Travel Inspired Jewelry Guide: Travel Themed Jewelry for Travelers

Last updated: December 12, 2023 - Written by Jessica Norah 97 Comments

If you love travel and jewelry you’re probably going to love this guide to jewelry for travelers! We focus primarily on handmade and unique travel jewelry, and cover jewelry that will suit any budget and style.

I fell in love with travel themed jewelry while searching for travel themed wedding rings for Laurence and I’s wedding. I have since acquired more travel jewelry pieces and love using jewelry as a way of expressing my passion for travel.

We’ve put together a list of a wide range of travel jewelry items in this article for those looking for a way to express their own love for travel, searching for a gift for a traveler, or just looking for inspiration about what types of travel themed jewelry are out there.

Our list contains dozens of items that span the range of jewelry types, budgets, and fashion tastes. Although many of the jewelry pieces are designed with women in mind, we’ve also included a number of unisex and men’s jewelry pieces.

We have physically reviewed many of these items and hope you enjoy this list of wonderful travel themed jewelry items and perhaps you’ll discover your new favorite pieces of jewelry along the way!

Table of Contents:

Travel Inspired Jewelry: Best Jewelry for Travelers

As I said, I got a bit obsessed with travel inspired jewelry when searching for a design for our engagement/wedding rings (we purchased a customized version of these World Map rings ). After planning our wedding, I wrote a post on handmade travel themed wedding products , which included a few travel themed jewelry items. I wanted to expand on that to write a full article focused solely on travel jewelry, so here we go!

Just so you know, many of the items on this list we physically reviewed. Some were items we purchased or received as gifts, and others were given to us by artists for review. The other pieces are just ones I loved when searching for travel related jewelry online.

The majority of the items on our list are handmade or hand customized items, made by a single artist, family, or a small business. We love supporting these great individual artists and small businesses, and many of the jewelry pieces featured were inspired by the wanderlust and travels of the artists’ themselves!

But we have also included jewelry from national and international fine jewelry stores as well to provide a range of jewelry options. Prices of pieces on the list range from under $10 to over $500, with the vast majority of jewelry falling in the $25 to $75 range.

If you are looking for a traveler gift idea, but don’t find it here, consider checking out our guide to gifts for travelers . It has over 75 gift suggestions that range across budgets and traveler types.

We also have a guide to gifts for travelers made in the USA and British made gift ideas for travelers , if you are looking for items specifically made in the USA or the United Kingdom. Both guides include several travel-inspired jewelry suggestions.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about any of these items included. We hope that this list helps inspire you to show your wanderlust in your own jewelry collection!

Great guide to so much travel themed jewelry, who knew there were so many options! I am wondering if you have any suggestions for anklets for a trendy young woman who loves to travel?

November 25, 2019 at 4:20 am

I would suggest something fairly simply like a nice chain with a compass, compass rose, globe, or airplane charm. For an anklet, especially if gifting, I’d recommend something made of either a fairly strong metal that doesn’t tarnish easily or a strong cord material as anklets can get a lot of wear and tear and are often more exposed to dirt/moisture than other types of jewelry. You can explore some options on Etsy here .

Hope that helps! Jessica

I like how comprehensive this guide is because it enumerated the perfect jewelry for each type of travel. Since my best friend is a big fan of jewelry and traveler herself, she wanted to buy additional pieces for her growing collection. I think I need to share this list with her so that she can check what type of jewelry will she be buying to help her save time and resources.

I really like that compass watch.

October 14, 2016 at 3:02 pm

Hi Richard, Yes, Laurence really loves the compass watch and has been wearing it everyday! The only downside is that it is difficult to tell the exact time as it just had the compass directions for 12, 3, 6, and 9, but the in between hours/minutes can be a bit trickier. But Laurence still loves wearing it. If you want a watch for both a cool accessory and to tell exact time, I would choose one of Carmen’s designs with numbers. You can also message Carmen as she may be able to do a compass design with numbers or have other suggestions; she is always adding new designs. ~ Jessica

I love the stuff you picked so much! This jewelry is a lot of fun, I am actually wearing a silver cuff with a map of the New York City subway system right now and I think I get more questions and compliments about it from strangers on the streetcar or at the grocery store than with anything else I ever wear. Travel jewelry is a great conversation starter.

October 14, 2016 at 11:35 am

Hi Marty – Yes, it is! Laurence has been wearing a few pieces as have I during our recent 6 weeks of travels and people often comment. A NYC subway map bracelet is a great idea as well – I think Doreen at Decemeber Moon Designs makes those on Etsy! Jessica

Sort of makes me want to be from Texas:) The wristlet is something totally new to me – that is a great idea!

6 Best Travel Jewelry Ideas to Feed Your Wanderlust

Best travel themed jewelry

Table of Contents

1. passports, 2. the world map, 3. globe jewelry, 4. compass jewelry, 5. forms of transport, 6. travel quote jewelry, travel jewelry vs. travel themed jewelry, wrapping up.

For most people, travel is one of their greatest passions, representing not just a hobby but an obsession. Travel frees the soul and expands your horizons. And what better way to show this love than by travel themed jewelry!

There are many types of travel themed jewelry out there, from charms to earrings, pendants and necklaces. In this article, let’s take a look at some of the main travel jewelry symbols and styles. You’re going to fall in love with all of them!

Passport earrings

The one thing that all travelers have in common – a passport. Not only is a passport your key to the world but it identifies you and reminds you of your roots. No other item is as important as a passport, as anyone who’s had their bag stolen or lost while travelling abroad can attest to.

Passport replicas are best as little charms to be attached to a charm bracelet, or worn as dangle or stud earrings, or a pendant. It’s a quirky little design for jewelry and is bound to garner you some comments. Wearing a ‘passport’ is for the diehard traveler who’s obsessed with going places.

World map globe gold pendant

Another highly popular choice, the world map or globe is an obvious option. Unlike jewelry featuring the map of a certain country or state, which leans towards patriotism, a world map features your love for travel, exploration, and seeing new things.

Typically, world map jewelry is perfect on pendants, as they remain in place and are easy to see. However, there are some very creative design ideas like the ring above, which feature the world map in a unique way. While not immediately obvious, once it catches your eye, you can’t really look away.

Globe pendant

Technically a world map, globes offer different design options due to their 3D spherical shape. Most jewelry featuring globes are pendants, as that’s the most functional. However, they’re also perfect for dangle earrings because of their proportional shape.

