About Thomas Rhett

Ten years after signing his record deal with Big Machine Label Group’s The Valory Music Co., arena-packing superstar Thomas Rhett — dubbed “the most reliable maker of No. 1 singles in country music”  (Variety)  — has 19 multi-PLATINUM and GOLD-certified No. 1 hits, 12 BILLION streams and the longest current active streak of consecutive No. 1s in the format (Mediabase/Country Aircheck Chart). Declared “a prince in the genre”  (USA Today) , he has been honored with eight ACM Awards including Entertainer of the Year, two CMA Awards, five GRAMMY nominations, plus trophies from the CMT Music Awards,  Billboard Awards and iHeartRadio Awards, in addition to being recognized with two CMA Triple Play awards for penning three No. One songs within a 12-month period. The superstar’s critically-acclaimed sixth studio album WHERE WE STARTED is available now, with single “Half of Me,” featuring Riley Green, currently Top 5 at Country radio. Thomas Rhett has also just released his first-ever Christmas collection MERRY CHRISTMAS Y’ALL, featuring his rich vocal and sincere delivery, with a country flair on four favorite festive tracks.  Inspired by family, friends and his love of the outdoors, Thomas Rhett is also the cofounder of Dos Primos Tequila and has collaborated with Chaco on an exclusive sandal line. He recently extended his BRING THE BAR TO YOU TOUR into 2023 with dates scheduled for the top of next year in Canada. For more information, visit  www.ThomasRhett.com .

About Cole Swindell

Multi-Platinum selling superstar Cole Swindell released his fifth studio album,  Stereotype , to massive success. The project has already charted three back-to-back multi-week No. 1 hits: the Gold-certified “Single Saturday Night,” the Platinum-certified “Never Say Never” (with Lainey Wilson) and, most recently, the Platinum-certified, five-week chart-topper “She Had Me At Heads Carolina.” In the seven years since his debut on Warner Music Nashville, Swindell has racked up an impressive 12 No. 1 singles as an artist – 13 as a songwriter – 11 certified Platinum singles (four singles at 2x Platinum), a Platinum-certified debut album ( Cole Swindell ) and a Gold-certified sophomore album ( You Should Be Here ). The Georgia hitmaker has over 5.2 BILLION global career streams. His massive, GRAMMY-nominated hit “Break Up In The End” was named the 2019  NSAI Song of the Year . Swindell is nominated for two CMA Awards for  Musical Event of the Year  and  Music Video of the Year  for “Never Say Never” with Lainey Wilson. He officially became a headliner on his own in 2018 with his  Reason To Drink  Tours, and is currently out on the road with   Ashley Cooke and Dylan Marlowe for his  Back Down To The Bar Tour .

About Nate Smith

With a mix of gritty backwoods soul, rock ‘n’ roll swagger and velvet-thunder vocals, Nate Smith first chased his neon dreams to Nashville in his early 20s – but it didn’t stick. The disheartened Smith returned home and thought he was “100-percent done” with his artistic journey…until a crucible of change burned away the past. In 2018, Smith lost everything he owned in the devastating Camp Fire which tore through Paradise, California. Although his family was safe, he struggled to cope and turned back to music, hoping that it would help comfort himself and others. Help it did, inspiring a month-long road trip across the U.S. to Music City, writing music and playing dive bars along the way. Soon after his arrival to Nashville, Nate released his biggest song to date, “Wildfire,” and landed a publishing deal with Sony ATV. Since then, he’s released new music including “Sleeve” and “Under My Skin,” which has amassed over 70 million on-demand streams to date. The singer was named a Spotify Hot Country Artist to Watch for 2021 – an accurate prediction as he rounded out the year with a record deal with Sony Music Nashville and is now making waves with his latest release, “Whiskey On You,” which is now Gold-certified and Top 15 and climbing at country radio.

Thomas Rhett Announces Home Team Tour 23 Dates

Thomas Rhett has announced his tour plans for 2023. The country hitmaker will bring the Home Team Tour to 27 states from May through September. In total, he just put 40 new tour dates on his calendar.

Cole Swindell and " Whiskey on You " singer Nate Smith will open the Home Team 23 Tour. It kicks off on Des Moines, Iowa, on May 4 and criss-crosses the country before wrapping in Nashville on Sept. 29. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Nov. 11 at 10AM local time.

See a full list of Rhett's tour dates below.

