View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sripraphai Thai Restaurant (@sripraphai_thai)

SriPraPhai has been considered the best Thai restaurant in all of NYC —for many years. Their food is authentic and tasty. Some of their popular appetizers are papaya salads, steamed chicken dumplings, fried pork, and crabmeat roll. The menu is so huge with so many selections. Their Thai classics dishes are excellent, including the famous Pad Thai.

While you can get Panang curry on practically any Thai restaurant menu, Sripraphai makes it a bit differently. This curry is spicy and served on a flat dish rather than floating in a rich coconut milk soup. It’s delicious with a layer of creamy coconut milk poured on top.

You can also get excellent mouthwatering seafood .

In the last few years, the restaurant went through a revamp, including a new outdoor patio with beautiful flowers and a bubbling fountain.

This is an “only cash” no credit card accepted.

La Pequeña Colombia

View this post on Instagram A post shared by La Pequeña Colombia (@lapequena.colombia)

La Pequeña Colombia is a long-standing restaurant that serves fantastic typical Colombian cuisine; once you taste the quality of the food they create, you’ll see why they’ve lasted so long.

There’s lots of pork, chicken, and fish on the menu, but there’s also a vegetarian plate available for individuals who don’t eat meat. It’s essentially a Colombian cuisine of rice, beans, plantains, potato, or yucca with vegetables added on top.

The Plato Montafiero, on the other hand, is a terrific way for omnivores to experience Colombian comfort food—rice, beans, maduros, an egg, chicharones, and beef.

Casa Enrique

Casa Enrique serves up delicious regional Mexican food in a casual and bright setting. Their aguas frescas are fantastic, and their guacamole is chunky and can be spiced to your liking.

The tacos are delicious—try the al pastor!

Entrees come in the form of enchiladas, pozole, and braised lamb shank in chilies; the chicken mole is fantastic. Best to leave room for dessert—their tres leches cake is spectacular, as is their warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream .

Shanghai You Garden

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shanghai You Garden (@shanghaiyougarden)

Shanghai You Garden is the perfect place to get your dim sum needs fulfilled.  The customers love their soup dumplings , which come with a variety of different fillings including pork or veg options as well seafood!

The skin isn’t too thick and delicate like some places can make them out be; these are super thin but also tender enough that they’ll stay together when you pick up one.

The exterior of these delicious dumplings is dyed to show you which variety they are. You can choose between 10 different xiao long bao, all tender and juicy on the inside with their unique skins colored differently for identifying them easily!

Order a plate of pan-fried pork buns that have the perfect thickness, or if you’re feeling adventurous order half Peking duck at $20 per dish.

Ballpark Game Plan: New York Mets & Citi Field

Heather

Field: Citi Field

Official Site: https://www.mlb.com/mets/ballpark

Year Completed: 2009

Capacity: 41,800

Covered: No – Postponement/Rainout Policy

Mascot: Mr. Met & Mrs. Met

The Game We’ll See: Monday, August 7: Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets ( see all 30 here! )

Parking & Transportation :

Citi Field has five parking lots, all of which are strictly cashless. Parking is $40 during regular season.

Tailgating is not allowed in Lots A, B, or G. Tailgating is permitted in other lots with some restrictions.

Oversized vehicle: The bus lot is north of Citi Field on Shea Road. It is commonly referred to as “Pork Chop Hill,” and opens one hour prior to the stadium gates opening.

Fans can also attend the game using mass transit. Citi Field recommends taking the subway or the 7 Train to Citi Field.

Stadium Tours :

Citi Field offers a few different options for tours on game days. The “Take Me Out to Citi Field” tour starts at 1:00 and costs $40 per person. The 60-minute tour includes the press conference room, the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Rotunda, among other features. The Grand Slam Tour includes batting practice and priority access on promotional give aways and is $60 per person. The All Star Tour gives fans on-field access to watch batting practice and is $199 per person. Finally, The Line Drive Experience does not include the regular tour but does allow participants to watch batting practice from the warning track behind home plate.

General Information :

Bags : Citi Field prohibits backpacks but allows other bags and soft-sided coolers that do not exceed 16” x 16” x 8”. Totally clear backpacks are permitted in the park.

