We have all the possible probabilities calculated if anything goes off the schedule. All our professional strive their best to provide trekkers with the best experience possible.

Since this is beginner friendly trek we advise trekkers to wary themselves of the path and high altitude medical conditions before proceeding to this trek.

  Difficulty level

Even though the top is relatively average in elevation, we still recommend a reasonable level of physical fitness. The moderate journey of 14-15 km to be covered in a short span of time can be a challenging task for beginners. We strongly advise trekkers to physically and mentally prepare themselves prior to this trek. Throughout the course, all groups will be guided by our experts for trekking equipment and any impending terrain.

Any medical assistance that is required will be provided at any point of the journey; however, trekkers must consult their professional care before beginning any trek. We also strongly advise trekkers to learn about altitude sickness and to notify our teams as soon as any symptoms appear.

Weather conditions

Weather conditions depend on the time of the year trekkers are travelling. Months from pre and post monsoon experience moderate temperatures during the day with substantially colder nights.

Things to carry

1) Because nights at elevations tend to be considerably colder, we suggest having well-graded, warm and comfortable clothing along with good quality shoes.

2) Despite the fact that we handle medical crises, we urge individuals to keep their emergency kits at hand in any case of personal underlying illnesses.

3) Since the journey provides you with a picturesque view of many peaks, don’t forget to bring your camera along with extra batteries.

4) Our staff will consult with fellow trekkers about their luggage and, if lacking, will assist trekkers in obtaining any necessary equipment. Only the relevant luggage should be brought, as a result.

Other trekking Essentials-

Connectivity and Transactions

2) Trekkers will be provided with walkie- talkies beforehand in case of emergency

3) Last ATM transactions available will be at Mundoli but we recommend travellers to collect cash beforehand or while in Chandigarh as ATM available at other places might not dispense cash at times.

Churdhar Trek – The best trek near to Chandigarh

130 KM from Chandigarh, Churdhar (elevation of 3,647 metres; 11,965 feet) is the highest peak in Sirmour district and is also the highest peak in the outer Himalayas and offers a 360° view of the Himalayas. Once you are at the top you witness one of the best landscapes from the peak. You can find all the essential information about the trek here. I consider this as the best weekend trek from Chandigarh as it’s equally challenging and mesmerising at the same time. Moreover, you can reach the trek base in just 4 hours.

So I was planning Trek to Churdhar peak along with Pankaj and my friends from work. Pankaj also got 2 of his friends to join for the trek. We were short of the camping gear so we got the same from the market outside the Air Force station Chandigarh. Though these days you can easily rent the required gears from Gadget Rental India in Chandigarh. I started my journey from Chandigarh and agreed to meet Pankaj at Solan the next day morning. On trek day Pankaj reached Solan around 6:00 AM. After some time we started our journey towards Noradhar.

Noradhar is one of the bases for Churdhar Trek and is a small village. The main routes for arrival are from Nohradhar to 18 Km, (Sirmour)and Sarahan, Chaupal of 8 km. You can get all the essential items for the trek at Noradhar.

We reached Noradhar at 10:30 am and got a new cooking pot. We also got some food and water as we were told that this was the last point where we would get food.

We started the trek at 10:50 am. There is a big gate of “Shirgul Maharaj” temple at starting of the trek.

The entry gate for Churdhar Trek

Churdhar is a holy place related to Shri Shirgul Maharaj (Chureshwar Maharaj), a deity widely worshipped in Sirmour and Chaupal .

At the very beginning of the trek, we found 2 different trails which meet at Jamnala. We followed the unpaved path which goes straight up and is a bit inclined.

Hiking to Chureshwar Mahadev | Churdhar Trek

I recommend taking this path only as it is very scenic however you need to start early in the morning as the sun is directly above your head for an initial 2-3 Km hike and there is no shelter/trees.

Once we entered the forest we were welcomed with the Rhododendron Tree forest. There is a bit flat trail and meadow once you cross the initial 2-3 km.

Meadows on Churdhar Trek

You can see the entire Sirmour valley from here. On one side of the trail, you will find a Churdhar wildlife sanctuary which is well protected by wires and on the other side, you keep hiking the trail. The trail further goes deep into the forest which is wide and thick.

