Forget the hype around El Nido and the iconic Underground River – Palawan boasts another hidden gem waiting to be discovered: Coron. This tropical island paradise nestled within Palawan’s embrace offers a diverse landscape that goes far beyond the usual beach and cave tours.

Coron’s claim to fame lies in its underwater world, where history buffs and divers alike can explore world-class World War II-era shipwrecks. But dive deeper (figuratively, of course) and you’ll find a kaleidoscope of natural wonders: towering limestone karst formations, pristine Palawan beaches kissed by turquoise waters, crystal-clear freshwater lakes inviting you for a refreshing dip, and vibrant shallow-water coral reefs teeming with life.

To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience, remember to book your tours and vacation packages through a DOT-accredited travel agency . These agencies adhere to strict safety and service standards, ensuring your island adventure is worry-free and unforgettable.

This list of DOT-Accredited Travel Agencies and Tour Operators in Coron is updated as of 21 February 2024 provided by the Department of Tourism.

Coron is a small, laid-back town, but it has a few restaurants serving a variety of international food. If you want to experience the culture of Coron, you can by trying out some of their famous local dishes.

Dining out can be pretty expensive, though, so you'll want to plan your meals strategically. Here are some information on their local cuisine as well as the best places to eat and drink in Coron:

Coron does not disappoint when it comes to their local cuisine. One must-try dish when you're on this side of Palawan is the dish called tamilok, which are woodworms harvested and prepared in kinilaw style.

It is a process wherein the raw seafood will be cooked on vinegar, similar to ceviche. Another one is crocodile sisig, which uses crocodile meat seasoned with onion and chili peppers. You should also try danggit lamayo, which is a fresh, dried rabbitfish marinated in vinegar, pepper, and garlic.

One of the best things to do in Coron is to try out its popular dishes. After all, Palawan as a whole is rich with seafood and other local cuisines.

Now that you know some of their unique specialties, it's time for you to try these at some of Coron's highly recommended best restaurants and bars. Here's a list of the must-try food establishments on the island:

Kawayanan Grill

Kawayanan Grill's speciality Kawayanan Platter

This restaurant with a native motif is perfect for anyone craving for seafood and grilled food. For a sampler plate for sharing, try the Kawayanan Platter (which comes with grilled crab, fish, squid, shrimps, lato (seaweed) and grilled kibiao (clams), which is a local specialty.

Trattoria Altrov'é

Pancetta con Tartufo at Trattoria Altrov’é in Coron, Palawan

This Slovenian-owned restaurant is famous for its pizza and pasta dishes. They also offer vegetarian options and international options. Their pizza is cooked in a wood fire brick oven, served in an authentic Italian style. The ambiance is excellent, plus the restaurant's interiors are reminiscent of a rustic villa.

Bistro Coron

Located in the town center, this restaurant offers Italian and French cuisine. Their primary specialty is pizza and pasta, but they also serve breakfast food such as pancakes and omelets.

Their salad dishes are served with bread, while they offer a variety of dishes such as chicken, pork, and seafood. They also have a variety of wine and drinks such as rum and tonic.

Lolo Nonoy's Food Station

It's a local restaurant serving home-cooked Filipino meals. Some of their sumptuous dishes include chili crab, sinigang (shrimp in sour soup), and gambas (shrimp in garlic). All of their set meals are served with rice and a fried egg. They also offer local beers and appetizers.

When you're in Coron, it's essential to know relevant information regarding the town and the island. For example, the currency and languages. It's a way to respect and blend with their culture and a way to comply with the guidelines on the island:

You can easily withdraw or exchange your money in Coron Town from available ATMs or money changers. Most hotels and restaurant establishments accept credit cards.

And if you're dining in a local food establishment or a tour group, you can settle your payment by paying the local currency Philippine Peso (PHP). Always pay with small bills (50 or 100 PHP) when buying on the streets to avoid the hassle of finding enough change for your money.

The Filipino language is predominantly spoken in Coron, but the majority of the locals can speak English. They also speak other dialects such as Cuyunon and Tinagbanwa. You can ask them about anything, make sure to get your point across as clear as you can with a neutral accent.

It's relatively tropical in Coron, which means you have to protect your skin from the sun's harm. Aside from swimwear and other beachwear necessities, make sure to bring sunblock.

Bring insect repellent with you as well to prevent insect bites. If you plan to snorkel without joining a tour group, bring your snorkeling gear with you. If you plan to trek to Mount Tapyas, bring trekking gear and a flashlight to avoid accidents.

Enjoy a Coron island hopping tour

Most visitors can see the highlights of Coron on four days and three nights tour. For those staying longer, it's easy enough to fill in the extra days with more  island-hopping adventures , particularly wreck diving or a day trip to the historical island of Culion depending on your preference and interests.

2023 Coron Itinerary & Tour Review: 4-day/3-night Family Friendly Guided Tour

2023 Coron Itinerary & Tour Review: 4-day/3-night Family Friendly Guided Tour

During our six-week summer stint in Asia, my family and I joined up with 25 of our extended family members for a jam-packed four-day/three-night tour of Busuanga, Coron, and the islands of the Calamian archipelago in the western Philippines.

Part of Palawan Province, Coron and the Calamianes Islands are about as picturesque as tropical islands go with their translucent blue waters; soft, sandy beaches; colorful sea life; natural hot springs; epic rock formations; and lush greenery.

We spent our days island-hopping, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and, of course, feasting, with guides from Calamian Islands Travel & Tours . Our visit was most definitely a highlight of my six-year-old’s entire trip, and mine, too! Read on about our experience below.

  • Day 4: Shopping & departure

Ruhe Suites

Included in tour package; otherwise ~$30-$60 USD/night

Calamian Islands Travel & Tours seems to run a few hotels, including Ruhe Suites , where our family stayed during our visit. Ruhe is a Santorini-inspired hotel about a five-minute ride outside of Coron town proper. We loved the open layout, pool, and restaurant that served up huge mango shakes. We noticed that the rooms on the first deck (their Deluxe Rooms ) were slightly roomier per-person than the ones on deck two and three.

Two cons: the rooms are outfitted with queen beds only, so be prepared if you’re bunking with someone else. Secondly, I and a couple other family members came down with a bad case of food poisoning on our last morning in Coron, and unfortunately we suspect the chop suey from the hotel restaurant. Bummer, because it was quite tasty the first night we ordered it.

Would I stay again? Yes, but I’d steer clear of the food.

4-day/3-night Family Friendly Coron Itinerary

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

There are a number of tour companies that use similar itineraries, but we enjoyed booking our multi-day tour package with Calamian Islands Travel and Tour company. The English- and Bisaya-speaking guides were kind, knowledgeable, and amazing swimmers and “human-drones” (more on that later!).

Due to our limited time in the area, we chose the four-day, three-night Escapade Package  in order to maximize our sightseeing with guides. Check out our full itinerary below:

DAY 1: Town Tour

This was a great way to ease into our vacation and get a sense of our surroundings.

On the afternoon of our arrival and after settling in for a few hours at our hotel, Ruhe Suites , we were loaded into two large vans and brought to Coron town to visit a souvenir shop and a cashew shop with delicious samples.

We then made the 700-step climb up Mt. Tapyas for sweeping views of Coron town and the surrounding islands. I was amazed that my six-year-old made it to the top with hardly a complaint. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the descent.

We spent the evening relaxing in the pools of Maquinit Hotspring , a privately owned natural hot spring.

For dinner (not included in the tour price), we ate at Lobster King , where our family enjoyed delicious seafood for about $20 USD per person. Our meal was accompanied by live music, and a few of our family even went up to sing and play along, which, after a day full of travel, was a lovely way to cap our evening.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

DAY 2: Super Ultimate Tour

Lakes, lagoons, & coral gardens $30 USD if not purchased with package; ~10 hours

Following the buffet breakfast provided at Ruhe Suites , our guides picked us up around 8 a.m for our Super Ultimate Tour . We made our way to the harbor to await our pump boat that would take us around the Calamian Islands.

