I loved this game so far but the puzzle in level 311 has been driving me crazy for days! It’s bunch of random pieces and I don’t even know how it’s supposed to look like at the end. There is no help and each hint you spend it just makes one move that doesn’t make any sense. I had saved almost 1K coins and they are all gone and I’m stuck. I am very close to deleting the game because of this. There should be an option to skip a level or at least a hint image to show what it’s supposed to look like when you spend coins on it!

Very unfair

Ok - the first few levels were fun, had to pay attention, but not too hard to figure out. Then I got to the level with the leg sticking out of the knothole in the barrel, the shoe brush and the dirty boot. I brushed the dirty boot, as I would clean it before putting it on in real life. Nope, lost a life. Then I put the boot on the foot first - nope lost another life. Then I took the cloth covering the window, cleaned the boot. Yay, no life lost. Then I tried to put the boot on the foot - lost another life. Tried polishing the boot with the brush, then putting it on the foot - yup, got through. So I lost THREE lives for doing things in the “wrong” order, when there was no indication of, or logical reason for, the “right” order. Next level, a cobra in a container - same thing. I thought maybe I needed to move the container, nope, lost a life. I tried to open the trunk just behind the cobra, cobra “bit” me, life lost. Now I am out of lives because I chose the “wrong” order to try things in. I am out of lives in the space of only TWO levels! Oh, and in a level just before the “boot level”, I made the mistake of hitting what I thought was a hint button, and it gave me the answer!! I didn’t want the stupid answer, I wanted a freaking HINT! I will give this game one more try, but if this nonsense keeps up, I will delete…very disappointed…

Great Game Change! Bleck!

UPDATE: Boooo…the UNSOLVABLE puzzle at level 112 was just moved to 139…I will have to get 600 coins to get six helps to solve this level by bypassing it. Since you only get a few coins for each video it’s going to take a ton of videos to get past this level. So….thanks for the 27 extra levels. But…no thanks for the month I will have to invest in ads to move on. Big raspberry from me!! ….. Thank you so much for making such sweeping changes! Mainly because I was stuck on level 112 for forever, and quit playing the game because I couldn’t go any further. With the new changes I could pass 112 and move on. When the puzzle from 112 came up at a later level it was actually solve-able, which is very much appreciated. So far so good. Thanks for the hints too.

Love this game!

I have never written a game review, but I absolutely love this game. I just finished the last level and look forward to some new levels. This game is perfect for taking a break and clearing your mind. The games are quick and you can play just one or as many as you want. The games are pretty easy which gives you a tiny sense of accomplishment. I get frustrated if the games are too hard and you get stuck on a level. I only want to play for fun. This game is very satisfying.

Amazing for all ages🤩

This is again, amazing for everyone!! The game is pretty easy so younger players can enjoy then the mini games to get out is had enough for older players. I really like this game. It is just like reading it does not matter if it’s super hard as long as you are reading it’s working your brain. I would definitely recommend this if you are new at escape rooms. And just like the name says it a fun escape room. ~The game rater

This game is a money grab

I usually enjoy escape room games. This one is irritating; the puzzles aren’t particularly challenging, which is fine, but for a free game, you can only play rooms until your life runs out, and then you have to wait for an energy refill. The catch is even if you play a room successfully, you lose a “life” just for playing the room, even if you don’t make a mistake. Also, you win coins after each room, with the option to get more if you watch an ad. Even if you choose to skip ads, you still are forced to watch one every few levels. There’s also no option to buy an ad free version of the app.

I loved it! Until…

I loved the game and was playing it fairly regularly. I had completed over 700 levels and was on a really tough one. I decided since the game had been something that I really enjoyed and I like to support developers, I would buy some coins to help me through that level. Around two or three levels later, I hit the end of the game. So now I have coins that I can’t use. The game says they will update it, but it doesn’t look like they’ve put out a new version since Halloween and it’s now January, so I’m not holding my breath. There should’ve been some head warning that I was nearing the end of the game so that I didn’t waste my money.

Game is fun, but….

