Throwing Copper reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold, with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year.” Secret Samadhi (1997) immediately shot to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling The Distance to Here (1999) turned +LIVE+ into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. +LIVE+ has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut. The band released an acclaimed five-song EP in 2018, LOCAL 717, their first new music in over a decade.

THIRD EYE BLIND “ Summer Gods Tour 2024” with special guests Yellowcard & A R I Z O N A

Third Eye Blind is excited to announce the fourth edition of the Summer Gods Tour. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will include Pine Knob Music Theatre with special guests Yellowcard and A R I Z O N A on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. Pine Knob Music Theatre is presented by Proud Partners United Wholesale Mortgage, Trinity Health and Ally.

“I have this sense that I am feeling the same way everybody else is—that we need a summer tour so badly, like more than ever,” says Stephan Jenkins. “We need the lights, the noise, the heat and everybody up close to each other, singing as one. Can't wait."

“Third Eye Blind self-titled is a masterclass in songwriting that blew all of our minds when it released in 1997,” says Ryan Key of Yellowcard. “As 90s kids we were gifted with so much incredible music in our formative years and we are all such massive fans of the band because of that record. It doesn’t feel real yet that we will be sharing the stage with one of our all time favorite bands every night this summer.”

This tour announcement follows last week’s release of the new music video for current rock single “Dead Don’t Die,”  a rousing declaration of survival and an anthem about the resilience of the human spirit after trying times, written by guitarist Zach Myers about front man Brent Smith. The cinematic video, filmed in London, was  directed by   Lewis Cater.   PRESS HERE  to watch.

The  Planet Zero   album   debuted in the  Top 5 on the Billboard 200 Chart and the Official UK Albums Chart,  and at  #1 on six other Billboard charts  including  Top Album Sales, Rock, Hard Rock, and Alternative Albums Charts . Featuring searing and incisive tracks like   “Dead Don’t Die”   and #1 rock hit  “Planet Zero” ,   as well as uplifting and unifying songs like the  soaring pop-rock anthem and #1 rock hit  “Daylight”  and  “A Symptom Of Being Human,”   Planet Zero  boldly   confronts the societal forces that perpetuate divisiveness while offering a restorative path forward through empathy and open conversation – ultimately serving as a reminder that it is our human connections that matter the most.   The band’s video for “Daylight,” set to the Amazon Original version of the song,  is a love letter to their fans and shows the impact that the song’s message – that you are never alone – had during Shinedown’s sold-out Planet Zero World Tour.  PRESS HERE   to watch.

TOOL 2024 European tour kickoff: See setlist and video

tool-screen-shot-2024-05-25-at-9.25.13-pm.jpg, Instagram @freakshotfilm

Tonight (May 25th) in Hanover, Germany, TOOL kicked off their 2024 European tour with a characteristically third-eye-opening show at the ZAG-Arena.

The prog-metal titans hadn't played a full set since February, but did assemble onstage just last month for a surprise performance of "Ænema" — with Primus frontman Les Claypool sharing vocals with Maynard James Keenan — at the Hollywood Bowl stop of Keenan's Sessanta tour.

"Ænema" didn't make an appearance at TOOL's Hanover show, but plenty of oldies did, including Undertow' s "Intolerance" and "Flood."

Check out the full 11-song setlist (courtesy of Setlist.fm ), as well as fan-filmed footage of the final song, "Stinkfist" (the only song during which cameras were allowed), below.

The Rolling Stones Really Might Never Stop

During a 19-song set at MetLife Stadium that spanned 60 years, the band tapped into what seems like a bottomless well of rock ’n’ roll energy.

Mick Jagger, dressed in all black with a sequined vest, stands center stage and points out with his left index finger. He is flanked by guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, with drummer Steve Jordan behind them all.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Reporting from East Rutherford, N.J.

“This song’s for Manhattan!” Mick Jagger told the crowd on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium, before launching into a punchy rendition of “Shattered,” that agitated ode to late-70s New York City that closes out the band’s 1978 album “Some Girls.” In the ensuing 46 years, the city has changed in some superficial ways but somehow remained essentially the same — much, as they showed throughout an impressively energetic two-hour set, like the Rolling Stones.

The Stones’ first New York-area stadium gig in five years was sponsored, without a hint of irony, by AARP. It was appropriate: At times what transpired onstage felt not just like a rock concert but a display of the evolutionary marvel that is aging in the 21st century. (Albeit aging while wealthy, with every possible technological and medical advantage at one’s disposal. I’ll have whatever vitamins the Stones are taking, please.)

