What can be said about Eminem that hasn’t already been said? The most successful rapper of all time has sold nearly a quarter of a billion albums and changed the world of music and pop culture forever.

From his less-than-humble beginnings to the pinnacle of notoriety and superstardom, Marshall Mathers has truly seen it all.

Born in 1972 to his mother Debbie and father Bruce, Mathers’ family broke apart soon after forming. His father abandoned his wife and infant son and moved to California. Mathers and his mother moved between Detroit and Missouri, typically changing homes every year or so and living with family members. When he was a teenager, Mathers wrote letters to his father that all came back with “return to sender” marked on them.

For most of Mathers’ youth, he and his mother lived in a poor neighborhood in Detroit, and he was often targeted for bullying. But he had a creative outlet: He loved storytelling. He first dreamt of becoming a comic book artist, but then he discovered rap. The first rap song he ever heard was “Reckless” featuring Ice-T, given to him by his mother’s half-brother Ronnie. Ronnie played a positive role in Mathers’ childhood, mentoring him and giving him emotional support.

Marshall repeated ninth grade three times before dropping out of Lincoln High School at age 17. He had already begun rapping by this time and frequently snuck into the neighboring high school with his friend to compete in freestyle rap battles during lunch. Weekends saw them performing at open mics on West 7 Mile Road, the epicenter of Detroit’s underground rap scene. He spent much of his free time working on rhymes for different words in the English language.

Meanwhile, Mathers fought constantly with his mother, who was described as having a “very suspicious, almost paranoid personality” by a social worker. In 1987, Debbie invited runaway Kim Scott into their home. Marshall and Kim began a tumultuous relationship several years later. By 1988, he had adopted the stage name MC Double M and was recording demo tapes and appearing in music videos. Mathers’ uncle Ronnie committed suicide in 1991, a traumatic experience that caused Mathers to stop speaking for several days.

He formed The Dirty Dozen, also known as D12, in 1996 — the same year he released his debut album, Infinite, which was a commercial failure. DJs who rejected his tracks asked him why he didn’t just go into rock and roll, which fueled him to craft darker, angrier tracks. He and Kim lived in a dangerous neighborhood and were robbed multiple times, and Marshall was working for minimum wage washing dishes. Before Christmas of that year, he had been fired and attempted suicide.

In 1997, Mathers developed an alter ego called Slim Shady and recorded the Slim Shady EP, released by Web Entertainment. The EP attracted some attention, even getting mentioned by hip-hop magazine The Source in 1998.

After placing second in a nationwide rap battle in Los Angeles, Mathers’ EP got noticed by Dr. Dre. The two began working on The Slim Shady LP, which was released in February 1999. It went triple platinum by the end of the year. The album’s violent lyrics were an outlet for Eminem’s anger and frustration, and they struck a strange chord with the public.

The next decade was all his. His second full-length album, The Marshall Mathers LP, came out in May 2000 and sold nearly 2 million copies before the end of its first week. Mathers toured that year with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. In 2001, he was the only guest on Jay-Z’s album, The Blueprint.

In May 2002, Eminem released The Eminem Show, the best-selling album of the year with 27 million copies sold worldwide. Encore followed in 2004, showcasing more of his political commentary. His subsequent albums include Relapse, Recovery, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and, of course, the soundtrack to the semi-autobiographical blockbuster film 8 Mile.

Eminem’s career was relatively quiet in the late 2010s, until the earth-shaking moment he criticized then-President Trump in the 2017 freestyle “The Storm.” This represented a comeback moment for Eminem — his support for Black Americans resonated at a time when social unrest and inequality were becoming highly talked about.

You can catch Eminem’s concerts today—see what this world-changing artist is up to by seeing him live, in-person, at a stage near you.

Live reviews

“EMINEM.” Seeing his name lit across the stage was mind blowing. As if natural instinct, everyone started chanting, ‘EM-IN-EM, EM-IN-EM’, until the legend himself took the stage, wearing a get up that only the King of Rap could pull off.

Without a breathe of a moment, he jumps directly in to rapping, setting the crowd on fire as most of us have been waiting in the stadium for hours, and some of us have been waiting for years. As far back as we can remember, Eminem was there, withstanding the wrath of time and still being able to top the charts many, many years later.

