Another preseason Clasico, Barcelona-Real Madrid, coming to U.S. this summer

In what has become a burgeoning, money-making tradition , FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will bring their renowned rivalry to the United States for a second consecutive summer.

They'll play El Clasico, as its known, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 29, as part of the second-year Soccer Champions Tour.

It will be a preseason match, of course. The tour — which will also feature Manchester United , Arsenal , Juventus and AC Milan — is not a tournament like some of its predecessors were. It is essentially eight one-off games, smack-dab in the middle of the Women's World Cup, billed by organizers as a "summer series" that will span California, Las Vegas, Texas and Florida.

But the headliner is the game of all games, perhaps the world's most celebrated sporting rivalry, at the grandiose stadium of all grandiose stadiums, Jerry World, the 105,000-seat home of the Dallas Cowboys that aspires to host the 2026 World Cup final .

El Clasico comes to the U.S.

When Barca and Madrid first brought their blood feud to the U.S. in 2017, the concept was ridiculed by some purists; but the exhibition game, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, was a roaring success. The Miami Clasico drew 1.7 million viewers on ESPN platforms and a sellout crowd willing to pay several hundreds of dollars apiece for tickets. Players competed, genuinely. A 3-2 Barcelona win thrilled everybody involved.

It felt, at the time, like a watershed moment for the International Champions Cup , the preseason event that grew to 18 teams and 27 games spread across nine countries late last decade. In early 2020, organizers were in negotiations to inaugurate Southern California’s SoFi Stadium with a second stateside Clasico that summer.

But then came COVID-19. The ICC canceled its 2020 programming, fizzled during the pandemic, and devolved into a legal dispute between its parent company, Relevent Sports, and its mastermind, the legendary soccer promoter Charlie Stillitano. The men's ICC has not been played since.

Relevent still runs a women’s ICC and other ventures. This summer, it is working with England 's Premier League and Spain 's La Liga on two separate North American tours. But in 2022, the Soccer Champions Tour swooped in for Barca and Madrid, and organized a Clasico at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. (Barca won, 1-0, in front of a boisterous, sellout crowd.)

In its second year, the Soccer Champions Tour has expanded to feature two clubs each from Spain, England and Italy . Sixth Street, a global investment firm that has partnered with both Barca and Real Madrid , is the company behind it. AEG is producing it. Legends is a key partner. And Stillitano, according to a source with knowledge of the tour's evolution, has been involved as a consultant.

Preseason tour schedules

The Soccer Champions Tour announced its full 2023 slate Friday:

Saturday, July 22: Barcelona vs. Juventus — Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

Sunday, July 23: Real Madrid vs. AC Milan — Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California

Wednesday, July 26: Arsenal vs. Barcelona — SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California

Wednesday, July 26: Real Madrid vs. Manchester United — NRG Stadium, Houston

Thursday, July 27: Juventus vs. AC Milan — Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California

Saturday, July 29: Barcelona vs. Real Madrid — AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Tuesday, August 1: AC Milan vs Barcelona — Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

Wednesday, August 2: Juventus vs. Real Madrid — Camping World Stadium, Orlando

Kickoff times haven’t yet been determined. In their Friday news release, organizers said that “the matches remain subject to approval by the relevant football authorities,” but that is likely a formality.

Separately, Arsenal and Manchester United have organized a preseason friendly at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 22. United is also set to play Wrexham on July 25 in San Diego — presumably with a reserve team, because one day later, it is now scheduled to play Real Madrid in Houston. It then plays Borussia Dortmund on July 30 in Vegas .

Arsenal will also play the MLS All-Stars on July 19 in Washington, D.C.

The Premier League's own "summer series" will feature Chelsea , Newcastle, Aston Villa , Fulham , Brighton and Brentford, with games in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey and Maryland.

El Clásico and Soccer Champions Tour to air on ESPN networks

kyle fansler

by Kyle Fansler July 10, 2023

soccer champions tour jogos

Sources tell World Soccer Talk that the Soccer Champions Tour has found a home on ESPN networks this summer.

