Are scooters welcome on your cruises?

The 1st deck and restrooms are ADA-accessible. Scooters and wheelchairs can take the path to the boat and board. We also have a wheelchair to assist with boarding.

I'm thinking about going in August and I'm traveling with someone who is very sensitive to heat, is there an indoor air conditioned area?

There is a very comfortable air conditioned cabin on board. Go early in the morning for the Sunday Brunch cruise.

Located in the middle of nowhere, the boat offers the comforts of civilization in a sizzling hot and dry climate. The lunch was basic, and I didn't see any goats on the rock formations. Hoover Dam was impressive. The tour guide was informative, and the scenery of the wet lake and dry rock formations were a great contrast.

A very nice afternoon cruise to Hoover Dam via Lake Mead. Onboard drinks and food are available. The cheeseburgers were fantastic. Friendly service. A wonderful time! Nice little gift shop at the pier. Great views throughout, with pre-recorded informative narrative history onboard.

The scenery is nice. However, I think it needs to be updated as far as the food , drinks and decor . Also, the day we went the AC went out so the boat was a little hotter than expected.

Want to see water? Eat on a small cruise? Want to know more about Lake Mead or Hoover Dam? Come over here! Or Bring your family! This is the place to visit for lunch and sightseeing. On the ship there's light music. And when the music's not playing there's, a narrator telling the history of the Lake and Hoover Dam. Pretty interesting. There are three tiers where you can hang out. The bottom would be the galley has a little bar. Then second floor and a top deck to catch sun and air and enjoy the view. This is like an hour ride. The food is good. It would be nice if they serve salad. We did the sightseeing tour so I'm sure on other tours like the dinner tour should be different food. Overall, this is cool. I'll be taking friends and family here when they visit me.

Beautiful day on lake Mead and a great experience with this cruise. Everyone was friendly and the booking experience was easy online. You can also buy tickets on site. We enjoyed visiting the Lake Mead National Recreation area and the narration on the cruise about the history of the Colorado River, the lake and the Hoover Dam was informative. The bar on board had a wide selection of beverages and snacks/food for purchase. There are two indoor seating areas and an upper deck for outdoor seating. They do have a gift shop at the marina and souvenir pictures for purchase if you're interested, but aren't pushy if you're not.

My partner took me on this cruise on a saturday and I absolutely loved it. The history of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead is just amazing. We have already gone to the Hoover Dam and Boulder city and this was the last part of learning all the history. The scenery was just beautiful and so peaceful , the tour is only 2 hours and very informational which is perfect if that's what you are looking for. They have several packages even dinner and drinks , we got just the tour and went to the bar for a beer. It's a really nice mini cruise to try out !

This is a short cruise around Lake Mead 90 minutes at noon time that I would recommend to anyone.... The sights ... The history that is given... so scenic and relaxing.... This is not a place to have the food though so I am not docking points for it... all about the cruise... at a reasonable price at 35 per adult. The Paddle Wheel Boat itself holds 275.... The staff all nice and helpful.....

We did the Desert Princess Cruz for our anniversary! It was wonderful and might I say romantic! This two hour dinner cruise starts you off with complimentary Champaign, bread and a salad at your assigned table. Your dinner menu is already available at the table and you server will take your order. Your dinner choices are: Chicken, Salmon or medium rare Ribeye. All served with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies! After you have placed your order, you are free to explore the boat. There are 4 levels to this ship. The first 3 are inside dinning with AC and the very top deck is outside. Unfortunately the day we came is was a blistering 117 degrees outside so the top deck was not open for dining, however you could still go up top and enjoy the beautiful scenery for as long as you could last! Once your dinner is ready, the captain will call your deck. We were on the first deck, so we got called relatively fast. Which was perfect because we didn't last long in the blistering sun! We each ordered the prime rib and it was delicious! Cooked perfectly and seasoned well! It was accompanied with an auju sauce and a horseradish cream. It was perfect! We were seated by the window, so even though we didn't last long outside we still were able to enjoy the scenery of the sun setting on a glass lake, beautiful red mountains, delicious meal and of course my handsome date! As the cruise started to head back to dock, we got a small piece of vanilla cake with a strawberry jelly center. It was the perfect way to top off our anniversary!

