Here come the fall leaves and you know what time that means, back to school for the kids in the Garden state!  By now, teachers are getting their classrooms ready and making lesson plans, and mapping out educational activities for their new wave of students. Field trips are an important part of the school year, and elementary through high school teachers are always looking for new ideas. So as New Jersey schools gear up for the school bell, here’s a brief list of field trip ideas in New Jersey that will be a helpful resource for teachers and school administrators!

Outdoor Field Trip Ideas

Sweet land of liberty: ellis island and statue of liberty monument.

Opened on January 1, 1892,  Ellis Island became the nation’s largest immigration station. In operation until 1954, the station processed over 12 million immigrant steamship passengers. It reopened as a museum on September 10, 1990. Today, over 40 percent of America’s population can trace their ancestry through Ellis Island. The  Statue of Liberty  was a gift from the people of France to the United States and has become a symbol of freedom and democracy for our country. The Statue of designated as a National Monument in 1924. With such an important landmark right off the coast of Jersey, this is the ultimate field trip destination for any student in the state.

That’s History: Monmouth Battlefield State Park 

Situated 30 miles east of Trenton, one of the largest battles of the American Revolution took place here at  Monmouth Battlefield . The park reflects a beautiful and rural 18th-century landscape of hilly farmland and hedgerows. With lots of activities for field trip groups to participate in, there are hiking and riding trails, picnic areas, and a restored Revolutionary War farmhouse. Other park facilities include an interpretive and visitor center, playground, sledding, and cross-country skiing.

A Water Adventure:   Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center

Just a short 25-minute drive from Asbury Park, the  Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center  is a fantastic educational destination that explores wetland ecology, wildlife, and habitat protection. There are interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations, learning activities for schools and community groups, and wildlife observation areas. Visitors gain an understanding of the importance of water in our world. There are backpacks containing all you need to make your self-guided nature walk filled with adventure and exploration. Use of the backpack is free.

It’s All in the Mind : Virtual Reality Center – Rowan U niversity

Rowan University is located in Mullica Township, just 25 miles south of Philadelphia.  The Virtual Reality Center  provides cutting-edge research in 3D graphics, visualization, simulation, and virtual reality. It features multiple immersive VR systems, including a new 7 x 40 ft. curved wall of screens that provides a 3D, immersive environment for collaborative projects. Field trip groups get a great tour of the facility and will get to speak with staff and Rowan students about virtual reality. Younger students can also ask questions about the lab and experience simulations.

Weird Science: Liberty Science Center

Right in heart of Jersey City lives the  Liberty Science Center !  Liberty Science Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to getting learners of all ages excited about the fun and wonder of science and technology.  This is a great field trip destination for students of all ages who can participate in any level of STEM-related activities. There’s also an amazing planetarium show, 3D science theater, and a Dino Dig Adventure where kids will be able to participate in a real paleontological dig.

New Jersey History & Heritage Field Trip Ideas

Named for the Island of Jersey in the English Channel, New Jersey established itself as one of the 13 original colonies and became the third state to ratify the United States Constitution in 1787. See New Jersey’s key role in the Revolutionary War at Fort Lee Historical Park : a 33-acre cliff top park on the Palisades serving as a reconstructed Revolutionary War encampment. The park marks the site of the Fort Constitution, fortified in 1776 to oppose British ships in the Hudson. Students first view a short film about Fort Lee, and engage in hands-on activities reminiscent of the time including gathering and chopping firewood, casting musket balls and cooking an 18th-century meal. An in-depth experience for students to learn about the beginning of America helps make a field trip at Fort Lee Historical Park a must.

Located close to Fort Lee, learn about America’s labor movement at the American Labor Museum and Botto House National Landmark in New Jersey. The Pietro and Maria Botto House is where 15,000 workers gathered in the Paterson Silk Strike of 1913. Students can learn what it takes to design and build the world’s tallest skyscrapers and operate an electromagnetic crane, or watch a live colony of bees go about their daily work from inches away. Each year the center hosts several featured exhibitions focused on science and technology, so each field trip will be a totally different experience.

New Jersey Marine & Aquatic Adventures 

The SEA LIFE Aquarium New Jersey in Rutherford inspires young marine biologists through education about oceans and marine life. Encounter thousands of aquatic species and immerse your group in an underwater playground. Discounted group rates are available for school field trips, scout programs and other organizations.