Around afternoon we reached Jamnala. Before Jamnala there is only one water source which is maintained as this trail is also used by devotees for pilgrimage journeys to Churdhar.

Jamnala is having a small rain shelter that is used by Shepherds and devotees while on the way to Churdhar. When we reached Jamnala it started training so we waited in the shelter for some time.

After waiting for some time we started liking again through the mesmerizing forest. Between Jamnala and Tisri you will find another water source. By 4 PM we reached Tisri and started setting up the camp as we wanted to stay at Tisri for the night.

Camping at Tisri - Churdhar Trek

Camping at Tisri – Melting Ice to arrange water for cooking – Churdhar Trek

We didn’t carry enough water when hiking though we had a fair idea that there will be no water source however we drank all the water before we reached Tisri. We had to collect some ice and melt which we used for cooking.

Enjoying food at Tisri | Churdhar Trek

Lunchtime at Tisri | Churdhar Trek

We were ready to sleep inside our tents when we heard a few voices approaching us. It was way too dark and at first, we were a bit afraid as we were the only ones who were camping at Tisri. Then we heard someone calling us. We were afraid and paused for a few minutes as it was way too dark and if you know there are a lot of haunted stories which we hear in mountains. After waiting for a few minutes we asked who it is? We were shocked when we heard a kid’s voice. We came out of our tents to find out what’s the matter. We were shattered to know what happened after that. There were 2 tall men, wearing just normal shirts without any sweater, with a child, totally lost. It was freezing cold outside. They immediately started requesting us to get their kid inside the tent.

Upon enquiring we found out that they were tourists from someplace in Haryana and they were misguided that they can reach the temple in 3-4 hours and everything is sorted there including food and stay. We felt angry and concerned at the same time.

Advice to every parent, please do a proper research of the trail if you are planning to get your childrens on a trek along with you. The treks are not the place for picnic and you definately need to consider all odd options and prepare for it before you get  your kids join it. I suggest consider double the time you were able to do a trek when you are doing the trek with your kids.

We got the kid inside the tents however both the male persons had to spend the night outside besides the campfire. fortunately, we had collected enough firewood to cook in the morning which kept them going throughout the night. I wonder what could have happened if they didn’t find us at night.

The next morning we started the final hike at around 7:00 AM. After Tisri there are two ways to reach the Churdhar peak. One of the ways first go to the temple and Sarai and from there you need to hike to Shiva sculpture. There is a Sarai at the temple where you can stay for the night after paying nominal charges. The second way goes straight up and is very inclined. The trail is also tricky at a few points and you literally need to cross rocks. After hiking for approx. 2 hours we reached above rocks from where the path is not that inclined and is very easy.

Completed the toughest stretch from Churdhar Trek

On one side of the way, you will see the entire valley. Also after this point, Shiva sculpture is visible and you feel new energy to keep hiking.

Final Stretch to Churdhar peak

Final Stretch to Churdhar peak

The final stretch was where Prabh found out/fought and conquered his fear of heights. Once we were in the final stretch you can literally feel that you are walking on a mountain top and one step here and there could put your life at risk. This is where Prabh literally panicked and started shivering for a few minutes. He sat on the ground and said that he can’t walk further and he will wait for us here. We waited for a few minutes, rested and motivated him to walk as the peak was very near. After a few minutes, he was able to overcome the fear and after that, he was literally jumping over the rocks. This is where I think he discovered and lost his fear of heights and this was the blessings of Lord Shiva that helped him.

Prabh after winning over the fear of heights! Thanking Lord Shiva!

We reached the peak at 10 am. The views from the peak are just from another world. The peak feels like a place from where you can say Lord Shiva is watching on us 24*7. The peak has 360-degree view and you can see all around.

From jamnala we took another trail on the left which is well paved. By 4 PM we reached Noradhar.  Till this date the memories of the trail, the lost family and Prabh overcoming his fears is very fresh in my mind.

Mountains are definitely the place where I feel most alive and I am sure the same is the case with every trekking enthusiast.

Shiv jo on churdhar

In the vicinity of Chandigarh, the Churdhar Trek (3,647 m) is a spiritual journey for the ideal weekend retreat. From April through November, Broza adventures provides trips to this beautiful walk. The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district is home to Churdhar, situated at a height of 3,647m (11,965ft). The highest peak in the Sirmaur district and the highest peak in the outer Himalayas are found there.