The 2023 tournament features a slew of friendlies involving many of the top teams in Europe. For example, Manchester United, Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus. Also, Barcelona and Real Madrid play out their third Clásico in the United States. The Spanish giants also play games against those aforementioned European powers.

Channel details include many of the games appearing on ESPN+ as well as ESPN Deportes. Barcelona and Real Madrid fans are well-accustomed to ESPN’s channels, as that is the home of LaLiga. Of course, last summer, the Clásico friendly in Las Vegas aired on FS2 .

Even though the games are in the United States, ESPN acquiring the rights is welcome news for those interested in watching from home. Some of the world’s greatest players will play in these friendlies later this month. That likely includes preseason debuts for new signings such as Christian Pulisic at AC Milan , Mason Mount at Manchester United, Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid and/or Declan Rice at Arsenal.

Soccer Champions Tour on ESPN provides plenty of options

In total, there are eight games in the Soccer Champions Tour on ESPN. As of press time, among the live games from the Soccer Champions Tour on TV and streaming, they include:

  • Barcelona vs Juventus (Saturday, July 22 – 10:30 p.m. ET), ESPN+
  • Real Madrid vs Milan (Sunday, July 23 – 10 p.m. ET), ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes
  • Real Madrid vs Man United (Wednesday, July 26 – 8:30 p.m. ET), ESPN+
  • Arsenal vs Barcelona (Wednesday, July 26 – 10:30 p.m. ET), ESPN+
  • Barcelona vs Real Madrid (Saturday, July 29 – 5 p.m. ET), ESPN+
  • Milan vs Barcelona (Tuesday, Aug. 1 – 11 p.m. ET), ESPN and ESPN Deportes

Each of these teams has a strong following in the United States, and they will pull in audiences for ESPN’s coverage of the friendlies. However, the Soccer Champions Tour on ESPN does create some challenges for some of the other games happening at the same time in the United States.

Soccer Champions Tour faces plenty of competition

For example, the Leagues Cup faces stiff competition from many of these games involving European giants. Lionel Messi’s impending debut with Inter Miami against Cruz Azul should not be affected. However, on July 29’s Clásico in Arlington, TX, there are Leagues Cup matches in both Atlanta and Austin. Those games may struggle to pull in the audiences. Worse off for the Leagues Cup, those games are airing only on MLS Season Pass, while the Clásico airs on ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.

Then, there are other club friendlies going on during the same dates. The Premier League Summer Series has games on the same dates as Arsenal-Barcelona and Manchester United-Real Madrid. Premier League Summer Series games are mostly exclusive to streaming on Peacock . However, select games are on USA Network or NBC.

Soccer Champions Tour Announces New U.S. Summer Series Featuring Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan, Arsenal, and Manchester United

soccer champions tour jogos

Global soccer giants set to face off in major U.S. markets from July 22 – August 2

Series backed by new Sixth Street portfolio company built to bring epic soccer matchups to local fans around the world.

Santa Clara, CA ( May 12, 2023) – Soccer Champions Tour today announced the launch and schedule for a new series of games featuring six of the world’s most iconic soccer clubs to be played this summer in major markets across the United States. Spain’s Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, Italy’s Juventus and AC Milan, and England’s Arsenal and Manchester United will compete in eight matches between Saturday, July 22, and Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

The 2023 Soccer Champions Tour is the first time these six clubs, which hold among them 31 European trophies, have participated together in a U.S. series. The eight fixtures will take place in host market stadiums in Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and San Francisco.

Highlights of the 2023 Soccer Champions Tour include Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona meeting in Texas for the first time ever at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys; Manchester United and Real Madrid facing off for the first time since 2018; FC Barcelona and Arsenal competing in a rematch of the 2006 European final; and Italian rivals AC Milan and Juventus playing each other in California for the first time in their more than 120-year histories.