In a video shared with fans, Rhett attempts to wear sports jerseys from all 40 cities he'll be visiting as he makes the announcement and answers questions during a mock press conference. Swindell and Smith make brief cameos, but video magic makes Rhett the exponential star of the show. He even wears a University of Tennessee jersey, which surely had to sting, as Rhett is a big University of Georgia fan.

The tour's name comes from Rhett's name for his fan community. In fact, it's at least the second Home Team Tour he's embarked on. In 2017 he brought Kelsea Ballerini and more along for a Home Team Tour that focused on the midwest and southeast.

Thomas Rhett, (born March 30th, 1990) is a country and western singer songwriter from Valdosta, Georgia. He is the song of Rhett Atkins and has five singles that charts from his debut album “It Goes Like This”.

It all started when Thomas Rhett Atkins Jr. was old enough to go on stage with his father, Rhett Atkins, and play the drums for him. The band was put together in high school called The High Heeled Flip Flops. After high school, Rhett went to college at Lipscomb University in Nashville Tennessee and played as a member of Tau Phi for their cowboy show. It was from this experience that he grew used to big crowds and commanding the audience.

Rhett co-wrote the song “I Ain’t Ready to Quit” on Jason Aldeans’ 2010 album, “My Kinda Party” and then signed a contract with Big Machine Records, Valory Music Group division in 2011. He released his debut single “Something to Do with My Hands” which was released on February 21st 2012, with a music video too. The song reached number 15 on the US Hot Country Songs. His follow up single “Beer With Jesus” was released on September 4th 2012, and reached number 1 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. It wasn’t until his song “It Goes Like This” released on May 6th 2013, that Rhett got the success that he deserved, with the song going Platinum, and making it to number 1 on the US Country Airplay chart, it also became the title track of his debut album, which was released on October 29th 2013. The albums’ fourth single “Get Me Some of That” became Rhett’s second number 1 single.

Rhett has also co written the 2013 singles “1994” by Jason Aldean, “Parking Lot Party” by Lee Brice and “Round Here” by Florida Georgia Line.

Live reviews

What can be more American than listening to country music on the 4th of July? Nothing.

Thomas Rhett can turn anyone into a country fan by simply attending one of his concerts. At only 24 he has succeeded in having two hit songs, but while he's on stage you can see that he's just average guy enjoying the moment and having a good time. He utlizes the whole stage, and invites a few lucky souls to join him at certain points. He also loves to shake those hips of his, so be prepared to dance when you go to one of his concerts.

His songs are extemely catchy and easy to sing along with, so be prepared...the whole audience will be singing with him. Just when you think it couldn't get louder he will start singing some classic oldies that will make the venue erupt.

He makes the whole audience feel like they're at a neighborhood block party with a bunch of good friends, which is why his songs like "Front Porch Junkies" and "Sorry For Partying" are so entertaining to hear.

If you hate dancing, happiness, and being surrounded by friendly people who are enjoying life...Thomas Rhett is not for you. If you're the opposite then buy your tickets now. You won't regret it. You can tell a good artist when you leave the concert thinking that he or she was better in person than on his cd. He's album is great, but it's worth every penny plus some to see him in person. Thomas Rhett is a country singer that appeals to everyone because of fun, upbeat energy. Buy your tickets now, and see for yourself.

It could be said that country music is in Thomas Rhett's DNA, having been born to the established singer/songwriter Rhett Akins. The fresh faced youngster has very much made his own impact on the industry with his own slant on the genre and expert live show. Having always been interested in music, it is fair to say that Rhett has ability with his instrument that is far beyond his years.

Despite having only released one studio album, it scored well commercially so the fanbase is ready and waiting to see Thomas bring 'It Goes Like This' to life. There is great skill in the way he develops early songs to give a more involving live experience to the delighted masses. 'Make Me Wanna' has the whole audience singing along despite having only released it a few months ago, it has fast become a favourite. The singer thanks the crowd for their enthusiastic involvement and expresses his slight bemusement at his new found fame. Rounding the evening off with 'Something To Do With My Hands', the crowd stand as one to celebrate this new singer and assure him they will continue to support his career.

The Pit section was definitely the place to be! I have no clue how I got so lucky last night! Out of all the beautiful ladies around me.. He picked me to sang too! And came back two more times just to wink and touch my hand! Then his guitars came on and sat down next to me too! Definitely one of the best nights I ever have. Never thought this would ever happen to me! Crazy! Still in ahh! Sure made me feel like a million bucks! Thanks for creating a memory of a life time, Thomas Rhett! Love ur music! Glad you're so caring to ur fans and have a wonderful wife by your side for support!! Wish you a lifetime of amazing music! Can't wait to next time!!

