Counting Crows, Banshee Season Tour Opening Night in Omaha, Nebraska June 13th, 2023

  • June 15, 2023
  • International Concert Reviews
  • by Ehud Lazin Photographer/Writer

Earlier this week veteran rockers Counting Crows embarked on a massive four-month, 56-date summer tour dubbed “ Banshee Season “, with special guests Dashboard Confessional and Frank Turner on select dates.  The band’s recent two-year tour supporting their latest release The Butter Miracle Suite One just ended a few months ago with final dates in New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. Prior to the show in Omaha on June 13th, 2023, the band made a surprise visit to the legendary Troubador in Los Angeles, a venue they played early in their career, and played an intimate show for Sirius XM .

Opening night started fittingly, “somewhere in middle America” in Omaha, NB. The show took place at the Steelhouse Omaha , which just opened its doors for the first time on May 12th, 2023, and had only hosted three shows prior to Counting Crows. Though the Banshee Season tour featured Dashboard Confessional at almost all its stops, opening night was billed with Counting Crows headlining the show with no support act.

While all the stats aligned for this show, with the venue, the sold-out crowd, opening night of the tour, it was not without some drama. Prior to showtime, guitarists Dan Vickrey tested positive for Covid and had to quarantine. The remaining 6 members of the band, lead singer Adam Duritz , Drummer Jim Bogios , Bass player Millard Powers, Keyboard player Charlie Gillingham, Guitarists Dave Bryson, and lead Guitarist David Immergluck had to figure out how to revise the setlist to accommodate the last minute change.

Duritz came out on stage and told the crowd how the entire saga unfolded, and why they were down one band member, and without missing a beat they opened up the show with “Omaha”, off their debut album August And Everything After , which is celebrating 30 years since it’s release this coming September. During the two-hour show, due to Dan Vickery not being able to play, some obvious changes were made. The band could not perform the Butter Miracle Suite in its entirety, and the band went ahead and played 6 more songs from August and Everything After as Dan Vickery was not yet in the band when that album came out. Dave Bryson and David Immergluck took on additional parts during other songs and changed some of the arrangements in order to bridge the gap. Being the professional seasoned musicians they all are, the show was fantastic, high energy and Adam’s crowd banter was fresh and funny. All in all a great opening night to what is set to be a great summer tour!

The band is teaming up with NUGS again this year, and offering live recordings of the entire tour to stream or download on the platform, the Omaha show is available here . The tour resumes Saturday in Indianapolis.

.It’s time to reconnect with Mr. Jones.

’90s icons Counting Crows are returning to the road from June through September to play amphitheaters, casinos, stadiums, parks and pavilions all over the U.S. with special guest Dashboard Confessional on their 54-concert ‘Banshee Season Tour.’

Along the way, the “Accidentally In Love” rockers will slide into New York and New Jersey for seven huge shows.

First, they’ll play Syracuse’s St. Josephs Health Amphitheater at Lakeview on July 1.

After that, Adam Duritz and co. hit Canandaigua, NY’s Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center on July 2, Saratoga Springs’ Saratoga Performing Arts Center on July 5, Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on July 6, Wantagh, NY’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on July 8, Bethel, NY’s Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on July 9 and Atlantic City, NJ’s Borgata Event Center on July 22.

Most importantly though, tickets are relatively affordable to catch the alt-rockers live this summer.

At the time of publication, we found some going for as low as $35 before fees on Vivid Seats.

So, if you want to hear “A Long December,” “Hanginaround” and “Big Yellow Taxi” live this summer, here’s everything you need to know.

Counting Crows 2023 tour schedule

Notable stops for the Crows with Dashboard Confessional after that include Milwaukee (June 21), Boston (July 15), Charlotte (Aug. 1), New Orleans (Aug. 18) and Phoenix (Aug. 31).

After all is said and done, the co-headliners will close up shop at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheater on Sept. 25.

A complete calendar including all ‘Banshee Season Tour’ dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found here .

Dashboard Confessional

Chris Carrabba’s band helped define the early ’00s emo rock sound.

Their smash singles “Vindicated” and “Hands Down” blur the line of arena rock and intimacy creating something universal, personal and uniquely “emo” in the process.

Most recently, the band released the 2022 album “All The Truth That I Can Tell” which is a bit of a departure from their earlier output — it’s a bit softer but no less powerful.

You can listen to the vulnerable 11-track record here .

’90s rockers on tour in 2023

Some things never change. “The Simpsons” is still on the air and many of the biggest stars from the Clinton era are touring all over North America this year.

It’s like 1996 all over again.

Here are just five of our favorite ’90s rockers on tour this year you won’t want to miss when they come to a city near you.

Counting Crows Detail Return to U.S. with Banshee Season Tour 2023

Counting Crows Detail Return to U.S. with Banshee Season Tour 2023

Hot on the heels of their global Butter Miracle Tour over the past two years, Counting Crows have announced they’ll return to the U.S. this year with a new tour touted as the Banshee Season Tour. For their travels, they’ll be joined by their long-time friends, the cult-favorite rock band Dashboard Confessional, along with English singer-songwriter Frank Turner.