With globes, a little goes a long way, so it’s best to opt for a smaller sphere as these are stylish and classy, rather than a large one that sits awkwardly against your chest or dangles that look like they came straight out of a geography class. Unless that’s the look you’re going for, in which case, rock on we say!

Brass bracelet with compass knot

Compass jewelry is one of our favorite type of travel-themed jewelry. A compass speaks about more than just a love for travel, it also symbolizes adventure , finding your way, independence and confidence.

Compasses always point north, regardless of the conditions. This is can be interpreted as representing positivity and hope. All these are excellent characteristics of an avid traveler.

boat enamel earrings

Forms of transport make up a significant aspect of traveling – from motorbikes in Vietnam, to tuktuks in India and gondolas in Venice. As Jack Sparrow says in Pirates of the Caribbean , ‘What a (ship) really represents is freedom ’. And this can be applied to any form of transport.

Transport charms are the best way to add this concept to your jewelry and are perfect in charm bracelets. However, you’ll also sometimes come across cute designs like the ring featured above with an airplane incorporated into the design.

Travel quote pendant

Travel jewelry with a favorite quote on it is a nice touch to bring your love of travel into your fashion choices. Here are some ideas for meaningful travel quotes and words to inspire your wanderlust:

  • Not all who wander are lost
  • To travel is to live
  • Veni, vidi, amavi – I came, I saw, I loved
  • The adventure begins
  • Enjoy the journey
  • Wherever you go, go with all your heart – Confucius
  • Wherever you stand, be the soul of that place – Rumi
  • I go to seek a great perhaps
  • I do believe it’s time for another adventure
  • Follow your heart
  • The world is yours… explore it!

You can also come up with your own quote and ask to have it engraved onto your chosen jewelry. Many jewelry designers offer custom services and these are often affordable.

Girl traveling

In this post, we’ve talked about travel themed jewelry but there’s such a thing as travel jewelry too. Travel jewelry refers to jewelry that’s specifically created for those who travel a lot. If you’re feeling confused right now, don’t worry. This is a new concept and a very tiny niche that’s only really becoming a thing.

For those who travel a lot and don’t want to take their valuables with them, travel jewelry designers create specific jewelry for people who want to dress beautifully while traveling, without the fear of losing their best jewelry pieces. These are more affordable pieces that you won’t mind losing.

So there you have it, our top tips on travel themed jewelry.  There are so many options out there, but we only picked the categories, so that you can pick the jewelry.

If you’re looking to browse, we recommend searching on Etsy or Amazon for some amazing, unique and handmade travel themed jewelry. These come in a range of prices and styles to suit everyone, so we’re sure you’ll find something you love on these platforms.

I love that this is a more abstract ring and is especially nice for those who don’t want the theming of their jewelry to be too overt! I love that it comes in a variety of styles!  It is handmade based on the iconic meandering course of the River Thames in London. The ring is in two pieces representing the two sides of the river, and the cut line represents the Thames. The ring can be customized to chose whatever length of the river you would like to represent and if the Thames isn’t for you other rivers can be picked!

This is one of the few pieces of jewelry that my husband owns and wears ! Traditionally these necklaces are bought for loved ones before a long journey to keep them safe on their travels! WANDERLUST FASHION: HOW TO STYLE TRAVEL-THEMED JEWELLERY FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

WANDERLUST FASHION: HOW TO STYLE TRAVEL-THEMED JEWELLERY FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

  • by Christina Miller
  • July 17, 2023

For those of us who have been bitten by the wanderlust bug, travelling is a huge part of our lives. At  Off the Map , we make travel-themed jewellery for travel enthusiasts, adventures and wanderers.

We custom-make and personalise almost all of our travel jewellery and each piece is infused with energy for safe travels, luck and a safe passage home. Whether you are a man or a woman, a backpacker or a business frequent flyer, you can benefit from adorning yourself in travel-themed jewellery on your next trip.

St. Christopher pendants, compass necklaces, coordinate rings and runes are just a few of the different ways you can choose to wear  travel-themed jewellery from our store . Each piece makes the perfect companion for your adventurous spirit and allows you to carry the essence of travel and exploration everywhere you go (even after you return home!).

In this post, we are exploring different ways you can style Off the Map’s travel-themed jewellery. Add a touch of wanderlust to your look!

travel themed jewellery

1. Choose your travel-style theme

Wanderlust jewellery usually centres around a theme such as St. Christophers, globes, compasses, passports, famous landmarks and so on. When it comes to deciding on your personal travel jewellery style, decide on a theme or aesthetic that resonates the most with you and start with one thing.

At Off the Map, we have several themes that can suit different personal styles and tastes. Our most popular themes are  St. Christopher Pendants  and  Compass Pendants  which come in a variety of styles and metals.

We also have  travel-themed runes ,  coordinate signet rings ,  travel symbol   charm bracelets and leather bracelets.

Choose your theme based on your personal style and what resonates with your travel experiences and background.

travel themed jewellery

2. Layer & stack up

One of the best ways to style travel-themed jewellery is to layer and stack pieces to create an eye-catching wanderlust style.

This is also a great way to include many different meaningful pieces in one look! We love  layering necklaces  with chains of different lengths and materials. Some silver and some leather.

Bracelets  also work really well when they are stacked. Our leather bracelets come in a range of colours and styles with different choices of charms to attach.

travel jewellery

Stacking rings is also another way to make a statement with your travel-jewellery style. Our delicate silver bands make the perfect rings for stacking for men and women! We have  personalised coordinates ,  Roman numerals  and  rune bands . Imagine all of the significance you could place on one finger!

travel themed jewellery

3. Get personalised coordinates engraved on your jewellery

Personalised coordinates on jewellery  are a special way to add a unique and very sentimental touch to your wanderlust accessories. Whether you want to remember the coordinates or your home, your favourite place in the world or a special location where you met someone you love.

Co-ordinate jewellery  is a beautiful nod to a place that is special to you.

At Off the Map, we have so many styles of pendants, keyrings and rings which you can have your choice of longitude and latitude engraved on.

travel themed jewellery

4. Mix and match metals & materials

There is no rule that you must only wear silver or gold! A really interesting way to style travel-themed jewellery is to mix up the metals and the materials your jewellery is made of. Perhaps opt for a gold-plated compass pendant layered with a silver globe pendant with a leather chain.

The options are endless when it comes to mixing and matching metals and other materials and will make your accessories pop.

