Tajpur beach stands between Shankarpur and Mandarmani, falls mostly in Purba Medinipur. As compared to other beach destinations in West Bengal, Tajpur is relatively less inhabited. Commutation is extremely feasible. If you are travelling from other parts of the country, then the nearest airport will be Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Airport. Upon arrival, you can either take a private car or bus to Tajpur. If you are travelling by train, then you have to board the train from Howrah station and get off at Ramanagar Station. From there the travel to the beach is for 15 minutes. And if you choose to take the route via car, then you have to take the Vidyasagar Setu followed by the Kona expressway. It is almost a 4 hours journey via car from Kolkata.

Then Tajpur in West Bengal is the one offbeat travel destination that may fulfil all your desires. It is located in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal that can be easily reached from Kolkata or Digha. It lies between Mandarmani and Shankarpur.

Shankarpur is actually a fishing harbour, located just 7 Km away to the west side of Tajpur. It is the place where fishing boats gather and fishermen can be seen fishing. The beach is also exquisite with casuarinas and eucalyptus trees around. It was an underrated sea beach earlier. But recently, the West Bengal State Tourism department has revolutionized the area by setting up a Biswa Bangla Park.

Digha is a little further from Shankarpur. You can easily visit Digha from Tajpur and stay there for a day to explore it. The well-known mesmerizing beaches with many attractive viewpoints like the Science Centre, and Marine Aquarium, make it more attractive.

How to reach Tajpur?

Tajpur is very well-connected from all parts of India. The bus and train routes are the best options to reach there.

Nearest Railway Station to Tajpur

The closest railway station to Tajpur is Ramnagar which is just one station away from the Digha Railway Station. 2 trains regularly run between Howrah and Ramnagar- Tamralipta Express and Kandari Express .

Once you have reached Ramnagar, there is a variety of options available to reach Tajpur. Toto, Trekkers, and Cabs are easily available nearby Ramnagar railway station.

Kolkata to Tajpur by Bus

If you like to visit Tajpur by bus, then you can avail yourself of the AC Bus service available from different parts of Kolkata. The best starting point for such a bus journey is from Esplanade Bus Stand. It takes almost four to five hours to reach Tajpur from Kolkata.

Digha to Tajpur Distance

If your itinerary is to reach Tajpur from Digha, then you have many options to avail of a bus service. Situated just 18 Km away from Digha, Tajpur can be reached within 40-50 minutes by bus or car. As this is a short distance journey, I recommend getting the bus service. So, pack your clothes and essential goods in the bag and catch up on a ride to Tajpur.

1. Abasar Resort

The greatest advantage of this hotel is its amazing location. From the accommodation facility, you can reach the sea beach by 2 minute’s walk on a path that passes through the cashew plantation within its area. It is very close to the beach.

This resort is surrounded by many trees with greenery and the chirping of birds all around. It has a very well-decorated garden with a beautiful seating arrangement. The rooms of the hotel are neat and clean. The hotel has its own restaurant, and it offers fresh and delicious food items for lunch, dinner, and snacks. Fish fry is a must-try item.

2. Tajpur Nature Camp

The sea beach is just 1 min walking distance from Tajpur Nature Camp. The small cottages with greenery all around make this place very attractive. The rooms of the hotel are clean and furnished. Staffs are well-behaved and cooperative. The food that is served tastes too good. This hotel can be a good choice for you if you love to stay close to nature.

These two hotels provide the closest accommodation nearby the sea beach with the best service. Apart from these, there are also a few other excellent hotels in Tajpur from which the sea beach is 5-10 minutes away. But these hotels are luxurious and some of them have swimming pools too.

3. Lake View Village Resort

Though the hotel is some distance away from Tajpur beach, the ambience of the resort is impressive. The resort covers a vast area that is maintained well.

The hotel has special bamboo cottages are located facing a beautiful water body/ Lake. Here, one can enjoy boating in the lake too. Birdwatchers may like this place as ducks, pigeons, and many other species of bird roams around.

One very important advantage of this resort is it is pet-friendly. If you have a dog in your home, you can stay here together with prior permission from the hotel management.

