Camping at Lake Brockman

The great thing about Lake Brockman Tourist Park is that it has something for everyone. If you are a seasoned camper and have all the supplies you can camp in an unpowered or powered site. For those who are not set up for camping, they can stay in a cabin and still enjoy the surroundings of the state forest and freshwater dam.

Located only 137 kilometres from Perth via the South West Highway it makes for a quick getaway. The campground is located on the Louge Brook Dam Road, 15 kilometres from Harvey and 23 kilometres from Waroona.

Set up your camp nestled among the trees in close proximity to the lake/dam. The campground is split into two areas, Lake Brockman Camp Sites and Logue Brook Camp Sites.

Lake Brockman Camp Site  – This part of the camp is similar to a caravan park as it has all the facilities including a camp kitchen, laundry, cafe, playground and ablution blocks. There are powered, un-powered sites and all the cabins are located in this area. All the sites have plenty of shade and close proximity to the lake.

Lake Brockman Camp Ground.JPG

Louge Brook Camp Sites  – This is a new camping area and there are only un-powered sites however you get a better view of the lake from this area. The toilets are long drop and there are bbq areas available.

Shower/Toilets – The toilets and showers are small but they are clean and functional. The showers are hot which is nice when you are located in the bush.

Camp Kitchen – It is a large area with gas BBQ’s, fridge, tables, table tennis and a television but who needs that when you are camping!

Lake Brockman Camp Kitchen.JPG

Shop/Cafe  – No need to worry about missing out on your coffee as they brew a pretty good cup. It is a large cafe with a stunning view from the balcony over the dam. They are open daily and you can grab a meal or a snack. There is also a small shop if you have forgotten something.

Drinking Water – You are required to bring your own drinking water.

Playground – There is a small playground which will keep the children entertained for hours!

Lake Brockman & Logue Brook Dam

Lake Brockman is also referred to as Logue Brook Dam and it can get a bit confusing. Logue Brook is the dam wall and the brook while the formed lake is called Brockman.

The dam is freshwater, crystal clear and perfect for swimming, water skiing, kayaking and fishing. You can fish for trout all year round and catch marron in season.

Lake Brockman.JPG

Our visit to Lake Brockman

We spent two nights camping by the dam and it did not disappoint. The weather was a little overcast on the first day so we decided this was the perfect time to do some 4wding. We didn’t really know where we were going so we just headed out to see what we could find.

Drove over the bridge onto the other side of the dam and explored. Hit the tracks and there were lots of challenging sections with large muddy holes. After having some fun in the mud we headed to Hoffman Mill which is another camp area. The mill is no longer in operation but it is a beautiful spot to bushwalk and the children loved playing in the creek.

Hoffman Mill.JPG

The weather turned it on for our second day and we spent the entire day enjoying the dam. Relaxed under the gazebo by the water’s edge and kayaked over the blue water. Everyone had fun on the boat, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the wind in your hair. The adventurous had a turn on the ski biscuit, kneeboarding, water skiing while others simply soaking up the suns rays on the boat.

Lake Brockman shore.JPG

Like all good things, they must come to an end and sadly it was time to go home. I hope to get back there soon to do some bushwalking, mountain bike riding, oh and maybe some time to put my feet up and relax! Would be the perfect spot to string a hammock to some trees. I can see myself there now with a book and maybe a cheeky glass of wine in hand, swinging in my hammock!

How fun! Although we love camping- just the two of us- it is extra special fun when others, (especially family) join us.

I was worried about having so many families on the trip but it worked out really well.

I look forward to reading about your camping trips in NZ! Mind you it will be too cold to camp over there!!

Looks fabulous , we found so many beautiful campsites (for our caravan) whilst road tripping in WA.

There are lots of nice spots over here and I am slowly checking them out!

Not a fan of camping. But it does look like a beautiful spot.

Book yourself a cabin instead!

So glad there were options for the non-campers too. I think this looked like a great time was had by all. Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek 13/52 Next week: Daylight Saving is Over.

We don’t have day light savings in the west. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

We went there last summer and it was the bomb! One of the best places to camp out with toddlers. 🙂

Jacq jacqwritesworld.com

Sounds like a great spot.