I went to the Thomas Rhett concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on Wednesday November 29th 2017. Old Dominion and Walker Hayes were special guests to the show, they opened for him and were amazing. Old Dominion really got the crowd going! Thomas even said that he has never heard a crowd that loud! Thomas Rhett played an awesome show that will be UNFORGETTABLE, it was the best concert I have ever been to. Everyone knew all the songs and he was engaged with the crowd. He even took time to sign posters for the some of the fans. His band is awesome too!! I went with my mom and we had seats in row 9!! It was awesome!! By far the best concert yet!!

Thomas Rhett's show was amazing. From the opening song, "Crash and Burn," which set the tone of fantastic FX and heart twisting vocalizations, to his singing "Marry Me" on stage B to the impromptu Rhett Atkins songs he sang and his powerful closing with "T-shirt," the concert was one of the most memorable I will ever attend. My friend and I drove from Atlanta to be able to see him. The venue was fantastic and even solved our issue with visibility due to a faulty strobe light in section 207 of the Colonial Life Arena. The band was on fire and Thomas Rhett knows how to entertain a crowd and put on a show. I can't wait for the next one!!

So excited before the show. Love Thomas Rhett's music. The venue was a good size, even if the management were clueless about certain things (O2 priorities). Rhett Atkins (Thomas Rhett's dad) was supporting him and he was fantastic and could easily do a show on his own. Thomas was everything we had hoped for and more. The music was amazing, the lighting, backing musicians, fans. it was a great night and will definitely recommend his gigs to anyone and everyone. Counting down till he comes back to the UK again (hopefully in the very near future)

Saw Thomas Rhett at Jiffy Lube Live. Really liked his set up on stage. He interacted with the audience. Even signed some things for people while performing. He sang all the songs we want to hear. Make Me Wanna, It Goes Like This,Get Me Some if That, even his new one Crash and Burn.

He was wearing a suit and it was warm. I liked when he took off the suit jacket and had a summer print shirt underneath. I liked the casual look. He is definitely worth seeing.

The show was great! Both opening acts were really good, especially Old Dominion. But the Thomas Rhett part of the show was the best! At one point Thomas Rhett came from the stage to a small platform back in the crowd. We happened to be right next to it and when he came there to sing a few songs, it was really cool. He sang all of his songs! It was a wonderful concert!

After a blistering trio of performances at the UK and Ireland's C2C Festival, Thomas Rhett has returned to his trusty tour-bus as he embarks on his US Home Team run of shows, which kicked off in early May.

With shows lined up in Illinois, Missouri, New York, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and more, Rhett will be dusting off his formidable arsenal of hits and unleashing them on crowds across the US.

Here you can find Thomas Rhett's updated setlist as he embarks on his 2023 concert tour.

Judging from his recent setlists, he'll be performing a refreshing mix of both old and new fan-favourite tracks from across his sprawling discography, including ‘Life Changes’, ‘Die a Happy Man‘, ‘Look What God Gave Her’ and ‘Slow Down Summer’.

A number of the Georgia native's star-studded collaborations have made their way into his 2023 shows, including the Riley Green-assisted ‘Half Of Me’ and the Jon Pardi-featuring ‘Beer Can't Fix’, both of which pay tribute to the unique healing power of a cold one.

The ‘Marry Me’ hitmaker has also been weaving in a couple of unreleased tracks, such as the uptempo ‘Feeling Country’ , throughout his 2023 performances. Fans will be hoping they'll be getting to hear more snippets from the Thomas Rhett vault this summer.

With Rhett being known for his high-energy sets, one of the many highlights from his performances is inevitably his cover of ‘She Had Me at Heads Carolina’. Although cut by Cole Swindell, the loved-up anthem was co-written by Rhett, and his live renditions of the retro track are always greeted with a chorus of cheers.

Given the fact that Swindell is opening for Rhett this year, we wouldn't be surprised if the two join forces to perform ‘She Had Me at Heads Carolina’ throughout the tour.

Of course, in addition to the floor-fillers, Thomas Rhett also makes room for a few of his much-loved ballads, including ‘Country Again’ and his most recent single, ‘Angels (Don't Always Have Wings)’.

