Turkey: Hike, Bike & Kayak

12 days | explore turkey’s mediterranean delights and surreal cappadocia on an active tour.

flex travel turkey

Experience Turkey from a different perspective. Abandon well-worn routes to forge a path through unexplored terrain, deep in the historical heart of Turkey. Travel from the minarets of Istanbul city, visiting Turkey’s holiest sites, hiking through valleys for fairy chimneys, tackling the Lycian Way, cycling the streets of Kas and kayaking over sunken cities on the Turquoise Coast. Take up the challenge and be amazed by the diversity that's revealed on this active adventure.

Trip overview

  • Get a taste of incredible Istanbul and its bustling backstreets with your local leader.
  • Hike the valleys of Cappadocia and picnic among surreal fairy chimneys that dot the landscape.
  • Visit Ephesus’s astounding Roman ruins, where the Greco-Roman world still feels very much alive.
  • A kayak trip over a sunken city is the perfect way to experience the lush blue waters of the Mediterranean.
  • Hike the famous Lycian Way with breathtaking views of the Turquoise Coast.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide school kids, health workers, and farmers in far-out areas with bicycles that provide access to education, healthcare, and income.
  • Though you don’t need to be an athlete to take part in this trip, you do need to have a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy it fully. Most activities are moderate and slow paced. Hiking activities range from 3 km to 14 km in a day, and they can be uphill and in full sun. The cycling activity is 30 km and basic mountain biking skills are required. The kayaking is approximately 2.5 hours of paddling (12 km), with no previous experience required.
  • Most travel is on public buses. The aim behind this is two-fold: to give you a taste of local life and to minimise the carbon footprint. In fact, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find most Turkish buses have wi-fi and serve coffee and cake!
  • You will need to carry your own bags to and from hotels, bus stops and train stations. So it's a good idea to travel light if you can.
  • There is a homestay on Day 8 in a local village. This cabin accommodation is comfortable and clean but basic with share bathroom facilities. There is a pool to cool off and the view of butterfly valley is breathtaking. This is an authentic local experience and a way to experience Turkish hospitality at its best.
  • Where possible, we have tried to plan the hiking and cycling to mornings and afternoons, but please be aware it can get hot in the summer months.
  • You will need to pack good hiking shoes, a hat, some sunscreen, and a daypack. Don’t forget a jacket and swimming gear.

If you would prefer to stay grounded, your leader can organise a short walk in the morning so you can stretch out your tired legs. In the afternoon, depart for Konya, a Central Anatolian Plains city that is as dense and urban as Cappadocia is ancient and expansive. Konya has its own unique religious history as the home of the Mevlevi Order, a spiritual sect better known as the whirling dervishes. The train has first-class cabins with twin beds, a fridge and a wash basin. All bedding is provided. A single supplement is not available on the train.

Good morning and welcome to Izmir! From here you’ll take a one hour transfer to Selcuk. This town is steeped in Turkish traditions and packed with remnants of the past. First up are the slopes of Ayasoluk Hill, where you will find a castle fortress and 14th-century Isa Bey Mosque among other gems. The famed Temple of Artemis is also worth a look, though all that remains of this ancient wonder is a single pylon. In the afternoon it's time for what may well be the highlight of your trip – the ruins of Ephesus. There will be plenty of time to marvel at the beautifully preserved remains of this ancient metropolis, including the staggering stadium and delicately carved facades. Learn about its 1500-year history in a guided tour. Then, return to Selcuk on foot and enjoy a balmy evening in the local square, and enjoy a very Turkish evening watching locals play cards and backgammon.

    Day 1 - Istanbul Arrive

You’ll land in Istanbul and dive right into one of the world’s largest and most historic cities. Sprawling across two continents and split down the middle by the Bosporus strait, this cultural mixing pot is home to ancient marvels and modern megastructures.

We’ll have dinner all together at a fantastic spot with a view of the water where you can give the national drink, Raki, a go. This twice-distilled grape and anise concoction should get you ready for a night of fun, so head out and explore with your group of new friends; the evening is free for you to do as you please.

The Blue Mosque is one of many impressive sites in Istanbul.

