The Complete Phillip Island Guide: The Day Trip From Melbourne You Can’t Miss

phillip island travel pass

Don’t just come for the penguin parade at sunset, here’s how to spend a full day out at Phillip Island! (Pst: Take S$20 off your Melbourne activities)

Spotted. The first group of penguins finally made an appearance on the flat sandy shores. “No flash lights please” the staff reminds the crowd for the zenith time.

Everyday without fail — just before the sunsets — the Little Penguins make their way home through the beaches of Phillip Island. As the skies get darker, more and more penguins emerge hurriedly. A few trip over each other, but most seem to know the way. Phillip Island for thousands of years have been home to the Eudyptula Minor — the tiniest penguins in the world.

Witnessing this spectacle definitely makes it to the top 5 things you need to experience when visiting Melbourne — it’s undisputedly adorable. But these aren’t the only cuties on Phillip Island. If you’re driving two hours out from Melbourne, this guide is about all the other amazing experiences you can look forward to in Phillip Island.

Getting from Melbourne to Phillip Island

Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes - Phillip Island Day Trip From Melbourne

*Pro-tip:  Get here before 8AM to save on parking and to capture the beach over Golden Hour. Parking between 8AM – 8PM is at AU$3.40/hour.

If you prefer somewhere a little quieter, St. Kilda’s beach is along the way too — if you’re lucky, you might even spot wild penguins here!

Feeling peckish? Stop by San Remo , just before crossing the bridge to Phillip Island for some fish & chips!

Phillip Island Itinerary

Penguin Parade - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

The itinerary below is best for the months between November and March when the penguins arrive between 8 – 8:45PM, giving you plenty of time to explore the rest of the island. If you’re travelling here outside this period, feel free to mix and match our itinerary around the Penguin Parade.

*Pro-tip:  Save up to S$50 by booking your Phillip Island combo pass  early. More details about the pass at the end!

10:30AM: The Pinnacle Lookout on Woolamai Beach

After two hours of driving, take a breather at the Woolamai beach . It’s a popular beach for surfers and if you’re up for the stroll, there’s a gorgeous lookout an hour’s walk from the beach carpark. We didn’t manage to make it but here’s what you can possibly expect!

The Pinnacles - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

1PM: Churchill Island

Churchill Heritage Farm - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

Entrance Fee:  AU$12.80 (The coastal walk is free) Opening Hours:  10AM – 5PM (last entry at 4:45PM)

3PM: EcoBoat Adventure Tour

Ecoboat Adventure boat - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

One of the best ways to see an island is perhaps around it and there’s no better fashion than on a fun, 90-minute speedboat! While our eyes were set on the penguin parade that evening, the EcoBoat Adventure took the cake for us (sorry penguins!).

Ecoboat Adventure Sea Rock - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

There’s another ride at 5PM too but the seas are usually too rough at that time to head out far where the seals are.

Cost: AU$85 ( ~S$65 via Klook . Also covered in the Phillip Island 5 Park Pass ) Boat departure:  3PM & 5PM

Fish & Chips at Tides of Rhyll Cafe

Tides of Rhyll Cafe - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

Depending on sea conditions for the day, the EcoBoat will set off from different jetties. Ours was headed out from Rhyll jetty so we stopped by Tides of Rhyll Cafe for some fish and chips.

A plated set of flake with chips or salad costs AU$14 but if you don’t mind eating out of a box, you can get a Flake for AU$7.50 and order a portion of minimum chips (enough to feed 2-3pax) for $4.

Opening Hours: 12PM – 8PM (Closed on Tues & Weds)  Address:  11 Beach Rd, Rhyll VIC 3923, Australia

5PM: Koala Conservation Centre

Koala Conservation - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

A 7-minute drive from Rhyll will bring you to Phillip Island’s very own Koala conservation centre . First stop, you’ll want to locate one of the two tree top broadwalks which allow you to come up close with the Koalas.

Koala Conservation Centre - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

They’ll probably be found either napping in the trees or snacking on eucalyptus leaves (quite rarely crawling around). Apart from Koalas, the six hectare bushland is also home to plenty of colourful native birds, wallabies and echidnas.