This was one of the better excursions we did on our visit to Boulder City. I really wanted to visit the Dam and this was a great way to see it from the lakeside. We inadvertently waited until Mother's Day to take the cruise and we were told there were over 200 people on board. We chose a seat inside on the second deck near the bar area at a table. They had a special for the day of a prime rib french dip sandwich with chips. We decided to order that for lunch, and apparently, everyone else on board also ordered food. We really enjoyed the cruise while waiting for our food, and we got lots of photos of the dam and the lake. There was an ongoing narration playing over the speakers to tell you about the history of the area. The food came pretty close to the end of the cruise but faster than some of the others near us. The manager offered us two free drinks to make up for the delayed food order. She also seemed to offer similar deals to the others who were still waiting. I thought it was great that they owned up to their mistake and made good on it. That impressed me and I'd recommend this cruise to others because of it. They could have been jerks and they weren't. The staff and crew were friendly and professional.

So, as you’d expect, even just the Rapids portion of this body of water already has tons of exciting activities ready for you… which makes it a great Wisconsin vacation idea !

To explore this river, I rented paddle boards and kayaks from a company called Wisco River Rentals and spent the entire afternoon on the water.

We initially considered renting pontoons to cruise and fish, but unfortunately, we were short on time.

Not a big fan of water sports? No worries.

Many parks, including Mead Rapids View Park, are located directly next to the river and offer the best afternoon picnic or sunset stroll spots.

2. Explore the Alexander House Center for Art & History

woman standing in front of paintings in a museum

One of the best things to do around Wisconsin Rapids is to visit the Alexander House Center for Art & History.

This historic destination houses a combination of your classic art gallery with varying artists and a historical museum that gives you a glimpse of the city’s rich lumbering and papermaking history.

Touring this center felt very different from our usual city-based museum trips.

Since its exterior and interior represent a house, exploring this museum gallery was very “homey” and relaxing.

The artwork pieces were also displayed as if they were a part of the house.

Plus, the exhibition we saw represented the culture of the area.

The Alexander House is only open every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It’s free to visit, making it one of the most budget-friendly Wisconsin Rapids attractions!

3. Walk or Bike the Riverfront Trails

View looking down a low stream as it winds its way over many small rocks through dense green forest

My favorite part about Wisconsin Rapids is its long stretch of riverfront trails.

Whichever side of the river you’re on, you’re bound to find a trail that’s steps away from the river.

The picturesque view of the water, matched with the abundant trees of the city, just makes biking, walking, or jogging along the trail way more enjoyable and relaxing.

After renting several bikes, my friends and I circled the entire Rapids portion of the Wisconsin River, and it was one of the calmest mountain bike trails in Wisconsin .

We passed through lots of parks.

So, if you’re into picnics, definitely bag some snacks and a picnic blanket when you try to hit up these trails to experience one of the most memorable things to do in Wisconsin Rapids!

4. Visit the Wisconsin Rapids Zoo

Two small kid goats standing atop a carved two level tree stump in an open enclosure next to other animals separated by a wire fence with a backdrop of green trees all under a bright cloudy sky

I remember our trip to the Wisconsin Rapids Zoo, which was entertaining for kids and tranquil for adults.

At first, I didn’t really expect much from this local zoo, as it was smaller in scale.

But I was pleasantly surprised by the zoo’s number of animals and how well-maintained everything was.

During our visit, I remembered seeing camels, kangaroos, llamas, peacocks, donkeys, and an African porcupine.

With some quarters, we also had the chance to feed well-tamed animals like miniature horses personally.