Day 2 - Istanbul Istanbul was Constantinople

Grab breakfast at the hotel—it’s an important meal in Turkish culture, and oh, is it delicious. Today, we’re heading back in time to check out the Old City, where you’ll explore the expansive Hagia Sophia. This church-turned mosque which stood for 1,000 years as the world’s largest cathedral, is home to gold-plated ceilings, Byzantine mosaics, and 104 columns, all added at different stages of its existence.

You’ll soak up more culture and history at the equally impressive Blue Mosque and wind up in Hippodrome Square, ancient Constantinople’s original sporting and social center.

After that, we’ll hit the sea and head out for a sunset cruise along the Bosporus before a group dinner back in town.

You'll hike and relax in the rocky paradise of Cappadocia.

Day 3 - Istanbul continental divide

Enjoy more of that incredible Turkish breakfast at the hotel, and then we’re off to explore the sights and sounds of this vibrant city.

We’ll take a tour through the Grand Bazaar and check out the endless passageways and magnificent vaulted ceilings. With 4,000 shops of colorful spices, delicious teas, and gold jewelry, it’s one of the world’s largest and oldest shopping centers.

That afternoon, we’ll hop on a flight and head south to the geologically fascinating region of Cappadocia. This wild landscape with its towering stone pillars known as “fairy chimneys” has been sculpted by nature over the past 60 million years.

Wander the energetic streets of Istanbul with the travel crew on FTLO's Turkey trip.

Day 4 -  Cappadocia Chiseled Chambers

Get up early to witness the spectacular Cappadocia sunrise as colorful hot air balloons lift off over fairy chimneys. If you’re interested in joining the flying fun, we’ve got several excellent guides to point you to.

Later in the morning, we’ll ride through the Devrent Valley, where rock spires jut from the dry hillsides, on our way to Kaymakli, an incredible 8th-century subterranean city of narrow labyrinthine passageways and chambers winding eight levels down into the stone.

The afternoon is free before we all meet up for a local wine tasting and dinner to round out one spectacular day in Cappadocian paradise.

Turkish food is a colorful, flavorful delight.

Day 5 - Cappadocia Rockin’ Good Time

If you regret not hopping onboard one of those balloons and drifting over fantasyland, well, you’ve got one more chance, so give it a go if you’re up for it.

However, if more sleep is in the cards, you can take the morning for yourself or meet up with friends for a hike through Pigeon Valley a few hours later. The easy trek will take you through fascinating rockscapes to the tiny town of Uchisar and its ancient castle built into mammoth tuff stone structures.

Grab lunch with friends, and then we’ll head to the Goreme Open Air Museum to see churches and monasteries that were tirelessly chiseled hundreds of years ago. The evening is free for you to recharge back in town.

Cappadocia, Turkey is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Day 6 - Selcuk, Sirince charm & traditions

We’ll take breakfast to-go as we head to catch a flight to the coastal city of Izmir. From there, it’s a short drive to Selcuk to check out a carpet workshop full of intricately designed pieces crafted from hand-spun wool and vegetable dyes. We’ll share lunch with the shop workers in the garden, and then we’re off to Sirince.

The afternoon and evening are free for you to explore this charming hillside town. With fantastic local vineyards throughout the region, we highly recommend popping in for a glass of wine whenever you have the chance. After that, grab a bite with friends before you call it a night.

Turkey is full of historic ruins to discover with your travel crew.

Day 7 - Sirince, Bodrum beach vibes

Grab an early breakfast; we’ve got a big day ahead. We’re heading to see the Ephesus ruins, a sprawling archeological site dating from the 10th century BC that was once home to Greek, Byzantine, and Roman civilizations.

Next, we’re moving on to Bodrum, one of Turkey’s friendliest seaside enclaves. We figured you could use some R&R, so chill out with a drink along the picturesque bay, check out some great beachside bars, or chow down on some more of that Turkish Delight.

If you’ve still got some gas in the tank, explore the imposing Castle of St. Peter along the water or stop by the ruins of the Mausoleum of Mausolus, it’s one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Have sunset cocktails on the balmy Mediterranean Sea.