At Off the Map, w e have a range of metals . Our most popular is solid sterling silver but we also have  black steel , solid yellow gold, and solid rose gold along with  plated yellow and rose gold pieces . We also have leather and vegan leather bracelets and chains. Some of our jewellery is also made out of  recycled silver  for a more conscious choice.

travel jewellery

5. Pick up jewellery as souvenirs when you travel

Choosing travel accessories to take with you on your trip when you are at home is just part of the story. No matter what destination you choose, once you are there you will be able to pick up jewellery and accessories that are special to the region.

Whether it is an anklet made out of shells in Bali, an Ankh pendant from Egypt or a crystal mala bead necklace from India or beaded earrings from Mexico, every place will have something special that you integrate into your style.

If you don’t have much of a budget to splurge on travel-themed jewellery souvenirs you could decide to collect woven bracelets everywhere you go and add each on to your wrist when you are travelling as a reminder of where you’ve been. These bracelets can be found everywhere in the world and they are very affordable. If this look doesn’t fit in with your style, you can just keep them somewhere safe as a reminder of your adventures.

travel jewellery

Make sure you take the time to pick up some special jewellery souveniers. Not only are they small and easy to fit in your luggage, but many places around the world also have high-quality jewellery for great prices. These are precious pieces that mean something to you, which you will keep for a lifetime as a reminder of your travels.

Weave your wanderlust into your everyday life with travel-inspired jewellery as a reminder of where you’ve been, where you’ve come from and where you want to go.

The 9 Best Travel Jewelry Cases of 2024, Tested and Reviewed

Keep your jewelry safe with one of these protective and stylish travel cases.

Our Testing Process

  • Tips for Buying
  • Why Trust T+L

Traveling with jewelry can be risky business, so it’s important to pack your accessories thoughtfully. Sure, you can always use Ziploc baggies and tissue paper, but the easiest and safest way to keep your jewelry safe is by using a handy travel-size jewelry case.

Since travel jewelry cases come in all different shapes and sizes, we tried 25 options from trusted luggage and jewelry brands. After loading the cases up with jewelry, we tossed, dropped, and shook them to see how safe the jewelry would be in situations like traveling where rough handling can be expected. From testing, we selected the winning jewelry cases that will keep your jewelry safe and organized whether you’re a jewelry minimalist or maximalist.

Best Overall: Cuyana Travel Jewelry Case

Best budget: bagsmart jewelry organizer bag.

  • Best Roll-Up: Bagsmart Peri Folding Jewelry Organizer

Best Personalization: Mark & Graham Small Travel Jewelry Case

Best large capacity: kendra scott medium travel jewelry case, best for long trips: calpak jewelry case, best compact: vee & co. small travel jewelry case.

  • Best for Everyday Use: Levenger Mini Jewelry Organizer

Best Sustainable: Paravel Jewelry Case

The small, oval container is the perfect size for a weekend getaway.

It could use a few more organizational features.

Cuyana’s oval-shaped case is deceptively spacious in comparison to its smaller design. Perfect for minimalist jewelry wearers, the interior has plenty of room and designated spots for several rings and earrings, but there aren’t specific latches for necklaces or bracelets. The two slip pockets on each side of the case can hold bigger or longer pieces of jewelry, but they run the risk of getting tangled without a latch so we wish the organization was a bit better. Made with genuine leather, the case has a protective exterior with a soft suede interior to further guard the jewelry against scratching or other damage. Throughout six months of tests, we loved this case for weekend getaways and longer trips alike and found it to be the perfect size to toss in a backpack or personal item.

The Details: Italian leather | 5 in. x 3.5 x 1.25 inches

Travel + Leisure / Joy Kim

The bag is spacious yet compact and comes with a handle to carry it easily.

The quality feels a bit lower than other cases we tried.

Designed similarly to a toiletry bag, we love that this wallet-friendly jewelry case comes with a top handle to transport it to and from a suitcase with ease. The compact bag is also a great deal considering how much jewelry it can hold while still being easy to pack. The polyester material is protective and flexible so the bag can pack down to a smaller size depending on how much jewelry is inside. The interior has an earring panel, ring bands, necklace clips, and various zippered pockets for storing all of the jewelry you want to pack for a trip. While we didn’t notice any issues with quality during testing, the materials feel less durable than other pricier cases we tried. We tossed the packed jewelry case around a bit during our tests and the items remained perfectly safe without any tangling or damage. Even after traveling with the case on seven flights, trains, and throughout more than four roadtrips during our six months of tests, nothing became tangled and the case is proving to be durable and sturdy.

The Details: Polyester | 6.1 x 9.8 x 1.9 inches

Travel + Leisure / Jhett Thompson

Best Roll-up: Bagsmart Peri Folding Jewelry Organizer

The compartments roll out, which makes it easier to pack jewelry.

It was slightly difficult to put the earrings on the designated card.

Bagsmart impressed us a second time with their roll-up jewelry organizer, which was the easiest bag to pack with jewelry during testing. After six months of use, we love that it can fit a lot of jewelry and has compartments big enough for even the biggest hoops and other dramatic earrings. The envelope-style case unrolls and lies flat so you can easily see all of the pockets, latches, and hooks for storing every piece of jewelry you could ever need for traveling thanks to the larger capacity. We had some slight difficulty getting earrings into the holes in the earring card, but it was just a minor inconvenience, and there are plenty of other spots to place hoops and studs. Made with cotton fabric, the case may feel a bit flimsy, but is soft and protective, and it’s very compact since it can lie fairly flat even after it’s packed with jewelry.

The Details: Cotton | 9.06 x 6.3 x 5.75 inches

Mark & Graham

It comes in 28 color and pattern options — plus it's monogrammable.

After six months of using the case, we wish it had more space for necklaces, bracelets, and larger earrings.

Looking for the perfect gift for a traveler? You can monogram this Mark & Graham jewelry case with up to three letters for a personalized touch that makes the gift all the more thoughtful. The square-shaped case has a sturdy exterior that feels like it will hold up perfectly in a packed carry-on and the pebbled vegan leather gives the box a sophisticated look while sitting on a desk or dresser. The interior is split into two sections with a mirror divider to separate the box, which makes it slightly difficult to fit larger jewelry pieces like a watch or chunky necklace, but after six months of testing, we did like that the separate sections help you access all your items without spilling everything out. We also love that there are tons of ring pillow slots so if you’re a big ring wearer, this jewelry case is an excellent option. In addition, there are several necklace or earring latches as well as a slip pocket and sections for bracelets or broaches.

