Look into the Future

Released just a year after their debut, “Look into the Future” was Journey’s second studio album. The band continued in a similar vein, leaning heavily towards progressive rock with intricate instrumental arrangements. The title track and “On a Saturday Nite” are often cited as highlights. However, the album failed to bring substantial commercial success, although it was a step forward in terms of songwriting and complexity. Neal Schon on guitars, Ross Valory on bass, and Gregg Rolie on keyboards and vocals returned for this album, with Aynsley Dunbar continuing to provide the drum work. Journey’s “Revelation” marked a pivotal point in the band’s long and storied career, primarily because it was their second album with Arnel Pineda on lead vocals. Produced by Kevin Shirley, “Revelation” was recorded at The Plant Studios in Sausalito, California, and Avatar Studios in New York.

The album is a triple-disc set. The first disc features 11 new songs, while the second contains 11 re-recorded classics featuring Pineda’s vocals, allowing both old and new fans to experience Journey’s classics in a new light. The third disc is a DVD of a live concert.

The album captures Journey’s classic rock sound, while also infusing new energy. Hits like “Never Walk Away” and “After All These Years” became fan favorites and enjoyed radio airplay. The album went on to receive platinum certification and peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Journey's Neal Schon says he and Steve Perry are 'in a good place' before band's 50th anniversary

On the cusp of turning 50, the band that etched “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and “Faithfully” into lighters-up lore is entering “a cleaned-up chapter of Journey.”

That’s according to Neal Schon, the band’s ace guitarist, lone original constant and de facto CEO.

Despite decades of fluctuating lineups and snarly lawsuits among band members , Journey endures.

On July 8, the band released “Freedom,” its first new album in 11 years that also presents the return of Randy Jackson (as in "American Idol") on bass. The 15-song collection is steeped with vintage-sounding ballads (“Still Believe in Love,” “Live to Love Again”) and soaring melodic rockers (“United We Stand,” “You Got the Best of Me”).

Journey – including longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain, peppy singer Arnel Pineda , drummer Deen Castronovo and keyboardist Jason Derlatka, adding bassist Todd Jensen for live shows – will hit Resorts World Las Vegas this month for shows backed by a symphony orchestra before rolling through more arena dates this summer and in early 2023, the band’s official 50th year.

Journey in pop culture: Quarantined family perfectly re-creates 'Separate Ways' music video at home

Regular road warriors who consistently pack arenas and stadiums – their 27 shows this year grossed $28 million, according to Billboard Boxscore – Journey relies on a solid catalog of mega-hits and a devoted fan base that appreciates the familiarity.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers also received a boost from Netflix’s ’80s-centered “Stranger Things” when the show used “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” in the trailer for the just-ended season, launching the song onto Billboard’s Rock Digital Songs chart. The affable Schon, 68, talked with USA TODAY about the band’s complicated legacy, his relationship with former frontman Steve Perry and plans for Journey's golden anniversary.

Question: Are you amazed at how the Journey train keeps rolling after almost 50 years?

Neal Schon: It’s quite an accomplishment and I’m very proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve gotten through emotional and personnel changes and survived. It’s pretty mind-boggling but also a lot of hard work.

Q: Does the title “Freedom” refer to anything specifically?

Schon: Our ex-manager Herbie Herbert wanted to call the (1986) “Raised on Radio” album “Freedom” because he always came up with these one-word titles. Steve (Perry) fought him on that and got his way, so we sat on it for many years. When we got through the lawsuit with the ex-bandmates, we made the new LLC Freedom (JN) and when we were tossing around album titles said, why not just call the whole thing “Freedom?" It's for the times right now.

Q: There’s been a bit of a revolving door in the rhythm section. Deen Castronovo is back for the live shows, but Narada Michael Walden played drums on the album, and Randy Jackson is back in the band, at least on record?

Schon: Deen is singing and playing his butt off. He’s such a musical sponge, this guy. He’s been like my little brother for close to three decades and is such a joy to work with. Randy, he’d been working with me diligently this whole time. He’s so many things beyond being an amazing musician and bass player.

Q: Will Randy play at any of the upcoming live shows or is Todd Jensen handling those duties?