Soccer Champions Tour was created by a newly formed company of global investment firm Sixth Street to support the continued global growth of top-tier sports franchises by organizing high-profile, competitive events for the millions of fans that live outside the domestic markets of the biggest clubs.

“We are proud to be partnering with the world’s most storied clubs, which have the world’s strongest and most passionate supporters, to provide this rare opportunity for American fans to experience the game at the highest level,” said Alan Waxman, Co-Founder and CEO at Sixth Street. “While this year’s tour consists of men’s clubs, we look forward to expanding next summer to bring the world’s best women’s clubs to local audiences around the globe, and in the future to evolve this series into a format with real games of consequence.”

In addition to men’s and women’s professional club matches, the tour also intends to organize elite youth academy competitions in the years to come.

Soccer Champions Tour is working closely with global premium experiences company Legends to bring these marquee matchups and elevated in-game experiences to local fans of the game.

Added Shervin Mirhashemi, CEO, Legends: “Legends is proud to bring fans of the beautiful game this unforgettable experience this summer and deliver a fan experience that will match the world-class soccer on the pitch. Borussia dortmund vs. real madrid odds, picks and predictions, share this article.

Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid square off at Wembley Stadium in London for the UEFA Champions League Final Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze  FanDuel Sportsbook’s  lines around the Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid odds , and make our best Champions League bets, picks and predictions.

These teams haven’t met since 2017, and Real Madrid won both matchups in 2017, beating Dortmund 3-2 and 3-1 in the Champions League.

With the season over, Real is the official winner of La Liga, the top league in Spain. They ended with a +61 goal differential, having tallied 87 and allowed 26. In Champions League play, Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 2-1 at home following a 2-2 road draw to advance. They also beat Man City in the quarterfinals, drawing back-to-back matches and winning on the road in penalty kicks. Madrid won all 6 Champions League group stage games and beat RB Leipzig a combined 2-1 in the Round of 16.

Dortmund finished 5th in the Bundesliga, the top league in Germany, ending with a +25 goal differential, averaging 2.00 goals per game while allowing 1.26 per game. They ended the year strong, going 11-1-4 throughout all competitions. In the Champions League, Dortmund finished the group stage 3-2-1 before beating PSV 3-1 in the Round of 16 and then edging Athletico Madrid 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Dortmund’s most impressive performance was 2 back-to-back 1-0 wins over PSG in the semifinals.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid odds

  • Moneyline: Borussia Dortmund +420 (bet $100 to win $420) | Real Madrid -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Draw +310 (bet $100 to win $310)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -130 | U: +108)

Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid picks and predictions

Borussia Dortmund 1, Real Madrid 1 (Real Madrid wins in overtime)

Moneyline  (ML)

SPRINKLE DRAW (+310) .

Madrid has drawn 4 of their last 5 Champions League matches. Simply put, they play to the level of their competition. In those 5 matches, they drew RB Leipzig at home, City away and at home and Bayern Munich on the road. While City and Munich are far away better teams than Leipzig, that draw is most concerning as Madrid should’ve been able to blow them out at home, but rather played to their level and even had fewer expected goals.

For Dortmund, while they have won 3 straight Champions League matches, 2 of those ended within 0.4 expected goals, and in the 3rd they had 3.2 fewer expected goals. They are going to be the inferior side, and the moneyline suggests that as well. However, they are good enough to keep things close, and for this value, back DRAW (+310) .

Over/Under  (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+108) .

While older Champions League Final games did have more scoring, over the past half a decade, the scoring has been limited. All 5 of those games went under 2.5 goals and the last 4 have resulted in a 1-0 finish. While on paper both teams have dynamic attacks, at this level of play and the unfamiliarity of the teams, scoring isn’t easy.

Madrid has gone Under this total in 3 of 6 Champions League games since the group stage. Dortmund has gone Under it in 4 of their last 6 Champions League matches despite playing an ultra-talented PSG attack. With that in mind, back UNDER 2.5 (+108) .