Best time to visit Tajpur

Throughout the year, you can visit Tajpur. But, during summer high temperature is high and it is hard to roam around the beach. The month of March to July should be avoidable. In the rainy season, you can get the beauty of the sea but it can be difficult in case of heavy rainfall. The Winter season is the best time to visit Tajpur. A lot of time can be spent on the beach in pleasant weather during Oct-Feb.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tajpur

Tajpur is well connected by road and train routes as well. There are several buses available from Esplanade Bus Stand that go to Digha via Balisai. From Balisai, you need to hire a Toto or Trekker. In the case of the train, reach Ramnagar railway station from Howrah. There are many modes of transport available to reach Tajpur from there.

Both places are fascinating. However, in Mandarmani, the hotels are exactly by the sea beach where you can spend some quality time even during the night. On the other hand, all the hotels at Tajpur are located at least 2 minutes of walking distance from the beach. But if you are looking for a better view of the sea beach, Tajpur is far better.

Tajpur is located just 18 Km away from Digha. To reach there by bus, it will take around 40 to 50 minutes.

To reach Ramnagar railway station, you need to book a Toto or Trekker from Tajpur. We advise booking it in advance, as the availability of such transport is not widely available.

Tajpur is worth visiting if you love sea beaches. It is a great weekend destination from Kolkata at a distance of 170 Km.

After the sunset, the beach becomes silent and lonely. So it is best to leave the beach before it gets dark. There is no security guard on the beach, so be careful about your own security. Apart from it, auto rickshaws and Totos are not regularly available. So it is better to book the cab in advance.

Tajpur is a wonderful place where you can spend some memorable moments with your loved one. This sea beach in West Bengal will never disappoint you. As an alternative to Tajpur, you can also visit Henry Island near Bakkhali to spend a couple of days.

Kolkata to Tajpur: Different Ways To Go

Tajpur, one of the secluded and serene beaches in West Bengal is becoming popular in recent times. The place is well-connected to Kolkata by both rail and road. If you wish to spend a leisurely weekend in close proximity to the sea-waves, the major ways that lead to this place are:

Kolkata to Tajpur: Through Train:

There is no rail-station at Tajpur itself.

The nearest two major rail-stations are Kanthi P H and Digha Flag Station. From Kanthi P H, auto-rickshaw can be hired to reach the place. From Digha, the distance is 18 km and it takes around 1 hour to reach by a hired car.

Kolkata to Tajpur: Through Road:

If you wish to enjoy a long drive on the weekend, you can take the car and drive to Tajpur easily via NH16 and NH116B, as the road condition is mostly great.

The 1 st  Route covers 173 km and it passes through Kolaghat. Total time taken in this route is around 4 hours and 15 minutes, depending on the traffic.

The 2 nd route is 152 km but it takes around 5 hour and 30 minutes as this route passes by Falta, Gadiara and joins the 1 st route near Nandakumar, after Mahishadal. If you are planning for a leisurely trip, you can opt for route 2 as it covers a number of important spots. On the other hand, if you cannot wait to reach the place and see the sea, try route 1 as it is faster and has less traffic, with good food options on the way.

Jamshedpur to Tajpur: Different Ways To Go

Tajpur, the most famous hill station of West Bengal is approximately 250 km away from Jamshedpur, the most populous urban setup in the state of Jharkhand. There are several ways to reach from the banks of Subarnarekha to the sea beach, which are as follows:

Jamshedpur to Tajpur: Through Train:

There is no major rail-station in Tajpur with direct rail connectivity with Jamshedpur.

You can take a train from the nearby major rail station Tata Nagar to Kharagpur, from there, take another train to Panskura Jn. From Panskura, you will have a number of trains reaching to Kanthi P H and Digha Flag Station, the nearest rail stations of Tajpur.

Jamshedpur to Tajpur: Through Road:

If you want a personalised experience, or, have your own car and want to enjoy the thrill of the road trip, you may drive to Tajpur which takes around 7 hours to reach on a good traffic day. The roads comprise of NH18 and State highway 5.