The Details: Vegan leather, linen | 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.25 inches

Kendra Scott

The large size of this jewelry box makes it useful for heavy packers or at-home use.

It doesn’t have any necklace hooks.

Jewelry maximalists will appreciate the bigger size of Kendra Scott’s jewelry case. It looks like a traditional jewelry box that sits on a dresser, but it’s also very portable thanks to its lightweight materials and design. The interior has four large compartments to easily drop in bracelets, necklaces, or watches without any hassle and there are over 10 ring pillow slots for rings or earrings. To keep all the packed jewelry safe, the case comes with a divider to prevent items from jostling around on the go. The case also comes with a small matching zippered pouch that you can keep in the box or remove for extra storage. We found this separate pouch to be perfect for use on shorter trips when you may not need to bring the full case. While we wish the box had a few more organizational features like necklace hooks or earring holes, the jewelry remained perfectly intact after we shook it around, so we’re confident that the box keeps items safely tucked away. Plus, after six months of use, the stylish case still looks new and is a great option for home storage, too.

The Details: Polyurethane, polyester | 8 x 5.5 x 2.5 inches

After six months of traveling with this case, not one necklace became tangled thanks to the plentiful hooks.

We wish it had more storage options for studs.

If you’re embarking on an international trip that includes a checked bag, we recommend this jewelry case from Calpak to weather the journey. Since the rectangular jewelry case is bigger, it can easily store enough jewelry for several weeks of traveling. The structured design makes it ultra-durable and our favorite part is that it has a built-in drawstring bag that does an excellent job of keeping bracelets, watches, or earrings safely secured in the bottom section of the jewelry case. The top part has a variety of necklace latches and a ring holder for even more security. When we rigorously shook the container, none of the jewelry budged from its original spots, so we feel confident that this case will protect your valuables in a checked bag with no issues.

The Details: Faux leather, faux suede | 7 x 5 x 2.5 inches

The square-shaped box is small enough to easily fit in a carry-on or backpack.

The jewelry might scratch up the mirror on the divider.

The lower price and superior functionality make this petite jewelry case an excellent option for anyone looking for a place to store their accessories. It’s smaller than a lot of the options we tested, so we think it’s ideal for travelers needing to save space in a backpack or suitcase. Despite its compact stature, this jewelry box can fit tons of jewelry from studs to a leather watch. It’s intuitive to pack the case with rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and more since there are designated latches, slots, and compartments for virtually everything. When we shook the case, all of the jewelry remained packed away in its original spot without any damage occurring. The box has a divider with a mirror on one side and our only worry is that the mirror could get scratched by the metals or vice-versa, so you may want to put a small piece of fabric between the mirror just in case.

The Details: PU vegan leather | 3.94 x 3.94 x 1.97 inches

Best for Everyday Use: Levenger Carrie Mini Jewelry Organizer

The small design makes it easy to store the case in a purse.

It can’t fit large jewelry pieces.

Jewelry minimalists will love this tiny jewelry case for keeping track of just a few pieces of jewelry while on the go. After six months of use, we love that this Levenger mini jewelry case has latches, hooks, and pockets to protect and organize rings, bracelets, and necklaces. It is on the small side with minimum space for studs, but light packers will appreciate the hard, durable exterior that still looks new after six months. The genuine leather exterior and suede interior feels luxurious and looks elegant, so this also makes a great jewelry case for newlyweds going on a honeymoon . We especially love the tiny zippered pocket in the middle of the case for storing extra small jewelry items like studs or stacking rings.

The Details: Leather, microsuede | 4.25  x 4.5 x 1 inches

All of the materials used to make this case are recycled.

The organizational features could be better and, after six months of use, we think it's a bit too large to pack in a carry-on.

Paravel is one of our favorite luggage brands , so we’re pleased to report that its jewelry case impressed us, too. The circular case is made entirely of recycled materials from post-consumer plastic water bottles and upcycled zippers to create an eco-friendly accessory for travel. Besides the sustainability factor, the case comes with a large drawstring pouch that makes it easy to drop in larger pieces of jewelry like bracelets or watches. The top flap of the case has a ring holder and earring post to store smaller pieces of jewelry, but we wish there were a few more organization features like necklace latches or zippered pockets. However, we love the vintage-style design and, like most Paravel bags, you can monogram the case with initials for a special touch.

Other Travel Jewelry Cases We Liked

The jewelry cases below get an honorable mention since they still performed well in testing, but fell slightly short compared to our top performers.

Benevolence Plush Velvet Travel Jewelry Box Organizer : This jewelry box can fit a ton of items, but you’ll want to make sure everything is secure before traveling since we noticed most of the jewelry became dislodged during testing.

Mejuri Travel Case : The case looks elegant and sleek on the outside, but the interior doesn’t offer much in the organizational department, so it’s best for minimalist travelers.

After thoroughly researching jewelry cases from trusted brands, we selected 25 options to first test out in our New York City lab. We packed each case with every type of jewelry you can think of, including rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, watches, and more to get a feel for the usefulness of the organization features. Then, we tossed, dropped, and shook the cases (think Kourtney Kardashian level of salad bowl shaking) to see if the jewelry remained safely secured in place or if the pieces moved around. We also examined the cases for any scuffing or damage.

With our lab testing portion complete, we then rated the jewelry cases based on ease of use, capacity, design, and quality to determine the winners. We continued to test the jewelry cases for an additional six months so we could see how each one performed while traveling in a more natural setting after the lab testing, and then added those insights.

Tips for Buying a Jewelry Case

Buy the right size case for your needs.

First, you’ll want to think about how much jewelry you travel with to determine the best size for your needs. For those who travel with bigger pieces of jewelry like watches or chunky necklaces, consider getting a more structured case with large compartments. Delicate or minimalist jewelry will pack better in an envelope or binder style of jewelry case. And if your jewelry collection consists of just a few pieces, opt for a mini jewelry case to save space in your luggage.

Consider organization

Most jewelry cases come with latches, hooks, pockets, and pillows to hold pretty much any piece of jewelry you can think of. Like other types of travel organizers , some jewelry cases are more barebones than others, so you’ll want to buy a case according to your organization preferences or based on the type of jewelry you travel most with. If most of your jewelry consists of earrings, be sure to get a box that has pockets and hole cards with spots for hoops, studs, and dangling earrings.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best way to keep your jewelry safe and organized is to use a jewelry case. The best thing about travel jewelry cases is that they often come with designated slots for all types of accessories to make packing intuitive and quick. If you want to add an extra layer of protection, you can always place tissue or fabric between your jewelry to prevent the pieces from rubbing against one another in transit.