Up to around level 100 now, and it’s been fun. However, when you pass a level, you are given an option of earning 2 coins or double the number of coins if you watch an ad. Even if you choose to just earn the 2 coins, often an ad would pop up anyway. What’s the point if we are forced to watch an ad regardless? I lose the 2 bonus coins and I still have to wait for the ad to end? I really don’t want to watch an ad after every level, especially if the ads are longer than the time it takes to finish some levels.

Fun quick puzzles, but poor grammar/directions.

Each level are mini games. Some are fun, some are ok, but a few of the games make no grammatical sense at all. Poor grammar plus vague instructions makes for very frustrating gameplay as I do not know what I’m doing wrong so how do I improve? Was stuck at Level 55 forever! Then after a level 80, everything becomes ridiculously easy. Like easier than all the levels before. Besides being the same games over and over again, the difficulty level decreases too.

Great game but DON’T BUY AD FREE!!

I love playing this game so much that I decided to spend the money to get ad free. BAD IDEA!! Before I went ad free, I got 5 stars every level, now I get 2. When I wanted to add more stars, I’d watch an ad and get 25 stars. Now I only get 5. Lastly, when I decided to go ad free I had not yet gone through all the levels. The next time I opened the app to play, it said there were no more levels. So there I was with over 600 stars and no more levels to play. I waited two weeks but there were still no more levels so I just deleted the app and started again. Very disappointing! I’ve been swindled!

Walkthrough [ edit ]

First room [ edit ].

The first thing you see in the room is a pellet launcher, a pellet receiver, and two platforms in a 45 o angle to the floor (as seen in the overview image). The first thing that should be done is placing a portal below the pellet launcher. Remember not to create another portal, as the pellet would go through it. After this has been done, make ready to shoot at the other platform (timing is all important here). When the pellet is between the platform and the wall (as in the image on the right), make a portal below the pellet receiver. The pellet receiver then starts the moving platforms.

Now, create a portal behind the stationary platform you can see, while looking down the hallway, and create another accessible portal.

Hallway [ edit ]

On the platform, you can see an appendix area farther down the hallway; create a portal here, and go through the one you just exited, so you are now in the appendix area. In this area there is a button, which opens the door next to you for a few seconds. Push this button, and create a portal on the other side of the door at approximately the same height as your current position. When a platform passes the portal, walk onto it (you do not have enough time to go through the door on a platform). In front of you there is a permanent pellet ricocheting between the window to the first room and the wall of the hallway. In order to deal with this, you have to create a portal on the wall, and when the pellet has gone through it, quickly create the other portal another place so the pellet does not ricochet back through the portal.

Now you are facing a wall, which you have to cross by creating a portal on that wall, and another on a higher ground on the other side, as shown in the picture to the left. When the platform reaches the wall, go into the portal, and jump back onto it when it has passed the wall. Remember that you are able to stand in the portal itself, without having the platform below you, so don't jump sooner than you should.

Oven [ edit ]

Congratulations, the test is now over. All Aperture technologies remain safely operational up to 4000 degrees kelvin. Rest assured that there is absolutely no chance of a dangerous equipment malfunction prior to your victory candescence. Thank you for participating in this Aperture Science computer aided enrichment activity. Goodbye. — GLaDOS

At this point you find out that the cake is, as prior wall-writings have indicated, a lie (or at least going through the fire is not the way to get it). Common sense should kick in (as well as some suspenseful music) and tell you that you should no longer listen to everything GLaDOS tells you. Therefore, you have to get to the platform above the oven. This is done by creating a portal on the wall behind the platform, and a portal on the wall to your side (slightly below your level, as seen in the image on the left). When this has been done, jump through the portal.

Do not worry about being chased by anything; you do not have to hurry to get out. On the platform, create a portal positioned as high as possible on the wall, and then one accessible to you. Go through the portal, and as you are falling to the ground, create a portal on the spot you will land on. Continue the only way you can into the next room.

Fourth room [ edit ]

As you try to go up the stairs, these will fall down. Create, instead, a portal on the second level and one on your level, and go through them. Or just jump onto the stairs. Go through the slightly open door by pressing your use button.