A deodar-roofed temple of Lord Shirgul Devta with a lingam dedicated to Lord Shiva is located below the top (Chudeshwar Mahadev). For the locals of Sirmaur, Chaupal, and Solan, this temple holds a special place in their hearts.

Churdhar is sometimes called "Chur Chandani," which means moonlit mountain. There are three ways to approach the summit: via Nauradhar (16 km from Sirmaur), Sarain (8 km from Chaupal, Shimla), and Pulhwal (8 km) (Chaupal, Shimla).

The most well-known one is from Nauradhar in the Sirmour area, with lovely rest stops in between and a spectacular view all around. It is a location of immense religious significance in the state's Sirmaur district. A colossal statue of Lord Shiva that towers over Churdhar Peak is enthralling to look at and transports you to the stories of ancient Indian epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Churdhar Trek is one of the most thrilling treks around Shimla. Beautiful views of the Dhauladhar, the Greater Himalayas, and some large peaks in Uttarakhand, such as Swargarohini (6,252 m), Bandarpoonch, and others, can be seen on a clear, bright day (6,316 m), Kedarnath (6,940 m), and Badrinath (7,138 m).

Best Time To Do Churdhar Trek

Churdhar begins with steep inclines and has a moderately difficult ascent and descent. The ideal months to hike these pathways are May, June, October, and November. This journey qualifies as a pre-and post-monsoon season excursion because of the unfavorable temperatures and precipitation. The average temperature during the daytime ranges between 25 and 15 degrees Celsius, but the overnight low is substantially lower.

You'll arrive at the top in 3 to 4 hours. Take in the sweeping vistas from the peak. Return to the base camp, where dinner and snacks will be served. Rest a while.

Get up early because this will be a long trekking day. It would help if you ascended slowly through woodland for 5 kilometers to reach Teesri, at 3250 meters. The windiest part of the trek is at Teesri, where several shops are along the mountain's peak. After crossing Teesri, the treeline starts to recede. The temple of Chureshwar is located 2 kilometers uphill from the top. When you reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of high Himalayan peaks like Kinner Kailash, Srikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Travelling is an important element of our lives, and people who do not travel do not live fully. Our objective is never a location but rather a new approach to discovering things, and trekking is thrilling, and there is a saying that "the finest vistas come after the hardest climbs." So, let's talk about the Churdhar trek, which is one of Shimla's most intriguing hikes. In this article, our experts will provide you with all the Churdhar trek details - Churdhar trek itinerary, Churdhar trekking distance, Churdhar trek location, and much more. Scroll through to know more about this awesome adventure.

Introduction

The Churdhar peak is the tallest mountain in the Himalayan range outside of the Himalayas. Churi-Chandni-Dhar is another name for this summit. Locals think Shri Chureshwar or Shirgul Maharaj resided here in ancient times; hence it is called after them. The panoramic views from the peak are breathtaking. Kinner Kailash, Shrikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and the Dhauladhar Range are among the Himalayan peaks seen from the top. The Gangetic basin, the Sutlej River, Shimla, Chail, Kufri, Kasauli, and Chakrata can all be seen from the peak.

The path from Nauradhar is the most popular of the three approaches to the top. It takes around three hours to drive from Kasauli to Nauradhar. This cab service is also included in the package. After arriving at Nauradhar, lunch will be served and free the rest of the day. The majority of visitors choose to spend the day in this town. The Churdhar Trek begins the next morning shortly after breakfast.

Churdhar Trip's initial 1 km is a somewhat difficult trek with a steep, rocky, and muddy environment. Beyond that, the trip becomes easier with a regular ascent through dense pine woods that leads to a lovely meadow where the day's campground is surrounded by cedar and pine trees scurrying quietly as if to sing you a lullaby to sleep. The final portion of the walk is a hard moraine hike. Still, because a 56-square-kilometre forest sanctuary encircles the summit, you can take in the panoramic vista of lush green forest with the Greater Himalayas in the distance.