Once our group boarded the boat, we were given an orientation by our guides, and were also asked whether we wanted to rent any equipment like snorkeling gear, water shoes, kayaks, and more. Then we sat and wait while the guide stepped off the boat to grab the items for us. This process took longer than expected and I wish we could’ve “ordered” our rentals ahead of time so that they’d be ready for us by the time we boarded our boat.

Finally, once our gear was set, we were off!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Our second tour day was an active one with lots of stops:

  • Kayangan Lake, which included a quick and somewhat steep hike and descent before our swim;
  • Baracuda Lake, where my snorkel gear sank to the bottom, thankfully close enough where a guide could get it!;
  • buffet lunch prepared by our crew, and a pool break at Balinsasayaw Resort ;
  • Snorkeling in two coral gardens (Smith and Twin Peaks); and
  • Kayaking and swimming at Twin Lagoons.

This was my six-year-old’s second time snorkeling (the first being just a few days earlier in Moalboal, Cebu), and she was such a trooper! She had a blast looking at all the fish and swimming her heart out.

My favorite memory on this day was of my family in Twin Lagoons forming a human chain where each person wearing a life vest laid back to float in the water, while holding the feet of another person under their arms. It was so silly, yet quite a relaxing way to enjoy the scenery!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

The waters were especially blue and clear at the start of the day, and I was awestruck by that and the limestone islands that towered above us. By the late afternoon the waves were choppier and the waters felt more muddled.

Our tour didn’t include stops at CYC Beach or Beach 91; the latter was where we were supposed to have lunch but it was apparently too crowded. Even though they look lovely to visit, I don’t feel like we missed out on anything special in these places.

After another day in the books and when we were dropped back off at the hotel, we put in a huge order of McDonald’s for us all to feast on by the pool.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

DAY 3: Island Escapade Tour

Beaches & reefs $30 USD/person if not purchased with package; ~9 hours

Day 3, the Island Escapade Tour , started off similar to Day 2, but our itinerary was much more aligned with life in a tropical paradise: SLOW. As opposed to the day before, we only made three stops, which made sense as they were significantly further away. But it also meant we were able to savor each destination.

Our first stop was to Malcapuya Island, which was not quite a two-hour boat ride from Coron town. Many of us caught a couple extra zZzs on the ride over.

Malcapuya Island was probably my favorite stop on our entire tour—the bright, sandy beach is expansive, clean, and there are loads of colorful clams and fish not too far from the shore. We had so much fun swimming, snacking, snorkeling, and taking portraits 😛

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Our guides were very skilled in the art of the “human drone,” where they take your camera and swish it around, resulting in videos that mimic drone footage. It’s like they’re practicing dance choreography and you get amazing videos as a result!

Before we could leave for our next stop, the tide had gone out so our family had to help the boat crew maneuver our vessel off of Malcapuya. This took the form of folks (mostly the men) getting off the boat, helping push it out of the sand, and moving from one side of the boat to the other to redistribute the weight. We got some cool band photos as a result.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Our next stop was Banana Island for lunch and more snorkeling and swimming. The crew cooked up another excellent meal of seafood and veggies, and prepared this sweet fruit plate for the newlyweds! After lunch we had almost two hours to relax, drink a coconut, and explore the reef.

The tide was quite low at that point, so while the reef was really close to the shore, we had to be very careful in our maneuverings and make sure our life vests and feet weren’t hitting the coral. We saw more clown fish, coral, and even a tiger shark! Plus there was a fish that kept giving me the stare-down.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Our final stop of the day was the Bulog Dos sand bar, which is adjacent to the fancy Two Seasons private island resort. The water was murkier and more choppy at this point of the day, so it was difficult to see. The coolest thing we saw here was a starfish fossil that one of the guides pointed out!

After a short stint at Bulog Dos, we loaded back into the boat to make the long ride back to the harbor, and arrived back at the hotel by 6 p.m., which for my kid meant another couple hours at the pool before bedtime!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

DAY 4: Shopping & departure

After two full days of adventuring through the area, I was excited to sleep in and rest before our flight back to Cebu. I’m extra glad I did because I ended up with full-blown (no pun intended) food poisoning immediately before we left for the airport. UGH. Some of my family members, on the other hand, went back into town for one last bit of shopping, specifically for cashews and treats from Melb’s Cashew Factory , as well as souvenirs like t-shirts and coin purses. We got picked up by Calamian Islands Travel & Tours one last time and made our way back to tiny Busuanga Airport for our departure.

Wishlist for Our Next Visit

Perhaps when my kid is older we can learn how to scuba dive and check out some of the famous shipwrecks in Coron.

And I’d love the chance to stay on a private island resort 😎

What an adventure!

I would highly recommend making the trek to Coron and Palawan with your family if you’re looking for a beach vacation with tons of swimming and sea life. I haven’t visited El Nido or Puerto Princesa, but my family members who have said they preferred Coron for its accessibility (you don’t need to drive 5 hours from the airport to get there!) and its natural beauty. We saw a lot of Pilipino families and groups on our travels, as well as a smattering of tourists from different places.

Looking back at our experiences and photos, I feel so privileged that we had the chance to visit this beautiful slice of nature, and with so much of my family in tow. For me, the can’t-miss highlights on our tour were definitely Malcapuya and Banana Islands, and the Twin Lagoons. I would certainly be excited for our next visit!

Have you been to Coron or the Calamianes Islands?  What would you recommend to other families of color?

CORON 5-DAY ITINERARY: A Budget Travel Guide To Awesome Tours, Cheap Eats and Places to Hit The Sack

In the northern waters of Palawan lies several pristine islands commonly known as the Islands Of Calamianes which are sacred to the northern native tribe of this exquisite paradise, the Tagbanuas. For centuries, these islands have kept to themselves and were concealed from the prying eyes of the outside world where its people have relished the serenity within this breathtaking haven they call home until most recently. The Philippines have made its mark on the world’s tourist map, sensationalized by the more exploited Boracay Island.

With thousands of foreign visitors coming to the country to get a dose of a promising tropical holiday yearly, some have opted to avoid the crowd and began to seek alternatives somewhere else which eventually led them to discover the unsung beauty of Palawan. Dubbed as the country’s last frontier, it started to make headlines in the international scene in the late 90s, drawing the tourist population at first to the natural wonders of Puerto Princesa, slowly spreading it to the off beaten roads of Port Barton down to the quaint little town of El Nido then finally, to the unspoken treasures of Coron.

Coron is a first class and the largest municipality located in the island of Busuanga, the biggest among the islands of Calamianes. This town is progressing quite rapidly with the surge of both local and international tourists being one of the factors boosting its economy. However, Coron isn’t what most people think. There is no seas and sands within town. No jaw dropping beaches. Instead, the town is bustling with local tour operators, restaurants and backpacker hostels. The bay  waters are not made for swimming but for docks, mangroves and houses in stilts. So what exactly is in Coron which is worth calling a paradise? Allow me then to tell you about the Tagbanuas and Coron Island.

The Calamian Tagbanuas are sea loving people who have lived and thrived in the northern coast of Palawan since time immemorial where they call Coron Island their home resorting to fishing and farming as means to live. They are believed to have originated from the Tabon people, one of the original inhabitants of Asia. Coron Island, a formidable fortress of limestone is situated southeast of Busuanga Island which is believed to be keeping nature’s finest creations , an assumption believed  to be true given how privy the Tagbanuas have been of any detail pertaining to the island. They had fought hard battles to retain the rights over their ancestral territory, even drawing boundaries over their waters. In their conquest to protect their land, they had limited the access to visiting tourists to just 2 pristine lakes Kayangan and Barracuda, Twin Lagoon, Siete Picados and few note worthy dive sites within their territorial waters, simply giving the outside world just glimpses of the priceless jewels they have at their disposal. These together with the other secluded islands of Calamianes, is what made Coron stunningly irresistible.