Day 8 - Bodrum seas the day

Let’s round out this trip in style and hit the high seas. Today, we’re heading out onto the sublime Gulf of Gokova aboard a Gulet, a traditional, Bodrum-built, multi-masted, wooden yacht (say that five times fast). You’ll have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, and soak up the sun in Mediterranean paradise.

Grab a drink or two and lounge with your friends in the lap of luxury. It’s not a horrible way to round out an epic adventure. That evening we’ll all meet up for one last taste of Turkey.

This trip is a chance to take a deep dive into Turkish culture.

Day 9 - Bodrum Güle Güle Turkey

We hope your trip’s been a real Turkish delight (and we can’t believe we waited this long to use that joke); unfortunately, it’s the end of the line. After one final breakfast at the hotel, the time has come to say goodbye to the amazing friends you made and head off to your next adventure.

If you’ve got a later flight, check out some of the historic sites in Bodrum—there should be more than a few to keep you busy. We’ll see you next time.

There's nothing like soaking up beautiful Turkish landscapes with friends.

"On the meeting point of two worlds, the ornament of Turkish homeland, the treasure of Turkish history, the city cherished by the Turkish nation, Istanbul, has its place in the hearts of all citizens."   -Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

The streets of Istanbul are waiting to be wandered.

Just for fun

In a cultural mixing pot like Turkey, it’s not too shocking that 30 ethnic languages are spoken.

The Grand Bazaar welcomes somewhere between a quarter and half a million people every day.

Istanbul has been inhabited for thousands of years. It’s gone by a number of names including Byzantium and Constantinople.

While we can’t guarantee private rooms, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up.

T emperatures should range from the high 60s to high 70s, but we recommend at least one light jacket or sweater in case it gets chilly at night.

Although the trip ends in Bodrum, we recommend booking international roundtrip flights to Istanbul and a domestic flight from Bodrum to Istanbul... or take a boat over to the Greek Islands!

e-Visas are required for American tourists and can be   obtained here .

More information for all other nationalities and Covid restrictions can be found here .

Testimonial

KATHERINE MOTLAGH 28 SEP 2023 – Dallas

We booked a luxury tour of Turkey with Romos Travel. The service and responsiveness from this travel agency were outstanding.

The vacation was well organized and exceeded our expectations. The team went out of their way to accommodate our requests and attended to every detail.

The hotel accommodations were great, specifically the Gamirasu Cave hotel, followed by fantastic activities such as balloon ride, and Turkish bath in addition to many site visits along the way.

Our visits were paired with authentic food and restaurants recommendations and reservations as needed.

We travelled to many countries and Özçan is easily one of the best guides. He is patient, resourceful, punctual, interested in his clients and invested in their enjoyment.

Özçan shared an ocean of interesting information about sites we visited and was flexible to organize our days at our request.

The gift of personalized memory plate was a very nice final touch. It was a great trip thanks to Romos travel.

I did a proposal cruise, and the arrangement was absolutely amazing, especially the photographer who was very enthusiastic. All in all an amazing and memorable experience!

turkey travel

Dusan T. I went to Turkey with my parents, my brother and my sister-in-law. We went for 10 days. It was winter ❄️ at that time and the temperature varies from 2°C to 10°C (depends on which area you are, in Cappadocia the temperature can go as low to -1°C and Istanbul the temperature was around 7 to 10°C).

We had a luxury mpv 🚐 (mercedes sprinter) for transportation. The mpv was very comfy and big and they even have plug in there (to charge your phone during journey).

During the trip we visited to a lot of places (mostly historical sites) which is very interesting especially the Ataturk’s Museum ❤️ All the hotels are 5⭐️ and we really like hot spring in one of the hotels. I was an amazing experience.

We also get chance to got on the air ballon!!! The view was lit 🔥 ! We also tried hamam (turkey spa/massage). It was nice, they bath you in warm water and massage and brush off your dead skin with soap water. The show in Hodjapasha was amazing.

By far the best family vacation we ever had, that’s all we can say 😊 I would like to thank Mr Ender(our tour operator) and Mr.Ozcan (our guide). Thanks for all the experiences.

cappadocia tour

Freja A. Istanbul and Cappadocia trip was truly worth the money we spent – exceptionally well organized and catered for.

