What Makes a Camper Trailer Ultra Lightweight?

Travel trailers are less expensive than RVing. If you have a truck or SUV, then it is easier to tow a camper trailer.

Although we’re focusing on the most lightweight units, there are still designs and features you must be aware of.

The only problem you could encounter is owning a model that does not have your necessities or won’t allow you to make adjustments.

What Should Know About the Weight

While large units weighing more than 3000-pounds tend to be bigger, they are also more likely to slow you down.

Back when I first had my RV trip, my vehicle took the tool. Now that I have a crossover vehicle, I discovered that it is best paired with a travel trailer that weighs 2,000 pounds or less.

It is easy to check the actual weight, but you must be aware that it is the unloaded or dry weight. When you add things and accessories, you can go beyond 2,000 pounds.

Typically, you’ll need to bring propane, groceries, water, air conditioner, generator, sleeping mats, and the like. Simply put, the gross weight depends on your needs.

Most of the time, a brand specifies how much added weight you can safely tow.

How Does the Floorplan Affect Weight?

The key formula is = Floorplan and Layout > Size

The floorplan could either make your trailer heavier or lighter. Hence, a well-designed floorplan is necessary.

For example, some travelers like to include household amenities such as loaded kitchens, dining area, storage, and bathrooms.

There are even models that allow users to pull out a section of the wall to create larger spaces.

Although there’s limited space, you can plan how to install a stove or an off-the-ground sleeping area.

If you have an excellent floorplan, you can even include solar panels, roof vents, WiFi booster, and an outside grill.

This is the very reason why I prefer ultra lightweight models because they keep a low profile outdoors.

With a good floorplan and manageable weight, it is easier to set up the trailer at campsites, especially as small camping grounds. At times, it’s even more convenient to set up a trailer than a tent.

This mobility gives you the freedom to pack your gears fast and then move to another location.

Convenient Towing

Although camper trailers are created to be spacious, they should be towable. It’s preferable to use a minivan or SUV for trailers weighing 2000 pounds or less.

Construction

The materials and construction add up to the unloaded weight.Even if a trailer is lightweight, it must have solid, sturdy walls.

This enables the trailer to keep intact during long hours of travel and unexpected weather change. In addition, rigid and tough walls should be capable of providing insulation from noise or cold.

Economical Features

There goes the saying that less is more. Larger trailers tend to use fuel fast, which leads to bigger operational costs. Meanwhile, small units will save you both on fuel and maintenance costs.

Compared to RVs, travel trailers are approximately 2 to 3 MPG better in terms of fuel economy.

Keep in mind that towing a loaded camping trailer diminishes the fuel efficiency of a towing vehicle by a couple of miles per gallon.

Therefore, owning a lightweight trailer means your towing vehicle won’t need 8 to 10 MPG when towing.Furthermore, a lightweight trailer means less space for an AC unit to heat or cool.

Taking Care of a Travel Trailer to Sustain Lightweight Operation

Maintaining a trailer depends on your usage. If you are a frequent traveler, do some maintenance works after each trip or at least once a month.

Here are some ways to keep your unit in good condition:

Check batteries before each trip.

Wash the trailer after each trip.

Open the vents after washing.

Drain the black and gray water waste (which comes from the sink and shower).

Drain the freshwater tank at least once a month.

Always check the tire conditions.

Buy a generator and battery charger in case of emergencies.

Install six-gallon water tanks for backup.

Keep your stuff organized.

If there are some mechanisms or parts you are unsure of, it’s better to let a professional fix it.

Make Camping Fun and Comfortable!

From solo travelers to couples and families—there’s an available ultra lightweight travel trailer! The efficiency and mobility are great investments for every wanderlust out there.

All of the lightweight trailers in this article are affordable and easier to drive and maneuver. Likewise, they require little setup time and have a better fuel economy.

The ultimate decision depends on your requirements and preferences. Yet, I can assure you that any of the models we’ve introduced would suit your needs.

Small campers under 2000 lbs is a very popular topic based on the number of views we receive on our YouTube videos about small campers that weigh less than 2000 lbs.

We have searched far and wide to create our list of the 8 Best Small Campers Under 2,000 pounds with bathrooms. We have searched and checked out hundreds of campers to bring you the top models in this category!

How Much Are Small Campers Under 2000 lbs?

The disparity in costs for small campers under 2,000 lbs is extensive, and for good reason. Some of these campers are purposefully simplistic, entry-level campers. Others are high-tech, off-road, highly durable machines that are positively loaded with amenities.

These amenities may include solar arrays, high-end batteries, inverters, smart home technology, auto leveling systems, hookups for various off-grid tech, water reclaim systems, and so on. Ultimately, it’s not a matter of the camper’s size and weight. What matters is what’s inside it and, to a lesser degree, the level of premium material in the structure.

8 Best Campers Under 2000 lbs With Bathrooms

High-tech or low-tech, everyone appreciates the value of a personal bathroom. Going outdoors is not so fun when it is 22°F outside! What better time to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Grizzly while you’re popping a squat? Thankfully, these 8 options will more than accommodate you and your privacy.

1. Bushwhacker Plus 15DS

Bushwhacker Plus 15DS Exterior Campers Under 2,000 lbs

Our Pros and Cons

✅ A surprising amount of space with a dry bath and separate shower

⛔ You’ll need to add stabilizer jacks on your own since it doesn’t come with them

  • Length: 15′ 6″
  • UVW: 1,960 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,300 lbs
  • CCC: 1,340 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 280 lbs

One of the first things you’ll notice when stepping inside the Bushwacker Plus is the surprising amount of space inside. In fact, they did such a good job putting this camper together that they were able to keep the shower and toilet completely separate.

Dual jack-knife sofas sit opposite one another, with an oval dinette/coffee table between them and a full kitchen in the front. You even get a fridge and an A/C unit, all within the same space and at a very affordable price range.

2. Travel Lite Rove Lite 14FD

Travel Lite Rove Lite 14FD Exterior

✅ Extremely durable and leak resistant with Azdel walls and gel-coat fiberglass over honeycomb

⛔ Bed conversion is pretty slim and you should probably add a memory foam layer

  • Length: 16′ 6″
  • UVW: 1,676 lbs
  • GVWR: 2,500 lbs
  • CCC: 790 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 160 lbs

The Travel Lite 14DS is one of the more fascinating campers under 2,000 lbs. It’s essentially a highly upgraded teardrop with a focus on a watertight, highly durable experience. The seamless roof certainly helps in that endeavor as well.

The 14DS is one of the rare models with high-end, premium materials yet avoids the usual weight increases. Due to the small black tank (only 5 gallons), it’s best to go with a cartridge toilet. However, outside of that, it’s hard to knock this little travel trailer that could.

3. nuCamp Tab 320

nuCamp Tab 320 Exterior

✅ Lagun table is one of the more customizable dinette/coffee table options in the industry

⛔ Cassette toilet is nice but doesn’t appeal to some RVers

  • Length: 15′ 3″
  • UVW: 1,969 lbs
  • GVWR: 2,900 lbs
  • CCC: 931 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 190 lbs

The nuCamp Tab 320 is nuCamp’s bridge between its larger 400 model and some of its smaller teardrop options. The 320 is large enough to include an interior kitchen with a two-burner stovetop and sink. The wet bath and cassette toilet are to the left of the kitchen counter.

A small fridge rounds out the interior, though it’s large enough to more than accommodate a couple. The microwave is optional, but there is more than enough interior space to hold one. You also get a 105-watt solar panel on the roof, Azdel, and fiberglass walls.

4. Little Guy Micro Max CT

Little Guy Micro Max CT Exterior Campers Under 2,000 lbs

✅ Roomy interior with enough dining space for up to 6 adults

⛔ Windows are kind of small

  • Length: 15′ 11″
  • UVW: 1,860 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,500 lbs
  • CCC: 1,640 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 260 lbs

The Micro-Max CT is all about packing a lot of features into a small space. Xtreme Outdoors, the manufacturer behind the Micro Max, includes a cassette toilet, dinette, storage cubicle, fridge, sink, stove, A/C unit, storage shelves, hidden storage, and a TV on a swivel into a tiny space, with room to spare.

All of the cabinetry is hardwood, so the interior aesthetic is rich and slightly glossy. Of all the campers under 2,000 lbs on our list, this is the only one that features a front and rear dinette. Though it won’t sleep 6 people, there is more than enough dining space to accommodate up to 6 guests!

5. Scamp 13′

Scamp 13' Exterior

✅ One of the most durable, waterproof campers under 2,000 lbs on the market

⛔ Scamps tend to have sterile interior aesthetics, which can be fixed with personal creativity

  • Length: 13′
  • UVW: 1,300 to 1,600 lbs
  • GVWR: 2,200 lbs
  • CCC: 600 to 900 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 100 lbs
  • Sleeps: 2 to 4

No list of campers under 2,000 lbs would be complete without a Scamp floorplan in there somewhere. The Scamp 13′ fits the bill perfectly. Its dual-fiberglass shell is a rare commodity in a saturated market, and it turns this camper into a veritable beast that’s practically waterproof.

The 13′ version comes in 5 floorplans, divided into two Deluxe options and three Standard options. No matter your current circumstances or needs, the Scamp 13′ probably has a floorplan that’s right for you.

6. Safari Condo Alto F1743

Safari Condo Alto F1743 Exterior

✅ Single-piece, seamless roof over a fully enclosed bathroom

⛔ CCC is high but storage tends to be limited throughout

  • Length: 17′ 9″
  • UVW: 1,877 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,000 lbs
  • CCC: 1,123 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : N/A

It’s no wonder this is one of the campers under 2,000 lbs since it seems like, at times, the entire thing is made out of windows. Of course, that’s not the entire tale because Altos are known for their extreme durability.

But if you’re all about natural light and beautiful interior aesthetics, stepping into the Alto F1743 is impressive. All of the windows feature blackout shades, so you don’t have to worry about sleepless nights with bright light pouring in.

7. Aliner Classic LXE

Aliner Classic LXE Exterior

✅ Huge cathedral-type ceiling allows for plenty of headspace

⛔ Lower cargo carrying capacity with limited storage options

  • Length: 15′
  • UVW: 1,795 lbs
  • CCC: 705 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 180 lbs

The A-Liner is one of the more unique-looking campers under 2,000 lbs. With its pyramid shape, you’ll have plenty of headspace to work with, which makes it a wonderful lightweight, small camper option for tall people.

There is a ton of sitting space when everything is folded in, with massive side windows to watch the rain fall on a bad weather day. Another plus for tall people is the 80″ bed conversion. Unless you play in the NBA, odds are good that your feet won’t be dangling off the edge.

