  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Discovery’s Food Network is hungry for more on-the-road cooking improv escapades from the Try Guys , the YouTube viral-video comedy troupe.

The cabler picked up “No Recipe Road Trip With the Try Guys” to series, with an additional five-episode order. Food Network previously had announced a deal with the Try Guys for a one-off special of the same name; the special will now air as part of Season 1 so there will now be six episodes total. No premiere date has been set for the hour-long “No Recipe Road Trip” series, which likely will be available on both Food Network and Discovery Plus.

Food Network Set to Launch Ben & Jerry's Ice-Cream Flavor Challenge

In the show, the Try Guys take their no-recipe mentality on the road, testing their mettle in kitchens across America by attempting to whip up a variety of classic dishes and restaurant specialties — with some “surprising and hilarious results,” per Food Network. Pre-production is currently under way on the additional episodes.

The Try Guys, who launched their careers while at BuzzFeed, comprise best friends and creators Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld and Eugene Lee Yang. “No Recipe Road Trip” is inspired by the quartet’s popular series “Without a Recipe,” in which they attempt to cook and bake without instructions.

“We’ve loved making this show and couldn’t ask for a better creative partner for our first foray into TV,” the Try Guys said in a statement provided by Food Network. “We’re thrilled to bring this show to our incredible fans and share our love of food with a new audience.”

The social media stars have more than 13 million followers across platforms, and their videos have amassed more than 3 billion video views to date. They left BuzzFeed in June 2018 to form their own production company, 2nd Try. With their trademark willingness to try anything and everything, The Try Guys videos have featured them testing out labor-pain simulators, attempting Alaskan dog sledding, parallel parking 18-wheeler trucks, and getting nail extensions. The group also penned bestselling book “The Hidden Power of F*cking Up” and were featured in the documentary film “Behind The Try.”

“The Try Guys’ trademark approach to food, combined with their overwhelming popularity has us very excited,” said Courtney White, president of Food Network and streaming food content at Discovery. “When we screened the pilot, we knew our audience would love a full series featuring this foursome’s audacious spin on cooking. We’re eager to leverage and grow their following as we broaden their reach on Food Network.”

“No Recipe Road Trip With the Try Guys” is produced by Beyond Productions. The Try Guys are represented by ICM Partners and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis LLP.

No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys

Watch No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys

No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys is a fascinating and engaging show available on discovery+. Starring Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang, the Try Guys travel across the country in order to explore different regions' foods without using recipes.

The show combines travelogue, cooking show, and reality TV to create a unique viewing experience. The Try Guys, who are famous for their viral BuzzFeed videos, use their humor and charm to entertain viewers while showcasing the best of regional American cuisine. The group takes viewers on a culinary journey by visiting a variety of locations including Texas, Louisiana, Oregon, and Hawaii.

One of the most memorable aspects of the show is the absence of recipes. Instead of following a set of instructions for each dish, the Try Guys rely on their experience, instincts, and willingness to experiment to create unique and innovative meals. For example, in one episode, the team visits a crawfish farm in Louisiana and learns how to catch and cook the crustaceans without using any set recipe. This approach results in a relaxed and fun-loving atmosphere that is refreshing in the world of cooking shows.

Another notable feature of No-Recipe Road Trip is the way that the Try Guys interact with the people and cultures they encounter on their journey. They take the time to learn about the history and traditions behind the different dishes they sample, as well as the communities that produce them. In some cases, they even participate in activities such as dancing, music-making, and outdoor adventures that are unique to each location.

The show also features stunning and cinematic footage of the locations that the Try Guys visit. From bustling city streets to picturesque countryside, the series highlights the natural beauty and cultural richness of each region. The production team makes use of drone shots, time-lapses, and slow-motion sequences to create a visually stunning journey for viewers. The result is a show that is as much a travel documentary as a cooking show.

Throughout the series, the Try Guys prove themselves to be more than just funny and entertaining hosts. They are also passionate foodies who are eager to share their love of good food with viewers. Rather than being pretentious or exclusive, the show emphasizes the importance of accessible and inclusive food culture. This message is particularly powerful in a world where food has often been used to divide people based on ethnicity, class, and other factors.

Overall, No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys is a must-see for anyone who loves travel, food, and entertainment. The series is a perfect blend of humor, education, and inspiration that makes for a delightful viewing experience. Whether you're a seasoned home cook or someone who's never ventured beyond the drive-thru, this show has something for everyone. So fire up the streaming service, get comfortable, and let the Try Guys take you on a journey through the best of American cuisine.

No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (5 episodes). The series first aired on August 31, 2022.

Road Trip Lunch Ideas

Camping & road trip Lunch Ideas; chickpea salad, sandwiches, fruit & veggies.

Road trip lunch ideas are probably the easiest for most people to come up with, when it comes to thinking of meal planning for road trips . We like to think of them as picnic lunches.