It looked like a fab weekend. When our kids were little we camped at Lake Moogerah a couple of hours west of the Gold Coast. We also went with a group of friends who had ski boats and jet skis so we all had a great time. We love to get away every month or so too. 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

It is great going away regularly, except for all the washing when you get home!

That looks like an amazing spot for camping!

I’ve not been to Lake Brockman but seeing as it’s close and seeing as you’ve given it such a glowing write up, it’s now on my list! The dam looks like a great place to while away a hot afternoon. #teamlovinlife

I also have a growing list of places to visit in WA!

11 families! That sounds like so much fun. Even if it is camping (LOL) #teamlovinlife

Oh Anne it looks beautiful there! That lake, and the trees! How fabulous you had 11 families go along – so much fun! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

It was a blast!

Looks like a beautiful spot. Camping gets you much closer to nature and much closer to yourself at the same time

I think there may be a lot of camping in our future. Thanks for linking up with the Ultimate Rabbit Hole xox

Enjoy your camping trips.

18 Dec Camping at Lake Brockman, Logue Brook Dam

Camping at Lake Brockman, what a great way to enjoy Logue Brook Dam. Just a short drive from Perth, Logue Brook Dam it’s a very attractive dam to enjoy. It has turquoise blue water and is surrounded by thick Jarrah forest. The perfect day trip or weekend location amongst nature to recharge your batteries.

Getting there

Sitting in between Waroona and Harvey in the Peel region, Logue Brook Dam is approx 90 mins drive south of Perth.

Lake Brockman Tourist Park is the name of the campgrounds at the banks of Logue Brook Dam. If you plan to camp at Lake Brockman Tourist Park, the best way to get there is off the South West Hwy, Logue Brook Dam Road and follow the signs. The GPS can lead you astray if you only search Logue Brook Dam, because there are a few entrances and day use areas google might pick up.

lake brockman tourist park camping

Logue Brook Dam

As mentioned Logue Brook Dam is the name for this man made dam. There is one designated day use area. With a public long drop toilet and a few picnic tables/bbq’s. However, you can pull up anywhere along the banks of the dam to enjoy for the day.

Logue Brook Dam is a very popular water sport location with water skiing permitted. Expect to see and hear some boat noise throughout the day. If you are after a quiet camp spot, this may not be the one of you, especially in summer.

You can drive all the way around the dam, mostly on a graded unsealed road, 2wd and 4wd access. There are some areas close to the waters edge that will be 4wd access only due to some rutted or rough terrain, however there in plenty of areas you can access with a 2wd.

Camping at Lake Brockman tourist Park and Logue Brook Dam.

Camping at Lake Brockman Campgrounds

Lake Brockman Tourist Park  is the name of the tourist park that controls the campgrounds and accommodation surrounding Logue Brook Dam. The tourist park offers cabins and glamping tents as well as powered and unpowered sites. This is why its called a tourist park and not just a caravan park. The toilets and the facilities are very clean and well maintained.

Camping at lake brockman tourist park, karrak loop camping grounds

There are multiple options for accommodation including powered and unpowered campsites, bush sites, caravan sites and also glamping tents and cabins.

Bush Camping Options:

Lake Brockman Tourist Park has loads of bush camping sites separated into 5 loops. When searching on their website it is called “Logue Brook Campsites”. If you wish to camp as close to the Dam as possible, choose the tent only sites in the Karrak Loop. There are 12 tent only sites within the Karrak Loop and they do book up quickly. Or pick any other loops for nice bush style camping. All the other loops / bush camping options will cater for caravans and trailers.

There are only long drop toilets provided in the bush camping options, no showers or drinking water.

Book HERE: Logue Brook / Bush Camping

Powered Sites:

These powered sites are located within what feels like a traditional caravan park. The sites are located close to the cafe and closer to all the accommodation, chalets the tourist park provide. These sites are not as private as the bush camp sites. However, they give you access to an ablution block (with flushing toilets and showers) and a camp kitchen and amenities area. The large clearing is surrounded by lovely bush however each site is not surrounded by trees. The sites are laid out like a traditional caravan park and quite exposed.

Book HERE: Lake Brockman

Facilities:

Bush side camping Logue Brook – long drop toilets, bbq’s, picnic tables, fire rings. No drinking water provided.

