Very enjoyable!!

I have enjoyed Word Trip for several years but I can’t remember exactly when I started playing it. I got one of my sons to play and he liked the challenge of coming up with the words. I am giving a four star review only because I don’t like being rated myself from good to bad and back to good again at different levels. But I allow it because I am addicted to the game and the enjoyment I get when I complete the puzzle. I do need hints to different levels of the game when my brain doesn’t kick in and having the first letter of the words is the biggest help which I guess some may call cheating but I’m not competing with anyone so it’s more enjoyable that way. When my brain does kick in and I can get thru one game after another and end up completing several I feel a bit proud of myself. I think this is why I’m addicted and play almost every day. I find it better than crossword puzzles and I love word games but have not found any that I like as much as this one.

Great game but....

This is a truly fun game and I just noticed the dictionary which adds to the fun. There have been a few words that I thought were names and I wished I had found the dictionary sooner. I love getting credit for bonus words which make me work harder to find the “right” that they want you to find. However, only rated it four stars because the ads are overly frequent and obnoxiously long! I would buy the game but it’s ridiculously expensive. I will just put up with them until I tire of the game. But I will admit there hasn’t been a game that captured my interest like this one for quite some time. It is very addictive but again $50 a year is ludicrous for a game. I can put up with the ads for that price. Addendum: I’ve been playing this game since February now and got my husband on to it as well. He’s a bigger game but than I am. However, I’ve now had an ad lock up my game totally 2-3 times now which is very annoying and bothersome. I’ve been troubled the number of ads at times but aside from that they didn’t bother me. Until they lock up the game! This most recent one is the McLaren of Palm Beach ad. It’s a video that doesn’t play and I now can’t make it go away either!! So no more game! It’s infuriating to say the least. I’ve enjoyed the game but could make better use of my time if it’s going to keep locking up. What can I do?

Too frustrating

As an older adult I often look for new word games to keep the brain going, and the ad for this one seemed to have a different twist. i downloaded it, and just as with many apps before, the ad for the game is misleading because it does not play as advertised. I decided to try it anyway. Initially the game was okay, but then the ads began. Do not get me wrong...I get the ads and why they are used. You need money and it keeps the game free. We all have heard this before. But for a game that only costs a buck to clear the ads, you certainly use a lot of ads to cover that dollar. As a rule I do not pay for games unless I find it to be a classic, well designed, true to the game app. Once it is full of prizes and gimmicks, I am rarely interested. This game lost me with its ads interrupting me every other level and the prizes that constantly showed up. The ads often would not go away; just lead to yet another screen to watch and try to close. Sometimes I could not close out. I had to respond to screen to make it clear. This is not going to happen. The app is not as it was advertised, it has way too many ads to cover its cost, and it has too many gimmicks, prizes, and fluff. I just want a simple, challenging word game that plays as advertised. I can take the ads as long as they are incorporated responsibly. This one did not....so it has been deleted.

On Sunday, 4 The Record spoke with experts to help get Pittsburghers ready for a busy Fourth of July holiday travel period.

Host Kristen Powers spoke with Ian Petrulli, vice president of Holiday Travel International & Complete Travel Service, who offered some advice to travelers.

“Be patient. Be flexible. Call your travel agent,” said Petrulli.

Packing your patience seems to be good advice, based on what 4 The Record’s Ryan Recker learned from Bryan Dietz of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

“It's going to be busy,” said Dietz. “We are above our pre-pandemic levels for air travel, and a lot of that is because of some of the new routes that have started.”

Meanwhile, 4 The Record’s Elena LaQuatra spoke with Jim Garrity, director of public affairs for AAA East Central, about what people can expect if they are driving to their holiday destination.

“In general, the word is more,” said Garrity.

Garrity later added, “I think what we're seeing is now, a couple of years out of the lockdowns, the pent-up demand has let itself loose and everyone's really enjoying getting back out.”

10 Light and Airy Tops to Travel With This Summer — All Under $40 at Amazon

These shirts are the coolest, in every sense of the word.

word with trip

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

The warm weather you fantasized about all winter is here, and, suddenly, it’s a struggle finding something comfortable to wear in the heat. Forget synthetic fabrics or anything bodycon — the only way to survive sweltering temperatures is in loose and flowy clothes made of breathable materials like bamboo and linen.

