One of the largest showboats ever built, the grand General Jackson Showboat is an elegant triumph of American ingenuity. With its elegant lacy filigree and stately design, the boat is reminiscent of the opulence of the American Victorian era.

Showboats have long been a colorful part of our nation’s history, and this most unique Nashville attraction epitomizes the grace and grandeur of the Old South.

The General Jackson Showboat is named after the first steamboat to operate on the Cumberland River in 1817 which was named after President Andrew Jackson, whose historic home—The Hermitage—is 15 minutes from the dock.

Built by the largest inland shipbuilder in the United States, Jeffboat, located in Indiana, the General Jackson was launched on the Cumberland River on April 20, 1985.

Ailing country legend announces farewell tour

C ountry music legend Alan Jackson is returning to the road for one final tour — “Last Call: One More for the Road” — he announced Thursday.

Jackson, 65, will continue his tour, which took place across the U.S. in 2022. The continued “Last Call” tour will feature performances in 10 cities across the U.S. beginning in August and going through May 2025.

Jackson’s return to touring comes as he continues to live with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT), a chronic nerve disease that affects peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord while also affecting muscle control in feet and hands, according to the Cleveland Clinic . Jackson first revealed he had CMT in September 2021. While there’s no cure for CMT, treatments include physical therapy, leg braces, special footwear, surgery and/or medications for symptoms.

“Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am – the ones they love,” Jackson said. “I’ve been touring for over 30 years – my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way … and I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call.”

Jackson’s final tour will serve as one more chance for fans to see and hear the singer-songwriter perform his best-loved songs like “Chattahoochee” and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”

His upcoming performances come as he continues to live with a chronic neuropathy condition, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, that he first revealed in 2021.

Alan Jackson plays guitar onstage.

Alan Jackson has one last good time in him.

The 65-year-old country icon just announced his ‘Last Call: One More for the Road Tour’ that will take him to arenas all over the U.S. from August 2024 up until May 2025.

And while he hasn’t announced a New York or New Jersey show, he will come close when he performs at Boston’s TD Garden on Friday, Aug. 2.

“This is one last call that you don’t want to miss,” Jackson shared on Instagram .

Fans may be surprised that Jackson is returning to the stage one more time; there was speculation that his 2022 tour was his last since he’d been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth aka CMT, a chronic neuropathy condition that makes walking and holding things difficult, in 2021.

As of now, the upcoming run appears to be his swan song.

If you want to hear him bust out all the classics you know and love — “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Chattahoochee,” “Little Bitty” and so many more — tickets are available as soon as today.

Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming shows on sites like Vivid Seats ; the official on-sale is Friday, June 7.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Alan Jackson’s ‘Last Call’ tour 2024: dates, cities and everything we know

Country singer-songwriter jackson, 65, has announced 10 new dates across the united states, as he resumes the concert tour that began in 2022..

William Allen

Country music singer-songwriter Alan Jackson is preparing to resume his concert tour Last Call: One More for the Road , having today announced 10 new dates across the United States in 2024 and 2025 . Jackson kicked off the tour two years ago, before proving unable to complete his 2022 schedule amid ongoing health issues.

Jackson dealing with degenerative disease

For more than a decade, the 65-year-old has been living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease , a degenerative nerve condition that affects the muscles in the arms and legs. He first went public with the condition in 2021, telling NBC’s Today show : “It’s genetic, I inherited it from my daddy. There’s no cure for it. It’s been affecting me for years and it’s getting more and more obvious. I know I’m stumbling around the stage and I’m having a little trouble balancing even in front of the microphone.”

When does Jackon’s Last Call tour resume?

Jackson’s 2024/25 concerts will begin with an August show in Boston, Massachusetts, before concluding nine months later in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While he has stopped short of saying these will be the final live concerts he will give full stop, a press release did confirm that each of his upcoming tour dates will mark “ the last time he’ll ever perform his more-than-30 years of hits in that city and surrounding areas ”.

“Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am – the ones they love,” Jackson said today as he announced the continuation of his Last Call tour. “I’ve been touring for over 30 years - my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way…and I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call .”

Is Jackson retiring from music?

While Jackson’s touring days are winding down, he said last year that he plans to keep on recording new music .

Speaking on the podcast In Joy Life, which is hosted by his daughter Mattie Jackson, he said he wasn’t ruling out adding to the more than 20 studio albums in his discography: “I would hope so. I mean, I may not have toured much, but like I said, the creative part jumps out every now and then. I’m always scribbling down ideas and thinking about melodies and I feel like there’ll be some more music to come , yes.”

Your cruise lets you experience Nashville as it can best be seen from the beautiful Cumberland River.

While “rollin’ down the river,” you’ll enjoy stunning views, a delicious meal freshly prepared by our chefs and toe-tapping entertainment in our two-story Victorian Theater.

One of the largest showboats ever built, the grand General Jackson is an elegant triumph of American ingenuity. With its elegant lacy filigree and stately design, the boat is reminiscent of the opulence of the American Victorian era.

Showboats have long been a colorful part of our nation’s history, and this most unique Nashville attraction epitomizes the grace and grandeur of the South.

The General Jackson Showboat is named after the first steamboat to operate on the Cumberland River in 1817.

Built by the largest inland shipbuilder in the United States, Jeffboat, located in Indiana, the General Jackson was launched on the Ohio River in Indiana to start the journey to its new home on Nashville’s Cumberland River on April 20, 1985.
