Dubai: If you are an expatriate living in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country and are interested in travelling to Bahrain, you have two visa options – a 14-day visa on arrival or an eVisa, which can range from a single entry permit issued for two weeks to a one-year multiple entry visa, which allows you to stay in country for up to 90 days.

Here are all the details.

1. Bahrain visa on arrival for GCC residents – 14-day stay

UAE residents of skilled professions are eligible for a visa on arrival and can stay in the country for up to two weeks on a single entry permit, according to Bahrain’s Nationality, Passports and Residency Affairs (NPRA).

5 Conditions for Bahrain visa on arrival

To be eligible for visa on arrival, GCC residents need to make sure they fulfil the following conditions:

1. The UAE or GCC residency permit must be valid for at least six months. 2. The passport must have a validity of at least six months. 3. The applicant must work in a skilled profession. 4. You must have a return ticket. 5. You must show a proof of accommodation. 6. If requested, the passport officer at the visa counter, may also ask you for a bank statement.

For UAE residents, with the Emirates ID replacing the visa sticker on your passport, you can still download a digital copy of your residence permit for free, by following these steps .

The visa is issued upon arrival at any entry point for Bahrain. If you fulfill all the conditions listed above, you will be able to have to pay the visa fee to the passport control officer, and a receipt is issued.

2. Bahrain eVisa for GCC residents

Apart from the visa on arrival, you can also apply for a Bahrain visit visa online, through the country’s official visa services platform – evisa.gov.bh .

According to NPRA, after the visa issued, you have up to three months from the date of issue to enter Bahrain using the visa.

Required documents for the Bahrain eVisa for GCC residents

When you are applying for the visa online, you must upload the following documents:

• Copy of your valid passport, with at least six months validity. • Copy of your UAE residence permit , with at least six months validity. • Copy of a valid, confirmed return air ticket. • Copy of hotel booking. If you are staying with a friend or relative, provide their passport and resident ID copy.

A. Two-week single entry visit visa for GCC residents

• BD4 (Dh38.97) - application fee, which you will have to pay upon submitting the application. This fee is non-refundable. • BD5 (Dh48.72) - visa fee, which you will have to pay once the application is approved. Total - BD9 (Dh87.69) .

Once the visa application is approved, you have to pay the visa fee within a month. If you fail to do so, your visa application will be cancelled.

B. Three-month, multiple entry visit visa for GCC residents

While this is a multiple entry visa, which can be used over a period of three months, the length of stay in Bahrain can be a maximum of one month per visit.

• BD4 (Dh38.97) – application fee, which you will have to pay upon submitting the application. This fee is non-refundable. • BD12 (Dh116.92) – visa fee, which you will have to pay once the application is approved. Total – BD16 (Dh155.89) .

C. One-year multiple entry visit visa for GCC residents

Duration: The visa is valid for one year and you can stay in Bahrain for up to 90 days per visit.

• BD4 (Dh38.97) – application fee • BD40 (Dh389.73) – visa fee.

Total fee – BD44 (Dh428.70) .

How GCC residents can apply for Bahrain eVisas

• Visit the official website - www.evisa.gov.bh • Next, go to ‘Visa Services’ on the menu tab, and select ‘Apply for Visas’. • Select if you are a GCC resident, and select the country of residence. • Enter your nationality and purpose of visit as ‘Tourism’. • Next, you will see the list of visas you are eligible for. Click on the visa you prefer and click ‘Apply Now’. • Fill in the online application with your personal, passport and address details and attach the required documents, which will be stated in the application. • Once that is done, pay for the application fee online with your credit or debit card. • You will then receive an application number to track the status of visa. • Once the visa is approved, you will receive a notification on your email. You must then pay the visa fee within one month. • Once the payment is complete, you will receive the digital visa via email.

You must take a printout of the eVisa, because you will required to present it to a passport control officer, along with your valid passport and UAE residence permit.