The singer was named a Spotify Hot Country Artist to Watch for 2021 – an accurate prediction as he rounded out the year with a record deal with Sony Music Nashville and is now making waves with his latest release, "Whiskey On You," which is now Gold-certified and Top 15 and climbing at country radio.

Thomas Rhett Details Fearless New Album 'About a Woman'

His seventh studio album will be released on August 23rd.

Already crowned as one of country’s most consistent-yet-dynamic modern superstars, Thomas Rhett’s seventh studio album ABOUT A WOMAN set for release Aug. 23 via The Valory Music Co., captures what he does best while going out on a creative limb.

LATEST NEWS

Because for artists like him, that’s where the thrill comes from. Pairing his laid-back perspective with a vocal drenched in casual country soul, Thomas Rhett has spent just over 10 years gathering 22 Number Ones, 16 billion streams and armfuls of awards and through that time, he’s never remained static. With both songwriting prowess and charisma, his career has been fueled by equal parts energy and emotion, to continually keep fans on their toes…and with ABOUT A WOMAN, he wants to put them on their feet. Beginning today, fans can pre-order the album  HERE  ahead of its next track release, the irresistible “Gone Country,” this Friday.   “From top to bottom, I wanted to exude joy and fun with this project – and really just make people move,” Thomas Rhett says, describing a set which takes timeless romantic nostalgia to country’s progressive cutting edge. “I went into making this record with a fearless attitude, put my blinders on and my head down to try and make really fun music."   Fourteen anthemic instant classics were the result, all but one co-written by Thomas Rhett, diverse in style but connected by a sense of movement. The tempos were kept high and the melodies tight, and while organic country makes up the foundation, layers of retro ‘80s sounds and thumping beats help him find new ways to do what he does so well – tribute a woman’s love. Now enjoying a life chapter that allows he and wife Lauren a little space to tend their romantic flame – the muse for so much of his work – the famous family man shines with renewed excitement.    “I feel like if you were to ask me what this record is about, the answer would be it’s about one woman, my wife, and it gave me an opportunity to say ‘I love you’ in a lot of different ways,” he adds.   Produced primarily by Dann Huff and Julian Bunetta, the set begins with the lighthearted “Fool,” fusing whistled hooks to a hip-shaking rhythm, and opening the kinetic-country floodgates before its already Top-30-bound lead single “ Beautiful As You ” explodes like a chain reaction of heart-pounding modern country. Emotions run hot in the thumping, chill-country standout “Overdrive,” while Thomas Rhett rides a romantic buzz until the sun comes up in the velvet smooth “After All The Bars Are Closed.” Tunes like “Gone Country” pair irresistible beats and a slow-burning acoustic groove for a tribute to the timeless attraction of country life, and with the smoldering “Something ‘Bout A Woman,” he takes an approach he’s never before considered, exploring the soulful spot where Stevie Wonder meets The Rolling Stones. Likewise, the star-crossed sway of “Back To Blue” seems to build on the story laid out in roots classics like “Fishin’ In The Dark” – both melodically and lyrically – and while Thomas Rhett calls “What Could Go Right” his favorite track on the album, tracks like “Country For California” offer a rare-for-him look at heartbreak.   Thomas Rhett doesn’t do much heartbreak, but even so, with a howling monster of a sing-along chorus, “Don’t Wanna Dance” is as epic as heartbreakers get. Built around an interpolation of the Whitney Houston mega hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” it turns the iconic song’s joyful desire upside down. The set closes on its only ballad, “I Could Spend Forever Loving You,” as Thomas Rhett signs off with a promise as genuine as it is tender – and so spacious it’s almost exposed.

ABOUT A WOMAN Track List:

“I buttoned the shirt right before I went on stage because I felt self conscious because y’all were making fun of me about the tank top,” Rhett said in a TikTok he shared on Tuesday evening (June 11). “Right before I was doing the interview with Ashley McBryde , one of the camera guys looked at me and goes, ‘suck it in.’ I swear he did! Looking out for me. … Jordan Davis let it fly.”