Schon: Randy is still recovering from some surgery and he stays very busy and Todd fits like a glove. Having said that, I think with our 50th anniversary next year, there’s room for everybody to jump in if they want to participate. We did go through an ugly divorce with (Steve Smith and Ross Valory) with the court proceedings (in 2021, Schon and Cain settled a $10 million trademark lawsuit with the band’s former drummer and bassist). But definitely, if Steve Perry wanted to come on and sing a song, yes. If (original Journey singer) Gregg Rolie wanted to come sing a couple of songs, yes. Randy Jackson (can) come sit in on some of the material – he played on a lot of hits on “Raised on Radio.”

Q: Do you talk much with Steve Perry?

Schon: We are in contact. It’s not about him coming out with us, but we’re speaking on different levels. That’s a start, even if it’s all business. And I’m not having to go through his attorney! We’ve been texting and emailing. He’s a real private guy and he wants to keep it that way. We’re in a good place.

Q: Do you think, after 15 years, that people have accepted Arnel?

Schon: I was diligent in that I wanted to show the massive size of our audience, so I hired photogs to come out every show and shoot the audience and show the size of the crowd to make everybody see, what am I missing? From putting up the different photos every night and the reviews from the fans online, I saw very little of “This is not Journey, man.” I think we just shut everybody up.

Formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch. Journey has been through their share of incarnations over the past five decades – some of them respected but low-selling, some of them bestsellers who were critically ignored. To help guide you through those periods, we're counting down all of their studio albums from worst to best.

Through it all, guitarist and co-founder Neal Schon , the only member to have appeared on every Journey album, has soldiered on. He started Journey in the mid-'70s as a fusion-focused group alongside fellow Santana product Gregg Rolie , but it was only after Steve Perry joined that they began building a platinum-selling legacy. Kep1er releases final album as 9-member group

'Girls Planet 999' project group will continue with lineup change

K-pop girl group Kep1er has released its debut full-length album, signifying the culmination of its two-and-a-half-year journey as a nine-member group. The group is now entering a new phase as a septet, with the majority of its members renewing their contracts.

Kep1er, a project girl group originally formed through Mnet's 2021 audition program, "Girls Planet 999," includes members Yujin, Mashiro, Xiaoting, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, Youngeun and Yeseo.

All members, except Mashiro and Yeseo, recently renewed their contracts with WAKEONE and Swing Entertainment, which have managed the group, signaling a fresh start for Kep1er as a seven-piece act.

This decision has been viewed as groundbreaking, challenging the conventional fate of short-lived project groups formed through local audition programs. Typically, such groups disband after two to three years when members' contracts expire.

Examples include WANNAONE from Mnet's "Produce 101 Season 2" and IZ*ONE from "Produce 48," both of which are now inactive.

At a press event held at YES24 Live Hall in Seoul's Gwangjin District, Monday, Kep1er members expressed their joy at being able to retain the group's name, while also sharing their sadness about moving forward without two members.

"We’ve talked a lot about our future since last year, and we didn’t want to end the time we’ve spent together," explained Yujin, Kep1er's eldest member and leader. "So, most of the members decided to continue under Kep1er's name."

Yeseo, who concluded her contract, became emotional while sharing her thoughts about wrapping up her Kep1er journey.

"The time spent with the members as Kep1er has been a cherished memory. Despite any shortcomings, I believe I did my best to build our activities on trust. Even though this chapter has come to a close, I hope you'll remember us as nine sisters," Yeseo said.

Mashiro, another member set to leave Kep1er, also expressed her feelings, saying, "I want to wrap up my time as Kep1er on a good note. Please give us your warm attention and love for the upcoming album."

Building on this momentum, Kep1er released its new album, "Kep1going On," reflecting on the group's past activities and marking a new beginning as a seven-member act. "Kep1going On" marks Kep1er's first full-length album in Korea and its first new release since the "Magic Hour" album last September.

Yujin said the album "commemorates the time spent with fans."

"This album is very meaningful for both the fans and us," Yujin said. "It encapsulates our two and a half years of activities as nine members. We've put a lot of effort and affection into every song, so we ask for your support."

The album's titular track, "Shooting Star," is a synth-pop genre piece known for its rhythmic drums and electric guitar sounds.