The audience was as real as he is, old, young (too young), male, female and people of all colours were there. I could see it in their eyes, as they threw their hands to the beat and mouthed every word along with him, that at this moment, this is all they have ever wanted. When songs like “Lose Yourself”, “Stan”, “Not Afraid” and a few others were sung, tears flowed freely, because like every other person, those songs were a part of various struggles and difficulties you or someone you are close to have faced. That’s not to say the concert is a downer, no, not at all. Once you’ve wiped your tears away, “Without Me”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “Rap God” and more is performed, to get your body moving, dancing, jumping, flashing, whatever you are in to. Aside from the upbeat tracks, his stage presence is something else, he manages to be filthy and charming all at the same time.

And by the end of the show, you’re speechless. Firstly, because you’re in shock due to the fact that you have never experienced a level of such greatness, and secondly, because your voice is gone as rapping alongside the one and only Eminem, is not as easy as he makes it look.

Eminem in concert in LA was enough to make me extraordinarily happy, but for him to perform some hits from the Recovery album made the entire night absolutely worth it!! It was nostalgic for him to perform his old hits, taking me back to elementary and junior high school days, but Recovery was the album that solidified my love and appreciation for his artistry, talent and heart!

Em's portion of the show was absolutely fantastic, he is truly a lyrical genius and he never fails to deliever with an energy and intensity that is infectious! I would have been more than happy (and actually would have preferred) if the show was just his performance, but I can fully understand why he would need someone to fill some time to give him a break between his sets. When he performs it feels like he is literally pouring his heart and soul out on the stage and that has to be beyond exhausting for him, hence the need for Rihanna. Her part was ok. The venue (the Rose Bowl) was an experience in itself. Parking wasn't as bad as I was anticipating, but it was very expensive. The arena was packed solid, but I never felt too overwhelmed by people even though I was on the floor. It was just great to be surrounded by people who were enjoying the concert. If you ever have a chance to see Em in concert, I would say, GO!

I have been a huge Eminem fan since he came out with Cleaning Out My Closet, I was very very young at the time so I've been a fan since I was a little kid. I was very much looking forward to my first Eminem concert, and on 8/16 at MetLife Stadium, my dream finally came true. The website said they would start at 7:30, but they didn't start until like 8:40, but the whole concert made up for it. Eminem was amazing, I honestly have no words to describe the experience except that it was very unreal and I had to pinch myself a few times just to make sure this was really happening to me. He played a lot of his songs off his first two albums and then some songs off of Recovery & MMLP2. For anyone who had seats or had Floor B GA, you really missed out on an amazing view & concert. The view from the 200s & 300s probably sucked, they could only probably see Eminem & Rihanna from the jumbo screens. Rihanna was great too, she was very sweet & funny live, as well as sexy & seductive. Eminem was funny and his stage presence was wonderful. This was an experience I'd LOVE to have again, an experience many should get to enjoy and from the amazing view in GA. I do hope he goes on tour again in the next year or so.

Fucking amazing!! Man’s music has saved my life so many times! A real artist and an incredible lyricist... unbaleaveablw how much talent Marshal has. Tears dropped as he sung songs that touched my heart and took me back from the grave... I love him for all he has done for me an my recovery... if only I was able to thank him in person... In rehab they say to believe in power that’s greater than me, as my god. Eminem is that god to me. A powerful man that I know has saved so many lives just from his music. The show was the best show I’ve ever attended. Only issue was I wasn’t quick enough to get a ticket I the pit. I would have rocked up at 6am before the concert just to get into the front row and thank the ma. For everything he has done for my life..

But I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance to thanks him and praise Marshal. But I doubt I’ll

Ever get the chance to express the abundance of help, love and strength I receive when ever I lisfen laying down to his tracks!!! An I doubt he’ll ever truely know how many llivws he has saves and touched!!! 100/10 for the show!!! Bring him back pleaseeee!!!

Where do I start, right let’s try.... I’ve been lucky enough to see Eminem 3 Times now, first time was v festival where he was absolutely superb and stole the show. Second was at Wembley, where yet again he smashed it, and too bring out dre was unbelievable and the crowd went insane, personally thought, u are not topping that.... but now to twickenham, where I didn’t think he could possibly get any better or fulfill his thousands and thousands of fans, but how stupid was I haha, not only delivers the best show/concert I’ve ever been to and seen but upped the anti and performs the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few acts, not to finish there, but brings out not just 50 cent but ed sheeran also and the crowd just goes insane and lifted the roof off....