If you plan to spend the day here with your family, I recommend bringing snacks and drinks and settling in one of the picnic tables.

The zoo features attention-grabbing flowerbeds perfect for photos, a classic playground for children, and plenty of shade for everyone to relax in.

Visiting this zoo is one of the best things to do in Wisconsin with kids .

5. Golfing at Local Courses

I found golfing in the Rapids to be one of the most exciting outdoor activities in Wisconsin .

We visited the locally-renowned Bullseye Golf Club, which had an 18-hole golf course, and experienced nothing but good vibes the entire time.

The scenery was top-notch. The resting areas were filled with vibrant flowers, and the course itself was surrounded by pine trees.

Plus, you can hear the gushes of the Wisconsin River as you golf!

We also tried the Ridges Golf Course And Banquet Facility. But only the front nine holes, which took us about 4 hours to finish. Once again, as expected of the Rapids’ golf courses– that facility (and its burgers) exceeded expectations.

6. Experience Local Dining and Cuisine

One of the best things to do in Wisconsin Rapids to truly experience the wonders and culture of the city is to indulge in the local cuisine.

Our go-to restaurant for casual dining was the Anchor Bay Bar & Grill. It has a nice outdoor patio overlooking one of the lakes in Wisconsin , and I loved their seafood bisque.

If you want a cozy place filled with locals, drop by Misty’s Menu, just across the Wisconsin River. Skip wondering what to eat and just order their daily specials!

Of course, I can not mention our favorite spot for fine-dining date nights: the Lake Aire Supper Club.

This supper club is always beautifully decorated according to the season. It offers amazing steak, seafood, and my all-time favorite, the pan-fried walleye.

Truth be told– Wisconsin Rapids didn’t exactly have “traditional dishes,” which was a bit of a bummer.

But if you’re willing to drive two and a half hours for an excellent palate experience, you should definitely try fish boils in Door County, one of the best places to visit in Wisconsin in April .

Trust me– it’s not just food but an entire experience!

7. Attend Events and Festivals

View from the back of a crowd of people appreciating some kind of spectacle off to the side with some spectators sitting on the shoulders of others and many people raising their arms in enjoyment and celebration on a bright clear day

Wisconsin Rapids and its surrounding cities hold many events and festivals all year round.

After attending several of these events, I’m 100% confident that every tourist shouldn’t miss these occasions.

We were very lucky to experience one of the most awaited events in Wisconsin Rapids: the June Cranberry Blossom Festival. Live music, parades, culinary delights, and workshops—this event literally encompassed all the fun aspects of festivals in a span of four days!

Apart from annually held festivals, make sure to check out local events in the city, which are some of the cheapest things to do in Wisconsin Rapids!

We enjoyed several free summer ski shows held by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, and every single time, it was a sight to behold!

Pro tip: The best way to know what events are available during your visit is to grab a copy of the Wisconsin Rapids Area Visitor Guide .

8. Explore the Local Arts Scene

colorful artwork with yellow, green, purple, and violet shades

If you have a gap in your itinerary and are still wondering what to do in Wisconsin Rapids, just drive to the nearest gallery, studio, or cultural center you’ll find.

This city of Wisconsin Rapids is extremely rich in and passionate about art.

You’ll get to explore artwork pieces, artistic performances, and live music! At the top of my head, I remember visiting the Performing Arts Center, a community theatre, and the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center, which had art of all kinds, including visual, musical, and lyrical.

Want a traveler tip for finding the best art scenes? Ask the locals you meet!

Yup– technology isn’t always your best ally as a traveler. More often than not, locals know best, especially when it comes to exploring the community’s culture and artistic vibe!

9. Shopping and Exploring Downtown

woman holding out her credit card with four colorful paper bags hanging from arm

When we visited the Rapids during spring years back, the Downtown area was one of the best places to visit in Wisconsin in March for me.

