Tour Edge Exotics C721 Irons Review

Tour edge exotics c721 irons.

These irons recently popped up all over the place after golf-legend John Daly put a full set of the new Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons in his bag the week of the 2021 Insperity Invitational on the Champions Tour. Then he almost won the tournament. (He finished T-2 after an unfortunate water ball.) The innovative C721 (“C” stands for “competitive”) irons are a first of its kind from Tour Edge and designed to be a player’s distance iron with more traditional looks and great feel. By introducing Diamond Face 2.0 and the new VIBRCOR technology to their irons, Tour Edge has truly taken another big leap in their modern club designs.

Looks 7

“Player’s distance irons” is always a bit of a weird category for me. In theory, the irons are supposed to have a lot of game improvement (GI) features, but with the look and feel of a player’s iron. In my opinion, it’s hard to really accomplish both of those things and recreate a “blade” look by any means. That said, I want a more compact head length from heel to toe, a nice shape, minimal offset, and nothing more than a medium topline. That’s exactly how I’d describe Tour Edge’s C721 irons. You’re not going to mistake them for the EXS Pro blades , but the head length and offset is moderate. Right between the player’s and GI categories in my opinion. I’d put the topline on the medium side, but it has a nice roll to it so it doesn’t come off as bulky.

If you’re a tenured player’s distance iron golfer, you know this what you should expect. From that perspective, the C721 irons are a really good looking “PDI” iron . Rather than make the “shiny parts” polished chrome, they have a more matte finish to reduce glare and wear better over time. While a very contemporary look, the aesthetic is tasteful and dare I say it…somewhat elegant. The branding is very smooth and clean.

Feel 12

How Does it Feel?

Like I said before, the Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons really are a first for the brand. While companies have had success utilizing “materials injected into hollow irons” for a bit now, the C721 is Tour Edge’s first. Tour Edge placed their “VIBRCOR” TPU material into two different places of the hollow head so the feel is cleaner and more “pure”. Without this material the head would feel extremely metallic and empty due to the hollow body.

Also contributing to the C721 irons’ feel is another first – Diamond Face 2.0 technology. To date, Tour Edge has only utilized this technology in metalwoods (to great success, I might add), but this the first we’ve seen it in irons. There are 92 diamond shapes of three different thicknesses behind the face to make it more forgiving with a bigger sweet spot and higher ball speeds. Put the Diamond Face together with the VIBRCOR and you get an extremely lively, powerful, and clean feeling iron with plenty of face response .

I’m telling you, this face has great feedback for this style of iron and is generous over much more of the hitting surface. While I won’t sit here and tell you it feels like a forged muscle back, it feels like a solid head that will give you what you need to hit everything from a high draw to a soft butter cut from some hard pan under an old tree. Not that I’d know anything about that…

Tour Edge Exotics C721 Irons 14

How Does it Sound?

VIBRCOR also plays a huge role in the sound of the Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons. Without a foam/resin material to dampen these hollow heads, the clubs would sound super empty and more like a metalwood than an iron. And it’s not as simple as injecting just any foam or resin into the head. You have to make sure the blend is just right to optimize feel and sound, and durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of hitting golf balls. So if I think about it, the material has to be somewhat soft and flexible to handle impact, but firm enough to feel like a somewhat solid iron with a good sound.

Ok, I’ll get to the point. Based on utilizing the VIBRCOR injection, the C721 irons naturally have a sound that’s a muted, yet firm and tight, “thwap/whap” . Ease up a bit and it becomes a muted “tick”. It’s a good clean sound. Because of the Diamond Face 2.0 design, the sound is pretty consistent across the face. The extreme misses will sound a little dead, but that’s to be expected with any iron. That said, the dead zone is pleasantly minimal with the C721s (wait until we talk about the E721 irons…). Overall it’s a good solid sound that gives you the feedback you’re looking for.

On-Course Performance

The Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons are every bit of a player’s distance irons, no question. They’re LONG and powerful. My flight was super easy to control with the wind to the point that it was almost a non-factor unless the gusts were massive. My stock shot was a piercing flight with a mild rise for greater distances. Tour Edge also got creative with what they call the “L-Cup Face” for more distance. First, the L-Cup essentially acts as a hinge to help with the face flex at impact. It’s made out of a military-grade steel that allowed Tour Edge to make the face thinner which also increases flex. With the trampoline effect from the Diamond Face and the flex from the L-Cup, there is a lot of jump off of the face .