Fifth room [ edit ]

The next room appears to be something for turret building or repair. You have to get past a locked grid-door. Do this by creating a portal on the other side of it, and one on the wall, accessible to you.

Sixth room [ edit ]

Following the hallway, you come to a room with two fans blocking your advance. Create a portal on the other side of one of the fans and one on the floor in front of you. Go through the portal.

The room itself has a floor of acid, which you have to cross by creating a portal on the opposite walkway, and one on your side, as shown on the image.

After this, create a portal in one of the upper corners of the opposite wall (as shown in the image), and one on a nearby wall, in order to jump to the walkway in the middle. You can explore the side office rooms if you wish, as they let you see some of the test chambers from the other side of those mysterious windows, but they do not help with the actual game. After this, go the other direction and into the next room.

Seventh room [ edit ]

Simply coming into this room, the next step is not obvious, however there’s a little picture in red indicating the portal placement necessary. Maybe the turret X drawer has been here too?

Get to one of the higher platforms (either will do, not much momentum is needed), by either walking or creating a portal there, and another one accessible to you. Then, create a portal in the upper far right corner of the wall. Let yourself fall, and create a portal on the spot you will land on. This way you will build up enough momentum to cross to the platform opposite to the wall.

Follow the hallway to the tube transporting cubes, and enter it.

Test area [ edit ]

At the end of the tube, you are put into a cube dispenser, from which you enter a very familiar test area. No cube this time, but on the other hand, you have both halves of the portal gun.

In the test area, stand on the button in the middle of the room, and create a portal behind the door that opens. Then create an accessible portal, and walk through it. When walking farther, you get to the chamber lock, however this is malfunctional, and you have to jump down.

Chamber lock area [ edit ]

Now, create a portal on the underside of the platform on the other side of the grid-wall (as seen in the image), and then one under yourself. Then duck, in order to get into the room.

Uh oh! Somebody cut the cake. I told them to wait for you, but they cut it anyway. There is still some left though, if you hurry back. — GLaDOS

When you are in the room, go to the two pistons, which raise to two different levels. Go onto the one that raises the highest, and create a portal on the top of the platform you just entered through. Go back under the platform, create a portal there and use it to get on top of the platform.

Walk onto the cylinder next to the platform, and let it push you to the platform to continue. Walk along the hallway, until you get to a grating. Create a portal on the other side of it, then go back to the platform to create a portal there, and walk through it.

Vent shaft [ edit ]

Create a portal as high as possible, opposite to the walkway leading away from the shaft. Then create one accessible to you. On the other side of the portal you have to jump in order to make it to the other side (the timing here can be rather hard).

No Cheating SpeedRun in One Segment for Mere Mortals [ edit ]

This chamber (and the rest of the game) does not have an associated time challenge, so the only reason to learn how to go through quickly is for a speedrun. Like the moving platform part of Chamber 15 , it takes too long to get through the corridors the obvious way, so use peek-a-portal instead. Upon reaching the platform above the fire pit, there are no more opportunities for clever tricks and it is necessary to follow the normal path, executing quickly and perfectly. As always, practice until your best moves are in muscle memory.

As you step out of the chamberlock, place a portal at the other end of the corridor high on the left wall. Place the other portal under your feet as you step out and fall through, getting a boost towards the first room. Disregard the energy pellet mechanism and advance just until you can see around the corner and along the first section of the corridor above the toxic goo. Place the blue portal on a wall nearby and the orange portal on the far wall to the right of the fixed grating in the corner and somewhat below your present level. From this portal, you will need to be able to sight underneath the sliding partition that blocks the next section of corridor, but not be so low as to touch the toxic goo and take damage. Turning to the left, slide to the right through the blue portal until the glow around the portal changes to orange, but not far enough to fall out of the orange portal and into the goo. Shoot a new orange portal along the corridor to hit the far wall at about the same height, i.e. low, but clear of the goo, and immediately slide left to emerge from the blue portal before the orange portal moves. The corridors are quite long (longer than in Chamber 15), so there is plenty of time to pull this off. Repeat the exact same thing to bypass the next section of the corridor, keeping below the bouncing energy pellet. Repeat again, but this time take more care over the new orange portal placement. By keeping the portals low, you can again sight under the partition that blocks the corridor. This next one needs to be in a fairly tight area such that you will be able to sight over the platform above the fire pit but under the obstructing end wall of the goo corridor. Practice until you can find this spot reliably. After pulling back through the blue portal, you will be looking through the portals directly at the fire pit.