SO HOW DID I MANAGE TO SPEND LESS THAN P8000 IN CORON FOR 5 DAYS?

DAY 1: THE SPECTACULAR SUNSET IN MT. TAPYAS, A SATISFYING DINNER AT BRUJITA BAR AND A RELAXING NIGHT AT MAQUINIT HOTSPRING

I arrived in Coron at 3PM Saturday. I was supposed to arrive Friday but CebuPacific cancelled my 3PM flight and moved it to 1PM the next day. This trip to Coron was part of my 8-Day Palawan Adventure wherein 3 days will be spent in Coron, a day in El Nido, 2 days in Port Barton and a day in Sabang to hike up Mt. Bloomfield.  However the unexpected delay caused a major damage to my planned itinerary forcing me to make some last minute adjustments which ended pretty disastrous. I didn’t book for accommodation in advance. When I arrived in Coron, Marley’s, my chosen accommodation was already fully booked as well as Coron Backpacker Hostel, my 2nd choice. Good thing Krystal Lodge still had plenty of rooms to spare. I stayed with them and managed to get the rate down to P300/day. I hate wasting the hours away so after I settled my stuff, at 4.30PM off I went to hike up Mt. Tapyas to watch the sunset then I had an early dinner at Brujita Bar and Restaurant before going to Maquinit Hotspring.

DAY 2: THE SPECTACULAR CORON ISLAND AND MEETING AWESOME FRIENDS

The following morning I went to JY Travel and Tours to arrange my tour activities. The lodge owner already called them the night before but I still want to personally discusse the prices with them in hopes of getting more discounts. I planned to stick to my itinerary cutting my stay in Coron a day short but it really seemed not enough for me to make the most out of the time I’m there. So instead of leaving Tuesday morning to travel to El Nido, I decided to stay for another day. I opted to go for the Coron Ultimate Tour for this day and I was just glad I did cause I wouldn’t have met these wonderful people in Mang, Drix, Ton, April, Elai, Len, TanTan and Nader (Our tour guide and boat crew) and that day wouldn’t have become one of the best in all my travels. Later at night, I met with my new found friends and had a blast in Kawayanan Grill Station.

DAY 3: BREATHTAKING ISLAND ESCAPADE TOUR

On the third day, I went on Island Escapade Tour with the same group of fun loving people where we explored 3 islands namely Malcapuya, Banana and Bulog Dos all of which were just stunning. Nader was not our tour guide but Charlie tried to fill the gap in his absence. At night we went on a drinking spree in Krystal Lodge. I was their only guest so they allowed me to have visitors. Drix and Mang were heading back to Manila so we wanted to spend some quality time with them and make sure they have some great memories to remember us by. Prior to that, we met with Nader, went to the local market and bought fresh fish for that night’s feasting. We probably went on drinking until 3AM with me losing track of time amidst our boisterous laugh and spontaneous conversation.

DAY 4: THE UNFORGETTABLE REEFS AND WRECKS TOUR

I went on Reefs and Wrecks tour with April where we met Joe and Jack, 2 goofy Scottish brothers with penchant for good laughs. On this day we explored an underwater paradise oozing with colorful corals, various species of fish and other sea creatures and amazing shipwrecks. At night, I had dinner with Nader, April and Elai and went for a drink after. April and Elai were heading back to Manila the following morning but I on the other hand still had no plans of leaving.

DAY 5: MY WORST DAY IN PARADISE

This day, I was supposedly  heading out to travel to El Nido but I changed my mind. I got curious about Mt. Dalara that I asked Nader to be my company as I hike to the rooftop of Busuanga. However, it didn’t go smoothly as planned. I woke up at 3AM that day to a sick stomach which sent me to several trips to the toilet. It drained me of my energy that I missed my 6AM call time. I woke up to a weak and trembling knees at 10AM, finding the simplest tasks to be much of an effort. I reached for my phone to call Nader but he was not picking up. I fell asleep while Nader’s number was on auto redial. At 6PM my eyes opened to complete darkness and the sound of birds coming to rest at a nearby tree. I still felt weak but I forced myself to get up to take care of my stuff as I was to head out the next morning. Before ending the night, I met with Nader and chilled at the bar until the wee hours talking about how much this particular day sucked.

OVERALL EXPENSES WITHOUT AIRFARE OR TRANSPORT COST GETTING OUT OF CORON

WAYS OF GETTING OUT

  • ♦ Fly – Cebu Pacific, PAL and Skyjet have daily flights back to Manila from Coron.
  • ♦ By Ferryboat – There are trips from Coron to El Nido daily and fare can be haggled to as low as P1100 inclusive of Lunch. Trip to Mindoro and Puerto Princesa are also available via Montenegro Shipping Lines and 2Go Ferry. 2Go also plies the Manila-Coron route. Kindly check 2Go Website   for travel schedules.

SOME HELPFUL TRAVEL TIPS

  • ♦ If you are flying to Coron, don’t book a 3PM or a 5PM flight schedule. Chances are these flights are just going to be canceled since Coron Airport runway has no lights and they rely on sunlight for their operations.
  • ♦ Coron town proper is still one hour scenic drive from the airport. If you have not arranged a transfer with your hotel, van transfers are readily available outside the airport and fare is P150/person.
  • ♦ Before your sunnies and stylish one piece suit, a first aid kit should be part of your travel essentials to Coron. Getting sick is really hard, even harder when the nearest hospital is several miles away.
  • ♦ Be careful with what you eat. Always have a bottle of purified water in tow.
  • ♦ Tour agencies in Coron are not too generous with giving discounts unlike those in El Nido and Puerto Princesa.
  • ♦ Tricycle drivers offering inland tour is very common for a price of P300. I suggest you don’t take them. Coron is just a small town. The entry point to Mt. Tapyas is accessible along Coron-Busuanga Road and you can take 2 separate tricycles to go to Maquinit Hotspring and the souvenir shops which you can get for P30 per way.
  • ♦ This trip could cost a lot lesser if you would scrimp a little on food. Just a little. 🙂

There you go lovely people. Coron is such a beautiful place. There are a million of  words to describe this paradise but none of them can truly give justice to the beauty and wonder this once unsung eden possess. I could go on for days telling you how breathtaking this side of Palawan is but that’s nothing compared to experiencing it first hand. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and discover a place like no other you’ve seen before. For inquiries, drop them on the comments box below or send it directly to my inbox. Until next time Ciao. 🙂

Budget travel guide to Coron, Palawan

COMPLETE Travel Guide to Coron, Palawan + 5 Days Itinerary

Coron is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines and one of the top attractions in Palawan. It’s mostly famous for Kayangan Lake — which is said to be one of the cleanest lakes in Asia. Coron has numerous islands which you can explore through island hopping boat tours, lagoons, and WW2 shipwrecks that are popular among freedivers and scuba divers.

Solo travel to Coron, Palawan

For me, it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in the Philippines. In fact, for foreign travelers who plan to visit the country, it would be my topmost recommendation.

Aside from its beautiful nature attractions, another thing that I like about Coron is that it’s budget-friendly, even for solo travelers like me. Even though tour rates aren’t standardized yet, the rates for accommodation and tours are reasonable. I’m going to share several budget tips to Coron here with you!