Since 1993, Adventure Aquarium in Camden has been alluring visitors with over 15,000 fascinating marine species on display. This includes the most extensive shark collection in the Northeast and the only hippos in the world to be housed in an aquarium. Add-on classroom and auditorium programs, along with other educational amenities, make this one of the best field trip ideas for New Jersey institutions.

The non-profit New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium teaches groups about native marine life and coastal preservation. With education in mind, they offer diverse, interactive and age-appropriate curricula for pre-K through graduate-level students. Classrooms can visit and study Garden State beaches, bays and estuaries in an active outdoor classroom environment.

New 2022-23 field trip guide, in-person field trip experiences.

Reservations are now being accepted for fall 2023 and spring 2024 trips. Group programs are available Tuesday-Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Groups of 15 or more may reserve tours, workshops and Planetarium shows, for descriptions of each see below.

Trenton Public Schools and Title 1 schools receive a 20% discount.

Lunch reservations are available for the lunch room at 225 West State Street, contact reservations at (609) 292-1382 or email [email protected] for more information. Outside picnic tables are available without a reservation on a first-come basis.

Buses must drop off and pick up students at the main entrance (West State Street) and park in the Perry Street lot during the visit.

Plan to arrive at the main entrance 15 minutes before your first program so that students and chaperones can drop off all food and drink in bins provided and receive a Museum Welcome before heading off to reserved programs.

Please Note: All in-person programs are subject to change per COVID-19 health and safety regulations. We reserve the option to reschedule or cancel programs if we are unable to safely serve you.

Safety Guidelines In accordance with the State of New Jersey’s updated guidelines, general masking is not required but recommended based on the CDC’s Community Level data. The Museum’s community is Mercer County.

Guidance for all Community Levels is as follows:

Masks will be available free of charge to both Chaperones and Students upon request.

Homeschools Homeschool groups of 15 students or more are invited to schedule in person and virtual programs, tours and Planetarium shows.

Summer Camp Groups 2024 summer groups (July 9-September 6 2024) will choose from Planetarium public shows at 10:30, 11:30 and 1:30 and a simplified list of workshops options. Please ask about these options at the time of booking.

Examine real fossils, engineer a home, or learn about culture through time! Enhance your field trip with these hands-on experiences, designed around New Jersey's curriculum standards.

We offer workshops for a wide range of grades, from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. All workshops are 45 minutes long and are designed with New Jersey curriculum standards in mind. All workshops can accommodate groups of 15 – 25. Groups with a larger group size will be divided into multiple sessions. Groups of over 200 students cannot be accommodated on the same day but may be divided into multiple days if needed.

Preschool/Early Elementary Workshops [Pre-K – 1st grade] The New Jersey State Museum welcomes our youngest visitors with Small Explorers gallery guides specifically designed for them, age-appropriate Planetarium shows and guided programs focusing on exploring science, art and history through creative play, crafts and storytelling.

Paint Me a Story Art and storytelling go hand in hand as we discover how the art on display tells stories and engages our minds and bodies. Explore color theory and learn to make colors to express yourself.

Dino Motion Discover how dinosaurs and prehistoric reptiles moved through their environments as we combine science and imaginative play. Learn about trackways and what they can tell us about ancient animals.

Planets on Parade Meet our favorite star and the planets in our solar system. Learn the order of the planets and how they orbit around the Sun, then design your own special planet!

Elementary & Middle School Workshops [2nd – 8th grade] Our elementary workshops are for second through fifth graders, and uses scaffolding and inquiry-based learning. These workshops build on topics throughout the museum, allowing a fully comprehensive visit for your group. We offer three elementary workshops focusing on seasons, archaeology, and paleontology.

Our late elementary and middle school workshops are for fourth through eight graders, builds on topics covered in previous workshops and throughout the museum, and introduces more complex concepts to develop critical thinking skills. We offer three middle school workshops that focus on paleontology, engineering, and climate change.

Lenape Culture [2 – 5 grade] Explore Lenape cultural adaptation through the examination of ceramics from the Woodland Period to modern native artistic expressions. Students will practice archaeology in teams to create a pottery model for study. Each student will analyze data from a sherd to develop an artifact record.