Food & Beverages: Fans may bring in their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Foods must be in personal serving sizes and may not be packed in glass containers. Each fan is allowed to bring in one, factory-sealed bottle of water that is 20 ounces or smaller. Empty metal water bottles are allowed.

Cashless transactions: All transactions are cashless.

Signs: Signs are permitted if they are baseball-related, don’t block views, interfere with the game, contain advertising, or contain offensive materials.

Foul Balls: Fans may keep foul balls, as long as they don’t interfere with play or enter the playing area to retrieve them.

Gates: All gates open 2 hours prior to the game.

Umbrellas: There are no restrictions on umbrellas, including size. However, they must not interfere with another fan’s enjoyment of the game.

Where to Sit:

Ballpark Savvy reports that there few bad seats at Citi Field. They do recommend avoiding Sections 532 to 538. The best value seats are in Sections 510 to 518. These are behind home plate, but higher.

Baseball Bucket List suggests that the best seats for game views are on the 300 level, on the first and third base lines. The 400 Promenade Club sections (Sections 406 to 423) are best value for view versus price. They recommend sitting a few rows back to avoid handrails. The handrails have a silver top that runs over the plexiglass front and it blocks your view.

For shade, try the third base side, particularly in the 300 level. The last 10 rows of any level also generally block the sun.

For foul balls, try Sections 121 to 124 on the third base side, and 111 to 114 on the first base side.

Baseball Road Trips also recommends sections 121 to 124 or 125 to 126, in the lower rows. For the best value, the Excelsior Box, Sections 326 to 333, in higher rows, are also excellent seats. For particularly good views (at higher prices) try for sections 130 to 142.

If the prices seem a bit rich for your budget, The Ultimate Baseball Road Trip suggests buying 500 level seats and looking for a place to stand behind Section 114.

  • According to InsideHook, the New York Mets’ signature dish is the NY Deli Pastrami Sandwich, which can be found in Sections 119, 126, 337, 417, and the Piazza 31 Club.
  • The Ultimate Baseball Road Trip disagrees. They suggest that the Shake Shack’s Shack Burger is the trademark food. This concessionaire’s two beef patties with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onion and sauce have people lining up well before the game begins.
  • Like the Yankees, the Mets feature Nathan’s all beef hot dog at Citi Field.

First Time Visitors:

Visit the Fan Assistance Booth at the top of the escalator and to the left coming from the Rotunda. You’ll see a QR code. Scan it and enter some basic information, and they’ll have a custom certificate printed for you. If you visit during the first two innings of the game, you can pick it up the same day. Otherwise, they’ll mail it to you.

Autographs:

According to the official MLB site for Citi Field, the best opportunity for fans to get autographs is during batting practices, on the first and third base lines. Head to sections 106  through 108/109 and 125/126 through 128. Please do not ask staff members to request autographs or photos from players or coaches.

Other Stadium Tips & Highlights:

Volunteer to be your group’s designated driver and Citi Field will reward you with a free 22-ounce fountain soda at most concession stands. Sign up on the Ballpark App or by visiting the Designated Driver Booth on the 3 rd base side near Section 119.

The Mets Hall of Fame & Museum is located next to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda and the Team Store and is open from the time the gates open until the ballpark closes. It includes interactive exhibits, the team’s trophies and rings, and plaques for every hall of Fame member who played for the Yankees.

The Jackie Robinson Rotunda includes a sculpture in honor of Jackie Robinson. The statue and Rotunda are designed to reflect Robinson’s nine values: courage, integrity, determination, persistence, citizenship, justice, commitment, teamwork, and excellence.

On the Mets Plaza, the Seaver Statue honors Tom Seaver, a three-time Cy Young Award winner. It is located next to the Shea Stadium Home Run Apple.

The Shea Bridge is a tribute to Shea Stadium and leads to the Center Field Plaza. It has great views of the field.

The Ford Fitness Area, located on the field level in Center Field, features equipment where fans can test their strength at body weight exercises. Each game, during the bottom of the 5 th inning, an adult fan can compete against “the Machine.” This section closes at the top of the 7 th inning.

