The Hives Announce 2024 North American Tour Dates
Coming to the states this fall
The Hives are back with the announcement of new 2024 tour dates, which’ll take the Swedish rockers to cities across North America this fall.
Specifically, after The Hives finish up a European leg this summer, they’ll hop across the pond to the US for a number of dates opening for Foo Fighters and Green Day. After that, they’ll embark on a US tour of their own, stopping in cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and more, before wrapping with a final performance in Atlanta on October 2nd. Check out the full list of dates below.

Fans can look for deals or get tickets via StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
The tour follows the arrival of The Hives’ first new album in over a decade: The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons . Recorded in the studio of ABBA’s Benny Andersson and spanning 12 tracks, the album sees the revitalization of the band’s rock ’n’ roll prowess, and features tracks like “Bogus Operandi,” which earned recognition as our Song of the Week when it debuted last year.

The Hives Announce North American Tour in 2024
by Em Casalena April 1, 2024, 12:08 pm
The Hives are going to be busy bees this year with an extensive Europe and UK tour, and they’re also going to be opening on multiple dates for Foo Fighters’ Everything Or Nothing At All Tour. Luckily for American fans, they’ve also just announced a decently-sized North American tour, slated to start after the first leg of their European tour in July.

The Swedish rock band is going to trek across the US and Canada, and it doesn’t look like any opening acts for the last leg of the tour have been announced. The trek will promote the band’s most recent album, The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons.
The first US stop on the upcoming Hives 2024 Tour will be on July 19 in New York City at Citi Field with Foo Fighters. The last date of the tour will be October 2 in Atlanta, Georgia at Tabernacle.

The Hives are a Swedish rock band formed in 1989. They came to prominence at the turn of the 21st century, heralding the garage rock revival along with The Strokes, The Vines and The White Stripes. They are best known for their chaotic, energetic live shows.
The Hives are a walking, talking, rocking, screaming and stomping argument against anyone who has lamented the death of the “real rock star”. Anyone who thinks that rock and roll music has become too anonymous nowadays would do well to see these Swedish mentalists do what they do best, cos everything they do makes them pretty much unforgettable.
According to the band, they formed in 1989 but under a different name and sound than the one they have today. Enter shadowy manager/Svengali figure Randy Fitzsimmons, who in 1993, took the group and turned them into The Hives that we know and love to this day.
A demo recorded in 1994 got them signed to Swedish skate punk label Burning Heart , an E.P called “Oh Lord! When? How?” followed the next year and by 1997 they released their first album “Barely Legal”. It was then they began touring and honing their utterly unmissable live show, something that would eventually make them one of the most critically acclaimed live bands in the world.
Come the turn of the century, they released their second album “Veni Vidi Vicious”, and Creation Records legend Alan McGee (AKA The man who signed Oasis), just so happened to catch the video for the “Hate To Say I Told You So” single on German TV. He signed them to his label Poptones and released the compilation album “Your New Favourite Band”.
This proved to be a wise choice; the album went top ten in the U.K and broke them overseas, especially in the USA. Since then they’ve released three more studio albums and toured anywhere that’ll have them. They’re one of the bands that any rock fan should be proud to have around right now, and they’re right at the top of their game.
Live reviews
It’s difficult to know what’s most impressive about The Hives’ live shows - the sheer level of energy they give off (they’re absolutely irrepressible throughout) or the fact that they still do it all whilst immaculately dressed, with frontman ‘Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist and his bandmates in strictly top hat and tails kind of attire. They underwent something of a renaissance back in 2012 with the release of 'Lex Hives,' which featured a slew of material perfect for their high-tempo live sets - not least "Come On!" and "Go Right Ahead." In fact, so visceral is the exuberance of their stage personas, it’s often easy to miss just how skilled the Swedes are as musicians; drummer Christian Grahn is an animal behind the kit, and with Niklas Almqvist’s signature staccato riffs so often bordering on vicious, there’s a level of ability within the group that means the odd solo here and occasional instrumental flourish there are to be expected. "Hate to Say I Told You So" is still the primary crowd-pleaser, of course - not surprisingly, given it still sounds completely fresh ten years on - but there’s such an array of hits in the set now that The Hives are actually becoming a more vital live proposition with age.
Report as inappropriate
The Hives do not simply perform, they attack. The unconventional Swedish rockers perform often in formal attire giving them a sinister Clockwork Orange appearance at times. It is a strange convention for a band who perform in such an energetic manner to have adopted as you imagine the group must really struggle to move in their finest dinner outfits.
They have the crowd onside from the offset with a raucous version of 'Come On!' that cements their intent and proves they are here to really showcase why they are such an exciting group. They cram their very finest material into a concise, pacy set as frontman Pelle Almqvist encourages the crowd to dance, jump, sing and cheer along with the anthemic show. They are more than obliged to do so for favourites such as 'Hate to Say I Told You So' and 'My Time Is Coming'. It is the last track though 'Tick Tick Boom' that best showcases the frantic, bizarre world of The Hives and the atmosphere achieved is one of complete uniqueness.
So freaking good. I’ve been a fan for 15 years, saw them for the first time last night and it was really everything I could have dreamed. They were engaged with the crowd, had high energy and played some amazing songs
They absolutely tore it up. The venue was great and the crowd had their moments both good and bad. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but they exceeded all expectations. One of the best shows that I’ve seen this year.

