No, This Isn’t A Journey Sequel, But It Sure Looks Like One

Sword of the sea takes clear inspiration from thatgamecompany’s 2012 hit.

A lot of watching presentations like the PlayStation Showcase is just thinking a game might be a sequel to a thing you like, and as a Journey fan, Sword of the Sea had me by the throat for a hot minute during the show.

The game comes from Giant Squid Games, the studio behind The Pathless , but its Journey DNA is pretty apparent in its visuals. That’s because Matt Nava, the artist who worked at Journey developer thatgamecompany, is also working on Sword . There are scenes and set pieces in the trailer that look straight up pulled out of Journey , from the glistening desert sand to the way its main character boards across it, if you didn’t see the title card at the end, you’d think this was a Journey sequel. While it’s clearly trying to recapture the 2012 game’s magic, it’s going to have its work cut out for it when it launches later this year.

While Journey was a pretty once-in-a-lifetime video game experience that is hard to recreate, I do commend Sword of the Sea for just really committing to the bit of being legally distinct while clearly drawing inspiration from the original game. What remains to be seen is just how much it will riff on the same ideas of connection Journey leaned into with its seamless, wordless multiplayer experience. The game seems much more interested in letting you do sick tricks on your board, so it’s unclear just how much it will lean into the solemn framing of its inspiration.

Admittedly, I never got around to The Pathless , but now that it’s been brought to my attention just how much Journey is in Giant Squid Games’ work, I’m tempted to go back and give it a second look. At the very least, it will give me something to do until Sword of the Sea launches exclusively on PlayStation 5.

One of the few downsides to Elden Ring is that, at some point, the game has to end. It's somewhat sad to say goodbye to your first playthrough - the sense of adventure and exploration in Elden Ring is just unmatched the first time - but becoming Elden Lord doesn't necessarily mean the game is over.

Elden Ring provides a way for players to respec, but it is limited and requires a great deal of effort.

After beating the final boss of Elden Ring players are offered a choice: start Journey 2, also called New Game Plus, or continue in the current iteration of the world. Remaining in the world lets players choose to start their second playthrough at the Roundtable Hold instead, but there are a lot of good reasons to continue into this enhanced version of the base game.

Updated June 7, 2024 by Erik Petrovich : The Elden Ring New Game Plus system works a little bit differently than it does in other FromSoftware games, and because of its quirks, some might consider avoiding going into NG+ altogether. It's worth trying out NG+ in Elden Ring because it offers a heightened challenge for players who want to take on the whole game again with end-of-the-game builds. But not everything will carry over into New Game Plus in Elden Ring, and to enjoy this enhanced playthrough to its fullest, it's important to know what you will and won't bring into NG+. Elden Ring players will find new information about the New Game Plus system in Elden Ring in this guide, including new details about what carries over in the new playthrough, as well as tips to consider when thinking about going into New Game Plus for the first time – especially if you plan to play the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

In regular New Game Plus enemies are noticeably beefier than before, and each level of New Game Plus after the initial NG+1 increases Health and damage by a little bit more. Early-game zones will likely feel too easy for players with endgame builds, even in Elden Ring New Game Plus, but that's kind of the point - by the time you've reached Level 150 at the end of the game, you can restart and choose a completely different path to the Erdtree .

Elden Ring players looking to farm levels quickly, safely, and easily can check out this brief guide to acquire millions of runes.

In addition to all Armaments and Armor collected, New Game Plus lets players keep their collected Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, Gestures, Upgrade Materials, Memory Stones and spells, Stonesword Keys, Talismans, the Flask of Wondrous Physick, Crystal Tears, and Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears carry over. Interestingly, the full unlocked map carries over to New Game Plus, too.

Of course, players also get to keep their Level and stat allocations when moving onto New Game Plus, though you won't be able to respec until Rennala is defeated again.

This also includes all Keys found in a playthrough, but there's more than just items that don't carry over. Bosses respawn, of course, but additionally, all opened doors are closed, all Sites of Lost Grace must be found again, and all quests are reset to their beginning step. Be sure to complete all the NPC quests that are important to you in a single playthrough.