It’s worth noting that yes, the C721s do have stronger lofts, but it’s relative. Each club is lofted about a club stronger, meaning the 4 iron is more like a 3 iron, etc. Tour Edge offers the set in 3 thru A wedge so if you want to play more traditional gaps in lofts for your irons, you’re covered. This is also common for the player’s distance iron category in general, so just be smart about how you put your bag together.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Exotics C721 Irons

Look, buy a set of Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons and you’ll start hitting the ball like John Daly too! Ok, that’s obviously not guaranteed, but you never know.

In my experience, player’s distance irons always seem to struggle finding the right combination of bigger distances and a shotmaker’s level of control. Finding both of those in one club can be tricky. In my opinion, the C721 irons got it right. The beauty of the design wasn’t as much the “added” distance, but rather the distance is easier to achieve while still being able to control the ball and get creative with different shots you’d want from a player’s iron. That’s a pretty great combination and I think others will find the C721 to be one of the better overall player’s distance irons they’ll hit.

I really like your review of the Tour eDge C721 irons, Bill. I just bought a used set of these off the Tour Edge website. I’m getting on and finding distance with the irons a bit of a challenge, not so much with the woods. So I thought these might bring me back to the distance I had say 5-10 years ago. Even if some of it is attributable to stronger lofts, I hope some of it is the sprinig effect of the face and my efforts. I wonder if you think there is any advantage to the newer C722 ?

' src=

I think the 722 is generally better, but it has a little more of a “player” profile than the 721. That’s the biggest difference in my opinion.

Tour Edge C721 Irons Review | CHANCE TO WIN THESE PLAYERS IRONS!

The Tour Edge C721 irons are becoming more popular in the UK and we are offering our readers the chance to win a set of them.

But first, we would like to run you through the qualities of these irons. Alex took them to Kings Golf Studio in East Grinstead to see how they performed.

tour edge c721 irons review

Firstly, they are an ultra-premium iron, but they have a very affordable price tag of £799 which is much more reasonable than irons at the top of the market such as Mizuno and TaylorMade.

The Tour Edge C721 irons are player's irons and you can see this by the top line and the shaping of the clubheads.

This design is meant to deliver both forgiveness and distance. It comes with a Diamond face 2.0 and they are similar to the TaylorMade P790's with their explosiveness.

The Tour Edge C721 irons come with very strong lofts. The 7-iron is 30 degrees and the 6-iron is 26.5 degrees. As you can see by the footage, Alex produces some very long and impressive shots.

The clubs produced very high ball speeds with each shot producing at least 140 mph in ball speed. This is very consistent for such reasonably-priced clubs.

The data at Kings Golf Studio showed consistent dispersion and also a penetrating ball flight. This contributed to solid distances with each shot too.

Tour Edge C721 Irons Review | CHANCE TO WIN THESE PLAYERS IRONS!

Irons such as Mizuno and TaylorMade can be found up to double the price of the Tour Edge C721 irons. They offer fantastic value and they can be used by the majority of handicapped golfers.

GolfMagic have teamed up with American Golf to give away a set of Tour Edge C721 irons.

Tour edge exotics c721 irons review - a superstar in the players distance category.

Players Distance irons became a big story in the equipment industry about five years ago.  The idea being to combine the playability of cavity back irons with the looks of better players irons.  Distance, workability, control, forgiveness, and feel are all part of the equation, but sacrifices are usually made in one area for another.

tour edge c721 irons review

Well, Tour Edge apparently decided to take a different approach to players distance irons, one that sacrifices nothing.  And their new Exotics C721 irons should be on everyone's shortlist as a candidate for best players distance irons of 2021.

There's a lot of technology packed in the C721 irons.  In fact, I'd call them a technological tour de force.  Dual VIBRCOR for feel, Diamond Face 2.0 for forgiveness, and military grade maraging steel for faster ball speeds to mention just a few.  You can read about this tech here .

tour edge c721 irons review

Technology is always a cool backstory, but like you what I care about most is performance.  Do they perform as advertised?  And I can tell you Tour Edge overdelivers with the C721 irons.  I fact, I'd put C721 in the upper percentile for every performance category we're about to cover.

tour edge c721 irons review

If you're looking at players distance irons, obviously there's no such thing as too much distance.  And the C721 are easily one of the longest irons I've hit over the past year.  And that includes more than a dozen irons in the players distance category.

tour edge c721 irons review

C721 are stronger lofted irons, but they launch with rising trajectories and have plenty of backspin to hold greens even with long irons.  You feel immediately at impact these are hot face irons, but to merely call these hot or spring-like honestly doesn't do them justice.

tour edge c721 irons review

At impact with C721 you get more of that strong, bullet-speed feel like when you pure a blade.  Only with C721 it's a lot easier to do, and the distance is a lot more effortless.

tour edge c721 irons review

Which brings me to forgiveness, and an area where the C721 arguably might be best in class.  For a players distance iron, the C721 has the widest area of forgiveness (or call it sweet spot if you like) of any iron I've played or tested in this category.