Shifting Seasons [2 – 5 grade] What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow? What about in six months? Join us to learn about the reason for the seasons and how we predict the weather.

Junior Paleontologist [2 – 8 grade] Do you have what it takes to be a paleontologist? Explore the history of life on Earth through games and examine real fossils – some hundreds of millions of years old – by using the same skills that paleontologists have.

Hearth & Home [4 – 8 grade] Looking to the Lenape for inspiration, student teams construct home models designed to combat the climate challenges of North American ecosystems.

Changing Coastlines [6 - 8 grade] Using scientific data, explore how New Jersey coasts have changed throughout time and how they’re still changing today. Learn about the impacts of sea level rise and consider possible solutions for the future.

The New Jersey State Museum welcomes Pre-K visitors with gallery guides specifically designed for them, Planetarium shows appropriate for their age and a special natural sciences play space, Discovery Den, designed just for kids pre-K through 2nd grade. In Discovery Den, explore nature in New Jersey through touchable specimens, games, books, puppets, costumes and more! Maximum 15 students at one time with adult supervision in this self-guided space.

Our guided programs focus on exploring science, art and history with Pre-K & Kindergarteners through creative play, crafts and storytelling.

Workshops are 45 minutes long, and are offered Tuesday through Friday. 15-20 students per workshop session; larger groups will be divided into multiple sessions. Minimum group size is 15.

Our Place in Space [3 – 8 grades] We’re all passengers on spaceship Earth! Learn about our place in the universe from astronomer Dr. Jacob Hamer, who will share how astronomers have discovered so much about planets, stars, galaxies, and more.

People of the Past [3 – 8 grades] How do artifacts help archaeologists understand the lives of people in prehistoric and historic New Jersey? Archaeologist Dr. Gregory Lattanzi leads this exploration of the unique artifacts found here, and what they tell us about the lifestyle of people who lived in the state through time.

Career Talks: Paleontology [6 – 8 grades; high school] What does it mean to be a paleontologist? Talk with Paleontologist Dr. Devra Hock-Reid about her path in paleontology and career options within the Earth Sciences and science education

The New Jersey State Museum offers students 4 floors of exhibits exploring the Natural and Cultural history of the State, Archaeology and the Lenape people and a remarkable Fine Art collection. Each long-term exhibit gallery offers printed guides for both pre-K and older students to explore on their own.

Groups may also choose to reserve a guided tour of a specific gallery, led by our expert docent corp. Groups larger than 30 students may be split into multiple tours. Minimum group size is 15 students. Cost: FREE , advanced reservations required.

Live theater returns for the 2022/2023 school year with two performance in the spring. We will announce the shows in our newsletter and on social media when they are confirmed.

To reserve a seat in the show, the fee is $5.00 per person (students and chaperones). The theater seats 384 so large groups are easily accommodated.

We love the idea of teamwork and building teams. That’s what happens on field trips. Students engage, explore and discover together, from the time they get onto the bus to the time they get back. They are actively learning to cope, cooperate and get along. Those are life skills.

Keep the spirit of field trips going. Kids need to keep moving, or even running. Their minds are sponges ready to take in what you give them. If planned properly, field trips can free your students from mundane school work routine, make different connections without the use of cell phones, and make simple connections by doing things together. Many of these trips are designed for exploration, discovery, learning and fun. Also, you will find that many of these venues now offer “at your location” assembly programs, as well as magical entertainers. We hope that you as educators take the opportunity to think out of the box, and explore new and different venues every year!

How it Works

Educators at schools in districts serving a majority of low-income students may apply for grants of up to $700 to cover transportation costs for field trips to arts and culture sites, historical landmarks, nature preserves and science institutions in New Jersey, and to visit college campuses throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

• Funds must be used during the school year in which funding is requested
• All schools with more than 65 percent of students eligible for free or reduced lunch are eligible for FTNJ funding
• Apply for funding by filling out a Field Trip New Jersey Application Form.
• If awarded a grant, the school will be reimbursed upon receipt of the final busing invoice.
• Submit final bus transportation invoices to receive reimbursement for the field trip via email to [email protected] . Invoices must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the field trip. If we do not receive a copy of the invoice at that time, you may forfeit the grant award.
• Go on the field trip! Take pictures and ask students to document their experience in letters, drawings, photos or poems.