Ronnie Wood, the core group’s baby at age 76, still shreds on the guitar with a grinning, impish verve. Eighty-year-old and eternally cool Keith Richards pairs his bluesy licks with a humble demeanor that seems to say “I can’t believe I’m still here, either.” And then there is Jagger, who turns 81 a few days after the Hackney Diamonds Tour wraps in July. Six decades into his performing career, he is somehow still the indefatigable dynamo he always was, slithering vertically like a charmed snake, chopping the air as if he’s in a kung fu battle against a swarm of unseen mosquitoes, and, when he needs both hands to dance, which is often, nestling the microphone provocatively above the fly of his pants. Sprinting the length of the stage during a rousing “Honky Tonk Women” — the 13th song in the set! — he conjured no other rock star so much as Benjamin Button, as he seemed to become even more energetic as the night went on.

Last year’s “ Hackney Diamonds ” — the Stones’ first album of new material in nearly two decades — was the nominal reason for the tour, but they didn’t linger on it, and the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Across 19 songs, they played only three tunes from the latest release, including two of the best: The taut, growly lead single “Angry” and, for the first part of the encore, the gospel-influenced reverie “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” Mostly it was a kind of truncated greatest hits collection, capturing the band’s long transformation from reverent students of the blues (Richards’ star turn on the tender “You Got the Silver”) to countercultural soothsayers (a singalong-friendly “Sympathy for the Devil”) to corporate rock behemoth (they opened, of course, with “Start Me Up”).

Jagger, Richards and Wood all still emanate a palpable joy for what they are doing onstage. But those joys also feel noticeably personal and siloed, rarely blending to provide much intra-band chemistry. That is likely a preservation strategy — the surest way to keep a well-oiled machine running and to continue sharing the stage with the same people for half a century or more. But when Jagger ended a charming story about a local diner that had named a sandwich after him (“I’ve never had a [expletive] sandwich named after me! I’m very, very proud”), I did not quite buy his assertion that he, Keith and Ronnie were going to go enjoy one together after the show.

Some of that fractured feeling is likely due to the absence of the great Charlie Watts , the band’s longtime drummer who died in 2021; the Hackney Diamonds Tour is the Stones’ first North American stadium tour without him. His replacement, Steve Jordan, does about as good a job as anyone could — like Watts, he balances a rock drummer’s power with a jazzy agility — and his presence never overwhelms. Though they are surrounded by plenty of talented backing musicians, the staging makes it clear that the Rolling Stones are now a trio.

The night’s breakout star, though, was Chanel Haynes, a backing vocalist who took center stage to sing with Jagger during two of the night’s best performances. Haynes — who played Tina Turner in the West End production of the jukebox musical “Tina” before joining the Stones’ touring band in 2023 — ably filled the shoes of the mighty Merry Clayton on a blazing “Gimme Shelter,” and sat in for Lady Gaga on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” matching the megawatt intensity of her “Hackney Diamonds” cameo. Though Haynes could be velvety soft when the song called for it, at her most impressive she sang with a low, grumbling hunger that often swelled into ferocity, as if she were taking big, meaty bites out of the songs.

Jagger, for his part, delivered many of his lines in his signature bark: The second song, a somewhat slowed down and blues-ified “Get Off of My Cloud,” was transformed by his almost scat-like delivery. But in fleeting moments — including a few falsetto runs — he showed that a certain tenderness in his tone remains intact.

That was most apparent on a gorgeous rendition of “Wild Horses,” the song that gained inclusion in the set by winning the nightly online “fan vote.” For so much of this show, the Stones effectively proved they could outrun age, irrelevancy and all the other indignities that time brings to mere mortals. But here they settled into something more contemplative, elegiac and vulnerable, and the show was better for it.

At a time when their few remaining peers are wrapping farewell tours and bands that have been together for half as long are running on fumes, the Stones are an anomaly. It’s not that their show is devoid of nostalgia, but it’s not coasting on it either. They don’t look like they did in the ’70s — who does? — but when their sound is gelling they are able to tap into some kind of eternal present. For better or worse, they seem intent to be the last band of their generation standing, to ride rock ’n’ roll all the way to its logical endpoint. Astoundingly, they don’t sound like they’ve reached it yet.

Girls Aloud

Six reasons why going to gigs alone is the best.

So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!

Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?

Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.

1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see

Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?

2. Meet new friends

It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!

3. The freedom

Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.

4 . It’s a cult

You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.

5. Confidence boost

Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.

6. Experience the music your way

Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.

Your next gig awaits

It all starts here.

