It started with a rowboat. Antonio Mantegazza (the eventual founder of the Globus family of brands) bought a rowboat on credit and began transporting travelers across Lake Lugano, sharing stories of local sights.

Paid holidays begin to become standard, which was great news for travel providers like Mantegazza, who expanded his operation with more rowboats on Lake Lugano. Throughout the decade, he also added:

• Taxis on land • A fleet of twelve motorcoaches operating in Switzerland • Operational rights to a popular local route for the Swiss national postal and transportational service

Mantegazza's son, Sergio, joins the company. They partner with Werner Albek, who helps Globus Viaggi operate excursions to St. Moritz, Milan, Venice, Rome, and other popular European destinations.

• Globus Viaggi acquires two competing coach companies • Fleet of coaches grows to 33

Beware!! Check if the ferries are running before you book this tour!!! Just completed the 10 Day Scottish Highland Fling tour. We booked this tour to go to the islands and missed most of them due to "ferry trouble'. The trouble was our bus could not get on the ferry that was running to Isle of Skye, Mull and Iona. Globus knew this may happen since our tour guide mentioned it early in the tour and did not provide any interesting alternatives for those days or try to get us on the island without the bus or compensate us for our loss. Globus should also be ashamed putting paying customers in the Mercure Hotel in Inverness on a Saturday night. 2 bars right below the hotel raged till 3am and no one got any sleep. This was my first Globus tour and I have no confidence in them to book another.

cruise from hell

I boarded your Algeria shup in Porto for a 7 day cruise on the Duoro. your ship was very nice, your staff not up to scratch. When I has a fall in my cabin and looked for some medical assistance all you had was a small first aid kit. not good enough. to add insult to injury we were then stranded for 3 days in a dmall village.because of river issues. you then organised buses to go to towns, including one journey of 10 hours round trip...not good enough. I paid$20,000 for this misery. and did not get any sign of as credit or a apology. I have Travelled with scenic, viking, emerald and others, your cruise the most expensive was the pitts, I will never reccomend yyur company to anyone.AVALON WATERWAYS really needs to lift its game

Just completed Emerald Isle tour

Just completed Emerald Isle tour. We have been on many tours with Globus and others -- our tour director, Julian, was the best tour director we have ever had, bar none. He was extremely knowledgeable and HUMOROUS! Made the entire trip a home run

A once in a lifetime experience (European Tapestry with London) 2024

My mom and I just went on our first trip with Globus, and it was an amazing experience. Everything was so organized and well planned that we got to just sit back and relax and enjoy our vacation. We did the European Tapestry tour with London which was about 16 days long. Even though it was many days, not once did the level of service reflect that, every day we were greeted with smiles and given the same amount of care and energy that made this trip so enjoyable. Yes, there were some long days on the bus, but our tour guide, Kees, did a wonderful job of keeping us all laughing, and entertained while learning about history and different cultures, and our driver Simon kept us all safe on the road and was so helpful with all of our luggage and extremely kind. The hotels were to our surprise really nice and comfortable, they were above our expectations in cleanliness, accommodations and level of service. The excursions were really the heart of this trip, I would recommend the Swiss Dinner and folklore party, the Tuscan countryside dinner, Monte Carlo and Moulin Rouge. The planning of this trip was so well thought out, we feel we got a little bit of everything, whether that be fun or learning or just relaxing and seeing beautiful sights. This trip was a memorable one and was our first but definitely not our last. Thank you to Globus for such a wonderful and unique experience.

The tour was great

The tour was great. Our tour guide, Miguel, was delightful. So was our bus driver, Joao. The only drawback was that some of the hotels were a little shabby. Globus probably needs to find some alternatives.

Our tour director

Our tour director, Christine was absolutely fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind, friendly, and went above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Christine really tried to get to know everyone on the tour, their likes and needs. She frequently shared her own personal experiences. It is obvious that she really enjoys her job and also enjoys working with people. The tour took us to fabulous places and the hotels were located in central areas, allowing us to walk to many points of interest.

Fantastic Journey to Cuba!