Entrance Fees:  AU$12.80 Opening Hours:  10AM – 6PM

6PM: Nobbies Antarctic Centre

Nobbies Antarctic journey - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

Last stop before the Penguins arrive on the beach, the Nobbies Antarctic Centre is on the westernmost end of Phillip Island and just 5 minutes from the Penguin parade. Included in the 4 park and 5 park Phillip Island passes , this interactive exhibition is filled with hands-on learning experiences about the Antarctic region and its residents.

Nobbies Antarctic Journey Thermal Imaging - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

Step into the Antarctic Chill Zone before checking out your thermal image to learn about how it compares to an Emperor penguin.

Nobbies Antarctic Journey Augmented Reality - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

Entrance Fee: AU$18 (~S$9 via Klook) Opening Hours:  10AM – 2 hours before sunset (Check the official opening times here)

7PM: Penguin Parade

Penguin parade General Viewing - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

For general viewing, the best seats are right at the bottom by the sand, at the sides. The penguins are said to always take the same route back to their homes and will probably walk to the sides where it leads to their burrows.

Penguin Parade - Phillip Island Guide: Day Trip From Melbourne

For a more up close experience, you can opt for the Penguin plus or Penguin underground ticket which is slightly less crowded and brings you to eye level of the Little Penguins.

Entrance Fees:   AU$25.70 (general viewing) — Pre-book your seats on Klook for competitive prices

Phillip Island Combo Ticket

If you’re planning to visit more than just the penguins, a popular option is the  3 Park Pass (AU$43.60)  which includes the Penguin Parade , Churchill Island as well as the Koala Conservation Centre ; these will cost AU$51 if bought individually at Phillip Island.

Ecoboat Adventure - Phillip island guide

However, a huge highlight for us on this trip was the EcoBoat Adventure tour which on it’s own can be quite pricy at AU$85. If the EcoBoat is something you’re up for, definitely get yourself the   5 Park Pass (AU$135.30)  which includes everything in the 3 Park Pass, along with access to  Nobbies Antarctic Centre and a ride on the EcoBoat Adventure .

*Pro-tip: Pre-book your Phillip Island Combo Ticket via Klook for 20% cheaper rates. Get an extra S$20 off experiences in Melbourne with the promo code < VISITMELB20 >

23 Best things to do in Phillip Island, Australia [By a Local]

Best things to do in Phillip Island - Cape Woolamai The Pinnacles granite

Phillip Island is a popular day-trip destination and perfect for a back-to-nature seaside getaway. Wondering what to do in Phillip Island? From penguins to whales, koalas to coastlines. This in-depth travel guide shows you all the best things to do in Phillip Island plus where to stay, how to get there, suggested itinerary, and essential travel tips. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your perfect trip to Phillip Island.

Phillip Island is famous for its pristine sandy beaches, rugged coastline, the unique Phillip Island Penguin Parade , and home to Australian’s largest Australian fur seals colony at The Nobbies, and sleepy koalas curled up in gum trees at the Koala Reserve. Let’s not forget it’s also where the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Superbike World Championship, and V8 Supercars take place each year.

Growing up on the nearby Mornington Peninsula , visiting Phillip Island was a regular occurrence when I was little. When you’re surrounded by iconic Australian wildlife and gorgeous beaches, you take it for granted. It wasn’t until a recent trip back home that I saw it through the eyes of a visitor. Travelling the world has given me a fresh perspective and a newfound appreciation for my home country and where I grew up. Phillip Island is a popular holiday destination amongst locals, yet it’s still a hidden gem to outsiders which is why I created this in-depth Phillip Island travel guide, so you can discover it too!

23 Best things to do in Phillip Island, Australia - Where to stay, how to get their, itinerary, travel tips

Phillip Island is located 120 kilometres from Melbourne just off Australia’s southern coast. The easy drive down takes just 90 minutes. At its widest point, Phillip Island is around 24 kilometres long and 9 kilometres wide which makes it easy to see and do a lot in a short amount of time. At most, it takes just 20 minutes to reach the far corner of this 101 km2 (39 sq mi) island.

23 Best things to do in Phillip Island, Australia

1. see the pelicans feeding at san remo beach.

Best things to do in Phillip Island - San Remo Fishmans Co-op Pelican Feeding

Stingrays in the water at San Remo foreshore

Every day at 12 noon, the San Remo Fishermans Co-Op feed a group of pelicans on the nearby foreshore. Overlooking the Phillip Island bridge, a flock of pelicans arrive early and patiently wait for one of the Co-Op’s fishermen to come out and give them a fishy snack.