The Mets’ retired numbers include:

  • 14 – Gil Hodges
  • 24 – Willie Mays
  • 31 – Mike Piazza
  • 36 – Jerry Koosman
  • 37 – Casey Stengel
  • 41 – Tom Seaver
  • SHEA – William Shea
  • 42 – Jackie Robinson (retired by the MLB)

One of the best stadium tours and goodies to boot!

Having been of several stadium tours this ranks right up there, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, the tour is very informative and takes you into all the places you want to get to and a few besides most likely. Great to get into the dugouts and walk around the field edge, ball pen and so on. The only restrictions were no photos in the players locker rooms area but beyond that it was click away with the tour guide happy to take those key photos for you so you can be in the shot. We got a couple of goodies too, a T-Shirt and some stickers all in the very reasonable price. My only note would be the ticket office is not the easiest to find, it is behind the main ticket booths adjacent to the atrium, almost looks like you arent meant to go down there!

When Shea Stadium was torn down, die-hard Mets fans felt betrayed. However, the new stadium resembles (on the outside) Ebbetts Field, and it's much nicer than Shea in many ways. Plus, of course, it's the home of the Mets, who have some of the most steadfast and sometimes crazy fans.

Disclaimer: I am a life-long, die-hard Mets fanatic, so this review will be biased ;-) Despite this bias, this is still THE baseball stadium to visit if you are in the NYC area. The other stadium in The Bronx cannot hold a candle to Cit Field's hominess. There are kid friendly activities beyond center field and the food selections aren't too shabby. You may want to consider avoiding the stadium parking lot and park in the Marina parking lot (look for the signs) to make a faster exit after the game. The Mets are the team to see these days, so make every effort to see them if you are in town.

What a gorgeous Staduim for some Great Baseball. Love the openness of the views, honestly not a bad seat in the house. Its perfect. If your in NYC and can't afford to go see the Yankees, hop over to Queens and see those METS!

We all had a great time at Citi Field. Mike Fox was our group sales representative, his customer service skills are exceptional. Great ballpark, family friendly and great food.

As a Mets fan who has been coming to Citi Field since it opened. I can say if you're from out of town and planning a trip here. You will not be disappointed. It's family friendly, great food and now that the Mets were in the World Series the park should be hopping this year. Come enjoy a game of fun baseball in a great park.

Stadium History | Parking & Admission | Seating & Capacity | Food & Concessions

Citi Field is located in Flushing, Queens, New York City, and is the home of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball . The stadium opened in 2009, replacing the previous home venue of the Mets, Shea Stadium. Plans to improve Shea Stadium began in the ’90s. The original stadium was built as a multi-purpose stadium in 1964 and hosted the NFL’s New York Jets in addition to the Mets. In 1983, the Jets moved to Giants Stadium, making Shea Stadium a permanent baseball venue. With no other tenants, it became apparent that Shea Stadium was no longer a suitable baseball venue.

Construction for the stadium began in 2006, adjacent to the existing Shea Stadium. Building was complete by the end of 2008, and Citi Field was ready for MLB Opening Day in 2009. The first regular season game played at Citi Field was against the San Diego Padres . The venue has hosted many events in addition to baseball games played by the Mets, including concerts and events for other professional sports leagues.

Citi Field’s address is 41 Seaver Way, and was permanently changed in 2019 to honor former Mets pitcher, Tom Seaver, whose jersey number was 41 and who led the Mets to their 1969 World Series Championship.

Citi Field History

The first game played at Citi Field was a college baseball game between St. John’s and Georgetown on March 29, 2009. The Mets played their first games in the Stadium on April 3 and 4, 2009 against the Boston Red Sox.

Citi Field’s design pays homage to several previous baseball stadiums in New York. The green seats of the stadium are built after the Polo Grounds, which was the longtime home of the New York baseball Giants, and was the first home for the Mets. The façade pays homage to Ebbets Field which was the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers until their move to Los Angeles in 1957. Citi Field is the only MLB park to feature orange foul poles instead of the standard yellow. This feature was borrowed from Shea Stadium.