Who Can Apply

All public, charter and non-profit private pre-K-12 schools may apply twice per school year.

Field Trip Grant Details

• Total funding per field trip will not exceed $700 and must be used for bus expenses only. A school may submit an application for multiple trips as long as the request does not exceed $1,400 and the trips serve different teachers and students. We encourage teachers to collaborate on trips and on the application process.
• The fund gives priority to field trips in New Jersey that get students outside their districts, although we realize that sometimes there are adventures within the school district that will be appropriate. The fund is not for inter-school travel.
• Schools may apply for funds to transport students on college tours in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, District of Columbia, and Maryland, as well as New Jersey.

Travel to the NJ State House. For Free. Field Trip!

Did you know that you can take your class on a free field trip to the New Jersey State House (aka the State Capitol)?

More specifically, the Eagleton Institute of Politics partners with the Office of Legislative Services and the New Jersey Legislature to offer grants (in the amount of $300) for your trip to travel to the New Jersey State House for a tour .

What Happens on a State House Tour?

I’ve gone on tours multiple times in the past. The experience will vary year to year, based on when you go.

You can be assured that you will get a tour of the State House. The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) has staff on hand to provide tours year round. They’ll meet you at the entrance to the Capitol building, walk you through the Assembly and Senate chambers, and leave you in the museum at the end of the tour. The staff are knowledgeable, and they’ll give you a good tour that’ll last 45 minutes to an hour.

What’s less predictable is the schedule of the Legislature.

If you schedule your tour to coincide with a voting session or a committee meeting, you can assure that your students will see actual Legislators. This is always nice because then your students get to see the state government in action.

Neither Eagleton nor OLS will make sure that you meet with your legislator, so arranging that is up to you. Usually, a legislator’s staff is happy to schedule a quick meeting if it is possible. You can improve your chances of meeting your legislator by scheduling your tour on the same day that he or she has a committee meeting. The last time I toured the state house, our legislator (Sheila Oliver) was serving on the Transportation Committee. We attended the committee meeting, and afterwards she came over to address our group for a few minutes.

This is neither guaranteed nor impossible. It’s really up to you to pick the best possible dates and then reach out to your legislator’s office.

The Logistics of Getting a Grant for Your Field Trip

In order to get the grant money, you’ll have to fill out the application on the Eagleton website. Unless times have changed, they have plenty of funds – you just have to follow the guidelines and fill out the application properly .

There are some basic requirements (i.e. taking a trip of 25+ kids to the state house). So long as you meet these requirements, you should be granted the funds. Applications are processed by Gloria Minor, who works at the Eagleton Institute. I assure you that she is a real person and that she is very nice. If you have any issues, please contact her and be patient. She will do her best to assist you.

As for the amount, will $300 cover the cost? That depends on how far you are from Trenton and what vendor you use for student transportation. I teach in East Orange, and our field trips usually vary from $200 to $400 for a day trip. The $300 grant should cover all or most of your trip. If it doesn’t cover the entire trip, hopefully your administration can come up with the remainder.

Is There Anything Else to Do In Trenton?

Trenton is a wonderful place, and of course there is plenty to do there on a field trip. Unless you’re staying for a lengthy voting session, your State House tour will only take you an hour or so. If you’ve taken a bus a substantial distance to Trenton, you probably want to do something else while you’re there.

Further down State Street, you can find the New Jersey State Museum . It has some natural history artifacts as well as some historical artifacts and pieces of art. My students enjoyed wandering through it.

There is also a tour available at the Old Barracks around the corner from the State House. This will cost you $8 per adult and $6 per student. The last time I went, it was interesting and certainly worth a few extra dollars on your field trip. As long as your budget is above zero, the Old Barracks is worth the time. Students will learn some interesting things about the American Revolution and serving in the military in the late 1700’s.

Virtual field trips are a game changer. And you can’t miss the world-famous Louvre in Paris (no passport needed!). Nickelodeon teamed up with two astronauts on the International Space Station to demonstrate how slime reacts to microgravity and had kids reproduce those same demonstrations back here on Earth. It makes for an amazing 15-minute virtual field trip .

LONDON (AP) — New York Mets owner Steve Cohen says his team can still turn around its season and fans “have been through worse.”