It took away all the hassle of organizing your own itinerary and the knowledge of our tour guide Semih – there wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer. He kept the group organized and went out of his way to cater to individual needs.

The driver did an exceptional job, ensuring the journey was as comfortable as possible. The hotels we stayed at were of high quality and the meals were excellent.

The trip is fast paced but not physically challenging, ideal for anyone who wants to see all the highlights of ancient Turkey. I would highly recommend Istanbul and Cappadocia Tour.

cappadocia travel

We had a great time in Turkey with Luxury Tour Turkey that kept excellent communication with us and answered any questions we had. We were lucky to meet a great group of people and have Ozcan as our guide.

A very pleasant person always ready to help and answer our questions showing great knowledge of Turkish History and culture.

Our favorite parts of the 10 days were Istanbul, the visit to the Virgin Mary House, Ephesus, Pamukkale, and the hot air balloon ride, in Cappadocia (a breath take experience).

Hotels: Celal Sultan is in a perfect location for you to explore Istanbul on your own during your free time and is in a walking distance to the Grand Bazaar, Mosques, Bosphorus, Galata Bridge, and other places.

The other hotels were amazing but Mdc Hotel in Cappadocia has the real Turkish breakfast and it was the best breakfast of all the hotels we stayed in.

Overall, the package is excellent and shows a lot about the country. Turkish People hospitality is simply amazing! You feel welcome and safe everywhere you go in Turkey. We definitely recommend a visit to Turkey!

Thousands of Russians flee Turkey due to residency struggles and soaring costs

The number of russians holding turkish residency permits has decreased by more than a third.

This is a 'strategic nightmare' to see Xi Jinping, Putin hug like this: Michael Pillsbury

This is a 'strategic nightmare' to see Xi Jinping, Putin hug like this: Michael Pillsbury

Heritage Foundation senior fellow for China strategy Michael Pillsbury discusses Biden placing new tariffs on China and a 'new era' in partnership announced by Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.

  • Many Russians who initially sought refuge in Turkey amid the Ukraine war have since left due to residency challenges and rising living costs.
  • Turkey, initially a popular destination, saw a significant decline in Russian residents, with numbers dropping from 154,000 to 96,000.
  • Difficulties in obtaining residency permits and Turkey's economic challenges have driven Russians to countries like Serbia and Latin America.

Tens of thousands of Russians who fled to Turkey after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine have moved on to other countries in the last year, squeezed by residency issues and soaring costs, according to data and interviews, including with nine Russian citizens.

When the war began in February 2022, Turkey, Russia's Black Sea neighbour and a NATO member, emerged as a magnet for Russians, especially its largest city Istanbul and the Mediterranean resort of Antalya.

Some of them had opposed the invasion, others were trying to shield themselves and their businesses from a wave of Western sanctions imposed on Moscow, including travel bans on Russians to much of Europe. Some men feared being drafted into the army.

RUSSIA CLAIMS US PRESSURED TURKISH AIRLINES INTO PREVENTING RUSSIANS FROM FLYING INTO MEXICO

But this month, the number of Russians with Turkish resident permits fell to 96,000, down by more than a third from 154,000 at the end of 2022, official data shows.

Anti-war signs

People are seen holding anti-war signs in Istanbul, Turkey, on March 15, 2022. (REUTERS/Dilara Senkaya/File Photo)

Nine Russian citizens who spoke to Reuters said they and others had left partly due to struggles to get residence permits since early 2023. Many have headed to Serbia and Montenegro, among the few European countries where they are welcome.

Russians are also moving on because of soaring costs - Turkish inflation hit 70% last month - as well as difficulty doing basic banking in Turkey as a result of the sanctions.

"You can't predict your future in Turkey," said Dmitri, 46, an IT sector employee who declined to give his surname.

After President Vladimir Putin announced a mobilisation in September of 2022 to recruit Russian men to fight in Ukraine, Dmitri left St. Petersburg and reunited with his wife and four-year-old son in Istanbul.

But in January 2023, a text message appeared on his phone saying his residency application was rejected without explanation, he said. Dmitri left Istanbul a month later.