This tradition started back in 1985 when pelicans started to come here to eat the unwanted fish offcuts that fishermen would throw overboard. Today, the pelican feeding is regulated by the Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning and is undertaken by well-trained staff.

The feeding lasts for about 10 minutes, during which the fisherman gives a short educational presentation that focuses on the Pelicans diet, lifestyle and how we can improve conservation and environmental efforts to protect them and similar species.

Keep an eye out on the water too because you may spot some large Stingrays which often glide through the shallow waters here.

Tips for seeing the Pelican’s feeding at San Remo Pier

  • Travel tips: I recommend arriving by 11:30 to ensure you get a car park. Use this time to wander along the pier and foreshore and pick up any litter you find on the beach. In the car park, there is a large pelican sculpture where you can place any bottle caps you pick up.
  • Admission : Free
  • Time: Daily at 12 noon
  • Address : 170 Marine Parade, San Remo VIC 3925, Australia

2. Have fish and chips at San Remo Fishermans Co-Op

Best things to do in Phillip Island - San Remo Fishermans Co-Op

Tips for visiting San Remo Fishermans Co-Op

  • Opening Hours: Open daily 10:30 – 20:00
  • Address: 170 Marine Parade, San Remo VIC 3925, Australia

3. See Cadillac Canyon at Bore Beach, San Remo

Best things to do in Phillip Island - Bore Beach

Bore Beach faces the Bass Strait which means the high waves and strong currents here make even the most skilled surfers think twice before taking to the water. This is definitely not a beach you should swim in.

Tips for visiting Bore Beach, San Remo

  • How to get to Bore Beach: Bore Beach is located at the end of a long dirt road. A staircase leads you down the hill to the beach.
  • Safety: The strong waves here are no joke. It wasn’t until AFTER I took this photo sitting on the edge of the canyon that I a local told me how several people have gone missing over the years at Bore Beach and other beaches in and around Phillip Island due to the deadly currents. Please be safe at all times.
  • Address : 145 Potters Hill Rd, San Remo VIC 3925, Australia

4. Walk along the Phillip Island Coastal Reserve and see Phillip Island Bridge

Best things to do in Phillip Island - Bridge with reflection

Tips for visiting Phillip Island Coastal Reserve

  • How to get to Phillip Island Coastal Reserve: Immediately after crossing over Phillip Island Bridge, turn left down Old Bridge Drive. This narrow road will lead you down the Phillip Island Caravan Park. There is a small public car park where you can park your car. From here, walk inside the caravan park’s main entrance and keep left. Look out for a sign that says “Beach Access”. Follow the path to the beach.
  • Address : 24 Old Bridge Dr, Newhaven VIC 3925, Australia

5. Ride “The Big Wave”

Ok, I have to admit that this one is a bit cheesy, but it’s kind of a tradition. The Big Wave is a giant wave sculpture that you stand inside of and pretend you’re riding a wave. Since it’s located on the main road as you arrive onto Phillip Island and it’s hard to miss, it’s an easy stop to make. There are two surf shops here and a cafe so you can always use that as an excuse to stop.

Address : 10 Phillip Island Rd, Newhaven VIC 3925, Australia

6. Visit the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory

7. Visit Churchill Island Heritage Farm and Churchill Island Farmers Market

Best things to do in Phillip Island - Churchill Island View over Western Port

Churchill Island is a bit like Inception as it’s an island located just off an island. Sitting just off Phillip Island’s northeast coast, Churchill Island is connected by a short single lane wooden bridge.

As you cross over onto the island, Cape Barren geese appear out of nowhere and block your passage, Highland cows rest in the shade, lazy windmill blades turn in the breeze, and friendly Clydesdale horses grazing in the fields.

Visiting the Churchill Island Heritage Farm is the perfect day out. Activities and educational demonstrations take place daily, including wagon rides, sheep shearing, working dogs, cow milking, and whip cracking.

One of the best ways to explore the island is by taking one of the two family-friendly walking trails. The 5-kilometre Churchill Island Loop is a great way to see the beautiful lush scenery and wildlife on the island and will take around 2 hours to complete. Alternatively, you can take the 2-kilometre North Point Loop which takes around an hour to complete.