  • End Point: Phalhi
  • Distance: 32 km
  • Location: Himachal Pradesh
  • Height: 12,000 ft
  • Difficulty Level: Easy To Moderate

Best Season/Time to Go In Churdhar Trek

The post-monsoon season (September to November) and the summer months (April to June) are the most suitable times to begin the Churdhar Trek. These times of year are perfect for trekking because of the comparatively consistent weather, low humidity, and moderate climate.

The fresh rains have revitalised the scenery in the post-monsoon season, with beautiful greenery gracing the valleys and mountainsides. There is little chance of severe rain or snowfall, which could obstruct path progress, otherwise, the weather is cool and pleasant for hiking.

Likewise, summertime offers relief from the intense heat of the plains, as higher elevations tend to have lower temperatures. As the routes are often passable and dry, hikers may easily navigate the terrain and take in unrestricted landscapes of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

As a result, it’s a good idea to monitor weather forecasts and be ready for unforeseen circumstances. Churdhar Trek: A Stunning and Remarkable Himalayan Trek

Churdhar Trek: A Stunning and Remarkable Himalayan Trek

The Churdhar Trek is located in Himachal Pradesh, not far from Chandigarh and Churdhar Mountain. It is at 3655 meters and is the highest peak within the Himalayan range.  Another name for this range is Churi-Chandni-Dhar. The area is named for Shri Chureshwar or Shirgul Maharaj because residents think that they formerly resided there.

Himachal news

The Churdhar Trek in Himachal Pradesh brings you to the Churdhar Top, named after ShriChureshwar or ShirgulMaharaj. He was thought to have lived here in ancient times. The peak is also known as Churi-Chandni-Dhar. Due to its connection to “ShriChureshwarMaharaj,” Churdhar is revered as holy and home to many temples.

The iconic Himalayan peaks, including Kinner Kailash, Shrikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath , and Badrinath, are visible from the top. This journey, snaking through numerous landscapes, is a treat for its travelers. The initial half of the trip is up a steep slope, and the last four hours are through rainy weather. However, the most impressive part of this trek is, without a doubt, the Churdhaar nature refuge. Beautiful wildlife like the Himalayan Black Bear, Musk deer Lanhur, and other species pose a threat to this refuge.

  • Discover Churdhar peak’s greatest attributes.
  • Discover Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary’s magnificence.
  • First, learn about the significance of the local mythology surrounding this destination.
  • Then, see the far-off peaks visible from the top in a panoramic picture.

The Scheduling

In essence, you will reach three peaks:

  • 2,175 m Nauradhar
  • 2,855m Jam Nallah
  • 3,655 m Churdhar

One of the following routes will bring you to Nauradhar, where you will spend the night at the base camp before beginning the hike.

churdhar trek from chandigarh

Day 1: Your trip from Nauradhar to Jam Nallah will begin at 6 am. You should wear appropriate trekking shoes because the trail is rocky and hilly. Reaching the peak will take you three to four hours. There, you can find a few dhabas and shops where you can buy food and other necessities.

Then, you will walk from Jam Nallah to Teesri, which is very simple with a well-defined track and takes you about 2 hours to finish. Along the way, you will see various lovely water streams.

Day 2: Day 2 of the walk will take you from Teesri to Churdhar, which is the hardest part of the whole journey. You should finish it in four hours or so.

Two paths lead to the Churdhar peak; one is a 4 km trail that gets you to the peak directly where the Lord Shiva temple resides. And the other is a 7 km trail that takes you via the temple and is less steep.

Day 3: The following morning, at around 8 am, you begin your descent toward Nauradhar. The journey back to the base will take about 5 to 6 hours. Then, you can board the 5:00 pm bus to Solan or another neighboring city where you want to return.

The Ideal Time to Visit

Although there is a different season to visit Churdhar, it is recommended to go on the journey between May and November, when the peaks are stunningly covered with snow. Temperatures in June and July range from 20°C to 28°C, with an average of 55mm of precipitation. Most tourists are present during this time of year. Your decision will rely on the experiences you want to have.

Roads are covered in snow from the end of December to the beginning of March, making it unsafe to attempt the Churdhar trek during these times of low visibility.

Introduction to Churdhar Temple

Nestled in the breathtaking Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh, the Churdhar Temple in Sirmaur district stands as a beacon of spiritual enlightenment and natural beauty. This ancient shrine, perched atop the Churdhar Peak, offers visitors a unique blend of religious devotion and awe-inspiring panoramas. In this blog post, we’ll explore the sacred Churdhar Temple, its rich history, and the experience it offers to pilgrims and tourists alike.