The amount of Runes you earn for defeating enemies is increased across the board in New Game Plus, but there are some things to keep in mind. Depending on the zone, and how far into the game players need to be to access it, Runes earned are multiplied differently.

Two-handing weapons in Elden Ring is a bit different than other FromSoftware games, but just like most of the game, the change gives more freedom.

Unfortunately there are really no other major differences between New Game Plus and a regular playthrough of Elden Ring . Dark Souls required players to go to at least New Game +2 to get all achievements for the game, Dark Souls 2 changed enemy and item placements and added stronger items for players to discover , and Dark Souls 3 made all upgraded versions of rings only accessible in subsequent playthroughs.

All FromSoftware games have had some kind of New Game Plus mechanic, but it would be remiss to say that Elden Ring 's feels a bit lacking compared to other offerings in the past. It's still a worthy experience for all players to take on when looking for more challenge after beating the Elden Beast - but try going for a different ending or using a completely different build to make it more worthwhile.

If you are going to play the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC , and your main character is in New Game Plus, you may find that the DLC's challenges will be too much even for a well-built character. NG+ difficulty is no joke, and FromSoftware's infamously difficult DLCs will make it all the more challenging. Consider starting a new save file if your only character is in NG+.

Elden Ring New Game+: What carries over into Journey 2 and beyond

So you’ve beaten Elden Ring. You’ve mended the Elden Ring and began the new age as Elden Lord. Or maybe you got one of the many alternative endings. Either way, your first journey through The Lands Between has come to and end. So on what? New Game+ time!

Elden Ring Journey 2

As any Souls fan will tell you, multiple playthroughs are part of the core FromSoftware experience, and Elden Ring is no different. While this is typically referred to as New Game+, Elden Ring refers to these repeat playthroughs as a new “Journey.”

After beating the final boss in Elden Ring, you’ll be asked if you want to start Journey 2. This is basically new Game+.

You have the option to move ahead into Journey 2 and start from the beginning of the game again, or hold off and continue playing your current playthrough.

If you choose to wait and stay in your current game, you can acquire any Great Runes, weapons or armor you may have missed, defeat any leftover optional bosses, or complete any remaining quest chains. The only thing you can’t do is try for an alternative ending (this can only be done in a new Journey). If you choose to stay in your current Journey, you can visit the Roundtable Hold at any point to begin Journey 2 at any time.

Starting Journey 2: What carries over into New Game+

If you choose to begin Journey 2, you will start the game all over again on a higher difficulty; however, you have the added advantage of some items carrying over with you. When you begin Journey 2, the following will remain with you:

• Your Weapons

Basically, you’re taking your character and all the weapons and items they have and playing the game all over again on a higher difficulty. The only items you can’t bring with you are Great Runes, story-specific keys and items that unlock shortcuts, and Stonesword Keys. All of your Sites of Grace will also reset and will need to be rediscovered.

You’ll notice that enemies will be a bit more tougher in your subsequent playthroughs by they will drop more Runes since you’ll need more to level up. There are a total of seven playthroughs in Elden Ring, so Journey 7 will be your last run.

Incredible game, 1 issue with iOS port

The first time I played Dune on PS4 was very recently, and I honestly had a spiritual experience, a first for me with a video game. The visuals and gameplay are so simplistic but even without any writing or dialogue they tell a very moving story, with a dreamlike sense of sacredness and a deep touch of humanity on a desolate alien world. The multiplayer aspect of the game is what really binds you to the experience, in my opinion. On this iOS version, you’ll find the multiplayer experience is lacking. I’m not sure why, but you simply can’t find another player to travel with you for the entire length of the journey. It may just be that because this is a mobile platform, people are swiping the app off in the middle of things, although I can’t see this being a “pick up, play, put down” kind of game, so I’m guessing it’s a connectivity issue. This is an older game with kind of a niche following so I can see why, with “Sky: Children of Light” doing so well now, Journey is a low priority, or maybe there is some issue that makes multiplayer of this kind harder on iOS for reasons I wouldn’t understand as a layperson. Journey gets 5 stars for PlayStation, and I could easily say 10/5 stars, but 4 stars from me for iOS because you typically lose the companionship aspect of the gameplay.