I recommend arriving around lunchtime. Either bring a packed lunch and have a picnic or dine in the cafe with an outdoor seating area.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, the island hosts the Churchill Island Farmers Market with over 40 selling local produce grown and made in the Gippsland area.

8. Walk along Woolamai Surf Beach, Cape Woolamai

Best things to do in Phillip Island - Cape Woolamai Surf Beach

Cape Woolamai was named by George Bass who, after passing it on his whaleboat voyage in 1798 thought the headland resembled the head of a snapper fish. Having learned some of the language of the Eora aboriginal people of Port Jackson near Sydney, Bass used the Eora’s word for this fish to name the cape.

Woolamai Surf Beach stretches for approximately 5 kilometres and provides ideal surfing conditions. It’s also popular with windsurfers.

Free things to do on Phillip Island

While on holiday in Victoria, all activities on Phillip Island can add up quickly. It is always a great idea to incorporate some of the free things to do in Phillip Island to even out your holiday on Phillip Island.

Pelican feeding at San Remo

At 12 noon daily the co-op sends down a bucket of fish to feed the local pelicans. You will know it is going to happen when suddenly you see a large number of pelicans making their way to the shore.

Pelican birds on the beach at Rhyll waiting to be feed

*While you are there, spend some time watching the giant stingrays glide through the water from the banks in the shallows or from above on the jetty, which is one of the best free things to do in Phillip Island.

S.S. Speke Shipwreck

This is a low tide activity on Phillip Island. The S.S. Speke ship was caught on the rocks of Kitty Millers Bay back in 1906 (although some say 1905), and now only a tiny amount remains.

You can park in the car park at Kitty Millers Bay and walk either over the rocks or along the headland before heading down to see the wreck.

Phillip Island Beaches

For some visitors to Phillip Island, they are only worried about the Phillip Island Beaches. Whether you want to sunbathe, swim, or learn to surf, there is a beach on Philip Island. Phillip Island has some of the best beaches in Victoria for surfing.

  • Kitty Millers Bay (kid-friendly)
  • Smiths Beach (surfing, kid-friendly)
  • Cowes Beach (kid-friendly)
  • Ryhll (fishing, kid-friendly)

Cape Woolami at Phillip Island

Fishing on Phillip Island

Casting a rod is one of the best things on Phillip Island. Many will take a fishing rod to Phillip Island with them and try their luck with either surf fishing, off the shore or on a jetty. This is one of the best things to do in Phillip Island that is free and possibly catches you dinner!

9 Things To Do On Your Phillip Island Weekend Getaway

phillip island travel pass

So many times we headed West road-tripping along the Great Ocean Road , but this time, this time we headed East to a small island, Phillip Island. And in less than 3 days we discovered more than 10 things to do on a Phillip Island weekend getaway.

Located about 90 minutes southeast from Melbourne,  Phillip Island  is easily accessible by car. There is a short bridge that connects the mainland to Phillip Island. Alternatively, you can find any number of day tours catering to the mountains of tourists heading to the island.

phillip island travel pass

Surprisingly the island is chock full of things to do. So don’t take a day trip, go for the weekend. Longer if you can.

As soon as you are on the island navigation is simple, with well laid out signs everywhere. If you head to the Visitors Centre you can pick up a free map along with a 4  Parks Family Pass .  Phillip Island Nature Parks had invited us to try out their 4 Parks Family Pass  for 2 adults and 2 children. The pass costs AUD$146.90 and provides entry to the 4 most popular attractions on the island – the Antartic Journey, the Penguin Parade, Churchill Island and the Koala Conservatory.

But there is more than just 4 things to do on Phillip Island!

Family Fun Accommodation

Cost: check pricing at anchor belle, location: 272 church street, cowes, time: we stayed for 2 nights.

Located right outside Cowes is Anchor Belle Holiday Park . Perfect for the whole family . We were offered a 2 bedroom self-contained unit. We had 3 kids in one room with twin bunk beds and 2 adults in the other room. It had a small kitchen, which was perfect for keeping costs down during your travel. We ate breakfast and several other meals here. The TV was small, so don’t plan any massive movie nights.