Powered sites Lake Brockman – ablution blocks (with showers) camp kitchen, bbq’s and water available for caravans.

lake brockman tourist park camping

Activities and surrounding areas

As mentioned the Dam is a popular spot for water sports, fishing, swimming, 4wd’ing and there are some walking trails throughout the forest. The munda biddi trail (1000km ride from Kalamunda to Albany) leads directly through the forest and is a popular spot for bike backers to stay for the night.

Best time of year to camp at Lake Brockman

If you enjoy water sports and water activities, summer is definitely a great time to make the most of the Dam.

In winter and the cooler months you will enjoy misty mornings on the dam. Also in the cooler months you can have camp fires so that is always enjoyable to warm up by a fire. Although there is probably more activities to enjoy around the Dam in summer, its also beautiful for a winter getaway.

Final Thoughts

A great place to explore as a day trip or camp for a weekend away. I have only stayed in the bush campsites (at Karrak Loop) and I was really impressed by the facilities and the location. Plenty to see and do. After walking around the tourist park it is clear this place gets very well looked after and the staff are very friendly.

If you are unable to book this campgrounds Waroona Dam is near by and camping options are also available at Lake Navarino Tourist Park.

Yes there is. However i am with Telstra and they have the widest coverage. So i unfortunately cant comment on other providers. Also i only really spent time at the campgrounds so there could be patches surrounding the dam that don’t have reception.

Each county in Florida feels very different from its neighbors. The county camping experiences vary also. When selecting a campground, know whether tent camping or RV accommodations are allowed. Also decide the type of experience—woodlands, beaches, freshwater—that you desire. Some parks offer only primitive camping with very few amenities, while others feature much more luxurious facilities with laundries, showers, convenience stores and kitchens.

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

The Grand Kremlin Palace was the former Tsar’s Moscow residence and today it serves as the official workplace of the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin seems to have bagged that title for life) .

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

  • Currently the tallest free-standing structure in Europe
  • Make sure you bring your passport when you visit, you can’t go up without it!

For spectacular views of the city, make sure to add the Ostankino Television Tower to your itinerary for Moscow! This impressive free-standing structure provides stunning views of the city in every direction. The glass floor at the top also provides great alternative views of the city!

Ostankino Television Tower

It takes just 58 seconds for visitors to reach the Tower’s observation deck by super fast elevator. The tower is open every day for long hours and is a great site in Moscow to check out! There is even a restaurant at the top where you can enjoy rotating views of the city while you dine on traditional Russian cuisine or European cuisine!

The tower is somewhat of an architectural surprise in a city that is not known for skyscrapers! To see the city from a new perspective, make sure to add this stop to your Moscow itinerary!

Izmaylovo District

  • The most popular attractions in this district are the kremlin and the flea market
  • Outside of the city center and easy to reach via metro
  • Most popular during the summer and on weekends

Travel outside the city center and discover a unique area of the city! The Izmaylovo District is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, and one of the coolest places to see in Moscow! The two main attractions we recommend checking out are the Kremlin and the flea market.

The Izmailovo Kremlin was established as a cultural center and molded after traditional Russian architecture. This colorful complex is home to several single-subject museums, including a Russian folk art museum and a vodka museum!

Izmaylovo District

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

You will find many hand-made and hand-painted options available at higher prices, as well as mass-produced souvenir options at lower prices!

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

  • Closed on Mondays
  • Filled with old arcade games that visitors get to try out!
  • The museum also includes a small cafe and burger shop

For something a little different, check out the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games! The museum features roughly 60 machines from the Soviet era, including video games, pinball machines, and collaborative hockey foosball! The machines inside the museum were produced in the USSR in the mid-1970s.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

TOP-11 Moscow Parks to Visit

I have chosen the best 11 Moscow parks to visit and spend a beautiful time for you. Do not miss and choose one that you like the most – cycling, festivals, flowers, panoramic views and many other things are waiting for you!

Gorky Park (The Central Park of Culture and Leisure) – The main one of the Moscow Parks

In my opinion this park could be called the main park of the city. Why? Because of its huge territory, the central location and the amount of people visiting the park daily.  It was founded in 1928 and in 2011 it was totally reconstructed. Now it pleases visitors with modern objects and soft green lawns.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 9

The Gorky park is a the right choice for everyone! The youth will like a free WiFi, bicycles, skateboards and other rentals; the couples will enjoy spending time near the river, watching a sunset; parents will appreciate colorful playgrounds and a room for mother and child. Everyone can find something for themselves: from yoga classes  to watching movies in a cozy summer cinema, from dance classes to volleyball playground. Gorky Park is also the venue for all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, events for children and adults. During the winter there is one of the biggest skating rinks in the park.