By far the best performer/performance I’ve been luckily enough to witness

I FINALLY got to see Eminem live after being a fan since day one. What can I say that will do the performance justice? He was AMAZING! Everything that I ever imagined in my mind an Eminem concert would be, well it was 10 times better than that. He was on point with his flow, the sound was awesome, the stage design was great too but honestly I didn't even pay that much attention to that because I was focusing on him the entire time. It was a long time coming for me to see him live and man did he exceed my expectations. Few shows have ever hit that top mark for me and wow he did it. There really are no words that I can say that will give him the credit he deserves for being an amazing artist and performer. All I can say is if you get a chance to watch him, DO IT! You will not be disappointed. I can't wait to be able to watch him again!

Marshal a.k..a Eminem, you are the best music star ever! I listen to your music everyday becuase I love how you put your anger and pain into the words of your songs, "I'm Sorry Mama, I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry" is one of the best emotional phrases you have used even though you think you have hurt them they will always love you and make sure you are safe. I will always buy your albums when they are released and even try and come to one of your concerts, hopefully meaning I get to meet you and ask for a picture with you and ask you nicely to sign my albums and posters I have. You are my favourite singer of all time. I am your biggest fan ever!

From Curtis

P.S. You are the best, hopefully I get to meet you and that would be the best day of my life I would never forget it and never forget you!

Eminem is epic. Eminem live is mind blowing! Live he performs a great variety of songs from all of his albums, mixing in some of his old stuff which brings feelings of nostalgia with his newer stuff which sounds great. He has got to be one of the best rappers of all time and the fact that he writes all his lyrics himself gives the songs depth and meaning. He's a lyrical genius! Watching him live is a roller coaster of emotions from jumping up and down and going wild to swaying your hands in the air with a sing-a-long. Even though Wembley held thousands he still performed like it was to each and every one of you, interacting with the crowd and showing off his great sense of humor. Eminem is amazing and I would highly recommend seeing him live, there's no feeling like it.

EMINEM RELEASES 20TH ANNIVERSARY EXPANDED EDITION OF ICONIC ALBUM ‘THE EMINEM SHOW’

DELUXE REISSUE FEATURES 18 BONUS TRACKS INCLUDING NEVER BEFORE HEARD SONGS

May 26th, 2022 — (Santa Monica, CA) — Eminem has just released the 20th-anniversary expanded edition of The Eminem Show (Shady Records/Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records) — his record setting, Grammy Award-winning fourth studio album. The deluxe reissue features 18 bonus tracks (including B-sides, live performances, instrumentals, and an unreleased song), none of which were previously available for download or streaming. Go HERE to listen to The Eminem Show (20th Anniversary Expanded Edition), and see below for the full tracklist.

The Eminem Show originally scheduled to be released on June 4th, had to be moved to May 26th to combat bootlegging and satisfy customer demand. Despite the change in date, the 20-track powerhouse nevertheless debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 based on a jaw-dropping ONE-DAY sales number of 284,000 records- the only album in history to accomplish such a feat. The following week saw The Eminem Show sell 1.3M copies, which currently stands as the  7th largest first-week US total of all time. The Eminem Show emerged as both the best-selling album in the U.S. and the best-selling album worldwide for 2002. The album earned diamond certification from the RIAA (awarded for sales in excess of 10 million copies in the United States) and has gone on to sell 27 million copies worldwide. Along with earning a nomination for Album of the Year at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards, The Eminem Show won in the category of Best Rap Album, while its seven-times-platinum lead single “Without Me” won Best Music Video.

As Eminem told SPIN Magazine at the time, “One of the frustrating things was people saying, ‘He’s got to cuss to sell records,'” he says. “That’s why with this album I toned it down a bit as far as shock value. I wanted to show that I’m a solid artist and I’m here to stay.”

Executive-produced by Dr. Dre — with most tracks produced by Eminem alongside his longtime collaborator Jeff Bass — The Eminem Show features guest appearances from Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Dina Rae, Obie Trice and D12. In addition to “Without Me,” the album features hit singles like “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” “Superman,” and “Sing for the Moment.” Named the best album of 2002 by Blender, Muzik, and LAUNCH, The Eminem Show was also hailed as one of the best albums of the 2000s by a variety of publications.

Later this year, Eminem will release physical editions of The Eminem Show (20th Anniversary Expanded Edition), including a four-LP vinyl set along with CD and cassette versions.