tour edge c721 irons review

Hit one out towards the toe or high on the face (and I'm talking a good full ball away from center), and the forgiveness is nothing short of exceptional.  C721 irons essentially give you abundant mishit protection by keeping dispersion and distance in particular very consistent with your good strikes.  Even shots struck low on the face still launch higher than you'd expect and give you very playable distance.  You get a large enough hitting zone to do pretty much anything you want, yet without needing to be perfect.

tour edge c721 irons review

So what about feel you might be thinking?  These are hollow body irons after all, and feel is what's often sacrificed most when irons are extremely forgiving like C721.  Well, here again, Tour Edge impressed the heck out of me.  These are iron equivalents of a smooth handling car.

tour edge c721 irons review

Feel is anything but hollow with the C721 irons.  At impact it's like a silky soft sensation and very solid.  Not quite as solid as a pure blade, but solid enough that you probably wouldn't guess they are hollow just by hitting them.  But that's only part of the feel story.

tour edge c721 irons review

The C721 irons also have incredible feedback, and this is an area where they again stand out in the players distance iron category.  I mentioned earlier how center strikes and mishits deliver consistently similar performance in distance and direction.  But you can clearly feel when you don't hit one dead center.

tour edge c721 irons review

It's a clickier vibration feel when you miss out on the extreme areas of the face.  Nothing harsh like a blade, but enough to let you know exactly where you made contact.  For a 22 handicap player maybe this doesn't mean much.  But for say a 2 handicap?  This means everything.

tour edge c721 irons review

So you get the distance, you get the forgiveness, and you get the feel.  What about the shape?  This is always subjective to talk about, and I prefer to let the pictures do the talking.

tour edge c721 irons review

I will say however C721 have a small enough head shape to easily work the ball.  And the sole just plows through turf and rough.  Short iron control is exceptional, and it's very easy to control trajectory and hit more boring shots when you need them.  These won't be mistaken for blades, but still have an overall very clean look.

tour edge c721 irons review

Tour Edge's growing reputation as a heavyweight in equipment industry and even on professional tours is largely based on outstanding performance of their drivers, woods, and hybrids.  And the acclaim is wholly justified.

tour edge c721 irons review

So I don't say this lightly when I tell you the Exotics C721 irons in my opinion are the best clubs of any kind Tour Edge has ever created.  C721 are big-time performers in the players distance iron category that will appeal to and satisfy the demands of a broad range of skills.

Great review. Already picked up the C721 driver and may consider replacing my RogueX irons

tour edge c721 irons review

Thanks Jack. And can tell you, I also have the C721 driver, am thrilled with that as well. And yet somehow the C721 irons excited me even more than the driver. As I think I mentioned in my review, these are my favorite clubs of any kind I've ever played from Tour Edge. They just absolutely nailed everything about these. 👍

tour edge c721 irons review

I just bought the C721 Irons A-5i. All I can say is wow. I'm and 60 year old with a 9 handicap. I've start losing distance with my Mizuno MP irons, most because of age related swing speed loss. These C721 irons have brought me back to my original distances. Solid strikes and great feel. Give the a whirl, you can't help but like them. Also, don't think you are buying a lower grade golf club. Tour Edge is right up there with the best of them at a fraction of the cost. You most likely will not hit those $1500 Pings any better.

A first look at Tour Edge's new 721 series irons

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge 721 irons.jpg

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The players-distance C721 and game-improvement E721 each employ a face design in which small diamond shapes behind the face create a thin, variable-thickness face to enhance ball speed. A proprietary thermoplastic polyurethane is strategically placed inside the clubhead to enhance feel.

PRICE: The 721 Series irons will be available on March 10 at a cost of $130 per iron (steel) for the C721 and $100 per iron (steel) for the E721.

THE DEEP DIVE: Tour Edge founder and master designer Dave Glod made clear the priority of the company’s new C721 and E721 irons. “This is next-level Exotics,” said Glod. “It’s a brand-new direction for Exotics with a major emphasis on power creation, sound and feel.”

The 721 Series irons incorporate elements of construction and multiple materials to achieve distance while also producing a more-than-acceptable feel.

Key to achieving this is a technology the company calls “dual Vibrcor” in which a proprietary thermoplastic polyurethane is strategically placed inside the clubhead to enhance feel.

RELATED:  Our first-ever special Hot List equipment issue—featuring comprehensive reviews of the 137 best new golf clubs on the market—is now available. For our exhaustive guide that includes photos and analysis, click here.