Truly Fun and Emotionally Powerful

A really enjoyable game. There can be so much toxic behavior in the gaming world sometimes, but this isn’t that kind of game. I feel lonely very often, and don’t often see friends or socialize; I didn’t know this game had multiplayer when I started playing it, and had played through it maybe six times alone, so I was quite shocked when I ran into someone. See, I have a disability; I cannot feel my hands, and the muscles in my fingers don’t work, but the player I ran into patiently helped me and stayed with me even though I am very clumsy, and repeatedly fell off of a tall structure at one point. We had to start over many times because of me before we succeeded, and it would be very understandable if it was frustrating for them, since they wouldn’t know why I was struggling with certain things that would probably have been much easier if my hands worked, and yet they still played through that part with me. After reading more about it, I know this game’s designers intended for their to be an emotional connection bond/connection formed between anonymous players who run into each other, and that the lack of text or speech comms is meant to add to that, and for me, that was an incredibly powerful experience. Also, it’s pretty cool that if I can play this game on iOS, then it is probably pretty accessible for other players with motor disabilities that affect their hands.

I was more than a dozen hours into Dragon’s Dogma 2 when I found my first ropeway — a transport system that would potentially save me time traversing the game’s vast open world by taking me to the skies. I turned a crank to get the ropeway’s wooden gondola moving, then passed said duty onto one of the Pawns in my party. Quite pleased with myself for discovering this new method of travel, I decided to soak in the views of the expansive desert below me until this journey’s end.

Then a giant, pissed-off griffin smashed into my gondola and completely wrecked it. My party and I plummeted to the valley below and were instantly killed. Man plans and Dragon’s Dogma 2 laughs.

The griffin incident is just one of many similar stories I’ve experienced in 30 hours with the cruel jokester god that is Dragon’s Dogma 2 . I’ve been attacked by bandits in the midst of clearing a copse of goblins and thrown off cliffs by harpies. I’ve been stabbed, shot, poisoned, frozen, and burned by every type of fantasy creature. It’s challenging, but Capcom’s fantasy role-playing game is so unwavering in its design ideals, and so layered in intricate, interlocking game systems — it’s both fascinating and grueling to play.

It presents a world that feels like it’s already existed for eons before I ever set foot into it. It feels unconcerned with coddling or even welcoming me into its perilous world and fraught medieval politics. From lore to gameplay mechanics and even how the non-player characters function, Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s lived-in world believably feels like you’ve been transported here as an outsider and dared to survive its harsh conditions.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2 , I’m an Arisen: a chosen one who’s had their heart plucked out by a dragon and who, according to lore, is therefore the rightful ruler of the kingdom Vermund. But there is a usurper to the throne, a false Arisen who has been given ruling power as part of a shadowy conspiracy. Thankfully, some citizens and power brokers in Vermund quietly recognize my power as the Arisen and aid me on my journey to uncover the truth and expose the imposter.

Joining me on my quest are computer-controlled characters known as Pawns, sort of second-class citizens who fight alongside me. I have up to three Pawns at my side at any given time: a permanent one of my own creation and two others I can hire as part of Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s faux-multiplayer component. As I play through the game, I can encounter new Pawns while walking across the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl, or I can go Pawn shopping at locations known as Riftstones, where other players’ uploaded Pawns seek temporary quests from Arisens across parallel worlds.

The Pawn system adds to the organic, living-world feel of Dragon’s Dogma 2 , where the game’s non-playable denizens generally go about their little lives. As day changes into night, shops close and more powerful monsters roam the landscape. Fruit and meat ripen and rot in my inventory as days pass. Along my journey, Pawns communicate with me and each other, sharing details they’ve learned from other worlds and other Arisen masters. They’ll tell me the location of treasure chests they’ve encountered in their worlds and guide me to them. When I make a discovery, one of my Pawns promises to share that news with other players. Pawns will even gossip about their former masters; one amusingly pondered out loud why her Arisen only hired women to join his group. Pawns come and go, and they’re easily swapped out to build a party that suits my current needs, but they all add to the feeling that this world is greater than my save file.