Location and Accessibility

The Churdhar Temple is located at the summit of Churdhar Peak, the highest peak in the outer Himalayas. It sits at an elevation of 3,647 meters (11,965 feet) above sea level, straddling the borders of Sirmaur, Shimla, and Chopal.

Address: Churdhar Peak, Sirmaur District, Himachal Pradesh, India

To reach the temple, visitors can take one of several trekking routes:

  • From Nohradhar (87 km from Solan) – 16 km trek
  • From Sarain (80 km from Solan) – 14 km trek
  • From Haripurdhar – 8 km trek

While the journey may be challenging, the spiritual and natural rewards make it well worth the effort.

The Deity and Spiritual Significance

The Churdhar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Chureshwar Mahadev. The temple houses a Shiva Lingam, which is believed to have manifested naturally (Swayambhu). This self-manifested lingam adds to the spiritual potency of the site, attracting devotees from far and wide.

Apart from Lord Shiva, the temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to other deities such as Kali and Hanuman, making it a significant pilgrimage site for followers of various Hindu traditions.

Historical Background

The origins of the Churdhar Temple are steeped in legend and mythology. According to local lore, the temple was established by the Pandavas during their exile, as mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. It is said that the Pandavas spent some time in meditation at this location, sanctifying the area.

Another legend associates the temple with Shringi Rishi, a sage who is believed to have performed intense penance at this spot. The name “Churdhar” itself is derived from “Churi” (bangle) and “Dhar” (peak), referring to the bangle-shaped summit where the temple stands.

Over the centuries, the temple has been a focal point of spiritual practices and pilgrimage, with numerous saints and devotees visiting the site to seek blessings and perform meditation.

Architectural Marvel

The Churdhar Temple, despite its remote location, showcases remarkable architectural features that blend seamlessly with its Himalayan surroundings. The main structure is built in the traditional Pahari style of architecture, characterized by its sloping roof and intricate woodwork.

Key architectural elements include:

  • A pyramidal roof covered with slate tiles to withstand heavy snowfall
  • Ornate wooden carvings adorning the temple facade
  • Stone walls that provide insulation against harsh weather conditions
  • A spacious courtyard for accommodating devotees during festivals

The temple’s design not only serves its spiritual purpose but also stands as a testament to the ingenuity of mountain architecture, harmoniously integrated with its natural setting.

Festivals and Celebrations

The Churdhar Temple comes alive with vibrant festivities throughout the year. Some of the major celebrations include:

  • Churdhar Fair : Held annually in June, this fair attracts thousands of devotees who make the arduous trek to seek blessings and participate in rituals.
  • Shravan Month Celebrations : During the Hindu month of Shravan (July-August), special pujas and abhishekams are performed daily, drawing large crowds of Shiva devotees.
  • Mahashivratri : This important festival dedicated to Lord Shiva is celebrated with great fervor at the temple, usually falling in February or March.
  • Navratri : The nine-night festival honoring the Divine Mother is observed with special prayers and rituals at the Kali shrine within the temple complex.

These celebrations not only serve as spiritual gatherings but also as cultural exchanges, bringing together people from various regions of Himachal Pradesh and beyond.

Visiting Hours and Aarti Timings

The Churdhar Temple remains open throughout the year, weather permitting. However, it’s essential to note that heavy snowfall during winter months can sometimes make access difficult.

Temple Timings:

  • Summer (April to October): 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Winter (November to March): 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Aarti Timings:

  • Morning Arti: 6:30 AM (Summer) / 7:30 AM (Winter)
  • Evening Arti: 7:00 PM (Summer) / 5:30 PM (Winter)

It’s advisable to confirm the timings before planning your visit, as they may be subject to change during special occasions or adverse weather conditions.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Churdhar Temple is between May and October when the weather is most favorable for trekking and outdoor activities. During these months, you can enjoy clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

Here’s a monthly breakdown:

  • May to June: Perfect for trekking, with mild temperatures and clear weather
  • July to August: Monsoon season, offering lush green landscapes but potential rain-related challenges
  • September to October: Post-monsoon period with crisp air and excellent visibility

Winter months (November to April) can be extremely cold with heavy snowfall, making the trek challenging and sometimes impossible. However, for experienced trekkers and snow enthusiasts, this period offers a unique, serene experience of the temple surrounded by a winter wonderland.

