Samuel Afari Dartey, the man behind Ghana’s new $25 million Safari resort

safari group of companies ghana

Samuel Afari Dartey is becoming one of the household names in Ghana’s hospitality industry. Since 2015, his investment in the sector has been concentrated on providing eco-friendly resorts for Ghanaian and foreign holidaymakers.

Dartey started with Aqua Safari Resort in the Volta Region of Ghana, a unique venture at the time. Following the success of the resort, he decided to replicate it in other parts of the country. His latest resort,  Safari Valley Resort , located in the Eastern Region of Ghana, is a breath-taker.

Termed the “African Disneyland,” Safari Valley Resort is built in a way to allow visitors to engage with nature. It focuses more on forest resources, wildlife resources, and the ocean and marine environment.

The eco-resort sits on a 500-acre land that provides visitors with modern comfort as it has other facilities such as theatre and arts. It also boasts of caves and lakes. One can enjoy luxury accommodations, spa services, golf and organic meals as well.

Building resorts across Ghana was not easy to conceptualize, Dartey told  Paakwesiasare.biz . “A friend of mine invited me to visit his farm and encouraged me to get into the same enterprise,” the CEO of the Aqua Safari Group said.

“We acquired a few acres and started to develop some rubber plantations but anytime I visited, I thought the place was unique and I knew I had to come up with some idea, an idea that could optimize the use of this beautiful renewable natural resource.”

“I started one business in the hospitality industry already, Aqua safari resort, which was doing extremely well, one of its kind in the country so it wasn’t difficult to conceptualize something that will relate,” he added.

The first phase of the project is currently in operation. It consists of 102 rooms and surrounded by palm trees, lush, green landscapes and infinity pools. According to Dartey, the resort was developed in such a way as not to destroy the environment.

“Because it is an Eco-lodge, we’re planning to put into consideration that we won’t destroy the environment, such that where a tree has to be taken out, we will make sure that four trees replace that particular tree,” he said.

The resort facility is home to dozens of species of wildflowers and wildlife with local and exotic animals such as antelopes, zebra, and giraffes. This environment will enable visitors to “engage with the animals without any form of fear”, Dartey said.

The natural resource economist said he will expand his resort venture to every region of Ghana with Safari Palm Lands in the Western Region and Safari royal gardens soon to hit the Ashanti Region.

The golfers exhibited great skills

The Group CEO of Safari group of Companies, Mr. Samuel Afari Dartey has expressed satisfaction with the just ended 2022 Medal Golf competition for their club . The last edition of the montht medal golf competition which was organized by Safari Valley Echo Resort Golf Club in the Okere District featured 27 golfers with 20 Amateurs and seven professionals. All golfers showed class in their various categories by putting out the best performances under their sleeves to compete the small but hard to play nine (9) hole course. A lot were those who came there asking where is the course but left home panting down with worse scores ever in their golfing career. Speaking at the closing and prize awarding ceremony, Mr Afari stated 'This is a very beautiful monthly medal and I will thank everyone for coming and the organizers for putting this together ending the year 2022. ‘The Cardies and all the golfers for the first time we had seven professionals joining us and we are grateful to you all. You have polished the tournament, and polished the environment. ‘For the loyal players you have constantly be with us showing your commitment especially those who manage to join us every time we say Ayekoo.!!! For those who join us for the first time we hope that we did not disappoint you.’ On the part of his organization, he hinted on the reason Safari Valley offers opportunities for social economic activities and sports to bring ‘people closer to nature.’ ‘Safari Valley is part of the Safari Group and our vision is to bring people closer to nature so we try using various social economic activities to bring people closer to nature and I am sure you all will agree with me that in West Africa we have not managed our environment well, and there is the urgent need to either manage them better or develop them so we use many factors of activities to bring people closer to nature. ‘In this case we are using a unique resort to bring people to nature. And when we do that what we want to take away is knowledge and deeper understanding of environment, knowledge and deeper understanding of the people who live here in this beautiful estate, their culture, their arts, their festivals, language etc. to live in harmonious environments with animals where you will not hurt them and they not hurting you either. ‘We offer accommodations, conferences facilities, non residential activities most importantly we invite people to come here and live in nature he added.’ Mr. Samuel Afari Dartey also used the occasion to wish the group members of staff merry Christmas and a productive New year for their hard work to keep the business running. Kwame Ligbidi emerged winner after breaking the tie by one stroke over Enoch Kofi Owusu in a one hole sudden following a level course par score of 58 gross each in the professionals division. In the Amateur female Category, Aileen Conteh became the winner after scoring 66 net whereas Doctor Dennis Addo and Kofi intsiful won the male Amateurs Group 'A' and 'B' with 58 and 65 net score respectively.

Ashanti would like to think most travellers care about the locations they visit and about having a positive impact during their time in each destination..

Booking with a responsible travel company goes a long way to achieving this. Many companies state they benefit locals and conservation when they do extraordinarily little and are more focused on their profit margins. We offset your carbon footprint

We Offset Your Trips Carbon Footprint

We plant 3 indigenous forest tree species for every guest that travels with us..

The main aim for this project is carbon offsetting – guests choosing to travel with us would offset their flights to/from Ghana by more than 15 times if the trees live to their expected lifespan. This is based on projected carbon dioxide generated on a return flight for the average guest (approximately 900kg/1980 lbs). The average tropical tree can absorb approximately 48lbs of carbon per year (when mature) and in Ghana it takes 30-50 years for a tropical tree species to grow to maturity, with an average life expectancy of 200-300 years. If the trees we plant for each guest are continued to be protected, then we are confident that we will be making a big difference in carbon offsetting: 3 trees planted would each absorb approximately 10,080 lbs of carbon, totalling 30,240 lbs/13,745 kg for all 3 trees (per guest).

Booking a tour with us makes you an important part of our positive impact conservation projects, having the option to visit the rainforests and communities your trip helps protect is a special moment for many of our participants
