Per quattro giorni, dall’ 11 al 14 maggio , di Torino si trasforma nella Capitale mondiale della Magia per la XXI edizion e del Master of Magic World Tour 2023 : un festival interamente dedicato all’arte dell’illusionismo che porta nel capoluogo alcuni tra i migliori maghi del mondo.

Sotto la direzione artistica di Walter Rolfo , la Convention si divide quest’anno tra due prestigiose location del contesto museale-culturale torinese: il Mauto Museo dell’automobile e il Teatro Alfieri dove i migliori illusionisti del pianeta si esibiranno nel Gran Gala Show del Masters of Magic World Tour 2023.

Oltre 50 star internazionali e più di 1500 illusionisti professionisti provenienti da tutto il mondo sono attesi tra gli ospiti dell’edizione che vanta, tra i nomi più rilevanti, un cast d’eccezione: Yu Hojin, Alain Choquette, Raul Cremona, C.Y., Dani DaOrtiz, Hannah, Axel Hecklau, Michel Huot, Léa Kyle, Miguel Muñoz, Luis Olmedo, Andrea Paris, Víctor Piña, Florian Sainvet, Tempei Arakawa, Young Min, Francesco Fontanelli, Walter Maffei, Jack Nobile, Hyde, Mario Raso e molti altri artisti di fama mondiale.

Una maratona di oltre 100 ore consecutive di magia e spettacolo dal vivo, di pura emozione e di felicità per un’edizione che segna l’inizio di un triennio all’insegna della magia per il capoluogo piemontese che, grazie alla nomina di Masters of Magic come ente promotore e organizzatore, ospiterà il Campionato Europeo FISM nel 2024 e il Campionato Mondiale FISM nel 2025 . 

A rendere magica la città di Torino, in attesa dell’appuntamento del Gran Gala Show nel weekend, ci penserà la Convention 2023 . L’appuntamento internazionale, dedicato in esclusiva agli appassionati di magia, torna dal vivo al MAUTO - Museo internazionale dell’automobile di Torino da mercoledì 11 a domenica 14 maggio 2023 .

Fin dalla sua prima edizione ha ospitato i più importanti maghi del mondo – tra i quali David Copperfield, Dynamo, David Blaine, Cyril Takayama – e quest’anno apre le porte del mistero e dei segreti degli illusionisti per coinvolgere tutti i partecipanti in una vera maratona di oltre 50 eventi, tra workshop, concorsi, performance, conferenze e lezioni di magia per imparare a diventare maghi e affinare i propri trucchi!

Ma non solo, perché tutti coloro che parteciperanno alla Convention potranno inoltre immergersi anche nella “ Fiera magica ”: uno spazio dedicato agli “inventori di magie” dove sarà possibile acquistare ogni tipo di illusione e prestigio, dal filo dell’invisibilità ad ogni novità del mercato della magia.

Non mancheranno nomi del calibro di Yu Hojin , il campione del mondo FISM 2012 e artista di fama mondiale, il mago Raul Cremona tra i più seguiti e amati d’Italia, il mentalista e concorrente di Italia’s Got Talent 2019 Andrea Paris , il campione europeo di cartomagia Francesco Fontanelli , il giovane duo di talento Jack Nobile & Hyde .

Al TEATRO ALFIERI A IL GRAN GALA DELLA MAGIA

Atteso l’appuntamento, il Gran Gala Show , il più importante spettacolo di magia del mondo, è in programma da venerdì 12 maggio a domenica 14 maggio al Teatro Alfieri.

Un Family Show - condotto da Walter Rolfo, con la regia e lo show design di Alessandro Marrazzo - che vedrà protagonisti nove straordinari illusionisti di fama internazionale , giunti in città per il Masters of Magic World Tour Convention.

Un’occasione unica per ammirare dal vivo tutto il meglio della magia internazionale lasciandosi affascinare dai prestigi più impossibili e le performance più stupefacenti dei nuovi talenti del panorama dell’illusionismo.