Essential Albums

Luke Combs’ chart-conquering “Hurricane,” a stormy torch song about a love the narrator just can’t quit, heralded the 2016 arrival of a towering new voice in country music. Combs’ North Carolina-tinged vocals—a combination of grit and soul as suited to intimate moments as arena-rocking grandeur—were something of a revelation in Music City; he clearly had the range. By the time his debut album, 2017’s This One’s for You, made good on the promise of “Hurricane,” Combs had just turned 27. His gruff voice and deft songwriting hand provided evidence that he was an industry-shaking talent. When Combs moved to Nashville in 2014, he made a point of working with untested names, like Ray Fulcher, with the intent of just writing songs that Southern boys like themselves would like to hear. He shows his age on songs like the rollicking drinking anthem “Beer Can” and the album’s second single “When It Rains It Pours,” a triumphant tale of a dumped slacker who hits an unbelievable “redneck roll” of good fortune. But even on his first album, it was clear Combs contains multitudes. “When It Rains It Pours” leads directly into the title track, a moving ode to the friends, family, and fans who supported him on his path to country stardom. On the earthy “I Got Away With You,” Combs sincerely compares his luck in love with pulling off a heist of the Crown Jewels. He turns the mood around again with “Honky Tonk Highway,” a roadhouse banger that recalls the punchy classics of Brooks & Dunn. Shuttling between these vibes sets the tone for Combs’ career, identifying him as an authentic presence in Nashville, a sensitive and down-to-earth balladeer who can also turn up and rock out. The 2018 deluxe reissue, dubbed This One’s for You Too, adds five tracks to the original that largely flesh out Combs’ sensitive side, with songs like the sweet “Beautiful Crazy” and heartbroken “She Got the Best of Me” paving the album’s way to going multiple times Platinum.

More To See

About luke combs.

Luke Combs’ rough-around-the-edges brand of country music provides a welcome foil to Music City’s polished radio fare, mixing versatile songwriting with hard-rock dynamics while always staying true to the genre’s established values. While new artists usually get a cold reception from country radio, Combs (born in 1990 and raised in North Carolina) barged right through any obstacles. His 2016 debut single, “Hurricane,” went to No. 1. The following year, his second single, “When It Rains It Pours,” went to No. 1. By 2019, Combs was the first country artist in history whose first seven singles went to No. 1—a streak he extended to a lucky 13—and he was soon headlining arenas. It seemed like overnight success, but it wasn’t. Combs molded his signature sound—a bold, yearning tenor, Southern rock guitars, hip-hop-imbued beats—and released three independent EPs before a major label signed him. It doesn’t hurt that he has an Everyman appeal, looking, he’s said, not like a star but like a typical country fan. In a sea of styled and coiffed Nashville stars, Combs' unkempt manner is a statement of rural masculinity. That attitude is reflected in his thick, raucous sound, but he’s also a diverse songwriter who covers a lot of ground: rowdy and loose, sweet and devoted, funny, and sentimental. Case in point is the faithful and impassioned 2023 rendition of Tracy Chapman’s classic 1988 track “Fast Car”—Combs’ self-proclaimed favorite song—from his fourth record, Gettin’ Old. In the ’90s, Garth Brooks gave country music the scope of arena rock; Combs has taken up that mantle, shaping it anew for his own generation while keeping the roots of tradition intact.

2024 U.S. Open predictions, picks: Ranking the field, favorites to win from 1-24 at Pinehurst

It starts with scottie scheffler, of course, but who else is primed to win the u.s. open.

rankingthefields-v2.jpg

The fourth U.S. Open at Pinehurst has arrived, and it sounds like the golf course is already a monster. While this type of setup likely opens the door for more than just the stars to walk through -- it takes juse one look at Pinehurst's history as a major venue to confirm that -- we decided to rank the top 24 in this field most likely to win the third major championship of the year.

Any list of the top 24 in any golf field in the world has to start with Scottie Scheffler, who is now looking for a second major in his last three starts after winning the Masters and finishing in the top 10 at the PGA Championship following his bizarre arrest and jailing in Louisville. He is the heavy favorite at 3-1, and yeah, he should be. Scheffler has won five of eight tournaments, solved the only thing that ailed him (a balky putter) and does not show any signs of slowing down. His U.S. Open history is sneaky-great, too, as we'll explore below.

Let's take a look at why each of these guys will play well starting with the guy who is playing the best golf since Tiger Woods was cooking back in the early to mid-2000s. And be sure to check out our U.S. Open predictions and expert picks  along with the nine golfers most likely to win the U.S. Open ahead of the year's third major.