It was a very well-planned tour with impeccable precision, experiences, and details. Globus and Cuban guides/directors were superb. Loved the experiences. I did contact Globus after we returned with one problem. At our MKE airport they mandated we give them our immigration papers...said we couldn't fly without the QR code...lady at counter finally gave us the website...Globus needs to prepare people for that.

Vietnam Globus Tour

First and foremost, our tour guide Dinh was outstanding. He knows his stuff, excellent customer service and he made our tour great! He even met us at the airport in Hanoi at 1:00 a.m. to get us to our hotel when we first arrived!! Second, our accommodations (including food and beverage services) were all excellent. Third, our daily excursions/activities were all very good and as promised, and more, in the information we received ahead of time. Fourth, the communications by Globus with us was excellent. Confirmations, Travel Documents, Travel Packet and the app were all really good and very useful for us.

It was a great trip

It was a great trip. The airport transfers were great. We are very glad we arrived a day ahead of time, which allowed us to adjust to the time difference. We also greatly enjoyed our 2 day extension in Prague. Our tour guide was very nice, and provided historical information during our bus trips. Our bus driver was a gem,and really knew how to navigate the city traffic. We loved that our tour allowed for enough free time to explore on our own. We took advantage of optional tours in each city visited, and enjoyed those. The local guides provided a great orientation to the cities, and provided great historical insights.

Highlights of the South Pacific: New Zealand and Australia

We selected this tour based on the itinerary- it hit all the key spots we were interested in seeing . The online Globus portal allowed us to submit all required docs for international travel and gave details on the hotels and event on our tour. Our tour director Leonie was FABULOUS! She was very knowledgeable, funny, and kept us on schedule. She created a WhatsApp group so we could easily communicate with everyone in the group and share photos. Highly recommend Globus tours!

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome! Unfortunately we got stuck in New Zealand because of a visa problem and the global emergency line never would get back with us to help. We had to figure out and book our own flights to get caught up with our tour. The tour was five stars long as you didn’t have any problems if you are on your tour and you have an emergency problem, you are definitely on your own never heard back from them.

Globus provided the most amazing service

Globus were absolutely brilliant! Even when things didn’t go to plan (went from two of us travelling to just one) they were really helpful at every step of the way. Whilst on holiday I was given contact details for a local travel company who could help with anything I needed, which was vital in helping me feel safe travelling alone. Their app is amazing, with a day by day guide, as long as other really useful features like temperature, currency exchange, helpful phrases etc. I highly recommend this company and I plan to use them again in the future!

Reply from Globus

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review, we are delighted that your holiday exceeded expectations. Your very kind comments will be shared with all involved.

This was my second Globus tour

This was my second Globus tour. Michael the tour guide was very knowledgeable, personable and helpful as well as Barry the coach driver, they were both great! Definitely enjoyed this trip. The price was excellent I checked out several tour companies and Globus had the best deals. Booked another trip in November to Ireland. I would definitely recommend Globus Tours.

We had the most wonderful tour…

We had the most wonderful tour guide/tour director, Robert Marks. He knew so many things and treated us with great respect. We would recommend Globus just based on Robert. In addition we had great accommodations and a small (6 people) group of congenial people.

Marvelous Egypt

In February, my husband and I visited Egypt 🇪🇬 for two weeks, staying at five-star hotels. I cried due to seeing great temples of history such as Karnak, Luxor, pyramids of Giza, catacombs at Alexandria, sarcophagus of famous pharaohs, Egyptian museum (relics, art, chariots, masks, tombs, etc. from 3,000 years ago), Aswan, additional pyramids, Lake Nasser, a Nubian village, the Valley of the Dead, Tutankhamen’s mummy and treasures, hieroglyphs, place where Moses was supposedly plucked out of the Nile river, and so much more. This trip exceeded my wildest expectations. It’s one of the best ever and I have recommended it to my friends. The Egyptian people are friendly, helpful and we felt safe. Our tour director was so knowledgeable and helpful too. Wish I could go again.