Due ore di pura meraviglia e stupore con un cast d’eccezione: il campione del mondo Hojin Yu , con la sua magia capace di combinare poesia, delicatezza, ed effetti potenti; C.Y. una delle leggende della nuova generazione di maghi Coreani; il campione mondiale di manipolazione Florian Sainvet , Hannah , giovane illusionista giapponese già vincitrice di numerosi tornei internazionali di magia, Léa Kyle , finalista di America’s got talent e resident a Las Vegas, il mago di Tim Burton, campione europeo e mondiale Miguel Munoz ; Tempei, star internazionale delle arti circensi e Young Min , anche lui campione mondiale di magia celebre per l’unicità delle sue performance con la sabbia.

Masters of Magic World Tour è anche una palestra per nuovi giovani talenti, che possono dimostrare le proprie abilità concorrendo al premio internazionale “ Trofeo Victor Balli ”, dedicato alla memoria del principe dei maghi italiani e fra i più importanti riconoscimenti al mondo.

Il festival contribuisce a supportare anche la scena nazionale ospitando il Campionato Italiano di magia : i concorrenti sono selezionati durante l’anno in tutte le città d’Italia per poi concorrere e sfidarsi nel Gran Finale all'interno delle categorie Stage e Close-up . Negli anni è stato vinto da artisti diventati famosi, come Andrew Basso protagonista di uno spettacolo resident a Broadway e Vanni De Luca, uno dei mentalisti più bravi al mondo.

Tra gli altri importanti premi, da ricordare il prestigioso riconoscimento “Grolla d’Oro”, che consacra i migliori artisti, geni dell'illusione e personalità carismatiche che hanno contribuito ad ampliare le frontiere dell'arte magica a livello internazionale. Quest’anno verrà assegnato al campione del mondo coreano Yu Hojin.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been named WST Player of the Year after winning five titles during the 2023/24 season, including the Masters and UK Championship; it's the first time since 2014 he collects the prestigious award

Ronnie O'Sullivan has been named World Snooker Tour player of the year for the first time in 10 years after winning five titles during the season, including the Masters and UK Championship.

'The Rocket' also won the Shanghai Masters, World Grand Prix and Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker during a prolific season, collecting the main award for the first time since 2014.

Essex cueman O'Sullivan also won the Fans' Player of the Year and Journalists' Player of the Year categories.

MOCS Postseason Begins This Weekend

It’s time once again to qualify players for the next Magic Online Champions Showcase on January 13 th ! Over the next two weekends, Top 8 finishers from Showcase Challenges and 5-win players from Last Chance events will battle until one remains as this season’s Showcase Champion for that format.

In addition to reaching the Champions Showcase (with its $70,000 prize pool and two Worlds invitations) , the winner of each Showcase Qualifier is invited to Pro Tour Thunder Junction plus the Regional Championship round in early 2024 feeding that event. Leaderboard Points are also on the line as players seek one of two At-Large invites at the end of the postseason.

NOTE: Legacy and Pioneer are swapped from their normal positions to avoid conflicts with tabletop’s Eternal Weekend.

If you did not reach the Showcase Qualifier stage, your chance to reach the Showcase will be the weekend of December 16-17 in the Showcase Opens – events featuring The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Limited where the winner earns a Showcase invitation.

Cosmium Neon Ink Bundles On Sale

MTGO debuted a fabulous new premium treatment on the Cosmium Neon Ink versions of Mana Crypt and Cavern of Souls. The time for collecting them is almost here!

The Cosmium Neon Ink Bundle sells for $20 USD and includes 1 premium foil copy of each of the two cards. Five different neon colors are available – one will be selected at random, then both cards of that color will be added to your Collection. Red is the rarest at 10%, then purple (15%), blue (20%), green (25%), and yellow is most common (30%).

This Bundle goes on sale in the MTGO Store starting next Monday, November 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (18:00 UTC) and will be available until the release of Murders at Karlov Manor in February. Cards obtained from this Bundle will not appear in Treasure Chests nor be available to use in any forms of All-Access.

A popular stream for watching Pro players try their hand at an Alt-Vintage Cube is coming to the MTGO Twitch channel starting this week! Designed by Gavin Thompson-Exner – AlphaFrog himself – the Cube has been a place for some of the biggest names in Magic to show off, goof around, and compete against their peers.