2024 U.S. Open field, ranked

Parenthesis indicates the golfer's best finish at a U.S. Open

1. Scottie Scheffler (T2 in 2022): How about this for another Scheffler statistic? He's lost to just nine golfers in his last three U.S. Opens. That's difficult to remember given how much he's accomplished in that time, but he finished T7 at Torrey Pines, T2 at Brookline and 3rd a year ago at Los Angeles Country Club. The two gifts that really stand out as it relates to a U.S. Open at this golf course are his underrated short game (currently second in the world in 2024!) and his patience and course management. Both will be on full display and likely the reasons he wins his third major this week at Pinehurst No. 2.

2. Collin Morikawa (T4 in 2021): Morikawa has finished 2nd, 4th and 4th in his last three events and also has a sneaky-excellent U.S. Open history. He lost to three players at Torrey Pines, four at Brookline and then 13 a year ago at LACC. One quiet story so far in 2024 is how good his short game and putting have been. He has gained strokes in both categories across four of his last six events, which is scary given how accurately he hits it on a course like this one.

3. Rory McIlroy (Won in 2011): Speaking of somebody who has become sneaky-great at the U.S. Open, enter the runner-up a year ago. He has five (!) consecutive top-five finishes here and is playing at a clip quite similar to the last two years. It's simply that Rory's excellence has been consumed by everything Scottie has been doing. McIlroy gets a lot of credit for a lot of different things, but I'm not sure he gets enough for the way he has transformed himself into a solid U.S. Open player.

4. Xander Schauffele (T3 in 2019): How about this one? Schauffele has never finished worse than T14 at a U.S. Open in seven total attempts. Never worse than T14! That includes six top 10s and five top 7s. He's been outrageously good, and now he's entering this one fresh off the biggest win of his career at the PGA Championship. I've traditionally bumped Schauffele down to the bottom of the top 10 because of his inability to close out a major championship, but now that he's got one under his belt, it's not difficult to see a couple of them falling with how well-rounded his game is.

5. Ludvig Åberg (n/a): It's shocking to think that, as good as Åberg was as an amateur, this is his first U.S. Open. He has been almost inconceivably good for his first year on the PGA Tour with six top 10s and nine top 25s in 12 starts. I go back and forth on whether you want to enter major championships with experience (especially U.S. Opens), but I'm leaning on how great he was at the Masters, where he generated .35 xWins, according to Data Golf. In other words, his score at Augusta National compared to the rest of the field was expected to win 35% of majors. And that was his first-ever major appearance!

6. Bryson DeChambeau (Won in 2020): Bryson and Pinehurst are not the match one would expect for somebody who's in the No. 6 spot on this list, but that's how good he's been playing at the majors so far this season. He finished T6 at the Masters and 2nd at the U.S. Open. The only question mark is what he does around the difficult, fast greens at Pinehurst. He says he's going to run wedges into the banks and bump them up toward the hole, which is the opposite of what Martin Kaymer did when he putted his way around the place in 2014 en route to an eight-shot win. We'll see if it works for DeChambeau.

7. Brooks Koepka (Won in 2017 and 2018): Do I love how Koepka is playing coming into this event? No. Do I love how he's played at majors so far this year? Also no. Koepka gets all the benefit of the doubt at U.S. Opens, though, given he has two titles -- and dang nearly a third -- so he's proven himself in this arena. Opens are often less about physical ability and more about mental and emotional control. There have not been many better guys in those areas than Koepka over the last decade. I'm excited to watch him work.

8. Tommy Fleetwood (2nd in 2018):  This says less about Fleetwood as a true contender at this tournament and more about how few true contenders actually exist. Still, Fleetwood does have three top fives in his last seven U.S. Open starts, including one just a year ago at LACC. He's built for the Opens (both U.S. and the original) and hasn't missed a cut anywhere since March 10. He should contend here at some point this weekend.

9. Hideki Matsuyama (T2 in 2017): Matsuyama is being a bit forgotten about this week at Pinehurst, even though he has three top eight finishes in his last eight starts and a host of good showings at U.S. Opens. One stat that should encourage if you're picking Matsuyama? He's been the best in the world around the green so far in 2024. That's better than Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth -- better than 'em all.

10. Justin Thomas (T8 in 2020): I don't know why, but I have a sneaky J.T. feeling this week. The golf has been up and down, but there has been plenty of good: T5 at RBC Heritage, T8 at the PGA Championship. He has not putted well so far this year, but perhaps that gets a bit negated by a difficult, fast, wild golf course. His iron play remains elite -- Thomas has gained nearly two strokes on the field at the Memorial on approach shots -- and he tends to thrive in big time environments.