To boost distance, the company has employed its Diamond Face 2.0 design on both irons. A variable-thickness face design, for the C721 a total of 92 diamond shapes cover the entirety of the back of the face. The diamonds are in three different thicknesses in an interweaving pattern that reduce face thickness by 29 percent. On the E721, 103 diamond shape reduce face thickness by 21 percent. The idea being to foster ball speed on off-center strikes.

“We had previously used this on our metal woods and it worked well,” said Glod. “We saw an opportunity to bring it to our irons and this is the result. It’s the first time we have had Diamond Face in an iron.”

The players-distance C721 features a compact hollow-body design with a maraging steel L-face, where a portion of the face wraps around the sole to, in effect, create a hinge that increases face flex, especially on shots hit low on the face. The military-grade steel used for the face is used in aerospace, with applications including landing gear, helicopter undercarriages, slat tracks and rocket motor cases. Such a strong material allowed Tour Edge to create the thinnest face ever in an Exotics iron.

The E721 is a one-piece high-strength steel body with a 360-degree undercut that helps lower the center of gravity to produce a high ball flight with significant face flex to enhance distance over a wide portion of the face. As a game-improvement iron, the E721 also uses extreme toe weighting, which enhances performance on toe strikes, which is where this player type tends to make impact.

Unlike the C721, which features fairly traditional lofts, the E721 makes no apologies for its pursuit of distance with stronger lofts. As a result of the lower and deeper CG, the E721 5-iron has a loft of just 21.5 degrees and a pitching wedge that checks in at 42 degrees.

A wide array of shafts are available in steel and graphite with recommendations based on swing speed.

tour edge c721 irons review

In October, Tour Edge released the latest budget-friendly, distance-oriented Hot Launch woods and irons, the E521 family . All those clubs were designed to hit the ball high, straight and far.

Tour Edge’s other family of clubs is the Exotics line, and with the two newest Exotics irons, the C721 and E721, the Batavia, Ill.-based company is setting its eyes on the player’s-distance market and the game-improvement category using several high-tech features and cutting-edge design elements.

The two irons share a pair of crucial features that are new for Tour Edge. First is Dual VibRCOR, a vibration-dampening material used to enhance feel. Second is Diamond Face 2.0, a face-design element engineered to help the hitting area flex more efficiently for increased distance.

Price: $129.99 per iron with True Temper Elevate 95 steel shafts; $142.99 with KBS TGI Tour or Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX graphite shafts

Designed to look like a better player’s muscleback blade in the address position, the Exotics C721 irons feature a moderately thin topline and modest offset. Still, they pack plenty of hidden technology to enhance distance and feel.

The C721 irons are hollow to maximize the distance potential of the high-strength, 17-4 stainless steel cup face, which features Diamond Face 2.0. It wraps under the leading edge to improve performance on low-struck shots. But instead of having grooves only on the outer hitting surface and being smooth on the inner-facing side of the face, Tour Edge designed 92 diamond-shaped areas on the inner-facing portion of steel. Tour Edge said they act like miniature trampolines, flexing and bending when the ball makes impact with the club to broaden the sweet spot and protect ball speed on off-center hits.

Tour Edge Exotics C 721 irons

At address, the Exotics C721 looks like a better-player’s iron. (Tour Edge)

Another advantage of the hollow-body design is it allowed Tour Edge to inject a lightweight, thermoplastic polyurethane in two areas. Referred to as Dual VibRCOR, the material soaks up excessive vibrations and improves sound and feel without impeding the face from flexing.

Twelve grams of internal weight were added low in the heads to drop the center of gravity and pull it farther from the face. That should encourage a higher launch and a steeper descent into the greens for extra stopping power.

Tour Edge Exotics E 721 irons (Tour Edge)

$99.99 each with True Temper Elevate 95 steel shafts; $142.99 with KBS TGI Tour or Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX graphite shafts

The new E721 is an unabashed max-game-improvement iron designed to send the ball high and far, but it utilizes many of the technologies found in the C721 irons.

Featuring a thicker topline, wider sole and plenty of offset, the E721 has a 360-degree undercut channel on the back of the head to push weight to the perimeter and boost forgiveness. This design also gave engineers room to add mass low and back in the heads to shift the center of gravity away from the face.

As with the C721 irons, these clubs have a hitting area designed with Diamond Face 2.0. The alternating thick and thin regions broaden the sweet spot, while two pieces of TPU, which Tour Edge refers to as Dual VibRCOR, reduce vibrations to soften sound and feel.

I'm really surprised we don't hear more about their 722 line, what I have seen so far both online and in person has been very positive. Their E722 irons look really good for a chunky SGI club.