It is hard to judge how far to advance for a peek-a-portal when you're facing directly forwards, so again turn to the side and watch for the color change. Then turn forwards and shoot the orange portal at the back wall over the fire pit and pull straight back before it lands. Your view through the blue portal will change and you can step through onto the platform. You're now done with peek-a-portal in this chamber; the rest follows the normal walkthrough, optimized where possible and executed promptly and perfectly. Have your moves memorized, don't dally and practice, practice, practice.

As soon as you're on the platform over the fire pit, place a portal at the top of the wall behind you and the other under your feet. Fall and move the floor portal under you to fling over to the area with the large tanks. Turn to the left (in mid-air, don't waste time by waiting until you land) and head for the stairs. As soon as you have a sight-line to the wall over the walkway, place a portal up there (at the level of the walkway, otherwise you'll waste time falling), place the other portal in the wall nearby and walk through, turning left. Walk to the door, open it and go through.

In the next room (the "Fifth Room" listed in the Walkthrough, above), don't waste time portaling up to the walkway and then into the smaller room at the side. As soon as you come in through the door, place a portal on the wall of the side room, shooting behind the locked gate. To your left and to your right beyond the electrical box are portalable walls, so place the other portal and walk through. Swing left and open the next door. Without going through, shoot a portal towards the wall behind the large fan that you can see on the far side. It will probably be a matter of luck whether it lands on the wall or hits a fan blade, so back up, keeping your eye on it, and try again if necessary. You're backing up because placing the other portal on the wall to the left of the door is quicker than entering the room and walking forward until the floor is portalable.

When you're past the fan, turn to the right and shoot a portal along the wall and just under the suspended walkway to land on the far wall. You could put it high on the wall, but then you will be delayed by the fall. If you're keeping track of portal colors, now just go through the portal you're standing next to.

Otherwise, if you've used the wrong color, you'll have to replace that portal. Once through, you're looking back towards the alcove into which you just came by going past the fan. There is a matching alcove and fan on the right hand side of the large room. Ignore the side rooms to your left and shoot a portal high on the wall above the right-hand fan alcove. Turn and jump through the other portal on the back wall to land on the suspended walkway. You're aiming for the part of the walkway that is wider than the center part so as to avoid over-shooting. Turn left and leave the room, passing a danger sign.

Turn to the right in the next room. Move to the left so that you can place a portal high on the wall that you are now facing. You need to shoot around the metal flooring that is bent down over your head and get the portal far enough to the right so that when you come out of it you will land on that strip of flooring. Advance to the edge, jump off and place the other portal on the floor under you. The jump is needed to ensure that the fling takes you far enough to reach the bent metal flooring. Press and hold the move-forward key until you can see to the left around the next corner. The tube with the jagged hole in it is up on the higher level, but you can't see it. The obvious way up is to trudge around to the bottom of the stairs and walk up. It is quicker, however, if you place a portal as close as possible to directly over the tube, turn around, drop back down to the lower level (but not through a portal there) and place the other portal under your feet to drop gently through. Turn around to find the hole in the tube and go in.

After a ride in the tube, you will fall into a Vital Apparatus Vent (dispenser). Towards the end of the ride, look down, as this will give you the best chance of positioning yourself to land cleanly in the bottom of the vent and quickly triggering it to open. You will fall into Test Chamber 9. Immediately walk through the Emancipation Grid and towards the exit door. As you pass over the button and the door opens, place a portal on the wall behind it. Place the other portal on the floor just ahead of you and drop through. Turn at once to the right as you come out and go to where the chamberlock ought to be. But, there is no chamberlock, so just drop down the shaft. So that you are immediately ready to continue when you reach the bottom, turn through 180 degrees as you fall.

