Starlink internet pre-orders open in Sri Lanka
27 May 2024 09:56 pm - 26 - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}
Starlink aims to commence service in Sri Lanka in 2024, pending regulatory approval.
Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis within each coverage area.
Starlink’s Internet Constellation is one of the biggest breakthroughs in commercial satellite history. It brings nearly broadband-capable speeds and performance using a novel configuration of small satellites that work as a constellation while orbiting the Earth much lower than traditional satellites.
Earlier, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Elon Musk had sent an application to launch the Starlink service in Sri Lanka and preliminary work to bring Starlink to Sri Lanka has been completed.

What mad talk to ask for protest over this Tuesday, 28 May 2024 04:11 AM
Are you want to protest about people buying it because it cannot be controlled or censored local company internet. SLPP will put down there $9 USD for service.

It is good for consumers to have options. Starlink will dusturb local internet providers and break their monopoly. In a way it is a good thing. Prices will come down and remain competitive. Starlink does not perform well in heavy rain but one can't have everything.
Yaka Monday, 27 May 2024 11:38 PM
You clearly don't understand what a monopoly is. Starlink isn't priced competitively. It is a good solution for remote regions without connectivity. Sri Lanka has good coverage and reasonable pricing as well.
Cal Tuesday, 28 May 2024 07:20 AM

As an Indian I was very hurt when Elon Musk abruptly cancelled his well planed trip to India and instead visited China. Now this fellow is planing to visit Sri Lanka. Does he think that tiny Sri Lanka is more important than superpower India. Someone needs to educate him.
Ganesh Tuesday, 28 May 2024 01:51 AM
Finally the like of Dialog and SLT will stop fleecing people with stupid and confusing package options. Open the internet.
Kevin Tuesday, 28 May 2024 03:30 AM
Not useful for SL. Local broadband is way better. However some use for fishermen and the navy.
Banda Tuesday, 28 May 2024 05:21 AM
All bogus. Good bye 9usd
Ylg Tuesday, 28 May 2024 06:38 AM
I like it. If Elon Musk comes in then more will come in. But I am sure our idiot voters will change things tho.
Mizaru Tuesday, 28 May 2024 07:02 AM
A very expensive solution as it uses technology. The cost is very high. The initial fee for the hardware is UK £ 299 ( Sri Lanka Rs. 114,517) and the monthly speed is UK £ 75 / month (Sri Lanka Rs. 28,725/month. This is for residential use. The data speeds are Download: 25~100 Mbps and the Upload is 5-10 Mbps. A fiber connection from SLT is a lot faster and cheaper.
Mizaru Tuesday, 28 May 2024 07:13 AM
The A very expensive solution as it uses technology. The cost is very high. The initial fee for the hardware is UK £ 599 ( Sri Lanka Rs. 179,700) and the monthly speed is US $ 120/ month (Sri Lanka Rs. 36,000/month. This is for residential use. The data speeds are Download: 25~100 Mbps and the Upload is 5-10 Mbps. A fiber connection from SLT is a lot faster and cheaper. Another Ranil gimmick.
Chaminda Tuesday, 28 May 2024 08:01 AM
Not a bad thing to have. There could be some businesses that need high bandwidth and availability. However, neither essential nor affordable to 99% of Sri Lankans. Also we have other cheaper means of broadband. 500 USD for an installation and 100 USD per month for services would be pumping a lot of USD out of the country.
Dhammika Kosgama Tuesday, 28 May 2024 09:10 AM
It will become more important for users Internet as good compattiter with other multimillion network mafia and curruption
Sisil Sudesh Tuesday, 28 May 2024 09:32 AM
I checked the current applicable charges from the internet and found it to be 75 sterling per month, or Rs. 28000 approx. Unless Starlink gives a special price for us, I am afraid that the service would be out of reach for the majority. Rather than drive the prices down, other service providers maybe tempted to raise theirs!
Rohan Fernando Tuesday, 28 May 2024 10:07 AM
Definitely expensive for residential use.