Switched to C721s this year from Sub70 699.  Really like the 721s, lots of power and nicely paired with the Elevate shafts.  These played great on a buddy trip to Streamsong.  Currently swapping Steelfibers into them to go for the long term.  They fit my eye at address with the satin chrome and I'm just a fan of the shape.  Really like the forgiveness on heel and toe strikes (anything off center is still very forgiving which is good for me).  I'm not sure if the 699s have the same "L cupface" of the C721 on the welded steel faceplate, but I feel like there's more power on lower face strikes from the C721s, in a good way.  The feel is solid, but about the same as any of the other hollow body, TPE filled irons out there.  Durability is very good so far.  This is the iron that checks all the boxes for me.

Agree 100% I couldn’t be happier with the E722’s. Forgiving and long, the KBS shaft has been a perfect fit for me.

My handicap has been steadily going down since I bought these thanks to my proximity numbers improving on approach shots. I originally bought 6-PW-AW but I liked them so much I bought the 5 also.

Tour Edge unveils new Exotics C721 and E721 irons

tour edge c721 irons review

Tour Edge has today unveiled the all-new Exotics 721 Series irons: the C721 iron and the E721 iron.

The Exotics 721 irons are designed to provide every level of golfer two extreme distance irons and are led by the brand’s new Diamond Face 2.0 and Vibrcor technology for irons that combine full-face forgiveness and ball speed with optimal sound and feel.

tour edge c721 irons review

Speaking on the technology featured in both sets of irons, Tour Edge founder and President David Glod said

“Vibrcor is a new technology that enhances speed and feel in a major way. With the dual placement of Vibrcor inside of the hollow-body pocket of the C721 and the undercut pocket of the E721, we’re able to provide the best of both worlds; perimeter weighted forgiveness and distance with the feel of a forged muscle-back.

“We’ve also brought Diamond Face technology to irons for the first time ever with this release. We were able to cover the entire iron face with up to 100 diamond shapes behind the face in our thinnest iron face ever produced.”

tour edge c721 irons review

Designed as a players distance iron, the new C721 from Tour Edge features a smaller, more classic shape, more traditional lofts, and a thinner topline.

The Exotics C721 iron consists of an ultra-light TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) injected into the hollow-body pocket to create new speed-inducing and feel-enhancing technology: Vibrcor.

tour edge c721 irons review

The proprietary Vibrcor TPU is strategically placed in two places within the iron in a bid to create a feel-enhancing internal technology with perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead aimed at providing maximum forgiveness and power off the face.

Vibrcor performance TPU is injected into the hollow-body cavity and works in partnership with an extremely thick, yet light Viebcor layer designed to further aid the clubhead’s feel and produce faster ball speed off the face while dampening shock at impact.

tour edge c721 irons review

The hollow-body design with dual Vibrcor infusions delivers a low CG (center of gravity), which bids to aid with launch, distance, and overall playability. It also adds 12 grams of weight to the low end of the clubhead, increasing deflection, which is designed to create an explosive spring effect off the face.

The Exotics C721 iron features full-face Diamond Face 2.0 technology; the first time Tour Edge has employed Diamond Face  technology in an iron.

tour edge c721 irons review

There are a total of 92 diamond shapes that cover the entire face of the C721 iron. The different diamond shapes of variable face thickness behind the face act as mini-trampolines to create faster ball speeds and expand the sweet spot to the outer areas of the face.

Diamond Face 2.0 features three different thicknesses in an interweaving pattern and features a face thickness reduction of 29 percent.

This increase in Diamond Face coverage to the extreme heel and toe is designed to dramatically increases ball speed on off-center hits. The decrease in the face’s overall thickness also saved five grams of weight that was relocated to the lowest part of the clubhead.

tour edge c721 irons review

The iron features a two-piece cast body with a forged high-strength military-grade maraging steel face that is plasma-welded onto a 17-4 stainless steel body.

This ultra-high-strength steel is used in aerospace, with landing gear, helicopter undercarriages, slat tracks and rocket motor cases and other applications requiring a high strength-to-weight material.

The L-Cup Face acts as a hinge designed to improve accuracy and protect ball speed on off-center hits.

tour edge c721 irons review

A thinner leading edge on the new iron aims to provide a dramatic spring-effect throughout the face for added forgiveness on miss-hits either off the toe or the heel. The hollow-body iron design of the Exotics C721 iron aims to provide the best in perimeter weighting.

The hollow body design creates distance and forgiveness, and when combined with Vibrcor, it bids to achieve a player’s distance iron with the feel and control of a forged iron. In addition, the Notch Hosel on the iron head allows for easier bending +/- 3-degrees for enhanced custom fitting, while SpeedTested shafts allow for optimal shaft fitting.

Tour Edge Exotics E721 iron

tour edge c721 irons review

The extreme game improvement distance Exotics E721 Iron is designed with a larger footprint and a wider sole that utilizes hollow-body Vibrcor and Diamond Face 2.0 technology.