"This song contains the message that not only we but also the fans are stars that shine bright, and we won’t have to fear any darkness as long as we are together on our journey," Chaehyun said, explaining the poignant message behind the song's lyrics.

The new album includes nine other tracks of various genres, including "Last Carnival," "Curious," "Flowers, Flutter, Your Heart," "Double Up!," "PUSH BUTTON," "PROBLEM," "Dear Diary," "Grand Prix" and "Straight Line."

Concluding the heartfelt event, Yujin revealed the group's goal for this album.

"As this is the epitome of the growth we have achieved so far as a nine-member group, our goal is to dominate local Top 100 music charts with 'Shooting Star,'" she said.

An unexpected journey: turning a music dream into reality

Reece Flores, the spring 2024 Windward Community College commencement speaker, says she is an example of how students can find unexpected opportunities at the University of Hawaiʻi community colleges. Flores has released three original songs in the past year and plans to release her first album in July, after earning her associate in arts in liberal arts with a concentration in theatre and her associate in arts degree in Hawaiian studies.

Flores grew up in Kāneʻohe and planned to attend UH Mānoa. The pandemic altered those plans, and she decided to stay a little closer to home, which unexpectedly led her to pursue her lifelong passion—music.

“A huge driving force in my experience at Windward was being a student worker. I got to meet so many new people and experience new things that I never would have otherwise,” said Flores. “I got to record music, make original songs and singles—which was a huge driving force for me—and feel a part of a community and being embraced and all.”

The path to original music

Songwriting and music had always helped Flores share her stories and express her emotions.

“I feel like being able to write music and produce it just makes the little inner child in me really happy because I don’t think that I ever would have thought before coming to Windward or going to UH that would have even been something that was even achievable,” said Flores.

Through a job as a student employee assistant and mentor, she was able to collaborate with Windward CC ’s recording studio, Ka Leo o Laʻakea Studios, to assist professors who wanted to integrate music into their lectures. This allowed her to gain knowledge in basic music, recording and producing techniques.

It was through that experience, Flores was able to produce and release three original singles and her self-titled album Reecey Girl on July 19 with six self-written songs on music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon Music. Each song in her upcoming album is a sister song to one she has already released.

“The overall theme is just like how my songwriting style is a good glimpse into the beginning eras of my life, if you were to open my diary; a representation of me,” said Flores.

Her music has found its way into fellow Windward CC student creative media projects, where they are planning to release a music video for a creative media class using motion film.

“I just never thought that someone like me would be able to have a story to tell,” said Flores. “I’m realizing now that growing up here and having the perspective that I have means that I have something unique to say.”

Helping first-year students succeed

Flores’ job which involved the college’s recording studio is through the E ʻOi Mau Work-Based Learning program . Her role encompasses mentoring cohorts of first-year students, helping them discover student employment opportunities. She also provides academic and personal support to help students feel prepared and confident for their next steps in community college.

“Every year when I’m finished with a cohort, I’ll watch them be done and I’ll get ready to mentor my new students. I see all the growth that they’ve made in the year and I’m excited to see new students flourish,” said Flores.

An immersive theatre journey

Beyond the studio, Flores was deeply involved in theatre at Windward CC ’s Hawaiʻi Conservatory of Performing Arts , acting in original Windward productions such as iHula and Demigods Anonymous , and participating in theatre festivals.

Flores also ventured abroad in 2022 as a part of Windward CC ’s UK Footholds Shakespeare Experience Study Abroad Program where she trained at the East 15 Acting School (University of Essex), studying Shakespeare, classical texts, watching performances and training alongside professionals.

Looking ahead

Flores plans to attend the UH Mānoa Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health this upcoming fall with the help of UH Mānoa’s presidential scholarship to earn her bachelor’s degree in social work.

“The reason for that (studying social work) was because my job is closely linked to social work and I really do love it,” said Flores. “And I of course still want to continue to make music, and I’d love to be able to work with students with music as some form of therapy.”

Later that month, LeNoble celebrated another milestone — his elder daughter’s 20th birthday. “My sweet Marlon is turning 20 tomorrow. Truly one of my angels,” he captioned a photo with his first-born. “I love you Marlon.”