Unique Rituals and Practices

The Churdhar Temple is known for several unique rituals and practices that set it apart from other Shiva temples:

  • Meditation Caves : Around the temple, there are several natural caves where devotees can meditate, following in the footsteps of ancient sages.
  • Offering of Bangles : In keeping with the legend of the temple’s name, devotees often offer bangles to Lord Shiva, especially newly married couples seeking blessings.
  • Nature Worship : Given its location, the temple encourages a strong connection with nature. Many pilgrims perform rituals honoring the surrounding mountains, forests, and wildlife.
  • Spiritual Trekking : The journey to the temple itself is considered a form of spiritual practice, with many devotees chanting mantras or observing silence during the trek.
  • Sunrise Ritual : A special puja is performed at sunrise, allowing devotees to witness the first rays of the sun touching the Shiva Lingam, a profoundly spiritual experience.

These practices not only enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the temple but also promote a deep connection with the Himalayan ecosystem.

Planning Your Trip

When planning a visit to Churdhar Temple, consider the following tips:

  • Physical Preparation : The trek to the temple is moderately difficult. Ensure you are in good physical condition and acclimatize properly to the altitude.
  • Accommodation : There are basic accommodations available near the temple, including a Forest Rest House and a PWD Rest House. Book in advance, especially during peak season.
  • Warm clothing (even in summer)
  • Sturdy trekking shoes
  • First-aid kit
  • Snacks and water
  • Torch or headlamp
  • Guided Tours : Consider hiring a local guide for a safer and more informative experience.
  • Respect Local Customs : Dress modestly and follow temple etiquette. Photography may be restricted in certain areas.
  • Environmental Responsibility : Practice ‘Leave No Trace’ principles to help preserve the pristine mountain environment.

OT Travel Itinerary: All You Need To Know About The Stok Kangri Trek

All About The Stok Kangri Trek

A thrilling and difficult trek in India, the Stok Kangri Trek gives hikers the opportunity to reach the summit of a peak rising to 20,128 feet in the Ladakh region. This trek, which offers fantastic views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges, is essential for experienced hikers. The journey begins with acclimatisation walks around Leh, where you can visit local markets and monasteries , which are the first part of the journey. Beautiful scenery greets you as you travel from Stok Village to Chang Ma and Mankorma, progressively bringing you to base camp. The trek's high point is the midnight climb to the summit of Stok Kangri, which rewards you with expansive views of the magnificent Himalayas .

Hiking on the trails of Stok Kangri peak

The Stok Kangri Trek is most enjoyable from mid-June to mid-September when the trails are accessible, and the weather is generally stable. The hike is challenging, though, with high elevations, sharp ascents, and the possibility of inclement weather. Prior experience trekking at high altitudes and physical fitness are prerequisites. In order to avoid altitude sickness and guarantee a successful summit, acclimatisation is essential. You will spend the entire trek sleeping beneath the stars, connecting with other hikers, and taking in the tranquil beauty of the Himalayas.

Day 1: Arrival in Leh

Main Market, Leh

At 11,560 feet above sea level, you arrive in Leh, the starting point of your adventure. It is essential that you spend this first day acclimatising your body to the high altitude. Immerse yourself in Leh's rich culture and history by spending the day touring the local marketplaces and monasteries. This day of relaxation and moderate exercise gets you ready for the difficult journey that lies ahead.

Day 2: Leh to Stok Village to Chang Ma

On the second day, you will travel to Stok Village, which is located at an altitude of 11,800 feet. From there, you will hike to Chang Ma, situated at 13,087 feet. This hike will help you acclimate to the higher altitude while gradually introducing you to the terrain and offering beautiful views. You will spend the night in tents in Chang Ma, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the mountains.

Day 3: Chang Ma to Mankorma

On the third day, you will trek to the 14,200-foot Mankorma. This leg of the journey offers stunning views and diverse landscapes that will leave you in awe. The trek becomes more challenging as you ascend, but the breathtaking scenery makes it all worthwhile. You will relish the tranquillity of the secluded area while camping in tents at Mankorma for the night.