El Nido to Coron

When to visit, how to get around, 1. coron island tour a, 2. coron island tour b, 3. island escapade tour c1, 4. island escapade tour c2, 5. reefs and wrecks, 6. coron island ultimate tour, calauit safari tour, culion island tour, coron town tour, fireflies and plankton tour, where to book tours, where to eat, most recommended resorts, budget-friendly resorts, 5 days itinerary to coron, budget tips, budget and expenses, what to read next:, how to get to coron, manila to coron.

The easiest way to get to Coron is by booking a flight to Busuanga Airport.

  • Take a local flight to Busuanga Airport. Cebu Pacific offers the cheapest year-round fares.
  • From Busuanga airport, there will be vans waiting that can take you to Coron (P150, 30-40 minutes). If you’re in a group, you can also hire the entire van (P1500). From the drop-off point, take a tricycle to get to your accommodation.
  • 2Go has weekly trips from Manila to Coron. The port is located in Pier 4 in Tondo, Manila. Travel time is 11 hours; fare is about P1400+ per person depending on how early you book and your ticket class. Book ferry tickets from Manila to Coron here .
  • From the Coron pier, walk for 15 minutes to the town proper or ride a tricycle.

There are ferries from El Nido to Coron. For regular ferry, travel time is 4 hours; fare is P1760. Book ferry tickets from El Nido to Coron here .

Things to know before you go

Here are some information about Coron, Palawan:

  • Coron is safeguarded by the indigenous tribe of Tagbanua. As such, some places are considered sacred and off limits.
  • Be respectful. Wear a coverup when walking on streets.
  • There are ATMs in Coron.
  • Most establishments accept cash only, but some resorts and establishments also accept major credit cards.

Drone shot in Coron, Palawan

As in most destinations in the Philippines, the best time to go here is during summer  where there is guaranteed good weather.

However, going during off-peak season has its perks too. You can avoid the huge summer crowd and even get discounted rates on rooms and tours. I love traveling during off-peak season for these reasons, moreso in Palawan which is rarely affected by the typhoon season. There might be cloudy skies or a bit of rain, but it doesn’t experience heavy rain as other places such as Manila .

Coron town proper is small so almost everything is walking distance. Alternatively, you may also ride tricycles for a minimum fee.

On the day of your flight departure, you can ask assistance from your hotel’s receptionist to schedule a van pickup to the airport since the vans follow a daily schedule.

Island hopping tours

Island hopping is the main activity offered in Coron. Each island hopping tour is different, but mainly you will get to see beaches, lakes particularly Kayangan Lake which is considered the cleanest lake in Asia, and snorkel in underwater coral areas and shipwrecks. During island hopping, you will also get to see the iconic photo in Coron: an islet surrounded by clear turquoise water that is the Coron Bay.

Each tour may differ depending on the agency, but joiner tours are generally the same in terms of places to visit. As said above, there are no standardized tours in Coron so rates may vary per agency.

Tour A is a great start for your island hopping experience. It takes you to several beaches and snorkeling areas, as well as the famous Kayangan Lake. If you like snorkeling, I suggest you explore the surrounding waters in CYC Beach. Most people stay on the shore, but it actually has one of the best underwater spots I’ve seen during my stay there.

  • Places to see : Las Islas de Coral, CYC Beach, Atwayan/Sunset beach, Quin Reef, Green Lagoon, Kayangan Lake
  • Book your tour via Klook

View deck in Kayangan Lake, Coron

This takes you to more snorkeling spots in Coron. But the true highlight of this tour is the Twin Lagoon, which features dazzling-blue lagoons against a backdrop of karst formations.

  • Places to see : Barracuda Lake, Smith Beach, Skeleton Wreck, Reef Garden, Twin Lagoon

Twin Lagoon in Coron

This is a new tour which includes Malcapuya Island and other islands in Coron.

  • Places to see : Coco Beach, Waling-Waling Island, Malcapuya Island

This tour takes you to three beautiful islands in Coron. The islands are located a bit far compared to other island hopping stops (about 2 hours), so majority of your time will be spent on the boat ride. Again, if you like snorkeling, you will enjoy Banana Island with its giant clams and Malcapuya Island wits its big schools of fishes.

  • Places to see : Bulog Dos Island, Banana Island, Malcapuya Island

Malcapuya Island in Coron, Palawan

This is the best tour for those who enjoy snorkeling and freediving, as you will be taken to a vast coral garden (lazily named Coral Garden) where it’s possible to get sightings of sea turtles and the shipwreck sites. The shipwrecks can be seen even from the surface. This is a fun tour; my only complaint during my tour is that each stop is too short so there’s not much time to linger and enjoy the underwater scenes.

  • Places to see : East Tangat, Pass Island, Coral Garden, Lusong Gunboat
  • Rate : P1300 per person

Shipwreck in Pass Island, Coron

If you want to see the best island hopping spots in Coron in one tour, you can avail of the Coron Island Ultimate Tour. If you’ve already taken the rest of the tours, there’s no need to get this one.

  • Places to see : Siete Pecados, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Smith Beach, Skeleton Wreck, Las Islas de Coral, CYC Beach
  • Rate : P1500
  • Island hopping starts at at 9AM up to 4 or 5PM. If you’re availing of a joiner tour, make sure to get to the port early and keep track of time at all times so other joiners wouldn’t have to wait for you.
  • The tour includes lunch buffet and water.
  • Rental for snorkeling set and/or aqua shoes are not included (P150 each).

Other tours in Coron

If you want a little break from the sea, there are other tours in Coron you can avail.

As its name suggests, the highlight of this tour is the Calauit Safari . The safari is home to various endemic and imported wildlife, such as giraffes. It’s about 3 hours away from the town proper, and as such pickup is usually at around 4AM.

Other places to see may vary depending on the travel agency offering this tour. Others may include side trips to town attractions while others offer snorkeling sites to be visited along with Black Island.

  • Places to see : Calauit Safari Sanctuary, Isla Paraiso, Busuanga town proper, Malbato Church, (Optional) Black Island

Culion Tour is an underrated tour in Coron. It takes you to Culion, which was once a leper colony. Today, it’s a charming town with various historical landmarks.

  • Places to see : Culion Church and Forest, Aguila Viewpoint, Culion Museum and Archives, Bogor Marine Park.

If you have half a day, you can take a Coron town tour where you can buy souvenirs and take home cashew, which is one of the local products in Palawan. Other highlights include Maquinit Hot Spring, a natural hot spring within a mangrove  forest, and Mount Tapyas which is a favorite spot for island hopping.

The tour is also doable DIY as you only need to commute via tricycle to get to the destinations for minimum fare. If you’re going to Maquinit Hot Spring, a private tricycle costs P300 good for 4 people; the driver will wait for you. Entrance fee is P200 per person.

  • Places to see : Lualhati Park, cashew shop, souvenir shop, St. Augustine Church, Mount Tapyas and Maquinit Hot Spring

Culion in Palawan

This is a magical tour wherein you can see fireflies and bioluminiscent planktons. The tour starts at 6PM to 9PM, with buffet dinner.

  • Rate : P950 per pax

There are various travel agencies in Coron, Palawan. You can just walk around the Coron town proper and book for a tour, at least a day before. Regardless of your choice, I highly suggest that you give a tip to your boatman/guide especially if you’re happy with their service!

Here are your options:

  • Joiner tours . The easiest and most convenient option, whether you’re solo or with companion(s).
  • Private tours . If you’re in a group, you might want to get a private tour (i.e., per-person rate is the same as joiner tour, but it will be exclusive to your group) or you may find your a private boat to rent. If you choose the latter, take note that you will have to buy your own food in the market for cooking during the tour and pay the entrance fees, which are not included in the rental rate. The advantages of this is that it’s cheaper and you can dictate which places to go and which time, which is useful if you want to escape the crowds. Moreover, you can also stop over beach coves not included in the usual island hopping tours.