Once your jewelry is packed into the case, we recommend placing the jewelry case between soft clothing for safekeeping or in a personal item in case you have to gate-check your bag when flying. It can be risky to place a jewelry case in a checked bag since you may run the risk of the bag getting lost, but it depends on your comfort level for flying with potentially valuable items.

30 ways to travel with jewelry and keep it all organized.

' src=

Traveling with jewelry is a nice way to stay stylish while traveling and accessorize your look without bringing dozens of outfits. But how do you keep it all organized without opening your bag to find a big, tangled mess?

We’ve scoured the Internet for the best hacks for traveling with jewelry and some offbeat ways to travel with necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets. Best of all, most of these don’t require you to buy anything, as a number can be found around your house.

Ways to Keep Your Jewelry Organized in Luggage

Mint tins for rings and earrings

1. Mint tin: Save those Altoids or Tic Tacs containers after you are done with them! They make for a great container for jewelry, especially when you add a cotton ball to protect them.

2. Hard sided jewelry cases: While they take up more room, cases like Caracaise, which looks like a briefcase with foam cushioning, and smaller versions with compartments for earrings, fully protect your items. Something like this on Amazon would work.

3. Drawstring jewelry cases: Another type of jewelry case is the pouch, which you can buy or make yourself . This allows you to place all of your items on a circular piece of fabric that has strings that pull it into a pouch. It’s better suited for everything but necklaces.

4. O-Rings: Metal ring clips that are used for crafts and school projects can also be used for rings, bracelets and necklaces. Simply open it, slip them on, and pack! See these on Amazon .

Use straws to keep your necklaces from tangling.

5. Drinking straws: Prevent your necklaces from getting tangled. Simply thread one side of the chain through a plastic straw and attach at the other end. It keeps one side rigid and tangle-free.

6. Pill containers: Do you have a days of the week pill organizer? Use it to separate rings and earrings on-the-go. You can use one you have at home or purchase from your local pharmacy for around $5.

7. Travel toiletry containers: Use those extra GoTubbs , snack cups and other travel containers to store small jewelry items. They’re ideal for rings and earrings that won’t be affected by tangling.

8. Cling Wrap: Ideal for necklaces, you can prevent tangling by lying the items out on one piece of the “ Press N Seal ” style and pressing them together, making sure to give space between them. You should be able to find it easily at the grocery store, but standard cling wrap will also work if you roll it.

travel jewelry roll

9. Jewelry rolls: Organize your items through zippered compartments and a large panel that folds over and ties to keep from getting tangled. Buy online or make your own using these instructions . They also take up little room since they lie flat.

10. Ziploc bags : If you have plenty of bags, place one item in each bag with end of the necklace zipped in the top. Rings and earrings can be placed into bags together.

11. Washcloth and rubber bands: I love this idea from Pinterest about how to make your own jewelry roll without buying or sewing anything. Simply place your necklaces apart on a washcloth, roll them lengthwise and fold in half, adding rubber bands to each end to keep them secure.

12. Erasers: Keep the backs to your stud earrings from getting lost in transit by sticking them in a simple eraser leftover from your school days.

bead organizers for jewelry

13. Craft store bead organizer or fishing tackle container: These are basically the same but are marketed differently. Either way, seek out a clear plastic container with removable compartments. That way, you can change them out for your specific items.

14. Travel soap dish: Store bracelets, earrings, and rings in a travel soap dish that you can pick up at just about any store. It can protect everything and keep it in one place.

15. Contacts case : These work for almost everything, specifically small earrings. Use a container you no longer have a use for.

16. Styrofoam plate: Simply stick your earrings through the plate, which is best for studs and dangling earrings. Then you can throw it in your suitcase, surrounded by other things.

carabiners work well for rings

17. Carabiners : You really can use them for everything! These cheap items can be used for bracelets or even necklaces by simply clipping them on.

18. Toilet paper roll: Once you’ve used it all, loop your bracelets around it and then strand your necklaces through the tube itself. Place on top of your suitcase for the best results.

19. Baseball card holders : Remember those plastic divider pages you’d use to protect baseball cards or other collectibles? They also are great for separating your jewelry. Place each item in its own pocket.

20. Glasses case: Once you’ve grown out of a pair of glasses, use your glasses or sunglasses case for bracelets, earrings, and smaller items.

Old buttons are small and easy to pack with earrings.

21. Buttons: Keep those earring backs safe by threading them through those extra buttons you’ve been saving from every shirt.

22. Safety pins: Loop your hoops or dainty necklaces through a safety pin like you would with the carabiner.

23. Zippered pouches: You can buy these in satin varieties in Asia or at stores like the Container Store in the US. Small pouches of any variety will do for bracelets and earrings.

24. Socks : A member of our HPLWorld community recommended using socks for rings. You can place items inside since you’ll already be packing them.

empty lip balm tubes hold jewelry

25. Empty lip balm container: This one is specific to the Eos brand , but once you’ve used all the lip balm, they make a great earring container. Pop them in your purse for safekeeping!

26. Hanging jewelry cases: Like jewelry rolls, these toiletry and cosmetic cases can also be used for jewelry. It allows you to keep organized while being able to see everything. Check this one out on Amazon.

27. Cupcake liners: Another recommended placing earrings in cupcake liners, either paper or foil, and then wrapping in foil or another item to keep everything in place.

28. Index cards: Push backs of earrings through or loop bracelets and necklaces around them.

Use business or playing cards to keep jewelry organized.

29. Business or playing cards: Like with index cards, you can organize necklaces by placing two small cuts in cards to wrap around tightly and keep secure.

30. Wine corks: Similar to erasers, use wine corks for earring backs.

Extra Tips for Traveling with Jewelry

We’ve mentioned it briefly in the intro, but choosing the right jewelry can be an easy way to take your outfit from day to night. Here are some extra tips to consider:

1) Pack a statement necklace. Something bold will take the attention off the clothing underneath, and it will trick you into feeling like you’re wearing a completely new outfit. Plus statement necklaces can dress up the most simple ensembles! (See our professional packing list for more tips.)

2) Pack cheap jewelry. It goes without saying that you should never pack any jewelry that you’d be upset with losing or having stolen.