The grounds are what drew us. We barely saw the kids as they flittered from one activity to the other. Jumping pillow, heated pool, arcade room, games room with pool tables, ping pong and foosball. Plus, we could walk to the beach!

Location: Everywhere, it’s an island!

Time: as long as you like.

Kids love the beach. They can play for hours and never get bored. Phillip Island is no different. We walked to the beach, where the kids wrestled, swam and even boogey boarded down a fake sand dune.

phillip island travel pass

The Nobbies

Location: located on ventnor road, time: the short boardwalk circuit was less than 15 minutes. the longer can take up to an hour..

Located on the western part of Phillip Island, overlooking the Bass Strait, the Nobbies is a magnificent headland boasting spectacular clifftop boardwalks, an interactive Antartic Journey, an explosive blowhole, and an outcrop of rocks called Seal Rocks, home to the largest colony of  Australian fur seals in the country.

The Nobbies Centre closes approximately one hour before sunset each day to protect the native wildlife.

phillip island travel pass

Antarctic Journey

Cost: part of the 4 park pass, location: located on ventnor road at the nobbies, time: we whizzed through in about an hour.

Located inside the Nobbies Centre, this is a fun and interactive journey into the wonderful world of the Southern Ocean and Antarctica.

The biggest hits with our 9, 10 and 11-year-olds were the microscopes were they discovered what their skin really looks like. Plus, the Antarctic Chill Zone where after exiting they compared their thermal images to Emperor penguins and each other.

Further in is a Chamber full of floor to ceiling multimedia experiences. The kids felt like they were at SeaWorld on one screen where they could see themselves interact with orcas, seals, and penguins.

Churchill Island Heritage Farm

Location: connected by a bridge on the northeast side of phillip island, time: leave at least 2 hours from 1 – 3pm for the best activities.

How can I describe this? It’s like taking a step back in time. A period where life was simpler and hands were rough and tough. My partner kept saying it was a time he wishes he had been born in.

Churchill Island is the site of the first European garden in Victoria. As the first farm in Victoria, its pioneering history is still evident today.

You can wander through the old homestead and see how life was like pre-TV and internet. The kids loved the fashion, but most of all they loved discovering the ways of the olden days with the daily heritage farming activities.

phillip island travel pass

We spent time on a wagon ride around the paddock, the kids giggled at the grossness of milking a cow, we watched a sheep sheerer and laughed as adults attempted to crack a whip.

Sure it’s a little touristy and visitors uninterested in Australian history may find it dull, but the scenery is yesteryear idyllic and kids will love getting up close to the animals. There are so many animals to touch and cluck at. Tall, handsome Clydesdale horses, Highland cattle, sheep, birds, pigs and more.

phillip island travel pass

Koala Conservation Centre

Location: 1810 phillip island rd, phillip island, time: about an hour.

I’ll be honest, having seen koalas in the wild and captivity in several other locations around Australia , I wasn’t expecting much. However, this was a really beautiful part of the island and I was pleasantly surprised.

We literally had opportunities to come ‘face to face’ with koalas via a network of treetop boardwalks that have been created so you can witness the koalas in their natural habitat.

phillip island travel pass

If there is no one around taking pictures and ooing or ahhing then look for the small red dots placed around the railings to show you where the last sightings were. Some of the koalas are high up, but we were lucky enough to spot many at face level or even crawling across the ground.

phillip island travel pass

Wild wallabies, the adorable little cousins of kangaroos, can be spotted in the bushland. As well as echidnas and bats.

The visitor centre offers hot food and souvenirs, as well as a small yet informative hands-on educational display promoting awareness and conservation about Australia’s beautiful wildlife.

New Adventure Boat Tour

Cost: family pass approx $235, location: tour departs from either cowes or rhyll jetty, time: 90 minutes.

The kids and I did this the last time we were in Phillip Island in 2015. Unfortunately, the day we went there was menacing grey clouds and foamy waves tossing to and fro. Nevertheless, we decided nothing would stop our  Eco Boat Tour  and hopped on board at the Cowes Jetty located at the end of Thompson Avenue.

This adrenaline-laced thrill ride let us experience rugged coastlines and remote wildlife that can’t be reached any other way.