8. Roulotte ProLite Profil

Roulotte ProLite Profil Exterior Campers Under 2,000 lbs

✅ Bunk beds are the perfect choice for hunters or traveling friends

⛔ Not very good about listing their specs

  • Length: 15′ 7″
  • UVW: 1,685 lbs
  • Tongue Weight : 185 lbs

The last on our list of campers under 2,000 lbs is the ProLite Profil , which is seemingly tailor-made for weekend hunting trips. The fully loaded interior has everything two people would need, including interior and exterior storage, a full kitchen, and a wet bath.

However, the dinette is also a bed option, so the Profil can more than accommodate a small family or a couple with friends along for the ride. The interior space is surprising and welcome, especially considering a UVW of 1,685 lbs.

What is a Cassette Toilet?

Cassette toilets are portable toilets with a removable, small holding tank. They are often found in campers under 2,000 lbs because they make for an excellent space-saving solution. They aren’t the most popular toilets in the RV industry, but they make sense at this level.

Since the cassette is removable from the exterior, you can dump it at a dumping station or a bathroom whenever it reaches its maximum limit.

Do Teardrop Campers Have A/C?

Some teardrop campers have A/C, and some do not. It really just depends. Campers under 2,000 lbs are in a class where no A/C is more probable than others. However, even if they don’t come with an A/C, 5,000 BTUs is more than enough to cover the small interior space and make an affordable addition.

Final Words About Campers Under 2000 lbs With Bathrooms

If you are considering buying one of these 8 Best Small Campers Under 2,000 lbs. with Bathrooms or any other camper or RV, we highly recommend that you “try before you buy.” Try before you buy, which means renting a camper or RV to try it out BEFORE buying it.

Susan and I did this before we bought our Class C RV . We rented a Class C for a 10-day vacation and learned everything we liked and didn’t like about it. This really helped us find the perfect Class C RV to buy. We highly recommend that you do the same thing. It will likely save you thousands of dollars and make you much happier with your buying decision.

Great video showing options

Do any of these have headroom of over 6 foot 2? Most seem to have 6 at the highest point.

Thank you, this is the list I have been looking for! Always love your youtube videos, too. Hoping to get our first camper in the next few years, just starting to learn. Yes, these are a lot of money, but it really seems to be like a car – msrp not the real price, finding used for a better deal, etc… If people go about buying a camper the same way they go about buying a car, deals are out there to be had….

I just purchased a Honda CR-V so I could pull a small trailer because I don’t want a pop up. I didn’t know that the campers I’ve been looking to purchase are all over my vehicles towing capacity. I really wanted a 17 foot rv. Any suggestions?

We bought the Alto condo 3years ago. Yes it’s pricey, but nothing compares! It tows like it’s not there, and especially through the Rockies, we passed people left and right. we always get people looking at it when we pull into a campsite. And what you didn’t point out, it’s modern sleek inside instead of 1980s decor which it seems like all the name brands are sticking with. and set up is 10 minutes tops and no arguing. Plus the windows are fabulous. Worth every cent we paid.

Where can I find Telescoping hard sides pop-up trailers. I don’t care for the canvass sides but would like to see over the camper as I pull it, if possible.

Trailmanors have a good reputation… https://trailmanor.com/ Check them out. Mike

Did you intend to leave casita out of the line up?

Hi Bob, I included them in my blog post called 7 Best Fiberglass Travel Trailer Brands. And I think Casita’s weigh more than 2,000 lbs … Thanks, Mike

We have a casita we got in 2017. We looked at them used and they were only about $1500 cheaper for older models. We got the 17ft with the dinette and full size bed brand new and upgraded. And we take really good care of it. We love camping in it. And we have the outdoor shower so we bring a shower tent and shower outside too. We try to prevent filling up the grey water tank. It was a great buy!

Please sign me up

Outrageous prices you are showing which are probably manufacturer listed. Nobody will pay these prices for these. You can get a brand new coleman fully loaded for $10k here. No comparison, not competitive and they are made as cheap as chinese plastic.

All prices are MSRP and you can negotiate a 35% discount off of these prices. Thanks, Mike

The Safari Condo Alto isn’t negotiable; they’re sold in the US direct-from-factory, they’re individually made-to-order, and what they charge is what you pay. You CAN buy from a couple of Canadian dealerships, but the Altos are so in-demand that the dealers don’t discount them much if at all. All that said, Altos are EXTREMELY well-made, rarely have any issues, and maintain their value really well. Like Airstream-well. That’s one of the reasons there’s a year and a half waiting period between ordering one and receiving it.

Also, your description of the Alto doesn’t mention its best feature: The retractable roof. When down, the Alto fits in a standard garage and is extremely aerodynamic and easy to tow. When up (at the push of a button), you get all those amazing windows and tons of head room.

to expensive!

Hi Joyce, Some would say too expensive and others think the price is right. Judging by the RV Show I attended the other day I would say there are plenty of people willing to pay these prices. But remember that the list price can usually be negotiated down about 35%. Thanks for reading the article and for your comment. Mike

Mike, as I go through these different models (small ones) I feel, well, like a loser. I know a lot of people can afford these easily, but not us. In spite of the fact that my husband is a Professor at the local college here – a full college, not a junior college, he’s still a teacher in a teacher’s salary. We’ve got a son with special needs, and healthcare didn’t include treatments until 2013, so at first, we had a lot of medical debt that took most of our income, but we recovered nicely. We tent camped a lot, but because of our situations, we need a tiny camper. We’re not poor or destitute, but we do live sometimes from paycheck to paycheck just as a lot of middle income people do. I started looking, around two summers ago, I looked into small campers for sale. YIKES! Not in our range! Then I tried looking at used – not much different, these tiny campers are keeping their value, unlike most recreational products, like boats. But I see why. Even the smallest or least expensive ones sport luxury items (to me) which we don’t need, like suround-sound media systems, TV’s, full sized fridges, temperature control, showers indoors, full sized bedrooms – operative word being ROOMS, and cabinetry that’s nicer than my home. We don’t need any of that. We just want a place to sleep, a toilet, and not much else. How and where can I find one like that besides a custom made teardrop who’s prices start at $6k completely hollowed out. Can you steer me in the right direction? I thought I’d saved up enough, 5 – 8k.

Hi Stacy, First of all, you aren’t a loser. You guys work hard under difficult circumstances so you have nothing to be ashamed about. And you aren’t the only ones who agree that the price of campers can be very high. Plus the prices we show in our articles and YouTube videos are always MSRP. You can always buy lower than MSRP – sometimes as much as 35% lower than MSRP. You can try looking on RVTrader.com and filter for used travel trailers priced from lowest to highest. There are some junk listings but there are also legit campers for sale in your price range. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are other good places to look. We actually bought our class C RV off of Facebook Marketplace! I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions! And join our Facebook group and ask the group where you can find a great deal on a camper. I bet you will get lots of good responses. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RVCampingforNewbies/ I hope to see you in there! Mike

I would consider getting a closed in utility trailer and fixing it up the way you want it. Lots of good ideas out there.

Look a used unit you can save alot of money.

The NuCamp TAB 320 S is a very popular teardrop camping trailer because it fits not only a wet bath but a kitchenette inside this well-designed small RV.

The camper comes ready for solar installation for off-grid adventures, and the kitchen features a 2-burner glass-top stove, stainless steel sink, and a 12-volt refrigerator. In addition, you can choose to step up to the convenience package for all-year camping comfort with central air conditioning and an Alde hydronic heating system to warm the interior and for hot showers.

Outdoors you’ll find an outdoor shower and rugged exterior for easy maintenance. In addition, the trailer comes standard with electric brakes to increase towing safety .

2. Safari Condo Alto R1753

The Safari Condo Alto R1753 is a super-cool teardrop camper that is lightweight, compact, and packs in the features and amenities.

The highlight of the Alto is the TOPS lifting roof with rigid side walls that provides extra headroom at the campsite yet retracts for a lower towing profile that reduces drag and fuel expense while on the road.

The design of this camping trailer allows in tons of daylight through the many tinted windows, including one that curves across the sides that give this camper a sleek and unique appearance.

The trailer interior features a wet bath with a flush toilet (has a black tank) and shower but no sink. The rear seating converts to a king-size bed, while the front dinette offers conversion to a twin.

You can adjust the seating cushions and move the table to create either a two or five-seat dinette and leave the other area set up as a bed, which is an unusual amenity in such a small camper.

The kitchen features a two-burner stove, microwave, fridge, and lots of storage. The interior design offers choices for color schemes, has a combination space and water heater for comfort, and provides an almost futuristic look that customers love.

This trailer is ultra-lightweight by using materials such as Alufiber cladding, aluminum framing, and Formica that is water and rot-resistant, easy to maintain, and very durable.

The dinette adjusts to various sleeping arrangements and can accommodate an extra small child if you want to camp as a family. The control center keeps track of all your tank levels, and the entertainment center offers a swivel-mount TV with HDMI, speakers, DVD, MP3, MP4, and Radio Antenna ports for all your needs.

The tinted, insulated, dual-pane windows tilt upward almost 90-degrees for excellent views and airflow while at the campsite. In addition, the camper comes standard with an exterior TV mount and speakers, a rear hitch receiver for carrying a bike rack , a large storage compartment, and Dexter electric brakes.

4. Travel Lite Rove Light Ultra

The Travel Lite Rove Light Ultra trailers offer three floorplans with wet baths, all made with HydroLight construction that uses no wood substrate and is impervious to water penetration.

The shape of this ultra-lightweight travel trailer is more traditional, with higher ceilings and more floor area, so RV trips are more relaxing. The interior design feels modern and bright, with cargo netting on the overhead cabinets making the space feel larger, but you may wish to add doors to hide your belongings.

The wet bath has a toilet and shower but no sink. However, the Fantastic vent clears the humidity or odors from the room quickly, and the on-demand water heater keeps the hot water flowing.

The kitchenette features a 3-cubic-foot fridge, two-burner stove, sink, large solid-surface counter and table, and overhead storage to prepare meals indoors when camping, which is an excellent option on days when the weather isn’t cooperating for outdoor grilling.

The sofa and dinette convert to sleeping quarters. Customers suggest that after setting up camp, it’s convenient to leave the large bed permanently in place and use a folding table in front of the sofa for meals and games.

You can choose to add an awning for outdoor living protection, and the electric brakes and integrated stabilizing jacks make towing and moving inside the camper more stable.

With such an affordable price tag, and long-lasting construction and materials, you can’t beat the value of this camping trailer for solo, couple, or small family RV trips.

5. Aliner Expedition

The Aliner Expedition expandable travel trailer opens into a roomy camper with enough space to sleep up to four guests comfortably. In addition, the design allows more interior headroom and taller countertops and beds, which leaves room for more storage underneath.