How long is the visa approval process?

2 Weeks Single Entry is subject to the following terms and conditions.

Service Request Channel:

• Exclusively through the E-service channel .

Terms of Service Required:

• Applicant must apply for the visa while residing outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Applicant must possess a valid resident permit of a GCC country for a minimum of 3 months.
• The resident permit for a GCC country must remain valid for at least another 3 months.
• Applicants holding laborer occupations with GCC resident permits are ineligible.
• Visa issuance and payment are conducted online.

Validity Conditions:

• If the visa expires before entry to the Kingdom of Bahrain, a new application and fee payment are required.

Entry Conditions:

• Applicant is prohibited from engaging in any paid or unpaid employment during their stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Passport must have a minimum validity of six months.

Stay Conditions:

• Duration of stay permitted is 2 weeks.
• The visa grants a single entry.

Extension Conditions:

• Extensions, if needed, can be processed at the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs office (NPRA) or online.

Procedures:

• Submit application through the designated service channel.
• Pay applicable fees and obtain your application number.

Required Documents:

• Copy of applicant’s passport (Family Page and any additional information page).
• Copy of GCC residence permit valid for 3 months.
• Copy of confirmed return air ticket.

Refund Policy:

• Payment of the application fee does not guarantee visa approval.
• Application fee and visa fee are non-refundable once the application is approved or cancelled at the applicant’s request.
• Processing fee will not be refunded if the application is not approved, but visa fee may be refunded under certain circumstances upon applicant’s request.
• Refund processing takes a minimum of 45 days from the date of refund request.

Conditions for Visit Visa to Bahrain (GCC Resident) – 2 Weeks Single Entry (Visa on Arrival)

2 Weeks Single Entry (on arrival) is granted under the following terms and conditions.

• Visa issuance is available upon arrival at any entry point.

Required Terms of Service:

• The visa is granted upon arrival at any entry point into the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Applicant must hold a valid resident permit of a GCC country for a minimum of 3 months.
• The resident permit for a GCC country must be valid for at least another 3 months.
• Applicant must refrain from engaging in any paid or unpaid employment during their visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Visa fee is paid to the Passport Officer upon arrival in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and a receipt is issued upon payment.
• Passport validity must cover the duration of stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain or the length of the visa, whichever is longer. Failure to meet this requirement may result in denial of entry.
• Upon request by the Passport Officer, the visitor must demonstrate the ability to support themselves and dependents during their stay.
• Upon request by the Passport Officer, the visitor must provide proof of accommodation.
• The visa permits a single entry and is valid for a stay of 2 weeks.
• Extensions, if applicable, can be processed at the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs office (NPRA) or online.
• Apply upon arrival.
• Pay the fees and obtain your visit visa.

Process for obtaining an Online Visa of Bahrain

Before applying for a Visa, ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria by thoroughly reviewing the conditions and confirming compliance with all requirements. If you qualify, follow these steps:

• Navigate to the homepage and click on the “ Apply for Visa ” link. Fill out the eligibility page and proceed to the next step.
• On the following page, review the available Visa types and their respective conditions. Select the desired Visa type and click “Apply now”.
• Complete the online application form and proceed to the next steps.
• Attach the required documents. If paying for multiple applications using the same credit card, utilize the “Submit another application” button and repeat the process as necessary.

Bahrain offers both e-visas and visa on arrival to travellers , and the visa type you need depends on your nationality. According to Bahrain’s e-visa website, 209 countries are eligible for visa-on-arrival, and GCC residents are able to acquire a two-week single entry or three-month multiple visa on arrival.

Europe:  Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Falkland Islands, Finland, France, French Guyana, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Asia:  Brunei, China, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand.

America:  Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Oceania:  Australia and New Zealand.

Travellers looking to apply for a visa on arrival will need a passport valid for at least six months from arrival into Bahrain, return airline tickets, proof of accommodation and in some cases, three months of bank statements with a balance of no less than USD 800 (BHD300).