"I had signed a rental contract for one year but had to leave everything behind. We moved to Montenegro because it is economically and politically more stable than Turkey," he said.

Turkey's Presidency of Migration Management said all rejected resident-permit applications include a justification in the foreigners' own language under relevant laws, and that applicants are free to pursue legal remedies.

In an email, it said departures of Russians were not only linked to residency permits.

"Several political, economic and sociocultural factors play a role," the government agency said.

TURNING TIDE

While the Kremlin has released no data on the wartime exodus, the Danish Refugee Council's Mixed Migration Centre says some 800,000 Russian citizens relocated abroad since the invasion of Ukraine .

Turkey, which has cordial ties with both Moscow and Kyiv, maintained visa-free travel for Russians after the invasion and did not join the Western sanctions against Russia.

Turkey's foreign minister at the time, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said Russian oligarchs - and their yachts - were welcome but must abide by international law to do business.

The buzz of Russian conversation increased in parts of Istanbul and Antalya as the newcomers set up or relocated businesses. But that activity has steadily cooled. Trade Registry Gazette data shows the number of companies established with Russian capital fell to 68 in 2023 from 140 in 2022.

Biriz Karacay, professor of political science at Istanbul Commerce University, says Russian migrants are moving to Serbia, Montenegro and even Latin American countries such as Argentina and Brazil.

"Economically, socially, culturally, they feel close to Turkey, but Turkey doesn't want to have too many foreigners now. Economic challenges also made them suffer in Turkey," she said.

Kirill Alekseev, 35, a Russian politician who worked at the campaign headquarters of the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, said he came to Turkey in March 2022 after a criminal investigation was launched against him.

But when a consulting firm told him that obtaining a residence permit would cost $2,000, he decided not to reapply. "It was too expensive to stay in Turkey," he said.

Instead, Alekseev applied for a German "humanitarian residence permit" and has lived in Nuremberg for a year.

Some wealthier Russians have acquired Turkish citizenship with home purchases of at least $400,000 under a state programme, surpassing Iranians and Iraqis as the biggest foreign buyers over the last two years.

But bureaucratic troubles have proven too onerous for many, said Eva Rapoport, 40. She worked for the 'Ark Project', which helped Russians arriving in Istanbul with free accommodation and legal support, but has also now joined the exodus from Turkey.

"There is no way of knowing if the permit will be extended, or something will change to make the system more hostile to foreigners," Rapoport said.

Another factor, Rapoport added, is pressure in Turkey on human rights such as freedom of assembly.

"After Navalny was killed, even in Russia people gathered to honour his memory," she said. "We couldn't approach the consulate in Istanbul. We traded one authoritarian regime for another."

Holidaymakers have been issued a warning about travelling to the popular holiday destination Turkey.

There are several areas Britons have been advised against travelling to, with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) giving guidance on this.

The FCDO said: "Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against FCDO advice.

"The embassy staff cannot travel to areas where FCDO advises against travel to help you in person. Staff can offer support by phone and email."

Areas where FCDO advises against travel

Turkey-Syria

The UK Government advised: "FCDO advises against all travel within 10km of the border with Syria.

"Fighting in Syria continues in areas close to the Turkish border and there remains a heightened risk of terrorism in the region.

"Due to the ongoing conflict in Syria, roads in Hatay Province leading towards the border may be subject to closure."

Sirnak city

Britons were told that the FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Sirnak city.

Hakkari Province

Holidaymakers were advised: "FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Hakkari Province.

"This advice is due to the heightened risk of terrorism in the region. If you’re undertaking essential travel to Sirnak city or Hakkari Province, take extreme care."

The UK Government also issued guidance to Britons on visiting Mount Ararat.

Mount Ararat

The FCDO stated: "Mount Ararat, in Ağrı Province, is a special military zone. You must have permission from the Doğubayazıt government office, and pay a fee in the local Governor’s Office.

"If visiting with a travel agent or tour group, confirm with them whether you need an individual permit.

"Take extra care if you’re travelling to this area. Keep up to date with local media and follow the advice of the local authorities."

Before travelling, tourists must consult the FCDO for information on visa requirements, customs rules, outdoor activities and adventure tourism, and health.

This provides crucial information for Britons that they must be aware of before going to Turkey.