Every Tuesday at 1 p.m. PT (21:00 UTC) , a single pod of eight will draft and then battle on stream. Gavin will be joined by Anuraag Das for the commentary. The four survivors with winning records after three rounds will be invited back the next week to take on new challengers. This eight-part limited series runs until January 23 rd , so mark your calendar!

Today’s first episode is literally stacked with talent – TWO World Champions, Two Hall-of-Famers, Three PT-Level Event Winners, and the Super League Champion. Just look at these names:

Jean-Emmanuel Depraz, Nathan Steuer, Luis Scott-Vargas, Reid Duke, Eli Kassis, Luis Salvatto, Kyle Rose, and Corey Baumeister – what a group!

On top of that, this will be our Spotlight Cube in Magic Online for two weeks starting next Wednesday, December 6 – mimic the Pros or forge your own path.

PREMIER PLAY  

End of mocs qp season approaching.

The cutoff to earn MOCS Qualifier Points for this season is tomorrow, November 29 at 9 a.m. Pacific time (17:00 UTC ). As a reminder, leftover Season 3 QPs will be usable to enter Vintage Cube during its Holidays run from December 20-January 3.

MOCS Last Chance Events Wrapping Up

Did you fall just short of a Top 8 Showcase Challenge finish? Did you scrape together that 39 th and 40 th Qualifier Point at the last second? If so, your ticket to the upcoming Showcase Qualifiers could be earned in a Last Chance Event!

Until 9 a.m. PT tomorrow, all Preliminaries in Modern, Legacy, Standard, and Pioneer convert to Last Chance Events. Finish with a 5-0 record in that event to earn an Entry Token to that format’s Showcase Qualifier in December.

Entry options require both 40 Qualifier Points plus either 30 Event Tickets or 300 Play Points.

Premier Play Schedule through March Now Live

We have now filled in event dates and times for the next season of MOCS and Regional Championship qualifying on the Premier Play calendar. This includes a Week of Super Qualifiers over the holidays that will cover the end of one RC qualifying season and the start of the next season.

NOTE: Some previously announced events have been moved or qualify for a different RC.

The 2024 MOCS Season will be unchanged from the 2023 Season in its basic structure. We have been very pleased with the overall increase in participation this year and we want to stick to a winning formula – thank you to the thousands of players who’ve taken part in our Premier Play!

To reflect this, we have updated the Premier Play URLs to remove 2023 – no need to worry, your existing bookmarks will link just fine.

EVENTS UPDATE

Sunday pauper challenge promoted to 64-player level.

Our Pauper community has shown up consistently for the Sunday Challenge event at 10 a.m. PT (18:00 UTC) . To reward this and encourage growth, the Sunday Pauper Challenge will jump up to the 64-player event structure starting this week – 64 players will be required to fire the event, and prizes will pay down to 64 th place!

UI IMPROVEMENT  

Pop out the prompt box  .

Have you ever wanted an easier way to tell what to do next? For most of MTGO’s existence, the Prompt Box has been hanging out on the left side of the screen displaying the action needed to progress the game. Starting with tomorrow’s patch, that box will become an item that can be popped out and moved to a different portion of the screen.  

To do this, hover over the Prompt Box and a pop-out arrow will appear – similar to the Game Log and Chat windows          

The resulting window will float onto the battlefield – from where you can move it. Maybe it works better for you in the bottom-right corner of your view. Perhaps you’re a streamer and want to more easily re-arrange the display of the game – here's another tool for that! It can also be popped back into its original position if you decide that’s best.  

ALTERNATE PLAY  

Supreme masters draft starts tomorrow.

We’ve got a treat for this week – it's Supreme Masters Draft! This Phantom experience starts with a single-player draft. Select two cards, then that pack goes away. Repeat that until you have 36 cards in your pool, build a draft deck, then play up to three matches.

The gimmick here is that we’re drafting all Horizons, Masters, Remasters, and “Event” sets released in paper (sorry Masters Edition I-IV – not this time) .