Those looking for other forms of visas will need to use the country’s e-visa platform, which offers two-week single entry, one-month multiple entry, three-month multiple entry and one-year multiple entry visas. All visas have their own requirements, so checking the official Bahrain visa portal is imperative.

Bahrain e-visas

Citizens from 114 countries can obtain an e-visa before entering the Kingdom of Bahrain, which can be applied for on the official website . Both general visit visas (for tourism, business meetings and family visits) and investment visas are available. Requirements differ per visa, but a flight return ticket, photocopy or photo of your passport, photo page and copy of hotel booking or proof of accommodation are generally needed for e-visas. UAE visa on arrival

If you are a passport holder of the below country or territory, no advance visa arrangements are required to visit the UAE. Simply disembark your flight at Dubai International and proceed to immigration, where your passport will be stamped with a 30-day visit visa free of charge.

90-day visit eligibility

If you are a passport holder of one of the below countries or territories, your passport will be stamped with a multiple entry 90-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 90 days in total. Citizens of the below European countries are also entitled to apply for a pre-arranged visit visa if their 90-day visa on arrival has been fully utilized.

180-day visit eligibility

If you hold a Mexican passport you’re eligible for a multiple entry 180-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 180 days in total.

Dubai immigration procedures

As an added security measure, Immigration Authorities at Dubai International are now conducting random eye screening for visitors to Dubai.

Visitors asked to proceed for eye screening are required to present a hard copy of their visa or a printed version of the visa number confirmation page at the screening counter. If you do not have a copy with you, a charge of AED 30 per copy applies - payable only in AED.

Important information

Before you travel to the UAE, please check your visa requirements and make sure you have a valid visa if needed, or if your passport needs to be valid for 6 months. Holders of non-standard passports and travel documents may also have different entry requirements: find out if you need to apply for a visa and other passport requirements.

As of 29 April 2016, GCC residence permit holders will need to apply for a UAE visa before arriving in Dubai.

New visit entry permit to the UAE for Indian nationals

From 7 January 2024, eligible Indian nationals with a normal passport valid for a minimum of six months can obtain a single entry, 14-day visa on arrival. A fee of USD 63 applies.

• Indian passport holder with USA green card valid for a minimum of six months
• Indian passport holder with UK residence card valid for a minimum of six months

Rules and conditions

• Sponsor or applicant will be responsible for a visitor overstay and overstay fines.
• A Refundable deposit of AED 1000 for friend. Sponsor must claim the deposit within a maximum of 2 years from the application submission date.
• Refund of visa fee before processing of an application, AED 50 will be deducted on refund process.
• Visa fees must be paid upon application.
• Additional visa processing fees may apply.
• Visa fees are non-refundable.
• The ticket is non-refundable if the visa has been issued and utilized.
• Visa processing time is approximately 3 to 4 working days.
• Entry into the UAE is subject to immigration approval.
• All visas are valid to enter Dubai for 60 days from the date of issue, except the 96-hour and 48-hour visas, which are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

• 48-hour and 96-hour transit visas are valid for travel with Emirates tickets outbound from Dubai. You can only apply for a transit visa online or at the Emirates Commercial Visa APT office at Dubai International airport Terminal 3.

If you are travelling to or stopping over in Dubai with Emirates, you can submit an application and receive your UAE visa entirely online – without having to submit your passport for stamping. The online visa application service is available for residents and nationals of many countries around the world. Find out if you can apply for a UAE visa. Applicants' passports must have at least six months' validity as of their date of travel to Dubai, and must be machine readable passports – handwritten passports are not accepted.

This service is only available to passengers with a confirmed Emirates booking where an Emirates ticket has already been issued and the flight itinerary already includes the desired time in Dubai. The itinerary into and out of Dubai should be on one ticket (PNR), and these flights must be Emirates flights. Note that any itineraries including any flights to or from Dubai on other carriers are not eligible for the online visa service.