Thankfully, trends like hollow-out crochet, lightweight vests, and oversize button-down shirts play in your favor. Here, we’ve rounded up 10 of our favorite airy summer tops from Amazon to get you through a balmy summer — all under $40.

Mioliknya Crochet Vest

This crochet vest gives cool streetwear vibes and can be adapted to so many styles — you can pair it with cargo pants for a utilitarian look or a flowy maxi for an ultra feminine aesthetic. It looks more like a thrift store score than an Amazon find, which is why we love it.

Zaayo Cotton Button-down Shirt

No summer wardrobe is complete without an oversize long-sleeve button-down shirt that goes with everything. Leave it open over a crop top or swimsuit for a casual beach look or throw it on with wide-leg slacks for a more polished vibe. This one is 100-percent cotton, but reviewers say it’s “ very lightweight ”and is “ cooling against the skin .”

Yousify Striped Knit Sweater Vest

You wouldn’t think the words “summer” and “sweater” go together, but this knit vest proves otherwise. The plunging neckline and low-cut armholes let the air in to cool you off. And when a hot day on vacation turns into a cool evening, add a button-down top underneath it for a fashionable and functional layering trick.

Dokotoo Color-block T-shirt

This fun, loose-fitting color-block tee is made of a stretchy knit, so it refuses to wrinkle even if you wad it up and cram it into the last empty corner of your suitcase. It comes in a variety of color combinations, putting an elevated spin on T-shirt day (who doesn’t have a T-shirt day on vacation?). “I will be wearing this shirt all summer long,” writes one reviewer .

Allimy Flowy Square-neck Tank Top

This cropped tank top feels, according to one shopper, “ nice and cooling, ” likely thanks to the boxy fit that lets air in. Featuring thick straps and a stylish square neckline, this is an ideal basic to take on vacation. It comes in nine colors, including red, hot pink, khaki, and mustard yellow.

Floerns Ruffle-sleeve Top

This sweet ruffle-sleeve blouse evokes the feeling of drinking white wine harborside with a light coastal breeze on your face. There are lots of prints to choose from, including pinstripes, hearts, and various florals. One shopper loves this shirt so much that they are going to order several more patterns..

Automet Linen Vest

Vests are it right now, and this one is primed for creative styling. Reviewers say it looks expensive and the fabric is good quality . It’s linen, so you get optimal breathability with your classy Y2K-inspired look.

Ferbia Crochet Drawstring Top

Breezy, bohemian, and on trend, this crochet top features an adjustable drawstring front and flowy sleeves fit for music festivals or the beach. The shirt is soft, lightweight, and drapes well, and one reviewer writes that it’s “literally the most gorgeous, high-end purchase I've ever bought on Amazon.”

SweatyRocks Print Button-down Shirt

A silky-soft button-down top with major safari vibes is the sartorial embodiment of summer. This fun, animal print screams vacation (and there are others adorned with beachy palm leaves, tropical flowers, and more). “It’s amazing,” says one shopper . “Even better than it looks.”

Ekouaer Silk Satin Camisole

A breathable camisole is essential for hot summer days. This one is perfect for layering but also stylish enough to wear on its own. Reviewers say it looks and feels like silk or satin , but they warn that the material does easily wrinkle .

During the June 2024 presidential debate, U.S. President Joe Biden repeated an old claim that former President Donald Trump once called fallen soldiers "suckers" and "losers." Trump, in turn,  denied saying it, accused Biden of making up the quote, and demanded an apology.

It wasn't the first time Biden had made this claim. This was tweeted from his X account in October 2023:

The former president referred to American service members as "suckers" and "losers." MAGA extremists have made it clear where they stand. pic.twitter.com/2Kj5jr4N7Z — Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) October 2, 2023

Trump and his allies have denied the accusation since it first emerged in 2020, shortly before the election between Trump and Biden. Whether performative or authentic, Trump's apparent support for soldiers in the U.S. military, both active and veteran members, has been part of his presidential campaigns.

Following a story by The Atlantic, a number of reputable news outlets reported on the alleged comments in 2020, relying entirely on anonymous sources from his administration.

However, there appeared to be no evidence of an audio or video recording of the remarks in question, nor was there any documentation, such as transcripts or presidential notes, to independently confirm or deny the alleged quotes' authenticity. Moreover, since Snopes did not witness the in-question comments firsthand, we can't say for certain whether Trump called fallen soldiers "suckers" and "losers."