Entry options are 10 Event Tickets or 100 Play Points, and prizes are the same as normal Phantom Leagues. Each entry will see one booster from each of the following sets (cards won’t be added to Collections) :

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Murders at Karlov Manor . Each description mentions whether the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (18:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• November 29-December 6 – The two-pick-and-toss-em format returns – it’s Supreme Masters Draft ! Encompassing 18 packs that span most Modern-era Masters sets, all the Remastereds, both Horizons, and the three event sets (Hour of Devastation, War of the Spark, March of the Machine) , the power level of this League will be very high. • December 6-20 – The Cube Spotlight shifts to one of the top Cubes played on streams – Gavin Thompson-Exner's AlphaFrog Cube ! This alt-Vintage Cube zigs where the regular Cube zags. (Phantom)
• December 20-January 24 – Vintage Cube returns for the Holidays Festival ! Like last year, this will be a five-week run that supports competitors testing for the MOCS Season 3 Showcase (Jan. 13, twitch.tv/officialmagiconline & twitch.tv/magic) . Creative Director Ryan Spain will have a whole new package of changes ready to delight all MTGO players. (Phantom)
• January 17-February 6 – Ravnica Remastered will be in the spotlight with a Draft League that overlaps the last week of Vintage Cube . (Keeper)

Format Challenges are the first step toward qualifying for Premier Play through your favorite Magic formats and provide excellent prizes for those looking to test their mettle in their favorite formats. Learn more about Premier Play qualification to get started today.

Magic Online 's Format Challenges run as shown on the schedule below.

On weekends featuring Showcase Challenge events, the Format Challenge that starts at either 6 a.m., 8 a.m., or 10 a.m. Pacific time is pre-empted by the Showcase Challenge; Format Challenges scheduled at other times remain in place.

• The number in the title represents the minimum fire size and the lowest place to receive prizes.
• In MOCS Season 1, Standard and Pauper Challenges are never pre-empted.
• 32-Player Limited Challenge events are 6 rounds with no playoff

• Duel Scene | The Prompt Box will be movable and dockable like the Chat, Game Log, and other windows (see UI Improvements section above)

• Chat notifications from non-Buddies will no longer appear when the In-Game Chat: Allow Only Buddies box is checked  

Card Fixes  

• Sliver tokens from Sliver Hive will correctly only trigger abilities once  
• Sacred Ground will correctly not trigger on actions not controlled by an opponent (legend rule, combat damage, etc)  
• Bronzebeak Foragers’ activated ability will work as expected

Invited Competitors

2023 World Championship XXIX is an invitation-only tournament. Invitations to 2023 World Championship XXIX are awarded as follows:

• The Top 4 finishers at Magic World Championship XXVIII.
• Competitors that finished with 36 or more match points at the end of the Swiss rounds or the top eight (8) finishing competitors (whichever is greater) in each Pro Tour in the 2022-2023 Season.
• The top two (2) finishers from each Regional Championship from the United States, Europe, and Japan regions in the 2022-2023 season
• The top finisher from each Regional Championship from all other regions in the 2022-2023 season
• The top two (2) finishers from each Arena Championship designated to award invitations to World Championship XXIX.
• The top two (2) finishers from each Magic Online Champions Showcase designated to award invitations to World Championship XXIX.
• The top 32 ranked competitors that are not already invited to World Championship XXIX in the Pro Tour The Lord of the Rings Adjusted Match Point standing and all players tied with 32 nd place in that standing
• Competitors that are otherwise invited to 2023 World Championship XXIX.

Competitor Information

Standard decklists will be due in MTGMelee on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 12:00 PM (Las Vegas local time). To see the equivalent time where you are located, click here .

During the Standard rounds, opponents' decklists will be available for viewing on MTGMelee on your mobile device. Competitors can only access the decklists of other players prior to the start of a game or in between games. Competitors cannot reference decklists during games.

During the Booster Draft rounds, only competitors from the featured draft table will have access to their opponent's decklist. These will be a paper checklist.

The estimated hours of operation for 2023 World Championship XXIX are:

• Friday & Saturday: Hall opens at 8:00 AM and closes at the end of the last Swiss round.
• Sunday: Hall opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 7:00 PM

Note: The opening times on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are for World Championship competitors ONLY. The public will be able to enter the World Championship section of MagicCon only when the show opens each day.