What is the first thing that comes to mind, but sandwiches. Sandwiches are such a staple we’ve given them their own section below.

To be honest, I often just prepare and pack foods I would usually take for lunch at work, for the first day or two.

Then I add easy road trip lunches to grab and prep along the way, like sandwich fixings. Or cheese, meat  and cracker plates for a longer trip.

Road Trip Sandwiches

What’s a road trip, without a sandwich or two. In fact sandwiches are so iconic, portable, easy to make and ideal for lunch and family vacation dinners they deserve a section, all on its own.

For easy,  awesome sandwiches we’ve found you will only need a few things to mix and match:

  • Bread: First you’ll need some kind of hearty bread (kaiser bun, wraps, pita, baguette, ciabatta)
  • Protein: Pair with protein such as deli meat, sliced chicken or beef, bacon, eggs, tofu, nut butters
  • Extras: Add on the extras such as cheese, lettuce, pickles, fruit
  • Condiments: mayo, mustard, olive tapenade, other sauces

Tasty Sandwich Ideas for Traveling:

Tips for Packing Sandwiches on Road Trips

  • Start with heartier bread or toast it first . Put a layer of mayo, or mustard on each side. It actually helps prevent soggy sandwiches.
  • I often toast the bread, and then wait until it’s completely cooled before making and storing the sandwiches.
  • Keep wet sandwich ingredients separate like tomatoes. We add them right before eating.
  • Pack each ingredient separately . Then everyone can assemble their sandwich how they like, on-the-go. We’ve found this helpful with our pickiest eater.
  • Pack sandwiches in a hard sided container . Either use reusable individual sandwich containers or larger leak-proof containers for multiple sandwiches. We also love silicone sandwich bags to cut down on plastic.
  • Keep the sandwiches on top of the cooler for easy to grab meals on the road.

Easy Road Trip Meals Dinner Ideas

Dinner is the one meal we often splurge on, and choose to eat out at a local restaurant, instead of on the road when possible.

I like to do a bit of research and see what the area is known for, or if there are special meals we can’t get at home. Also after a few days of packed road trip meals, it’s nice to sit down at a restaurant and have someone else clean up and organize.

However, there are times I find when you need a few dinner in the car ideas on hand. You can always re-use the lunch or even the travel breakfast ideas , because they are all tasty anytime of day.

Check out our favourite easy vacation dinner recipes .

Mason Jar Meal tips

Mason Jars are a fun and easy way to store pre-made meals.

They are fairly sturdy (I’ve dropped them many times without breaking them) and come in different sizes. The 500ml and 250 ml are perfect for individual meals.

Choose a grain + a protein + roasted, steamed or stir fried veggies and you have a delicious meal to go.

  • Pre-cook a grain: brown rice, basmati rice, white rice, quinoa,
  • Choose a protein : roast chicken or beef, curried chickpeas, tofu
  • Cooked veggies: stir fries, steamed broccoli, curries, stew,

Hot Road Trip Dinner Ideas

One pan or pot dinner ideas are perfect for travel, camping and road trips. Especially if you ‘ve been entertaining the kids with road trip conversations all day.

As long as you remember the hot plate, or cook stove. I’ve been there, done that, forgetting the stove. Another option is to choose motels, or places to stay that have basic kitchen facilities.

I’ve also gone the route of meal prepping ahead of time and putting individual meals in separate containers that are easy to reheat and clean up.

If you are a camping family, what you plan for pre-made camping meals is similar.

Think easy camping type meals:

  • Baked Beans
  • Cup of Soup or Canned Soup
  • Frozen Homemade Soup (use the first day or two after it defrosts. Bonus it helps keep the cooler cold)
  • Bacon or Sausages and Eggs
  • Quesadillas
  • Rice and beans or ground beef for tacos or wraps
  • Chickpea Curry and Rice (pre-make and heat up)
  • Spaghetti

Who doesn’t drink too much on the road because they are avoiding using restrooms at pull-outs or gas stations?

I’m guilty of this too, but this often leads me to crankiness and wicked headaches, sooo…… Do as I say, not as I do (said Parents everywhere).

Staying hydrated is super important. While water should be the number one choice, sometimes you need a little something different like:

  • Coconut water
  • Water with crushed berries, or cucumber slices, or lemon
  • No sugar added fruit juices
  • Flavoured Sparkling water
  • Almond / Oat / Soy Milk

Road Trip Food & Meal Planning Tips

Road Trip Cooler full of food, apples, deli meat, cheese, carrots.