Create memories to last a lifetime

Whether it’s your favourite band, an evening with friends, discovering new artists or the seventh show on the tour, we are your go-to home for all things live music.

Don’t miss out on the biggest announcement and keep checking back for latest news and last chance tickets.

Why the US government is trying to break up Live Nation Entertainment – a music industry scholar explains

live tour bands

Associate Professor of Sociology, University of Texas at Arlington

The U.S. Justice Department, along with 29 states and the District of Columbia , have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment , the parent company of Ticketmaster.

The lawsuit alleges that Live Nation “engaged in a variety of tactics to eliminate competition and monopolize markets,” which, according to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, has allowed the entertainment giant to “ suffocate the competition ” through its control of ticket prices, venues and concert promotion.

In response, Live Nation said that the antitrust suit “ignores everything that is actually responsible for higher ticket prices, from increasing production costs to artist popularity, to 24/7 online ticket scalping that reveals the public’s willingness to pay far more than primary tickets cost.”

The Conversation U.S. asked David Arditi, a University of Texas at Arlington sociologist and former professional drummer who has researched the livelihoods of musicians, to explain what’s behind the government’s decision to intervene in the ticket-selling business.

What is the government accusing the company of doing?

The government alleges that Live Nation Entertainment’s sprawling business model is choking off competition and that the company is punishing venues that rely on other ticketing services.

Live Nation, the country’s largest concert promoter, and Ticketmaster, the nation’s biggest ticket seller, had long been major players in the music industry. After the Justice Department approved a merger in 2010 between the two enterprises, the new company, Live Nation Entertainment, became far more powerful.

Live Nation Entertainment now controls many of the functions associated with putting on a concert: It owns venues, promotes concerts , books acts, produces shows, manages artists, sells tickets, and more.

Why is the Biden administration doing this?

After winning the 2020 presidential election, President Joe Biden promised to use the Justice Department’s antitrust division to break up monopolies, and that’s exactly what the government is trying to do with Live Nation Entertainment.

The government has been investigating Live Nation Entertainment for decades . But after a botched Ticketmaster presale for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in late 2022 – which made it nearly impossible for fans to buy tickets at face value – government scrutiny intensified.

After that fiasco, fans started contacting their lawmakers, and the U.S. Senate even held a hearing on the issue. In May 2024, the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, signed a bill into law that will require all ticket sellers in the state to disclose their fees up front.

How did Ticketmaster change the ticket-buying experience?

For much of the 20th century, buying tickets to a show or sporting event required traveling to the venue’s box office.

In 1976, Albert Leffler, who worked at Arizona State University’s performing arts center , and Peter Gadwa, an IT staffer on the same campus, founded Ticketmaster with businessman Gordon Gunn III. The enterprise began to sell tickets a year later. As the company developed, it incorporated new technology to facilitate ticket sales at a growing list of locations outside of the venue where a show would be performed.

Ticketmaster ultimately acquired Ticketron , its predecessor and rival.

As a teen in the 1990s, I remember waiting in line at a local grocery store in Williamsburg, Virginia, to buy tickets to a Dave Matthews Band show at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. I had to be at the grocery store at 9 a.m. to purchase the tickets, but because it was a local Ticketmaster vendor, it saved me an hourlong trip to the venue.

A couple of years later, Ticketmaster introduced the technology required to give concertgoers the opportunity to purchase tickets online. In 2008, the company permitted paperless entry.

However, that convenience comes with hidden fees. Suddenly, the cost of your US$25 ticket can balloon to $40, with that extra $15 relatively opaque until checkout. These fees used to be a matter of convenience; there wasn’t a fee when you went to the venue to buy a ticket.

Now, the fees are unavoidable and multiplying : There can be a service fee, an order processing charge, a facility charge and a delivery fee.

Close up of a woman's hand holding a printed out ticket with barcodes and the word 'ticketmaster' on it.

How has Live Nation affected artists’ ability to make a living?

In my research and my personal experience, I’ve observed a sea change in the roles that live music and recorded music are playing.

From the 1970s to the 1990s, recording artists with medium-sized and large fan bases toured to promote their albums. During that time, these musicians assumed that they would take a loss on their tours; the payoff would come from their ability to sell more albums. Less prominent musicians, meanwhile, have always relied on playing at small venues to earn any income at all.

With the advent of file-sharing services, which later gave way to streaming, recording artists began to rely more on touring revenue to supplement their income , as money earned from album sales fell.

With even the most popular musicians increasingly relying on income from touring, they count more on making sure they earn what is owed to them. Fans feel like they have a close relationship with their favorite musicians and are willing to support them financially.