The Hives announce 2024 headline tour
Fresh from supporting the Arctic Monkeys, The Hives have already announced their return to the UK and Ireland…
The Hives have just announced a UK and Ireland headline tour for 2024.
Fresh from supporting the Arctic Monkeys, the band will be returning next year for a 12-date run, kicking off at the Academy in Leeds on March 27 and wrapping up at London’s Eventim Apollo on April 13. Tickets go on sale next Friday, June 30.
Ahead of the tour, of course, The Hives will be releasing their first new album in 11 years, The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons, on August 11 via FUGA.
Speaking about what’s to come from the record, frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist says: “There’s no maturity or anything like that bullshit, because who the fuck wants mature rock’n’roll? That’s always where people go wrong, I feel. ‘It’s like rock’n’roll but adult,’ nobody wants that! That’s literally taking the good shit out of it. Rock’n’roll can’t grow up, it is a perpetual teenager and this album feels exactly like that, which it’s all down to our excitement – and you can’t fake that shit.”

Set to kick off in March with a gig in Leeds, the upcoming tour will feature 12 shows across the UK and Ireland, and run until mid-April. It will also feature a closing show at the Eventim Apollo in London.
The tour also comes in time for the band’s highly-anticipated new album, ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’, which is set for release on August 11 2023 via FUGA. The Hives – comprised of Chris Dangerous, Vigilante Carlstroem, Nicholaus Arson, Howlin’ Pelle, and The Johan And Only – first announced their upcoming sixth studio album last month, when they shared the lead single ‘Bogus Operandi’ .

They also released another explosive new single, ‘Countdown To Shutdown’ alongside an accompanying music video earlier this month.
The forthcoming LP marks their first new full-length album in over a decade and follows on from their 2012 release ‘Lex Hives’ . Discussing what fans can expect from the new material, Howlin’ Pelle said: “There’s no maturity or anything like that bullshit, because who the fuck wants mature rock’n’roll? … That’s literally taking the good shit out of it. Rock’n’roll can’t grow up, it is a perpetual teenager and this album feels exactly like that, which it’s all down to our excitement – and you can’t fake that shit.”
According to a press release, the macabre title reflects how “the band’s extended absence from the studio has been no hiatus but rather a horror story.”
“The Hives now admit they have not seen nor spoken to their founder, mentor and songwriter, the perpetual limelight-shunning Randy Fitzsimmons , since the release of 2012’s ‘ Lex Hives’ . Following the recent discovery of a hidden away obituary and cryptic poem in the local paper of the Northern Vastmanland town where The Hives are from, the band members were led to Fitzsimmons’ tombstone,” it read.
“Upon digging the freshly interred ground, the band found not a body but instead several tapes, suits, and a piece of paper bearing the words ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’ typed up as if a title. Whether a hoax or Fitzsimmons’ opening gambit, remains to be seen. The uncovered tapes included the demos that would become the twelve new songs on ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’.”
The band will also play some festival dates and an intimate album in-store performance in Nottingham tomorrow (June 22).