Goodbye for now

After an absorbing 90 minutes at Wembley, history repeats itself as Real Madrid find a way to win when it matters most.

The Spanish giants are the Kings of Europe again, taking the trophy home for a record 15th time.

Tonight’s final wraps up the domestic football season in Europe but fear not, the Euros are just around the corner and Al Jazeera Sport will be bringing you plenty of coverage from that tournament in Germany.

Away from football, the T20 Cricket World Cup is about to get started in Texas. You can follow live coverage of the opening game here.

From me, Adam Hancock, and my colleague, Kevin Hand, good night.

Former Madrid manager reveals what he said to Dortmund boss on the pitch

“He was saying that it’s very very hard,” Mourinho told TNT Sports.

“I told him that time is not going to help you, it will be very hard for your life. But I told him the coach could not do any more. The coach cannot go onto the pitch.

“They were amazing. They did everything apart from scoring.”

Dortmund manager Terzic congratulates Madrid

“It’s very tough to find the right words,” he told TNT Sports

“Performance-wise we played a great game but we found out why they are champions for the 15th time.

“We were here to win and I think it was very close and there were just small things missing. But congratulations to them.

“This is a proud moment. We brought 100,000 fans to London. They thought we could win it but it’s also a little empty because we could not make it.

“This is now the challenge. We need to keep the belief. In the world of sport, there is always a winner and a loser so no need to have any doubts and just to keep belief.”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti thanks his players

Carlo Ancelotti has been reflecting on his fifth Champions League win as a manager.

“It seems a dream. I’m really happy for sure,” Ancelotti told TNT Sports.

“It was a really difficult game as usual. They played better in the first half and we played better in the second half.

“We had a great season, winning the league and the cup.

“It’s the history of this club. The atmosphere is extremely good in the dressing room. I have to thank the club and the players, they are humble with no ego in the dressing room. It was not difficult to manage them this season.”

Joy for Jude

Hey Jude rings out around Wembley, with the 20-year-old Bellingham tearful as he is cheered by the Madrid fans.

What a debut season in Spain for the English midfielder, capped off with a Champions League win against his former club.

Once this party ends, he will link up with the Three Lions as he goes in pursuit of another European victory this summer.

Adding Mbappe into the mix

Fifteen times Champions of Europe and one of the greatest players in the world on the way in.

It doesn’t get much better for Madrid.

This talented squad is set to be even better next season, with numerous reports that French superstar Kylian Mbappe will be joining over the summer.

Don’t bet against the Spaniards lifting the trophy in Madrid next year.

Football isn’t a fairytale and there aren’t always happy endings. Our story continues, and we couldn’t do it without your support. Our Yellow Wonderwall through it all. Thank you 💛 — Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) June 1, 2024

Madrid start the party

It’s going to be a huge party in London for those Madrid fans. They are dancing in the stands as the trophy is lifted by each player.

It might be the 15th time they have won this competition but it gets no less special.

Real Madrid’s Bellingham wells up in interview

“I’ve always dreamed of playing in these games,” Bellingham told TNT Sports with tears in his eyes. “You go through life and there are so many people that tell you that you can’t do things.

“I was all right until I saw the faces of my mum and dad in the crowd.

“I couldn’t have dreamed it would be much better than this.”

Don Carlo victorious again

Just the five European Cups for Carlo Ancelotti now.

Add that to winning leagues in Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England and you are looking at one of, if not the greatest, manager ever.

Madrid lift the trophy

The Madrid players are up now for the moment they have been waiting for; the trophy lift.

Dortmund collect their medals

A painful moment for the Dortmund players as they pick up their runners-up medals.

That first half will play on their minds for a long time. A real “what could have been” scenario.

The camera picks out a few teary Dortmund fans in the stands. A tough night.

Officials collect their medals

As is customary, the officiating team pick up their final medals.

Slavko Vincic had a good game in the middle.