But when Live Nation Entertainment adds fees or pressures musicians to take a smaller cut of concert revenue, it becomes apparent to fans that they and their favorite musicians are getting a raw deal.

What will happen moving forward?

The government will seek a jury trial to determine if Live Nation Entertainment is a monopoly. If the company is found to be violating the Sherman Anti-Trust Act , Live Nation Entertainment would be forced to restructure, or even split into two or more separate companies.

Of course, lawsuits take time to resolve, even if the parties settle before entering a courtroom. And any potential ruling could have to go through an appeals process. I believe it’s likely that this dispute won’t be resolved for several years .

Aside from the lawsuit, the Biden administration is working on banning so-called “ junk fees .” Eliminating exorbitant or hidden fees on concert tickets would address some of these problems.

Unfortunately, no matter what happens to Live Nation Entertainment, the music industry as a whole – whether it’s the record labels, streaming services, music publishers or music venues – is trending toward more consolidation and monopolistic behavior .

“I’m just sad,” says Noelle Vavuris who went to the Eras Tour in Santa Clara, California, and wanted to see the new “Tortured Poets Department” addition at the Estadio da Luz. “I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars to see Taylor. Please. I just want to be inside.”

Vavuris lives in Amsterdam and came to the concert with three of her best friends.

“We’ve been waiting in line for an hour and a half and we just got all the way to the stadium and then got sent all the way outside,” she says, trying to find her correct gate after multiple attempts. “We’re herded cattle. There’s absolute chaos.”

Show opener Paramore went on after 7 p.m. The tickets said the show was supposed to begin at 6 p.m. You could hear Hayley Williams singing her last song “This is Why” booming from the open-roofed stadium as Vavuris made it past security.

“There was a massive bottleneck at the security checkpoint to get rid of water bottles,” says Malika Nunes, who lives in Lisbon and was in the same line as Vavuris. “And then people were jumping over the barricade, pulling them apart. We stood behind a post."

Security opened the gates to more areas and fans ran by the hundreds to the stadium doors.

"They finally got more police and more security people," Nunes says. "There's soccer games here weekly with as many people, and those are organized. This is chaos. I've never seen anything like this."

Temperatures hovered in the mid-70s. When Swift took the stage at 8 p.m., the temperature was 66 degrees. In a last-minute change by producer Last Tour, fans were allowed to bring a plastic water bottle into the open-roofed stadium up to 50 centiliters (about 16 ounces). No glass, hard plastic or metal containers were allowed inside according to an informational packet released .

When Swift came on stage, she didn't mention the delay or the wait. Her team didn't respond to an email asking about the late start.

"This is my first time getting to come to Portugal, and this is how you welcome us," she said, and the crowd went wild. "When I first walked out in the show and I looked out and saw the crowd, you took my breath away. My heart was beating so fast. You just made me feel so loved. Thank you so much."

Swift will play one more night in Lisbon before going to Madrid.

Billy Eichner

Billy Eichner is finally getting to live out his childhood dream of a being in a major stage musical.

The “Bros” star is making his Hollywood Bowl singing debut this weekend during “ The Lion King ‘s” 30th anniversary live-to-film concert.

“We just had our first official rehearsal all together this morning,” Eichner told me Wednesday afternoon. “The scope and size of it really knocked me out. If I can get through it, I think it’s going to be really fun.”

Popular on Variety

Young Eichner calmed down in time for the show: “I was blown away. I could not stop watching Nathan. He just blew my mind, just the ultimate musical comedy star.”

Eicher became friends with Lane, who played Timon in the original “Lion King” movie, after they were introduced at a birthday party for Bridget Everett. “When I got the role of Timon and he saw the movie, he was always sending me emails of support,” Eichner said of the Tony winner. “When I had gotten some good reviews, he was congratulating me. He’s my hero, so to be on stage with him is truly wild.”

With Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter making her feature film debut in “Mufasa” as Kiara, the daughter of Nala (Beyoncé) and Simba (Donald Glover), I asked Eichner if he got to work with the music superstars’ offspring. “I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say, so I’m not going to say it,” he said. “But I’m excited about ‘Mufasa.’ We just had what I think was maybe our final recording sessions with [director] Barry Jenkins. It was the first time I’ve seen any of the movie.”

But for now, all his attention is on the Hollywood Bowl. He’ll take part in a full dress rehearsal later today. “All of the producers have flown over from London,” Eichner said. “We’re all finally in person together with the orchestra and the conductor and choreographer Jamal Sims and so many dancers — so many dancers! I feel like I’m on Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour.”