Meal Planning Tips

When meal planning healthy road trip foods, I think it’s important to consider a few key important things:

  • What road trip meals you want to bring, and which one’s you’d like to buy.
  • If travelling with kids, which foods do they already like. They aren’t going to magically start liking raw broccoli and raisins on your long trip. Adapt your food for road trips with kids.
  • Road trip meal ideas – Make a list of food ideas for breakfast , lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks. Make sure they’re easy food to travel with.
  • Creating a road trip grocery list is a good idea, so important items don’t get forgotten. But don’t stress, as usually you’ll be able to pick up ingredients along the way if needed.
  • How to pack food for your road trip, so it doesn’t get squished, and stays cool longer.

With so much to do when planning a road trip, it’s sometimes hard to be prepared when it comes to traveling food.

Road Trip Food Tips

Beyond throwing a bunch of items into the cooler and food bag and hoping for the best. Let’s give you a few of my top tips to make packing a bit easier:

  • Bread: Bring wraps, pitas and flatbreads – we find they take up less room, and won’t get squished like bread loaves
  • Perishables: Eat your perishables and more fragile fruits first (bananas, raspberries, pre-cut fruit like melons, pineapple, mango etc.)
  • Freeze Water bottles: When hot out, freeze a couple of the water bottles the night before. They’ll keep your cooler cold, and we love that they give us cold water to drink as they melt.
  • Pre-Make Meals & Portion Out: Pre-make meals, and portion them out in mason jars or reusable plastic or glass containers.
  • Place your cooler somewhere cool the night before, or pre-chill the cooler for up to 12 hours with ice / ice packs you won’t be using on your trip.
  • Lay solid blocks of ice or reusable ice packs on the bottom, plus put a layer of ice on the top
  • Pack the cooler full – too much space helps the inside heat up faster
  • Freeze food you won’t need for a couple of days, and use frozen water bottles to help keep the inside colder, longer
  • Try to limit the number of times you open the cooler in the day.
  • Pack your food in order of when you want to eat it, leaving the next day or two’s meals on top.
  • Garbage Bag for the car: We always have a designated garbage bag for the car. It helps to keep the garbage contained, and the car organized.
  • Clean-Up Kit :  Bring a clean up kit. Kids, adults, toddlers all on occasion make messes. Having a clean-up kit handy just in case is good practice. Include wipes, paper towel, extra water, and an easily accessible change of clothes.
  • Storage: To keep things organized, we usually use small stackable Rubbermaid containers to pack our non-perishables.

Road Trip Essentials

Now that we’ve got the meals all planned out, and the best road trip SNACKS organized  let’s move on to the non-food items you’ll need to add to your road trip packing list.

Storage & Cleaning Supplies

  • Reusable Ice Packs

Travel Backpacks

You will definitely want to make sure you and your kids have their own travel backpack for the trip.

A good travel backpack can be multipurpose, for hiking, storing road trip activities and entertainment, plus give easy access to a couple of snacks, and a handy change of clothes.

There’s been numerous times my “safety first” approach & extra clothes has saved us on long trips. From puking children, to epic diaper blow outs, and unexpected spills, with kids it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Best Road Trip Coolers

Coolers provide more flexibility with the types of meals and snacks  you can bring on your trips. We think they are a road trip essential, without a doubt. Before choosing one, there are a few things to consider:

  • How long is your trip?
  • Which meals will you be packing from home?
  • How often will you have access to a grocery store?
  • How much space do you have in your vehicle? Where do you want to put the cooler?

Answers to these questions will give you an idea of the size and cooling ability needed from your cooler. We’ve put together a list of the best coolers to try, that are easily available on Amazon.

Best Overall Cooler – Yeti Roadi 24 Cooler

Best Afforable Family Cooler – Coleman 316

Coleman 316 Series Insulated Portable Cooler

The Coleman 316 Cooler is a top pick for size, flexibility and price. It can hold a lot of food and ice, which can be kept cool at higher temps for 2-3 days.

Perfect for shorter trips, or if you plan on replenishing your food / ice every few days.

Best Soft Sided Cooler – TOURIT Leak-Proof Backpack

TOURIT Leak-Proof Soft Sided Cooler Backpack

The Tourit Leak Proof soft-sided backpack is an excellent option for shorter road trips or if you are planning a picnic or day at the beach. This leak-proof high-density insulated backpack can keep food cold for up to 3 days. It also has side pockets for extra storage.

Tips to Prepare For Your Next Road Trip

Anything you can do the day or two beforehand to prep your food, and pack your non-perishables, do it. This will save rushing around at the last minute, and forgetting important things like your water bottles.

We recommend doing the following ahead of time:

  • Make a Shopping list and meal plan.
  • Check off the items as you pack them.
  • Wash and cut veggies and fruit
  • Prepare sandwiches, meat slices, cheese slices
  • Freeze meals and water bottles the night or two before
  • Prepare the snack bags or snack tote
  • Prepare your Clean up kit
  • Pack non-perishable foods in small totes or bags
  • Pack your perishable foods in the cooler, & an airtight container, right before you leave.