You can choose from two floor plans, one with a sofa bed and one with a permanent rear queen-size bed. The rest of the camping trailer includes a kitchen area, a convertible dinette up front, and a cabinet that opens to access the swiveling cassette toilet.

While this small RV doesn’t provide full bathroom amenities, it does have an outdoor shower and a water heater so you can wash up with hot water when necessary. Guests will also want to vacate the interior when others use the toilet for privacy reasons.

This camper is all about function, with a compact kitchen featuring a sink, 2-burner stove, small fridge and freezer, and a microwave. The cover over the sink provides more counter space for food prep.

Other standard features include a furnace, air conditioner, four stabilizer jacks, premium marine-grade flooring, two skylights, two outdoor baggage compartments, and plenty more.

If getting away with your family in a camper you can keep in your garage, the Aliner Expedition should be on your shopping list. You can park the trailer in your garage between short RV trips, reducing storage costs.

However, be aware that Aliners require manual expansion during setup, unlike other expandable campers that open with power.

6. Scamp 13 Deluxe

Thank you for signing up, we'll be in contact soon., want to connect with a community of over 1,078 rv enthusiasts.

The Scamp 13 Deluxe with the front bathroom gives you all the basic amenities you need while camping on or off-grid.

This lightweight camping trailer provides a wet bath, so you can use the toilet and shower indoors, which is almost unheard of in such a tiny RV.

The Scamp 13 has a two-burner stove and a sink in the kitchen area. However, the fridge is little, and you may want to consider bringing along a cooler to keep extra food and drinks cold.

The rear dinette converts to sleeping quarters at night for cozy campsite rest between outdoor adventures. The interior offers excellent storage for gear, with compartments under the dinette seats, overhead cabinets, and closet.

You can choose from oak or birch interior hardwood finishes, but the interior otherwise is relatively bland, leaving room for owners to add more color and personalization to the space.

All Scamp trailers are fiberglass-molded in two seamless parts, eliminating the fear of water leaks and rot damage typical to most standard-built recreational vehicles. The curved exterior shape also reduces drag during towing to help with fuel economy.

Note that when you buy a Scamp, you’re purchasing directly from the Minnesota manufacturing plant of this family-run business. This fact means you’ll need to come pick it up in person or arrange with the company to ship it to your location.

Scamp 13 Deluxe (Video)

7. Roulettes Pro-Lite Evasion

The Pro-Lite Evasion comes from a Canadian manufacturer of lightweight travel trailers. This roomy camper provides a fully-enclosed wet bath, along with convertible sleeping, lounging, and dining areas for maximum camping flexibility.

The kitchen area features a deep sink with a high-rise faucet, microwave, and a two-burner stove. Across the way, you’ll find a nice size Dometic refrigerator with a large cabinet above.

There are more storage compartments throughout the inside and exterior of the trailer to ensure all the necessities can come along on RV vacations.

The camper has a pop-up front hatch with a window underneath to enjoy the views and bring more daylight into the trailer. With plenty of other windows with screens you can open, fresh air is always at your fingertips.

You can choose to add an awning, but the trailer comes standard with four stabilizer jacks, electric brakes, 16,000 BTU furnace, 15-gallon holding tanks for fresh, black, and grey water, and much more.

Quality construction and materials keep this travel trailer lightweight, making it ideal for towing by many SUVs and vans. In addition, the company offers other smaller and lighter travel trailer models that include a bathroom such as the Plus S or the Profile that are worth checking out.

Pro-Lite Evasion (Video)

Final Thoughts

With more people owning SUVs, vans, and sedans with towing capacity, knowing which lightweight travel trailers are safe to take on RV trips is essential. Or maybe you have a heavy-duty truck but prefer the simplicity of a small camping trailer.

RV camping is more than just having a secure place to sleep and cook. Having the ability to use the toilet or shower at your campsite makes any trip much more convenient and stress-free versus worrying about using campground facilities or finding a place to go when you’re boondocking or taking a break when you’re on the road.

That’s why I detail the best travel trailers under 2,000 pounds with bathrooms to help you comparison shop and make a final buying decision.

All the travel trailers above check the boxes for being lightweight and offering interior bathroom fixtures, ample sleeping quarters, a kitchen, storage, and other features that will make any camping trip more enjoyable.

Manufacturers should make the suspension and tires a priority as much as the entire construction. Since one of the main uses of small RVs is off-roading. This is where a solid foundation and great tires are essential to counter the bounces due to the rough terrain.

Entertainment and Add-on Features

Features, such as TVs , DVD players, USB connections, and air conditioning are all important for different reasons, but they do make a huge impact. Sometimes after a long day of outdoor  summer hiking, a movie might with the aircon on is what's needed.

Can You Really Find a High Quality Affordable Travel Trailer Under 2000 Lbs?

Yes, you can. In this day and age, quality and affordability are far from being trade-offs. The smaller the trailer, the less features it can have, so naturally, a travel trailer under 2000 lbs won't have all the expensive features a larger one will have, so like-for-like, it will be cheaper.

When To Use a Travel Trailer Under 2000 Lbs

There are many reasons you might want to use a travel trailer that weighs no more than 2000 lbs. let's take a look...

travel trailer under 2000 lbs

Cheaper Travel

The biggest use of travel trailers, according to consumers, is low-cost traveling. They can help you save on excessive restaurant meals, hotels, airfare, etc. The only costs you will incur include fuel, insurance , and RV parks etc.

It’s extremely easy to set up a smaller trailer at various campsites, especially ones that limits the size of trailers allowed. This allows you more options, and we haven't even mentioned off-road camping - something that's almos impossible with a larger trailer.

Of course, a small travel trailer under 2000 lbs won't have the same storage space as bigger travel trailers , but if you compare it to camping in tents or even pure off road trailers , you'll have much more storage space .

GVWR vs Dry Weight

Dry weight is the vehicle weight without any kind of automotive fluids present, whereas GVWR is referred to as the weight limit specified by the trailer manufacturer. This limit establishes how heavy the vehicle is capable of being before it reaches a level that’s deemed unsafe.

What is Dry Weight on a Camper?

As mentioned earlier, the vehicle's total weight without any cargo, passenger, or fluids is called dry weight. Dy weight and curb weight might be similar, but the difference is that you exclude any kind of automotive fluid needed for operation in the former.

What is GVWR on a Travel Trailer?

GVWR on a travel trailer means the maximum loaded weight of the trailer or vehicle, which is recommended by the manufacturer. It includes not only the weight associated with the cargo and passengers but also the weight of the vehicle itself. This gross vehicle weight rating is ensured to determine safety.

Aliner vs Teardrop

The name of both campers originates from their shape. As a result, Aliners are shaped like an A. The teardrop trailer, on the other hand, is shaped somewhat like a teardrop. Here’s how the two compare:

Both Aliner and teardrop campers are very easy to tow. When Aliners are folded down, they are very lightweight and are generally easy to tow. Similarly, teardrop trailers tend to be lighter than other models, so they're cheaper to haul as less fuel is utilized.

The capacity associated with both types of trailers is similar as well, whereby they're perfect for a single person or couple camping. Thus, in essence, they can cater to two people while ensuring comfort.

Headroom Space

An advantage that Aliner campers have over teardrop campers is plenty of headroom space. When you are inside an Aliner, you won't feel claustrophobic. Also, you can stand straight up without any difficulties if you’re too tall. Hence, headroom is where Aliners have an advantage because you can’t enjoy it in teardrop campers.

Travel Trailers Under 2000 lbs FAQs

What can you tow with 2000 lbs.

21 Best Travel Trailers Under 2500 lbs and 2000 lbs

Photo of author

Navigating the realm of lightweight campers can be a daunting task, given the plethora of options available. Deciphering which trailers strike the perfect balance between quality and sought-after features, such as a bathroom, without compromising a weight limiter to fit the options to a reduced towing capacity seems challenging. That’s why we put together this review of floor plans and brands about this elusive category with the best travel trailers under 2500 lbs. dry weight (and perhaps even exceeding expectations by staying under 2000 lbs ., which adds an extra layer of complexity). This video below is just a sneak peek of some travel trailers with bathrooms featured in this buyer’s review.

Looking for good quality campers under 2500 lbs or less (with options weighing even less than 2000 lbs) is not easy. However, there are a lot of possibilities. Space can be considerably reduced, and the options are becoming less and less comfortable, going from comfortable travel trailers with bathrooms under 2500 lbs to teardrop trailers under 2000 lbs.

In the following paragraphs, I will show you today’s top options for the best travel trailers under 2500 lbs from different manufacturers, digging into their floorplans and features. We also include 10 options for travel trailers under 2000 lbs.

Let’s see the 21 Best travel trailers under 2000 and 2500 pounds for 2023 with specifications, highlighted features, floorplans, some prices, owners’ reviews, and videos.

Why Choose Travel Trailers Under 2000 lbs. and 2500 lbs?

Why choose Campers Under 2000 and 2500 lbs dry weight? In addition to being some of the lightest trailers on the market, they have other advantages. Let’s dig into the advantages of travel trailers under 2500 and 2000 lbs.

First, you will find several options for walkable travel trailers. No need to buy a teardrop trailer if you want a camper under 2000 pounds.

The second reason is related to another type of lightness camper: the pop-up campers. Pop-up campers are very lightweight, but their value depreciates quickly.

Travel trailers under 2000 lbs. and 2500 lbs. are short , therefore, really easy to maneuver and small enough to store in any garage. Moreover, less weight is less fuel consumption, lowering the travel costs.

Also, it is a great way to leap from tent camping, keeping you on a budget, as there are affordable options on the market compared to luxury travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Some of these trailers have a bathroom, which is highly advantageous.

#3 – Safari Condo Alto Travel Trailers Under 2500 Pounds with Bathroom

From our readers of Canada, we have received a good review of Safari Condo Motorhomes and Travel trailers ( les Caravanes Safari Condo). In this case, we review the Safari Condo Alto F2114 Travel Trailer with toilet and shower for under 2500 pounds.

The F21 Series of travel trailers by Safari Condo proposes the Safari Condo Alto F2114, a travel trailer under 2500 lbs with a bathroom, among other great features, as seen in the photos below.

alto f2114 travel trailer with bathroom under 2500 pounds

Some of the features to highlight are the two single beds convert into a real 80″ X 81″ King size bed, which can be permanently set up for your convenience. The front dining area offers seats for 4 people and can be converted into a 60″ X 81″ Queen size bed.

Having a bathroom and keeping the weight of a trailer under 2500 lbs. is not easy (precisely with a dry weight of 2368 lbs.) However, Safari Condo successfully achieves this, mostly keeping the structure entirely constructed from composite materials, combined with the resistance of fiberglass and an aluminum frame constructed without welding, creating a great balance between quality and lightness. Alto F2114 is equipped with a fixed flush toilet with a black water tank and a fully enclosed interior shower.