Museon Art Park – A Second Gorky they say

“Museon” is located on the opposite side of Krimsky Val street. And right now some people believe that Gorky and Museon together is a one space sharing the same beauty.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 2

The Park of Arts was named this way because there is the largest composition of open-air sculptures in Russia. In its territory there are already more than 1000 unique exhibits: from monuments of the socialist realism era to various kinds of contemporary art. But this is not all the attractions of the park. In recent years, “Museon” has become an important cultural site of the city. The park regularly hold many different concerts, festivals, educational projects in the field of art and design. There is a Central House of the Artist, a comfortable summer cinema and other attractions on territory. Be sure to stroll pedestrian Crimean embankment, which looks like a modern park.

Neskuchny Garden – True Russian Nature is Here

Neskuchny garden is located on the right bank of the Moscow River. Today it is also seen as a part of the Gorky Park. This landscape park is one of the oldest in the city and is protected by the state. Its name was received from the Neskuchnoye Estate of  Prince Trubetskoi which is still located in the park.

  • Leninsky Prospekt metro station, Leninsky Prospect, 30

This park is famous mostly for its location close to the Gorky park. It is a quite place with true nature, lots of trees and squirrels and also ancient architecture. As in every park, there are sports and playgrounds, cafes and even a football field.

Zaryadye Park – 5 Steps Away From The Red Square

The area of this brand new park was opened only in September 2017 and located in the very heart of Moscow – right near the Red Square.

  • Open from 10AM to 10PM
  • Teatralnaya, Okhotnyi ryad, Ploschad Revolutsii

The park has 4 zones, each of them represent different parts of Russian landscapes. Above the river there is a floating bridge from where you get to see one of the best panoramic views on Moscow. Other attractions of the park are 5D cinema where you can take a flight above Moscow, few cafes and restaurants, pretty lakes with fishes and old preserved churches. In addition there is still being built a  philharmonic hall, covered with a huge dome and an Ice cage where the temperature will always stay below zero degrees.

When you are on the Red Square do not miss it!

All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh) – The Soviet Style Moscow Park

Park VDNKh – one of the most famous parks in Moscow. This park is one of the sights of the city as it hasn’t changed much since the Soviet era.

  • VDNKh metro station, Prospect Mira, 119

The symbol of VDNKh is a fountain with 16 women symbolizing the friendship of the nations of the USSR. Around this fountain there are all the pavilions representing 16 republics. Now inside the pavilions you find various shops, cafes and exhibitions. If you go deep inside the park you will find a rocket Vostok and and an aircraft. What is funny the inside of the aircraft there is actually a photo exhibition. Near the northern entrance you there is a famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”. It is extremely famous among Russians as all the movies by Mosfilm corporation used to start with the picture of this statue. But if you go further inside the park you will reach a very calm area. A lake is there, forest and birds singing. Since the park occupies a large area I suggest you to rent a bicycle.

Sokolniki Park – A Place For A Hunt Or For Leisure?

The park got its name because of the royal falconry, which took place there in the past when there was a dense forest. (Sokol means a falcon.) In 2011 it was significantly transformed: updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, restored summer cinema and theater, a large rose garden, sports grounds, bicycle paths and other things.

  • Sokolniki metro station, Sokolnichesky Val, 1, p. 1

From the main entrance along the alley you can walk to the Sokolniki circle, where 8 alleys form 9 sectors, in each of them you will find trees of the same breed.  The park is famous for its rosary, as well as flower decoration. On the territory of the park there are concert halls, a library, amusement zone, dances zone and many many other attractions. In winter the park has a skating rink (a free of charge one) and ski runs. During the warm season you can rent a bicycle.

Tsaritsino Park – A Different World Inside Moscow

Here you can walk for hours, admiring the most beautiful nature and magnificent architecture.