A minimum of four international working days prior to arrival in Dubai is required, however Emirates does recommend that online applications are made as early as possible.

A Multi-Nation Visa Will Roll Out In The Middle East This Year

The Gulf countries’ Schengen-like visa is coming by the end of 2024. The region’s tourism leaders say it will be a game-changer for Middle East travel.

T he head of Saudi Arabian tourism wants Taylor Swift to bring her tour to the Middle East. Of course he does; Swift’s Eras tour has a proven track record of boosting economies wherever it goes.

But attracting major events like a Swift tour will require regional cooperation, Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, said on Monday at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM). “I f we want to get the Taylor Swifts of the world, we can collaborate, with a view to an ‘Arabian tour’ ,” he told attendees.

Hamidaddin was touting the rollout of the region’s upcoming “unified GCC visa,” a travel permit similar to Europe’s Schengen visa that will allow more than 30 consecutive days of inter-country travel throughout the six Gulf Cooperation Council member nations: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman. While no date has been announced, officials say the visa is expected to launch by the end of 2024.

“In a significant move aimed at simplifying travel logistics and fostering tourism, the Gulf Cooperation Council has given the green light to a unified tourist visa that will allow travelers to visit all six countries,” said Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE’s economy minister, noting plans to incorporate month-long “grand packages” in the marketing mix.

The visa is expected to be a boon for the region’s cruise industry, since cruise passengers will no longer have to apply for visas for each port of call. “I happen to also sit on the board of Cruise Saudi, and we are investing big on cruise ships as well as ports and cruise terminals,” Hamidaddin said. “We can easily see a big shift from Med to Red.”

It’s difficult to overstate the Middle East’s tourism ambitions or the speed at which the region has become a power player in the global travel arena. Consider the rise of Dubai, a city-state in the United Arab Emirates that’s roughly the size of Jacksonville, Florida, which now has more hotel rooms than Las Vegas.

Saudi Arabia, closed off to leisure tourists until just five years ago, is now awash with a staggering $800 billion in tourism investment . In February, the kingdom hit a major milestone, having attracted 100 million tourist visits seven years ahead of schedule.

Last year was a record-breaker for tourist arrivals in Qatar—a feat considering that the tiny nation had just hosted the FIFA World Cup the previous year, an event that, by the way, left a handful of stadiums ideal for giant concerts.

The tourism ministers of GCC members hope to the unified visa will both streamline travel red tape and encourage travelers to stay longer and travel wider while in the Gulf region, thus boosting their respective and collective economies.

The Bahrain e-Visa is valid for 30 days after arrival and you can stay in the country a maximum of 30 days Per Entry .

After your visa is approved, you need to use it during the first 30 days, or it will expire. The validity of this visa will be recognized when you enter the country.

With this visa, you can visit family and do tourist and business activities.

You can’t do remunerated activities (work) during your visit to Bahrain.

Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months, starting from the day you arrive in Bahrain to apply.

Applicants must be outside the Kingdom of Bahrain when applying for this visa.

If you are a citizen of the Golf Cooperation Council (Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates) you won’t need this visa to visit Bahrain.

How long is the Bahrain Tourist eVisa valid?

We offer two types of Bahrain Visas:

Multiple-Entry Visa , valid for 30 days after arrival and allows you to stay for a maximum of 30 days Per Entry in Bahrain.

Bahrain Tourist eVisa requirements and documents

To start the online application process for the Bahrain Tourist Visa, you need to provide the following documents and information:

Your valid passport. Make sure the validity period is for at least 6 months, starting from the day you arrive in Bahrain. It also needs to have at least one blank page.

Copy of the photo page of your valid passport. Additionally, if you have an Indian passport, you will need a copy of its last page.

Copy of your return flight ticket.