There are a number of restaurants in Coron where you can enjoy local delicacies and other cuisines. Here are the most recommended ones:

  • Kawayanan Grill . This restaurant offers reasonably priced seafood platters.
  • Santino’s Grill . A popular restaurant famous for their baby backribs
  • Sea Dive Restaurant or La Sirenetta . A great option especially for sunset viewing.

I recommend La Sirenetta which has good ambiance and food.

If you’re on a budget, there are carinderias in Coron where you can buy meals for around P100 per person.

Where to stay

The great thing about Coron is that it offers a range of accommodations, starting from budget-friendly fan rooms and dorms to mid-range resorts and even luxury island resorts.

Here are some accommodation highlights. You can also check out our separate article on the Best Resorts in Coron Palawan .

Here are some of the most recommended resorts and hotels in Coron:

  • Two Seasons Coron Island Resort and Spa . This is a 5-star luxury accommodation, considered one of the best in Coron. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Club Paradise Palawan . A private island resort with its own spa and pool. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Sunlight Ecotourism Island Resort . One of the most beautiful resorts in Coron, with luxurious water villas. Book discounted rooms here.

Club Paradise Resort in Coron, Palawan

Here are some of the recommended budget accommodations in Coron, Palawan:

  • Coron Westown Resort . A popular laid-back accommodation with outdoor pools. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Seahorse Guesthouse . This guesthouse offers dorm-type accommodation, with free breakfast. It has a rooftop area where you can eat and which features a nice view of the ocean. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Coron Paradise Bed & Breakfast . A good option if you want a private room in a budget, with free breakfast. It’s close to major establishments such as restaurants and souvenir shops. Book discounted rooms here.

I recommend staying at least 5-6 days in Coron. If you wish to maximize your time, you can avail of the Coron Ultimate Island Tour and other 1-2 island hopping tours and the rest exploring Calauit Safari or Cuyo Island. If you’re into diving as well, I suggest adding 2-3 days more to your itinerary.

Anyway, here’s a sample 5 days itinerary to Coron.

As island hopping tours normally start at 9AM, if you arrive in Busuanga Airport at 7:30AM or earlier, you still have time to drop your bag at your accommodation and join a tour.

Here are important budget tips so you can still enjoy Coron without breaking the bank!

  • Snorkel and aqua shoes rental are not included in island hopping tours, which are rented out at about P150 each. If you’re going to stay for a few days, it’s best to buy or bring your own equipment. I got my own snorkeling set for less than P1000 and I’ve used it in other locations besides Coron.
  • If you’re in a group, you may look at all-in tour packages. However, if you’re solo or in two’s, it’s cheaper to book the island hopping tours and accommodations separately. This advice was given to me by a travel agent when I inquired about rates.
  • It’s cheaper to do the Coron Town Tour on your own, as the attractions can be visited via commute with tricycles. This is especially true if you’re in a group.
  • For cheap eats, there are carinderias selling meals at about P100. Another favorite backpacker spot is the ihawans in the port area, where you can buy grilled chicken, pork and seafood for cheap.

Here are the current rates in Coron. These are per person rates.

Usually you only have to worry about dinner. Breakfast is often served complimentary in hotels and tours include lunch buffet.

For 5 days, a safe budget would be P9000-10,000 per person .

Hello Katherine! We will be going to Coron on Oct 21-25. We are 11 in a group but 8 persons will be leaving on the 3rd days, so unluckily 3 of us will remain. Can you give me some recommendations please. Should I book with the package tour including accommodation and land transfer or is it cheaper to have it separately?

Katherine Cortes

It depends on the package rate and inclusion. 🙂 You can compute naman saan kayo makakatipid.

Can I ask for the contact number of the tour package you availed. thanks po 🙂

Hi! Your blog inspired me to book a solo trip to Coron. Just a question though: how did you handle your phone & money while swimming? Did you leave them behind or bring them with you in the water?

Hi Aly! Good question. Hmm. Because I was on tours I just leave my bag on the boat ahahaha.

Hi Katherine, very helpful post. Thank you. We are planning to visit Coron in December 2019 for 4D3N. We will be 8-10 people (family)on a tight budget. How much should we save per person for all expenses including airfare and lodging? Thank you!

Hi Katherine! I read that you spent 8k on this trip. Did you go there via cebpac or 2go? Coz I’ve been checking out cheap flights and so far 7k is what I’ve seen. We’re going there for our cousin’s wedding in March next year. Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

7k RT is expensive. Try to wait for promos. Cebu Pac frequently holds them. 🙂

Thanks for the blog as I it really helps me picture out how to do my itinerary..Planning to visit Coron this September for our 5th Anniversary

Irene Arquero

Thank you so much i found your blog. Anyway will plano namin pupunta ng Coron sa First week ng January we have six peoples in the group from age 11 years old to 60 years old. Any recommendations From the beginning to the end of our trip? This is our first time.

Overall experience to Seahorse Guesthouse? I am considering this hotel for our family vacation in Coron.

Hi, the Seahorse Guesthouse has dorm rooms and fit for solo/couple backpackers. You might want to check other resorts if you’re coming with your family.

Hi! Sorry if this had been asked, I tried searching past comments!

For booking your tours, did you pre-book all of them online or did you wait until you arrived to walk to their booth and then book them?

I actually just texted them a day before, if I remember correctly. But this was low season. During high season it’s recommended to pre-book.

Hi, Is it wise to go in July ?? It’s raining most of the days. Kindly advise !!!

Hi, will travel 2nd or 3rd week of Nov, do you suggest to look for travel packages in Coron or book prior? Thanks

I always find it prudent to book prior or at least do pencil reservation. 🙂

Hi! Im really glad i came across this blog, this is helpful, we’ll be in coron on the 31st of October to the 3rd of November and we’re booked at SeaHorseguest house (me,my hubby and our son) i want to know the most practical tour we can get since we’re traveling with our 12y/o kid. Thanks! And can we just book it with seahorse?

Hi. I happened to leave a comment in this post some few months ago, and since then i’m receiving notifs that I’m not even involved in. Ummm, how can I unsubcribe po? I need to know po sana. Thanks.

Hi Michelle, sorry abt that! Usually there’s an unsubscribe button in email notifications. Let me know if you’re still having problems.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love this blog & and it helped me a lot during my trip.. Maybe I only need to adjust notification settings. 🙂 Thank you po..

Hey, I‘m also heading to Coron as single traveler and I‘d like to do some of the tour packages you have mentioned in your blog. However, I cant find a link or name of the agency that provided exactly these Tour A etc. packages. Can you name it? Many thanks!!

We literally allotted a whole subsection for the travel agencies and even gave links for their pages. : )) I got the tours from JY Travel and Tours.

I was in Coron just last week, travelled solo as well. Booked my tour from Alherini Travel Services in facebook, and I must say, they are Legit, accomodating and very smooth to transact with. Hope that helps.

Hello! Do you know if still perfect to have a vacay during the month of oct. (this year)?

I’m not sure if it’s going to be “perfect.” 🙂 June-November is the rainy season so it really depends on the weather, but the good news is Palawan doesn’t really experience strong typhoons. You might still get a lil bit of rain here and there tho.

Hi! I’d like to ask for advice on how I can have a worthy vacation to Coron for 3D2N only. I want to travel solo and as much as possible not to join groups. Thank you so much!

Then you should hire your own private boat. 🙂 Afaik for packaged tours you’ll still be with other people, so this is probably the best choice.

Good day po! Meron po kayong idea if every anong oras bumabyahe ang van sa airport going to coron town proper?

We don’t know the timetable for the vans, but take note that Coron is a major attraction in Palawan and so with the influx of passengers, there are always public vans outside the airport. If unsure, you can always contact your resort/accommodation; they are affiliated with those doing airport transfers.