The Exotics E721 Iron utilizes a high-grade TPU strategically placed in the deep 360-degree undercut pocket to create the new speed-inducing and feel-enhancing technology: Vibrcor.

tour edge c721 irons review

A second TPU is encapsulated in the steel-covered cavity insert that works in partnership with the extremely thick, yet light Vibrcor layer to further aid the clubhead’s feel in design to produce faster ball speed and to dampen sound and shock. This dual Vibrcor treatment aims to create an iron offering the feel of a full-flush cavity iron in a sleek, extremely long, and forgiving iron head.

The E721 iron also features Diamond Face 2.0 technology with 103 diamond shapes to the extreme heel and toe of the thinner face aiming to dramatically increase ball speed on off-center hits.

tour edge c721 irons review

The E721 design is a 1-piece high-strength steel body with a 360-degree Undercut Design aimed at lowering the CG to produce a  higher launch and increased face flexing, ball speed and overall distance across the entire face.

tour edge c721 irons review

Extreme toe weighting on the Exotics E721 iron elongates the sweet spot in design for added forgiveness. Simultaneously, the lower and deeper CG allowed the E721 irons to be power-lofted to create distance and lower spin rates while achieving the same launch characteristics as a standard lofted iron.

tour edge c721 irons review

The notch hosel allows for easier bending +/- 3 degrees, while each shaft has been SpeedTested for optimal custom shaft pairing.

  • Lofts: RH – – #4 iron/19°, #5 iron/21.5°, #6 iron/24°, #7 iron/27.5°, #8 iron/32°, #9 iron/37°, PW/42°, AW/46°, GW/51° SW/56°
  • Price: $114.99 per iron in graphite and $99.99 in steel.

The E721 6 iron has the loft of my 4 and since the target player would probably have difficulty hitting anything less than 24* from the fairway, would probably wind up with more irons with letters than numbers. Loft jacking is getting ridiculous!

“…is designed to dramatically increases ball speed…

If you want to be taken at all seriously please provide supporting data. (GolfWRX should demand it.)

“…with the feel of a forged muscle-back.

Anybody who is interested in these most likely has no idea what a forged muscle back, centre-face strike, feels like.

I continue to be disappointed by Easy’s decision to cap the journalist’s salaries at such a low level.

As someone with TEE irons, a driving iron, and 3 wood, I’m obviously a fan. But Jesus, whoever is in charge of design the last 2 years needs to go. They were on a roll with the CBX lineup, but for some reason they killed it and then they went full on box set from a visual standpoint. That logo is butt ugly. Forward this to David Glodd.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 Iron Review

I had never struck a Tour Edge golf club before the Hot Launch C524 Irons arrived on my doorstep, so I was keen to see if they could perform as well as some of the best irons on the market for a fraction of the price.

Retailing for just $79.99/£65.00 per iron, the price tag certainly caught my eye as many irons in this category sell for far more than double that price. On first inspection out of the box, there were no signs of why that may be from an aesthetic point of view. Each iron was beautifully finished and looked great when I put them down in the playing position. A generous blade length and ample offset let me know that these were irons designed with playability in mind, but overall the dimensions and proportions were excellent and framed the ball nicely.

From a shelf appeal point of view, it is a case of nearly but not quite for me. I am generally someone who appreciates a minimalist approach to looks when it comes to golf equipment and the C524 irons are just a touch fussy for my tastes from the back. I don’t mind a subtle accent color but the bright blue badge just wasn’t for me, although that is just personal preference and some players may love it. I just feel that leaving that black or grey would have given the iron a slightly more premium look and feel.

In terms of the tech, there is quite a lot going on. At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that these were a hollow-body construction iron as there is no visual cavity, however, this is somewhat of an optical illusion. The cavity has simply been filled with Tour Edge’s VIBRCOR, which is a high-grade TPU designed to improve sound and feel.

Additional toe weighting has been added to the set with the intention of stabilizing impact and providing additional ball speed on off-center strikes.

I tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons at Saunton Golf Club , using my FullSwing KIT launch monitor and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls, both on the practice ground and out on the course.

Before I get into the launch monitor data, I wanted to give a special mention to the feel attributes of these irons. Impact provided a pleasant lively sensation but there was also a real depth to the strike that isn’t always present in the game-improvement iron category. For me, the Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal is still the gold standard in terms of feel in this genre, but quite honestly, when coupled with some excellent turf interaction, the C524 iron is not a million miles behind.