One of the most prominent features in the stadium is the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, located at the front entrance of Citi Field. The rotunda is named after Brooklyn Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson and recognizes his life and career accomplishments. The rotunda floor features words and images that define Robinson’s nine values: Courage, Excellence, Persistence, Justice, Teamwork, Commitment, Citizenship, Determination, and Integrity. There is also an 8-foot tall sculpture of Robinson’s iconic number 42. The rotunda was dedicated on April 15, 2009, as part of the celebration for Jackie Robinson Day.

The first concerts held at Shea Stadium were headlined by Paul McCartney on July 17, 18 and 21, 2009. McCartney played a historic show at Shea Stadium as a member of The Beatles in 1965. The 2009 concert sold out all 180,000 tickets within hours of the announcement.

The Mets hosted the 2013 MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field, and competed in the 2015 World Series. The Mets won their first World Series game at Citi Field against the Kansas City Royals in Game 3. The Royals won the World Series in Game 5 with a 7–2 win over the Mets.

Parking and Admission at Citi Field

There are six lots that can be used for parking that are conveniently located around the stadium. Parking for cars costs $30 for regular season games, and $50 for postseason games and special events. Oversized vehicles and buses are permitted and parking costs $60 for regular season games, $90 for postseason games and $100 for postseason events.

The Mets recommend arriving to Citi Field using the #7 Subway line, but other transportation options include the New York City Bus and Train systems, with both offering convenient access to the stadium.

Citi Field rules require all guests to be screened via metal detectors before entering the stadium. Because of this screening, Citi Field recommends guests arrive early to any event. Guests must empty pockets of cell phones, cameras and any large metal objects. Citi Field’s bag policy states that bags must be soft-sided and 16″ x 16″ x 8″ or smaller. All bags will be inspected prior to entry. All guests, including children, must be screened and toddlers and infants may be carried through. If the metal detectors are alerted of any other devices, an additional screening is required by a handheld metal detector, or by physical pat down. Once screening has been completed, guests will be able to have their tickets scanned and entry will be permitted to the stadium.

Citi Field Capacity & Seating Options

NY Mets seating chart

Citi Field’s capacity for baseball games is 41,922 — almost 15,000 seats less than its predecessor, Shea Stadium. One of the main focuses for the new stadium was to ensure that Citi Field seating provided enough comfort that would be acceptable for the modern fan. This update reduced capacity by creating wider seats (19-24″) and more legroom (33-39″) for guests.

There is no shortage of VIP options at Citi Field. The stadium holds 53 luxury suites with 7,800 club seats. This is an increase from the previous stadium, which featured 45 suites and 4,327 club seats. These changes give any fan a VIP experience at Citi Field.

What are the best seats at Citi Field?

The best seats at Citi Field vary depending on the event and personal preferences. Check out Citi Field seating charts  and find your favorite seat today.

Food & Beverage Options at Citi Field

Citi Field offers a wide array of food and beverage options with concession stands located conveniently throughout the stadium.

You aren’t limited to peanuts and cracker jacks at Citi Field. Some of the most popular dining options include Shake Shack, Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, Sweet Chick, Cento Percento, Lobster Shack, and many more! Whether you’re looking for a hot dog at the park, or a full BBQ plate, chances are you will find it at Citi Field.

All-Star Game at Citi Field

When it became time for the New York Mets to fabricate and install their 2013 All-Star Game sign for all the loyal fans at Citi Field to enjoy, there was only one place they looked – North Shore Neon Sign Co. We worked in cooperation with the NY Mets and Major League Baseball to manufacture the sign and installed it while the team was off on a west coast trip. The project line was a tight one but the end result was something to be proud of! We hope to see you at the ballpark soon.

New Kids on the Block has a special relationship with Long Island. The boy band sensation, whose members are now in their 50s, experienced a seminal moment in their career when they played Westbury Music Fair on April 29, 1988. The fivesome was supposed to open for Tiffany, but the crowd was so ravenous for New Kids they had to flip-flop positions.

“It’s a very unique, loving hometown vibe for us on Long Island,” says singer Joey McIntyre, 51. “We were outsiders from Boston who were still very close to New York. But Nassau County was where it all blew up for us.”

The group will return with its “Magic Summer Tour” to Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on Aug. 4 with special guests Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

NKOTB is just one of many acts heading our way this summer. Here are the best shows to look forward to from June until September.

