Fever Ray: ‘Getting To Know Yourself Is A Big Part Of Being Able To Be Open’

The Black Keys Announce Australian Tour Dates

The Bluesfest headliners will grace our shores for a run of headline and festival shows early next year

More The Black Keys

Hours after being named as the men to lead  Bluesfest  to glory next year, renowned dirty-rock duo  The Black Keys  have announced a run of Australian headline and festival performance dates as part of their 2015  Turn Blue  World Tour.

The tour, which kicks off with their Bluesfest performance at Byron Bay on Friday, April 3, takes its name from the pair’s recently released eighth studio full-length, Turn Blue . The album stepped out at #1 on both the ARIA Albums Chart and the Billboard 200, solidifying it as The Black Keys’ best-performing release to date, greatly aided by the acclaim sent in the direction of new singles Fever and Gotta Get Away .

The Australian leg of The Black Keys’ Turn Blue World Tour also takes in an appearance as the first artists to grace the first Rolling Green events, orchestrated by A Day On The Green promoters Roundhouse entertainment, as well as headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth before they wind down at Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre Theatre on Thursday, April 16.

The new album encapsulates the work ethic that has permeated the career of The Black Keys – otherwise known as Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach – and serves as a worthy follow-up to their widely acclaimed, multiple-Grammy-winning 2011 LP, El Camino.

“We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record – not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either,” Carney said of the new work in a statement. “On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We’re excited for the world to hear Turn Blue .”

Tickets for Bluesfest are available now; Rolling Green shows will be up for sale from 9am on Thursday, September 11, with the remainder of the run going up for grabs from midday the same day.

I love to finally have been able to see them!

There were a few things that would've made this experience better for me:

* too much time between songs and not with chit chat with the audience, just silence;

* yeah, more chit chat and engagement with the audience;

* the voice was drowned by the music too many times;

* which was even worse when they decided to slow sing some of their not so slow songs - we cannot hear you sing and now we do not have the hard drums in the background;

* the venue is just not a good venue for concerts (which is the case with big venues like that, makes you feel restricted) so advice for the band is to not perform in such venues, which I know is difficult because there are so many of us wanting to see them, so where else to play?! Music festivals!!!

The experience with Song kick was horrible... I bought tickets off of their website and then when I went to pick them up, they informed me at Willcall that I have been scammed... as there were no tickets waiting for me. Dont buy with this app... I lost 150 bucks. Its shit.

Thanks for fucking me guys!

I've been a Black Keys fan since they released Magic Potion in 2007. They've consistently been my favorite band and I am proud to still be their biggest fan. This was the 4th time I've seen them live and by far the most impressive performance. Even though we were far back, the entire section rocked out like we were front row. They played all their greatest hits including some off their old albums like Oceans & Streams, Thickfreakness, and Magic Potion. The new music rocks out so I am so pleased with this experience I now call, the best concert of my life. I will travel to Boston on October 11th to see them live for my 25th birthday - LET'S ROCK!

The Black Keys are singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Last year, the duo received its 14th Grammy nomination, this time for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Delta Kream , which was released in May 2021 by Nonesuch Records. The project, which features 11 Mississippi hill country blues songs by artists such as R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, was the band’s fifth consecutive top 10 debut on The Billboard 200. Pitchfork said of the album, “By spending the time playing the blues that’s buried deep in their soul, the Black Keys reveal how far they’ve gone in a space of 20 years,” while the UK’s Independent said, “The blues flow through The Black Keys’ music as steady as the Mississippi River. Now they’re going right to the source on Delta Kream , a sweltering collection of some of their favourite hill country blues standards. The fact they’re exploring such familiar territory is to the album’s benefit. The Black Keys know this music as well as their own. Delta Kream celebrates true musicianship. A soundtrack for those hot and heady nights of late summer. It’s brilliant.” Delta Kream also made Best of 2021 lists from several publications, including both Uncut and Mojo.

Most recently, The Black Keys released the Super Deluxe 10th anniversary edition of their landmark seventh studio album, El Camino in late 2021. El Camino was produced by Danger Mouse and The Black Keys and was recorded in the band’s then-new hometown of Nashville during the spring of 2011. The Black Keys won three awards at the 55 th annual Grammys for El Camino —Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album—among other worldwide accolades.

Formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001, The Black Keys have been called “rock royalty” by the Associated Press and “one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands on the planet” by Uncut . Cutting their teeth playing small clubs, the band have gone on to sell out arena tours and have released nine previous studio albums: their debut The Big Come Up (2002), followed by Thickfreakness (2003) and Rubber Factory (2004), along with their releases on Nonesuch Records, Magic Potion (2006), Attack & Release (2008), Brothers (2010), El Camino (2011), Turn Blue (2014) and “ Let’s Rock ” (2019), plus a 10th anniversary edition of Brothers (2020).The band has won six Grammy Awards and a BRIT and headlined festivals in North America, South America, Mexico, Australia, and Europe.