Hi Katherine we’re planning to go there with my partner. Is there any boat to rent in the pier area? I want to DIY my travel and i dont want to book tours. Which is more cheaper DIY or TOUR Agency?

Yep, you can go to the pier but I’m not sure about the availability during summer.

DIY or tour agency — it depends. If there are only 2 of you I’d go for joining a group tour instead.

Hi Duke. I recommend Jon for private boat in Coron. You can ask them how much is the rate. This is worth considering if you want to enjoy the place on your own and you can choose which tourists spots you can visit. Though you have to shoulder the entrance fees and you have to buy your own food in the market for cooking later on.

We hired JON, ARMAN, & STANLEY our boatmen/tourguide for 2 days island hopping. They’re helpful, kind and they made our Coron trip worth remembering ❤️

For private boat: ■JON(Boatman in Coron): +639955287803 +639218139568

For solo or couple travelers it’s more cheaper if you get a tour at local travel agency, you dont need to think about your food and entrance fees since it is included in the package.

Hi, I just want to ask. Is solo travelling to Coron safe? I want to assure my mom that it’s safe, or else she won’t allow me to go. And I already have tickets for April. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Yes. I’m wondering where your mom got the idea that it might not be safe. Coron is pretty well known even abroad.

Hi! I’m visiting Coron on april 30 to may 4 2018, i will traveling alone is it not really that bad? it will be my first solo travel. Will I still be able to enjoy the tours and have an overall great time?

It largely depends on you haha. But this was my first solo travel and I loved it. 🙂

Hi! I’m thinking of going to Coron this March, it will be 3D2N. Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Island and Maquinit Hot Spring are the places I want to visit. It would be my first time to travel alone. Just want to ask for help in planning my itinerary or how do I get there without joining tours.

You can rent a private boat if you don’t want to join tours. Maquinit hot spring can be reached via tricycle. 🙂 You can visit all those in ome day.

Hi! Nice blog, i enjoyed reading it. We will be travelling as a couple on Feb 27 to Mar 3. We plan to rent a private boat instead of joining a group. The cheapest rate provided to me is 3700/pax for the Coron Island Tour. And 4800/pax for the Malcapuya, banana and bulog beaches. Rates included all entrance fees, food, licensed tour guide. Do you think the rate is reasonable? Or i can find better deal once i arrive at Coron?

I think the price is reasonable because there are only two of you. You can also try looking for a travel agency/boat owners who’ll agree on a rate per boat (not per person) and see if it’ll be cheaper. Last time I was there boat rental is 2000-2500, entrance fees and lunch not included. Not sure if the rate is the same for the three beaches you mentioned because those are a bit far.

Hi! I’m visiting Coron on July 2018, so I’ll be expecting some rain 🙁 Given it rains, is it really that bad? Will I still be able to enjoy the tours and have an overall great time?

We love to travel during the rainy season because of fewer crowds, lower rates. 🙂 If it’s just a little bit of rain, you’re still good to go. But if there’s a strong typhoon, tours might get cancelled. In general though, Palawan rarely experiences strong typhoons as in other parts of the PH… so you’d be terribly unlucky to be stuck in one. Good luck!

Good day, Ask ko lng po if anu masuggest mo maam. Me and my cousins will be going this coming august, we are 4 in the group, is it ideal and cheaper if we will do DIY or avail a package for the whole tour? Thank you for your response

I think since there’s 4 of you it’s better to get a private boat (DIY). 🙂 It’s cheaper overall and you get to do your own itinerary.

Hi! Do travel tour agencies allow grouping solo travellers for private tours instead of letting them join with the group tours? This is to allow more flexibility on the itineraries instead of feeling rushed.

Yes. 🙂 You can rent a private boat if they offer it (with your own itinerary) or go on a private group tour (following their itinerary).

Coron looks lovely. I have not been to the Philippines yet, but it is on my bucketlist! I see you did 4 tours? Would you recommand that? Did you meet loads of people on those tours? x

Yes and yes. 🙂 I liked the first three tours. I wasn’t impressed with tour D, but I heard it’s a popular choice because of the coral garden. I did meet lots of people because I joined group tours. Hope you decide to visit here!

I love solo travel and I’m looking at Coron for next year. Is it possible to request for a budget breakdown of your 5-day stay? 🙂 Thank you so much and i wish you more travels today, onward!

Hi Monica. I already have a whole section for budget and expenses in this post. 🙂

Camille Umagat

I’m going to Coron this November. Isn’t it awkward to go on tour without any friend/s?

Nope. But you will probably get asked a lot why you’re alone or if you’re heartbroken… or something along those lines. 🙂

Marice S. Batiao

Hello, I’m planning for a solo trip this September. Do you have to book the tour in advance or you can just get book then and there on a cheaper price. Also, I’m going on a weekday, there might be no group tours available. Thank for the help.

Even in off-peak season it’s best to book in advance. There are group tours even on weekdays. 🙂

Hi! I’m going to Coron this January and I’m also booked at Seahorse Guesthouse! I just wanted to ask if they provide the guests with free towels? Also, do guests need to bring their own padlock for the locker or do they also provide them?

Hi Martin, yes the inn provides towels and a padlock.

  • Buy Us a Coffee!

When planning a trip to Coron, it’s paramount that you know what to expect from each month so you can make an informed decision about when you want to go. Coron is one of those places that does have some weather extremes, so you will find a big difference between each season.

There are mainly two big seasons in Coron, each that need to be considered when considering to visit Coron. First, there is the rainy season, which is from mid-June to September. This is when Coron’s skies open up the heavens, a lot of places are closed, and it may be unpleasant to visit! However, if you do go during this season, there are obviously dry days when you can do some exploring.

The second is the dry season, this season runs from October to mid-June. This is a more ideal time to visit, as the sun is out and shining! The heat can get extreme, but there are plenty of places for you to cool off and escape from the sun, so it’s fantastic. You won’t be in for much rain at all during this season, and days are consistently hot.

You can expect Typhoons from June to October, so if you plan on doing a lot of boat trips, this won’t be the best time to visit. They don’t usually hit Coron directly, but it does affect the tides.

Ultimately, the most relaxed time to visit is in the dry season, but if you do go during the rainy season, you can still have fun!

Coron offers an endless amount of laid-back, exquisite places for you to stay. No matter which area in Coron you pick , you are bound to feel like a new person by the time you leave. We will share with you some of our favorite places to stay in Coron, so you have a better lay of the land on your Coron itinerary.

Coron Town Centre is a place booming with the local atmosphere. You may not see it at first glance, but this place is wonderful! You will be able to take part in the local markets, and you can enjoy what it feels like to be surrounded by the authentic life of the islanders. This is also the best place to stay if you’re wanting to eat your way through Coron, as there is every type of Filipino meal served here.

The West Coast of Busuanga Island is a wonderful place to stay! Busuanga is Coron’s main island and offers plenty for everyone. It’s easy to get to and from this area and navigate around Coron from here. You will be right on the coast and able to enjoy astounding views and magnificent sandy shores daily. The island vibe is contagious in Busuanga!

The North Coast of Busuanga is also a popular spot to stay! As it is still part of Coron’s main island, it is very close to all of the major attractions and beaches. However, you will feel a sense of tranquility here, as it’s not as bustling as the other places on the island. Enjoy a secluded destination that you can recluse back to after a day out in Coron!

This luxury resort is found right smack-bang on the stunning beachfront and is overflowing with recreational activities and elegant rooms. You can even find luxury bungalows! Enjoy the best of the best at this top-notch hotel.

When deciding how long to stay in Coron, it depends on what you want to do and see. I will share everything you need to know about the best way to get around on this Coron Itinerary! You will need to know which options work the best, so that you can effortlessly get to where you need to go.