Later that year, Sadie revealed she has been diagnosed with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) during a June interview on the “MeSsy” podcast . “I have no clue what it actually is but it’s something to do with the autonomic nervous system and it affects my heart,” she explained at the time. “When I stand up, I get really, really dizzy and my legs get really weak and I feel like I’m going to pass out.”

Jon Muq's 'Flying Away' highlights Ugandan singer's humble journey to authentic pop sounds

Ugandan-born singer-songwriter jon muq's easy eye sound release "flying away" honors his humble journey to indie-pop acclaim..

Ugandan-born and Austin-based performer Jon Muq's work is proof that humbly regarding one's talents is the best way to allow them to fuel a fast-rising career.

He's best described as a quiet sitter and thinker, whose strengths as a singer-songwriter arise from how novel he continues to find it that he's not letting the grass grow under his feet.

That's what makes the soulful intonations of his debut Easy Eye Sound album "Flying Away" hit differently. He's an artist serving his public and instruments — in that order.

'I will always do what I love'

Since he was 11 in the mountainous rural eastern suburbs of Kampala, Uganda, he has perpetually moved — four times in 10 years between middle school and college.

Following graduation with a degree in industrial art and design, he first strummed a guitar and belted tunes in a hotel lobby, then on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, singing six days a week while traveling between Florida, the Bahamas and South America. Though an award-winner there, he eventually settled in Austin, where he worked with charity programs that provide services and support to those in need.

"I write about happiness, joy and love because they're universal and they're different emotions than what I grew up experiencing," says Muq, as he sits backstage at Nashville's Basement East before opening for the Secret Sisters.

He creates a lineage that includes singing to the radio in an outdoor bathroom — after his family's landlord shut off their electricity to conserve power — and absentmindedly singing in a soprano octave while playing the shaker four years later in his boarding school choir.

"I never knew how well I could sing, but there's always been a pattern of people appreciating my voice," Muq says.

"Whether I'm singing on Facebook, for young homeless people, or on a ship, I have, am, and will always do what I love."

'Flying Away'

He describes his latest collection of tunes, which include "Flying Away From Home," as songs that work to change someone's daily emotional state, if just for a moment.

It's an upbeat pop tune with a bright vocal, similar to two of 2006's Top 5 Billboard year-end Hot 100 charting songs: "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt and "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter.

He sings autobiographically: "Always dreamed I'd go away / Somewhere maybe I could fly / So I left my home when I was 23 years old / And sailed away into the night."

Timelessly courageous and upbeat pop has been in Muq's creative lineage since he discovered a compact disc copy of the USA for Africa collective's 1984 release, "We Are the World," as a teenager.

Hearing the song's diverse array of '80s-era pop stars in harmonic unison stoked a "passion" for music in Muq's heart that, alongside joining his boarding school's choir, triggered his confidence to sing and write songs with broad thematic aims.

To that end, "Shake Shake" is inspired by party-ready dance moves familiar to Kampala's 50 unique tribes living in five different local areas.

"Being inspired by how some tribes are known for shaking their shoulders, others their heads, many their feet inspired me to write 'darling won't you dance with me, shake shake what you got' — if people can dance, they're joyful all night," Muq says. "Writing a song that makes everyone, everywhere, someone who can hear a command and it takes them from their heart to a dance floor felt good."

A 'mind-blowing' opportunity

Working with Black Keys frontman and Easy Eye Sound founder Dan Auerbach for his release almost didn't happen.

Muq, again, humbly regards his talents as all derived from his novel appreciation that fans are in awe of his vocal skills.

When Auerbach reached out via Facebook, Muq was initially stunned.

However, his Austin-based friends, incredulous that Muq could be unaware, informed him that this was a "mind-blowing" chance worth taking.

Auerbach's ability to surround Muq with musicians and opportunities bolstered his raw singer-songwriter skills. To wit, the album took roughly one take per track to complete.

"The chemistry required to do that forces artists to speak an authentic musical language," the performer adds.

That language creates a through-line between blues, folk and R&B, serving as the release's guiding force. Whether the result is Afropop or contemporary American-released pop, its lens is defined by an unmistakable sound.

"These songs connect in a way that makes both me as an artist, the players in the studio and people when they hear me live feel comfortable," Muq says. "Given how hard my journey has been, I'm grateful to receive that level of comfort from everyone in my life."