Cohen praised his front office and manager Carlos Mendoza during a news conference Sunday before the Mets rallied for a 6-5 win over the rival Philadelphia Phillies to split their two-game London Series.

The victory left the Mets eight games under .500 just more than seven weeks from the July 30 trade deadline.

“I know everybody’s focused on the trade deadline. That’s all anybody wants to talk about,” Cohen said after posing for photos at the podium with shortstop Francisco Lindor. “We’ve got a lot of games to play. Let’s get focused on what’s happening now. We’ve got to chip away.”

Cohen, who bought the team ahead of the 2021 season, interacted with fans during the London trip.

“They came over here because they love the Mets, they care about the Mets,” said Cohen, wearing a Mets cap and blue vest. “They’re in good spirits. I was hanging out with them in the pub. We were having a blast. The fans have been through worse. We’re trying to break that history. They’re great and they’re certainly going to be there for the team.”

New York has won just two World Series titles, in 1969 and 1986. Cohen, who took over from the Wilpon and Katz families, said the Mets are improving institutionally and decision-making has become “a lot sharper.” David Stearns was hired as president of baseball operations in October after running the Milwaukee Brewers for seven years through 2022.

“I have a great deal of respect for David. He comes from a winning club, he’s demonstrated success in the past, well-respected in baseball,” Cohen said. “I like what I see but unfortunately it’s going to take time.”

A decision-making example, Cohen said, was the recent addition of catcher Luis Torrens, who had two home runs in a 9-1 win over the Washington Nationals last Wednesday. Torrens turned a game-ending double play on Sunday.

Mendoza was hired last November to replace Buck Showalter after spending six seasons as a major league coach across town with the New York Yankees.

“I’m impressed by Carlos. He’s got incredible rapport with the team, he’s thoughtful. He’s very capable of relating to the players, delivering hard messages when he has to,” Cohen said. “I’m impressed by how he conducts himself.”

The Mets were an expensive flop in 2023, finishing fourth in the NL East after beginning the year with World Series aspirations following a 101-win season and a playoff appearance.

Ahead of last season’s trade deadline, the team traded star pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander and several other veterans for minor league prospects. The Mets said they were pointing toward 2025 while still looking to compete in 2024.

In March, Cohen said " the goal is to make the playoffs " this season.

“I do think the team is starting to play better, starting to hit. I’m starting to see green shoots,” Cohen said Sunday.

The team’s shaky defense has been a surprise, he added, a day after right fielder Starling Marte didn’t get to a pop fly with two outs in the fourth inning with the game tied 1-all. The Phillies rallied for five more runs in that inning.

When Cohen was asked about the " bouncy turf " at London Stadium, he pointed to that key play from Saturday.

“The flyball that fell in front of Starling yesterday — that was pretty high,” he said.

Marte said he couldn’t track the ball off the bat because of the sun. He wasn’t in Sunday’s lineup, but Mendoza said the plan coming into London was to limit Marte to one game because of a knee issue the 35-year-old two-time All-Star mentioned before the trip.

Cohen also dismissed the notion that Mets players were jet lagged: “It didn’t affect Philadelphia yesterday. ... These guys are used to traveling.”

It can be hard to pinpoint exactly why a team underperforms, Cohen suggested.

“It’s the variability of human performance. You can write it down on paper but then you’ve got to play the games. Frankly, we haven’t really put it all together for a consistent period of time,” he said. “I still think that can happen. There’s a lot of good ballplayers on this club. It’s just a question of getting a little confidence, getting on a run.

“We’ll see what it looks like four to six weeks from now. The locker room is good, the culture is good. So I’m hopeful.”

Betting guide to 2024 Belmont Stakes with expert predictions, analysis, past performances

The Triple Crown series for 3-year-old thoroughbreds has hit the homestretch.

The 156th running of the $2 million Belmont Stakes is Saturday at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. There won't be a sweep of the Triple Crown but there will be intrigue with Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan and Preakness winner Seize the Gray meeting in their rubber match.

But bettors seem to be looking elsewhere. Sierra Leone opened as the morning line favorite at 9-5 odds while Todd Pletcher-trained Mindframe was the second choice at 7-2.