Citi Field Awarded One Of The Best Sports Venues In America For 2024

Citi Field, home of the Mets, was just named one of the winners for Front Office Sports 2024 Best Venues list, including nine other industry venues.

Justine Golata

Front Office Sports just released their 2024 Best Venues list and named NYC’s Citi Field as one of the winners. The annual ranking analyzes industry-wide venues in the United States based on submitted applications, judging each on food options , mobile app features, technologies, available transportation, venue design and more.

Among the 10 recognized venues, Hard Rock Stadium, State Farm Arena, Globe Life Field, Prudential Center, TD Garden, Wells Fargo Center, Churchill Downs Racetrack, Citi Field, Frost Bank Center, and Mood Center all exceeded in meeting the demands of fans and the aforementioned categories.

Citi Field

This isn’t the first year the Mets have been recognized as a Front Office Sports winner. The Mets previously won Front Office Sports Best Employers in Sports in both 2022 and 2019. Throughout the years, Citi Field has continued to invest in itself, now owning the largest scoreboard (17,400 square feet) in MLB , 300 LCD screens, and one 3D anamorphic display.

“We are thrilled to be named a winner of the new, Front Office Sports 2024 Best Venues Award,” said Katie Haas, EVP of Ballpark Operations, New York Mets “This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of countless members of our staff and partners who go above and beyond to ensure that we not only have one of the best ballparks in the country, but also provide a best-in-class fan experience at Citi Field whether you are here for a baseball game, soccer match, concert or one of the many other events hosted here each year.”

Citi Field, Prudential Center win ‘Best Venues Award’ from Front Office Sports

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Front Office Sports (FOS) announced the 10 winners of its inaugural “Best Venues Award,” and venues in New Jersey and New York City made the list.

Venues that were home to professional, collegiate or minor league sports teams responded to FOS’ “questions about their technologies, mobile app features, food options/dietary inclusivity, transportation offerings, mixed-use functionality, and overall venue design.”

Things To Do Around NYC

The Prudential Center in Newark, home to the New Jersey Devils and Seton Hall Men’s Basketball team, was selected as one of the top choices because of its upgrades over the last several years, FOS said. The outlet highlighted the Prudential Center’s addition of Levy Restaurants as a new partner for hospitality as an upgrade that showed “dedication to the fan experience as a world-class venue.”

“It is an honor to stand as one of the winners of this accomplished list for Front Office Sports’ inaugural Best Venues Award,” said Jake Reynolds, president of New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center. “Prudential Center prides itself on its commitment to the fan experience and making this venue a marquee destination in New Jersey. We are continuously rolling out upgrades to ensure we provide our fans with the best experience, world-class service and something new to anticipate with each visit here.”

Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets , also made the list because the operators want to make every seat the best seat.

The full list of winners are:

When scoring the responses from each venue, FOS said the following was considered:

Novel technologies that improve and enhance the gameday experience

New approaches to simplifying and speeding up the merchandise and concessions process

Exciting and engaging menu items

Efficient ingress, egress and wayfinding

Facilitated transportation

Easy access to wireless connectivity

Physical and cybersecurity

Mixed-use development opportunities

Venue design features

FOS is also holding awards for the Most Sustainable, Best College Athletic Department, Most Impactful, Best Employer in Sports and Rising 25. For a full list of awards, winners and deadlines, click here .

Covering the bases on the Atlanta Braves: Chris Sale, Jesse Chavez and trade targets

Sean Murphy blasted a homer 449 feet during a rehab assignment that may have served as a warning shot for the rest of the league. The Atlanta Braves are 27-18 despite an offense that’s all jabs, no haymakers. What’s going to happen when the power flips back on? Let’s explore in this Braves briefing, where The Athletic’s  national reporters and columnists weigh in on Atlanta’s path ahead.

Power rankings: Atlanta Braves are No. 5

For this week’s Power Rankings , we picked each team’s most impactful prospect who could debut this season. While we generally avoided prospects who’ve already reached the majors, a few standouts were included.