Day 4: Mankorma to Base Camp

Camping at Stok Kangri Base Camp

On the fourth day, you will hike to the 16,300-foot Stok Kangri Base Camp. This day is crucial for resting and acclimatising before the challenging climb. You'll have the opportunity to bond with other hikers and share stories under the starry sky at the camp. Tents will be provided for a cosy yet rustic overnight experience.

Day 5: Acclimatisation Day at Base Camp

Night view of Stok Kangri Base Camp

On the fifth day, you will take short walks around the base camp to aid in further acclimatisation. This preparation is crucial for your body to adjust to the high altitude and ensure a successful summit attempt. While preparing physically and mentally for the climb, spend the day relaxing and exploring the area. Once again, trekkers will spend the night in tents, which will help foster camaraderie.

Day 6: Base Camp to Stok Kangri Summit and Back

Stok Range of the Zanskar mountains

On the sixth day, the attempt to reach the summit starts at midnight. Starting early is necessary to reach the summit, which is located at 20,128 feet, by early morning. The climb is challenging but rewarding, offering unparalleled views at the summit. After enjoying the magnificent vista, you will return to base camp. The descent is equally strenuous, and you will spend the night in tents at base camp, reflecting on the impressive accomplishment.

Day 7: Base Camp to Stok Village to Leh

On the seventh day, you will hike through stunning scenery all the way back to Stok Village. After leaving Stok Village, you'll take a car back to Leh. You can celebrate completing the trek there and relax in a hotel. This last day offers an opportunity to unwind, reflect on the trip, and savour the sense of achievement and the memories made along the way.

A Day in Leh

A view of the stunning Thiksey Monastery

If you have a day to spare in Leh, you might want to check out the place as it is one of the most sought-after destinations in India. Located in India's Ladakh region, it offers a unique combination of mouthwatering food, vibrant culture, and breathtaking scenery. Explore the nine-story Leh Palace, which offers sweeping views of the town and the surrounding mountains, to start your adventure. A serene spot to witness the Himalayan sunset is the nearby Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist monument. One of the world's highest motorable roads, the Khardung La Pass, attracts thrill-seekers with its breathtaking views and thrilling drive.

Don't miss a visit to the stunning Thiksey Monastery, perched on a hilltop and home to an enormous statue of Maitreya Buddha as well as elaborate murals. Another unusual sight is the Magnetic Hill, where cars appear to defy gravity.

In terms of cuisine, Leh is a treat for people who like filling meals. Savour traditional Ladakhi cuisine such as steamed dumplings filled with meat or vegetables called momos and Thukpa, a flavourful noodle soup. Taste Skyu, a traditional root vegetable-based Ladakhi pasta dish. Try Butter Tea, a popular beverage in the area made with tea leaves, butter, and salt, for a cool beverage. Leh is a gourmet haven for tourists since its cafés serve a wide range of foreign cuisines.

Things to Remember

Preparation is essential to ensure enjoyment and safety when trekking. Investigate the trail and learn about its potential hazards, weather, and degree of difficulty. It's important to pack necessities like a first aid kit, sturdy shoes, clothes for the weather, and enough food and water. Even if you are familiar with the trail, always carry a map, compass, or GPS device. It's a good idea to let someone know about your intended trekking route and anticipated return time. When trekking at higher altitudes, be aware of altitude-related problems and always practice Leave No Trace to protect the environment.

Getting There

Air : Flying is the easiest and fastest way to get to Ladakh. The sole airport, known as the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, is situated in the town of Leh. Regular flights are available to Leh from a number of domestic airlines, departing from major national cities such as Jammu, Srinagar, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Kolkata, and others.

Rail : Travelling to Leh by train is not feasible as the nearest station is located 700 km away in the town called Tawi. Stations like Chandigarh and Pathankot are the other closest options, but they are even further away.

Road : There are two road routes to Leh Ladakh: the first is a 494 km journey through Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and the second is a 434 km route through Srinagar. Leh is accessible via taxi, jeep, or JKSRTC bus, with the bus running frequently between Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh. A bike trip from Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali, or Srinagar is also an option. It's only possible to travel by road to Ladakh from May through September due to heavy snowfall in the winter.