The 11 most expensive guitars of all time:, 14 - duane allman’s 1957 gibson les paul.
The Goldtop 1957 Gibson Les Paul guitar that the late-great Duane Allman used to record 'Layla' alongside Eric Clapton, sold for $1.25 million (£1.03 million) in August 2019. First purchased by Allman in early 1969, it's the fabled guitar on which he learned and perfected his slide style. It was his primary instrument on the first two Allman Brothers albums, and for the 'Layla' album by Derek & The Dominos.
13 - Eric Clapton's The Fool guitar
Eric Clapton's iconic guitar The Fool sold for a whopping $1.27 million at Julien's Auctions on Thursday 16th November as part of their three-day music auction event 'Played, Worn and Torn: Rock N' Roll Iconic Guitars and Memorabilia' at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville. The 1964 Gibson Custom-Painted Psychedelic Guitar was played on the majority of Cream's recordings in the 1960s. When the band broke up, Clapton gave it to George Harrison who passed it to Jackie Lomax. In the 70s and 80s it was owned and stage played by Todd Rundgren, who called it "Sunny" after Cream's 'Sunshine of Your Love,' until he sold it at auction to its previous owner in 2000. The guitar was acquired by The Jim Irsay Collection in Indianapolis, and a portion of proceeds went to the Kicking The Stigma charity.
12 - David Gilmour’s 1954 Fender Stratocaster
David Gilmour's 1954 White Fender Stratocaster #0001 used on Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall (Parts 2 and 3)' sold for $1,815,000 (£1,493,000) on an estimate of $100,000-150,000 at the David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction at Christie's in New York in June 2019. For a few fleeting hours it was the most expensive Fender ever until another famous David Gilmour guitar kicked it out of the park…
11 – Jerry Garcia‘s Wolf Guitar
Jerry Garcia's famous Wolf Guitar sold at auction for $1.9 million (£1.57 million) in June 2017 in New York. Its buyer was Brian Halligan, Chief Executive of software company HubSpot and a keen Grateful Dead aficionado. Proceeds from the sale of the Wolf guitar went to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a charity specialising in civil rights and public interest litigation. Customized by master luthier Doug Irwin, and labelled "D. Irwin 001", Wolf was delivered to Jerry Garcia 50 years ago and first appeared in public during a 1973 New York City performance the Grateful Dead gave for the Hell's Angels.
10 - Kurt Cobain's Skystang I guitar