“He’s not a social media coach. He comes from a meritocracy. Go to his office and see his medals,” former Madrid coach Jose Mourinho told TNT Sports.

The win marks Ancelotti’s fifth Champions League winners medal as a manager. He also won the competition twice as a player.

Dortmund rue first half mistakes

The trophy is already being engraved and it’s the most familiar of names being written on it.

Spare a thought for Dortmund. They were unexpected finalists and real underdogs, but they had Madrid on the ropes in the first half.

15 times Champions of Europe!

Real Madrid are a machine designed purely to win finals.

Despite being nowhere near their best for most of this match, the Spaniards have won this competition for a record 15th time.

Even when Dortmund were well on top in the first half, it just felt that Madrid would find a way to win.

There’s plenty of emotion on display on the pitch and in the stands.

Dortmund goal ruled out

Dortmund think they have hope, with Donyell Malen – who’s just come on – finding Fullkrug in the box.

The German forward finds the back of the net with a header, but the goal is rightfully ruled out for offside.

The UEFA Champions League final is finally here! If that was not enough for you, Emma Hayes also makes her USWNT debut in Colorado with a friendly vs. South Korea kicking off the June camp.

🏆 real madrid eye 15th ucl title in london.

Real Madrid already boast the all-time best UEFA Champions League tally of 14 titles and have the chance on Saturday to extend that record to 15 against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. Carlo Ancelotti's men are almost exclusive proprietors when it comes to the most coveted silverware in soccer and the Italian tactician himself could win fifth personal UCL title as a head coach and third with Los Blancos after his 2014 and 2022 triumphs.

Up against unexpected finalists BVB, Real are the heavy favorites to succeed and to celebrate another continental crown before the expected announcement of the arrival of French superstar Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Jude Bellingham finds himself lining up against his former club and the England international will hope to be the difference in London ahead of UEFA Euro 2024 which could see him starring for the Three Lions as one of the pre-tournament favorites to win that along with Mbappe's France.

Toni Kroos is preparing for an emotional final game not only with Real but also at club soccer level with his involvement with Germany on home soil this summer set to end in retirement from the game after what has been a glittering career -- regardless of Saturday's outcome. Vini Jr. has also been here before and has already been a game winner in a Champions League final when the Spanish giants edged Liverpool in Paris which was not a classic encounter for Real's record 14th win.

  • Cattry: "Real Madrid's latest Champions League triumph was perhaps the most dull of them all, considering they took just three shots and scored off their single attempt at goal. That said, Thibaut Courtois impressed at the Stade de France by making nine saves as Liverpool posted 23 shots, earning Man of the Match honors in the process. It was also a notable night for Vinicius Junior, who scored the game's lone goal and won his first Champions League title in the process."

👀 bvb hope to upset the odds.

untitled-design-2024-05-31t161423-750.png

Real's opponents on Saturday are not in London to make up the numbers, though, as Borussia Dortmund have dumped out some big names so far this edition including Mbappe's PSG in the semifinals. Although BVB finished fifth in the Bundesliga compared with Real's latest La Liga triumph, many people do forget that the Germans have already won this competition once in 1997 and have a proud history to honor in the Champions League which Edin Terzic and his players will do their very best to uphold.

One of Dortmund's star performers on this incredible run to the final has been goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and the Switzerland international will be aiming to build on his sensational showing against PSG over two legs which somehow produced two clean sheets. The 26-year-old leads all goalkeepers with 42 saves and six clean sheets as well as an impressive 7.09 prevented goals in UCL play -- something which Real's 2022 hero Thibaut Courtois would be proud of.

CBS Sports Golazo Network caught up with Kobel ahead of this weekend's mega clash and was optimistic about BVB's chances of pulling off another upset.

  • Kobel: "It looks like we feel comfortable in that situation [as underdogs] but I think it doesn't really matter for us as a team if we're considered the underdog or not. We built up a lot of confidence throughout this Champions League campaign. We beat a lot of good teams and we showed that we can beat every opponent that is in front of us and with this confidence we approach the game Saturday as well."