Safari Condo sells their RVs in the USA directly from the factory. Prices in Canada are about $ 58,000 (CAD). We recommend to check with them for more information.

#4 – Sonic Lite SL150VRK Travel Trailer with Full Dry Bathroom Under 2500 lbs

Sonic Lite SL150VRK by Venture RV used to be one of the lightest travel trailers with a rear full dry bathroom and a front Murphy bed, all under 2500 lbs and as short as 19 feet.

Models from 2018 for example, used to have a UVW (dry weight) of 2,480 lbs. Therefore, the Sonic Lite SL150VRK was a great floor plan with a full dry bathroom and a kitchen inside the camper, including a panty, wardrobe, and a front Murphy bed. All in a travel trailer under 2500 lbs.

New models of the same floor plan (SL150VRK) are heavier than they used to be. A dry weight of 3,180 lbs. puts this camper out of our list of the best travel trailers under 2500 lbs on the market. However, if you find it from previous years, check the weight specifications because this floor plan is worth every dollar.

  • Make: Venture RV

5 Travel Trailers Under 2000 lbs (Some Options with Bathroom!)

We often see a lot of teardrops under 1500 and 2000 lbs as options for travel trailers. However, you know (without needing to try traveling on a teardrop) that it will not be comfortable… Don’t get me wrong. Teardrops are great if the towing capacity of your vehicle limits you and if you don’t mind mainly having all your activities outside the camper. Bathroom, shower, cooking, everything must be planned outside of a teardrop camper. And when the weather is not on our side, rainy days can be a problem laying down for hours, maybe days…

For some reason that we are not aware, most websites dedicated to reviewing RVs and giving advice on this topic are always mentioning the same manufacturers and the same teardrops instead of showing all the options available on the market, genuinely walkable travel trailers under 2000 lbs and support local businesses, which by the way, have great brands of RVs with good quality for the money and outstanding customer care.

We are not affiliated with any RV manufacturer and are interested in sharing our experiences with our readers and the experiences shown by our folks’ RV owners.

Here are some of the best travel trailers under 2000 lbs, and some also include a bathroom and a kitchen inside! You will find many options on this list of 5 walkable campers under 2000 pounds.

#12 – Safari Condo Alto F1743 2000 lb Camper with Bathroom

Understanding Dry Weights and Gross Weights of Campers

It is essential to differentiate between the different types of weights that make up the camper specifications.

The “ dry weight ” is also known as the “Unloaded Vehicle Weight” (UVW). It represents the weight of the camper without any load.

Different floor plans may allow other maximum loads, and this weight is known as the “CCC”, the “maximum cargo capacity” . In general, the addition of the CCC weight and the UVW weight represents approximately the “Gross Weight” or “GVWR” , which is the weight of the fully loaded camper.

So, how this works? If the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle is 2500 lbs., it is advisable not to look for campers of your maximum towing capacity. You should go no more than 70-80% to have some margin of safety.

Top 10 | Ultra-Lightweight Travel Trailers Under 2000 Pounds

Published on November 14th, 2019 by Brian Newman

When you’re buying a travel trailer, the price may be the top consideration; however, you also need to consider your tow vehicle and how you want to camp. If you already have a truck or an SUV, it’s a good idea to keep the weight of your trailer at 80% or less of the maximum tow capacity – a benefit of ultra-lightweight travel trailers. Likewise, if you plan to spend most of your time in RV parks or off-grid may also ultimately determine your trailer.

If you already have a ¼ ton truck or SUV , then ultra-lightweight travel trailers may be the right choice. Likewise, if you plan on spending a lot of time “boondocking” outside of an RV park, a smaller, more maneuverable trailer will serve you best.

We’ve compiled a list of the ten best ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds on the market today. In our opinion, these are durable, with a stylish design and an excellent level of craftsmanship. These models also have extra features and options that go the extra mile to make your camping experience completely enjoyable.

Anyone who’s spent anytime RVing has probably seen a Scamp; they are the classic lightweight fiberglass trailer. The style hasn’t changed at all over the decades. The Scamp ranges in length from a tiny 13’ at 1,200-1,500 pounds to a more generous 19’fifth-wheel, weighing in at 2,400-2,900 pounds. Scamps are all made to order and sold directly from their factory in Backus, Minnesota.

Scamps have a multitude of features and options. The Deluxe 13′ Front Bathroom models come equipped with a toilet and shower, and weigh in at a very modest 1300-1600 pounds. The 16’ Standard models weigh in at 1750-2000 pounds. If you want to step up to a 16’ Deluxe model, for an extra 200 pounds, you can get a shower.

The interiors are appointed with oak or birch hardwoods, and your choice of carpet or vinyl floors. The styling is basic and practical, and ready to style as your own. These classic little trailers are not only sturdy, but they also have everything you need to live comfortably on the road.

The Cricket Camper

The Taxa Cricket is a pop-up camper with a rugged, space-age look. It would look great towed behind your Jeep! It weighs in at 1,800 pounds and is 15’ in length, and it has a high ground clearance to get you deep into the backcountry.

One great thing about this camper is the airy, well-ventilated interior. It also has an interior kitchen with a 2-burner stove, a refrigerator, a sink, and a generous countertop for meal prep. This little pop-up trailer also has a dining table. Likewise, there’s an exterior shower with hot and cold water. You can also get a cassette toilet as an option.

The pop-up roof offers extra headroom, and depending on the model, you can add a roof-rack to carry all of your gear. Moreover, the body is Kynar-Painted and also has UV-resistant aluminum panels. It also comes with all-terrain tires and is pre-wired for solar.

A-Liner produces the distinctive, hard-top ultra-lite pop-up trailers you may have seen. The classic A-Liners have a low profile when towing, and weigh less than 2,000 pounds with a length of 18’. The Family Scout model also has an interior shower and a toilet, and still comes in at less than 2,000 pounds. While A-Liner trailers come equipped with a small refrigerator, they don’t have kitchens.

A-Liner has three different lines of trailers, their classic A-shaped hard-topped pop-up trailers, the Ascape, and soft-sided pop-up trailers.

The Great Ascape Plus is perhaps their most comfortable model, with an exterior shower, a kitchen, and a cassette toilet, all at 1850 pounds.

The Riverside Retro Travel Trailer

This is brand produces simple, high-quality trailers with a retro look and feel. These durable little travel trailers feature an interior of birch wood walls and furniture, reminiscent of an old Silverstreak trailer. The retro look is complete with a checkered tile floor. The frames are built with aluminum, and they’re pre-wired for solar.

While Riverside makes several models of Retro travel trailers in a range of lengths, only one could be considered an ultra-lightweight travel trailer; that’s the Retro511 weighing in with a dry weight of 1650 pounds and a length of 12’8″. One thing to note, this trailer has an outdoor shower, but it does not have a toilet inside.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro Series

Forest River is a well-known and trusted brand that not only produces ultra-lite trailers, but they also manufacture quality fifth-wheels, motorhomes, and park models.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro travel trailer is not only affordable, but it’s also lightweight and beautifully appointed. The interior is a sleek, soft gray that can be customized any way you like. Best of all, for those who wish to boondock, a WIFI Ranger booster and a solar panel mounted on the roof with a 1000 Watt converter comes standard on most models.

The E-Pro series has seven different floor plans, which can sleep two to four people. The lengths range from a tiny eleven feet to twenty-one feet. The unloaded weight ranges from just over 1,100 pounds to around 3,200 pounds. The two models under 2,000 dry-weight are the EK12K at 11’ 4” weighing in at 1252 pounds and the E12SRK at 12’ and 1763 pounds. Both of these models feature an outdoor kitchen and grill, and neither has a bathroom.

If you can afford to tow a little more weight, the E15TB weighs in at 2483 pounds with a length of 15’ 10”. This model not only has an outdoor grill, but it also has an interior kitchen and a wet bath with a shower and a toilet.

The Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro

The Rockwood Geo Pro series is designed to work with today’s smaller and more fuel-efficient SUVs. These trailers also come with a 100W solar panel on the roof and a 1000W inverter. Likewise, a WiFi Ranger signal booster comes standard.

The two models that are under 2,000 pounds are the G12RK at 11’ 4” and 1252 pounds, and the G12SRK at 12’ long and 1763 pounds. Like the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro series, the interiors are decorated in a soft, neutral, and contemporary light gray.

The queen-sized bed dominates the interior of the G12RK. This unit has an exterior kitchen and a grill, a generous 20-gallon freshwater tank, but there is no bathroom.

The G12RK has a gaucho-style sofa that folds out into a bed, giving this unit a little more interior floor space. It also has an outdoor kitchen, a 26-gallon freshwater tank, but no bathroom.

If you’d like an interior kitchen and a bathroom, and can afford to tow a little more weight, the G15TB weighs in at 2483 pounds. This trailer is nearly 16’ long, and has twin beds.

The Jayco Hummingbird

Jayco is among the most highly rated RV manufacturers for quality. The Hummingbird series has seven models, ranging in a dry weight of 1,545 to 3,015 pounds and lengths of 13’ to 20’. These trailers are pre-wired for solar.

The only one that qualifies as an ultra-lite is the 10RK, weighing in at 1,545 pounds and 13’ long. The floor plan is basically like a teardrop trailer; the interior filled with a bed, a TV, and an outdoor kitchen. It has a generous 25-gallon freshwater tank, but it does not have a shower or a toilet.

The Intech RV Luna

This styling on the Luna is ultra-modern, and the high clearance allows you to go almost anywhere. It has a raised suspension, off-road tires, and a roof rack, making this a great little trailer to tow behind your 4×4. The Luna weighs in at 1,800 pounds with a length of 15’ 6”.

One of the best things about this teardrop trailer is the huge, panoramic front window for great views. Unlike most teardrop style trailers, the Luna has front bench seats and a table at the front. This allows you to comfortably look out of the large front window and admire the view. Likewise, the rear futons fold out into beds or fold up as seating. The outdoor kitchen has a 3-burner stove, a refrigerator, a sink, microwave, and lots of cabinet space. The Luna also features an entertainment center with a 32” TV.

If you want to camp in style and comfort, the Luna might just be the lightweight teardrop for you.

The Roulottes Prolite

This is a Canadian manufacturer, but they do have a few dealerships in the United States. Roulotte travel trailers use ultra-light materials from start to finish during construction. Likewise, they’re very aerodynamic, which makes for easier towing.