Registration

In-person registration takes place from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at a location to be determined (details will be provided to players at a later date). If you are unable to attend this registration session on Thursday, late registration will be available Friday morning from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM.

Even though competitors will have registered for the tournament on MTGMelee prior to Thursday, competitors must still register on-site to confirm they are in Las Vegas, undergo an ID check, and receive their complementary Pro Tour gifts.

For in-person registration, all competitors must present one of the following forms of identification:

• a driver's license; or
• a passport; or
• a copy of a birth certification and photo ID (school IDs are acceptable)

Tournament Information

The Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules and Infraction & Penalty Guide are in effect for this tournament unless specifically overruled by information in this section.

Structure (Swiss Rounds)

• Friday: 3 rounds of Wilds of Eldraine Booster Draft, followed by 4 rounds of Standard Constructed.
• Saturday: 3 rounds of Wilds of Eldraine Booster Draft, followed by 4 rounds of Standard Constructed.
• 14 Swiss Rounds total, 50 minutes per round.
• All competitors may participate in all 7 Swiss rounds of Friday's competition.
• Competitors with twelve (12) or more match points after Round 7 will advance to Saturday's portion of the competition.
• Whenever a competitor reaches ten (10) match wins before round 14, they immediately advance to the Top 8 playoff and are removed from future pairings in Swiss rounds.
• The round in which a competitor received their 10th win.
• Their OMW%, GW%, and OGW% as of the round in which they receive their 10th match win.
• Seeding for the Top 8 playoff is locked after each round in which a competitor reaches their 10th win.
• The top 8 competitors after Round 14 will advance to Sunday's single-elimination playoff rounds.

Structure (Playoff Rounds)

• Playoff rounds will use a traditional, single-elimination bracket.
• Playoff rounds will run in the Standard Constructed format.
• All playoff matches will be best 3 out of 5. The first two games played in each playoff match are pre-sideboard games. After Game 2 is complete, competitors may exchange cards from their deck for cards in their sideboard.
• Standings after the Swiss rounds will be used to determine final order in the standings for losing competitors in the quarterfinal and semifinal playoff rounds.
• While there are no time limits in the playoff rounds, competitors are expected to play at a reasonable pace and finish their matches within 90 minutes.
• For the first game of each match in the playoff rounds, the competitor that finished higher in the Swiss rounds chooses either to play first or to play second. For subsequent games in each playoff match, the usual Play/Draw rule applies (loser of the previous game decides whether to play first in the next game).

Other Items

• Rules Enforcement Level: Professional
• Competitors must use the same Standard deck for Day 1, Day 2, and the Top 8 playoff
• Competitors are responsible for knowing all tournament rules
• Competitors are responsible for bringing their own appropriate counters and tokens

Competitors that finish in the Top 8 will receive invitations to each Pro Tour and the World Championship in the 2023-2024 Season.

There is a $1,000,000 prize pool, which is awarded to competitors based on their final standing in the tournament. All prizes are displayed in U.S Dollars. Prizes are subject to change.

First place will receive $100,000. All competitors will receive $4000 regardless of the final placing.

World Snooker Championship 2024: Final score and full tournament results

Kyren Wilson is the new world champion of snooker .

Jak Jones was defeated 18-14 at The Crucible as the World Snooker Championship crowned Wilson for the first time.

Jones had scraped away at an early 7-1 deficit but lost out in a dramatic black ball climax to the final frame of the day which let 12th seed Wilson off the hook and heading into Monday's concluding session with an 11-6 lead.

Despite Welsh qualifier Jones winning the first frames of the second day to make a fight of the final, errors crept into his game and Wilson made use of a commanding lead to seal the trophy.

World Snooker Championship 2024 prize money

The total prize pot this year is worth more than £2.3million, with the winner set to pocket £500,000 of that overall fund.

The runner-up will take home £200,000, while the players beaten in the semi-finals will still claim £100,000.

Quarter-finalists get £50,000, while those knocked out in the second round receive £30,000. First-round losers still take home £20,000, while there is a £15,000 reward for the highest break.

An extra bonus will see any player who manages to make two maximum 147 breaks across two of this season’s Triple Crown events - the World Championship, Masters and UK Championship - get a cool £147,000.