Britons were given an important warning about terrorism in the country. The FCDO said: "Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Turkey.

"Most terrorist attacks have occurred in southeast Turkey, Ankara and Istanbul. You should remain aware of your surroundings, keep up to date with local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities."

The Government stated that attacks can be done at random including in places visited by foreigners, including public buildings, places of worship, airports and large public gatherings (including major events, public holidays, religious occasions). Britons should remain vigilant.

The FCDO told Britons what to do before they visit Turkey. They said: "No travel can be guaranteed safe.

"Read all the advice in this guide as well as support for British nationals abroad which includes advice on preparing for travel abroad and reducing risks, and information for women, LGBT+ and disabled travellers.

"Follow and contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can also sign up to get email notifications when this advice is updated.

The new measure will come into effect around June 1, after all technical changes related to this new rule are implemented, according to Digi24 .

The decree was signed during Romanian prime minister Marcel Ciolacu's visit to Turkey at the invitation of president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The PM is accompanied by a delegation of ministers.

Turkey is a preferred destination for Romanian tourists.

How FlightsFinder finds you the cheapest flexible flights with the world's best comparison sites

We have developed one of the world's most powerful flexible flight search engines here at FlightsFinder. Search 'Everywhere' from your local departure airport or search for particular destinations and view flexible date prices via our calendar. You can select the cheapest flights three days before or after your chosen dates, the whole month or the entire year. You can filter results on our calendar to show direct only flights if you wish. We also have your back if you are looking for flights with no cancellation fees. Select the filter which says 'no change fees' on our primary search engine, and we will show you flexible flights that you can alter without any charge. We also allow you to quickly compare the world's best comparison engines from one dashboard, including KAYAK, Skyscanner, momondo, Kiwi.com, Jetradar, etc.

How to find cheap flexible flights: Questions & Answers

What are the top 5 flexible flight search engines.

The top 5 flexible flight search engines, if you are searching for flexible flight dates, are Skyscanner, KAYAK, momondo, Kiwi.com and Google flights. These are powerful search engines with some form of calendar view showing the cheapest days to book your flight. Here at FlightsFinder, we use data from multiple aggregators to populate our flight calendar, making it one of the most complete you can see online. The difference with our search engine is that once you have identified the cheapest days to fly, you can then go on and compare all of the world's leading search engines from one dashboard, potentially saving you up to 20% off your next airline ticket.

How much can I save with flexible flights?

The number one factor affecting flight prices are the days you choose to fly. The savings can be truly remarkable if you look a month or two either side of your flight times or even check a few days. For example, if you wanted to fly to London from New York in May, It could set you back by about $442. However, our flexible search will tell you that the price will be around $300 in March. If you want to check a few days before or after your travel dates, select our check box in the flexible dates field that says +/- 3 days. To find the cheapest flight in the entire month, select 'whole month' and select' whole year' to find the best possible return flight price across the entire year.

How to find flexible flights that have no cancellation fees?

In a post covid world, it has become necessary to find tickets that you can amend quickly if unexpected events occur. Common issues that may mean you need to change your booking are the travel policies shifting of a country you intend on visiting by requiring you to quarantine on arrival or on your return, which may not be feasible. Or you may become ill, requiring you to change your travel plans. Whatever the case may be, many airlines charge a premium for you to change or amend your booking once made. To get around these exorbitant change fees, it is sometimes wise to look for flexible flights that have no change fees. You can find these 'no change fees' tickets on our site via our first flight search engine results. Select the filter that says 'no change fees', and we will show you the flights via KAYAK with flexible rebooking options for no extra charge. Just check the change fees for a regular booking to see if the price is lower than booking a flexible 'no change fee' flight.

How to use Skyscanner flexible dates?

Skyscanner has one of the world's most comprehensive flexible date flight engines. They offer users the ability to search from entire countries to 'everywhere' - for example, the United States to anywhere in the world. This search shows you the cheapest airports to fly to from your departing country. Moreover, Skyscanner lets you select on their calendar which month you would like to travel in (for a monthly overview) or select the 'cheapest month', which will tell you the cheapest month to fly in the whole year. They have flexible calendars for both one way and return flights. The downside to the Skyscanner flexible dates calendar is that it only shows flights found by users in the last four days, which sometimes mean the results can be outdated. Moreover, less travelled routes contain fewer historical prices and sometimes none. We use Skyscanner data to populate our calendars; the only difference is that we let you compare numerous flight comparison site results alongside Skyscanner results which often lead to savings, sometimes up to 20%.