The Banshee Season tour will kick off at the Steelhouse Omaha in Omaha, Neb., on June 13 and make 56 stops until its completion, which will culminate with a performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., on Sept. 25. Over their travels the two ensembles will make stops at many historic and beloved cities in the States including Nashville, New Orleans, Boston, Las Vegas, Tulsa, Okla., Phoenix, Ariz., Seattle, Salt Lake City, Milwaukee, Wisc., Syracuse, N.Y. and more.

“One of the best things about a life in rock and roll is that we spend it traveling the world playing music. It’s even better when you can do it with one of your best friends and watch them play every night too,” Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz said in a press release. “Chris Carrabba hits the trifecta for me in that he’s one of my best friends in the world, one of my favorite people in the world, and he leads one of my favorite bands of all time, Dashboard Confessional. Sorry for the terrible pun but hands down, this is going to be the best summers ever.”

Duritz and Carrabba first met in 2003 at the 17th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert in San Francisco with Neil Young, and the two long-time collaborators remained close, working together both on and off the stage since then.

Carrabba added: “Dashboard Confessional could not be more excited to be playing all across America with our heroes and friends Counting Crows. Dreams really can come true!”

Ticket presales to the tour will begin Tuesday, March 14, in select markets, and the general ticket on-sale will commence Friday, March 17, at 10 a.m. local time. For additional information, follow Counting Crows on  Facebook  and  Instagram .

Show Review: Counting Crows brings the Banshee Season Tour to Arizona Financial Theatre

  • September 4, 2023

A relaxing, entertaining evening awaited fans last week when Counting Crows brought their Banshee Season Tour to Arizona Financial Theatre on Thursday. The longstanding Bay Area rockers took 30 years of music and curated a multi-act setlist that had a little something for everyone.

British folk singer Frank Turner provided the opening support for the night, eschewing his full band setup for a mandolin enhanced acoustic performance that put his powerful vocals front and center. As with many performers that visit Phoenix in the dead of summer, Turner was absolutely appalled at the extreme heat and expressed his embarrassment at having to wear shorts on stage to compensate for the high temperatures.

The heat didn’t slow down the energy of his set, however, and he cracked jokes and told stories between songs- including dedicating “The Work” to his wife of four years. After nearly an hour onstage, Turner made a graceful exit having won the hearts of old and new fans alike.

One thing about Counting Crows is that they are consistent- and after three decades, that’s exactly what we want from them. Don’t let the dramatic light show overwhelm your senses because it’s the setlist of stellar songs that will pull your focus every time.

“Mr. Jones” was only the third song in the list for the night (a power move by the band) before jumping into “High Life”, “Black and Blue” and so much more. They even threw in a few carefully selected covers by Taylor Swift and Joni Mitchell before the conclusion of the main act.

The band returned to the stage for a highly demanded encore, bringing out Turner for a duet rendition of “Hanginaround” before closing the incredible night with “Holiday in Spain”- the perfect kickoff for the upcoming long weekend.

As punk rock proliferated radio airwaves, Dashboard Confessional cemented their role at the vanguard of an entire music scene. Facing familiar aches with tenderness and precision, singer / songwriter Chris Carrabba rocketed the band into mainstream focus, solidifying their place as one of the biggest alternative bands of the 2000s. All The Truth That I Can Tell, the band's ninth studio album, is both a remarkable renewal and fortunate step forward. Carrabba found himself at a distinct crossroads as the last decade came to an end. Running on fumes, unsure if he'd ever release another album, he waited. The songs eventually came, and though the project might've easily come to a screeching halt following a near-fatal motorcycle accident in the summer of 2020, the album stands among Carrabba's finest - a strikingly potent musical look at himself through a rediscovered keyhole, both an achievement of vision and a vital burst of artistic clarity; less like reading someone's diary and more like reading their eyes.

The long-awaited Banshee Season Tour 2023 by Counting Crows has finally arrived. While every stop on the 56-city tour will be a highlight in its own right, the performance at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater on July 28, 2023, will truly be the standout and something you will vividly recall for a very long time to come. Dashboard Confessional, a special guest, will also be performing, so there's that to be excited about as well. The demand for tickets is through the roof, so if you want to go, you better act fast on our site by clicking the "Get Tickets" button right now.

Counting Crows & Dashboard Confessional at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater

Adam Duritz on vocals, Jim Bogios hitting the drums, Charlie Gillingham stroking the keyboards, David Immerglück, David Bryson, Dan Vickrey strumming the guitar, and Millard Powers playing the bass round out Counting Crows.

The group's deep sentimentality and multifaceted arrangements have excited fans all over the world, earning them several Grammy and Academy Award nominations. Counting Crows are widely regarded as one of the best live rock bands in the world after earning widespread attention with their multi-platinum 1993 debut album, "August and Everything After." Since then, they have released six more studio albums and sold over twenty million records around the world.

To many, the early 2000s were all about Dashboard Confessional, a band whose acoustic sound and lyrics about heartbreak and loss made them household names. Chris Carrabba, the band's lead singer and songwriter, has been lauded for the band's "raw and honest" approach to songwriting, which has resulted in the release of seven studio albums.

Hits like "Accidentally in Love" and "Mr. Jones" have launched Counting Crows as a mainstay of alternative rock, while Dashboard Confessional's "Hands Down" and "Screaming Infidelities" have established them as one of the most important emo bands of the 2000s.

Tickets are selling out fast, so if you want to go (and trust us, you really do!), you should buy them now.