I’ve grown quite attached to some of my Pawns, too. A mage I met early on became my go-to healer, but she lagged behind me and my main Pawn, a cat-man archer I created and named after my dog. Eventually, I had to part ways with my mage in favor of a stronger sorcerer, but I later reunited with her, only to find she’d become incredibly powerful and had switched vocations.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 boasts 10 vocations — character classes, basically — that offer a variety of playstyles, starting with archer, fighter, mage, and thief. As I progress and advance my vocation, I unlock new skills and new vocation variations, including the ability to use new types of weapons, both traditional weapons and magic in tandem, and more unusual options, like the trickster. The latter vocation — brand-new in Dragon’s Dogma 2 — doesn’t engage in combat one-on-one, but instead wields a censer to conjure illusions, causing enemies to fight each other, and supports Pawns to make them more effective in battle.

The trickster is just one component of game director Hideaki Itsuno’s vision to create a “single-player online party action game” in which players can “experience the enjoyment of getting to play as a group” without having to join up with or rely on other people. In simulating the feeling of a game like Final Fantasy 14 or World of Warcraft from a single-player perspective, the trickster fulfills the role of a healer or support character.

But I’ve always favored a more hands-on approach in action role-playing games like Dragon’s Dogma 2 , the Monster Hunter series, and FromSoftware fare like Elden Ring . That’s why I’ve adhered to mostly sword-and-shield gameplay, and chosen to be in the thick of the fighting while being supported by Pawns. Relying on them is critical to success in this game, thanks to the sometimes muddy combat controls; there’s no hard lock-on targeting system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , and I’ve found myself whiffing many attacks while my Pawn allies pick up the slack.

Combat encounters are thrilling, despite that looseness, thanks to the many swordplay tools at my disposal. As a fighter, I can equip skills that let me launch into the air to knock down flying succubi, or shield bash bandits to knock them down, then finish them off with a powerful stab. Different enemy types require different tactics, particularly the game’s giant enemies, like cyclopes, golems, drakes, and dragons. I can climb atop these massive beasts, a la Shadow of the Colossus , to target weak spots or imbalance them to topple them over. Battles like these are full of drama and hard-fought action, and they often happen organically. Often on my journey, I’ve been assaulted by an ogre or some other grand monster while simply roaming the landscape. Sometimes, I’ll have to run away — or the monster I’m battling will flee when it realizes I’m not worth the effort.

Traveling through Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s world is perilous and often tedious. Fast travel across the game’s huge landmass is virtually nonexistent. A few towns I’ve been to are home to portcrystals, a landmark that I can teleport to using a very expensive and rare consumable stone. Otherwise, I make camp frequently in the wilderness to restore my party to full health. I travel on foot or in oxcarts, which move at glacial oxcart speed and only depart to specific locations. (There are ropeways that offer shortcuts, but you already know how those trips can go.)

And Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s story, a mix of core narrative threads and side quests of wildly diverse significance, requires an immense amount of travel. Players who don’t enjoy lengthy hikes across monster-filled lands, like me, will find its reliance on this form of travel tedious. Others may find it sedating to take walks in the woods, see what’s beyond that hill, or simply enjoy getting caught in the rain. But fair warning: This is a game that respects your choices but doesn’t care much about your time.

However, the emergent stories that happen along the way sometimes make those trips worth it. Even when I somehow lost the plot about the false Arisen, the dragon I’ll need to face, and my efforts to reclaim my deserved throne in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , I can still strongly recall the battles, surprise encounters, and even the smaller stories of townspeople I’ve interacted with on my journey. I’ll still see the game’s story through to the end, and I’ll get there at some point — just as fast as my feet will take me.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is out March 22 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

What is the difference between the Division I baseball tournament and the College World Series?

The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is a 64-team tournament that starts in May. After two rounds of play (which each consist of multiple games), there are just eight teams left. These eight teams then head to Omaha, Neb. for the College World Series. The CWS is the culmination of the DI tournament, where the teams compete in two brackets, with the winners of each meeting in the CWS finals, a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion.

When did the College World Series start?

The first-ever NCAA Division I baseball tournament was in 1947, and would barely be recognized as the same tournament nowadays. The 1947 tournament featured just eight teams, which were divided into two four-team, single-elimination brackets. The two winners — California and Yale — then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. California would go undefeated through the inaugural CWS and beat Yale to capture the first title.