Cobain first played his electric Fender Skystang I guitar on 18th October 1993 at the Arizona State Fair Veteran's Memorial Coliseum during the In Utero tour, and he performed with it at his final concert on 1st March 1994 at Terminal 1 in Munich. The guitar bought by Mitsuru Sato who bid via the phone at the Julien's Auctions' sale held at Hard Rock Café, Nashville.
9 – Peter Green’s Greeny
Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green bought 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard for sixty guineas after being asked to join John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the mid-60s. He played it on Fleetwood Mac classics including 'The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)' and 'Albatross' before selling it to fellow guitar virtuoso Gary Moore in 1970. Moore played it throughout his solo career and time with Thin Lizzy, however he was forced to sell it in 2006 due to financial difficulties. Guitar dealer Phil Winfield bought it for somewhere between $750,000 and $1.2 million before selling it for $2 million (£1.65 million) to a private collector. Metallica's Kirk Hammett bought Greeny in 2014 for less than $2 million and he still performs with it to this day.
8 – Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 Fender Stratocaster
The white 1968 Fender Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix famously played at Woodstock in 1969 was purchased by late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen for a cool $2 million (£1.65 million) in 2000. Keen guitarist and collector Allen, who passed away in 2018, donated the fabled instrument to the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle where it's still on display today.
7 – John Lennon’s Gibson J-160E acoustic-electric guitar
John Lennon's long-lost acoustic Gibson J-160E acoustic-electric guitar, which he used on The Beatles' 'Please Please Me' and 'With the Beatles' albums, fetched $2,410,000 (£1,992,000) at auction in November 2015. The guitar had been owned since 1969 by a man called John McCaw who purchased it from a friend called Tommy Pressley who in turn, two years earlier, had bought it for just $175. McCaw was completely unaware it originally belonged to John Lennon until he stumbled across a photograph of The Beatle performing with it in a 2012 copy of Guitar Aficionado magazine. Realising its importance (and worth), McCaw put it up for auction.
6 - Reach Out to Asia Fender Stratocaster
The Reach out to Asia Fender Stratocaster became the most expensive guitar ever in 2005 when it fetched $2,700,000 (£2,232,000) under the hammer in Qatar. Proceeds went to the charity Reach Out to Asia, which was set up to help victims of the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. The guitar was signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Mark Knopfler, Ray Davies, Liam Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Tony Iommi, Angus and Malcolm Young, Paul McCartney, Sting, Ritchie Blackmore, Def Leppard and Bryan Adams.
5 - John Lennon's 'Help!' guitar
A Framus 12-string Hootenanny acoustic guitar was used by John Lennon on songs such as 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away', and for the album 'Help!' sold for $2.9 million (£2.3 million) under the hammer at Julien's Auctions in New York in May 2024. Believed to be lost for 50 years, it's also the most expensive Beatles instrument ever sold.
4 - Eddie Van Halen's 'Hot For Teacher' Kramer
Eddie Van Halen's custom-made Kramer electric guitar that he played in Van Halen's seminal 'Hot for Teacher' sold for a massive $3,932,000 (£3,167,343) under the hammer in April 2023. One of the most iconic guitars of the MTV era, the stage used and filmed guitar was custom made by Paul Unkert of Kramer Guitars for Eddie Van Halen. The $3,932,000 it fetched at auction at Sotheby's in New York made it the fourth most expensive guitar ever sold.
3 – David Gilmour’s Black Strat
David Gilmour's fabled guitar, The Black Strat, set the world record for the World's Most Expensive Guitar in June 2019 when it fetched $3,975,000 (£3,285,000) at Christie's in New York as part of the David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction. The fabled guitar was famously played on the 'Comfortably Numb' solo and was integral to the recording of the Pink Floyd albums 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' (1973), 'Wish You Were Here' (1975), 'Animals' (1977) and 'The Wall' (1979), together with Gilmour's solo albums. Just like all the other guitars in the auction, proceeds from sales of The Black Strat went directly to the climate change charity ClientEarth. The Black Strat was the world's most expensive guitar for almost exactly 12 months.
2 – Kurt Cobain’s Fender Mustang Guitar
Kurt Cobain's famous Fender Mustang guitar he played in Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video in 1991 became the second most expensive guitar ever sold under the hammer in May 2022. The 1969 Fender Mustang Competition Lake Placid Blue Finish Electric Guitar sold for a whopping $4.5 million (£3.7 million) at Julien's Auctions in New York as part of their Music Icons auction. The left-handed guitar had an estimate of $600,000 to $800,000. Billionaire Jim Irsay snapped up the Fender Mustang guitar having previously bought David Gilmour's fabled Black Strat guitar for a then world-record $3,975,000 (£3.285 million) in 2019.
1 - Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged Guitar
One year on from the world-record sale of David Gilmour's Black Strat, Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged guitar sold for a massive $6,010,000 (£4,960,000) at auction in June 2020 and became the World's Most Expensive Guitar in the process. The late-great Nirvana frontman played the 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic-electric guitar for the band's MTV Unplugged set at Sony Music Studios in New York City on 18th November 1993 – just five months before his untimely death aged 27. Alongside being the most expensive guitar, it set four further world records - World's Most Expensive Acoustic Guitar, World's Most Expensive Martin Guitar, World's Most Expensive Piece of Rock Memorabilia and World's Most Expensive Nirvana Memorabilia. The buyer of Kurt Cobain's guitar was Peter Freedman, Founder of RØDE Microphones.

Vince Staples new album
On May 24, Staples dropped his sixth studio album “Dark Times.”
Made up of 13 tracks, the gifted rapper showcases his soulful, exquisite production skills and effortless flow every step of the way all while dropping in trippy interludes.
Highlights include the gorgeously arranged “Black&Blue,” downbeat piano banger “Government Cheese” and spaced out, dreamy “Shame On The Devil.”
Still, the real standout might be “Little Homies” with its pristine backing beat and Staples’ most urgent flow. “Life hard but I go hard,” the chorus repeats on a loop. It’s not only a “Dark Times” mission statement but sounds just as hard as its message. We can’t wait to hear this one live.
Want to check out “Dark Times”? You can stream the album here .
“The Vince Staples Show”
A week after the album dropped, Netflix renewed Staples’ surreal series for a second season.
The first season, set in Staples’ native Long Beach, ran five episodes. For a closer look, you can catch the show’s official trailer here:
At nearly all gigs, Staples will be joined by singer-songwriter Baby Rose .
If you’ve never heard the 29-year-old Washington, D.C. native, think of the soulful samples that populate Staples’ albums and you won’t be a million miles off from her sound (to be fair, she is featured on his song “Shame On The Devil”).
Smoky, husky, seductive, emotive and playful all at once, her music is a throwback to the late ’60s and early ’70s. We promise you’ll be in your feels when you hear her powerful voice live this fall.
For those who want to do a deeper dive, you can find Baby Rose’s complete discography here .
