Follow the trade routes and evolution of the unique Aboriginal art of Riji and see the works of today’s master pearl shell carvers.

Touch feel and sort a selection of our beautiful harvest as we guide you through the specialised skill of pearl grading. This is a rare and unique opportunity to follow the pearl’s journey post-harvest through to selection for jewellery production, in an intimate hands-on experience.

What You Need to Know about Cygnet Bay

Searching for a new place to explore during your holiday in the Kimberley? One of the best things to do in the Kimberley is to drive down to Cygnet Bay (Borrgoron). Waterfall Reef

Another way to explore Cygnet Bay would be with a Kimberley safari tour. These tours take you on a 2-hour-long sea adventure around the turquoise waters of the Kimberley. How to travel there?

Cygnet Bay is located in the Kimberley, only a couple of hours away from Broome. It can be accessed through a tour or by car. Booking a tour means you get to see the Kimberley region and the main Broome attractions on offer. Sometimes places that the general public cannot go to and you will learn interesting things about the local area. This can be a great way to tour the best of the Kimberley as you make your way up to Cygnet Bay. If you are already in the area on a holiday, or as a local, day tours are also available from Broome.

If you’re wanting to go at your own pace, booking a 4WD can be a better option. You can hire a 4WD vehicle such as a Landcruiser or an Outback from Kimberley Tours 4WD Hire to travel to Cygnet Bay. This option allows you to travel at your own speed and offers amazing views of the Kimberley along your road trip. The road from Broome to Cygnet Bay (Cape Leveque Road) is now completely sealed and is now suitable for 2WD journeys. Bear in mind that the Pearl Farm is located up a 3km unsealed driveway. The 7km journey from Cygnet Bay to Cape Leveque is also only accessible by 4WD so it is best to book a 4WD tour to experience the best of this region.

Although you will learn all about the interesting history through a Kimberley adventure tour, we can give you a little taste of what you will be learning about.

Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm was founded in 1960 by Dean Brown and is currently run by James Brown and his team. It was the first Australian-run pearl farm that contributed to the 80% of pearls being supplied to the rest of the world. In 2009, Cygnet Bay became the first pearl farm to welcome visitors, opening many more opportunities for the pearling industry. As the ever-changing marine ecosystem continues to be unpredictable over the years, Cygnet Bay has had to adapt to the new challenges that come with pearl farming. As a result, by opening up to the public and allowing tourists to explore, dine and stay in their little slice of paradise, the business has continued to thrive and stay open for travellers to wander across.

*For safety reasons the minimum age for the sea safari tour is 5 years of age. During neap tides, the Giant Tides Sea Safari is replaced by the Kimberley Island Explorer Boat Tour. This neap tide experience traverses the intertidal zones of the beautiful and deserted 'thousand islands' which make up the Buccaneer Archipelago. Due to scheduled tour times at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, we cannot guarantee the amount or level of water flowing through the Horizontal Waterfalls at our chosen time of arrival.

Cygnet Bay Meet the crew at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm at 7:30 AM

All Aboard Catch a tender to our Ohana vessel where our crew will welcome you onboard. Once underway you will be treated to your freshly cooked breakfast as we navigate up the coast taking in the stunning scenery of the Buccaneer Archipelago, Hidden Island, Silica Beach, Cockatoo Island, Koolan Island and much more!

Cruise through the Kimberley Marvel at the incredible rock formations created billions of years ago as we cruise to Talbot Bay, home of the magnificent and famous Horizontal Falls. Keep an eye out for the remarkable wildlife, including flying fish, sea eagles, dolphins, turtles and humpback whales. Learn the history of Western Australia’s unforgettable destination, the Kimberley.

Fast Boat Ride As we approach Talbot Bay, guests will board the fast boat and cruise to the Horizontal Falls for an up close look at this natural wonder. Get your cameras out - you'll cruise right up close to the majestic Horizontal Falls.

Sit Back and Relax 

Cruise in style with a 7-course feast of Western Australian seafood and locally produced ingredients, crafted by an expert chef on board while you take in the beautiful scenery as we make our way back to Cygnet Bay. Ohana's onboard guide will point out the unique geography and history of the region while our private chef prepares each course against a backdrop of fading afternoon light.