Dortmund beating Real here would certainly rank as one of the all-time shock final results but it will require more than just Kobel excelling. Also key has been veteran defender Mats Hummels in some of the best form of his career despite being overlooked for UEFA Euro 2024 by hosts Germany while unconventional attacker Niclas Fullkrug has scored some important goals this campaign including in the first leg against PSG before Hummels finished the job at Parc des Princes and he will need to make a nuisance for Real's Antonio Rudiger who will be an international teammate this summer on home soil along with the retiring Kroos.

  • 💰 THE PICK: Bellingham to score, Real to win and both team score in 90 (+500)  -- Although Dortmund's defense has been rock solid, Real's attack is impressive and promises to give the Germans a torrid time here. BVB have found ways to score against opponents but have relied on their back line most in order to advance. Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals showed that Dortmund can still catch fire, but Real are on an entirely different level. Jude Bellingham scoring against his former club, Real running out winners but Edin Terzic's side getting a consolation goal against Carlo Ancelotti's men sounds about right.

LONDON (AP) — If this was Erik ten Hag’s final game in charge of Manchester United, it was a sensational way to go out.

Against the backdrop of intense speculation that he is about to be fired , Ten Hag and United stunned defending champion Manchester City 2-1 to lift the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.

Receiving his medal from the future king of England, Prince William, the Dutchman then got his hands on his second trophy in as many seasons to end a troubled campaign on a high.

Is it enough to save his job?

“I’m not satisfied with it, we have to do better, and if they don’t want me anymore then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career,” a defiant Ten Hag said. “We are constructing a team and when I took over it was a mess at Manchester United.”

First-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo set up the win. City piled the pressure on after the break and eventually pulled a late goal back through substitute Jeremy Doku.

United’s owners were watching on from the executive seats at Wembley and have a decision to make.

“We are all very proud of the players and the staff who work tirelessly to support them,” new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said.

The British billionaire bought a 27.7% stake in United in February and is overhauling the club. There’s widespread anticipation that Ten Hag will become the latest casualty of his revamp regardless of the cup final triumph.

That theory will be put to the test after this win, which deprived crosstown rival City of the first back-to-back English league and cup doubles and also saw United qualify for the Europa League next season.

“My game plan was not good,” City manager Pep Guardiola said.

Ten Hag got his tactics spot on as United soaked up pressure and pounced to take control by the break.

Garnacho opened the scoring in the 30th minute, sparking panic in City’s defense when chasing onto a hopeful punt from Diogo Dalot deep in his half. Josko Gvardiol was quicker to the ball, but his headed back pass went over the onrushing City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to leave Garnacho with an open net to tap home.

If that goal benefited from luck, United’s second nine minutes later came from a slick attack, with Garnacho at the heart of it again when cutting in from the right wing and playing in Bruno Fernandes.

The United captain hit a first-time no-look pass to Mainoo, who coolly slotted past Ortega.

The final was a repeat of last year’s which City won 2-1, and Pep Guardiola’s team did not give up its trophy without a fight. Doku’s long range shot in the 87th set up a nervy finish.

By that point Erling Haaland had hit the bar, Kyle Walker had forced goalkeeper Andre Onana into two outstretched saves, and substitute Julian Alvarez missed the target from close range with only the keeper to beat.

It is United’s 13th FA Cup, one behind Arsenal’s record of 14. And it is Ten Hag’s second trophy after winning the League Cup last year.

Players and staff embraced him on the field after the final whistle and fans cheered rapturously as he went to collect the trophy in front of the co-owners, Americans Joel and Avram Glazer and Ratcliffe.

Victory, however, came after United’s worst league season in 34 years.

“It’s been a tough season with ups and downs. This is the only thing we’ve had to look forward to,” Mainoo said. “We knew we had to come together. The preparation for this game has been amazing. We’ve shown we can compete and win games.”