We reached out to Trump's representatives to see if they had any supplemental evidence to help substantiate their denial, as well as for a response to renewed attention on the comments in 2023. We will update this story when, or if, we receive a response.

How the Accusations Emerged

Citing anonymous officials from the administration, the 2020 article by The Atlantic, titled, "Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are 'Losers' and 'Suckers'," unpacked Trump's trip to Paris in 2018 when he allegedly did not want to visit a cemetery of American war dead. The visit was cancelled.

Trump did not want to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery — which is home to the graves of Americans who fought and died in World War I — for two reasons, according to The Atlantic: He feared the rain would dishevel his hair, and "because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day." The Atlantic continued (emphasis ours):

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, "Why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers." In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as "suckers" for getting killed.

Shortly after the publication of The Atlantic report, one unnamed senior official with the U.S. Department of Defense and one senior U.S. Marine Corps officer confirmed the 2018 cemetery remarks from the above report in interviews with The Associated Press (AP). According to the AP, the official had firsthand knowledge of Trump's remarks, and the officer had been told about them.

Trump Allies Deny the Claims

The White House blamed the canceled cemetery visit on poor weather. Responding to The Atlantic's reporting, Trump said the accusation was "a disgraceful situation" by a "terrible magazine."

Trump strongly denied calling fallen soldiers "losers" and "suckers." Speaking to reporters on Sept. 3, 2020 , upon returning from a campaign rally to Washington, D.C., just after the report came out, Trump said: "I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more. No animal — nobody — what animal would say such a thing?"

Just days later, Zach Fuentes, a former White House aide who left the administration in early 2019 and was with the president on the Paris trip and presumably near him during the in-question conversations about the cemetery visit, stood up for Trump in an interview with Breitbart.

Referring to Gen. John Kelly, who was with Trump during the trip as his chief of staff, he said, "I did not hear POTUS call anyone losers when I told him about the weather. Honestly, do you think General Kelly would have stood by and let ANYONE call fallen Marines losers?"

Reporting on Fuentes' interview with Breitbart, The Washington Post noted that the phrase " I did not hear... " is not the same as " it didn't happen ." Furthermore, there was no evidence of Kelly being around Trump to hear the alleged comments.

Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton, who said he was on the trip, also issued a denial to Fox News , days after the article came out, saying it was "simply false."

Then-U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also denied the claims in an interview with Fox News in September 2020. He said, "I was with him for a good part of that trip, if I'm thinking about this visit and the timing right, and I never heard him use the words that are described in that article. Just, I never saw it."

How the Claims Resurfaced in 2023

On Oct. 2, 2023, Biden's official account on X resurfaced the accusation, saying Trump once allegedly "referred to American service members as 'suckers' and 'losers.'" The post (displayed above) included video footage of Biden speaking at a September 2023 event to honor the late U.S. Sen. John McCain, who was a military veteran and prisoner of war. (In that speech, Biden referenced the 2020 story by The Atlantic.)

The day after Biden's post on X, Kelly repeated the claim, as well. Speaking to CNN story, he said (emphasis, ours):

What can I add that has not already been said? A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all 'suckers' because 'there is nothing in it for them. ' A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because 'it doesn't look good for me.' A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America's defense are 'losers' and wouldn't visit their graves in France.

In other words, Kelly, who was with Trump in Paris, confirmed that Trump did call American troops "losers" and "suckers," though it was unclear whether he witnessed the comments firsthand or heard about them from someone else, or from news reports. (The 2020 Atlantic story detailed a separate incident of Trump visiting the grave of Kelly's son who was killed in action in Afghanistan, for which Kelly was supposedly present. In that case, Trump allegedly asked of military personnel who volunteered to join the service, "What was in it for them?")

Responding to the CNN interview, a Trump official issued a statement to CNN, saying , "John Kelly has totally clowned himself with these debunked stories he's made up because he didn't serve his president well while working as chief of staff."

In addition to the alleged statements about service members generally, Trump has publicly insulted McCain, in particular, by calling him "not a war hero," and "I like people who weren't captured," according to footage on C-SPAN. Also, for The Atlantic story, anonymous sources said he called former President George H.W. Bush a "loser" for getting shot down by the Japanese while a Navy pilot during World War II.