Launch monitor data was pretty strong across the board, with ball speed and distance competitive with just about anything else. With the 7-iron coming in at 29˚ it sits within the higher end of its peers loft-wise but still managed to produce a ball speed of 129.3mph for me with a mid-low launch and spin of 15.5˚ and 5412rpm respectively, which culminated in a healthy carry number of 188 yards.

I did notice a slight right tendency in flight compared to some other game improvement irons which tend to feature more of a draw bias if anything, and I wonder whether that has anything to do with the additional toe weighting. It wasn't too severe, however, just something to note.

The Hot Launch C524 irons come with a stock steel option of the True Temper Elevate MPH95 shaft in R or S flex, and there are more weight and flex options with the Aldila Ascent PL stock graphite option. There are also three sizes of Lamkin grips to choose from.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and feel of the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons, and when you factor in the price tag, I think there is some exceptional value for money to be had. In terms of raw performance data, I would feel comfortable putting them up against anything else in the game improvement category and be very confident they would hold their own.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

tour edge c721 irons review

Introduction

Last year, Tour Edge Exotics dropped the category-busting C721 irons [review HERE ].  Call them players irons, call them distance irons, call them game improvement – either way you’re right and wrong.  For 2022, TEE had the unenviable task of trying to improve on that.  I tested the C722 irons to see if they could.

Check out the new Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron HERE

tour edge c721 irons review

In the bag, the Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons look very similar to the C721.  The “cavity” portion has been reshaped and given a different visual texture, but the rest remains the same.  A Tour Edge Exotics logo sits in the toe just above the C722 designation.  Opposite the TEE logo is a call out to the Vibrcor technology.

tour edge c721 irons review

At address, the top line of the C722 is thinner than the C721 .  There also appears to be less offset .  This pushes the C722 away from the game improvement category, at least visually.  The blade length isn’t oversized, but it’s not compact either.

Compared to its line mate, the E722 [review HERE ], the C722 irons have much thinner top lines and much less offset.

Tour Edge Exotics has put a tremendous focus on sound and feel in the last few years, and that shows in the C722 irons.  Despite being a hollow body iron, the C722 is extremely solid .  It feels like you’re delivering a gut-punch to the golf ball, knocking the wind out of it.  This strong feel is paired with a quiet “thud” – easily the quietest impact sound of any hollow iron I can think of .

TEE’s Dual VIBRCOR Technology enhances the feel without robbing the C722 of feedback.  As you move away from the center of the face, the sound gets a little louder and transitions from “thud” to “snap.”  There is also some feedback through the hands, but it’s subtle.

Performance

Tour Edge Exotics calls the C722 an “ultra premium player’s distance iron.”  Like so many categories, “player’s distance” is ill-defined, but I’d suggest we start using the C722 as the benchmark.  This is a true players iron in terms of launch, spin, and shot control but it also manages to be impressively long and forgiving.

tour edge c721 irons review

To start my launch monitor testing, I ran the Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons against my gamer PING Blueprints [review HERE ].  This isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison by any means, but I wanted to see how much of the “players-ness” the C722 gave up in the name of distance.  The answer: none.  From the long irons through the scoring irons, the launch and spin numbers from the two sets were virtually identical .  This is particularly hard to believe given that there’s as much as a four degree difference in loft, but it’s true.

There are several reasons why it’s so important – and impressive – that TEE kept the spin in these irons.  Most obviously, spin is a big part of what keeps an approach shot on the green .  No one wants to see an iron shot land pin high, then bounce and run over the back.  Additionally, spin is what allows players to shape shots .  For an iron to carry the “players” moniker, I think that should always be an option.

tour edge c721 irons review

Where the C722 and Blueprint diverged was on ball speed, and diverge they did.  Thanks to the Diamond Face VFT and Maraging Steel L-Cup Face, the C722 has ball speed on par with the fastest irons available .  In the long irons, the smash factors easily climb into the high 1.4s.  The C722 irons left the Blueprints in the dust with enhanced ball speed translating to at least an extra club of distance .

Finally, the other massive advantage of the C722 irons is consistency.  With their hollow body design and strong perimeter weighting, the C722s deliver predictable launch, spin, and speed shot after shot.  This means that whether you’re striking it like a true player or having an off day, you can rely on repeatable distances from your irons.

tour edge c721 irons review

The Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons truly deliver on both sides of the “player’s distance” promise.  These irons have all the spin you need to shape your shots and stick the landing on the green.  That’s paired with tremendous ball speed and enough forgiveness to get you through some bad swings.  The C722 irons show that you can get the best of both worlds.

Great review and thanks! I am guessing these fall in the same category as P790s, Ping I525, T200s and other players distance. Pricing seems attractive relative to the other brands as does stock shaft offerings. You have tempted me!

' src=

Have not played those irons but Made in THE U. S. A. Good thing !