Coverage of Belmont Stakes Day begins on FS1 Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with FOX picking up the coverage until 7 p.m., before it returns to FS2 until 8:10 p.m.

9. Sierra Leone - Most talented horse in race. Chad Brown changed bits and that will help horse run a straight path. Fully expect a solid enough pace. Strictly the horse to beat. If 8/5 odds, consider it a gift.

3. Mystik Dan - Derby winner and runner up in Preakness, will have to settle for second as Sierra Leone is fresh and waiting for 'em.

6. Dornoch - Longshot play to round out trifecta. If left alone on lead, can be dangerous

2. Resilience - Close to the fast pace in the Derby and had to navigate some traffic on the turn. Figures to move forward off that race. Mott, who is usually conservative, sees fit to enter hinting that this Into Mischief colt is sitting on go.

9. Sierra Leone - Will make his patented late run but may find enough traffic to keep from the winners' circle. The change of equipment to the cage bit indicates Brown still doesn’t have this horse figured out and thus lowers the confidence to back him on the front end.

3. Mystik Dan - The most consistent of this bunch based on his last three races. Must be included in the trifecta.

5. Antiquarian - Continues to develop and Johnny V. knows him. His relatively high purchase price ($250K) for a modestly bred horse indicates the potential to be a good one. Will run from the second pack just behindthe speed (Mindframe, Seize the Grey) and make work out a dream trip.

9. Sierra Leone - The best closer in the race is two noses away from being unbeaten and should get enough pace to run into. If he can avoid lugging in severely - a habit which cost him in both his defeats and should have gotten him disqualified to third in the Kentucky Derby - he should run them down late and give trainer Chad Brown his first Belmont winner.

2. Resilience - He ran a sneaky good race in the Derby, when he finished sixth. Despite racing wide the whole way after breaking from the No. 18 post and making an early move into a pace that collapsed, he was in contention at the top of stretch before tiring. He could get a nice trip just off the pace here.

10. Mindframe - The Todd Pletcher-trainee may be the most talented horse in the race. He's won his first two starts by a combined 21 1/4 lengths and the 103 Beyer Speed Figure he recorded in his debut is the highest Beyer in the field. Mindframe outworked Kentucky Derby favorite and Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion Fierceness two weeks ago. Fierceness is now being pointed to the Haskell Stakes July 20 at Monmouth Park, along with the Bob Baffert-trained Muth. This is a major step up in class, though, for Mindframe.

8. Honor Marie - He was one of the wise guy horses going into the Derby, and then never had a chance with a nightmare trip. It was probably the worst trip any of the 20 horses in the race had. He also could get enough pace to run into and gets a significant rider change due to injury to Florent Geroux.

9. Sierra Leone - The Kentucky Derby runner-up (though he should have been disqualified to third) always fires no matter the race and no matter the pace. His race in the Risen Star was arguably the best prep race performance by anyone and he certainly ran well in the Derby. He'll be coming late and should excel at the distance. 

8.  Honor Marie - He lost his chance in the Derby two seconds after the gate opened. He was pinballed around at the start and jostled for the first furlong. He was then stuck in behind horses into the lane and had to shift way out in the last 3/16ths. He was the wise guy horse going into the Derby, and may well produce his best in this race at a very square price. 

2. Resilience - He ran a sneaky-good race in the Derby. First, being drawn in post 18 did him no favors. He then was hung wide the whole way and made a very early move into a very fast pace before understandably tiring late. He should be able to sit closer to the pace here and save ground. He could impact things at a price. 

3. Mystik Dan - The Derby winner has run quite well in the first two Triple Crown races and he projects to get another very good trip from just off the pace. We will see if he can bring his "A" game for the third time in five weeks.

2. Resilience - This one from Mott is on a cycle upswing and can get the right trip.

4. The Wine Steward - Extra value with this one - Saez is jumping off to stick with Dornoch, leaving this ride vacant until a couple of days ago when Manny Franco got the call.

10. Mindframe - Talented but moving from nw1x to winning the Test of Champions? Not that good but will have a big say.

6. Dornoch - Logical to include in exotics.

9. Sierra Leone - A big prep and strong Derby but the math just doesn't feel right with five weeks off in his particular case. Though in the last 20 editions of the Belmont Stakes we've had 10 winners who went straight from the Derby to the Belmont without a start in between