The smallest model weighs in at an incredible 550 pounds and is 11’ in length, while the biggest model weighs 3,700 pounds and is 23’ 4”. Overall, Roulette has eleven floor-plans that are less than 2,000 pounds. Prolites are built with a one-piece, fiberglass shell roof, that’s resistant to UV rays. Furthermore, the walls are insulated with DuroFoam, for long-lasting thermal performance.

The larger models, while still very lightweight, feature full kitchens and bathrooms. Some even have slideouts. For example, the Mini has a wet-bath, a kitchen with a large sink, a two-burner stove, and lots of counter space, all in a 14’ length weighing in at 1,150 pounds.

While it may be hard to find in the U.S., a Roulette Prolite may be worth a trip across the border.

Armadillo Trailers

This is another Canadian manufacturer, and Armadillos look very similar to the classic Scamps. While all Armadillos come in a 13.5’ two-piece fiberglass shell, there are five floor-plans to choose from. Furthermore, Armadillos are very well insulated and are designed to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

These little trailers are carefully built with the best materials. You can customize the interior with a choice of several interior colors and fabrics, and have your choice of a dinette, a convertible couch, or even bunk beds. Armadillos also come equipped with a stove, kitchen sink, and a refrigerator. However, there are no options for a bathroom.

Final Thoughts

Before you purchase any trailer, carefully consider the type of lifestyle, you’d like to have while camping or living on the road. Most of these ultra-lightweight travel trailers don’t have a toilet or a shower, which may be OK for a short trip to a campground with a vault toilet. However, for a longer trip, or if the weather gets bad, that may not be acceptable. There is a lot to consider, so make your choice carefully, and enjoy your life on the road!

Table of Contents

When looking to buy a travel trailer, everyone considers several factors. How important each point is to you largely depends on your requirements.

Best Lightweight Travel Trailers Under 2,000 lbs:

  • Riverside Retro Travel Trailer
  • Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro Travel Trailer
  • Palomino PaloMini Travel Trailer
  • Jayco Hummingbird Travel Trailer
  • Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro Travel Trailer
  • Cricket Camper
  • Scamp Travel Trailer
  • Roulotte ProLite
  • Aliner Ascape
  • Armadillo Trailers
  • InTech RV Luna

Price is probably at the top of most people’s list, closely followed by weight and dimensions. The latter two are especially important if our vehicle has a limited towing capacity, or if we’re trying to pull the trailer through locations with height or width restrictions.

If you’d like to avoid towing as much weight as possible, consider one of the ultra-lightweight travel trailers on our list. All of them keep the tow weight under 2,000 pounds.

There are scores of travel trailers out there and dozens of brands. Most of them make trailers of varying weights and sizes and a range of specs and floor plans. The sheer diversity of travel trailers can make shopping for one a daunting exercise, even more so if this is the first time you’re venturing into the world of travel trailers.

You may know that travel trailers can easily weigh under 2,000 to over 5,000 pounds. Luxury travel trailers can weigh substantially more than 9,000 pounds. As a rule of thumb, the longer and more spacious the travel trailer is, the more it is likely to be considered.

The upside of these larger trailers is that they have more capacity. The interiors can border on the luxurious and are often more akin to well-appointed apartments than a portable travel trailer.

Those looking for ultra-lightweight travel trailers weighing under 2,000 pounds are in luck, as many options are available.

The biggest challenge is filtering out everything that doesn’t meet your needs and choosing the best out of what’s left.

To create our list of the top five ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds, we have used a range of quality markers, which cover. Still, we are not limited to, make and durability, design and craftsmanship, user and expert reviews, the features you get, the options or upgrades you may consider, and the variants that are available for each.

Support is also crucial, particularly for those buying a travel trailer for the first time. Each point has been scored rated and compared with the competition, So, without further ado, here are the five best ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

1. Riverside Retro 511 Travel Trailer

The Riverside Retro Travel Trailer is simple, retro, and simply brilliant. It sports a conventional look and is as helpful as light travel trailers can be. Do not be mistaken by its apparent simplicity; there are 11 floor plans for you to choose from.

Unfortunately, there is only 1 of these 11 floor plans that would meet your prerequisite of unloaded weight under 2,000 pounds. The other 10 plans will breach that threshold, but not always by a lot. The travel trailers within this series range from approximately 1,900 pounds all the way up to 6,100 pounds.

The length ranges from thirteen feet to thirty-two feet. The smallest trailer in this series can accommodate two people. The largest can easily sleep six people in comfort. We want to keep things as lightweight as possible, so we must focus on the Retro 511. It’s the only one with an unloaded weight under 2,000 pounds.

The durable Riverside Retro travel trailers come in bright colors, feature birch wood furniture, a checkered floor, a six-cubic-foot fridge, curtain toppers or mini blinds with birch valance, aluminum cage construction, and a solar-powered port rated for fifteen amps.

You can choose a single or double-axle unit to determine whether you get the 16,000 BTU or 20,000 BTU furnace. The expandable trailer has modern amenities. There are USB ports for charging, electric jacks, solar-powered prep, roof vents equipped with rain sensors, and an awning spanning fourteen inches. This is easily one of the most helpful travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

2. Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E12S Travel Trailer

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro travel trailer is affordable, easy to use, and offers enough comfort to keep even the fussiest campers happy. This model is lighter than the two Riverside Retro travel trailers that we discussed above, it managed to keep its weight well under the 2,000-pound mark.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro trailers have seven different floor plans. They can accommodate two to four people and vary in length from eleven to twenty-one feet.

The unloaded weight ranges from just over 1,100 pounds to around 3,200 pounds. Only one of the models or variants in this series weighs over three thousand pounds. Due to their inherent lightness, the other six campers in this series should be easy enough to tow for most vehicles.

All floor plans are impressive, not because of the options at your discretion but owing to the clever use of the space which ensures that despite the limited size and weight, you’ll be kept comfortable.

The Flagstaff E-Pro E12S designs are the more spacious varieties, making them ideal for families of four. All four family members can sleep comfortably in these two models, with plenty of room to stretch out. The travel trailers are constructed using an aluminum frame, vacuum laminated walls and roofs, and a fiberglass cap.

It’s very uncommon to find other models within this weight class that feature fiberglass, and it’s one of the features that make these trailers stand out from the rest. However, you will be required to pay slightly more for these trailers, but the build quality and features are worth the expense.

The exterior is pragmatic and, in our opinion, aesthetically pleasing. Complementing the exterior is the slick interior, which cleverly uses the footprint with unique storage spaces, Murphy beds, a Wi-Fi range extender, and décor that feels contemporary.

If you choose to do so, you can purchase additions, too, to enhance your experience. However, you do not have to go for any add-ons or expansions immediately. Instead, you can upgrade and add to your trailer over time or when money becomes available. The seven-floor plans aside, the travel trailers have a recessed cooktop, flush mount cover, outside speaker, tinted bonded frameless windows, 20,000 BTU furnace, and nitro-filled radial tires.

3. Palomino PaloMini Travel Trailer

As the brand’s wordplay would have made evident, the Palomino PaloMini travel trailer is a smaller and lighter version of its heavier and larger cousin. This is not a standard mini trailer when we talk about models under two thousand pounds, but it is one when you consider the luxury trailers made by Palomino.

The Palomino PaloMini travel trailer simplifies camping . It comes with ten different floor plans. The lightest weighs 1,900 pounds, and the heaviest weighs 3.800 pounds. These are dry weights or unloaded thresholds. The trailers can accommodate three to six people depending on their size and floor plan, varying from sixteen to twenty-one feet.

The lightest and hence the most relevant PaloMini is sixteen feet long and it can easily accommodate three people to sleep at night. The dry weight is well under 2,000 pounds, which despite its modest weight and dimensions, the features included are remarkable.

If you need a sleeping capacity for four people, you can go for a slightly heavier variant. Even though you are targeting travel trailers under 2,000 pounds, your towing vehicle may be capable of pulling one that weighs a few hundred pounds more without breaking a sweat. Do the math and choose accordingly. If you are sure you need a travel trailer that weighs less than 2,000 pounds, then the most relevant options are the PaloMini 177BH and the PaloMini 179BHS.

PaloMini travel trailers are sleek and durable. You can quickly load bikes or a toy hauler, depending on your chosen variant. All the variants have standard features, such as a regular fridge, storage space, an air conditioner, cabinets like your home ones, a walkable roof, and a pillow-top memory foam mattress.

Depending on the floor plan, bunk beds are available in some models, but all variants have vacuum-bonded construction. The 13,500 BTU air conditioner mounted on the roof keeps things pleasant. There are several options to choose from if you’d like to upgrade some of the features, which can be added further down the line as the needs arise or once the money to do so becomes available.

4. Forest River R-Pod Travel Trailer

There are as many as eight floor plans to choose from, and the variants’ unloaded weights range from a little over 1,500 pounds to just under 3,000 pounds. Depending on the model chosen and floor plan, two to four people can sleep comfortably.

The length varies between eighteen and nineteen feet. This series is not the lightest, but the variants are within a much smaller range of unloaded weight than the options put forth by other brands. You can effectively stay within 3,000 pounds even if you opt for the longest and most spacious Jayco Hummingbird travel trailer.

Forest River R-Pod RP-107C is your default option if you want to keep things strictly under 2,000 pounds. If you have the luxury to be a little flexible then you can go for Forest River R-Pod RP-171C, it is still relatively light, coming in under 3,000 pounds, but it packs a ton of features and feels large on the inside.

Forest River R-Pod RP-107C travel trailers come with a rear camera, marine-grade exterior speakers, a grill, and a powered awning with LED lighting that can also be used as a tailgate lighting source.

The interior of this travel trailer features a cooktop with a glass cover, which provides extra countertop space if needed. A foldable picnic table allows alfresco dinners, lunches, or breakfasts if the weather is conducive to outdoor dining.

The countertops are spacious enough to prepare even the most complicated meals and the built-in furnace means you’ll remain comfortable as you do so. In addition, the RP-107C has tinted safety glass windows, an outside grill powered by propane and with a quick disconnect port, two gas burners inside, and decorative treatments for the windows with pleated nightshades, all of which make the Jayco Hummingbird travel trailer an excellent environment that make you want to stay on the road for just another week.

5. Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro Travel Trailer

Our list’s last ultra-lightweight travel trailer is a fitting alternative to the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro. The Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro travel trailers are a favorite among lightweight campers. There are seven floor plans—the unloaded weight ranges from over 1,100 pounds to less than 3,200 pounds.

Two to four people can comfortably sleep in a travel trailer between eleven feet and twenty feet long. The Geo Pro is similar to the E-Pro in some ways, boasting similar features, but they differ in many key areas, such as dimensions.