Record: 27-17 (as of Tuesday am) Last Power Ranking: 2

Prospect to watch:  RHP  Hurston Waldrep

Atlanta ’s starting rotation contains a  Spencer Strider-sized hole . (Extra points if anyone can fill the mustache.)  Bryce Elder  has struggled in the majors. Neither  Dylan Dodd  nor  AJ Smith-Shawver  has wowed observers in the minors. So maybe Waldrep, a first-round pick in 2023, can make a big jump from his current perch in Double-A Mississippi. He possesses a nasty splitter, which aids a fastball featuring excellent velocity but so-so movement. The splitter might be enough to merit a big-league audition unless the Braves attempt to fill that Strider-sized hole at the trade deadline. — Andy McCullough

The latest hits

ICYMI, our national writers weighed in with what they are hearing and seeing

1. The tour guide

In Tyler Kepner’s weekly Sliders column, he detailed a Braves reliever who seems well-qualified to serve as stadium docent.

Jesse Chavez seemed unlikely to ever set foot in a major-league clubhouse, let alone dozens of them. Chavez, who turns 41 in August, entered pro ball as a 42nd-round draft choice of the  Texas Rangers  in 2002 — and he’s still here, relieving for the  Atlanta Braves .

all star tour citi field

As the oldest player in the National League, Jesse Chavez had a fitting response when asked recently to name his favorite MLB clubhouse: “Any one with a nap room,” he said, laughing by his locker at Citi Field. Chavez travels with hip-high recovery boots for his legs, and when he puts them on, he figures, why not doze off?

In his waking hours, though, Chavez is a keen observer. He’s played for nine teams (including three separate tours with Atlanta) and pitched in 34 ballparks, retaining vivid memories of each clubhouse.

Some are close to the action, like in Milwaukee, where the clubhouse door opens directly to the dugout. Others are distant, like the old Metrodome in Minneapolis, with 33 stairs and a hallway separating the clubhouse and dugout. Some offer cheesesteaks (Philadelphia), others offer haircuts (Miami) — and some (like Anaheim, Chavez says) need an overhaul.

Here’s a five-stop, behind-the-scenes tour from an  enduring right-hander :

Wrigley Field, Chicago : “That’s a maze. You don’t want to forget something up there. And you’ve got to watch your head, too. I got a blown save there once — it stinks that you can get a blown save when you get an out, giving up somebody else’s run — but I had one, and I was (upset). I was going up the tunnel to go get mad in the clubhouse, and boom — I stovepiped my head. Hit it pretty bad and turned right back around, like, ‘Can’t be mad no more.’”

Comerica Park, Detroit : “When I got hit on the shin last year, it was in Detroit. That was the worst — oof. I couldn’t put any pressure on my leg, and it ended up being a microfracture. They have a lot of stairs there, and the (chair lift) didn’t work, so (coach) Sal Fasano had to carry me up. I’m 180. He could carry me up there with one arm. Maybe one finger.”

Nationals Park, Washington : “In the lunchroom, they have these old photos. We actually take all the young kids on the team in there and try to guess each one. They’ve got a little lounge area, a TV room with a couch, it’s nice. They’ve got good memorabilia in there too, but they took a lot of it out when people started taking things.”

Progressive Field, Cleveland : “We play Golden Tee all the time at home, and in Cleveland they have all those games. If you want, they have a full book of Nintendo and Super Nintendo games. You can buy the consoles from (the clubhouse manager) and he’ll bring the games to you the next day.”

Oracle Park, San Francisco : “ Luis Gonzalez  once put a golf ball in the chili pot, just to see if it would still be there on getaway day — and it was. And then I guess when they went back to play them again, sure enough, it was still in there. Now, on top of the chili pot, there’s a golf ball.”

2. Jim Bowden has the answers

Jim Bowden, a national writer for The Athletic and a former MLB Executive of the Year, fielded 20 reader questions about the trade deadline. And the Braves were a hot topic:

For an underperforming but loaded roster, in what spots do the Braves try to improve without mixing things up too much? — Matthew P. … What are the chances the Braves shake something up with their core starting nine should they continue to underperform? — Josh R.

