Iglu Cruise

Iglu Cruise logo

  • Iglu offers cruises all around the world, from the sunny Pacific to the icy Arctic. It can make narrowing down the options a bit overwhelming. Not sure where to start? Iglu's 100+ inhouse agents have cruised to thousands of ports, and tested out most ships currently sailing. Why not call to ask for some tips?
  • Most Iglu cruise packages cover all your meals, even if 'full board' isn't expressly stated on the website - be sure to keep this in mind when shopping around.
  • As a completely independent agent, Iglu isn't financially connected with any cruise line. It means any advice you receive isn't skewed to a certain operator - just the best tips, tailored to you.

As the UK's largest independent cruise agent, Iglu offers deals to more than 3000 ports, 30 destinations and 25 cruise lines. From a blissful Caribbean break to an exotic exploration of South East Asia, it's all there for the taking. The Iglu offices are home to 100 dedicated inhouse agents. Between them, they've cruised to thousands of ports around the globe on almost every cruise ship sailing. It means their expertise is top-drawer - exactly what you need when you're booking that dream holiday. Popular Iglu Cruise Destinations

Different types of cruises with iglu, cruise from the uk.

These cruises usually depart from Southampton, so all you have to worry about is getting there in time for check-in. The simplicity of this option means you don't have to deal with the stress of international airports, and can simply switch straight into holiday mode from the minute you board the ship. Often these cruises will explore less far-flung destinations - think Belgium, France or Guernsey. For cruises heading further afield, cruise-only options can mean more time spent at sea - but this won't be a problem if your ship has plenty to keep you entertained.

If a jam-packed itinerary is important to you, then a fly-cruise might be the best option. These deals include international return flights to the city your cruise will depart from - so instead of having to sail all the way to the Caribbean, for instance, you fly straight there to board the ship. If your dream cruise involves seeing as many sights as possible - with the ship merely acting as your base - then a fly-cruise might be your best bet.

Cruise and Stay

Can't decide if you should try a cruise, or park up on a sun-soaked beach somewhere? Why not both! Cruise-and-stays offer the best of both worlds, incorporating a period of cruising (often seven nights) with a few extra nights in a hotel tacked on before or after. This stay is a great way to ease into holiday mode after a stressful time at home, or embrace a change of pace following days spent at sea. Think a Mexican Riviera cruise followed by a glitzy Vegas stay, or a glamorous stint in Barcelona following a jaunt around the Canaries!

River Cruise

A great way to see European cities or parts of Asia, river cruises take you right to the heart of each destination. You could be soaking in a Budapest thermal bath, sipping wine in Lyon or visiting Vienna's dazzling opera house. With the vessels often much smaller in size than those which sail at sea, you'll experience a slightly more intimate atmosphere.

Lloyd’s puts Iglu Cruise up for sale

Iglu Cruise is an internet-based travel agency specialising in the sale of snowboarding and ski holidays, cruises and Christmas holidays

Lloyds Banking Group’s private equity arm has put Britain’s biggest independent online cruise travel agent up for sale with a potential price tag of £100 million.

Lloyds Development Capital (LDC) has hired investment bankers from Rothschild to oversee an auction of Iglu Cruise as demand for its holidays recovers from the Covid meltdown.

Iglu offers trips from 3,000 ports in 30 destinations on more than 20 liners.

City sources added that the company’s owner was likely to want to sell the business for a valuation of about 10 times forward earnings. Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation was £8.9 million last year — albeit this also incorporated the website’s ski travel agent website.

LDC invested in Wimbledon-based Iglu Cruise in 2015.

Just returned from one week cruise…

Just returned from one week cruise booked through Igloo. Everything went perfectly, the booking, the flights, the shuttle transfers and of course the cruise itself where we had been allocated a great balcony cabin. (we thought by booking through an agent at a lower price than the cruise line we would be given a restricted view but were pleasantly surprised)

Great customer service from Vinay

Have seen a couple of cruises on the website and had contact with Vinay via email and phone calls, but unfortunately I couldn’t book these. Then I found another cruise that fitted in with my work, etc, contacted Vinay again, who was very helpful and courteous. He ensured that all my booking details were correct, checking and double checking, the itinerary was definitely what I was looking for, double checked what was included in the price and what wasn’t included in the ie. Visas, gratuities. Great customer service

Iglu phone service above and beyond

I enquired about a cruise and Chris phoned me and after a great conversation he then re-quted with the changes and another cabin suggestion. I then found out from the Celebrity website that space was very limited and had set my heart on a particulat cabin, so phoned rather than wait for Chris to be back in the office. Spoke to a lovely lady - I am so sorry I did not ask your name - who was super efficient and wonderfully friendly. She sorted everthing out and managed to get the cabin for me. Thank you and now have a great cruise and stay holiday to look forward to.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

iglu cruise july 2023

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

iglu cruise july 2023

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

iglu cruise july 2023

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
