highlands. This is the setting where Jamie, Murtagh and several Jacobite dissidents are incarcerated following the Battle of Culloden in 1745.

14. Glencorse Old Kirk / Wedding scene

Set in the grounds of Glencorse House is where we find the tranquil church called Glencorse Old Kirk . A parish was built in the 16th century and sadly burned down. In its place, however, was the construction of Glencorse Old Kirk some decades later.

This is where Claire and Jamie’s wedding took place and the start of where their adventure truly began. The scene where the two tied the knot was during one of the most memorable episodes of the entire series. It took the production team a long five weeks to ensure the film set was nothing less than perfect.

Glencorse Old Kirk differs dramatically from how it is portrayed in Outlander. The film set was significantly adapted for the series to make it look more rundown, but there’s no mistaking the exterior as the place where Jamie and Claire got hitched.

15. Prestonpans battlegrounds

The small historic town of Prestonpans dates back to the 11th century and is the site where the Battle of Prestonpans took place in 1745. The town is home to Preston Tower and the one-of-a-kind Mercat Cross, the last of its kind to retain its original form since its construction. The Prestonpans battlegrounds is the setting for the large-scale battle Jamie leads against the British in nearby Preston .

The Prestonpans battlegrounds are used during Season 2 Episode 10 of the series. To successfully lead the Jacobite army, Jamie is faced with detouring a swamp. While Jamie is occupied in battle, Claire makes use of her combat nursing experience to take care of the soldiers wounded while fighting.

The barn used in season 2 episode 9 is the same setting being used again during the Battle of Prestonpans. But instead, it’s used as Claire’s field hospital!

16. Preston Mill / Lallybroch Mill

Preston Mill is now a class A listed building, previously producing oatmeal for the region. Although Preston Mill is located in Scotland, one could easily imagine it being set somewhere in Holland among fields of tulips with its dutch-like appearance.

Preston Mill is the location of Lallybroch Mill during episode 12 of season one in Outlander d uring the ‘ Lallybroch ‘ episode when Jamie first arrives at Lallybroch Mill to discover mechanics of the mill are no longer functioning. We see Jamie taking matters into his own hands to fix the mill, at which point, Claire and Jenny spot inbound redcoats and attempt to draw their attention.

As the episode unfolds, we witness Jamie successfully repairing the water wheel, and it’s this same wheel that stands in place at Preston Mill today.

Taylor Swift performs Eras Tour in Edinburgh, Scotland: 'What a way to welcome a lass.'

Taylor Swift is beginning her United Kingdom adventure performing three sold out nights at the Scotland Gas Murrayfield stadium.

"The last time I was here was almost 10 years ago," she said holding her sky blue "Lover" guitar in front of nearly 73,000 screaming fans. The last time the Eras Tour star performed within the Scottish borders was her "1989 World Tour" in Glasgow in 2015.

"I had someone pull me aside and say, 'Hey we checked this 20 times and we swear it's accurate, 'This is the highest attended concert in Scottish history,'" she added. "What a way to welcome a lass to Scotland."

Harry Styles held the record with 65,000 fans on at his Love on Tour show in 2023, according to The National. The news site said the stadium capacity was increased by 8% for the Eras Tour.

Scottish lake renamed Loch Tay Tay

In a warm gesture to the singer's arrival, the First Minister or head of the Scottish Government hosted a renaming ceremony at Loch Tay, a freshwater lake two hours north of Edinburgh.

"The first thing I want to say to Taylor and to all of her Swifties is they’re really really welcome here in Scotland," said Scottish First Minister John Swinney during a media event at the lake on Wednesday. "I’m so thrilled and the fact that Loch Tay is being renamed Loch Tay Tay is just fabulous."

'My one regret' is...

Swift's massive tour schedule is slated to visit 22 countries over the course of two years with 18 European cities on the itinerary. She has performed some cities in the past like London, Paris and Madrid. Other cities are new to her world tour including Lyon, France and Stockholm, Sweden.

In a similar message during her "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)," Swift told the Scottish audience how she loves that the Eras Tour showcases her extensive discography.

“My one regret in terms of the tours that we’ve done is that I really should have come to play in Scotland more," she said. “Look at what you’ve done. You made us feel so welcome. You’ve been so beautifully generous to us."

Swift's three plus hour show boomed out of the open-roofed stadium in Scotland to fans sitting outside the Murrayfield walls. Known as "Taylor"gating, fans sat on the grass attempting to watch livestreams on their phones of the show inside while listening to the music live. However, different from other concert cities, the livestreams inside the stadium were incredibly spotty and unreliable.

The Eras Tour heads next to Liverpool, England on Thursday when Swift will perform her 100th Eras Tour show on June 13.

LONDON — Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Scotland led to seismic activity, geological experts say.

Seismologists with the British Geological Study said earthquake readings were detected about 3.7 miles from Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. According to USA Today, that was where Swift performed her Eras Tour from June 7 through June 9.