The Braves’ biggest need is another starting pitcher. A huge hole was created when they lost Spencer Strider to  season-ending elbow surgery . They also could use one more reliever. In terms of position players, they’re good enough to win the World Series as is. There’s no chance they shake up their core starting nine, nor should they.

all star tour citi field

Other than Zach Eflin , what are some realistic starting pitcher trade options for the Braves to pursue? — Justin F.

Jesús Luzardo of the Marlins , Erick Fedde of the White Sox , JP Sears of the A’s, Tyler Anderson and Patrick Sandoval of the Angels , Jack Flaherty of the Tigers , Chris Bassitt of the Blue Jays and Luis Severino of the Mets .

3. A bygone Brave’s legendary ‘firehouse’ shot

Oddibe McDowell played for the Braves in 1989 and ’90, hitting 14 homers over 585 at-bats across two seasons. But years earlier, he belted one that left him with a tall tale to tell. Our Steve Buckley caught up with McDowell for this story about fabled homers across America . McDowell’s contribution to long-ball lore traces back to Veterans Field in Chatham, Mass., on June 26, 1984.

Former big-league outfielder Oddibe McDowell, now in his 10th season as baseball coach at McArthur High School in his native Hollywood, Fla., apologized for having only a few minutes to talk, what with practice beginning soon. But when he was asked about the home run he hit for the United States Olympic baseball team in 1984 to settle matters in an exhibition game against the Cape Cod League All-Stars, McDowell responded in a way that made it seem he wasn’t in much of a hurry anymore.

“Oh, the firehouse,” he said over the phone, laughing softly.

all star tour citi field

Yes, the firehouse. And then McDowell relayed an anecdote from a few years back about a friend who was planning a trip to Chatham, Mass., a touristy little town on the southeast tip of Cape Cod.

“I said to him, ‘Ask the people about the home run I hit to the firehouse,’” McDowell said. “I told him I played there once and caught hold of a ball and it just went a long, long ways.

Just how far of a shot was it? To assist with this story, a dream team of Cape Cod League stalwarts, including league historian Mike Richard, longtime publicist John Garner, Chatham Anglers president Steve West and field director Robby Grenier — joined by retired Chatham Fire Dept. chief Pete Connick — took part in a mission to measure the distance of McDowell’s home run. They began at home plate, continued beyond the 357 sign in right-center, and stopped at the spot where it’s believed the ball one-hopped the old firehouse. Their finding: 502 feet.

Baseball beat

Our beat writer David O’Brien picked out what you need to know

  • Catching up with how some notable prospects are doing, for better or worse.
  • Travis d’Arnaud left Friday’s game with dizziness and a head contusion .
  • In fact, Sale is untouchable , which is why he topped our four takeaways.

Did you catch this?

Last summer, when MLB announced the 2023 All-Star rosters, the Braves dominated the selections. Eight players — eight! — made the initial cut. There’s no chance of a repeat this year as the Braves’ list of All-Star candidates looks like a three-man field  of Chris Sale , Reynaldo López and Marcell Ozuna .

But Sale’s performance, in particular, looks so robust that teammate Charlie Morton suggested that the left-hander can aim for another kind of elite company. Morton thinks Sale could wind up in Cooperstown.

As O’Brien wrote:

After making just 56 starts from 2019 through 2023 and going 17-18 with a 4.16 ERA in that period, Sale is back throwing fastballs in the mid-to-upper-90 mph range, complementing a slider that’s about as devastating as any pitch in the majors.

“I mean, he’s pretty nasty,” Morton said, smiling and confirming that, yes, he meant Hall of Fame push for Sale. “You look at the body of work, and you look at how he’s throwing the ball. … He’s one of my favorite pitchers — of my generation he’s one of the guys that I’ve really looked forward to seeing throw. And to have him as a teammate is pretty cool.”

Chris Sale, Wicked 86mph Changeup. 👌 pic.twitter.com/5kRQ1ysfc5 — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) May 20, 2024

When Sale was traded to the Braves in exchange for infield prospect  Vaughn Grissom  in late December, he didn’t fret but instead switched his attention to doing all he could to prepare to help a team that’s done a lot more winning and contending in recent years than the Red Sox . He signed a two-year, $38 million extension with the Braves a week after the trade, both parties showing a commitment and the deal giving Sale a chance to focus solely on pitching and not worry about where he might be in a year.