One of the best and most obvious ways to get around is via boat. You will find docks and harbors on every major island in Coron bay. These can vary in cost, but most are quite affordable. It’s the boats that take you to the big sites that can start to cost a lot, but then it is very much worth the extra buck.

You can also consider flying, as there are some airports dotted around Coron. This is not as expensive as it sounds, and it is a fun alternative to boats if you struggle with sea sickness. Coron’s main island, Busuanga, has a wonderful airport!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Habal-Habals are the best way to quickly get from A to B on land! They also offer you the chance to experience the Philippine’s signature traveling modes, something that has started since the boom of tourism. These are very cheap, and often the local driving you has a fantastic idea of where all the best places are and can take you to some more off-the-beaten-track destinations.

Walking in Coron is wonderful, but it isn’t the best way to get around. Taking a few strolls or walking between bars is one thing, but facing the beating sun during the day on a long-distance walk is not going to be pleasant.

Lastly, you can rent a bike. This is the best way for those of you traveling in pairs or alone. You can choose your timing and feel free as you explore the many winding routes of Coron!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

On top of the wild vibe, there is also a lot to enjoy about the surrounds of this beach. You can stroll a long stretch of white sand shores and gaze out at the clear blue ocean waters. You will also spot breathtaking limestone cliffs, one of Coron’s signature features. The beach also boasts a bunch of mangrove forests that are dotted around, so be sure to explore those whilst you are there!

The locals of Coron are so confident about the truly entrancing beauty of their homeland that they have gone to the lengths of building a super cool Hollywood-style sign at the top of Mount Tapyas to show to everyone that they are in Coron. This giant sign has become a symbol of the town’s ever growing tourism industry, and it celebrates the magic that Coron brings into the world of travelers from all over the world.

Mount Tapyas is the second tallest mountain in Coron, and it shadows over the town, even though it is only 210 meters high. It makes one wonder…what are the views from on top there like? Well, on this Coron Itinerary, you will find out.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

There are steps at the foot of the mountain that lead you all the way to the top, and it is well worth the effort you will expend getting there! You will find plenty of resting points where you can take a breather and relax under some shade. You will ascend 721 steps, so be prepared for a workout! We promise, you will be glad you did it.

Insider Tip: The heat in Coron can be extreme, which is why going later on in the day is better. The later timing also allows you the opportunity to see some outrageous sunsets!

For a comfortable stay in a quirky hostel, Hop Hostel is the place! If you prefer to stay in hostels, these are the BEST hostels in the Philippines.

Wanna know how to pack like a pro? Well for a start you need the right gear….

These are packing cubes for the globetrotters and compression sacks for the  real adventurers – these babies are a traveller’s best kept secret. They organise yo’ packing and minimise volume too so you can pack MORE.

Or, y’know… you can stick to just chucking it all in your backpack…

Kayangan Lake | Lusong Coral Garden | Atwayan Beach | Concepcion Falls | Banol Beach

This two day itinerary in Coron is jam-packed with the most exciting activities! During the second day of your trip to Coron, you will be enjoying even more sites and attractions, including a visit to two of Coron’s exquisite beaches.

Day 2 / Stop 1 – Kayangan Lake

  • Why it’s awesome: A famously stunning water pool in Coron!
  • Cost: $6 USD per person
  • Food Recommendation: Santino’s Grill will provide you with a mouthwatering breakfast to kickstart your adventures!

Coron is brimming with places that make remarkable photo backdrops, and one of the most photographed places in the Philippines is none other than the beautiful Kayangan Lake! The most astounding part about this lake is the viewpoint, where you will get a full look over Boron Bay and enjoy an incredible coastal beachscape.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

The waters of Kayangan Lake are said to be the cleanest and clearest in the entire Philippines! Right from the moment you see this lake, you can feel why it is so special to locals and tourists alike. The turquoise water is clear as day, and you can see the fish swimming about through the surface as you take a dip!

This mesmerizing lake is a spot that has put Coron on the map for many travelers, and you can bask in the splendor of this magical place on our Coron itinerary!

Join this full day adventure to explore the various destinations and beaches of this stunning location. Expert guides will show you the natural beauty and exclusive features of the island.<

Day 2 / Stop 2 – Lusong Coral Garden

  • Why it’s awesome: A must-see coral site in Coron!
  • Cost: Free! You will have to hire a boat and snorkeling equipment though.
  • Food Recommendation: Enjoy a classy setting with magnificent food at Ricardo’s Island! This restaurant is especially family-friendly, and the staff are wonderful.

The Lusong Coral Garden is a hidden gem in Coron that most tourists miss on their visits, making it appealing to those seeking more off-the-beaten-path kinds of sites. This coral garden has a huge history and has been named after the Lusong Shipwreck. This ship used to be a WWII vessel, and it is now an amazing dive and snorkel site for everyone to enjoy in Coron!

The Lusong Coral Garden has become over time one of the top-rated reefs in Coron, and it is only lightly visited due to its location. In comparison to the popular lagoons and beaches of Coron Island, this site is a bit more complicated to reach. You will need to hire out a boat with a guide who knows where to go, but once you get there, it is a true ocean haven!

Two people taking a selfie whilst scuba diving.

The coral garden is an unbelievable spot for freediving, snorkeling, swimming and even just relaxing by to admire the shipwreck from the surface of the waters. You can also gaze around you at sheer drop-offs of the Lusong Coral Garden’s limestone cliffs! If you visit here, be sure to protect our waters by practicing good coral etiquette .

Insider Tip: This site is best enjoyed with an underwater camera! You will want to capture the sites of much tropical fish darting about on the abandoned ship that is now covered in coral and barnacles.

Day 2 / Stop 3 – Atwayan Beach

  • Why it’s awesome: A secluded area to catch a breath and enjoy Coron!
  • Cost: USD $2 per person
  • Food Recommendation: The beach has a simple eatery where you can get a quick meal and a sweet cool drink to wash it down with.

This lazy beach is a must-see place on our Coron itinerary, and it is a great place to reminisce about your journey and take a break from the crowds. The super laid-back atmosphere is welcome after a day of adventure! Chilling out on the benches and having a cool drink here is a wonderful way to sightsee in Coron with minimal effort, so you can rejuvenate before the next stop.

The ocean water in this open, wide beach, is just the right temperature and depth for frolicking! You can mess around with friends, and even play with some of the local kids in a game of soccer. The water is very clear, so you won’t be able to resist the urge to take a dip, and you can even do a quick kayaking excursion whilst you are here.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Another activity to do at Atwayan Beach is snorkeling! You will find some of the most beautiful corals on the left-hand side of the beach, but don’t expect to see many fish. The ones you do spot will be relatively large and territorial.

Atwayan Beach may not be the most beautiful white sand beach on this itinerary for Coron, but it really is the most unique and perfect spot for a short nap, a swim in the water and a few drinks.  There’s also a rad beach volleyball court if you feel up for a game!

Day 2 / Stop 4 – Concepcion Falls

  • Why it’s awesome: A chance to see more of Coron than the pristine beachscapes!
  • Food Recommendation: K-Sarap Express has a unique atmosphere where you can truly relax, and their food is fantastic!

Most people when they travel to Coron assume that all there is worth seeing on the island is it’s famous lagoons, lakes, beaches and islands. While these certainly are a highlight, Coron offers so much more than that if you’re willing to try out the less touristy spots.

For a more unusual, sort of off-the-grid experience, the Conception Falls is the best! You can breathe in the fresh island air, walk through densely vegetated ecosystems and find yourself in the heart of a jungle! This magnificent place is spotted on the west of Busuanga Island, and it’s cheap to hop on a habal-habal and reach it.