Eminem performs at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

Eminem announced Tuesday (May 24) that he’s celebrating the upcoming 20th anniversary of The Eminem Show with a new expanded edition of the album.

In the post, the rapper shared a video depicting himself sitting in front of a large bank of monitors, while songs from the 2002 album — including “Without Me,” “White America,” “Sing for the Moment,” “Superman” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” — play on the dozens of screens.

“‘Well, if you want Shady, this is what I’ll give ya…#TheEminemShow 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition drops Thursday 5/26,” Em captioned the teaser.

Released on May 26, 2002, as a follow-up to The Marshall Mathers LP , Eminem’s fourth studio effort became his second career No. 1 atop the Billboard 200 on its way to becoming the best-selling album of the year in both the U.S. and around the world.

Twenty years later, it’s been certified 12 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and become the second best-selling album of the 21st century, with 27 million units sold around the world. (Only Adele’s 21 ranks higher with 31 million copies.)

Last weekend, the artist otherwise known as Marshall Mathers made a cameo appearance on the season finale of Saturday Night Live to hilariously put Pete Davidson in his place. (“Pete. Don’t f—ing do it again,” he warned the comedian while interrupting his parody of “Forgot About Dre” dedicated to Lorne Michaels.)

Meanwhile, Mathers is also set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022 later this year alongside Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics and more.

Diana Ross, Jack White and Big Sean, who represent three distinct generations of Detroit superstars, will headline Thursday's all-star concert to celebrate the reopening of Michigan Central Station, organizers announced Monday. The sold-out concert will be streamed live starting at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Peacock, followed by a one-hour primetime special at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC.

Big Sean, Diana Ross and Jack White, three generations of Detroit superstars, will headline Thursday's concert to celebrate the reopening of Michigan Central Station.

The concert is being executive produced by Eminem and his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg. Other acts lined up for the 90-minute outdoor show include Common, Fantasia, Melissa Etheridge and Jelly Roll, along with Detroiters Illa J, Kierra Sheard, Theo Parrish, Slum Village, the Clark Sisters, Sky Jetta and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The program is rumored to fold in tributes to legendary Detroit rocker Bob Seger and late Detroit hip-hop producer J Dilla.

Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders and current Lions stars Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown are also slated to participate, along with comedian Mike Epps and actress Sophia Bush.

The live celebration comes as Ford Motor Company is reopening Michigan Central Station , the once-abandoned Corktown train station that closed in 1988 and for decades stood as a symbol of Detroit's decline.

"We wanted to celebrate the reopening of Michigan Central Station in style and make it a night to remember for Detroiters and people watching around the world," Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford, said in a statement. "I am honored and grateful that so many of Detroit’s musical legends, sports heroes, artists and innovators are joining us to celebrate the city we all love and the bright future we are creating together."

Tickets for the free concert were made available on May 22 and all 15,000 were claimed within five minutes , according to Michigan Central spokesman Dan Austin.

Gates for the concert, located off Michigan Avenue into Roosevelt Park, will open at 6 p.m. The show is slated to wrap at 10 p.m.

Locally, WDIV-TV (Ch. 4) will have exclusive coverage starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, and also streaming on Local 4+.

The event is being produced by Diversified Production Services and Killian + Company, and other exec producers on board include Grammy Awards executive producer Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay.

Ross, who turned 80 in March, is one of Motown's brightest stars, and she rose to international superstardom as a member of the Supremes, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The concert will be her first in Detroit since a July 2016 concert at the then-Chene Park Amphitheatre. (She did perform at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in September 2023.)

White, 48, emerged from Detroit's garage rock scene in the late 1990s with his two-piece the White Stripes, and broke big in 2001 with the band's "White Blood Cells." The group was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. White's last Detroit performance was at the Masonic Temple in April 2022, where he stunned concertgoers by proposing to and then marrying his girlfriend, Olivia Jean, on stage .

Big Sean, 36, rose out of Detroit's hip-hop scene in the late '00s with a series of mixtapes, following his signing to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music after he rapped for him outside of a Detroit radio station in 2005. He released his debut album "Finally Famous" in 2011, and performed at the first night of the NFL Draft in April in downtown Detroit.

Detroit mayor Mike Duggan said the concert's lineup is symbolic of the importance of the reopening of Michigan Central.