' src=

I believe they are built in the USA but some components are not made in the USA.

' src=

Hi Matt! I’ve been anticipating this review. Did you experience a marked difference between these and the C721’s in terms of 4i/5i launch/spin and also overall performance and feel? The C722’s sound seemed more muted per your review. Finally, how did the C722 gap wedge stack up to your current gap wedge?

' src=

I would say the difference is measurable but probably not noticeable, for most golfers. The C722 GW is a lot faster than my Edison, but I prefer the smaller head and thinner sole.

' src=

Thanks Matt. Considering new irons soon. I am impressed with the 7 wood and 3 wood I added to my bag.

' src=

On my third set of tour edge irons started with geo bazooka back in 2011 now on EXS irons, this current set is great and I don’t intend changing for a few more year yet, the only issue I have with tour edge is they change there clubs all the time I brought the EXS 3 & 5 fairway woods with turf interaction soles but the latest model doesn’t have this this to me says that development was a gimmick if it wasn’t and it was a true game changer they’d still be using it David Glod is very good at blowing the trumpet for tour edge’s latest clubs when really the previous 2 models are just as good these new irons also have what appears to be stronger lofts which also helps with distance. But I still would change them for any other major brand, I just thing if you buy them be prepared for them to be out of date within a year or possibly less lol,

I think “out of date” is the wrong way to look at it. Any change in a club comes with pluses and minuses. Rail soles are good for turf interaction, but they limit the designer’s ability to move CG. I look at it as, “In year 1, they offered a club for players who need help with turf interaction. In year 2, they offered something for players who need higher CG.” There is no perfect club which is why we always emphasize the importance of fitting.

' src=

Hi Matt The triumph of these irons seems to be incorporating the longer shafts and stronger lofts without compromising spin and playability. Have you ever hit a comparably successful “player’s distance” iron?

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of another players distance iron with this much spin.

' src=

Matt, great review and these look like trying out. One thing you don’t mention that could be important for many-price! I was at Golf Galaxy today browsing irons. The Callaways (which I love), Titleists, et. al. run about $1,300, whereas the TEE C722 & E722’s were $700 & $800, or vice versa. The price of premium irons (along with many other things) have become outrageous.

' src=

Very good review. I love my Tour Edge C721 driver and fairway woods and was awaiting the review on these irons. When I hit the lottery these irons are one of the first things on my shopping list. Thanks again for an awesome review.

Matt, How do these compare to PXG 0211 DC? Tks Guy

I have a full review of the 2021 0211 irons here: https://pluggedingolf.com/2021-pxg-0211-irons-review/

' src=

Hi Matt. I’m waffleling between the C722 and the P790 My main concern is there is not a lot of shaft choices with the tour age. Currently I have been fitted into The dynamic gold 105 stiff Of the choices that Touredge offers what would be closer to the shaft I’ve been fitted to

I would suggest contacting Tour Edge to see if you can order them with the Dynamic Gold 105, or ordering them through a builder who will make them to your spec. A new iron set is a big enough investment that, in my opinion, stock shaft choice should not be the deciding factor.

' src=

Ultimate question. Since these have just as much spin as your Blueprints, but more forgiveness and more distance: will these be replacing the Blueprints in your bag?

Or are they not as workable, and shotmaking pleases you more than controlled distance?

High praise from you in any case.

No, I’m not looking to replace my irons at this time. I discussed why I change my clubs so infrequently here: https://pluggedingolf.com/podcast-episode-136-when-to-replace-your-clubs/ To this set specifically, I’m really not looking for more distance. I wish I could get the forgiveness without the added distance, but that’s rare, maybe impossible. Part of not wanting more distance is how infrequently I play and not wanting to learn new yardages.

Matt, Being a low spin player, looking for the highest spinning and/or descent angle iron to better hold greens. Do you have any comparison as to the higher spin in clubs you have reviewed? thanks,

If you need more spin and you don’t want to be in a blade/players cavity back, this is as high spin as I can think of.

' src=

Nice review! You hit it … the key to buying any set of irons is get fitted. If you’re going to spend your hard earned money it pays to get fitted!

' src=

Just replaced my entire bag of clubs, including the bag, as mine were stolen at tournament in Cincinnati. I’m 65 a 4 index, and finally made the move to graphite. Make sure to get fitted. My bag: 722C driver and 5-gap edge 722E 3 wood 16.5 and 4 hybrid 22 degree All in Blue Ventus Reg. Flex Big change for me in shafts….. Just got em report later.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

tour edge c721 irons review

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

tour edge c721 irons review

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

tour edge c721 irons review

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

tour edge c721 irons review

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

tour edge c721 irons review

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

tour edge c721 irons review

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

tour edge c721 irons review

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