In sum, the claim stemmed from a story by The Atlantic, which relied on anonymous, second-hand reports of Trump's alleged words; there was no independent footage or documented proof to substantiate the in-question comments; and Trump vehemently denies that he once called service members "losers" and "suckers." While it was certainly possible that he said those things, Snopes was unable to independently verify the claim.

First U.S. presidential debate sees Biden trip over words while Trump deflects on key questions

word with trip

President Joe Biden went into Thursday’s debate with Donald Trump hoping to energize his campaign, which has so far failed to motivate many of the voters who carried him to office four years ago.

Instead, the presumptive Democratic nominee put his re-election bid in its gravest peril yet with a halting, doddery performance, delivered in a quiet, coughing, raspy voice.

Mr. Biden tripped over his words, had difficulty finishing sentences and frequently could not articulate his campaign pledges. Only when he lobbed insults at his Republican rival did the President seem to come alive.

While Mr. Biden has struggled with public speaking for decades, Mr. Trump has seized on such problems to suggest Mr. Biden is suffering from age-related cognitive decline. On the debate stage in Atlanta, there was little trace of the energy the President brought to his State of the Union address earlier this year and ample fodder for Mr. Trump’s attacks.

The former president, meanwhile, delivered a vintage performance, rhyming off a string of falsehoods on abortion and trade, disparaging undocumented immigrants as dangerous criminals, pushing conspiracy theories and showing no contrition either for trying to overturn the past election or for his recent criminal conviction.

It was an unprecedented tilt, both for coming amid Mr. Trump’s multiple criminal prosecutions – the first for a former U.S. president – and for using an unusually restrained format at the insistence of Mr. Biden.

Mr. Biden’s stumbles and insults

If Mr. Biden had hoped to put to rest age-related questions – he is 81 and Mr. Trump is 78 – he struggled mightily. While advocating for wealth redistribution, he appeared to forget one of the programs he was promising and instead mistakenly said “if we finally beat Medicare.” Mr. Trump fired back: “he did beat Medicare, he beat it to death.”

At another point, Mr. Biden trailed off during an answer on immigration and Mr. Trump responded: “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows either.”

While the President was for the most part able to rhyme off numerous facts, figures and economic statistics, displaying a much firmer grasp of policy details than his opponent, his clearest moments came when he simply started insulting Mr. Trump.

“You’re the sucker, you’re the loser,” Mr. Biden told Mr. Trump, in reference to comments Mr. Trump once reportedly made about dead U.S. soldiers while visiting a cemetery. At another moment, Mr. Biden shook his head and said “every single thing he said is a lie” in relation to an answer by Mr. Trump.

Can an octogenarian rule the USA?

Can either of the two oldest presidential candidates in U.S. history muster the physical or cognitive energy to rule the world’s pre-eminent superpower? It is among the most pressing questions of the current U.S. election – one both candidates sought to answer in sports achievement, in substance and in style.

Asked about his capacity to govern at 82, his age at the end of the next presidential term if he wins, Mr. Trump responded by describing cognitive tests he has undergone – and by boasting about his golf record. “I think I’m in very good shape,” he said, suggesting that he may even have lost a few pounds. He then took a golf-related jab at Mr. Biden.

“He can’t hit a ball 50 yards,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Biden responded by saying that, as vice-president, he had brought his golf handicap down to a six.

“That’s the biggest lie,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Biden, in turn, answered that he had a handicap of eight – a different number, which he made no attempt to explain.

Mr. Biden attempted to mock Mr. Trump’s claims about the former president’s height and weight, but in a sentence that mixed numbers and struggled for grammatical clarity.

That response only served to underscore a debate performance in which Mr. Biden frequently struggled to complete sentences; mixed thoughts in ways that were not always clear to the listener; and uttered some words in a hoarse mumble that rendered them indecipherable.

Mr. Trump, by contrast, spoke with a sustained vitality and clarity. The ripostes about golf even offered him an unusual moment to assert maturity, as he ended the exchange with an exhortation: “Let’s not act like children.”

President Joe Biden delivered a shaky, halting performance while his Republican rival Donald Trump battered him with a series of often false attacks at their debate on June 27, as the two oldest presidential candidates ever exchanged personal insults ahead of the November election.

Mr. Trump’s litany of falsehoods

During the first debate topic – the economy – Mr. Trump claimed that his plan to put 10-per-cent tariffs on all imports would cause countries “that have been ripping us off” to “pay us a lot of money.” This is, of course, not true: such tariffs would be paid for by U.S. consumers.