( Buzz Album Cover — download HERE )

What eventually became Buzz , the third studio album by singer-songwriter and globally-renowned star NIKI, started with an urgent quake from the innermost core of her being. What surfaced in its wake was a collection of warm, stirring folk-rock songs, which crackle and flare like a bonfire between close confidantes. “I went through an identity crisis,” says the 25-year-old of Buzz . “It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I’m on the precipice of something about to happen.”

For NIKI, things have been happening progressively since she was a high schooler in Jakarta, Indonesia. As a student at an international academy, she cut her teeth scribbling lovesick poems in English class and performed acoustic guitar covers of American pop songs on YouTube. With a six-string in hand, and her family and classmates cheering her on from the audience, Nicole Zefanya then staked her claim to global stardom as NIKI.

And claim it she has – with over three billion streams worldwide , sold out shows on multiple continents, massive sets at festivals across the globe, front row seats at Paris Fashion Week, four songs on a Marvel film’s soundtrack, and some of the most phenomenal, confessional songs being released in 2024, NIKI has already established a veteran’s resume before the age of 25.

On Buzz , her songwriting remains as intimate as ever. In her initial sketches of songs for Buzz , NIKI took cues from other lane-paving women with confessional, honest lyricism soundtracked by guitars. “Joni Mitchell is my songwriting north star,” she says — and uncompromising feminist luminaries like Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair. To match the wandering spirit of Buzz , NIKI cultivated her own elastic approach to guitar.

To further harness this creative and personal sea change, NIKI began enlisting producers who had worked with her favorite contemporary singer-songwriters. She tapped Tyler Chester, who’d captured tracks with Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles; she also recruited Ethan Gruska, who counts Fiona Apple and Phoebe Bridgers as collaborators.

Buzz reverberates with the hard-earned wisdom of a young woman who charges dauntlessly towards her dreams — but can still spare a laugh if she stumbles.

2024 PGA Championship odds, predictions, golf picks: Tiger Woods projection by model that called the Masters

Tiger woods, an 82-time pga tour winner, is expected to be part of the 2024 pga championship field at valhalla golf club.

tiger.jpg

Tiger Woods will return to the scene of one of his many major victories when the 2024 PGA Championship gets underway at Valhalla Golf Club on Thursday. This marks the fourth time the course in Louisville, Kentucky will host a major event. Woods won the PGA Championship there in 2000 as a 24-year-old. Now a 48-year-old veteran, Woods is a 125-1 long shot in the 2024 PGA Championship odds to repeat that success. Should you back Woods to pull off a miraculous PGA Championship 2024 victory? World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 3-1 favorite in the 2024 PGA Championship field, while Rory McIlroy is 6-1 following back-to-back victories at the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo Championship.

Defending PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka is 10-1. Before locking in your 2024 PGA Championship picks or Tiger Woods props, be sure to  see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up almost $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the PGA Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 PGA Championship predictions

One major surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 25-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 2020 PGA Championship winner is finding his form in 2024 just in time to compete at Valhalla. He has three top-three finishes on the season, including a third-place at the Masters followed by a solo ninth at the RBC Heritage, which sets him up for the tough competition he will face at the PGA Championship 2024.

The 27-year-old's superior driving should help him navigate the tough terrain at Valhalla, as he ranks second across the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (78.77%). Additionally, Morikawa is 17th in putting average (1.720), 15th in putts per round (28.09) and 12th in one-putt percentage (43.97%). His past experience and current form make it easy to see why the model is high on him to finish strong at the 2024 PGA Championship.

The model has also examined where Tiger Woods finishes. The 48-year-old is playing a limited schedule at this stage of his career, primarily playing in the major tournaments. He set a Masters record with his 24th consecutive made cut in April, breaking a tie with Fred Couples and Gary Player.

However, Woods finished last among golfers who made the cut, with his 16-over 304 being the worst 72-hole total of his career. He won the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla, but he missed the cut after battling a back injury when the event returned in 2014. The 82-time PGA Tour winner can never be overlooked when he steps on the course, regardless of his current form or health issues.  The model just locked in its Tiger Woods PGA Championship picks here. .
