Getting out there and being amongst the trees, luxury treehouse and wildlife can cure what ails you and create memories that will last a lifetime.

If you are looking to unplug everything and reconnect with your loved ones, consider a night around a campfire. There is nothing like the warmth of the fire and stars overhead to help us reflect on the things that are most important in life. A campfire at the end of a long day is a chance to relax, tell stories, remember moments of the past, and have some great conversations. Consider roasting hot dogs over the fire or ending the night with classic s’mores.

Safari, treehouse vacation spot opens in Groesbeck

GROESBECK, Texas (KWTX) - A Dallas resident transformed a property in Groesbeck to create a safari experience where guests can unplug from daily stressors in a treehouse-inspired home.

Tucked away off a back road in Groesbeck, you’ll find Chari Ranch. As you travel down the path, you’ll see onyxes, axis, ostriches, emus and even baby kangaroos.

Guests can choose to feed animals and interact with them.

“That’s the vision, just to build something that nature, humans can coexistence at being here in Groesbeck,” said Talent Chari, the owner of Texas Unplugged by Chari Ranch.

Guests are able to enjoy a treehouse-style home with a hot tub, and several activities. The exotic animals are in guests’ backyards.

“We don’t have any TVs,” he said. “We had to have internet, but we’re trying to have people come sit by the fire pit, talk, enjoy, relax, be in the hot tub, relax...feed baby kangaroos. That’s not everywhere.”

Chari is from Africa and, during the pandemic, he wanted to establish a place in Central Texas where it would feel like home for him, and feel like an escape from daily stressors to visitors. He said their theme is for people to unplug and relax with nature.

“I love animal, I love nature, I love trees,” he said. “This is home, so I’ve always wanted this for myself. When I finally managed to get a property like this one, I knew it was coming.”

To find the exotic friends took time, but he was able to make connections across Texas.

“Exotics all over in Texas,” he said. “Texas is booming with exotics, so you’re just getting plugged in with the right people, knowing the right people, finding people in auctions, all the animals here.”

He bought the property back in 2018 and started developing in 2020. Now, in May 2022, guests are finally able to experience Chari Ranch.

“We’re still brand new,” Chari said. “We just finally opened it. It was a long journey because there was a lot that happened for us to complete it. But now, yeah, it’s finally completed.”

Many visitors have stayed at the site so far. He said guests have enjoyed the animals, especially the baby kangaroos they get to feed and spend time with.

He said a typical one-night stay would include a time to feed the animals, including the baby kangaroos, or joeys. Employees would be attend take care of the guests’ needs.

“It’s a resort type of environment where we can start the fire for you,” Chari said. “We can start the fire for you. We can be here for you, so, if you come with your family, you don’t want to leave. You want to go to the grocery store. We are here for you. We can go do that for you.”

He said he has plans to start building more treehouses to provide larger or smaller options for guests. However, he is aiming to maintain a secluded and exclusive environment for guests.

In the next few years, he hopes to create a resort-style safari experience in Groesbeck.

“We’re ready to build four more, make this a resort, a big resort,” he said.

Prices average around $400 to around $600 a night. People can book on Texas Unplugged by Chari Ranch website, Airbnb or Vrbo or find them on social media .

The bathroom has a wet-room style, which means the shower is on the same level as the rest of the room. The bathroom is tanked and there’s a drain for the water to run down. It’s very modern and very beautiful.

The newest built treehouse at Cypress Valley , has a king size bed, deck chairs overlooking the creek, a separate bathhouse with an indulgent soaking tub, and a small loft for a third person.

This is a piece of art.

Please take time to look at what must have gone into the construction of this really cool tree house.

The Yoki does have 2 buildings.

The first building is the bathhouse it sits high up on a ledge of a creek that runs way below the treehouse.

The bathhouse is simple yet incredibly elegant.

There is a gorgeous soaking tub, a walk in shower, and a toilet.

The bedroom, living areas and kitchenette are beautiful.

The decor is reminiscent of the late 50’s and 60’s but with a modern touch.

There is a king bed and a single loft bed in this treehouse. 

If you are looking for quiet romance the Yoki is away from the main area so you will never see anyone and they can’t see you.

It is very private. If you want to meditate, practice yoga, and find your inner peace, this is the place.”

There is an outside porch and access to shared bathrooms, picnic tables and a swimming pool.

Guest review : “We stayed in the Willow for a one-night stay.

I would highly recommend trying to get in by early afternoon to take advantage of the ice cold pool on a hot day.

We enjoyed the tranquil getaway and with three other couples at this place during our stay, the only time we saw them was when we were all at the pool.

All amenities needed are provided (towels, coffee, water, toiletries for showers, etc).

The only true downside was the walk to the bath house for the restrooms but this was still only a 2-3 minute walk from our tree house (and we were well aware of this having already researched it ahead of time).

The staff was very accommodating at check-in and very thorough in explaining their process.

This is a great place to get away and unplug for a night but you’re still only a 10 minute drive from great restaurant/bar selections and Uber was actually available for those trips.” – Robert B

Once checked in and settled we never needed to see another soul.

We had planned on going to the pool but we enjoyed the treehouse and privacy so much we never did go.

We ventured out only once for dinner on night two.

The yurt style treehouse was very comfortable and roomy and nice and cool with an air conditioner and fans.

The deck that runs all around the treehouse allows you to follow the sun or the shade and see all that beauty.

At night the fireflies were so plentiful it was like watching fireworks.”