We like the Rockwood Geo Pro 12RK , a great option that comes under our target dry weight of 2,000 pounds. However, if you can push the weight envelope just a bit, consider the Rockwood Geo Pro 14FK, which tops at just a smidgen over 2,000 pounds. That little bit of extra weight does provide different features and room, which might be worth it as long as your towing vehicle can manage the additional load.

Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro travel trailers are lucky enough to have the company’s proprietary Wi-Fi range extender fitted as standard, ensuring uninterrupted snapchats, Instagrams, or whatever else you might be needing wifi for. Additionally, there are outside speakers, a furnace, and a plethora of add-ons or expansions available. The six-sided aluminum cage construction makes this one of the sturdier travel trailers among the lighter variants of most manufacturers.

There is no air conditioner as a standard feature, but you can always go for the upgrade when you buy your trailer or at a later date when you plan an adventure during the summer months. All Geo Pro travel trailers have tinted bonded frameless windows, vacuum laminated walls and roof, magnetic baggage door catches, nitro-filled radial tires, and a combo of Coleman stove and grill.

6. Cricket Camper

This rugged travel trailer is designed mainly for adventure. It can conveniently be towed by most four-cylinder vehicles. In addition, because it’s ultra-light, it goes almost anywhere you decide to drive. The interior includes a room sufficient for two adults and even two kids.

Also, it features four swing windows that allow for the best cross-ventilation. This means you can never have any issues getting sufficient fresh air inside the trailer. While that’s not enough, these windows possess screens and shades that enhance your comfortability. Further, you can access five mesh windows on the side of the tent, not forgetting the panoramic 32-inch by 20-inch picture window.

What about the roof? The roof of this model pops up to offer extra headroom and optimized ventilation to the occupants. There’s a luxurious dining table, plus a roof rack for gear, though this depends on which model of Cricket you pick. By the way, they are a bit costly but worth it.

Other features that are likely to capture your attention include the fact that the trailer can be kept in a normal garage so, there’s no need of you worrying about any additional space to keep it. Moreover, as far as its body is concerned, you’ll find that it’s Kynar-Painted and with UV-rays Treated Aluminum Panels, laser-cut Aluminum top-notch structure, and galvanized steel frame powder-coated. To store clean water, there are two 20-lbs propane tanks and covers.

More features include the 15” Aluminum wheels that have All-terrain tires, Solar Pre-wired, LED Porch Light, USB Charging Ports, 5,000 BTU AC, and a Portable Toilet, not forgetting the Exterior Shower with Cold and Hot Water plus 12 Volts Refrigerator and Freezer (which are optional on Cricket). All these are meant to provide you with a hustle-free adventure.

7. Scamp Travel Trailer

Additionally, they have a 19-foot model, though that one is too heavy for this list. The 13-footer is available as a typical and superior kind or deluxe model. The difference is that the deluxe model comes with a bathroom—a wet bath rather than a separate shower and toilet.

Conversely, the 16-foot Scamp travel trailer has a conventional and a deluxe model. Nonetheless, the exclusive model has more weight than 2000 lbs you want. Therefore, it’s not one of the three-floor plans under this list’s weight limit. The 16-foot Standard adds more counter space and storage.

Most likely, you also fall in love with the fiberglass structure plus the exterior appearance of this travel trailer. Nevertheless, some reviewers feel that the interior is somewhat dated and requires a fresh new and contemporary look. In fact, someone said that the current inside reminds him of his grandmother’s kitchen. He believes that given this day & age technology, the Scamp can and ought to do even better. But, at the same time, their focus demographics might simply be very satisfied with the appearance.

Generally, you don’t need to anymore if you don’t want to hear about setting up the table each morning. This camper has a side dinette that provides room for sleeping and eating without changing a thing.

The model can further be furnished with a bath, which can currently be found on a rooftop AC. Of course, the side bathroom lets the trailer sleep four people, while the generous front bathroom substitutes the sofa/bunk bed. So, this Scamp offers a comfortable place to spend a couple of days or weeks, depending on your choice.

Other beautiful features include the super insulation (R15), 12-volt lighting, 30 amp converter, 12-gallon clean water tank, 2-burner propane stove, and porch light.

8. ProLite Envasion Travel Trailer

The Roulotte’s smallest model is 12ft. and 2-inches and with a weight of 550-lbs dry. On the other hand, their biggest model is 24ft. and 4-inches and comes with a weight of 3,700-lbs dry. In between this range, you’ll find 12 floor-plans with a dry weight less than 2,000-lbs.

Prolite caravans, or campers as people call them in both Canada and several European countries, possess a single-piece shell roof coated with fiberglass. This trailer’s walls are lined with Duro-Foam, famous for its durable thermal resistance and prevention of water infiltration. Furthermore, its floor is 5/8 plywood surfaced with Tekmodo composite boards. When it comes to the exterior, this trailer is pretty aerodynamic. This assists quite a little with the efficiency of the fuel.

It’s important to note that the various specifications and features differ from one model to the other. So, some of the other features you can find in an evasion model include a single-piece roof shell capped with fiberglass, alloy wheels, electric brakes, Front, back, and bunk beds, a 2-burner stove, stainless steel sink, 16,000 BTU heater, water heater, refrigerator, 4-stabilizer jacks, toilet having a shower (wet bath) and an optional A/C not forgetting an exterior shower plus a radio.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that numerous factors may affect your car’s towing ability. You should consult your vehicle manufacturer for the particular towing ability of the vehicle. Doing this will ensure you don’t face problems installing the trailer on your vehicle.

9. Aliner Ascape

Buy an Ascape Aliner trailer for traveling and avoid all the busyness of life while in it. Aliner manufactures two models of campers, with a dry weight of less than 2000 pounds. One is an A-frame camper, and the second is the Ascape. So, in this case, we concentrate, particularly on the Escape.

This trailer is a somehow teardrop-shaped, or at least its front half is. Further, this model is the lightest travel trailer within its class. It’s also the simplest to tow behind any particular vehicle. Factors to Consider When Purchasing Ultra-Lightweight Travel Trailers

Different RVers surely have different needs and preferences, however if you pay attention to the following factors, you will definitely nail one of the best ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds for your money.

You need to pay attention to the size of your trailer because many RV parks and campgrounds have size restrictions.

More importantly, the height, width and length of a particular travel trailer largely influence its handling characteristics on the road, such as turning and stability of the whole unit. In addition, bigger travel trailers tend to add considerable drag which impedes fuel efficiency of the towing vehicles.

In case you only spend short periods of time camping outdoors, feel free to settle for basic facilities. On the other hand, if your trips often last for months, it’s best to ensure that you have everything you will need.

ultra-lightweight travel trailers

The last thing you ever want to experience while camping outdoors is rainwater leaking in through a giant hole in the roof. When shopping for travel trailers, do check the quality of materials, its design and overall durability to have a fair measure of whether a trailer is durable enough for your travel needs.

Nowadays, it’s pretty common to see conflicting reviews regarding a product’s performance. For your peace of mind, it’s rather safe to grab a model from a well-known manufacturer with overall good reviews while browsing different ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

A travel trailer is a considerable investment that requires serious budget-planning. Most of the time, the higher the price tag, the higher the level of comfort.

However, remember that you don’t need to empty your wallet just to get the most expensive model available. Thanks to technological advancements in the industry, nowadays you can find travel trailers with excellent amenities at affordable prices.

That being said, it’s strongly recommended that you avoid dirt-cheap units as they tend to be not as durable.

New Trailers Vs Used Trailers: How To Make The Right Call

So you really like that model but the price for a brand new unit is kind of steep for your pocket?

Fortunately, there is an alternative: look for used travel trailers. Of course, there would be pros and cons.

If you decide to purchase a new trailer, you will be sure onboard facilities are in top condition. In addition, warranty starts the second you buy so you know that you have the support you need while being on the roads.

On the downsides, newly-manufactured units usually have high insurance premiums.

Apart from cheaper purchase prices, insurance for used models are more manageable than that of brand new ones.

However, an important drawback is it’s essentially impossible to tell what might be wrong with such trailers at first inspection. Since the manufacturer’s warranty for these vehicles often has expired at the time of sale, you must pay for repairs as well as future upgrades out of your own pocket.

Traveling On Travel Trailers: Tips For First-Timers

ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds

If you want to get the most out of ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds, consider implementing the following suggestions.

Water pressure varies greatly from place to place so to protect the plumbing of your trailer from potential damages, pick up an RV water pressure regulator . This simple tool will save you money on plumbing repair due to pressure spikes.

Outdoor conditions are unforgiving, thus it’s advised that you buy an RV cover for your trailer before hitting the road to optimize its overall longevity.

If you happen to be a budget-minded RVer, it’s highly likely that you want to cut down expenses by using available household items.

However, remember that it’s pretty tough to bring along everything you need from the house. Therefore, it’s essential to outfit your travel trailer with its own set of necessities.

1. Is there any rating I should know while buying trailers?

A particular travel trailer nowadays would often come along a variety of weight-related ratings. If you want to get suitable ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds then you must inspect the following ratings.

GVWR – Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : the maximum allowable weight of a fully loaded vehicle, including liquids, passengers, cargo and the tongue weight. Both a regular tow vehicle and an RV has its own GVWR.

GAWR – Gross Axle Weight Rating : the maximum distributed weight that may be supported by an axle of a vehicle. For safe operation, the load on any axle of the towing car shouldn’t exceed its GAWR. The label ‘GAWR FR’ means that it is the rating for the front axle, while ‘GAWR RR’ means that it is the rating for the rear axle.

GCWR – Gross Combined Weight Rating: the maximum combined mass of the tow vehicle, the passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle, plus the mass of the trailer, the passengers and cargo in the trailer.

2. So the tires of my travel trailer blow out prematurely. What is going on here?

The tires of your travel trailer might blow out for a variety of reasons. To reduce retail prices, various RV manufacturers use cheap imported tires, which have somewhat mediocre lifespans. Needless to say, such tires don’t last long in use so you should immediately replace the tires of your trailer. Otherwise, most tires would be prone to blow out if RVers fail to inflate them properly before heading out.

3. My trailer keeps swaying on the road. How could I put an end to that?

In most cases, insufficient hitch weight is what makes trailers sway. All you have to do is to make sure the hitch weight is at least equal to 10% of your travel trailer weight.  You have multiple options to increase the hitch weight like placing the heaviest cargo near the front and emptying/filling the water tank.

4. Is it okay to leave my trailer plugged during storage?

Generally, a conventional converter/charger might overcharge the RV batteries and cause permanent damage to them. On the other hand, a smart converter/charger stops charging once the batteries get fully charged.

You should check to see what kind of converter/charger your trailer is using. If your travel trailer incorporates a smart model then you could leave it plugged while in storage In fact, it’s a good idea to keep travel trailers plugged in cold climates to prevent freezing.