Place a portal on the underside of the horizontal structure that you see ahead of you, place the other portal under your feet and drop through, turning 90 degrees to your right and moving forward. You are facing a pair of shiny metal pistons. Wait until they come down and move forward again to stand on the second one. Turn 180 degrees to look back at the structure that you just portaled out of. When the piston rises, place a portal on top of that structure. Turn around, drop off of the piston and walk in an arc around to your left, threading your way between the shiny steel pillars and up a short set of steps. Continue turning left and you will see the horizontal structure again. Crouch and on the bottom surface, close to you, place the opposite portal to the one you have on top. Keep going until you are under that portal, stand up and jump up out of the top surface.

Turn to your left and you will see a long, shiny, steel piston traveling horizontally. If you have made good time, it should be drawing back. Jump onto it and turn towards the way it will travel. As it extends, go with it and jump onto the platform at the end. Quickly turn left, place a portal on the wall though the grill-covered opening that you will see and complete the left turn to jump back onto the piston before it starts to move again. It will draw you back towards the horizontal structure. Make sure that you have the opposite portal to the one you shot through the grill on top of this structure, jump onto it from the piston and go through. You will land in a narrow vertical shaft. Without turning, look up and place a portal as high as possible on the side facing you. Look back down, turning 90 degrees to your right and stepping back slightly, place the other portal there, move forwards and jump through. You should make it into an opening that was above your previous level. Go forwards and to your left to reach the end-of-level trigger.

From the opening of the entry chamberlock to the end-of-level trigger should be less than two minutes and twenty seconds.

This is my number one Escape room. Very high tech, very cool special effects, extremely effective puzzles, immersion set pieces, it's the works. Its only flaw isn't even with the game itself, its with all TEG games, that being public rooms. If you're in the area, and only have time for one game game, go for Timeliner. Again, like The Depths and Special ops, you want a smaller group for this, probably around 4, otherwise you'll be tripping all over each other

This game moved very fast for us (however we also achieved the fastest time our GM’s had seen). Overall, because we flew through, it wasn’t as worth it for me. However still a unique idea and fun theme.

An ok room. Started out really good, with puzzles that fit the theme and the immersion was good. Once the first door opened to an auxiliary room the immersion faded and the room felt like it was just packed with puzzles but just for bulk and not for help driving the storyline like they did at the beginning. There were 5 of us and that was almost too many, so if they public booking 8 of you, hope you enjoy standing around for an hour. They really should stop public bookings. They’re awkward and really aren’t that fun.

Probably in my top 5 favorite escape games!! TEG outdid themselves with the decor in here! It really feels like you’re on a time traveling train.

Rare miss by TEG. I didn't like this room, although my rating may have been influenced by the randoms in the room with us. Decor was good, but with 7 people just too many in a smaller space. Good game for 3-4 honestly.

One of the more recent room at the Escape Games. Very high tech and something I'd recommend for beginners. I found this room to be very intuitive and easy so I mostly enjoyed this escape room for the set-design, props, and overall story. I would say this room just felt fun and I didn't have to take it seriously. Would suggest 3-4 people max though!

This escape room experience is friendly to beginners. With Escape Game, there is a probability that you would get paired up with strangers if there is room in your time slot. We played with folks who are beginners and they had a great time. I found the puzzles to be straightforward, and not too challenging. We had a total of 6 people in our group, and we finished with 20 minutes to spare. The train vibes actually worked for me. The storyline is that you are traveling through different time periods and locations. There is a train ticket element that is tactile and high tech with the high definition displays. Having done all of the Escape Game rooms (Special Ops, Prison Break, Depths, the Heist), this one is a solid experience but it would not be my top because of how straightforward the puzzles are compared to other ones I've done. Four is a good number of players here and it's still worth the drive to San Bernardino to try out this place!

• You are the only citizen of TEMPUS, a small island far from civilisation where you live a quiet and carefree life. One night everything changes and a blinding light appears along with a thunderous sound, as you approach the light disappears revealing a portal and some basic instructions. As you enter, you discover that it is a time travel portal and you appear in your home, but 200 years in the future. You soon realise that this is a one-way trip as you cannot travel backwards in time, only forwards. I’m back with another walkthrough for Rooms & Exits: Chapter 1 Level 19 is the one we’re solving today. All the details you need to know to pass the level are right here.