Please note, depending on your nationality, you may also have to provide the following supporting documents for your Bahrain Visa application:

Copy of your hotel booking confirmation or a copy of a relative's Central Population Registry printout. The dates in this document must match the travel dates selected during the application process.

Copies of stamped bank statements in the traveler's name from the past three months, with an end balance of not less than US$1000.

Copy of a valid GCC residence permit that’s still valid for at least three months.

GCC Unified Visa Named 'GCC Grand Tours' to Launch This Year

A new unified tourism visa for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, named "GCC Grand Tours," is set to launch later this year. The visa will allow travelers to visit all six GCC countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, under one visa.

Facilitating Travel in the GCC

The visa aims to make travel across the GCC region easier and more affordable, increasing tourism throughout the region. Tourists using the visa will be able to spend more than 30 days exploring multiple destinations within the six countries.

The much-awaited unified GCC tourist visa will boost ‘bleisure’ (business-leisure) travel in the region, as visitors will increasingly mix the two to extend their trips to explore the neighbouring countries.

As reported by Khaleej Times on Monday, the Gulf countries will put in place the system to launch the single tourist visa by the end of the year, which will enable the rollout of the GCC unified visa and allow visitors to explore all the six countries on a single visa, similar to Schengen countries.

In addition, more attractions and ease of visas by the GCC countries are luring new tourists while the growing importance of regional cities as a business and tourist destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) are also bringing in a new set to business travellers to the UAE region. Hence, demand for the hospitality, travel and tourism sector is growing.

Rikant Pitti, the co-founder of EaseMyTrip.com, said the unified GCC tourist visa will give a substantial boost to ‘bleisure’ travel from India to the UAE and wider region.

Travellers coming from India to the UAE are extending their stays in the Emirates for a few days to make the most of their trips and this trend will pick up with the introduction of the visa.

“There is a huge trend in India where people from the corporate side to UAE come with their families. They want to mix their business and leisure together and hang out for a few more days to explore multiple destinations as both Dubai and Abu Dhabi have a lot to offer,” he said.

Pittie added that the Arabian travel industry is witnessing remarkable growth, driven by factors such as technological advancements, evolving consumer preferences, and a renewed focus on sustainable travel. “We are keen to explore collaborations and initiatives that enhance travel experiences while promoting responsible tourism.”

Philip Barnes, chief executive officer of Rotana, said there is an increase in ‘bleisure’ travel as guests opt to extend their business trips to the region to explore more of what the UAE and its neighbours have to offer.

“We are in the fortunate position that we can cater to diverse travel needs with a variety of accommodation options, from serviced apartments to five-star hotels, capitalising on these market trends,” he said.

He added that as the region looks to grow its tourism offering with enhanced investments, strategies, visa procedures, and more, there is a growing trend among travellers to visit multiple countries per trip.

“With initiatives to simplify cross-border travel, the region is becoming more accessible and appealing to visitors looking to explore the region as a whole. The MICE sector also plays a pivotal role in driving demand in the UAE as it hosts major events, global concerts, and international trade exhibitions, attracting thousands of visitors,” Barnes added.

Vincent Miccolis sees a growing demand for flexible accommodation and travel amongst both business and leisure travellers in the GCC.

“Additionally, We have noted a rising trajectory in long-stay bookings from both business and leisure travellers. In Q1 2024, we saw an exceptional 28 per cent increase in long-term stays as compared to Q1 2023 across its regional properties in Dubai, Riyadh, Al Khobar and Doha. These cities also stand as essential business hubs in their respective regions, home to significant business projects and developments, attracting many business travellers who are either planning to relocate to the GCC permanently or visiting for an extended period,” he said.

Similarly, he said they witnessed a sharp increase in long-term bookings from leisure travellers during holiday periods such as Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, and school breaks. “Families are increasingly seeking spacious accommodations that offer engaging entertainment and leisure activities. The combination of the GCC’s growing business and leisure offerings have made it a prime destination for long-term stays from every segment of travellers,” he said.