How to use KAYAK flexible dates?

KAYAK has a handy 'explore' feature which shows you the best flexible flight deals plotted on an interactive global map. All you need is to enter your departure airport, and the map will show you the best domestic and international flight deals found by other KAYAK users in the last 48 hours. You can also refine your results by searching for a particular country, a specific month, direct flights or flights with stops, budget, duration and type of trip. Once again, because it relies on other users' historical usage, you may find that less searched for routes have little data about them. You can play around with their flexible calendar here: KAYAK/explore . Once you have found a deal on KAYAK, we encourage you to use our site to price check against multiple other aggregators on our website as, on occasion, they can beat the prices found on KAYAK.

How to use Google flights flexible dates?

Google flights have the fastest search engine on the planet, results load in seconds, and they have very comprehensive calendars which show you the cheapest days to travel in the entire month. You can see their flexible flight price calendars by selecting the 'date grid' or the 'price graph' buttons. The date grid presents data in a calendar view whilst the price graph shows you flights in bar graph form. The ITA matrix provides the data and is not dependent on previous searchers to populate it, making it some of the most comprehensive flexible flight data on the web. However, it is a fact that Google flights don't always get you the best possible deal due to the limited number of OTA's Google searches. To get the best possible benefit from them, we recommend you get the best dates to fly from their flexible calendars, then come to FlightsFinder.com and compare multiple aggregators on those dates and see if you can save even more. You can often save up to 20% more simply by checking numerous flight aggregators via our easy to use dashboard.

How to use Kiwi.com flexible dates?

Kiwi.com is the Czech Republic's biggest metasearch engine famous for finding cheap flights by virtual interlining, stitching together fares from airlines that traditionally do not work together. You can find their flexible flight calendars on their search results page by selecting the 'pricing table' or to view a bar graph of the lowest priced flights instead, pick 'price trends'. Their flexible flight results are very comprehensive, and you can find data on even the most obscure routes. Once again, we suggest finding the best days to fly by using our Flexi calendars then price checking their live results with our multi aggregator tab based flight dashboard to see if you can pinch a bit more off your ticket.

How to find the cheapest flexible flight 3 days before or after your flight

Sometimes you can find cheaper flights if you look a few days on either side of your travel dates if your schedule permits. Please enter your departure and arrival airports, then select your preferred dates of flying; after that, choose our flexible dates tab and check the box which says +/- 3 days. We will then take you to our flexible dates calendar to quickly look at prices on surrounding dates. Please note that the display prices were found in the last 15 days and may no longer be available - the only way to check live availability is to select a date and click 'show flights' - then compare multiple live prices.

How to find the cheapest flexible flight in the entire month

Our flight finder also allows you to find the cheapest return flight in any particular month. For example, say you wanted to see the most inexpensive return flight from Miami to Toronto or Los Angeles to Mexico City in June. First, enter your departure airport to one of those arrival cities. After that, select some dates in June in our calendar; select the flexible dates tab, and check the box that says 'whole month'. We will then show you the cheapest combination of departure and arrival dates for your search on our calendar in that particular month. Our results are colour coded so that the lowest price will be in blue, whilst lower prices will be in green while the more expensive days will be in red. Once again, prices are rough guides only found by other users in the last 15 days.

How to find the cheapest flexible flight in the entire year?

If you are highly flexible with your travel dates, you may want to know the cheapest flights possible in the entire year between two city destinations. For example - what's the cheapest flight from New York to Las Vegas in the whole year?. Our flight finder allows you to do this in seconds. First of all, enter your departure and arrival cities, then select our flexible dates tab, after that check the box which say 'whole year.' We will then pinpoint the cheapest date combinations to fly in seconds on our calendar in the entire year. This option is also particularly useful in uncovering potential error fares and is the quickest way to find unbelievable flight deals.