It would definitely be a much better ride on a clear sunny day. But on a stormy day with angry waves taller than a house pounding the boat, and winds strong enough to blow a small child over, it was almost terrifying. The kids were frozen to the bone and Mia (6 years) started crying due to the ferocity of the waves that tossed the boat. Caius (4 years) on the other hand was quite nonchalant the whole trip.

We did finally reach the Australian fur seal colony and were able to stand and watch the seals absolutely oblivious to the storm, diving in and out of the water and sunbathing on the rocks. They were so beautiful and a joy to watch.

I was told on a clear day you can also spot whales, dolphins, and penguins from the boat, but not on the day we went. The staff pointed out the features of our surroundings and shared information about the different wildlife we spotted.

The return trip was smoother as we rode with the swell rather than against it. I almost kissed the ground when we disembarked. It was a relief to be on solid ground again. Recommend this trip, but take it on a beautiful sunny Australian day.

Phillip Island Chocolate Factory

Cost: free to visit, however, the amazing world of chocolate is $50 for a family pass (2 adults, 2 kids), location: 930 phillip island rd, newhaven, time: about 1 hour is enough chocolate to make you sick.

The grounds are not as great or vast as the Yarra Valley chocolate factory or the Great Ocean Road one, but the Amazing World of Chocolate is, for lack of a better word, amazing. So don’t skimp out on it.

Sideshow alley was a hit where you can play old school skill testers to win wooden balls, which you exchange for chocolate. In another room, a penguin will grab you a chocolate button. Plus the making of chocolate and the history of it makes it an educational stop too.

After we had frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, which was delicious and messy.

Penguin Parade

Location: 1019 ventnor rd, summerlands, time: between 2 – 3 hours.

I bet you didn’t know that the smallest penguins in the world could be found in Australia – the Blue Penguins. These cute creatures are about 33cm in height and also referred to as Fairy Penguins or Little Penguins. And each night they waddle home out of the cold scary ocean to their warm pint-sized burrows on Phillip Island, Victoria.

phillip island travel pass

This has to be the highlight of the island. Every evening large crowds gather on the Summerlands at sunset to quietly witness the smallest penguins in the world timidly return home.

You can stay inside the visitor’s centre where it’s nice and warm and then about an hour before sunset the doors to the beach open and the crowds flock to secure prime vantage spots. Try sitting on the beach at the front or to the right for best vantage.

phillip island travel pass

The wait can be tedious for young kids as the penguins do wait until all natural light has gone before venturing to the shores.

As soon as the first penguins reached the edge of the waves, the silent crowd broke into a collective “awwwwwww”. These tiny, flightless birds stood apprehensively, cautiously watching the sky for any signs of predators, such as Sea Gulls or Eagles. At the slightest sound, they got spooked and hastily retreated into the sea with a mad dash and flailing of wings. It was absolutely adorable. Finally, once the dark was in full force, groups of penguins reached the beach and began pouring out in droves, heading inland to their homes.

But let me tell you a secret. You don’t have to sit on the beach and wait for those little penguins to stream out of the sea. The beachfront seating area is not the best seat in the house – the boardwalk was! On the boardwalk leading back towards the visitor’s centre you could spot any number of little penguins waddling by in their packs or on their lonesome towards their burrows (and sometimes a special someone waiting patiently). They looked so much braver in the dunes, compared to their nervous performance on the beach.

Top Tips For The Penguin Parade

  • Wear really warm clothes. It gets cold out on the beach at night. Better yet bring blankets. I mean it – it’s cold. We have been in summer and autumn and both were chilly. Kids wore two jackets and a beanie in the middle of summer.
  • Bring umbrellas or ponchos. Check the weather forecast the day before so you can be prepared.
  • Bring something to sit on. The beachside concrete stepped seating is cold and hard. Bring a picnic blanket to sit on or if you want a little luxury for your backside, an outdoor cushion.
  • No photos. The penguins can be very timid. Not to mention bright lights can seriously damage their eyes. So there is absolutely no photography or videography allowed (including mobile phones).
  • Don’t worry about going early to get front row seating. The best view is on the boardwalk once the penguins have come out of the water and are waddling to their homes.
  • Even if you start getting drowsy by the end of a big day on your Phillip Island getaway don’t miss those darling fairy penguins. They are so darn adorable. We all just wanted to hold them and squish their little cheeks.