"Detroit is known around the world for its musical talent, and having so many legendary artists kick off the celebration for the reopening of the iconic Michigan Central Station shows how meaningful this moment is for our city," Duggan said in a statement. "This historic landmark symbolizes Detroit’s resilience, innovation, and now, its bright future. This is about more than preserving a piece of our past. It also is about paving the way for a new era of growth and opportunity for all Detroiters."

Michigan Central train station concert in Detroit: List of artists

the eminem show tour

Eminem is billed as an executive producer of Thursday night’s all-star Detroit concert alongside his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as the restored Michigan Central Station marks its reopening.

While there’s no official confirmation of an Eminem performance, word of his involvement has been circulating in music circles for weeks. If he does play, it would be the first hometown show by the Detroit rapper since two Comerica Park dates in 2014.

Ford Motor Co., which is spearheading the train station concert, has announced this lineup of artists so far:

● Diana Ross: The Motown luminary made her name in the 1960s with the Supremes — the most successful U.S. vocal group of the era — and went on to superstardom as a solo artist.

● Jack White: The southwest Detroit native was one-half of the White Stripes before going on to a solo career and business success with his Third Man Records operation.

● Big Sean: A prolific hitmaker since his 2011 breakout, the rapper born Sean Anderson has been part of the train-station hoopla since Ford bought the site in 2018.

● The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel helped drive the genre’s crossover into mainstream R&B during the 1980s.

● Kierra Sheard: The Detroit singer — herself part of the Clark family — is one of modern gospel’s top stars.

● Slum Village: The hip-hop group emerged from the Detroit underground in the ’90s and helped put the late producer J. Dilla on the map.

● Illa J: The rapper born John Yancey is a brother of Dilla and a longtime fixture of the Detroit scene.

● Theo Parrish: As one of the elites in Detroit techno's royal family, the DJ-producer is known for his musically sophisticated house music.

● Detroit Symphony Orchestra: During its 137-year history, the DSO has often been regarded among the world’s premier orchestras.

● Sky Jetta: The stylish Detroit DJ has been making increasing waves in the hip-hop world.

● Common: The Chicago MC has deep links to Detroit’s hip-hop scene, including collaborations with Slum Village and Dilla.

● Fantasia: After a triumph on “American Idol,” the North Carolina native found success on the R&B airwaves and Broadway.

● Melissa Etheridge: The rootsy rocker broke big in the ’90s with hits such as “Come to My Window” and “I’m the Only One.”

● Jelly Roll: Country music’s top breakout star of the past two years is an avowed Detroit music aficionado with a particular love of Bob Seger, Eminem and Motown.

Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg and Shane Gillis Pop Up in Eminem's "Houdini" Video

Slim Shady is back, back again — and Pete Davidson is his taxi driver.

Guess who's back? Back again.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live  Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on  NBC and next day on  Peacock .

Eminem, born as Marshall Mathers, has released the video for "Houdini," the first single off of his upcoming  The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) album. The music video for the new single is packed with celebrity cameos, including Snoop Dogg ,  Pete Davidson , and February 24  Saturday Night Live Host  Shane Gillis .

"Houdini," which samples the Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra," is a callback to Eminem's classic 2002 video for “Without Me.” It even opens with the same lyrics: “Guess who’s back, back again/Shady’s back, tell a friend," which should activate any millennial like a sleeper cell agent upon first listen.

The video features 2002 bleach-blond Slim Shady stepping through a portal to 2024. Young Slim Shady walks around the city, appalled by the state of modern tech gadgets like selfie sticks and VR headsets.

Dr. Dre, who first signed the rapper in 1998 and was featured in the original " Without Me " video, calls 2024 Eminem, telling him, "We've got a problem, check this out. Get your ass down here."

The video flashes comic book panels featuring some famous faces like 50 Cent and The Voice Coach Snoop Dogg as they sing along to the catchy chorus: "Guess who's back?"

Eminem knows this is a job for superhero alter-ego Rapboy, and he slips on some spandex and reunites with Dr. Dre. The two cruise around the city in search of Slim Shady, who continues to be unimpressed with the modern state of the world, even interrupting a recording of a podcast with Shane Gillis, trashing the studio out of annoyance.

Rapboy and the 2002 Slim Shady finally confront one another for an epic fight on a rooftop, but after throwing some punches, the two merge and create "some kind of unholy hybrid" as they are now one. The present day Eminem emerges from the battle with bleach blond hair — as the video shows the dye job spreading to other citizens of the city.