Very pleased with my recent Globus tour! The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable & very friendly. The tour was well organized and we had the opportunity to see lots of great sights. The hotel accommodations were great. Would definitely recommend Globus to other travellers.

I really enjoyed all the beautiful places we went and the amazing hotels. Our guide, Jose, was spectacular, and always shared with the group, historical facts about the places we were visiting. The food was very delicious, though I was hoping for some Paella and succulent pig.

The Spanish escape was excellent

The Spanish escape was excellent. Loved all the places we visited and our tour director, Benjamin, made it so much fun while also being informative. We lucked up with excellent weather which made all the sightseeing easier. Will definitely use Globus again.

Gems of Iceland with the Northern Lights

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Iceland. The hotels and meals were fabulous. The itinerary was perfect. Best of all we got to see the Northern lights. Our guide, Holm, was excellent! We are looking forward to planning our next Globus adventure.

Everything was great as always with…

Everything was great as always with Globus. The only thing I would say is that it should offer a vegan or vegetarian selection, and of course a diabetic selection. The tour guide was great and accommodated everyone with these issues, but as she did not get notice ahead of time it just adds stress. To the people with the issues. And it’s something that should be told to the tour guide before she has to deal with it last minute or he.

Google Earth lets you explore the world via satellite images on a 3D globe. Here's how to use it and make custom maps.

  • Google Earth combines satellite imagery and aerial photography to create a rich picture of earth.
  • You can use Google Earth online, on your smartphone or tablet, or on its desktop app — all for free.
  • You can tour amazing maps all over the world and even create your own.

Insider Today

Google Earth is a virtual, three-dimensional globe developed by Google that uses satellite images, topographical data, aerial photography, and more to create a clear, detailed picture of our planet.

While the images are often updated frequently, Google doesn't capture them in real time. (For real-time satellite images of the Earth, you can visit NASA Worldview .)

With Google Earth, users can create custom maps that incorporate data and statistics from other sources, like population, tree cover, temperature, and more.

Even if you aren't geographically inclined, Google Earth allows you to travel the world from home, touring interactive maps of anything from lion habitats to underwater landscapes in the ocean to buildings constructed to mimic the patterns of nature.

Like Google Maps , You can access Google Earth and its mapping tools on your desktop or mobile device, and it's totally free to use.

In 2021, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a new "Timelapse" feature for Google Earth, which compiled millions of satellite photos over four decades to demonstrate the "rapid environmental change" the planet has endured.

Can I use Google Earth without downloading it?

If you're just browsing cool locations around the world or zooming in on your home and neighborhood, the web version of Google Earth works well. No download required!

Google Earth web was initially only available for use on Chrome, but as of 2020 is supported by Firefox, Edge, and Opera browsers, too.

But if you're looking for more advanced features, like geographic information system (GIS) data and the ability to view older versions of images to view how a place has changed over time, you may want to download Google Earth Pro on your desktop or laptop.

What do people use Google Earth for?

Google Earth users, including non-profit organizations, scientists and geographers, and map lovers, have used the program to map sea level rise in cities around the world, geographical changes in indigenous languages, the change in forest cover over time, air pollution in London, the expansion of urban centers around the world, and much more.

People also use Google Earth every day to view locations that pique their curiosity — their houses, travel destinations, or global landmarks. Unlike Google Street View, which shows photos taken by cars, Google Earth shows satellite images from above.

Together with Google Maps, Google Images , and Google Earth, people can search and view just about any location on earth.

In 2014, a German company that had created similar 3D mapping software in the 1990s filed a lawsuit against Google claiming the Silicon Valley giant had infringed on its patent rights. Two years later, a jury in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware found in favor of Google. The case was dramatized in the 2021 Netflix series "The Billion Dollar Code."

In February 2024, in partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund, Google announced it would use Google Earth to map methane leaks around the world and make that information freely available to the public.

Google will use data from MethaneSAT, a new satellite that aims to locate the sources of methane leaks that are contributing to climate change.

On February 28, Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, joined 31 other media groups and filed a $2.3 billion suit against Google in Dutch court, alleging losses suffered due to the company's advertising practices.