Completing this level wasn’t easy (it never is in this game), but fortunately, I did manage to figure out all the puzzles out and now I am able to share the full solution with you.

Without further ado, here is the Rooms & Exits: Chapter 1 Level 19 – Exchange Office walkthrough!

• Look under the doormat to find a key .
• Then in the trash bin, you’ll find a puzzle piece and a wire .
• Check the first aid cupboard on the right wall.
• Get the other puzzle piece , the glove , the gloves’ box , the medical adhesive , the cotton dressing , and the scissors .
• Look at the thermometer and notice it says 37 degrees.
• Open the first aid magazine and look through it.
• Notice the last medical symbol is on pink paper.
• Click the panel on the left wall, under the camera.
• Tap on the pink button until you get the medical symbol in the magazine.
• Tap on the other panel with two buttons.
• Press the first button 3 times and the second button 7 times.
• It will give you a handle .
• Click on the outlet next to the ATM.
• Combine the adhesive with the scissors, to get just a piece.
• Now combine the scissors and the glove.
• You’ll find a door handle .
• Use the wires to the outlet to fix the plug.
• Use the piece of adhesive to the wires to glue them together.
• Use the first handle on the shutters and open it to see behind the windows.
• Remember the flags, go to the TV on the right wall, and move it to the side.
• Tap 1 on the calculator and click on Bolivia’s flag. Remember the digits: 007,67
• Go to the panel with the country currency and tap that number for Bolivia.
• Argentina: 2 – 066,47
• Azerbaijan: 3 – 001,89
• Canada: 4 – 001,46
• Costa Rica: 5 – 629,06
• Enter the door that opens after you’re done.
• Look at the papers on the floor and move them to get another puzzle piece .
• On the desk, next to the laptop, there’s another puzzle piece in between the stack of books.
• Tap on the printer and get that blue piece with holes from behind.
• Tap on the fax machine next to it, turn it on and you’ll get a dollar bill .
• Check the coats by the door, hanging on the wall, and take the puzzle piece from there.
• Go to the water bottle and take the screwdriver next to it.
• Click on the blue drawer on the left wall and use the blue item with holes over the digits there.
• Tap on the digits you see through the holes: 543210 , in this order, so the drawer opens.
• You can collect another puzzle piece from inside.
• Go take a look at the vent on the left wall.
• Use the screwdriver to open it, and take the black mark pen .
• Look at the graphic on the wall, then move the chair away from the desk and notice the files under the desk and how they are positioned.
• Now you can take the cutter from the hiding spot.
• Next to the coats on the right wall, there’s a frame where you need to solve your puzzle.
• After it is solved you need to enter the right digits.
• The flags are random and you need to figure out the pattern by yourself.
• See which flag has 3 horizontal lines, follow the string and insert 3 in that box.
• Flags without 3 horizontal lines have 0 by default (like Canada, Turkey or Brazil)
• The answer here is 0 3 3 3 3 , but you might get a different answer to your puzzle.
• Use the door handle on the safe box and open it to get the piece of paper.
• Go to the printer and put the paper inside.
• Tap the laptop and enter the password. It’s the framed symbols next to the ATM.
• Count the edges and do the math: 6×6-12= 24
• After you type 24 as a password, click on the camera icon, and look through the videos.
• You can look through the file icon after and print that & document.
• Take the blue & paper , then dismantle the cotton dressing, and the box of gloves, you’ll get a new item and a 5 Euro bill .
• Go back to the first room and pick up the blue envelope from the floor.
• Combine the cutter and the blue envelope to get a red @ note .
• Now go to the panel on the left wall, next to the big door, and find the symbols for each colored button.
• The clues are in your inventory.
• Now it’s time you get out of there.

My game won’t dismantle the cotton dressing. What are the colored symbols? I have the yellow #, pink medical symbol, green $, red @, and blue €. What is the gray square? If mine are wrong, which ones and what’s the correct answer?