5. What is the best time to buy a travel trailer?

Travel trailers are often more affordable at the end of the travel season. If you want to pay less, it’s a good idea to wait until the travel season concludes. Read more here !

The HC1 from Happier Camper is a neat little trailer that shows big things can come in small packages. It’s one of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds where you don’t need to sacrifice comfort for a lighter trailer.

The trailer offers an Adaptiv technology, which gives you tons of options for customizing the interior based on your needs. You pick the components you want—beds, kitchen, bathroom, and storage—and HC1 will assemble the trailer however you design it. That means if you want a more sparse setup for solo trips or a fully loaded family camper, the camper can deliver.

The standard features like the fiberglass floor, large windows, and spacious entry make the HC1 a joy to spend time in. And the ability to sleep up to 5 people shows the manufacturer thought of families even in their most basic design.

  • Dry weight: 1,500 lbs

The Scamp 13′ is one of the best camping trailers under 2000 lbs if your top priority is keeping the weight down. Coming in at just 1,500 pounds, it’s perfect for campers who don’t want to lug around extra bulk.

The crazy thing is, despite the tiny size, this is a camper under 2,000 lbs with bathroom ! You will get the full comfort as the full bathroom has a toilet and shower. It even comes with an outdoor shower attachment.

The flexible dinette converts into a sleeping area when you’re ready to crash for the night. There’s an A/C unit up on the roof, so you’ve got some comfort options when needed. The kitchen is basic with a sink, two burner stove tops, and a little fridge.

The interior decor is nothing fancy, sticking close to the Scamp’s original 1970’s style. As long as you don’t mind a no-frills feel, the easy-to-tow, functional layout of the trailer might be just what you’re after on your next camping adventure.

  • Dry weight: 1,300 lbs

If you want a teardrop trailer under 2000 lbs without sacrificing features, the Bushwhacker 10HD is an excellent choice. It packs a surprising amount of comfort into a tiny footprint.

The interior layout is simple but well designed. The entire interior is taken up by a large bed made from two mattresses that fold out from storage areas underneath. You still get nice touches like a wall air conditioner, furnace with adjustable thermostat, and Bluetooth interior speakers.

Outside, the Bushwhacker delivers plenty of fun camp features. There’s an outdoor kitchen with stove, sink, and cooler so you can cook up meals al fresco. The roof rack, heavy-duty jacks, and all-terrain tires mean this little teardrop is ready to hit the gravel road or tackle light off-roading. It’s undoubtedly one of the best small campers under 2000 lbs.

  • Dry weight: 1,570 lbs

The next entry to our list of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds is the Retro 511. It’s an awesome RV under 2000 lbs that totally rocks the “glamping” scene. How amazing is it that this unit weighs only 1,570 pounds yet still has a closet, ample storage, and an exterior kitchen with a sink, stove, fridge and microwave?

Beyond the smart use of space, Riverside RV also hooked up the Retro 511 with the kinds of amenities you expect in a modern RV, including heat, AC and a freshwater tank.

With a cozy sofa that converts to a bed, this trailer is primed for comfort, even during extended trips. And the side awning helps create a chill outdoor living area, perfect for relaxing with friends after a day of adventures.

The Jayco Hummingbird series offers a lot of livability into a super lightweight package. The 10RK floorplan weighs only 1,570 pounds but still delivers fancy features like marine-grade exterior speakers, LED lighting, and mortise and tenon cabinetry. This trailer is living large!

A bed with a cozy topper can accommodate two comfortably, so it’s perfect for a couple or solo camper. The value package ups the ante even more with a 24″ LED TV, Bluetooth speaker, microwave, and fridge. Talk about feeling right at home, even when you’re on the go. The 10RK can easily be one of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds .

  • Dry weight: 1,310 lbs

Downright tiny but loaded with features, that’s the Taxa Tigermoth in a nutshell. Stoutly built for road less traveled, the unit provides good creature comforts. Inside you’ll find sleeping space for two adults and an optional rooftop tent that expands capacity to five.

The slide-out camp kitchen rocks a two-burner propane stove and sink. There are storage areas that would stump Marie Kondo with their ingenuity. It’s one of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds for adventures in style.

  • Dry weight: 1,630 lbs

Looking for campers less than 2000 lbs ? Go for the Aliner Ascape Plus. This little trailer packs a big punch. At just 1,630 pounds, you can tow the unit with most cars.

There’s a nice-sized bed to relax and sleep at night. The dinette and small table give you someplace to sit and have a meal or catch up on emails.

Most camper trailers under 2000 lbs skip the kitchen, but not this one. You get a stovetop and sink so you can fix yourself a hot meal. An optional toilet adds full self-containment if you want it.

Plus this trailer has some cool extras. The LED lights and built-in solar panels help stretch your battery life. An optional rear awning gives you an outdoor hangout spot. And of course you get heater/AC, so you’ll stay comfortable no matter the weather.

  • Dry weight: 1,763 lbs

The feature-rich Flagstaff E-Pro is one of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds. Its layout feels thoughtfully designed for life on the move. When parked, the built-in couch quickly converts to a comfy queen bed. Interior storage options abound, from cubbies above to larger compartments below for holding all your essentials.

There is a full camp kitchen outside. The sink, stove, fridge, and microwave leave you ready to whip up delicious meals no matter the surroundings. Plus, the unit’s optional 8-foot awning gives you covered outdoor space for lounging with your morning coffee or happy hour drink.

  • Dry weight: 1,800 lbs

The Armadillo is one of the coolest ultra light options out there at just 1,800 pounds. The retro design and colorful shells really make it stand out from the crowd.

You still get plenty of necessities like a kitchen with a stove, sink, and fridge. There’s also a comfy dinette that converts to a bed. So, even in a trailer this small, you can actually sleep up to five people. I love that they offer the triple bunk option up front for families with kids. That’s clever!

What really sold me though was the thoughtful little details. The porthole window in the back is such a charming touch. And with custom exterior colors, you can really make this trailer your own.

  • Dry weight: 1,280 lbs

Weighing in at just 1,280 pounds, the Flyer Chase belies its size with impressively clever design. Out front, the built-in tongue box is perfect for sleeping gear or jet skis. My favorite part though is the 2 inch receiver hitch that can tow a motorcycle along for the ride.

The interior gives a pleasant surprise with a full-size bed, big windows, overhead speakers, and tons of customizable LED lighting. There’s storage galore too, from under-bed cabinets to a wardrobe with multiple hangers.

InTech really thought of every possible option, from air conditioning to an extendable awning that gives you even more space and shade outside. The off-road package with extra lift and upgraded tires means you can take this little powerhouse places where most RVs cannot.

Ultra Lightweight Travel Trailers Under 2000 Pounds

For camping enthusiasts, owning a travel trailer can open up a vast new world of possibilities. The downside? Many of us don’t have access to a vehicle that’s capable of towing such a large load.

Fortunately, RV manufacturers know that most campers prefer to travel light, and have created a niche market in response. If you can’t afford a vehicle upgrade (or just don’t want to buy a new car for this purpose), there are plenty of options available. Take a look at these ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds.

Top Reasons To Invest In A Lightweight Travel Trailer

As we mentioned, small travel trailers are a good investment if you have an SUV or crossover that can’t handle a larger rig. Here are some of the other perks that they offer:

  • Lower cost –As a rule, smaller trailers will cost less up front than bigger RVs, keeping more money in your pocket for the adventures that await.
  • Better fuel economy –The savings don’t end there. Less weight means better gas mileage, so you’ll continue to spend less money even as you hit the road.
  • Less stress on the vehicle –Even if you do have a giant pickup truck with a great tow package, a lighter travel trailer will put less strain on the engine and the vehicle as a whole.
  • Eco-friendly –The less fuel you burn, the more environmentally sound your camping trips will be.

Best Ultra Lightweight Travel Trailers Under 2000 Pounds: Product Review Guide

We were gratified to learn that Jayco has an entry in the ultralight travel trailer race–and even more pleased to find that it just about beats out the competition. If you enjoy boondocking (that is, camping without access to an outside power source), then this could be the unit for you.

The sleeping area offers a full-sized bed with overhead storage. There’s a microwave and fridge in the rear outdoor kitchen area, along with a generously-sized sink. You can opt to purchase an additional grill if you need more cooking space. The Hummingbird 10RK even has a television–a rare commodity in campers this size.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

Like most of the travel trailers listed here, the 10RK sleeps just two people. If you’re in the market for a micro camper, however, you’re not likely to miss the extra bedroom space. The construction is durable, and the large tires keep the unit stable during transit. Best of all, this is an attractive model that’s sure to garner compliments from any fellow campers you happen to meet on the road.

Manufacturers Website

With impressive amenities, a relatively large living area, and a sturdy build, the Rockwood Geo Pro represents one of the best bargains on the market.

Measuring just over 11 feet in length, the unit is easy to tow, even if this is your first time hauling a travel trailer. It also weighs in at just 1252 pounds, meaning that it can be safely towed behind most SUVs and crossovers.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

The interior consists of a full-sized bed with overhead storage, an entertainment center, and a kitchen area with sink, refrigerator, and microwave. Because the unit lacks a toilet, there’s no black water tank, but a gray water tank offers a 6 gallon capacity for any sink runoff. The freshwater tank, meanwhile, offers a generous 20-gallon limit.

A Wi-Fi range extender comes standard with any Rockwood Geo Pro model, making it easier to stay connected. If you so choose, you can also customize the camper with air conditioning, a bike rack, or a lift kit.

If you’ve ever seen a Scamp travel trailer before, you probably remember it. These distinctive white and red campers feature a square design with vaguely rounded edges–and interiors so cozy, they invite you to stay in bed and admire the outdoors through the window.

The versatile interior features a sofa that converts to a pair of bunk beds, along with a rear dining table that can be transformed into a double bed. A sink and double-burner gas stove make up the kitchen area. There’s also a closet that can pull double duty as a pantry.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

If you go for the Deluxe option (the specs of which we’ve included below), you’ll get fiberglass cabinets, wood panel doors, and hardwood accents. The colors are warm and inviting, with plenty of blues and reds to balance out the browns. The Scamp is a visually arresting and well-built unit that’s sure to bring years of enjoyment to any couple or small family .

This unit boasts a great deal of storage space for such a lightweight camper, as well as an innovative interior design. If you’ve been an avowed tent camper up until now, the Falcon FL-14 might just make a believer out of you.

The dinette converts easily into a bed large enough for two, and the kitchen area includes a sink, two-burner range, overhead cabinets, and two separate pantries. There’s even a skylight overhead to open up the space. This unit has a wet bath with shower, but no separate black water tank. The freshwater tank holds an impressive 18 gallons, though, which is enough to allow two people to bathe as long as they’re quick about it.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

While the Falcon FL-14 has plenty going for it even without the decorative touches, we’re huge fans of the skylight and the blue LED accent lighting. This is a model for campers who want to bring a little flair into the great outdoors with them.