If you cannot find these in a local retail outlet to test spritz, many of the scents listed below come in smaller sizes for sampling. Opening notes of citrus are spiked with spicy pink pepper and floral iris while heart notes of saffron, sage, and musk add intrigue. This one throws off sexy Amalfi vibes.

Bergamot, Tunisian orange blossom, and Indonesian patchouli come together to create the perfect blend of woodsy citrus for a modern take on masculinity. The addition of Ambrofix delivers strong and sensual amber-rich notes that last all day.

Blending zesty Calabrian bergamot with the invigorating power of espresso, this scent is ideal for crushing whatever the work day brings. Vetiver and amber notes round out the heady concoction.

Oud Wood Intense by Tom Ford

Oud Wood Intense by Tom Ford

Some have called this iconic scent “a statement in a bottle,” and they certainly aren’t wrong. Cardamom and patchouli are the supporting actors in the warm, rich play of the heady rare oud. Hints of vanilla, tonka bean and amber resin only belie the power of this truly captivating fragrance.

Known as one of the most expensive raw fragrance ingredients in the world, oud is derived from the infected resinous heartwood of the agar tree, found primarily in Southeast Asia. Once distilled, the scent is lovely on its own but when blended with contrasting florals, the end result is otherworldly sensual and exotic.

Hermès H24

This contemporary and modern scent uses clary sage and narcissus to create a crisp opening while the rosewood and metallic sclarene notes lend an edge that is positively exhilarating. House perfumer Christine Nagel crafted this scent as her vision of blending nature with technology.

Sauvage Elixir by Dior

Sauvage Elixir by Dior

Taking the iconic Sauvage fragrance to new heights with a more intense formula, Elixir features cinnamon and nutmeg to add warmth and depth while lavender, amber and patchouli create a sensual base. The luxury brand says of this concentrated blend, “Sauvage Elixir is a fragrance as unique and rare as a red moon in the night sky.” Who wouldn’t want a date night like that?

Santalum by Ranger Station

Santalum by Ranger Station

With notes of sandalwood, amber resin, iris, and leather, this blend riffs on the Ranger Station scent that started it all: Leather + Pine . Husband-and-wife duo and brand founders, Jordan and Steve Soderholm craft their scents in Nashville, and have collaborated with musicians such as Ernest, Noah Kahan, and Thomas Rhett to imbue each bottle with a singularity that must be smelled to be appreciated.

Bois de Balincourt (No. 4) by Maison Louis Marie

Bois de Balincourt (No. 4) by Maison Louis Marie

Truth be told, each scent in the Maison Louis Marie line is gender-neutral and notable in their ability to garner attention. No. 4 was created by the line’s Co-founder, Marie du Petit Thouars, harnessing her memories of woodland walks on “Lover’s Lane” in France.

Sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver are spiced up with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. We suggest layering the scent with a matching lotion or perfumed body oil . “When your skin is moisturized, it just allows the fragrance to actually bond to your skin and creates a longevity to the scent,” says Matthew Berkson, CEO and co-founder, Maison Louis Marie.

Musgo Real: Black Edition by Claus Porto

Musgo Real: Black Edition by Claus Porto

Undeniably sexy and intriguing, this Claus Porto scent lets top notes of juniper berries and bergamot make way for cacao, nutmeg and cardamom. Vetiver, patchouli, cedar and tonka bean base the scent which may make your significant other weak in the knees.

Polo Earth Provencial Sage by Ralph Lauren

Polo Earth Provencial Sage by Ralph Lauren

Made with seven sustainably sourced ingredients, this herbaceous floral scent featuring bergamot and mandarin is grounded by base notes of sage and vetiver. The price point on this one means you can spritz it before a trip to the farmers market, gym, date night, or anywhere else life takes you.

Inspired by a road trip through Death Valley, this scent opens with bright notes of pink pepper, oranges, and freesia before giving way to heart notes of myrrh and cypriol which lend a bit of spicy heat. Virginian cedar and vetiver offer a smokiness that only ups the mysterious factor. Rotate the metal lid of this solid perfume to open, use your index finger to dab on your wrist and the part of your chest right where your heart lies, and go take on the day.

Crisp pear, cardamom, and lavender top notes give way to a surprising hint of powdery iris. But it is the leathery patchouli base that is the undeniable star of this show, imparting the wearer a firm but protective aura.

Costa by Re-Eau

This alcohol-free, plant-based unisex is meant to be used after the shower or bath as a clean, layering scent. Inspired by the freshness of water, it has top notes of greenery, bergamot, and black currant; heart notes of apple, jasmine, rose and iris; and base notes of powdery musk and vanilla. This clean and minimal fragrance is ideal for the person who's not a huge fan of heavy, sultry colognes.

Penhaligon’s AlUla

Penhaligon’s AlUla

The latest from this old-world British “olfactory entertainer,” this scent pays homage to places where the sand meets the sky. Warm plum is tempered by vanilla while notes of saffron and patchouli add interest. Cardamom and turmeric ground the blend. Evocative of far-flung places, wearers may be asked if they just came off the ancient spice route or in from some exotic locale.

Russia to Build High-Speed Railway Between Moscow and St. Petersburg

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia has approved a project to build the first high-speed passenger railway between its two biggest cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg, to be funded with billions of dollars from the state budget, a government directive showed on Thursday.

The government approved the construction of the 679 km railroad, which should allow Russian-made trains travelling at 360 km/hour per hour to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg in 2-2.5 hours instead of the current 4-5 hours, on the first business day of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The railway, which will cost more than 2.3 trillion roubles ($25.97 billion), will be built by a Russian company, VSM Two Capitals, on concession terms using state and private money.

The Russian government plans to allocate at least 300 billion roubles of loans from the National Welfare Fund at 1% in 2025, and subsidies amounting to about 328 billion roubles between 2024 and 2038, the directive showed.

More than 580 billion roubles is needed for the project from the National Welfare Fund, with other funding coming from sources including Russian state-owned banks VTB, Sberbank and Gazprombank, the former minister of transport Vitaly Savelyev said in February.

The head of Russia's Sberbank German Gref said on Thursday it will participate in financing the project.

Russia has proposed to raise taxes for companies and the wealthy, which may add an extra $30 billion to next year's budget revenues and allow Moscow to increase spending, including on its war in Ukraine.

"I was scrutinized for such a long time that you just have to find a way to live with it. Nobody likes to be looked at all the time and, you know, criticized," Camilla told British Vogue of all the public attention she faces . "But I think in the end, I sort of rise above it and get on with it. You’ve got to get on with life."