1 st Route passes through Kumardubi and Gopiballabhpur and takes around 6 and a half hour to cover 245 km.  2 nd  Route  branches out from Route 1 after Dhalbhumgarh and passes by Kharagpur and Jhargram, which is 258 km and takes 6 hours 41 minutes. 3 rd Route connects route 1 and 2. It goes out from Route 1 at Kharikamathani, crosses Subarnarekha and joins with Route 2 before Belda to reach Tajpur at 6 hours 38 minutes (252 Km).

The beach in Tajpur is famous as one of the virgin beaches near Kolkata. It is a yellow-sand beach, which is not affected by the pollution that comes with a heavy tourist rush. Tajpur beach is well-known for its red crab population. Even in the daytime and late afternoon, you can see thousands of red crabs coming out of their hidey-hole and running across the sandy beach. How to reach Hollong Tourist Lodge

The only way to reach Hollong Tourist Lodge is by car. You can book a cab from or at your convenience. As the property is situated deep inside the forest, two-wheelers and other public transport are not allowed.

You can also take your own car to reach the property. Parking is available at the property.

There are several things you can do while at the Hollong Bungalow. Here are a few of them:

• While there at the lodge, admire the wilderness and fall in love with the refreshing nature.
• There is a salt pit just outside the lodge where the forest officials place salt to attract gaurs, elephants, one-horned rhinos, Indian Bisons, and many other wild animals. This is worth a watch when the animals visit the spot.
• Elephant safari of the stunning Jaldapara National Park is a must and the forest department operates an elephant safari from the Hollong Lodge itself. The guests staying at the lodge are prioritized first for this activity.
• Wildlife photography from close can not be missed if you are staying at the Hollong Tourist Resort.
• Being amidst the national park is also an advantage for all the bird watchers as you will be able to spot the Bengal Florican along with many other exotic birds. Some of the other Aves include Pallas’s fish eagle, lesser pied hornbill, partridge, etc.
• Among all the other wild creatures, the reptiles are fascinating as well. There are Cobras, Pythons, kraits, geckos, and monitor lizards.

About WBFDCL

The West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited (WBFDCL) came into existence in 1974 as per Companies Act 1956, on the recommendation of National Commission of Agriculture. Thereafter, inception of Indian Forest Conservation Act and Hon. The West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited (WBFDCL) came into existence in 1974 on the recommendation of National Commission of Agriculture in their Interim Report in 1972 on "Production Forestry - Man-Made Forests". Having been registered as a Company and incorporated as per Companies Act, 1956; the Corporation started functioning on 19th November, 1974. In course of time, the Corporation has diversified its activities into eco - tourism, wood - based industries, NTFP Management, plantations of economically valuable species, etc and expanded its operations almost all over West Bengal.

Murti Dooars

Murti named after a meandering river stream is a scenic river valley of Dooars. It is famous for its surreal vista of lofty mountains and tranquil ambience. Endowed with surreal natural beauty Murti is located within the verdant forest of Gorumara National Park. Initially famous as a picnicking spot in Dooars, Murti later caught the attention of travellers after WBTDC built a Forest Lodge in the vicinity of River Murti. Murti with its unique location, act as a base for many travellers who want to explore the dense forest of Gorumara and Chapramari Forest in Dooars.

Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary

Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary situated 6km from Murti is another favoured sightseeing destination for tourist lodging in the WBTDC Forest Resort of Murti. Famous for its large population of Wild Elephant Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is also renowned for its watchtower which is situated in the vicinity of River Murti. Formed in 1998 Chapramari is also the oldest wildlife sanctuary of this region.

Located 23km from Moorti Tourism Property is Samsing an offbeat destination of Dooars. Enclosed with luxuriant tea gardens, Samsing is known for its traditional plantation method of cardamom and orange. Samsing also acts as a base for the travellers who wish to traverse the virgin forest of Neora Valley National Park. There are several trekking routes towards Neora Valley which originates from Samsing.

How to Reach Moorti Tourism Property

The closest railway station to Murti is New Mal Junction. The distance between New Mal Junction to Murti is 17km. But it is best if visitors choose to board a train for New Jalpaiguri Station to reach Murti. Since compared to New Mal Junction, NJP is well connected with major cities. The distance between NJP to Murti is 66km. From the respective junction, visitors can hire a taxi to reach Murti Tourist Lodge.