11. Viktor Hovland (T12 in 2019): I have been all over the place on Hovland, mostly because he's been all over the place himself. Before the PGA Championship, I thought he might finish outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup. After the PGA Championship, I thought he had a real chance to win a major this year. Then he ejected from the Memorial, and I have no idea what to think. Certainly the ball-striking is (and has been) good enough. The short game, though, remains to be seen. He's one of the most interesting guys in the field for me this week.

12. Max Homa (T47 in 2022): He has a strange U.S. Open record with absolutely no success to hang his hat on. Homa has four missed cuts in five appearances and never been in contention. It did feel like he turned a major championship corner in April when he contended at Augusta National, though. Plus he's a great iron player, which will be useful this week.

13. Jon Rahm (Won in 2021) :   Rahm withdrew from the U.S. Open on Tuesday citing concerns for his long-term health.

14. Matt Fitzpatrick (Won in 2022): He's had a similar season to J.T. in that he's been up and down and kind of all over the place. However, he enters this event off a T5 at the Memorial, and he's obviously a terrific U.S. Open player with a solid short game that could buoy him this week.

15. Will Zalatoris (T2 in 2022): I'm not that concerned about his middling play of late because of how awesome he's been at majors over the course of his career. In the last five U.S. Opens, only Scheffler, Schauffele, McIlroy and Rahm have a better strokes gained number than Zalatoris.

16. Tony Finau (5th in 2018): Finau has quietly been striking the heck out of the ball so far this year. He's gained strokes on approach in 12 of his 15 events and has top 20s in five of his last seven starts. I would be surprised if he didn't bounce back from his MC-MC-T32 run at the last three U.S. Opens.

Who will win the U.S. Open, and which longshots will stun the golfing world?  Visit SportsLine to see the projected U.S. Open leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed 12 golf majors, including the last three Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship.

17. Patrick Cantlay (T14 in 2023): I do not have a lot of confidence in where Cantlay is at with his game, but he's never missed a cut at the U.S. Open in eight total tries and has finished in the top 15 in each of the last three years. As with Morikawa and Schauffele, this event should set up perfectly for him, but it does seem a bit like all his work on the PGA Tour policy board is taking a toll on his success on the golf course as he's having arguably his worst season in the last eight.

18. Sahith Theegala (T27 in 2023): He's electricity defined as we saw at the PGA Championship. However, I'm concerned that the driver might get a bit too wayward and that he won't continue to get lucky lies in the waste and sandy areas. If he gets hot, though, Pinehurst will absolutely get behind him.

19. Jordan Spieth (Won in 2015): I nearly left him off this list because of how poorly he's playing. I couldn't do it, though, not with how he's driving the ball now and how magical he can be in any given event. I did not think I would be saying "well driver is fine, it's just everything else that needs help" about Spieth, but here we are. It's true, though. This is the best driving season he's ever had, and he can't stop missing cuts. Make it make sense.

20. Shane Lowry (T2 in 2016): Lowry has at times been a solid U.S. Open player, and he's had a nice little run of golf recently with a T6 at the PGA Championship and no missed cuts since January. Also has an absolutely filthy short game, which should play nicely this week.

21. Wyndham Clark (Won in 2023): Clark has had one of the weirdest years I can remember. He won Pebble Beach, nearly took Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass and Harbour Town, but then he missed the cut at both majors and the Memorial. I have to include him here as the reigning champion who has also been playing good golf (at times), but I don't do so with much confidence.

22. Sepp Straka (T28 in 2019): Why not us?! Straka has top eights in four of his last five stroke play events, and his iron play has been exquisite. It's true that he's not long off the tee, and that could hurt him, but if the irons are dialed, he's a sneaky fun pick to make some noise.

23. Cameron Smith (4th in 2023): Smith was awesome last year at LACC and finished T6 at this year's Masters. He's been pretty average since that finish at Augusta National, but like Lowry, his short game is magic and should carry the day for him at Pinehurst.

24. Russell Henley (T13 in 2021):  King of the "makes every cut he looks at but never contends to win" team. Data Golf has Henley ranked No. 8 (!) in the world, and a lot of that is because he's missed just one cut so far in 2024 (The Players Championship). He played in one of the final pairings back in 2021 at Torrey Pines, and this place is probably even better suited for him to do so again.