The interior of this teardrop-shaped model is as low-key as they come, but the aerodynamic nature of the camper makes up for any shortcomings in the style department. It also hooks up easily, making it a great choice for novices.

Amenities consist of a kitchen area with sink and two-burner range, a bathroom with cassette toilet and shower, and a dinette that converts into a bed large enough to sleep two people. If the space feels too cramped, the floor can be dropped to boost the interior height by a few inches. Because of the high-quality construction, the Aliner Ascape is equal to even the most rugged excursions.

Note that there’s no black water tank included in the setup, so this unit isn’t the best fit for extended boondocking. The fresh water tank holds just 11 gallons, which is enough for cooking and washing up, but not ideal for showering.

For those who thought the Timberleaf Teardrop Classic was cute but just a trifle too large, here comes the Pika to answer your prayers. This unit is 36 percent smaller than the Classic model, making it a cinch to tow–and a blast to live in, however temporarily.

The Pika takes its name from a rabbit-like animal native to the Rocky Mountains. Like its namesake, this trailer is built for adventure, with a low profile that allows it to handle rocky and rugged terrain with ease.

The bed measures slightly smaller than the one found in the Classic, but it’s still large enough to sleep two. We’re big fans of the double side doors, which allow each camper to get in and out without disturbing the other. Another plus is the skylight, a feature that distinguishes the majority of Timberleaf’s offerings. Dual USB ports and LED lighting are also featured. The galley area includes a refrigerator and plenty of storage, but no sink, burner range, or microwave.

Campers who are in the market for a small yet functional travel trailer should enjoy the queen-sized bed that comes standard with the 2017 PaloMini 132FD. Though the unit measures just 16 feet long, it offers the amenities that you would expect from a a larger model.

Located to the rear of the camper, the sleeping area sits adjacent to a wardrobe that can be used instead as a pantry for kitchen supplies, depending on your needs. The kitchen also offers a sink, refrigerator, and two-burner range. A cozy dinette can be converted to a bed that sleeps an additional two people. With no bathroom facilities included, the 19-gallon freshwater tank can go a long way.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

While most of the units listed here are better suited to couples , the PaloMini is an excellent option for families of three to four people. It comes in just under our 2,000 pound limit, but can still be towed comfortably behind most medium- to heavy-duty pickup trucks.

Because it makes the most out of a tiny footprint, the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro is a strong contender for the top spot on our list. Measuring just over 11 feet in length with a dry weight of 1,164 pounds, it’s a micro camper with style and class to spare.

Enter through one of two side doors and make yourself comfortable on the full-sized bed, which takes up the bulk of the interior. An entertainment center and two separate overhead storage areas add comfort and convenience to the space.

travel trailers under 2 000 lb

Outside, the galley area features a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and additional storage. Counter space is minimal, but it’s enough for a single person to get the chopping and mixing chores out of the way. Since this rig is so simple to maneuver, you won’t have to waste precious time searching for a campsite. We would highly recommend the E-Pro to couples who enjoy camping but are ready to stop sleeping on the ground.

In Conclusion

Now you know–travel trailers don’t have to weigh a literal ton. There are many lightweight options to choose from, some more well-appointed than others.

As we indicated, our favorite trailer on this list is the Jayco Hummingbird 10RK, with the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro coming in at a close second. Which one you choose depends upon whether it’s luxury that you seek, or a few basic kitchen facilities and a dry place to rest your head at night.

Good luck, and happy camping!

The Scamp features a weather-resistant all fiberglass design with multiple well-designed floor plans.

Scamp Travel Trailer

  • Number of floor plans under 2,000 pounds: 3
  • Unloaded / Dry Weight: 1,500 – 2,000 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: 1-4
  • Length: 13′ and 16′

The Scamp is a nice little camper. It’s available in 2 lengths (13-feet and 16-feet) with floor plans having an unloaded weight of less than than 2000 pounds. Scamp also offers a 19-foot model but that one is too heavy for our list of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

The 13-foot Scamp comes as a standard model and a deluxe model. The difference is the Deluxe has a bathroom. This is a wet bath instead of a separate toilet and shower.

The 16-foot Scamp also has a Standard and a Deluxe model. However, the Scamp Deluxe model weighs more than 2000 pounds, so it’s not one of the three floor plans under our weight limit. The 16-foot Standard adds more counter space and storage.

  • Fiberglass construction
  • Super insulation (R15)
  • 12-volt lighting
  • 30 amp converter
  • 12-gallon freshwater tank
  • Table converts to a bed
  • Two burner propane stove

I like the fiberglass body and the exterior look of this camper. However, I feel the inside is dated and needs a fresh new modern look. The current interior reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen. Scamp can and should do better. At the same time, their target demographics might just be quite comfortable with the look.

Each model has slightly different features so make sure to check their website.

InTech RV Luna lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds

  • Length: 15’6″

When I started researching the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds, I was not going to include any full teardrop trailers. However, after seeing the InTech Luna, I changed my mind.

What drew me to this lightweight teardrop is the front profile. The front of the Luna is not designed like your typical teardrop travel trailer. Instead of the sloping teardrop profile, you have this massive panoramic window that looks amazing.

Notable Features:

  • All aluminum frame
  • Triple tube A-frame
  • 7-way trailer plug
  • Nitro-filled tires with aluminum wheels
  • Underframe mounted spare tire
  • Front storage cabinets
  • Rear entertainment center
  • Under-floor storage compartments (2)
  • 8,000 BTU A/C unit

The Luna comes with one of the best-looking outdoor kitchens I’ve seen on any ultralight travel trailer. It has a three-burner grill, stainless steel sink, 12V fridge, and microwave. Plus, you’ll find stereo speakers and white aluminum walls.

Summary: ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds.

Many of us don’t want to buy a full-size tow vehicle to pull a small travel trailer. If we did, these travel trailers under 4,000 pounds are a better choice.

The ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2000 pounds shown here are all capable campers. Similar to our Top 10 Best Small Camping Trailers , they can be towed with light truck, but even a car or a properly equipped mid-size SUV can tow any of them.

The lightweight campers listed here are rated at dry weight or unloaded. Once you add what you will be taking, groceries, propane, water, etc., the gross weight increases in many instances above 2,000 lbs.

Read RV towing guides to confirm how much you can safely tow with your existing vehicle. Also, speak to the RV dealer to confirm how much you can safely load on your travel trailer.

The Kestrel travel trailer under 2,000 pounds

Boasting an ultra-lightweight design, the Kestrel model from Timberleaf Trailers demonstrates a minimalist aesthetic combined with comfort and quality, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a simple camping experience. With its total weight of just 860 pounds and frame measuring 54 by 90 inches, this trailer is ideally suited for travelers who prefer to stay agile on their journeys without need to compromise on essentials.

The Kestrel’s construction inherits much of its design from predecessor models Pika and Classic. It features a fully welded and powder-coated steel frame along with enamel baked aluminum sides which ensures robustness alongside lightness. Additional specifications include a 2,000 pound torsion axle and a standard 2” ball coupler.

One thing we really like about the Kestrel is the amount of available customization depending on individual travel styles and needs. And despite being one of the most minimalist designs in Timberleaf’s lineup, it still provides an affordable luxury camping experience.

It also comes with two fold-out beds to give you additional options if you’re camping with a larger group. In our opinion, this model is best suited for camping in pleasant weather conditions due to its design and features.

The kitchen amenities found in the 1706XLS are great, especially considering its size. The small kitchen includes a high-output range with two burners that make it easy to prepare meals outdoors. They are designed as a typical model and a superior expandable deluxe model that comes with a toilet and shower.

The trailer has a really creative fiberglass structure but many consider the interior of the camper as a little outdated. The features of the trailer are sufficient for any traveling that you require but the interior may need to be updated a little bit to suit your needs.

The trailer has many useful features such as side dinettes, which means that you don’t need to worry about setting the table up each morning. You can also buy add-ons like a bath and rooftop AC for the trailer. Nonetheless, the deluxe model does have a side bathroom that fits right in. Other helpful features include 12-volts lighting , 30amp converter, super insulation, a clean water tank for 12 gallons, porch light, and a 2-burner propane stove.

9.  Roulotte Prolite

Roulotte Prolite Camper

Roulotte ProLite  Camping trailers are really great options for people who want an ultra-light design for their camper. They are made with the highest quality of materials that ensure that the camper is light enough to act as a fifth wheel for the car. They provide an ideal driving experience in urban and rural areas, so you won’t have an issue exploring with this camper. The camper is an aerodynamic model that economizes fuel costs as well.

The smallest model by Roulette is 11 feet and 10 inches. It weighs a mere 550 lbs in dry weight, which puts almost no burden on the car you are driving. The roof is coated with fiberglass and the walls are lined with Duro-foam. These materials ensure that there is no water infiltration and the camper is durable. The features and specification differ from model to model. The lightest model has a 2 burner stove, shower, toilet, optional AC, radio, water heater, heater, refrigerator, bunk beds, and jacks.

10.  Armadillo Trailers

Armadillo Camper

The Armadillo Trailers  come in 13.5 feet and are all ultra-light models. They specialize in beautiful looking trailers that are completely packed with amazing features. There are five plans that you can use that look great. The frame is made with box steel of the best grade. The body is made with two-piece fiberglass shells which make it a really durable option.

The front wheels have a rock guard shield, which protects the trailer. The heavy insulation protects you from any extreme cold temperatures and the heat transfer reduction technology keeps the trailer cool during summers. The interior is designed with radius corners so that there are no sharp corners to fear. The storage spaces are also plentiful, so you won’t have to worry about keeping your belongings in place.

The interior is also customizable, so you can pick and choose according to your preferences. There are six laminates, two kinds of vinyl and two fabrics that you can use from. The sun view windows on the sides, screen at the entry door, and porthole window view at the rear are perfect for ventilation. Even the roof has an air ventilation system so that you don’t feel hot at all. The plywood floor is beautiful and the wall paneling is washable. There are also other amenities like fridge, stove, furnaces , porch light, and more.

These trailers under 2,000 pounds can be really great if you are fond of traveling and exploring the world around you. It is a good option to read more about what fellow campers have to say about these models so that you can make up your mind after listening to informed opinions. These trailers are designed to have a low vehicle weight, which means that they may not have features that premium campers do like outdoor kitchens , airstream, r-pods or power awnings.

Nevertheless, all of the models listed above were designed by reputable companies. The craftsmanship of all these trailers is very precise and ensures that you won’t end up with an unpleasant experience.