If you didn’t get your answer, the blue is the & sign and the gray is the euro symbol €

Millennials and Gen Zers want human connection, so they're choosing travel tours with strangers to cure their loneliness

• Intrepid Travel said young people are seeking immersive, non-traditional vacation experiences. 
• Millennials share more travel similarities with Gen Z travelers than previous generations.
• Young travelers are prioritizing interest-based travel over destination-based travel.

Young people are seeking more human connection in the post-lockdown era, so they're embracing small-group travel.

Modern technology and social media apps have created a hyper-connected world, but many millennials and Gen Zers say the focus on screens has caused an epidemic of loneliness .

While New apps and local community groups are trying to address this "social distance" problem, some young people are choosing to book their vacations with strangers to find more face-to-face camaraderie.

Intrepid Travel, which organizes small-group experiences in over 100 countries, including Morocco and Sri Lanka, says it's seen a growing interest from young people in these kinds of group tours.

"They're prioritizing travel over buying houses, mortgages, and other expenses," Matt Berna, Intrepid Travel's president of the Americas, told Business Insider.

Group travel can be hit-or-miss with people. They can conjure an image of 40-plus tourists being led off a bus to an overcrowded attraction by their shouting tour guide.

But Berna said Intrepid Travel's focus on small group experiences is the opposite. The average Intrepid Travel group has 10 people.

"It allows us to travel like locals," Berna said. "We eat in small local restaurants. We stay in family-owned hotels. We typically avoid mass market tourism, hotels, or experiences."

It also allows people to form new bonds in a tight-knit setting, which young travelers crave, after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Camaraderie in a group is so special because you make great friendships and share laughs and stories," Berna said.

Berna said these unique experiences are popular with 18 to 29-year-olds — Intrepid Travel's core audience. Experiences are designed with young travelers in mind, offering more free time to explore on their own and more active outings.

Berna said Intrepid Travel began receiving requests from people in their 30s looking for adventures off the beaten path. Millennials traditionally valued experience-driven opportunities , and that desire hasn't waned with time.

"It became clear that millennials are aging, but the style they want to travel is immersive," Berna said. "If anything, they resonated more with Gen Z than the generations above them."

American Express Travel's 2023 Global Travel Trends Report found nearly 80% of millennials and Gen Zers respondents said they want to "partake in a day in the life of locals in the destination they are visiting," pointing toward activities like visiting local cultural sites and "hole-in-the-wall" attractions.

Airbnb, owned by millennial billionaire Brian Chesky , reported in 2020 that it also found that "immersive encounters" were becoming more popular with this generation, with interest up 102% year-to-year.

Older generations, Berna said, book vacations based on destination. Older travelers tend to plan vacations around conventional tourist spots — think the Eiffel Tower in Paris — because it's popular.

However, younger travelers don't have the same sense of FOMO — or "the fear of missing out" — that their parents do. Instead, they book vacations by interest.

At Intrepid Travel, that includes cycling enthusiasts traveling to Vietnam to peddle through the local sites. Experiences based on camping, festivals, and food are also options travelers can explore.

"They want to be a trendsetter going to the next cool place," Berna said. "It will be something new you can share with your friends, so you get the bragging rights. It's a bit more adventurous instead of following the crowd."

After conducting consumer research among its more than 300,000 travelers, Intrepid Travel formally expanded the young trip age range to 35 in February.

"Intrepid identified an opportunity to better cater for an expanded age range after experiencing a rise in inquiries from travelers in their early 30s wanting to join Intrepid's young adult trips," a press release said. "The company conducted extensive consumer research which showed that most travelers aged 18 to 35 prefer to travel with those of a similar age."

As for where travelers are going, Berna said South America has emerged as a top contender, with Peru gaining traction. The country closed its tourist attractions amid political unrest from late 2022 to early 2023, but they reopened in February 2023, according to Travel Weekly .

Another top spot is South Korea, which Berna said is typically more affordable than Japan. Intrepid Travel said they saw 172% increase globally in bookings to South Korea from 2022 to 2023.

"People want to go away and have these stories. They've settled back post-pandemic into feeling life, wanting to travel again, and seeking connection," Berna said. "Not just with other travelers in groups but with destinations."