Seriously, I’ve been waiting a long time. I’m so excited I could cry. After snubbing Big Day Out 2011 (okay, it wasn’t really a snub, they were exhausted, but I’m still disappointed), THE BLACK KEYS are here to party.

The Black Keys cancel fall North American tour that was to launch in Oklahoma: What to know

black keys tour australia

The Black Keys have canceled their 2024 North American headlining tour that was originally slated to launch in Oklahoma.

The duo of singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney announced in April plans to kick off the fall "International Players Tour" Sept. 17 at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Produced by Live Nation, the coast-to-coast tour originally was scheduled to go on to New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, with two dates in the band’s home state of Ohio.

The Black Keys ' 31-city autumn tour was to support their 12th studio album, "Ohio Players," which was released April 5 via Nonesuch Records.

The Tulsa tour-launching date is now listed as canceled at bokcenter.com . All the dates have been scrubbed from the Black Keys' website and are listed as canceled on Ticketmaster.com except for the July 6 NASCAR Chicago Street Race at Grant Park.

The Black Keys reveal plans to reconfigure tour, promise to announce new dates

An Instagram post over Memorial Day weekend on The Black Keys' official account assured fans that Carney and Auerbach "are alive and well."

The Instagram post also revealed the duo's plans to reconfigure the the North American leg of the tour.

"Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly," the band posted on Instagram.

The post states that fans who purchased tickets to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded, "and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets."

Tulsa ticketholders received an email over the weekend that "no action is required to obtain a refund. It will be processed to the original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer." Ticketholders should expect the refund to appear on their account within 14 to 21 days, according to the email.

"Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change," The Black Keys' Instagram post concluded. "We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon."

The Black Keys

The Black Keys have quietly canceled their upcoming International Players Tour, which was scheduled to bring them to arenas throughout North America.

The tour, announced in early April, was scheduled to kick off in September, with dates set for New York City’s Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. The 31-date trek would have brought them across North America, with stops planned in Seattle, Boston and Milwaukee before concluding at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on Nov. 12. All dates have been marked as canceled on Ticketmaster’s website.

Popular on Variety

Management and publicity for the Black Keys did not respond to Variety ‘s requests for comment.

After news broke on Saturday that the tour had been canceled, the group posted on Instagram explaining that they had to reconfigure their tour to bring a similarly “exciting, intimate experience” for fans and that tickets for the original trek would be refunded in full.

“The band wants to assure everyone that Dan & Patrick are alive and well,” reads the caption. “Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly. Everyone who had purchased tickets and/or VIP to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded – and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets. Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon.”

The Black Keys, which consists of Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach, were set to kick off the tour in support of their most recent album “Ohio Players,” which released in April. On Wednesday, the pair appeared on NBC’s “The Voice,” where they performed “Beautiful People (Stay High).”

The band also recently debuted the documentary “This Is a Film About the Black Keys,” which had its world premiere at SXSW last month. The film explored the historical tensions between the bandmates as well as what united them. “We’ve figured each other out, for the most part,” said Auerbach in the doc. “We’re just two very opinionated, hard-headed people, trapped for eternity together.”

Black Keys North American tour being revised, with full refunds promised

May 28 (UPI) -- Rock duo The Black Keys announced a halt to the North American leg of the band's so-called International Players tour to rework which venues will host the shows.

"Following the recent run of shows in the U.K. & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band," The Black Keys announced on X.

The band said fans who bought tickets to canceled shows will receive full refunds.

"Apologies for the surprise change," the duo posted. "We're pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind."

Ticket-holders won't have to act to obtain full refunds, which will be issued automatically according to the method of payment used.

The Black Keys Cancel Upcoming North American Leg of International Players Tour

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

The Black Keys have canceled the upcoming North American leg of their International Players Tour , with dates for the jaunt abruptly erased without explanation from the band’s social media pages and official website.

On Friday, fans noticed that the Ticketmaster listing for the International Players Tour’s North American arena shows — which was set to begin September 17 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and run through November 12 in Detroit — listed all of the shows as canceled.

Venues’ individual listings for the concerts — including a September 18 gig at Austin’s Moody Center and an October 30 show at New York’s Madison Square Garden — also updated the pages to acknowledge that the shows had been canceled and that fans would automatically receive refunds. “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel this event,” the Moody Center’s listing noted.

The duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, who just completed a European leg in support of their new album Ohio Players , have not issued a statement regarding the cancelations. A rep for the band did not respond to Rolling Stone ’s request for comment at press time.

“Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly,” the band wrote on social media.