How are teams selected for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament?

Since 1954, the NCAA Division I baseball tournament field has been split into two qualifying groups: The automatic berths, and the at-large selections. Since 2014, that in a typical year split sees 31 conference champions receive automatic berths, and 33 teams receive at-large bids, decided by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. 

Men's College World Series champs since 1947

California defeated Yale in the first-ever Men's College World Series, the first of two played in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Texas put itself on the map as the first back-to-back champions in winning the only MCWS ever played in Wichita, Kansas in 1949. The following season Texas won its second championship, opening Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.

In the trailer just revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024, we’re sharing how we’ve evolved the hunting experience to seamlessly connect the tense storyline and gameplay, resulting in the most immersive and cinematic hunting experience in the series.

If you haven’t yet, take a look at our latest trailer below, which we’re calling “The Hunter’s Journey.” It shares a peek at an intense narrative-driven hunt through the Windward Plains and introduces brand new monsters making their debut in Monster Hunter Wilds.

A new Leviathan slithers into Monster Hunter Wilds

Balahara Leviathan

The Balahara, a leviathan-type monster found in the Windward Plains, makes its debut in Monster Hunter Wilds.

This leviathan uses its serpentine body to slither through the normally impassible jagged landscape with ease. The Balahara secretes a slick substance that allows it to greet any creature unfortunate enough to wander into its territory with a salvo slung from afar.

Ever the cunning predator, the Balahara will often burrow into the smooth desert sand and coil itself in wait, using its flexible body to create a pit of quicksand that will ensnare its prey.

Monstrous Turf Wars

The Forbidden Lands are an unforgiving region–Sparse in resources and plentiful in those competing for them. Violent clashes over territory are an everyday occurrence in the desert and not just between the titans that inhabit it.

In the released footage, a pack of Balahara can be seen attacking a large Doshaguma, and we can see a Chatacabra under attack from a group of small monsters. Yes, even small monsters can be observed defending themselves against larger predators if they feel threatened. Knowledge of this type of behavior can be used to your advantage. Be sure to keep a keen eye on your surroundings so you can act appropriately when the time comes.

Immersive, seamless connection between story and gameplay

The development team is working to craft a story unlike anything seen before in the Monster Hunter series, blending a compelling and intriguing narrative with interesting characters to meet during your journey.

Here’s a glimpse of the story told through a few cutscenes and gameplay segments.

You’ll enter the role of a hunter appointed to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission.

Members of the research commission, including the mysterious boy Nata, embark on an expedition into the Forbidden Lands.

Upon entering the Windward Plains, the research commission encounters a pack of Balahara that call the sandy soil of the Windward Plains home.

In the next shot, we see the Hunter joining up with an unknown man under attack from the Balahara.

As the Balahara attack, we see the action seamlessly flow from cutscenes to gameplay.

Hunters can brandish their weapons while mounted atop their Seikret to deter an approaching pack of predators, or the Seikret can be directed to avoid monsters automatically.

A mysterious large monster approaches…

The Windward Plains is a locale that showcases a rich and vibrant ecosystem full of monsters, contrasted by the harshness of nature. During your adventures, you’ll discover the mysteries of this land and the monsters that inhabit it.

Amongst these harsh conditions, you’ll need to be wary of the Sandtide, a violent sandstorm rife with lightning. Also in the trailer, there was a scene where a large mysterious monster was attacking a Doshaguma with lightning.

Monster Hunter Wilds promises to deliver the most cinematic and immersive story in the series’s history, where story and gameplay are seamlessly connected. We’ll have plenty more to share with you in the future, so we hope you stay tuned ahead of the game’s launch on PS5 in 2025.

Edmonton Oilers headed to Stanley Cup final with 2-1 win over Dallas Stars

Oilers last appeared in the final in 2006, and last raised hockey's holy grail in 1990.

For the Edmonton Oilers, the journey from worst to first in the Western Conference is complete — and a chance at the Stanley Cup is their reward.