Here, a guide to Queen Camilla's best brooches through the years.

Inside Huxley & Hiro, a bookstore with animal greeters and Curious Histories section

Independent bookstores are the heartbeats of their communities. They provide culture and community, generate local jobs and sales tax revenue, promote literacy and education, champion and center diverse and new authors, connect readers to books in a personal and authentic way, and actively support the right to read and access to books in their communities.

Each week we profile an independent bookstore, sharing what makes each one special and getting their expert and unique book recommendations.

This week we have Huxley & Hiro in Wilmington, Delaware!

What’s your store’s story?

Huxley & Hiro is a woman and LGBTQ owned bookstore in historic downtown Wilmington. As a public benefit corporation, the store's mission is to partner with local non-profits and provide a community meeting space for the arts. Our store is named after our Maine Coon cat Huxley and Shiba Inu dog Hiro, who make regular appearances to welcome customers. Shortly after opening, owners Ryan Eanes and Claire van den Broek were named most influential Delawareans of 2024 in the business category!

Check out: USA TODAY's Independent Bookstores Map

What makes your independent bookstore special?

In the digital age where books are so easily and freely accessible online, and where we are constantly engaged on our phones and other devices, we recognized an increasing desire for places where people could come together in person and share their love of literature. Through a carefully curated selection of books and a design that is browsing-friendly, we want to offer our community a new take on the beloved experience of in-person shopping on a downtown Main Street. Though we as founders are millennials, we realized that both younger and older generations see the Millennial/Gen X vision of virtual communities as far more dystopian than the idealized image we had of the possibilities of technology. Our society seems to have a deep seated desire to return to in-person communities and 15 minute neighborhoods where we can build interpersonal connections not mediated by technology.

What's your favorite section in your store?

My (Claire) favorite section of the store is our 'Curious Histories' display. Influenced by James Daunt , who created an entire London bookstore organized by country instead of genre (no sci-fi, because that wasn't classifiable by country), we wanted to bring to life a curated collection that drew on many genres, centered around the theme of 'Curious Histories'. We pulled books from cooking, travel, history, the sciences, and so on that focused on unusual stories, like the history of the egg or Sesame Street in Moscow. Our hope is that this display will offer people a new way of browsing that doesn't confine them to the genre towards which they usually gravitate; the kind of experience algorithms online aren't good at curating.

What book do you love to recommend to customers and why?

My favorite recommendation is Sadegh Hedayat's "Blind Owl," a deeply disturbing novella written by an Iranian author in the 1930s. Imagine if Edgar Allan Poe and Franz Kafka had a child born in Iran, who grew up watching F. W. Murnau's "Nosferatu." Surreal and dreamlike, at times verging on an early Middle Eastern magical realism, this largely unknown novella will haunt you.

What book do you think deserves more attention and why?

Though it's a classic, I'm always surprised more people aren't familiar with Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita." Written in Soviet Russia and censored until after his death, Mikhail Bulgakov's comedic novel chronicles the adventures of Satan, his cat and his valet as they visit Moscow. The story is strongly interwoven with Goethe's "Faust," one of the greatest plays ever written, and in many ways, it's also the love story of the Master and his Margarita (Faust and Gretchen). Brilliant, hilarious, and at times quite moving.

Why is shopping at local, independent bookstores important?

When you choose a local, independent bookstore, more of your money stays within the community. We want to live in vibrant, 15 minute walking communities where we can find unique things and discover new experiences. Bookstores remain a critical part of this experience, and only by supporting local businesses can we ensure that these kinds of neighborhoods remain a reality. Sure you can buy a book cheaply, but do you want to live next a massive warehouse with trucks coming and going at all hours, or do you want to grab your coffee and dog and wander into a beautiful local store with friendly employees who know you and can help you discover new books?

What are some of your store's events, programs, or partnerships coming up this quarter that you would like to share?

We regularly partner with other local businesses for experiences such as coffee tastings from a local roaster, a bag making workshop that benefits women with cancer, and historical talks such as our event with a 102 year old WWII Air Force Veteran to celebrate that our city has been named an American WWII Heritage City.

We are also partnering with Delaware Futures to create a Banned Books Advocacy Program that will allow disadvantaged youths to spend six weeks exploring banned books, learning to write letters to school boards, and gaining a better understanding of why groups want to ban books and how to fight censorship. At the end of the Program, they will earn a certificate that we hope will provide them with an advantage in their college applications.

'A Gentleman in Moscow' Review — Ewan McGregor Effortlessly Charms From a Gilded Cage

  • Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead's chemistry shines in A Gentleman in Moscow as Alexander navigates relationships in his gilded cage.
  • The storytelling cleverly deploys nonlinear narrative and amusing dialogue to engage the viewer.
  • A slow start evolves into a compelling historical epic within the Metropol's walls.

Based on Amor Towles ’ critically acclaimed novel by the same name, A Gentleman in Moscow is Showtime’s next great historical drama. While the mention of “Moscow” in the title might make the mind’s eye wander down snowy streets in the shadow of Saint Basil's Cathedral, A Gentleman in Moscow is far removed from the sprawl of a struggling society and is instead a far more quaint tale , set within the confines of a grandiose hotel-turned-prison cell.

Like the gilt Fabergé egg that adorns the poster for the series, Count Alexander Rostov’s ( Ewan McGregor ) existence is a reminder of the opulence of bygone days—an ostentatious relic. He serves no real purpose in the grand scheme of things, except to be watched within his gilded cage, and kept account of by authorities, much like the dwindling few eggs that sit in collections around the world. And much like the Fabergé egg, Alexander’s life is inextricably linked to the tragic downfall of the Romanov family and the Bolshevik revolution of 1917 that followed.

The series starts swiftly, with the Bolshevik tribunal sentencing the Count to a lifetime of confinement within the walls of the Metropol Hotel. He is spared a far worse sentencing ( death ) due to the poem that he allegedly penned, which critiqued the upper class and questioned the purpose of the royal family. These are, of course, ideals that the Bolsheviks agree with, even if they are being echoed by a Count who benefited from the institutions he criticized. As with Towles’ novel, much of the Count’s life before the revolution is shown through fragmented flashbacks dotted throughout the series, as well as through illuminating conversations with his compatriots — or, rather, comrades, Mishka ( Fehinti Balogun ) and Prince Nikolai Petrov ( Paul Ready ).

‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ Breathes New Life Into Its Characters

With Ben Vanstone as the guiding hand for the series, A Gentleman in Moscow was smartly adapted from page to screen. Rather than embracing the novel's insular storytelling, with the Count as the sole protagonist, Vanstone has widened the narrative to bring more life to the surrounding characters — particularly the women who come in and out of his life, and the gilded doors of the Metropol. It would have been very easy to frame Anna Urbanova ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead ) as little more than the Count’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. Her life outside of Alexander doesn’t matter on the page; she only exists when she is with him or on his mind. Perhaps with a different creative team, that would have been exactly how she was portrayed, but Vanstone veered far away from playing straight into that trope. Instead, Anna’s life outside of Alexander is given depth . Her career as an actress is a vital subplot that weaves through each episode, headed towards a larger plot point. While she and the Count do fall into bed on numerous occasions, it’s always handled tastefully and shown as a relationship that she holds the reins to. Courting a criminal comes at great personal risk to her budding career, which makes the shifted narrative all the more vital.

A Gentleman in Moscow marks the third time that McGregor and Winstead have shared the screen following their performances in Fargo and Birds of Prey , and their real-life chemistry beautifully carries through into the relationship between Alexander and Anna. They play off each other naturally, and their performances are just as electric, regardless of whether Anna is keeping his delusions of grandeur in check or he’s sprawled out naked on the ground with nothing more than a towel to hide the… Fabergé eggs. McGregor and Winstead's dynamic is half the fun of A Gentleman in Moscow . It’s refreshing to have even more historical romances to talk about around the watercooler — and audiences will be raving about this series given its weekly release schedule.

While Alexander’s relationship with Anna is at the heart of A Gentleman in Moscow , the soul of the series is his unlikely friendships with two little girls who call the Metropol home during different periods of his imprisonment. First is Nina Kulikova ( Alexa Goodall ), a curly-haired spitfire who has everyone in the hotel wrapped around her finger. It’s through Nina that Alexander starts to make genuine connections with the host of characters around him, which changes him for the better. Years after Nina has been set free from Alexander’s gilded cage, a second young girl comes into Alexander’s life: Sofia ( Billie Gadsdon ). Through both girls, Alexander gets to experience what fatherhood might have looked like for him had he not been ensnared by the Bolsheviks.

Another notable and equally unlikely friendship that Alexander makes at the Metropol is the one that he forges with Osip Glebnikov ( Johnny Harris ), the man tasked with ensuring he never leaves the hotel. Glebnikov enlists Alexander in training him to be more of a gentleman. Given his upbringing, he was never afforded the same access to scholarly works or classic literature as Alexander, and this academic pursuit becomes their evening conversations over supper.

One such conversation centers on Victor Hugo ’s seminal work, Les Misérables , which is a cause of confusion for Glebnikov, who withers at the notion of Javert (spoilers for a 162-year-old book) committing suicide. While the conversation about Les Misérables may be brief, the comparison between the two works is undeniable. Alexander, much like Jean Valjean, is a prisoner of circumstances, though on wildly different sides of the scale. While Valjean escapes from his jailor, Javert, for large swaths of time, Alexander is always right where Glebnikov left him within the halls of the Metropol. The true comparison, however, arises when Alexander is tasked with the care of young Sofia by her mother, much in the same way Fantine entrusts Cosette’s future with Valjean. Further comparisons could be made with the setting of both tales, as they are both set against uprisings, revolutions, class disparity, and the sort of socialist discourse that would make Karl Marx sit up in his grave. And, much like the stage musical, A Gentleman in Moscow is all about the turning of the years.

‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ Starts Slow, But Builds to a Pulse-Pounding Conclusion

Spread out across eight episodes, A Gentleman in Moscow spans approximately forty years of Alexander’s life in captivity. With each new episode, a running total of how many days he has spent in his lavish prison is tallied up. Occasionally, the episodes will work backward from each shocking total, which cleverly hooks the audience right from the onset of the episode. Except for his visible aging and waning agility, the Count remains largely stagnant as the world changes around him. He has very little control over his circumstances, which means a lot happens to him, not with him. People come and go around him, relationships are formed, babies are born, those babies grow up and go to war, people die, and Russia evolves—for better and for worse.

The first handful of episodes start slowly, particularly where Alexander’s passivity is concerned, but as he begins to come to terms with his situation and connect with the vibrant world around him, however small it may be, the pace finally picks up. Without revealing too many details about the final episodes of the series, one might be able to imagine what sort of turmoil might visit his gilded cage once Stalin’s regime falls and America starts poking around the ruins of the government. The passage of time is cleverly shown through more than just a running total and graying hair. While Alexander’s wardrobe rarely receives an upgrade, the people around him represent the ever-evolving world beyond the Metropol. Anna is the best bellwether for societal changes as her appearance transforms from a picture-perfect blonde bombshell with rising hemlines to her natural brunette curls and sophisticated elegance. As time continues to pass, she even dons cozy sweaters that mirror Alexander’s own comfortable existence.

While it is unlikely that A Gentleman in Moscow intended for Ewan McGregor to look like a dark academia fever dream, every bit of the Count’s character design screams the aesthetic. From the unkempt coif of permed curls to his longjohns-clad calisthenics in a dusty attic, Alexander looks more like an eccentric history professor than a count whose wings have been clipped. McGregor brings a charming congenitally to the role that makes the Count ever so beguiling , particularly when he gets to act opposite the younger members of the cast. When he’s not going toe-to-toe with Winstead, he’s at his best keeping up with the spry wit of Goodall and Gadsdon's characters.

A Gentleman in Moscow lives up to the expectations set by Towles’ novel and delivers a sprawling historical epic contained within the walls of a single location. The Count’s world might be as small as the Metropol, but he lives vicariously through the relationships he makes — and, by extension, so do we. With mystery, danger, and intrigue threaded throughout, A Gentleman in Moscow has the potential to dominate cultural conversation in the same way that Shōgun and The Gilded Age have nourished audiences who are starved for well-told, compelling tales.

A Gentleman in Moscow lives up to the original novel it adapts, delivering a sprawling historical epic confined to a single location.

  • Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead electrify the screen with their chemistry and natural ease together.
  • The writing is clever, both with its amusing dialogue and the way it deploys nonlinear storytelling to keep audiences engaged.
  • The set and costume design are sumptuous and visually appealing.
  • The first handful of episodes are quite slow, but the series does eventually pick up as the story unfolds.

A Gentleman in Moscow premieres March 29 on streaming and on-demand on Paramount+ with Showtime before its on-air debut on March 31.