Concepcion Falls

The falls are a secluded gem! You won’t find huge crowds, and you can enjoy serenity in one of the most beautiful places to visit in Coron. This stunning little oasis has a waterfall that will take your breath away! It pours out into a beautiful large green-blue waterhole that is surrounded by rich, tropical jungle leaves and plants. There are also small spurts of the waterfall that trickle down from the cliff walls.

Insider Tip: The gorgeous waterfall runs downstream into Conception Town, so you can even enjoy rapid floating if you get tired of freediving into the picturesque clear waters!

Day 2 / Stop 5 – Banol Beach

  • Why it’s awesome: This beach has distinctive limestone rocks and beautiful coral gardens!
  • Food Recommendation: La Sirenetta Seafood Restaurant & Bar is a stylish place to enjoy dinner that tastes like it was just fished out from the ocean! Enjoy the last night of your 2 day itinerary for Coron and indulge in a few fun cocktails.

Banol Beach is one of the most popular and fun beaches on Coron Island. This beachscape is teeming with natural wonders, both underwater and on the sandy shores that truly enchant tourists!

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

You will find this beach situated in the northwestern part of Coron Island, just waiting to welcome you with open arms. Banol Beach’s most distinctive characteristics are its limestone walls, and diverse, colorful coral garden!

You can enjoy sunbathing and watch as the sun sets over the tropical horizon! Watch as the golden rays light up the underwater paradise and the fish begin to sparkle with life just before the sun goes down. Enjoy the last few moments of your unforgettable journey on this Coron trip itinerary!

Bulog Dos Island | Malcapuya Island | Chindonan Island | Bayside Plaza | Skeleton Wreck

If you are spending 3 days in Coron, we have all the best places to visit in Coron! Our complete, and compact itinerary in Coron will cover every island worth visiting during your stay. You can modify your itinerary to fit these in during a weekend in Coron, or space it out over the whole of your 3 days of exploring!

Bulog Dos Island

  • A highly popular tourist attraction in Coron!
  • A secluded paradise.
  • One of the many beautiful islands of the Calamine Islands !

Travel along the wispy ocean seas of Coron and find yourself at the immaculate, white sand shores of Bulog Dos Island! This short stretch of beach is magnificent and will blow you away with its dreamlike beauty. The ocean waters are clear-aquamarine and make the bays of this beach looks as though it is a massive aquarium. You must visit here while backpacking through the Philippines.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

You will see a variety of colorful fish, squid, starfish, sting rays, and even turtles (if you are lucky) on the long snaking sandbar. These marine animals are not shy and will sometimes come to swim right next to you or around you. You can enjoy expansive views of the open seas, and feel the calmness of the island’s lazy ocean.

What makes this island truly stand out from the rest is it’s impressive and stunning rock formations. These rocks add to the atmosphere and make for remarkable photos . You can also discover coral reefs, just past the layer of seagrass from the shore.

Malcapuya Island

  • One of the largest Calamine islands with very little population!
  • Known for several Japanese shipwrecks that have occurred in its waters.
  • A must-see island adventure just waiting to welcome you!

A short 20-minute boat ride from the shores of Coron, awaits the Malcapuya Island! This island has an entrancing, mysterious skyline that will captivate you. The entire island is full of exotic plants, animals, and thick jungle for you to spend hours exploring.

The entire island of Coron makes up a home to the ancestral indigenous tribe, the Tagbanua. These people have a passion for living in harmony with nature, and are primarily fishers and gatherers of surprisingly lucrative bilinsasayaw (birds nests).

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Due to this tribe’s concern about how tourism could affect their land, they have marked off selected areas that are open for tourists to enjoy. That’s why it’s so rewarding to make trips to the nearby islands, like Malcapuya island!

This island offers a truly tranquil experience to all travelers, and is a great place to enjoy the beauty of an authentic, untouched island.

Chindonan Island

  • A beautiful island in Coron Bay!
  • Has drinkable, fresh water.
  • Incredibly popular hot spot for tourists.

Not far from Coron awaits the Chindonan Island! This island is a true island dream come true with everything you could imagine on a tropical platter. Due to this island’s clean drinking water, it is more habitable than other islands and has a lot more going on.

You can find remarkable resorts on this island, so staying a night here is a great idea! That way, you can also partake in a nighttime party and watch the sunset over the island’s beautiful white sand beach.

During the day, there is plenty to see and do on this island other than mingle and enjoy resorts! You will find a bunch of breathtaking tropical forests, with many varieties of birds swinging in the trees. If you venture with a guide, you can be taken to some of the island’s notorious water springs! This island adventure is a must one our 3-day itinerary for Coron.

Bayside Plaza

  • A sweet chill spot in Coron!
  • Free entrance.
  • Situated right by the Coron harbour.

One of the most unique gems on our Coron itinerary is a visit to the Bayside Plaza. This is one of those activities that won’t take long but it still well worth doing. This plaza is found by the Coron harbor, making it easy to quickly shoot off to after returning from one of your day trips from Coron. There is a place close-by to also grab a bite to eat and relax afterward.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

The Bayside Plaza offers striking views over the famously scenic coastline of Coron! Coron’s coastline is dotted with the most enigmatic, picturesque islands, and you can see most of them in the vast ocean horizon from the Bayside Plaza.

There aren’t that many lookout spots in Coron, because it is a mostly flat landscape. So, finding one such as the Bayside Plaza makes it magical and such a treat. You can sit back on a bench, take snap shots and marvel at the sunrise or sunset from this serene spot.

Skeleton Wreck

  • A site full of historical significance!
  • If you’re a strong swimmer, you can simply swim out to this spot.
  • Best viewed during low tide.

Coron has a seabed that is thriving with marine life, but it is also famous for being the graveyard more than a handful of shipwrecks. Some of these ships were Japanese, and the shipwrecks date back from World War II. Everyone feels a sense of eeriness around these shipwrecks, as the war affected the entire world. You can now visit some of these sunken ships on the bays of Coron, at Skeleton Wreck.

Among all of these sunken warships, the skeleton wreck is the most easy to reach from Coron. This mysterious warship site is located just a hundred meters from the shores of Atwayan Beach. You can make a day of visiting this and enjoy lazing out on the relaxed beach.

coron summer paradise travel and tours inc

Some people opt to just swim from the coastline, but you can hire out a boat and ride the waves. It’s a very quick trip via boat. The best time to make this journey is during low tide. This makes it all the more amazing, because this is when the wreck is so near the surface of the water that the feet can easily touch the edge of the ship, allowing for a more intimate experience.

Most people when traveling to a new place- especially in Southeast Asia- will feel a bit scared and not know what to expect. One thing you can know for sure is that Coron is typically very safe. It’s one of the aspects of this truly special place that makes it so welcoming, spirited, and an absolute blast to visit!

You will meet tons of friendly Filipinos, all willing to help with the odd apple falling off the cart now and again. The only major things to watch out for is bag-snatching and pick-pocketing. This can happen at all times, so be vigilant. That being said, it’s not likely to happen. You can walk around looking like a sore thumb of a tourist, and not feel threatened.

Women who choose to travel to Coron alone should just keep in mind general safety tips. Things like don’t walk around at night on your own, and don’t leave your dink unattended. One of the more dangerous types of people in Coron are more likely to be the other foreigners and not the locals, so just use your intuition when meeting new faces.

If you’re ever feeling uneasy, it’s simple to contact the police and ask for escorts, or for them to simply check things out for you. You won’t experience this, but it is good to know that they are willing to help all tourists and be at hand if need be.

On a side note, when it comes to paying for your habal-habal ride, try to have a general idea of how long you plan to stay in Coron. Sometimes, the poorer drivers will try to scam tourists and change you way more than necessary, simply because they can. If you know how long a trip should take you, or the general route, don’t let them take you the long way!