Connor McDavid had a goal and assist in the opening period to get Edmonton going, Stuart Skinner stopped 34 shots for his hometown team and the Oilers capped an improbable run to the Stanley Cup final by beating the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Sunday night in Edmonton.

Zach Hyman also scored — like McDavid, on a first-period power play — and Evan Bouchard had two assists for the Oilers, who won the Western Conference in six games and will play for the Cup for the first time since 2006.

They'll be heading to Florida for Game 1 of the final series that starts Saturday. Games are scheduled to start 8 p.m. ET.

The Panthers are playing in the title series for the third time, after getting swept by Colorado in 1996 and losing to Vegas in five games last year.

"When the horn went off, that's the loudest I ever heard it," McDavid told Sportsnet amid the on-ice postgame celebration as Edmonton fans repeatedly chanted, "We want the Cup."

"Special place to play, honestly. So much history. And these fans, it was great to hear their support."

The Stars, just like the Rangers , let a 2-1 lead in the conference finals get away. Dallas scored five goals in Game 3 to take the series lead; the Stars managed four goals, total, in the next three games.

On Sunday, Mason Marchment scored midway through the third period and Jake Oettinger stopped eight shots for the Stars, who finished the regular season with the second-best record in the NHL: 113 points, just one behind the New York Rangers in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

Oettinger went to the bench with about 2:20 left in the game, but the Stars got only two shots the rest of the way — their desperate tries to tie the game and extend the series coming up short.

"Proud of our group. Proud of our fight. Proud of our battle," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "We're just gutted. They did leave everything out there."

Just by getting to the final, Edmonton has done something truly extraordinary — making the title series after finding itself 10 points out of a playoff spot during the regular season.

Entering games on Nov. 24, the Oilers were 5-12-1,  which was 10 points back of Seattle and St. Louis for the final wild-card spot in the West and 19 points behind Vegas for the top spot in the conference.

Those days are long forgotten now.

That's when the Oilers — a couple weeks after Kris Knoblauch took over as coach for Jay Woodcroft, who was dismissed following a 3-9-1 start — went on an eight-game winning streak and began the long climb out of the NHL's basement.

Starting with that eight-game win streak, the Oilers, who had a 16-game winning streak not long after the eight-game run ended, were the best team in the NHL for the remainder of the regular season.

They were 44-15-5 the rest of the way, leading the league in goals (239) and goal differential (plus-76) in that span.

And now, the final awaits. Much like the Panthers on Saturday night, the Oilers didn't touch the conference championship trophy in the post-game celebration. It's the bigger trophy that they're seeking.

"We're not done here. This is just one step in the right direction for us," Edmonton's Mattias Ekholm said.

Edmonton is just the third team in NHL history to make the final after being 10 points or more out of a playoff spot; the others were Toronto in 1958-59 and St. Louis in 2018-19. The Blues won the Cup that season.

The Oilers had only three shots in the first period of Game 6. They were enough.

McDavid opened the scoring with a spectacular goal, weaving through traffic before beating Oettinger up high for a 1-0 lead.

Added Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl said: "There's one player in the world that can make things like that happen."

McDavid then found Hyman in the slot for another power-play score late in the first; the shots at that point were 6-3 Dallas, but the score was 2-0 Edmonton and the Oilers were on their way.

The Oilers finished with only 10 shots on goal, the fewest by a team in a playoff win since 1990.

"We hung in there. We got it done," McDavid said. "Everyone deserves it."

These allow you to challenge friends using any of the 24 qualified teams or from any other European national squad available in the game. Online Friends cross-play will be available for players on the same platform generation.

THE EUROPEAN JOURNEY

Embark on the European Journey and earn rewards across your favourite game modes by completing challenges themed around the different ways to play UEFA EURO 2024. Completing all the challenges will earn you a reward to embark on a new journey. The final reward will be revealed after the tournament ends. 

FOOTBALL ULTIMATE TEAM

Welcome to the latest update from the EA SPORTS FC Team, where we're excited to welcome you to the Festival of Football. This season is all about celebrating the international football window, bringing a wave of excitement and engagement to Football Ultimate Team. 

Let's dive into what's in store for our players as we embark on this football journey together.

FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL

The Festival of Football is our kickoff to Season 7, designed to bring the thrill of international competition right into Football Ultimate Team. As  international competition takes centre stage in the football world, we're mirroring that excitement with themed content that spans the entire seasonal ladder. Keep an eye out for live items that will bring a dynamic element to your team, reflecting the real-world performances and fervour of these tournaments.

PATH TO GLORY

Kicking off the Festival of Football is Path to Glory. The Path to Glory Campaign follows each nation's step towards silverware. The unique aspect of Path to Glory players is their ability to upgrade based on their nation's form throughout the tournament. 

GREATS OF THE GAME

In addition to current stars, we're paying homage to the legends of the game. Greats of the Game will feature ICONs & Heroes whose upgrades are tied to the goals scored by their nation during the tournament. This celebrates the players who have left an indelible mark on the game.

NEW LOAN TYPES

The Festival of Football Update will also feature new types of loans. There’s two new loan types we’ll be introducing into the game alongside traditional Match Loans; Timed Loans & Global Loans. 

When you log in to Football Ultimate Team during the Path to Glory Campaign, you’ll receive Global Loan (more details below) of a Path to Glory Player to help give your squad an international boost. 

Match Loans  First and foremost, we want to clarify that the traditional Match Loans, which many of you are familiar with, will remain unchanged. The two new loan types are additional to Match Loans.

Global Loans  Global Loans apply to all players simultaneously. Global Loans begin on a set date and time for everyone and count down to a predetermined end point together. When the timer reaches zero, the loan item will no longer be usable and will be removed from your club. 

We think the addition of Global Loans will provide new squad building opportunities for the wider community, leading to new and interesting line ups through an increase in themed content. During the international competition we’ll introduce Global Loans for the first time in EA SPORTS FC 24, to help create an international takeover in Football Ultimate Team. 

Festival of Football Global Loans will expire on July 18.

ADDITIONAL UPDATES

The Festival of Football Update also brings changes across the game from a new skill move and an ice-cold celebration, to enhancements to the Clubs and Manager Career.

These additions are based on feedback and designed to improve gameplay and ensure your experience is both rewarding and enjoyable.

First up, we've introduced a new skill move called the Double Touch Lane Change that's sure to be a hit with players who love to dazzle on the pitch with their technical prowess. This addition comes later in the calendar, but it's definitely worth the wait for those who thrive on skillful play.

Additionally, we're bringing a new celebration to the game. Inspired by Cole Palmer's standout season at Chelsea, this celebration can be executed with Cole Palmer across Kickoff, Career, and Football Ultimate Team modes. For those looking to celebrate in style with any player, this celebration can be unlocked in the Football Ultimate Team Season 7 Festival of Football ladder.

MANAGER CAREER

Youth Prospects scouting and development is a big part of Manager Career experience. For our Manager Career enthusiasts, we’ve made changes in Title Update #16 that will bring new and exciting additions to the youth system.

Over the course of your Manager Career you will be able to scout Youth Prospects with 90+ potential and seven PlayStyles. Such players that came through your Youth Academy will now develop two PlayStyles+! The first PlayStyle+ will be unlocked at 80 OVR and second will be unlocked at 90 OVR. This is the only way possible in Manager Career to have a player with two PlayStyles+.

We are looking forward to seeing our community sharing prospects they scouted and nurtured to become generation talent!

For our Clubs players, we're adding a permanent double XP multiplier to any experience gained after a match in FC 24. Which means accelerated progression for your Virtual Pro - faster way to unlock extra slots and different available PlayStyles for your Virtual Pro. By simply playing any match in Clubs (ex. drop-in or league game) you will notice an increased amount of earned XP. And remember that the amount of XP is also based on the Match Rating - the better your performance in the game the faster the progression.  

This is a fantastic opportunity for players looking to catch up to friends and find new ones in FC 24, ensuring everyone can enjoy Clubs experience regardless of their starting point.

Title Update #16 brings 27 new player star heads to EA SPORTS FC 24. You can expect to see improved likenesses of players across the Premier League, including players like Rodri, Sven Botman, Pedro Porro and Eberechi Eze.

Please note that these star heads will become visible following a Server Release that will come shortly after the Festival of Football Update.