PRO TIP: Pack your car the night before you leave, to make sure everything fits. Make sure your cooler and essential road trip snacks are easily accessible.

Brittney Griner still out as Phoenix Mercury fall to Liberty, face Lynx

road trip without a recipe

Everything that could've possibly gone wrong for the Phoenix Mercury occurred in their 70-47 road loss to the WNBA's top team and unbeaten Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.

Things won't get easier for Phoenix (3-3) as it continues a three-game road trip before hosting the young Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday.

It's been especially difficult without Brittney Griner (left foot-toe), who's out indefinitely and hasn't played since the first of Phoenix's two preseason games.

Phoenix played the second of back-to-back games at the defending Eastern Conference champion New York Liberty (4-2), led by the reigning MVP Breanna Stewart, on Wednesday. Phoenix lost 81-78 after leading late.

“You flush this one. You’re moving on. You don’t have time to break it down," Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts said after losing to Connecticut. "We’ll talk about it a little bit tomorrow, but we gotta ready for the Liberty. This was an outlier. I don’t think this is something that we’re gonna talk too much about. We’re just gonna keep moving.”

The Mercury were without one starting guard in Becca Allen (concussion protocol) for the second straight contest, and backup point guard Sug Sutton (right ankle) was out at Connecticut.

After New York, the Mercury face the Minnesota Lynx (4-1), led by three-time All-Star Napheesa Collier. Minnesota currently has the league's second-best record, is second in scoring (88.6 points per game), and is No. 1 in defensive rating (91.2), steals (11.8) 3-point percentage (38.6), and field goal percentage (47.0).

Phoenix ranks seventh, eighth, ninth, eighth, sixth, and last at 12th in those respective categories.

It was all good just a week ago before Phoenix's two straight blowout losses to the fifth-place Dallas Wings on Saturday and then at Connecticut.

The Phoenix Mercury were on a three-game win streak, which included handing the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces their second regular-season home loss since last year.

Phoenix's top newcomer Kahleah Copper reached a historic scoring streak for the team and WNBA, which earned her Western Conference Player of the Week honors .

Then things went in reverse for Phoenix. Its tandem Diana Taurasi and Copper had 28 and 32 against Dallas, respectively.

Dallas' top player Arike Ogunbowale dropped 40 points and three of their other starters scored in double digits on the Mercury. Also, Connecticut's top duo DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas filled out the stat sheet in addition to their combined 29 points, whereas Taurasi and Copper were held to a combined 13 points, 4-of-25, and 0-of-12 from the 3.

But it will take more than just Taurasi, Copper, Natasha Cloud and Sophie Cunningham for the short-handed Phoenix to prevent a three-game skid.

“It takes all of us. It’s a team effort. It’s not just one person who can shut it down. It’s about what’s on the court and everybody on the bench," Griner's replacement starting big Natasha Mack said after the Sun game. "Most of our team is still new. The chemistry, we’re still learning each other. It’s early in the season. All we can do is bounce back from that.”

Gasoline Rainbow: A pleasantly meandering Gen Z road trip from upcoming auteur siblings the Ross brothers

Its creators might be sick of the documentary-hybrid conversation, but it’s impossible to watch this without guessing about its nonfictional underpinnings.

road trip without a recipe

Bill and Turner Ross made a splash with Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets, a fly-on-the-wall “documentary” portrait of a Las Vegas dive bar that invited comparisons with the carefully curated Americana of the Maysles brothers. Except it wasn’t. The bar was located in the filmmakers’ native New Orleans. The clientele had not wandered in off the street. They were carefully cast to play versions of themselves. Leading man Michael, who repeatedly refers to himself as a failed actor, was Michael Martin, a Louisiana stage actor; Marc is local musician Marc Paradis.

The Ross brothers have stated they are sick of having the documentary-hybrid conversation. It’s impossible, however, to watch this freewheeling Gen-Z road movie without guessing about its nonfictional underpinnings.

Gasoline Rainbow, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, features a group of graduating high-schoolers who improvise scenes and use their own names – Micah, Nathaly, Nichole, Tony and Makai – as they embark on a carefree, 500-mile odyssey across Oregon. “We’re in this car,” says Nathaly. “We get to be ourselves and we don’t have to stay in the one place.”

They variously wander into woodland and punk parties, listen to Cypress Hill, lose their van, wander across hot asphalt and befriend a skater in a post-TikTok reprise of Easy Rider. They smoke weed and ponder Neil Armstrong’s return to Earth: “I was on the moon and now I’m in a grocery store ... how is that normal?”

Their improvised conversations keep leisurely pace with their spontaneous adventure. Straddling the current revival of the picaresque in US indie cinema (The Sweet East, Riddle of Fire) and cinéma vérité, this is a pleasing meander, skilfully directed, shot, and edited by the upcoming auteur siblings.