Today in Hip-Hop History: Jay-Z Dropped Debut Album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ 28 Years Ago

On June 25, 1996, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Dame Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke embarked on a creative journey that has morphed into a billion-dollar movement today with the release of the Reasonable Doubt LP.

Released courtesy of their independent Roc-A-Fella imprint, Jay’s premier album was promoted and sanctioned by the streets, with previews of the album via sampler cassettes hitting the roads in the winter of 1995. The album’s first single, “Ain’t No Nigga”, featuring a then-teenage Foxy Brown, was the introduction of “Jigga” to the industry that would eventually put him in the pole position of the rap game.

Other unforgettable tracks from one of the prototype LPs of the “mafia rap” era include, “Dead Presidents II,” “Can’t Knock The Hustle,” which features Mary J. Blige, “Brooklyn’s Finest” with the late Notorious B.I.G. and the introduction of Marcy young gun Memphis Bleek on “Coming Of Age”.

All-star production from DJ Premier, Irv Gotti, Ski, and Clark Kent propelled the album, along with Jay’s common street ethics surgically placed melodically on the beats.

A Reminder That Joni Mitchell’s Blue is the Ultimate Summer Travel Album

A couple of weeks ago, I booked a summer trip to Mallorca and Menorca , two of the four main Balearic islands in Spain. Since then, I have done approximately zero things to prepare for my travels except listen to Joni Mitchell ’s legendary 1971 album Blue over and over again, specifically the fitting lyrics from her song “California”: “So I bought me a ticket, I caught a plane to Spain, went to a party down a red dirt road / there were lots of pretty people there, reading Rolling Stone , reading Vogue .”

Anyone who knows me can confirm this anecdote to be true. As a lifelong Joni fan (we’re on a first-name basis here), I never miss an opportunity to soundtrack my life to her songs. But as I was revisiting Blue yet again, in the leadup to both my Spain trip and the album’s 53rd anniversary today (!), I was struck by just how much Joni’s travel-inspired lyrics continue to resonate even 53 years later. Maybe especially 53 years later. Listening to it now, as we’re heading into yet another glorious summer travel season, I can’t help thinking it’s the throwback travel vibe we all need to carry with us over the next few months.

Given its name and its blue cover, many people tend to think Blue is a somber album, or a sad breakup album. But while it is indeed filled with raw vulnerability and despair, and it does cover the dissolution of a relationship, it’s also a groundbreaking travel tale at its core, one that documents the singer’s quest to find herself on the road during her tumultuous twenties (it came out when she was 27). The New York Times even called it “the heroine’s journey that Joseph Campbell forgot to map out.” Joni wrote many of the songs on Blue when she was wandering around Europe solo, after breaking off a relationship with her then-boyfriend, British singer-songwriter Graham Nash. They’d been living together in Los Angeles’ woodsy Laurel Canyon , which at the time was the beating heart and soul of late ’60s folk music. Joni and Graham appeared to be the ultimate California golden couple, but she was restless and apprehensive of the seemingly perfect domestic life that was unfolding before her eyes. In her cult-favorite documentary Joni Mitchell: A Woman of Heart and Mind , released in 2003, she explains that she didn’t want to end up like both of her grandmothers, who were creatives at heart but weren’t able to follow their dreams due to domestic obligations:

“I just started thinking, my grandmother was a frustrated poet and musician. She kicked the kitchen door off of the hinges on the farm. And I thought about my paternal grandmother who wept for the last time in her life at 14 behind some barn, because she wanted a piano and said, ‘Dry your eyes, you silly girl, you’ll never have a piano,’” she reflects in the documentary. “And then I thought, maybe I’m the one that got the gene that has to make it happen for these two women. As much as I loved and cared for Graham, I just thought, I’m going to end up like my grandmother, kicking the door off the hinges. And I’d better not. It broke my heart.”

Thus began the journey that would come to define Blue . Joni bought a plane ticket to Europe, where she traveled around France, Spain, and Greece. She was in Greece when she sent Graham a telegram letting him know it was officially over, writing, “If you hold sand too tightly in your hand, it will run through your fingers. Love, Joan.” Against that backdrop, the album kicks off with the song “All I Want,” where she sings, “I am on a lonely road and I am traveling, traveling, traveling, traveling, looking for something, what can it be?” Later in the song, she switches the lyrics to, “I am on a lonely road and I am traveling / Looking for the key to set me free.” From that point on, the message is clear: Joni is searching for answers. For meaning. For purpose beyond the expected. And she’s using travel to help her find those things.