  • Open from 6AM to 12AM
  • Tsaritsyno metro station, Dolsky, 1

The most amazing part of the park is the lake with a light and musical fountain. Every evening the fountain starts the show. Lights and music combined make you feel like you are not in Moscow but in a fairy tale. The park is also well equipped for sports lovers and healthy lifestyle. There are volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, sports facilities for acrobatics, bodybuilding equipment.

What I personally like about this park is the atmosphere. This place is actually far from the city center but I love going there anyway. Whenever I go there I feel like I left Moscow with all its hectic lifestyle. It is the place where I relax, enjoy myself or a company of my friends and feel kind of different. By the way totally suggested for a date!

Kolomenskoye Park – Combination Of Reserve and Architecture

The Kolomenskoye park is actually a Museum-Reserve. It is a former residence of Russian tsars and one of the most scenic places in Moscow.

  • May to September – open from 8AM to 12AM, October to April – from 8AM to 9PM
  • Kolomenskoye metro station, Andropov Ave, 39

Alike with Tsaritsino park Kolomenskoye park has its own special atmosphere with all the architecture, trees, ponds and even a river bank. The park regularly hosts various folk festivals and different fairs. In summer time you can play with kites or rent a bicycle and ride around the huge area of the park.

I love the view that you get on the city from one of the hills near the river. I love the apple trees alleys and the beautiful churches. It is also a bit far from the city center but yet worth going there. One of my best friends even celebrated her wedding there.

Aptekarsky Garden or Botanical garden of the Moscow State University – The Best Botanical Garden in The World

Aptekar in Russian language means a pharmacist so basically it is a pharmacist’s garden. It was founded in 1706 by Peter The Great for growing medicinal plants for the royal family. But later they moved it from under the walls of the Kremlin to the current location.

  • Open from 10AM to 8PM
  • Prospect Mira metro station, Prospekt Mira, 26

In the botanical garden there are no attractions and noisy crowds of tourists. The area of the garden is not as big as any other park in Moscow. And the entrance is not free. But this exactly what makes this park one of the most comfortable in the city. In the Aptekarsky garden they grow thousands of different plants, flowers and trees. Some of the trees are more than 300 years old. They held different festivals there: flowers festivals, sand and ice sculptures expositions.

For me it is one of the most beautiful parks not only in Moscow but in the world. I have never seen so many different flowers and plants anywhere else. And trust me I am a real park lover. And what is more the staff really takes care about every single tree or plant there, some of the trees have names and stories. I love it there and I think the price is really worth what you get.

Victory Park – A Park That Makes Us Remember The War

The park is located on the Poklonnaya Hill and it has one of the world’s largest memorial complexes dedicated to the World War II. The park was opened for the 50th anniversary of the Victory on May 9, 1995. It is also one of the main venues in the city for holding a variety of mass events.

  • Park Pobedy metro station, Brothers Fonchenko, 7

On the main avenue of the park there are with 1418 fountains – exactly as long as the war lasted. Fountains make five water terraces, symbolizing five years of military operations. And in the center of the park there is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. If you are interested in the history of the war do not miss it. The Poklonnaya Hill is a part of the park and from the hill you get one of the best views on the city of Moscow. And I could say this is the best place for watching the fireworks during the mass celebrations. But be aware it gets too crowded then. As in most of the other big parks you can rent a bicycle or rollers there.

Izmailovsky Park – A Mix of a Big Forest and Attractions

Izmaylovsky Park occupies a huge green territory, making up a large part of the Izmailovo district. The park consists of two parts: Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest and the forest park of Izmailovo. First part is full of attractions and restaurants while the second one is like a real forest with pine trees, birch groves, beautiful clearings and ponds.

  • Izmaylovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov or Partizanskaya metro stations, Izmaylovsky Park

It is easy to spend there a whole day. A large landscaped area and a lot of various entertainments for children and adults will help you not to get bored. An observation wheel, a boat station, children’s playgrounds, a dance floor, sports grounds, a skate park – all this is only a small part of the possible leisure activities. In the park there are bike paths and a rental services.

I don’t go there often to be honest. But the park is very very close whenever to a souvenir market on Partizanskaya metro station. And whenever the weather is nice and I have enough of free time I stroll through the alleys of the park and enjoy the nature. So if you are going to the souvenir market too and you have enough free time then do go to the park too.