“Each of the three evenings followed a similar seismographic pattern, with ‘…Ready For It?’ ‘Cruel Summer’ and ‘Champagne Problems’ resulting in the most significant seismic activity each night,” the British Geological Study said, according to CNN.

June 7 was the most “enthusiastic dancing” evening. the British Geological Study said, according to CNN . The activity reported peaked at 160 beats per minute during her song “... Ready for It?”

The British Geological Study released a playlist of Swift’s songs in honor of seismic activity on the social media platform X .

Taylor Swift's Scottish crowds were so enthusiastic at the weekend that her concerts shook the earth! During the first night of her tour in Scotland, there were around 73,000 fans, according to The BBC. It was the first of her 17 tour dates in the UK which includes eight shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.

“Clearly Scotland’s reputation for providing some of the most enthusiastic audiences remains well intact!” said seismologist Callum Harrison in a news release obtained by USA Today . “It’s amazing that we’ve been able to measure the reaction of thousands of concertgoers remotely through our data.”

Taylor Swift kneels while singing onstage.

Edinburgh is known for its annual Fringe Festival.

Each year, up-and-coming performers bring their best stuff to the Scottish capital to try and cultivate an audience.

On June 7-9, Taylor Swift — who arguably might have the largest fanbase in the world — is headed to Edinburgh not for the Fringe Fest but three huge ‘Eras Tour’ concerts at Murrayfield Stadium with special guest Paramore.

As expected, tickets aren’t exactly cheap to see the Time Magazine 2023 Person Of The Year live.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets was $246 USD before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other shows start anywhere from $255 to $339 before fees.

While that might sound expensive, seats are much, much cheaper than they were after the release of Taylor’s “Tortured Poet’s Department” on April 19.

Back then, $498 was the cheapest price you’d pay to get in the door at Murrayfield Stadium.

Now that seats can be found for $246, Swifties can save over $250 (!) just by waiting until the last minute.

Sure, those aren’t exactly Fringe Festival prices but for any Tay Tay megafan, this is a steal.

For more information, we’ve got everything you need to know and more about Taylor Swift’s three ‘Eras Tour’ concerts at Edinburgh, GB’s Murrayfield Stadium below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Taylor Swift Edinburgh tickets 2024

A complete calendar including all ‘Eras Tour’ Murrayfield Stadium concert dates and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live, reported on  dropping ticket prices  and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek, synthy “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

The Hayley Williams-fronted pop-punk rockers are opening for Swift from May through August this year. This may come as a bit of a surprise to some fans considering that the group mounted a successful arena tour of their own in 2023.

That tour, came on the heels of Paramore’s 2022 reunion; prior to that, the band had been on a five-year hiatus.

For fans who want to check out their latest, their 2023 album “This Is Why” can be heard  here .

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (sometimes more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable — likely stateside — concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Gracie Abrams

•  Billie Eilish

Taylor swift’s ‘energetic’ fans cause ‘seismic activity’ at edinburgh eras tour shows.

Taylor Swift shook it off with her fans in Edinburgh last weekend when they literally shook the Scottish city itself.

Swifties danced so much during the global superstar’s Eras Tour show last Friday at Murrayfield Stadium that they caused seismic activity from 6 km (or 3.7 miles) away, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS) .

Friday night’s concert “was the most energetic” out of all three shows she played over the weekend with 23.4 nanometres (nm) of movement. However, Saturday and Sunday’s shows weren’t too far behind, coming in at 22.8 nm and 23.3 nm, respectively.

Furthermore, the UK’s national earthquake monitoring agency reported that “…Ready For It?”, “Cruel Summer” and “Champagne Problems” generated the most seismic activity each night. Honorable mentions include “Shake It Off,” “But Daddy I Love Him” and “Getaway Car.”

On Friday, “…Ready For It?” generated 160 beats per minute of activity, which transmitted approximately 80 kW of power. According to BGS, this is “equivalent to around 10-16 car batteries.”

While the generation is impressive, BGS reported that the vibrations “were unlikely to have been felt by anyone other [than] those in the immediate vicinity.”

Swift’s fans seemingly never missed a beat — and she praised them following her time in Scotland.

“Edinburgh!!! You truly blew me away this weekend,” she penned on Instagram Monday. “Thank you for breaking the all-time attendance record for a stadium show in Scotland 3 times in a row 🤯 and for all the ways you made us feel right at home.”

Each show had a minimum of 73,000 people in attendance, according to CNBC . Swift’s three concerts are now the most-attended in Scottish history.

This wasn’t the first time the 34-year-old Grammy winner’s tour has caused seismic activity — Swifties danced so much during her Seattle concerts in July 2023 that they generated the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake .

Swift has since taken the Eras Tour to Liverpool, England, where she performed the first of three slated shows Thursday night.

Thursday’s concert marked the 100th Eras Tour performance, during which the “Love Story” hitmaker confirmed the Eras Tour will end in December after three shows in Vancouver.

“The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I’ve acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it,” she noted.