See– the city’s downtown isn’t your typical urban sprawl with high-rise buildings, neon-colored signs, and loud traffic. Rather, it has that charming countryside feel, which allows you to explore the crafts, souvenirs, and antiques that characterize Wisconsin Rapids!

Some of the shops we visited were Country Freckles, which had lots of items perfect for your home, and Paul Gross Jewelers, which had various designer and local jewelry and giftware lines.

Heads up– shops in Downtown Wisconsin Rapids typically aren’t side-by-side and can be blocks away from each other. So, if you’re not much of a walker or short on time, I recommend exploring the area by car.

10. Relax at Local Parks and Recreation Areas

Smiling beagle dog with his big pink tongue sticking out resting on lush green grass with a small orange ball in front of him

The Rapids might not house any of the State Parks in Wisconsin .

But the city comes second to none for having scenic, cozy, and fun local parks.

Many of the parks in Wisconsin Rapids are nestled along the river, giving you an entirely nature-packed experience.

In addition to Mead Rapids View Park, which I already mentioned, we also explored Veteran’s Memorial Park.

We were very lucky to coincidentally stumble upon a live music event, although we only planned to birdwatch and catch the sunset that afternoon (we saw a bald eagle, by the way). I also highly recommend visiting the Wisconsin Rapids Outdoor Fitness Park to add some exercise to your outdoor exploration.

It has multiple outdoor exercise equipment, and you’ll likely meet amazing people to work out with during your stay!

Want to explore things to do near Wisconsin rapids as well?

I’ll give a huge shoutout to the Iverson Park in Stevens Point.

The water activities there are really some of the best things to do in Central Wisconsin . Plus, among all the hiking trails in Wisconsin that I’ve personally tried, that park had some of the most scenic ones!

My final thoughts on things to do in Wisconsin Rapids

sky with clouds, a bridge, and trees reflected in the water of a river

Wisconsin Rapids is by no far the most popular or largest city in the state.

However, Wisconsin Rapids offers as many exciting activities as its neighboring towns or areas.

This city has its own set of charms.

The calm river splits the city in two, the scenic trails burst with color in the fall, and the area is tranquil.

Wisconsin Rapids is the go-to destination if you want to escape the daily hustles and bustles of city life.

It may not receive as much attention as other cities where most movies set in Wisconsin are shot. However, countless people, including me, have found peace as they’ve traveled through this hidden gem.

Frequently asked questions

  • The trick to having an amazing flight experience is to be prepared. So, let’s start with the basics: passport, boarding pass, cash and daily medications. Next, bring on board items that’ll help keep you occupied, like some electronic gadgets or a good read. It’s also wise to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of headphones. Last but not least, be sure to chuck in toiletries like a toothbrush, facial wipes and a spare set of clothes.
  • While the list of banned items can differ between airlines, the general rule of thumb is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes knives, scissors, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like golf clubs, and items that could injure passengers, such as guns and swords, aren’t allowed in the cabin either.
  • The goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Don layers of breathable clothing and take a sweater in case it gets cold in the cabin. Always go with flat, slightly roomy shoes as your feet may swell a little during the journey. Leave the high heels and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
  • Caused by sustained periods of immobility, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect passengers on long-haul flights. The good news is there are ways to reduce your risk of developing it. Keep your fluids up, get up and walk around the cabin as often as you can and wear compression tights or socks.
  • Your travel documents and passport will need to be inspected by airport security. Keep them within easy reach so you don’t hold up the queue.
  • The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes items like headphones or earphones, as well as heavy jackets or coats. They’ll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
  • Electronic devices like laptops and phones will also need to go on a tray to be scanned. Don’t worry though, you’ll be back online in no time.
  • Traveling with your favorite hand cream? No problem. As long as it’s in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it’s stored in a zip-close bag, you can bring it with you in your carry-on.
  • There’s a possibility that you’ll be asked to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a good idea.
  • Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked suitcase. They won’t be allowed in the cabin.