Defending his decision to appoint anti-abortion Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, Mr. Trump said “everybody wanted” federal abortion rights to be abolished. Mr. Biden, staring in seeming incredulity at Mr. Trump, appeared to speak for the solid majority of Americans who have, since the 1980s, expressed support for Roe v. Wade.

Fact-checking some of the false claims made during the Biden and Trump debate

Mr. Trump also repeatedly said that “millions of people” are coming to the U.S. from prisons and “mental institutions,” one of his most well-worn lies. Immigrants, both authorized and unauthorized, tend to commit fewer crimes than native-born Americans. And there is no evidence that countries are deliberately sending millions of criminals to the U.S. – as opposed to people simply fleeing war, poverty and political repression.

Mr. Trump dodges on Ukraine

It took moderator Dana Bash two tries to get Mr. Trump to clarify his murky position on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. When she first asked if Mr. Trump would accept Mr. Putin’s demand that Russia keep captured Ukrainian territory as a condition for peace, Mr. Trump refused to answer. Instead, he insisted – without explaining why – that had he been president, Mr. Putin would never have invaded.

On her second try, she elicited an answer. Mr. Trump said that Mr. Putin’s conditions were “not acceptable,” but then promised to reach a peace deal between the November election and the January inauguration. The former president did not explain how such a deal would be possible.

Mr. Trump also bashed the U.S.’s military support to Ukraine “every time Zelensky comes to this country” he walks away with millions, Mr. Trump said. “The money that we’re spending on this war.”

Mr. Biden fired back: “I never heard so much malarkey in my whole life.” He said Mr. Trump, during his presidency, had told Mr. Putin “do whatever you want.” He also reminded viewers that most military aid to Ukraine is actually spent in the U.S. to manufacture weapons.

The silencing of the mics

If rules can have a bias, then the terms of the debate were widely seen as tilted toward Mr. Biden. The CNN production included no live studio audience, muting the cheers that have energized Mr. Trump in previous debates. Producers silenced microphones of the candidate not speaking, barring the interjections for which Mr. Trump is famous.

But within moments of the two men taking the stage, it became clear that the great winner in those rules was not either candidate – it was an audience that could watch two men answer questions without interruption, offering each an extended period to answer, challenge each other and, occasionally, promote policies.

The rules didn’t prevent the two men from reacting to their opponents, with split-screen video allowing Mr. Trump to shake his head in disagreement, or Mr. Biden to stare in amazement at what he was hearing.

And it’s not clear that, in the end, Mr. Biden benefited: the moderators cut off the President for exceeding his allotted time more frequently than they did his opponent. Mr. Trump, meanwhile, showed an unexpected patience in delivering his critiques, defying those who said he would struggle to rein in his impulses.

“I didn’t have sex with a porn star”

Mr. Trump’s history of sex and crime is a prominent part of the backdrop to his campaign. He is the first major candidate to run for president as a convicted felon, and his opponents have sought to take advantage, with Mr. Biden accusing him of being prepared to misuse the levers of power to exact revenge if he is returned to the White House.

“The idea that you have a right to seek retribution against any American, just because you’re president, is wrong. It’s simply wrong. No president has ever spoken like that before,” Mr. Biden said.

He accused Mr. Trump of having sex with a porn star while his wife was pregnant.

“You have the morals of an alley cat,” Mr. Biden said.

Mr. Trump, whose campaign events have celebrated the legal cases against him as evidence that he is an object of persecution, sought to divert attention from his own legal travails, arguing that the real criminal is Mr. Biden.

As evidence, he raised Mr. Biden’s son, Hunter, who was recently found guilty of felony counts related to the purchase of a handgun while he was using cocaine. “I did nothing wrong,” Mr. Trump said.

He then, in a statement at odds with considerable court testimony, denied one of the most salacious accusations against him.

“I didn’t have sex with a porn star,” he said.

With an RBI and a home run in Game 3, Dylan Dreiling won Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 MCWS. Dreiling also made history as the first player to hit a home run in all three of the MCWS finals games.

The Vols went up 6-1, highlighted by Hunter Ensley's acrobatic slide to avoid Jackson Appel's tag, before the Aggies scored four straight runs in the final two innings to cut the deficit to one. Tennessee closer Aaron Combs finished the job, striking out Ted Burton for the Tennessee victory.