She went on to describe the tour as the “most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing” that has ever happened to her.

Swift kicked off the Eras Tour in March 2023 by touring North America before taking it abroad .

She has since released “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” plus her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Tortured Poets Department Trams Roll Through Edinburgh Ahead of Taylor Swift Eras Tour Concerts 446

You know that these trams can take you home, anywhere else is hollow.

With Taylor Swift due to take her Eras Tour to Edinburgh for three shows at Murrayfield Stadium, the Scotland capital is celebrating with Tortured Poets Department –branded trams.

The city’s tram system unveiled their designs with a video shared via X on Wednesday, June 5. The video shows one of the trams, wrapped in all black with Tortured Poets Department branding on the top, rolling past the 67,000-seat stadium.

“It’s me, hi, I’m TTPD tram, it’s me. The #TaylorSwift merchandise stand is open at @MurrayfieldStad,” their post read. “If you’re traveling there by tram today, make sure you’ve got your tram tickets purchased or validated before you board! Look out for the Taylor Swift TTPD tram too.”

Naturally, Swifties flooded the replies and reposts, sharing their enthusiasm for her three-day Scotland run that begins Friday, June 7.

The city’s tram system isn’t the only local organization gearing up for Swift’s weekend in Edinburgh. Bars and restaurants around the city have teamed up to create a “Taylor Tasting Trail” that showcases “Taylor Swift–inspired cocktails, sweet treats and more inspired by her music,” according to the Eras Tour UK account on X .

City stores have also gotten in on the fun. Piercing shop Laura Bond is offering Swift-themed piercing and luxury friendship bracelets , according to the Daily Mail . Another shop, Pie in the Sky, dressed one of its mannequins up to look like Swift, even giving it a guitar to hold.

Taylor Swift seemingly wipes snot on outfit during chilly Eras tour performance

Taylor Swift wipes nose

Taylor Swift is learning the downsides of the UK weather if the latest video from her Eras Tour is anything to go by.

In a clip captured by a fan, the 34-year-old American singer wipes her nose while striding forward on stage during an Edinburgh performance.

As her hand returns to her side, there appears to be some kind of fluid hanging off her finger.

Ever the professional, she then light touches her green skirt with the same hand, potentially in a bid to get rid of whatever it was.

8JackSzn who posted the video, jokingly wrote alongside the clip: ‘The UK weather really got our Tay Tay.’

The comments section was filled with fans, who appreciate the ‘human moment’.

@8jackszn the uk weather really got our tay tay 🥹🤧 #taylorswift #therastour #edinburgh #1989 #wildestdreams #fyp #foryou ♬ original sound – 𝐉𝐀𝐂𝐊 🐨

‘I love these kind of videos of her cause it reminds is that she’s just like us! Tay tay I love you even more!!!!’ wrote Venezia Yu.

Nini Hansen remarked: ‘Omg she is human.’

‘She’s human lol, she doesn’t have a tissue on stage, what is she supposed to do?’ asked Janelle Lohner.

In a separate video, Taylor, this time in a different costume of a black jumpsuit, which only covered one leg, once again touches her nose and then immediately wipes her hand.

Fan XCrystine, who shared the moment on TikTok, heaped praise on Taylor for managing to brave the 8 Celsius temperature, and called her ‘grace personified’.

The open-air Murrayfield Stadium may have provided a slight challenge for Taylor, but she managed to keep the crowds thoroughly entertained over the two nights.

The unseasonably cold weather isn’t the only curveball Taylor has contended with during her sold-out concerts.

Taylor chose to stop singing but continued to play the guitar in Scotland after she realised a fan was in distress .

‘Need help right in front of me, right in front of me please,’ she announced.

‘She’s right in front of me, just gonna keep playing until we notice where it is, right, right there. I’m just gonna keep playing ’til somebody helps them, then I’m going to keep singing the song.’

Once the fan was given assistance, she launched back into the song. However, later she only again needed to pause after getting a cramp in her hand.

Also on the June 7 performance, two fans got engaged, and earlier in the year, an attendee began having contractions but in a true testament to her love for the artist, she ‘danced through the pain’ . It’s all happening at Taylor’s gigs!

Metro.co.uk’s reporter and lifelong Swiftie Danni Scott was one of the 70,000 people present for the first UK date, and described it as ‘feeling like a religious experience’ .

‘I’m not ashamed to say I cried multiple times,’ she reflected.

‘The entirety of Edinburgh was buzzing as Swiftiemania took over.’

Devoted fans didn’t let a little thing like not having a ticket stop them from getting involved either. Instead, they gathered around the stadium with picnic blankets and danced to the music.

Taylor may want to invest in some kind of sparkly coat as her UK visits continue this month with stops in Liverpool, Cardiff, London, and Dublin.

She will then return once again to the UK in August after completing more gigs across Europe and will perform five more times at Wembley Stadium before heading to Canada in November after a break.

Hopefully, it will have brightened up a little bit by then!