Eminem and Pete Davidson reunite the "Houdini" music video

Eminem returns to join Dre in their car, but the "Let Me Ride" rapper eventually exits the vehicle after Eminem starts rapping insults at Dre, former record exec and Beats Electronics CEO James Iovine, and even his own kids.

Eminem is momentarily left without a driver, until one last celebrity makes a cameo: Pete Davidson, blond, like the other Slim Shady clones.

"Trust me, I'm a great driver. Don't worry, I just got my license back," says Davidson as he hops behind the wheel. The video ends with Eminem and Davidson driving and careening into cars as they disappear down the dark city streets.

Eminem is giving his fans the first taste of his upcoming 12th album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” dropping this summer, with the release of its first single “Houdini.”

The song begins with a classic Eminem trope, enlisting his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg to share his distaste of the album that’s to come. “Hey Em, it’s Paul. I was listening to the album… Good fucking luck, you’re on your own,” says Rosenberg.

The music video for the song is a direct homage to “Without Me,” as Eminem steps into a portal back to the year when the song came out. The clip, shot in a comic strip style like the video for “Without Me,” features guest appearances from 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Alchemist, among many others, and sees two Eminems — one from 2002 and another from the current day — rapping along to “Houdini.”

Eminem released his highly-anticipated new single “Houdini” on Friday (May 31). The song became an immediate bestseller, as it shot straight to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes chart. It has held there for days, and as of the time of writing, it’s still running the show.

Ahead of “Houdini” debuting on the Billboard charts next week, one of the rapper’s biggest hits reappears on one list. At the same time, it lifts on another, which shows there’s real and sustained interest in the tune–even decades after it was released.

“Lose Yourself” is back on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart this period. The tune lands at No. 10 on Billboard’s list of the bestselling rap tracks in the country this frame.

Eminem’s smash is not new to the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, even though it wasn’t present on the tally last time around. “Lose Yourself” is actually one of the most successful titles of all time on this specific list. While it’s never made its way to No. 1–it has thus far been forced to peak at No. 2–it has now spent 475 weeks on the tally.

As it reappears on the rap sales tally, “Lose Yourself” is also on the rise on another ranking. The single steps up one rung on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. On that roster, it improves to No. 13.

“Lose Yourself” was written and recorded for the movie 8 Mile , which was loosely based on Eminem’s life. The hip-hop musician starred in the film, and the tune went on to become one of the most popular in his catalog.

After being released in 2002, “Lose Yourself” shot to No. 1 on the Hot 100. The song has gone on to become a 13-times platinum certified blockbuster, which few tracks have reached in American history. It also won Eminem the Best Original Song Academy Award, making him one of a very, very small number of hip-hop musicians to collect that honor.

In a few days, Eminem will likely debut on both of the tallies mentioned above with his new single. “Houdini” looks like it’s headed for a healthy debut, especially when it comes to sales. The new drop’s success on iTunes suggests that the rapper could be headed for a new top 10–and possibly another No. 1–on the tallies where “Lose Yourself” is currently surging.

Eminem’s new single ‘Houdini’ is quite literally ripped from 2002

Like teens on Depop, Eminem is combing through his Y2K archives for a new look.

On Friday, the rapper released “Houdini,” the first single from his upcoming album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” The song continues where his 22-year-old single “Without Me” left off, riffing on a similar beat and self-referential lyrics about how the world has changed while he remains the same spitball-chucking troll as always.

“My s— may not be age appropriate / But i will hit an eight year old in the face with a participation trophy,” the 51-year-old rapper jibes on “Houdini.” A fixed point in a turning world as ever.

The video digs out his same costume from “Without Me” and calls in favors from his Bush-era peak for cameos. Dr. Dre announces that a time portal has opened to 2002 and a digitally de-aged old Eminem is on the loose, with today’s grayer 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg playing along with the bit.

Em has company from the embattled-white-guy-celeb group chat: Pete Davidson, in bleach-blonde regalia, makes light of his recent arrest for menacing the roadways of Beverly Hills , while comedian Shane Gillis commiserates with a fellow semi -canceled superstar .

Eminem’s forthcoming album will likely execute his longstanding alter-ego Slim Shady (as seen in a recent fake obituary released in the Detroit Free Press). “Death of Slim Shady” is his first LP since 2020’s “Music to Be Murdered By,” which spent a week at number one at release. A release date has not yet been announced.