How to find the cheapest flexible flights to anywhere?

If you don't have a fixed destination in mind and are looking for inspiration on where to fly next, we recommend using our 'flexible - search everywhere' option. First, enter your departure airport, select 'search everywhere', then enter the dates you are looking to travel or look for the cheapest flights in the entire month or the entire year by checking the relevant box. Once you click search, we will list the most affordable destinations fitting your search parameters leaving from your chosen departure airport. You can also refine flights to see direct options by selecting the 'direct only' check box on our destinations list.

How to find the cheapest flight to a particular country?

To find the cheapest flight to a particular country, we recommend using the search everywhere option in our search engine. You can then select the country you are interested in visiting in the destinations list, and we will show you the cheapest cities in that country to fly to. Another alternate way of seeing the best deals to any country is by using our recent deals carousel engine. You can find this below our main search engine form. To use the recent deals engine, enter your departure airport and enter the country you are interested in visiting; you can refine flights by month or select 'anytime' to show you the cheapest deals we have ever found.

How to find the cheapest flight to a particular city?

To find the cheapest flights to any city, enter your desired destination in our search engine. After that, you choose to see the best deal in the entire year by selecting the year on our flexible dates checklist; this will give you the lowest prices ever found. Select the 'whole month' for costs in a particular month and +/- 3 days to see a few days on different sides of your chosen travel dates.

5th American detained at Turks and Caicos airport after ammo in luggage

A nother U.S. tourist was arrested for carrying ammunition in luggage at the Turks and Caicos airport on Monday, weeks after the arrest of an American tourist in the Caribbean territory made national headlines.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police told CBS News that "a visitor was arrested at the Howard Hamilton International Airport yesterday [May 13th] after ammunition was allegedly found during a routine security check." Police did not provide further details about the name or gender of the person arrested.

Monday's arrest brought the total number of Americans facing charges for ammunition possession in the British territory to five. Four of the detained Americans have said they brought in the ammunition – but by mistake.

Ryan Watson , a 40-year-old Oklahoma father of two, made national headlines after ammo was found in his luggage by airport security in April. He is currently out on bail - though confined to the island while his case moves forward – and officials require him to check in at the Grace Bay Police Station every Tuesday and Thursday. He faces a possible mandatory minimum 12-year prison term.

Just days after Watson's arrest, 30-year-old Tyler Wenrich , a Virginia EMT and father, was detained before boarding a cruise ship on April 20th. He faces a possible 12-year sentence after officials allegedly found two bullets in his luggage last month.

"I feel like, as a very honest mistake, that 12 years is absurd," his wife, Jeriann Wenrich, told CBS News in April, who said she doesn't want to see her 18-month-old son grow up without a dad.

Bryan Hagerich is another American awaiting trial after ammo was found in the Pennsylvania man's checked bag in February. "I subsequently spent eight nights in their local jail," Hagerich told CBS News. "Some of the darkest, hardest times of my life, quite frankly."

Possessing either a gun or ammunition is prohibited in Turks and Caicos, but tourists were previously able to just pay a fine. That changed in February when a court order required even tourists to potentially face mandatory prison time in addition to paying a fine. The territory's attorney general has said that if a court finds there were exceptional circumstances surrounding the discovery of ammunition, the sentencing judge has discretion to impose a custodial sentence of less than 12 years.

Eight firearms and ammunition prosecutions involving tourists from the United States have been brought on the island since November 2022.

The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory in April urging Americans traveling to Turks and Caicos to "carefully check your luggage for stray ammunition or forgotten weapons before departing from the United States," noting that "declaring a weapon in your luggage with an airline carrier does not grant permission to bring the weapon into the Turks and Caicos Islands and will result in your arrest."

"U.S. gun owners may want to take the Turks and Caicos Islands' actions into account before risking a trip to the Caribbean jurisdiction," the National Rifle Association said in a news release Monday. "Even U.S. gun owners confident in their ability to purge their luggage of any potential contraband may want to consider the wisdom of spending their money in a jurisdiction that would treat their countrymen in such a manner."

—Elizabeth Campbell, Kris Van Cleave and Alex Sundby contributed reporting.