In “California,” in addition to attending that “party down a red dirt road” in Spain, we find her “sitting in a park in Paris, France,” wondering what it would be like to live there (not ideal, she decides, as it’s “too old and cold and settled in its ways”). And in “Carey,” we find her living with a new man, an American hippie named Cary Raditz, in the famously countercultural Matala Caves in Crete, Greece. The beach caves were a true backpacker haven during the late ’60s, and Joni, a chic and glamorous California girl at heart, only lasted so long before she started craving her “clean white linen and fancy French cologne” back in her more urban comfort zone. But before she and Raditz parted ways, they had a lovely, breezy time, filled with bottles upon bottles of wine at the Mermaid Café (a fictional seaside bar), and nights spent listening to “scratchy rock n’ roll beneath the Matala moon.” One of my favorite verses on the whole album is from this song:

To me, this verse perfectly captures travel as it should be: carefree and serendipitous. Filled with rounds with new friends, clinking glasses by the sea, and no itinerary except “laughing and toasting to nothing.” Ultimately, the Mermaid Café represents my travel nirvana: a place where time slows down and wine never stops flowing and freedom prevails. A place where all of the “freaks and soldiers” in the bar are down for a good time, and the only thing that matters is who is buying the next round…and will it be red, white, or rosé. This, to me, is what travel is all about: an appreciation for the simple act of being alive.

I think we can all agree that the metaphorical Mermaid Café is a lot harder to find these days. With the popularity of Instagram has come the popularity of geotags and influencer-approved itineraries and “doing it for the ’gram.” In many ways, travel has become more about hitting the hotspots than being open to the search. More about the plan than the possibility. And I can’t stop asking myself: When did it all become so…mapped out? So scheduled? So hyperconnected and influenced by IG?

There was a time in my life when travel was genuinely filled with Mermaid Café moments. The year was 2006. I was studying abroad in England for my junior year of college, and my best friend Zoë—also a Joni fanatic—and I made new friends everywhere we went. We backpacked all around Europe together that year, popping into random bars and hostels, guided by little but our intuition and a couple of research pit stops at Internet cafés (social media was not yet a thing). And we always managed to emerge with a new pack of travel friends along the way.

Our freewheeling vibe makes even more sense now in retrospect than it did then, as we spent that entire year listening to Blue whenever and wherever we could. Of course it infiltrated into our very essence! We’d plop ourselves down in parks and wildflower fields for indulgent listens, plugging a Y adapter into one of our iPods so we could take in the music at the same time as we stared up at the sky. I distinctly remember listening to the entirety of Blue lying in the fields outside Stonehenge, and on the overnight ferry from Italy to Greece. The waters were rough that night, and we felt vaguely seasick—but we knew a little Blue moment would help us through. Joni was our role model, our guide to the magic of soul-searching travel. And with her as our inspiration, we remained open to happenstance, open to the possibility that travel could help us find something we didn’t even know we were looking for.

That was 18 years ago. And now, as we celebrate Blue ’s 53rd anniversary today, I’m still convinced—perhaps now more than ever before—that Blue is the ultimate travel blueprint. Joni set off on her European adventure when she found herself at a crossroads, unsure of her future but sure that she wanted to veer away from her past. She did not have an exact plan, as she made clear in “California” (“Maybe I’ll go to Amsterdam, maybe I’ll go to Rome,” she sings). But she likely knew she just needed to get out of her comfort zone, and let travel take care of the rest. And that it did. Not only did Blue go on to become a musical masterpiece (Apple Music just included it on its list of the 100 Best Albums of All Time , following many previous awards), Joni also escaped the fate of her grandmothers and carved her own creative path.

I’ll be thinking of her as I “catch a plane to Spain” soon enough myself. Tempted as I will be to map out the entire trip, and research all of the places I “should” go, I’m going to channel my inner Joni and let the unknown lead the way. Who knows? Maybe I’ll stumble upon my own Mermaid Café once again, where I will laugh and toast to nothing...and then have another round.
